A 26-year-old Cuban man was arrested at Miami International Airport early Friday after he was found in the cargo hold of a flight that had arrived from Havana, officials said.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said in a statement that a ramp agent encountered the man while unloading luggage from the undercarriage of Swift Air Flight 704. The agent called the police, as did the pilot of the aircraft.

“Police! Police! Juliet nine, Juliet niner. Apparently, we just came in from Havana,” the pilot said, according to WSVN. “Apparently, we had a stowaway in the belly,

Cellphone video posted on Twitter showed airport workers surrounding the suspected stowaway. A guard can be heard telling the man to “back away from the aircraft,” the station reported.

The man was refused entry and processed by CBP as a stowaway. Authorities in Cuba and the U.S. were investigating how he managed to get past airport security in Havana and get on board the aircraft.

“Individuals are taking extreme risks when they try to conceal themselves in confined spaces and CBP is trained and ready to respond with appropriate actions to prevent serious injuries or death whenever possible,” Miami International Airport Port Director Christopher D. Maston said in a statement. “Teams of CBP officers maintain a robust posture regarding the enforcement of our immigration laws while facilitating trade and travel at ports of entry statewide.”

An attorney for the stowaway identified him Friday as Yunier Garcia Duarte. The attorney told WSVN Duarte has family and friends in Atlanta who are planning to come to Miami to try and visit him.

Memphis store clerk who fatally shot teen over theft of $2 beer found guilty of murder

A Memphis store clerk was convicted of second-degree murder Thursday in the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old boy who left his store without paying for a $2 beer.

Anwar Ghazali, 29, faces between 15 and 60 years in prison for the death of Dorian Harris, according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal. He is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 23.

The shooting took place on March 30, 2018, after Harris walked out of Ghazali’s store with a beer he didn’t pay for.

Ghazali, carrying a handgun, followed Harris outside and fired several times, prosecutors said. He reportedly told a witness upon returning to the store: “I think I shot him.”

Harris was shot at least three times and bled to death. His body was found two days later in a nearby abandoned yard, The Commercial Appeal reported.

Ghazali’s attorneys said the shots were not meant to kill Harris but were supposed to be warning shots. Prosecutors noted that surveillance video showed Ghazali re-enter the store and continue serving customers after his brief pursuit of Harris. The clerk did not report the theft or the shooting.

Longtime FOX 8 New Orleans reporter and anchor Nancy Parker was one of two people killed Friday when a small plane crashed near the city’s Lakefront Airport, the station confirmed.

The pilot, identified by Fox 8 as Franklin J.P. Augustus, also died in the crash, which happened just after 3 p.m. The station said Parker was shooting a story in a stunt plane at the time of the accident.

Parker, 53, had worked at the station for 23 years. She is survived by her husband and three children.

SMALL PLANE CRASH AT SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AIRPORT KILLS 2, OFFICIALS SAY

“Today we mourn the loss of our longtime colleague and friend Nancy Parker,”  FOX 8 said in a Facebook post. “Details have not been released by authorities, but we can confirm she passed away in [a] plane crash while covering a story at the New Orleans Lakefront Airport.

“Nancy was a part of the FOX 8 family for the last 23 years,” the post continued. “She put her heart and soul into her work, covering thousands of stories and touching countless lives. She made a difference in the lives of those she reported on. She will be sorely missed, and her absence creates a void that cannot be filled.”

“Nancy was absolutely a joy to work with each and every day,” FOX 8 Vice President and General Manager Tim Ingram said. “Today we lost a wonderful journalist and remarkable friend, the New Orleans television community lost a true treasure, but beyond that, her family lost a wife, a mother and daughter. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.”

A Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) statement said the plane was a 1983 Pitts S-2B aircraft that crashed in an empty field about a half-mile south of the airport, which accommodates smaller aircraft, under unknown circumstances. That model aircraft is a biplane.

DALE EARNHARDT JR., FAMILY HOSPITALIZED AFTER SMALL PLANE CRASH IN TENNESSEE, SISTER SAYS

New Orleans Homeland Security Director Collin Arnold told reporters the plane crashed about 3 p.m., causing a fire.

“It looks like the plane is completely charred,” said Gerald Herbert, an Associated Press photographer who also is a pilot and has a hangar at Lakefront Airport. He went to the site and described charred debris lying near a fence in a grassy field.

Fox 8 reported that the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are sending investigators to New Orleans to look into the crash.

Gayle Benson, the owner of the New Orleans Saints, said Parker will be “sadly missed.”

“On behalf of my late husband Tom, to the family of WVUE-FOX 8, we offer our deepest sympathy to the tragic loss of Nancy Parker,” she said in a statement Friday night. “Nancy was an outstanding, Emmy Award-winning news anchor, who fostered great trust with both those who she covered and with her viewers in the New Orleans area.”

“Not only was she a leader in local television, she was a devoted wife to her husband Glynn and mother to their three beautiful children; Parker, Piper, and Pierce,” Benson added. “She was a dear friend and a frequent guest at local philanthropic lunches and at our family farm in Kentucky. She will be sadly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to Nancy’s family.”

Kentucky mother arrested after children found in cockroach-infested home, eating Pop-Tarts for meals: police

A Kentucky mother was arrested last week after police discovered her three young children living in a cockroach-infested home, authorities said.

The mother, Sarah Herald, 27, faces three counts of endangering the welfare of a minor and three counts of second-degree criminal abuse, the Lexington Herald-Leader reported.

Police responded to the home in Georgetown – about 70 miles east of Louisville – on Saturday after a neighbor reported seeing three “filthy” children who’d been playing outside unsupervised for a long period of time, an arrest citation said.

An officer saw three stained mattresses full of cockroaches and bedbugs – both dead and alive – outside the home. The officer said a foul odor emanating from the home could be smelled outside, Lexington’s Fox 56 reported.

The children – ages 2, 4, and 5 – were found inside the home “rolling in copious amounts of trash, dirt, discarded food and crawling cockroaches,” the arrest citation said. Police said the children were barefoot and “extremely dirty,” including dirty fingernails and toenails, the Herald-Leader reported.

The officer saw trash, cockroaches, dead insects, and insect feces throughout the hours, the arrest citation said. Bedbugs were also found on the children’s mattress, according to police. In the kitchen, police found a pile of garbage with cockroaches crawling over it, court documents said.

Twin brothers pulled over in Ohio for near-identical license plates while en route to Twins Festival

It’s safe to say: good things come in twos.

Twin brothers driving near-identical vehicles were pulled over Thursday while driving to the annual Twins Day Festival in Twinsburg, Ohio, after state troopers suspected the pair each had the same license plate number.

Andy Baker told FOX8 he and his identical brother Chad were heading to the festival from Nashville, Tenn. in separate blue Teslas when state troopers stopped them, although they were not speeding.

IDENTICAL TWIN SISTERS MARRY IDENTICAL TWIN BROTHERS

One trooper suspected the twins had the same license plate, making him do a double-take. Both license plates appeared to read: “SUBJ TO” to the officer — but moments later he stood corrected.

“He says, ‘Do you know why I pulled you over? You guys have the same license plate,” Andy told the station. “I said, ‘Incorrect’.”

Two twin brothers, who were sporting matching vehicles, were pulled over Thursday afternoon while driving to the annual Twins Day Festival in Twinsburg, Ohio after state troopers suspected defective license plates. However, one is an O, the other is a zero.

The two twins are real estate investors, and “subject to” is a term used in the business. “One is an O, the other is a zero,” said Andy.

Last year, the twins were pulled over by Ohio authorities for speeding while driving to the festival at 58 mph — making this their second run-in with the law.

Last year, both Bakers were ticketed, but this time their luck held and the state trooper let them go.

“Nobody likes getting pulled over by police, we were both nervous, but it’s a great story and we will tell it all weekend.”

An aspiring pastor from Iowa who had been married for three days drowned Tuesday while honeymooning in Florida, officials say.

Dalton Cottrell and his wife Cheyenne Hedrick, both 22, were in the water at Crescent Beach in Saint Augustine, Fla., when a strong current swept both of them out into the ocean, according to a St. Johns County Sheriff’s Department incident report obtained by Fox News.

Hedrick told police that it was Cottrell’s first time in the ocean and he began to “freak out,” pulling her underwater with him as she tried to save him. She added that her husband bobbed above the surface after about a minute of being under and she saw his eyes roll back in his head.

William Loy, another beachgoer, heard the couple yelling in the ocean and alerted a St. Johns County lifeguard.

The lifeguard dragged Cottrell, who was foaming at the mouth, to shore on his paddleboard and attempted to perform CPR.

Cottrell was rushed to Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine where he was pronounced dead.

Cottrell and Hedrick were both seniors at Faith Baptist Bible College and Theological Seminary in Ankeny, Iowa. The school said in a statement that the couple had married on Saturday in Kansas City.

Florida beekeeper says someone may have poisoned millions of his honey bees

A veteran Florida beekeeper thinks someone may have poisoned his honey bees and is offering $30,000 for information leading to the arrest of whoever’s responsible.

Horace Bell, 73, has maintained an apiary on a property near Deland, Fla. for years. But when he went to check on the bees last Sunday, he found millions of carcasses instead.

Bell, who has worked with bees for 60 years, noted that not everyone in the area is a fan of his bees and thinks someone is responsible.

In addition to the carcasses, Bell said he saw plenty of bees struggling on the ground – leading him to believe they’ve been poisoned.

“They’re listless. We know what the hell is going on, we got some experience,” Bell said told the Northwest Florida Daily News.

BEEKEEPER’S WARM-WEATHER WARNING: ‘DO NOT BE FRIGHTENED’ OF SWARMING HONEYBEES

Bell keeps about 20,000 bees across Florida, approximately 1,000 of which are the DeLand property. He’s reportedly taking the hives approximately 150 miles to Fort Pierce for safekeeping.

A state Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services inspector visited Bell’s property on Monday to investigate.

A 21-year-old University of Mississippi student who a friend claimed was “harassed” by her alleged killer “for years” died of “multiple gunshot wounds,” according to a preliminary autopsy report released Wednesday.

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department announced the result of the report Wednesday and formally ruled Kostial’s death a homicide.

Fellow Ole Miss student Brandon Theesfeld, 22, was arrested Monday and has been charged with Kostial’s murder. Authorities said Theesfeld was taken into custody at a gas station in Tennessee. Law enforcement officials told Fox 13 Memphis that Theesfeld was found with clothing that appeared to have blood on it.

On Tuesday a woman who said Kostial was her “best friend” tweeted of Theesfeld: “He harassed her for years, took advantage of her for years, I spent countless nights holding Ally close drying her tears about this monster for years.”

“You deserve hell you disgusting excuse for a human being,” the woman added.” … You will never diminish her sunshine”.

Tony Farese, a lawyer who is representing Theesfeld, said he and another Mississippi attorney, Steve Farese Sr., were retained on Wednesday. He declined to respond specifically to the harassment claims against his client.

“We are in the process of investigating the events surrounding the allegations against our client,” Farese said in an emailed statement to Fox News. “It is far too early to make further comments on this matter.”

Theesfeld’s father, Daniel Theesfeld, said in a statement to WMC-TV that his son “is innocent.”

“I have reasons to believe that. I can’t share anything now,” he added.

OLE MISS STUDENT FROM MISSOURI FOUND DEAD IN MISSISSIPPI, ‘FOUL PLAY’ INVOLVED, AUTHORITIES SAY

Kostial was last seen stopping at the door of a bar in Oxford Friday night but apparently did not go inside. Instead, officials told WLBT-TV that the 21-year-old went home around midnight before apparently leaving the house again, unbeknownst to her roommates.

It’s unclear how Kostial got from Oxford to Harmontown.

The University of Mississippi confirmed to Fox News on Tuesday that Theesfeld was a student in the School of Business Administration, and has been suspended. Fox News also has learned Theesfeld participated in the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program at San Marcos Academy in Texas. He graduated from the college prep academy before heading to Ole Miss, where he studied marketing.
