NHL players facing assault charges after New York City arrests

The penalty box for two NHL players arrested on assault charges Sunday in New York City could be a jail cell.

Sonny Milano of the Columbus Blue Jackets and A.J. Greer of the Colorado Avalanche were charged after a dispute over money, NYPD spokesman Detective Ahmed Nasser told Fox News.

A 28-year-old man said he was injured when the dispute turned into a physical altercation, Nasser said. The man refused medical attention when cops arrived.

Milano, 23, and Greer, 22, were issued desk appearance tickets ordering them to return to court Sept. 4, Nasser said. The charges are misdemeanors punishable by up to a year in jail.

Thousands of motorcyclists ride in honor of 7 bikers killed in NH crash

A long procession of motorcycles participated Saturday in a memorial ride in New Hampshire to remember seven bikers, including five Marines, killed in a collision with a truck last month.

The 90-mile “Ride for the Fallen 7” attracted more than 3,000 bikers, some as far away as Florida and California.

Organizer Steve Allison said the event to honor the victims who rode with the Jarheads Motorcycle Club “was a statement,” the New Hampshire Union Leader reported.

LSD-fueled rampage in California leaves 8 injured after man stabs others with pencil, lawn light: police

This was one very bad — and violent — acid trip.

A man in California was shot by police on the Fourth of July after a drug-fueled rampage left eight people injured and a vehicle lodged in a rental home.

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release the suspect, 32-year-old Betai Koffi, is charged with two counts of attempted murder, three counts of assault with a deadly weapon and one charge of carjacking for the incidents leading up to the officer-involved shooting.

Koffi, of San Francisco, was staying with five “longtime friends” who had rented a home in Bodega Bay for the Independence Day holiday weekend and arrived on Wednesday.

WISCONSIN MAN RUNNING NAKED IN PARKING LOT ON ‘TONS OF ACID,’ HE ALLEGEDLY TOLD COPS

During the day on Thursday, police said that Koffi consumed about two doses of the hallucinogenic drug LSD, also known as acid, and had become “delusional” by 3 p.m. around the home as friends had tried to calm him down. Between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., Koffi then took two more doses of acid and, by 8 p.m., wanted to leave as his friends tried to stop him.

“Several members of his party took a half tab of acid, but Koffi took four doses of acid and he had a really bad trip with it,” Sonoma County Sheriff’s Sgt Spencer Crum told KTVU.

Betai Koffi was shot at least three times by police after a drug-fueled rampage in Northern California on the Fourth of July that left eight injured. (KTVU)

As he was hallucinating, police said Koffi punched a woman in the chest and side, then stabbed a man with a pencil before choking another man and punching a third man in the face. The 32-year-old was able to get outside the home into his rental car, backed into another car behind him, then drove toward one of the men who dodged him and crashed into the garage of the home, lodging it in the structure, according to police.

Koffi then took off on foot and encountered a security guard who patrols the subdivision, attacking him.

“He picks up a landscape light, like a solar landscape light, and picks it up and then stabs the security guard with the metal end of it, knocking the security guard to the ground,” Crum told KTVU.

After stabbing the security guard in the chest, Koffi then stole his truck, which was unlocked and running, speeding away. He then drove straight toward a couple who were walking on the road and “violently hit” a woman, leaving her with “significant injuries,” according to police.  The man was struck on the arm but was not seriously injured.

After striking the first couple, the sheriff’s office said Koffi then drove toward another man and woman who were walking, and “aimed at the woman and hit her with the truck, causing significant injuries.”

“He’s intentionally running people down, intentionally ran four people down,” Crum told KTVU, adding the rampage was captured on home security cameras. “The couple that did not see it coming, who are walking arm in arm, it’s really sad. And when you watch the video you can’t help feel emotional.”

CALIFORNIA PROFESSOR AND HIS DOG KILLED AFTER BEING STRUCK BY ILLEGAL STREET RACERS

The rampage finally came in an end when a sheriff’s deputy and California Highway Patrol officer arrived, by which time Koffi had driven through someone’s yard, hit a wall, and continued back on the road.

The incident happened in the coastal town of Bodega Bay, located about 70 miles north of San Francisco. (KTVU)

The sheriff’s office said that when Koffi saw the officers, he turned the truck and drove straight at police when the deputy who had gotten out of his car started firing. Koffi continued accelerating and struck the CHP vehicle as the deputy fired his weapon, according to police.

Koffi was struck at least three times through the windshield and was airlifted to the hospital, along with the first woman he ran over. He was listed in critical condition at an area hospital. The woman received significant injuries, but were not life-threatening, according to the sheriff’s office.

“If this guy had kept going who knows what he could have done to other people,” Crum told KTVU, “He was just blatantly just going after people, driving after them.”

The security guard and second woman hit by the truck were transported to a local hospital by ground ambulance and were expected to survive their injuries. Koffi’s friend in the house treated their own injuries.

The officer-involved shooting is under investigation by Santa Rosa Police and the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office, while the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the assaults and events leading up to the shooting. The deputy has been identified as Jason Pasero, an 18-year veteran of law enforcement who served for 14  with the San Bruno Police Department before being hired by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office four years ago.

Koffi’s Facebook page shows he is a Stanford-educated software engineer who worked at Microsoft before now working as an engineer at YouTube.

The sheriff’s office said the incident was captured on video and intends to release the deputy’s body-worn camera footage.

Author of ‘Gone Girl’ slams attorney’s claim linking Jennifer Dulos’ disappearance to book

The author of “Gone Girl” says that allegations connecting missing Connecticut mother Jennifer Dulos to her book’s main character — who concocts her disappearance to make it seem as though her husband murdered her — makes her sick.

Author Gillian Flynn said she’s been following 50-year-old Dulos’ story, and describes the situation as “so incredibly painful.”

“I’ve seen in recent coverage that Jennifer’s husband and his defense attorney have put forward a so-called ‘Gone Girl theory’ to explain Jennifer’s disappearance,” Flynn told WTNH-TV. “It absolutely sickens me that a work of fiction written by me would be used by Fotis Dulos’s lawyer as a defense, and as a hypothetical, sensationalized motive behind Jennifer’s very real and very tragic disappearance.”

MISSING CONNECTICUT MOM JENNIFER DULOS’ FAMILY, FRIENDS DENY HER CASE IS A ‘GONE GIRL’ DISPPEARANCE

Flynn’s story “Gone Girl,” published in 2012, revolves around a seemingly happy married couple. On their wedding anniversary, the wife suddenly disappears, and the husband becomes the prime suspect.

Norm Pattis, a lawyer for Fotis Dulos, Jennifer’s estranged husband, told Fox News last month that Jennifer “had a troubled past,” and described her as a writer who “wrote a manuscript similar to ‘Gone Girl.”

He said Fotis was “emotional, tired, distraught” over the “exhausting ordeal,” and the disappearance of Jennifer.

A spokesperson for the missing woman’s family and friends slammed the comments, saying: “This is not fiction or a movie. This is real life, as experienced every single day by Jennifer’s five young children, her family, and her friends.”

“We are heartbroken. Jennifer is not here to protect her children, and these false and irresponsible allegations hurt the children now and into the future,” spokesperson Carrie Luft added. “Evidence shows that Jennifer was the victim of a violent attack in her New Canaan home.”

Jennifer Dulos was reported missing on June 24 and was last seen driving a black Chevy Suburban as she dropped off her kids at their private school in New Canaan.

FOTIS DULOS AND GIRLFRIEND PLEAD NOT GUILTY IN CONNECTION TO DISAPPEARANCE OF HIS MISSING CONNECTICUT WIFE JENNIFER

The couple was in the midst of a bitter custody battle over the five children. Pattis said Jennifer Dulos “seemed intent” on moving the children to New York, where her mother lived, against the joint custody agreement.

However, court documents revealed Jennifer Dulos was “terrified for [her] family’s safety.” She alleged that her husband, a custom home builder who was born and raised in Greece but attended Brown University in the U.S., “has a history of controlling, volatile and delusional behavior.”

Luft said Pattis’ suggestion that Jennifer Dulos’ disappearance was tied to a book she wrote was nonsensical.

“I read Jennifer’s novel in installments as she was completing the manuscript,” Luft said. “She finished the draft around 2002. (This was before she was dating Fotis Dulos.) Her book has nothing to do with Gone Girl (published in 2012).”

She added, “Jennifer’s novel is not a mystery. It’s a character-driven story that follows a young woman through relationships and self-discovery over a period of years. Like all of Jennifer’s writing, it expresses a deep longing for human connection and the need to be accepted as one’s true self.”

Fotis Dulos and his live-in girlfriend, Michelle Troconis, both pleaded not guilty to charges of evidence tampering and hindering prosecution in June.

Pattis, in a previously released statement, said, “We are continuing our investigation of Ms. Dulos’s disappearance, and believe it to be entirely consistent with the evidence to conclude that she was not a victim of foul play at the hands of third parties.”

He continued, “Efforts to distance Ms. Dulos from a Gone Girl-type scenario are well-meaning, to be sure. But the fact remains that Ms. Dulos remains accountably ‘Gone,’ and had the imagination, means and motive to disappear.”

Fox News’ Talia Kaplan contributed to this report.

Convicted Mexican drug cartel kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman owes the U.S. government more than $12 billion, federal prosecutors said Friday.

The prosecutors are now seeking to seize Guzman’s assets following his conviction back in February, following a three-month trial examining his drug trafficking into the U.S. as the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel.

REP. VERN BUCHANAN: USE EL CHAPO’S $14 BILLION IN ASSETS TO SECURE OUR SOUTHERN BORDER AND SAVE LIVES

The government aims to collect $12,666,191,704 from the drug lord and his narco-empire, the New York Post reported, citing new court papers filed in Brooklyn federal court.

Witnesses testified in court during Guzman’s trial the drug lord lived a lavish life and owned personal planes, had a private zoo with a tiny train inside it, and other over-the-top assets.

While Guzman’s wealth somewhat evaporated amid legal problems, prosecutors say that there’s no need to for the government to show that he has cash on hand in order to seize it – only that his assets once were worth that sum.

JOAQUIN ‘EL CHAPO’ GUZMAN DENIED OUTDOOR EXERCISE, EARPLUGS IN PRISON DUE TO ESCAPE FEARS

“The government is entitled to the forfeiture of all property that constitutes or is derived from the defendant’s narcotics-related crimes, as well as any property that facilitated the commission of those crimes,” the filing said.

“The government need not prove that the defendant can pay the forfeiture money judgment; it need only prove by a preponderance of the evidence that the amount it seeks is forfeitable.”

The authorities came up with the $12 billion valuation by meticulously reviewing and analyzing Guzman’s empire built on drugs.

Video captures American flag burning at Walmart, prompts arrest

An American flag burning caught on video in the parking lot of a Walmart in southern Virginia on the Fourth of July has led to the arrest of 23-year-old man.

Mitchell Lee Stauffer was not arrested over his First Amendment-protected right to burn a flag, but rather for allegedly burning an object in a public place with intent to intimidate, York-Poquoson Sheriff Danny Diggs said.

“The burning of our great American Flag is very offensive to most people including me,” Diggs said in the Facebook post. “That being said, the courts have ruled that act alone is an expression of free speech and not per se illegal.”

“This charge is appropriate under the Code of Virginia,” he said. “It is fortunate that no one was injured today.”

The yelling made those who heard it very nervous, the sheriff’s office said.

“We think this was to induce fear,” Diggs told Fox News Friday. “It’s really irrelevant if it was an American flag. He could have set fire to a towel and he would have been charged.”

The video was shot by a Walmart manager who hung up the phone when contacted by Fox News.

Texas man fatally shoots his sister before turning gun on himself in suspected murder-suicide

Deputies said the family was renting the home and had only moved in Monday. Officials believe the gathering was a housewarming party because there were still unpacked boxes everywhere.

Former New York City police commissioner wants Antifa classified as a domestic terror group

A former New York City police commissioner said Wednesday that he wants to see Antifa categorized as a domestic terror organization after its members brutally beat a conservative journalist covering a protest in Portland, Ore., last week.

Andy Ngo, a reporter for the conservative-leaning publication Quillette, was attacked by members of the anti-fascism group Antifa on Saturday when far-left antifascists clashed with far-right Proud Boys.

MAJOR BROADCAST NETWORKS BARELY MENTIONED ANTIFA VIOLENCE AGAINST JOURNALIST: GROUP

“This is an extremely violent group that goes out, threatens, intimidates, attacks with extreme violence for political reasons,” Bernard “Bernie” Kerik, former NYPD commissioner, said on Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Tonight this week. Kerik started an anti-terror task force under Mayor Giuliani’s administration, and Giuliani now represents President Trump.

“I think they should be designated as a terror group, a domestic terror group,” Kerik told anchor Brian Kilmeade, who was filling in for Tucker Carlson. Kerik equated Antifa to radical left militant organizations in the 60s, 70s and 80s like the Black Liberation army, the Black Panther Party and Weather Underground.

Ngo posted images of the aftermath on Twitter — showing cuts and bruises on his face. Some reports said he was hospitalized for a “bleeding braining” following the alleged attack. He said attackers also stole his camera equipment.

Kerik also said he was “appalled” at the Portland Police Department for not being more “active, preemptive and reactive” to Antifa gatherings in the city. He said he knows from his experience as police commissioner that the department knows in advance where protests will be held and roughly how many people will be there.

“I can tell you under Rudy Giuliani back when I was police commissioner, this would be absolutely all hands on deck to make sure this didn’t happen,” he said. Kerik went on to say that attacks in which journalists are “severely beaten, not just smacked around” seem to be growing in states with Democratic governors and cities with Democratic mayors.

“They knock people off the air, off of social media these conservative just for a comment,” Kerik said of bias toward conservatives. “I watched these beat downs, dozens of different videos on anti-conservative sites over the last four or five days. Just outrageous,” he said.
