A 14-year-old girl vacationing with her family at Glacier National Park in Montana was killed Monday when rocks came tumbling down on their moving vehicle.

The family, from Utah, were riding on Going-to-the-Sun Road when a number of rocks rained down from the mountain and onto their vehicle at about 7 p.m., according to a Glacier National Park release.

The rocks, ranging from “fist-sized” to “12-inches in diameter,” landed on the roof and shattered the rear windshield, the release said.

The teen’s parents and two other children in the vehicle were also injured in the incident.

Paramedics attempted to take the girl to a hospital, but she died on the way there.

The FBI announced that investigators have found what is believed to be the body of a 2-year-old boy whose parents were involved in an apparent murder-suicide in Montana.

“We want to share with you that Montana authorities have found what is believed to be the remains of the missing Medford, Oregon, 2-year-old, Aiden Salcido. Thank you to all who shared in the search. Please keep Aiden’s family & friends in your thoughts…” the FBI’s Portland office tweeted early Sunday evening.

Medford police said the body turned up in a remote area of Montana. It was unclear exactly how he died.

The remains were found in the same area where the family had been seen several days earlier.

Medford police said witnesses called in tips after seeing the story on the news and were instrumental in helping find a remote camp believed to have been occupied by the family.

The boy’s parents, Daniel Salcido and Hannah Janiak, were found dead Wednesday in Kalispell, Mont., after police stopped them following a chase because they had felony burglary warrants for their arrest.

Officers found Janiak dead with a gunshot wound to her head and Salcido dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the FBI said.

Their child was not in the SUV — a 1996 GMC Jimmy with Oregon license plates, the FBI said.

Along with camping gear and clothing, detectives found a receipt in the car from the Kalispell Walmart dated July 25, the same day they died. Salcido and Janiak appeared in the surveillance video but Aiden did not, investigators said.

The Jackson County, Ore., Sheriff’s Office investigated the couple for a burglary in 2018, the FBI said. Both were convicted of the charges, and Janiak was to begin serving her sentence at the Jackson County Jail on June 11, the FBI said. She did not show up for her sentencing.

Felony warrants then were issued for the couple’s arrest.

Relatives described Janiak to law enforcement as a good mother who had mental health issues.

Relatives also told law enforcement that the family was homeless and would camp along the greenway in Medford.

Search underway for boy, 2, after parents found dead in Montana

Police in Southern Oregon are searching for a 2-year-old boy after his parents were found dead Wednesday in an apparent murder-suicide in Montana.

Aiden Salcido’s parents, Daniel Salcido, 21, and Hannah Janiak, 24, were first reported missing to the Medford Police Department on June 11, FOX 12 in Oregon reported.

The couple were involved in a police pursuit and crash in Kalispell, Mont., on Wednesday that ended when they ran over a spike strip and police found both of them dead in the car with gunshot wounds. Salcido apparently shot Janiak then himself, police reportedly said.

Aiden was not inside the car at the time and there was no evidence he had been inside recently, police said, according to FOX 12.

Janiak was supposed to start serving a prison sentence in Jackson County, Ore., on June 11 for a 2018 burglary to which Salcido was also linked, but she never showed up.

Felony arrest warrants were issued for Janiak on June 24.

Family members told police they hadn’t seen any of the three. They also said the family was homeless and often camped in Medford, FOX 12 reported.

Black bear finds its way inside Montana home: ‘He was tired and climbed up into the closet for a nap’

A sleepy bear looking for a comfortable place to rest gave one Montana family quite the scare Friday morning.

The Missoula County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call at around 5:45 a.m. after someone reported a black bear had entered their Butler Creek residence.

Once on the scene, deputies discovered that bear somehow managed to open the front door and deadbolt the door from the inside. Once trapped inside, the bear reportedly damaged the mudroom before “he decided he was tired.”

That’s when authorities say the bear climbed to the top shelf of the closet and took a “nap.”

Deputies tried to get the bear’s attention from outside, but the animal just “slowly stretched, yawned and, unamused, looked toward the door.”

Further attempts to usher the bear out went unsuccessful and the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Department was called in to tranquilize the animal so it could be safely removed.

Film producer shooting ad for prospective US Senate candidate likely drowned: officials

A film producer from Boston died this week after officials say he likely drowned in a Montana lake while shooting a political ad for a prospective U.S. Democratic Senate candidate.

The body of 40-year-old Jesse Hubbell was recovered Wednesday from Canyon Ferry Lake, two days after he went missing while filming a video for John Mues, a Navy veteran who is considering a run against Republican Sen. Steve Daines in 2020.

Hubbell, who was said to have some diving experience, was in at least 60 feet of water when he disappeared Monday. Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton said that Mues reportedly tried to help Hubbell before he went under.

Dutton said authorities have ruled the death an “accident,” likely caused by drowning.

He added that equipment malfunction and hypothermia also may have played roles.

The water in Canyon Ferry Lake is between 60 and 64 degrees, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks spokesman Greg Lemon said. Water that cold can lower a person’s body temperature and pose a hypothermia risk, but Hubell was reportedly wearing a wetsuit at the time of his death.

Mues himself was sent to the hospital after trying to help the victim but was released later that day after treatment for unspecified injuries.

Although he has not formally announced his candidacy, Mues recently told the Hill that he was planning to announce soon. A campaign website for Mues was taken down shortly after Monday’s accident.

In an email to the Associated Press, Mues called Hubbell’s death a tragic accident and thanked emergency responders and health officials for their efforts.

“My wife and I extend our deepest condolences to Jesse’s wife, family and friends. He will be greatly missed,” the statement read.

Hubbell was a freelance producer for 17 years from the Boston area who worked on films, documentaries and political and commercial content, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Montana hunters who illegally killed Yellowstone mountain lion left trail of photos on social media

Three hunters in Montana who illegally killed a mountain lion in Yellowstone National Park last year were caught after authorities followed a trail of pictures the trio posted on social media, according to court documents.

Austin Peterson, 20, Trey Juhnke, 20, and Corbin Simmons, 19, were sentenced last month to a 3-year worldwide hunting ban after other hunters alerted game wardens to photos of the illegal kill that had been shared to Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook, according to investigation documents obtained by the Jackson Hole News & Guide.

“You know, we ended up getting a lot of this information from a guy in Bozeman off of Facebook because you guys put a bunch of stuff on social media,” Yellowstone special agent Jake Olson told Simmons during an interview, per the documents.

Each of the men had previously admitted to shooting the mountain lion in a clearly marked area of the park on Dec. 12, 2018, before taking it back to their vehicle across the border. The documents claimed they later changed their story when authorities interviewed them separately.

The three men contradicted details in each other’s accounts, including when they saw boundary posts, the color of Peterson’s GPS screen when it supposedly malfunctioned and who shot at the lion, the News & Guide reported.

Authorities learned that all three men had fired at the mature male lion, which was shot eight times, and killed it after it crossed the border into Yellowstone, according to the documents.

The men’s actions were found to be in violation of the Lacey Act of 1894, per the National Park Service (NPS), which prohibits the taking, selling or purchasing of wildlife from protected areas.

Peterson, Junke and Simmons all pleaded guilty and were ordered to pay $1,666 each in restitution, along with three-year unsupervised probations, which included the worldwide hunting ban, according to the documents.
