The man accused of killing Mackenzie Lueck was formally charged Wednesday, as prosecutors revealed the University of Utah student’s arms were bound behind her back when her body was recovered last week.

Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill said Alooya Ajayi has been charged with aggravated murder, aggravated kidnapping, obstruction of justice and desecration of a human body. The remains of the 23-year-old student were dug up 80 miles north of Salt Lake City last Wednesday.

“Mackenzie’s arms were bound behind her back by a zip tie and rope,” Gill said. “A five-centimeter hole was located on the left side of her skull with part of her left scalp missing.”

Lueck was last seen alive on June 17 near a park in Salt Lake City, and investigators have said Ajayi was the last person Lueck was communicating with before she vanished.

Gill told reporters Wednesday that a medical examiner determined she had died from blunt force trauma.

A search of Ajayi’s home before his recent arrest uncovered a human bone, charred muscle tissue and part of a scalp with hair on it, Gill said.

Investigators reportedly later traced Ajayi’s cell phone to the area in Logan Canyon where her body was discovered. DNA testing of those remains, Gill said, found them to be consistent with the DNA profile of Lueck.

Ajayi, according to FOX13, is expected to appear before a judge at some point in the next few days.

In the process of the burglary, Sturridge said someone had stolen his dog. He posted a video showing his home destroyed and posted several pictures of his missing dog.

“I want my dog back, and I’ll pay whatever. It don’t matter, it don’t matter the cost,” he said in a heart-wrenching video.

It wasn’t clear who returned his dog, but police said the animal was found early Wednesday. Sturridge told police he doesn’t think the person who returned the dog was involved in the burglary, according to KABC-TV.

Los Angeles police officials said the department received a call at around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday about a burglary, according to the station. Police said other items were stolen from the house other than the dog.

No one was in the home when the burglary occurred. Sturridge posted surveillance footage of three people going into the home. He wrote in the caption of one of the videos that three men stole his dog and four bags.

California residents warned of earthquake scams after recent temblors

After two major earthquakes within two days of each other last week in Southern California, authorities are warning that scammers may be trying to take advantage of residents’ renewed anxiety.

The 7.1 magnitude earthquake that struck at 8:19 p.m. Friday was the largest one in Southern California in nearly 20 years and was centered 11 miles from Ridgecrest, the same area of the desert where a 6.4-magnitude temblor hit Thursday.

Those large quakes were followed by thousands of smaller aftershocks. The U.S. Geological Survey said the aftershocks will taper off, and the probability of another large quake — magnitude 4 or higher — also will decrease. But officials in Orange County have warned someone has been hyping the opposite, calling residents and claiming an even larger quake was on the horizon to get them out of their homes.

MASSIVE CALIFORNIA EARTHQUAKES COULD BE SEEN FROM SPACE

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department said that on Sunday night, four residents of Aliso Viejo reported they received a phone call saying there would be an 8.4 magnitude earthquake and urging them to evacuate their homes immediately.

“Dispatchers provided the callers with information that Orange County does not have an alert system that would contact them prior to an earthquake, and that it may have been a scam,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement to FOX11.

The city of Aliso Viejo subsequently put out a warning on Facebook, warning of the scam to get residents to evacuate their homes in an attempt to possibly commit burglaries.

“Our City and OCSD – Aliso Viejo Police Services only use certain methods to communicate emergencies other than in person, so please always verify the source first!” the city said.

The sheriff’s office said, so far, it appears no one appears to have fallen for the scam and no home burglaries were reported in the city in the days since the quakes.

CALIFORNIA EARTHQUAKES HAVE EVERYONE ASKING THE BIG QUESTION — WHEN WILL THE BIG ONE COME?

Residents of the city, located about 50 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles, blasted the scam.

“I think it’s terrible that people are capitalizing on people that are terrified of earthquakes, I personally am not super afraid of them but I know a lot of people that are still so shaken up and I think it’s really sad and unfortunate,” Aliso Viejo resident Debbie Crockett told FOX11. “I think the people that are doing this should be prosecuted it’s horrendous and it has to be stopped.”

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the sheriff’s office in Kern County, where the quakes have been centered, told the Los Angeles Times they had not received any reports of suspicious calls as of Tuesday.

“I think it’s terrible and it’s deplorable,” Ilene Rotstan told FOX11. “It’s a great way to get somebody to be fearful to leave their homes and then to fall prey victim to a robbery.”

Another earthquake scam was reported in 2015 in Beverly Hills, where a caller claimed to be a city official wanting to inspect the property for earthquake damage, according to the Times.

Officials have reminded residents that in an emergency, messages will be sent out over the Emergency Alert System on television and AM/FM radio in addition to Wireless Emergency Alerts to cell phones based on their location.

Anyone who believes they have been contacted in a potential scam is urged to contact the sheriff office’s non-emergency line at 949-770-6011.

Georgia man, 30, met girl, 13, online, tossed her from window during high-speed chase: cops

A 30-year-old Georgia man is facing multiple charges for allegedly throwing a 13-year-old girl he met online from his car during a high-speed chase in South Carolina early Sunday.

The chase happened around 3 a.m. in Columbia after deputies approached a vehicle in an empty parking lot, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department said.

The deputies observed a man – later identified as Augusta resident, Derek Jerome Nelson – climb from the back into the driver’s seat and take off, according to news release cited by The State.

During the chase, “the suspect’s vehicle braked hard and drove off the road,” and the deputies saw what looked like “parts of the vehicle flying in the air,” the sheriff’s department said.

The driver, wearing nothing but a T-shirt, eventually stopped and was arrested, the news release said. He told officers he was “hooking up” with a girl he met online, and she had jumped out during the chase, the news release said.

Investigators discovered that the girl, who was 13, had injured her arms and legs. She allegedly told deputies that Nelson, “her 30-year-old boyfriend” had “thrown her from the car.”

Nelson told deputies he thought the girl was 18 but had referred to her in a message as “my 13-year-old doll,” the news release said.

Nelson was booked in the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on a number of charges in connection with the incident, including assault and battery, and sexual exploitation of a minor, the news release said.

The bodies of a missing woman and her ex-boyfriend, who police believe kidnapped her at gunpoint last month, were found Tuesday on a private farmland in Texas, police said.

Jorge Jaramillo, 48, allegedly abducted Jessica Sanchez, 37, from her home in Devine, Texas, on June 30, according to the Devine Police Department. Family said Sanchez’s three young daughters witnessed the kidnapping, Fox 29 San Antonio reported.

The Medina County Sheriff’s Office have yet to release the causes of death for the two victims.

Gary Mangold, the owner of the property, said he found the two bodies around 3 p.m. on Tuesday in a remote part of his land that is covered by trees and brush.

“It’s just closure for the family now, and that’s good. At least they know. Not knowing is a terrible thing,” Mangold told San Antonio’s KSAT station.

Police traced Sanchez’s car to the edge of the private property on Sunday but did not go past the cattle fence line, Mangold said. The bodies were behind the cattle line, about 100 yards away from where police found the car, he said.

Jaramillo was arrested for aggravated assault after holding a knife to Sanchez’ throat on Memorial Day, Sanchez’ sister, Blasa Carrillo, told KSAT. Sanchez was granted a magistrate’s emergency order of protection against Jaramillo after the incident, police confirmed.

Bret Baier: Trump administration will consider ‘retooling’ citizenship question

Bret Baier has argued that the Trump administration will continue to push for inclusion of the controversial citizenship question on the 2020 census, despite being thwarted by the Supreme Court last week.

It was ruled last month the question couldn’t be added for now, but left open the possibility that additional arguments could change its mind. Civil rights groups argued that the Trump administration’s reasons for including the question were merely pretextual efforts to discourage illegal immigrants from responding to the Census.

“There’s a possibility of retooling it and going a different way at it,” Baier said during a Tuesday appearance on “The Daily Briefing With Dana Perino.”

CAL THOMAS: CENSORING THE CENSUS IS ABOUT POLITICS, NOT THE LAW

“The administration, at the president’s guidance, will try to do that,” the “Special Report” host continued.

The Commerce Department has previously said that the deadline to begin the process of printing census forms was June 30, but President Trump has made clear his desire to delay census printing until the question is included.

“I have asked the lawyers if they can delay the Census, no matter how long, until the United States Supreme Court is given additional information from which it can make a final and decisive decision on this very critical matter,” he tweeted on June 27, the day the decision was handed down.

The question was controversial and the subject of several lawsuits after many lawmakers argued that residents who are not living legally in the United States would simply not return the census – leading to misappropriation of resources and improper political representation.

Population counts from the Census are used to apportion House seats among the 50 states, and a new electoral map based on the Census will be in effect for the 2024 presidential election. States receive votes in the Electoral College equal to the number of members in their congressional delegation, counting both House and Senate seats.

James Patterson: Epstein case worse than Weinstein, Cosby, others during #MeToo era

Jeffrey Epstein alleged crimes are worse than Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein and comedian Bill Cosby, and arguably the worst of the #MeToo era, according to best-selling author James Patterson.

Patterson, who wrote the book on Epstein — Filthy Rich: The Billionaire’s Sex Scandal–The Shocking True Story of Jeffrey Epstein, discussed the disgraced financiers accused acts during an interview on “The Daily Briefing” on Tuesday.

Epstein was charged this week with sex trafficking and conspiracy during the early 2000s. He pleaded not guilty on Monday in New York City federal court.

“It’s horrifying… these are girls, allegedly hundreds of girls,” Patterson told host Dana Perino while discussing the charges against Epstein. The veteran author then told Perino he had been told personally that President Trump kicked Epstein out of his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida after learning of an alleged incident with a staff member.

TRUMP SAYS HE WAS ‘NOT A FAN’ OF JEFFREY EPSTEIN, DESPITE PAST COMMENTS

“There were some complaints about Epstein at Mar-a-Lago,” he said. “I spoke to the head of the sap there. I said, ‘did you ever meet Epstein?’ She said, ‘oh yes… he was inappropriate with some of the younger women there.’

“She said she went to Trump and he threw him out of the club.”

Patterson told Perino that hundreds of people have come up to him and thanked him for writing his book “Filthy Rich” on Epstein. The author also speculated that Epstein would get significant time behind bars, saying: I would be surprised if Epstein didn’t spend a fair amount of time in jail.”

Epstein’s case has created a flurry of media coverage and prompted questions about the president and others’ relationships with the accused sex offender.

Earlier on Tuesday, Trump said he was “not a fan” of Epstein, despite making comments in the past praising the wealthy hedge fund manager.

AG BARR WILL NOT RECUSE HIMSELF FROM EPSTEIN CASE, DESPITE INITIAL STATEMENT

During a meeting in the Oval Office with the emir of Qatar, the president was asked about his relationship with the 66-year-old.

“I know him, just like everybody in Palm Beach knew him,” Trump said. “People in Palm Beach knew him. He was a fixture in Palm Beach.”

“I had a falling out with him a long time ago,” Trump continued. “I don’t think I’ve spoken to him in 15 years. I was not a fan. I was not a fan of his. That I can tell you. I was not a fan.”

BILL CLINTON ‘KNOWS NOTHING’ ABOUT EPSTEIN’S ‘TERRIBLE CRIMES’

Back in 2002, when New York Magazine was profiling Epstein, Trump touted their relationship.

“I’ve known Jeff for fifteen years. Terrific guy. He’s a lot of fun to be with,” Trump reportedly said. “It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.”

Epstein and Trump were said to have been friends—something the president’s legal team has denied.

Epstein was also once friends with former President Bill Clinton and Britain’s Prince Andrew.

PELOSI CALLS FOR ACOSTA TO STEP DOWN OVER EPSTEIN PLEA DEAL, HITS TRUMP

Clinton, on Monday, released a statement acknowledging that he had taken a total of four trips on Epstein’s private jet, but said he “knows nothing” about the “terrible crimes” linked to Epstein.

Separately, claims in court showed that Trump may have flown on the jet at least once as well.

On “Daily Briefing,” Patterson said nobody knew of Epstein’s alleged crimes, despite him being a well-known figure.

“Nobody knew. You can’t do something like that. If anybody knows — I have friends in town right now. They live on the street. They didn’t know. They lived two houses away,” he said.

The best-selling author then said he believes Clinton did not know, and he “knows Trump didn’t know.”

Epstein was charged this week with sex trafficking and conspiracy during the early 2000s. Epstein pleaded not guilty on Monday in New York City federal court.

“The victims described herein were as young as 14 years old at the time they were abused…and were, for various reasons, often particularly vulnerable to exploitation,” prosecutors wrote in court documents. “Epstein intentionally sought out minors and knew that many of his victims were in fact under the age of 18.”

Epstein allegedly created and maintained a “vast network” and operation from 2002 “up to and including” at least 2005 that enabled him to “sexually exploit and abuse dozens of underage girls” in addition to paying victims to recruit other underage girls.

Prosecutors also allege Epstein “worked and conspired with others, including employees and associates” who helped facilitate his conduct by contacting victims and scheduling their sexual encounters with the 66-year-old at his mansion in New York City and Palm, Beach, Fla.

Victims would be paid hundreds of dollars in cash by either Epstein or one of his associates or employees, according to prosecutors. The 66-year-old also allegedly “incentivized his victims” to become recruiters by paying the victim-recruiters hundreds of dollars for each girl brought to him.

Texas police find second set of human bones near park outside of Houston

Police in Texas are combing a park outside of Houston on Tuesday after finding human bones at an abandoned property just steps away from where another set of bones had been discovered during the weekend.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez announced on Twitter that police once again have been called to Moncreif Park in Channelview after a volunteer search group recently “found bones at an abandoned property adjacent to the park.”

Those bones, like the ones found Sunday inside the park, were determined by a medical examiner to have come from a human, he added.
