A South Carolina police officer is being hailed as a hero after a dramatic body camera video showed how his actions helped save a choking 4-month-old infant.

Cpl. Derrall Foster of the Belton Police Department said he arrived at the scene on Oct. 4 to find neighbors waving him down in a panic, Fox Carolina reported.

SOUTH CAROLINA DEPUTY SAVES CHOKING 12-DAY-OLD INFANT AFTER STOPPING SPEEDING VEHICLE

A baby named Maryelle had stopped breathing after choking on a Tylenol her mother, Kiersten Nivens, administered to help the infant’s teething. The desperate mother had run outside for help after her phone battery died.

“She was not blue yet, but she was not breathing,” Foster told the station. “She was very limp. I saw my 2-year-old as if it were her, and I knew we had to take care of the situation.”

Video shows Foster performing a modified version of chest compressions for infants, tapping her back to dislodge the medicine from her throat. But the child wasn’t responding and appeared lethargic, he told the station.

Foster didn’t give up and continued to pat her back multiple times until he heard the perfect sound: Maryelle’s cry.

“Oh God it was very relieving,” Foster said. “I’m just doing my job. That’s all I was doing.”

After the scare, Nivens told the station she was thankful for Foster and all the first responders who helped her child.

South Carolina shocks No. 3 ranked Georgia in double overtime

The University of South Carolina shocked the unbeaten Georgia Bulldogs, 20-17 in double overtime on Saturday, giving college football one of the more surprising upsets of the 2019 season.

The No. 3 ranked Bulldogs missed a 42-yard field goal as time expired in Athens, Georgia, handing the Gamecocks their biggest upset win since they knocked off No.1 ranked Alabama in 2010.

It’s the first time a top-6 team in the Coaches Poll has lost this year.

It was South Carolina’s first win over a ranked opponent in three years and the first time an SEC team was defeated by an unranked team this season, according to USA Today.

The Gamecocks won despite being limited to their third-string quarterback, Dakereon Joyner, who entered the game after starter Ryan Hilinski was injured in the third quarter.

Hilinski wore the No. 3 jersey to honor his brother Tyler who committed suicide on January 16, 2018.

Georgia QB Jake Fromm turned the ball over four times, while kicker Rodrigo Blankenship missed a kick in double overtime to give the victory to South Carolina. Gamecocks kicker Parker White had connected on a 24-yard field goal earlier in the second overtime to give South Carolina a three-point lead.

South Carolina head coach, Will Muschamp said the Gamecocks have been resilient in dealing with adversity so far this season.

‘Toy Story’ doll was like getting message from child tortured, killed by dad, jurors say

At one point during the summer trial the resulted in a South Carolina father being sentenced to death for the brutal killing of his five children, a prosecutor reportedly showed jurors one of the dead children’s favorite dolls that was ripped to shreds by his dad.

Rick Hubbard, the prosecutor, identified the doll as the iconic Woody from “Toy Story.” The doll was damaged by the boy’s father, Timothy Jones Jr., to torture his son Nahtahn, 6, according to prosecutors.

Hubbard passed the doll to the jurors who flinched when the doll’s recorded voice spoke out, “Boy, am I glad to see you!”

South Carolina’s The State newspaper– in an in-depth profile about the psychological toll that the murder trial had on the Lexington County jury– reported that members said hearing the doll’s voice was like receiving a message from the 6-year-old who loved the doll “more than anything.”

The report said an FBI agent played a tape during the trial where Jones, 37, who killed all five of his children, apparently saved the worst torture for Nahtahn, who he made do exercises until fatal exhaustion in August 2014.

Over the next several hours, Jones left the house to buy cigarettes, taking his oldest daughter so she wouldn’t call for help, and leaving the three other kids with their brother’s body. Then he made a decision, just like the one the jury was called upon to make, the prosecutor said.

“He sentenced his kids to death,” Hubbard said.

In a confession, Jones said he strangled 7-year-old Elias with his hands and chased down 8-year-old Merah before choking her. Her last words were reportedly, “I love you, daddy.”

He then used a belt to choke 2-year-old Gabriel and 1-year-old Abigail because he said his hands were too big.

That deserved death and not life, Hubbard said.

The defense focused on what Jones’ lawyers called undiagnosed schizophrenia made worse by drug and alcohol use. Jurors last week rejected their arguments that Jones was not guilty by reason of insanity or guilty but mentally ill.

During his closing argument, defense lawyer Casey Secor focused on how much Jones is loved by his family even after the killings. His grandmother, father and siblings all asked jurors to spare his life.

“How much more death does the Jones family have to endure? How many more funerals does this family have to go to? How many more tears do they have to shed? How much more heartache to they have to endure?” Secor said.

The testimony was tragic. Jurors told the paper that they could hear each other “sobbing through the walls during the trial.

An 18-year-old soldier-in-training has died after experiencing a “medical emergency” ahead of a training exercise at Fort Jackson in South Carolina, Army officials said Saturday.

The soldier from North Carolina was pronounced dead at Providence Hospital, according to Fort Jackson commander Brig. Gen. Milford Beagle, Jr. Hospital staff said the death was not heat-related, according to base officials.

“The tragic loss of a soldier, our nation’s most precious resource, is devastating to the families, friends and teammates,” Beagle said.

The soldier-in-training was “preparing to do physical training in his battalion area” when he died, Fort Jackson said in a separate statement.

“Our deepest condolences & support to the 3rd Battalion, 60th Infantry Regiment ‘River Raiders’ on the loss of a soldier-in-training,” the base said.

The soldier’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

“I ask for your patience and consideration for our fallen brother’s extended family until the next-of-kin notification is complete and we are able to release his name,” Beagle added.

Officials said the soldier’s cause of death is under investigation.

The commander said  “separate investigations” will take place to “determine the facts behind the incident and provided in time to our soldier’s family, who rightly deserve this information.”

Fort Jackson is home to the Army’s main center for Basic Combat Training, often known as “boot camp.” The base trains 50 percent of those soldiers in boot camp and more than 60 percent of women entering the Army every year, it says.

Shooting at crowded South Carolina bar leaves 2 dead, 8 wounded

Gunfire erupted early Saturday in a crowded South Carolina bar, leaving two patrons dead and eight others wounded, according to reports.

Lancaster County Sheriff Barry Faile called the 2:45 a.m. shooting at Old Skool Sports Bar & Grill in Lancaster “a violent incident of huge magnitude that was witnessed by lots of people.” according to the Lancaster News.

Many of those witnesses declined to wait for deputies to arrive, the paper reported.

“We need to talk with everybody who was at the club when the shooting happened, and I encourage those witnesses to contact us immediately so those responsible for these deaths and injuries can be taken into custody,” Faile was quoted as saying.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., blasted those Democratic lawmakers who have publicly considered whether Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh should be impeached.

Several Democratic presidential candidates made remarks to that effect over the weekend after The New York Times published a supposed bombshell piece in which Kavanaugh was accused of sexual misconduct. The paper later published an “editor’s note,” saying the original version of the book excerpt published by the Times had left out key details.

Graham told Sean Hannity on Tuesday’s edition of Fox News’ “Hannity” that the Times story is “scurrilous” and that any impeachment proceeding brought before the U.S. Senate — which adjudicates such matters — would be dead on arrival.

NYT UPDATES KAVANAUGH ‘BOMBSHELL’ TO NOTE ACCUSER DOESN’T RECALL ALLEGED ASSAULT

“Two United States senators running for president have called for Kavanaugh’s impeachment based on an article in The New York Times that’s bogus,” he said.

In all, seven presidential hopefuls had called for Kavanaugh’s impeachment after the initial story was published, prior to the revision — including Sens. Cory Booker, D-N.J., Kamala Harris, D-Calif., Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., former Rep. Beto O’Rourke, D-Texas, billionaire Tom Steyer, former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro, and South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

On “Hannity,” Graham also alluded to the fact Boston-area Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., a member of “the Squad,” is considering drafting impeachment articles against Kavanaugh in the House.

The Gray Lady’s editorial update included the significant detail that several friends of the alleged victim, Harmon Joyce, said she did not recall the purported sexual assault in question at all. The Times also stated for the first time that the alleged victim refused to be interviewed, and has made no other comment about the episode.

The only firsthand account concerning the supposed attack in the original piece, which was published Saturday, came from a Clinton-connected lawyer who claimed to have witnessed it.

The lawyer, Max Stier, did not actually provide his account directly; the Times acknowledged that “two officials who have communicated with Mr. Stier” had relayed his supposed version of events.

Former South Carolina Republican Gov. Mark Sanford said President Trump is not doing enough to address the nation’s worsening debt problem.

The burgeoning debt is bringing America closer toward a very predictable financial meltdown, Sanford, who is challenging the president in the 2020 Republican primary, asserted Wednesday on “Your World with Neil Cavuto.”

“We have a profound spending and debt problem in this country,” he said. “It should alarm every conservative out there, and the president himself said, ‘If you elect me, I will eliminate the debt.'”

TRUMP MOCKS SANFORD FOR 2009 AFFAIR AFTER GOP PRIMARY CHALLENGE ANNOUNCED

He continued: “Instead, the numbers have been going in the reverse direction and we’re not having a conversation on it. I think we’re walking our way toward the most predictable financial crisis in the history of our country if we don’t address this, which is why I’m running.”

The former congressman also responded to Trump naming him one of “The Three Stooges” challenging him for the party nomination — along with former Massachusetts Gov. William Weld and ex-Rep. Joe Walsh, R-Ill.

“I think that’s what elections are about,” he said. “That’s what the voters ultimately decide in these equations.”

“You can only squeeze but so much blood from a turnip, and I think we ought to leave the taxpayer alone,” he added.

Earlier this week, Trump mocked a Sanford spokesman’s 2009 claim the then-governor was hiking in Appalachia when he disappeared for several days from the Capitol in Columbia, S.C. It was later discovered he had traveled to Argentina to meet María Belén Chapur.

“But now take heart, he is back, and running for President of the United States,” Trump said. “The Three Stooges, all badly failed candidates, will give it a go!”

Hurricane Dorian puts spotlight on homes barely recovered from Florence

Hurricane Dorian‘s lashing of the Carolinas with rain and flooding has shone a spotlight and a strain on some families who still haven’t recovered a year after Hurricane Florence.

“Florence was horrible because it stuck around for so long and we had tons of rain right before the hurricane. The ground is saturated and some trees were just coming down everywhere,” said Charlie Blanton, a homeowner in North Carolina.

One of those trees crushed Charlie Blanton’s family home. He says he still has several months of work left to repair the damages. He says it will cost $150,000 to fix everything up.

“The fan that was up here had water pouring down off of it, right there in the middle of the room,” he said, as he described the damage done to the roof of his home.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Florence caused $22 billion in damages in North Carolina. There is currently no estimate available yet for Hurricane Dorians.

We did some hurricane prepping, we brought everything inside that was outside, but we were also prepping the house that we’re standing in now, so we just basically had constant worry during the whole storm,” Blanton said.

Charlie says several houses in the area are still rebuilding. Due to the destruction, his daughter says she can still barely recognize the home.

“This was my room. Sadly, it’s no longer very much of a room. We had a bunk bed over there in the back corner, a toilet right here, which we don’t have anymore,” said Bernadette Blanton.

The Blantons have been staying with friends for over a year. About 400 families are still living in temporary housing since Florence.

For Charlie, with Dorian behind him, he says he hasn’t let his guard down. He is ready for what comes next.

“We absolutely dodged a bullet and I hope that we can get our house done before the next hurricane comes because we’ll be ready and now we know what to do.”

Navy orders ships, aircraft to leave Norfolk, Va., base ahead of Hurricane Dorian

The Navy on Wednesday went into overdrive to protect the world’s biggest naval base in Norfolk, Va., ahead of Hurricane Dorian.

The Navy sent more than 100 helicopters and airplanes inland and 20 ships to sea. Personnel filled10,500 sandbags to protect the flood-prone areas at Naval Station Norfolk, The Virginian-Pilot reported.

The base, which provided training during World War II, houses 149,000 personnel and provides facilities and installation services for the Navy, including some 75 ships and 134 aircraft, officials said.

The Navy estimated that 15,000-20,000 sailors were aboard the ships sent out to sea in advance of Dorian. A Dutch cruiser, HNLMS De Ruyter, was visiting the naval station when orders came to leave port.

Other preparations at the naval base included removing debris from drainage areas, fueling up emergency generators and preparing portable water supplies. In addition, sailors were urged not to leave their vehicles on base or near piers because of possible flooding.

Vice Adm. Andrew Lewis, the commander of the Norfolk-based Second Fleet, said officials have been monitoring the monster storm, which has been creeping up the southeastern coast and is expected to lash the region with destructive winds and storm surge.

The Category 2 storm, which ravaged the Bahamas with over a full day of deadly wind and rain, threatened to swamp low-lying regions from Georgia to southeastern Virginia. According to a flood chart posted by the National Weather Service, the storm could get dangerously close to Charleston, S.C., with a combined high tide and storm surge of 10.3 feet. The record, 12.5 feet, was set by Hurricane Hugo in 1989.
