Trump puppet cut from Vegas act over hotel’s concern about ‘nastier’ political climate: report

It seems “cancel culture” has even struck the puppet world.

Las Vegas headliner Terry Fator is dropping the puppet version of President Trump from his ventriloquism show on the city’s famed Strip at the request of the hotel where he performs, according to a report.

Puppet Trump has been a staple of Fator’s act for years, but The Mirage asked the ventriloquist to make the change to avoid escalating the political divide in an already polarized country, The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

PRESIDENT TRUMP TO HONOR JON VOIGHT WITH NATIONAL MEDAL OF ARTS

“They said, ‘This political season is very, very, very rough and it’s going to get nastier. Would you mind?’ I said, ‘Fine, I’ll do it,’” Fator told the Review-Journal.

Fator said the hotel has never asked him to make a change in his show before.

“When they ask politely, I do it,” he said. “We have a good relationship. It’s a give and take. I’m not a diva. I’m not going to go off and say, ‘Screw you’ when they ask me to do something.”

While Trump is gone from Fator’s upcoming Christmas show, “A Very Terry Christmas 2, The Sequel,” and the regular show for the foreseeable future, the performer plans to use the commander-in-chief in a series of Instagram and YouTube videos. Along with a puppet version of Bernie Sanders, puppet Trump will host a variety show à la Donny and Marie Osmond.

Other celebrity puppets in his Christmas show will include Frank Sinatra, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Justin Bieber, David Bowie and Bing Crosby.

Fator has made several other changes to his long-running show this year, including getting rid of his band and replacing his wife who got tired of guest-starring with pre-recorded comedian Fred Willard. Fator’s wife makes a video cameo, The Review-Journal reported.

Arizona man who sold ammunition to Las Vegas massacre gunman pleads guilty

A man who sold ammunition to the Las Vegas massacre gunman pleaded guilty on Tuesday in Nevada to federal charges related to an illegal ammunition business he operated out of his Arizona home.

LAS VEGAS MASSACRE DEATH TOLL RISES AFTER SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WOMAN’S DEATH

Douglas Haig, 57, was not accused of a direct role in the Oct. 1, 2017, shooting that killed 58 and injured more than 850 at an open-air music festival. Prosecutors never suggested that he had advance knowledge of the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history.

Haig acknowledged before U.S. District Judge James Mahan that he had no license to disassemble, remanufacture and reload bullets at his home workshop in Mesa, Ariz. According to investigators, Haig operated an illegal business called Specialized Military Ammunition from July 2016 to Oct. 2017, selling ammunition both online and at gun shows in several states, including Arizona and Nevada, Mercury News reported.

(Elizabeth Page Brumley/Las Vegas Review-Journal via AP)

Law enforcement first began to investigate Haig after discovering unfired .308-caliber (7.62mm) rounds in gunman Stephen Paddock’s hotel room, the Mercury News reported. Haig’s fingerprints, as well as tool marks from his workshop, were found on two of the rounds, and his address was on a box that police found near Paddock’s body, court documents said.

“Doug had no indication whatsoever about Stephen Paddock’s plans,” defense attorney Marc Victor said during a prepared statement outside U.S. District Court in Las Vegas.

Haig acknowledged publicly in 2018 that he sold 720 rounds of tracer ammunition to Paddock in the weeks before the massacre after the two met at a gun show. Tracers illuminate the path of fired bullets, allowing shooters a more precise hit.

Haig closed the business permanently following an FBI raid less than three weeks after the shooting, according to his defense attorney. His plea agreement allowed him to avoid a trial that had been scheduled to begin next month. Haig could have faced up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. His deal could get him about two years at sentencing Feb. 19. Victor said he’ll seek probation.

The Las Vegas police department’s initial assessment of the shooting reported that 58 people were killed and 869 people were injured, including 413 who were wounded by bullets or shrapnel, the New York Times reported.

Haig’s plea comes after a southern California woman, who was left paralyzed after she was shot in the back during the shooting, died last week. A coroner’s report has yet to be released. If it’s determined she died as a result of the injuries she suffered during the shooting, the death toll will rise to 59.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Married man arrested in Pennsylvania after saying he lured girlfriend to Las Vegas desert, killed her: police

A married man who may have been leading a double life was arrested on Friday in connection to a missing Pennsylvania woman after telling police he lured her on a cross-country trip to Las Vegas and killed her in the desert, investigators said.

John Matthew Chapman, 39, allegedly confessed to murdering 33-year-old Jamie Rae Feden, who was last seen on Sept. 15, but so far has not been charged with homicide as investigators work to locate Feden’s body, the Bethel Park Police Department said. He is facing several charges, including kidnapping.

Chapman convinced Feden to take a cross-country trip with him from Pennsylvania to Las Vegas to look at homes in late September, WPXI-TV reported, citing court documents.

Around Sept. 25, he lured Feden out to the desert under the guise of a photoshoot, according to the document. He allegedly told police he used zip ties to bind Feden’s hands and feet and tied her to a signpost before covering her mouth and nose with duct tape and suffocating her.

He removed the zip ties, tape and Feden’s clothing before leaving her body near the signpost and driving back to Pennsylvania, according to the document.

Feden was just over 4 feet tall and weighed 75 pounds, police said. She reportedly suffered from a rare congenital condition known as VATER syndrome.

While Feden was missing, police said Chapman sent her family messages on Facebook to cover up the disappearance and murder.

After he was taken into custody Friday, Chapman made a call from the police station to his wife Maureen. She told WPXI her husband said: “I killed her because I had to.”

The body of an unidentified woman believed to be Feden was found on Oct. 5, authorities said. Police were working to positively identify the remains.

Las Vegas police K-9 stabbed repeatedly by suspect ‘doing extremely well’ in recovery

A Las Vegas police K-9 was recovering Tuesday after being stabbed by a man who refused to come down from a roof, officials said.

“Hunter,” a Belgian Malinois, was stabbed multiple times on Saturday by 27-year-old Joseph Arquilla, investigators said. Arquilla had climbed onto the roof of a business around midnight and wouldn’t come down.

The K-9 was injured on the left side of his neck, just below his ear, according to photos posted online by the police department. Authorities said he “was lucky that the attacker’s blade broke at some point during the assault when it struck the dog’s collar, making it harder for the wounds to penetrate deeply.”

A custodial worker was critically injured Friday when a driver crashed a motorhome into the entrance of a Las Vegas-area casino after having been kicked out.

Police said Jennifer Stitt, 50, was booked into the Las Vegas city jail on an attempted murder charge in connection with the incident at the Cannery Casino & Hotel in North Las Vegas early Friday morning, FOX 5 of Las Vegas reported.

Buttigieg says he’s used marijuana ‘handful’ of times, defends call for nationwide decriminalization

Many Democrats seeking to unseat President Trump in 2020 are calling for decriminalizing marijuana possession on the federal level — including South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg, who told reporters Wednesday he’s tried the drug a “handful” of times in the past.

“I have, a handful of times, a long time ago, and I’ve also encountered a lot of people whose lives have really been shaken by the old war on drugs approach,” Buttigieg told Fox News in Las Vegas.

Nevada legalized marijuana for recreational use in 2017. Several other states have made similar moves, although the drug is still considered illegal on the federal level.

Buttigieg’s ambitious proposal has been to “decriminalize all drug possession” while expanding access to addiction treatments and improving drug-abuse and mental-health treatment.

Buttigieg also said legalizing pot would carry numerous business advantages.

“First of all, without legalization, you’re going to continue to see a patchwork of different state laws that create a lot of problems for legitimate businesses like this one,” Buttigieg said outside the Top Notch dispensary in Vegas on a campaign stop.

He added, “We not only need to legalize but we also need to pursue experiments, knowing the racial disparity and lives that have been ruined by sentences over marijuana possession.”

Other 2020 Democrats seemed to be on the same page.

Former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke toured an Oakland, Calif., dispensary last month, and called for allocating monthly stipends to people who were previously locked up for low-level marijuana offenses as a form of recompense.

Meantime, other candidates have admitted to using the drug before. California Sen. Kamala Harris, in a radio interview earlier this year, said, “I have, and I inhaled — I did inhale. It was a long time ago, but yes.”

ZUCKERBERG ADMITS TO ADVISING BUTTIGIEG ON HIRES, SAYS IT’S NOT AN ENDORSEMENT

Sen. Bernie Sanders, when running in the 2016 primaries, also acknowledged he tried it a couple of times.

“I smoked marijuana twice — didn’t quite work for me,” he told Yahoo! News.

Candidates have split over how they would legalize marijuana federally. Buttigieg said it would need to be done through the proper legislative channels, while Sanders has expressed that he would use an executive order to carry it out.

Buttigieg agreed that the stigma surrounding marijuana use should diminish.

He also made a pitch specifically to veterans. “Yeah, so I’ve met a lot of veterans who rely on cannabis for the treatment of diagnosed or undiagnosed issues, often service-connected issues like post-traumatic stress. And, another benefit of decriminalization is, it could pave the way for this to be supported with” the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Asked by another reporter if he had bought any items in the dispensary, which he compared to an Apple Store in appearance, he said: “I will not. I’m on the clock and it’s gonna be a long day.”

Nevada police officer saves American flag from side of Las Vegas highway

The keen eye of a police officer in Nevada helped rescue a wayward version of Old Glory from the shoulder of a busy Las Vegas-area highway.

The Nevada Highway Patrol shared on Facebook a video of the moment that Trooper Jason Buratczuk, an Air Force veteran, pulled over along the northbound lanes of Interstate 15 near Sahara Avenue on Oct. 2, after he spotted the American flag on the side of the road.

“It’s not just a piece of fabric. It’s a symbol of our country,” he told FOX5. “People have bled and died for that.”

Buratczuk had first spotted the flag in the northbound lanes but kept driving past. He then decided to circle back around to retrieve it.

“I was thinking, ‘How could someone let this fall off their car?'” he told FOX5.

Video released by police shows the officer pulled over to the left side of the roadway and getting out to retrieve the flag as cars zip past.

The highway patrol said that Buratczuk collected the flag and immediately brought it to a local American Legion Lodge. The American Legion took possession of the flag and will properly retire it in a burning ceremony that is held about every six months.

Officials are asking drivers who may spot a flag on the side of the road to not retrieve it themselves due to safety concerns, but to contact NHP instead to have a trooper pick it up.

For Buratczuk, whose father, brother, cousins, and grandparents all served in the Armed Forces, the flag represents more than just the fabric its stitched from.

“Maybe we’d be better off if we take a minute and think of what the flag represents, and what it means to people,” he told FOX5.

Two years after a mass shooting that killed 58 people at a country music festival in Las Vegascountry singer Jason Aldean tweeted that he thinks about the Route 91 Harvest “family” every day.

“This will always be a tough day for us,” Aldean wrote Tuesday. “Not a day goes by that we don’t think about our @Route91Harvest family.”

Aldean was performing onstage with his band when shots rang out from the 32nd floor of a nearby hotel, sending the crowd at the outdoor concert scattering for cover.

2 YEARS AFTER LAS VEGAS SHOOTING, BIG & RICH REMEMBER THE CHAOS AND THE HEROES

“For us, it’s sort of been a daily thing,” he said in an interview with iHeartRadio in September. “Every night in our meet-and-greets, we meet new fans who were here. I don’t think we’ve played a show this year where we haven’t had survivors come out to the show. I feel we do that on a daily basis, not just as the anniversary’s coming up.”

Brittany Aldean, Jason Aldean’s wife, also posted a remembrance on Instagram.

In December, Aldean will headline a concert at the Park Theatre in Las Vegas, his first appearance in the city since the shooting.

The shooter killed himself before police entered his hotel room soon after the gunfire. The motive remains a mystery, authorities say.

Miley Cyrus stalker arrested after allegedly saying ‘life’s mission’ was to impregnate singer

A seemingly deranged Miley Cyrus fan who was arrested at her show Saturday night reportedly told her security team it was his “life’s mission to impregnate” the superstar.

David Rumsey, 42, was in the crowd of her iHeartRadio Music Festival set in Las Vegas when Cyrus’s security team spotted him, TMZ reported. He was detained and later arrested.

The man was reportedly on the team’s “watch list” because he allegedly has made threats against the “Wrecking Ball” singer in the past.

Rumsey also has been active on Twitter in his quest to reach Cyrus. As noted by the tabloid news outlet, Rumsey tweets often about the 26-year-old, most recently before her show last weekend.

On Saturday, when Cyrus tweeted about her iHeartRadio performance, Rumsey wrote: “Can’t wait.”

“Been here since Thursday hoping to maybe meet up before if you where in town early. Love you and hope you give me time. We have a lot to talk about.”

Rumsey later followed up that he was “hoping not to be back at my room. I don’t want you to have to go to motel 6. I wanted to stay in one of the hotels close to stadium and banned from mgm hotels from when you took my soul. I’ll go check for messages of where to meet at. I’m in room 208 at Tropicana one.”

On Sept. 13, he apologized for “hurting” Cyrus and blamed President Trump. He tweeted he hopes they “can talk about everything in Vegas so I can explain all to you. I am wanting as much 1 on 1 time talking with you as possible. I know soon I will be partying it up with all the famous people but you are the only one I really want to talk to.”

“I feel a party will be having everyone try to talk to me and trying to talk to you might be harder. I know after we are together we can party it up with 2pac, biggie, Prince, Michael Jackson and all those we lost,” Rumsey said. “So any party you might have planned will be more of a pre-party.”

He has repeatedly tweeted that he loves Cyrus, and that he can’t wait to see her — and has even tweeted at her famous father, Billy Ray Cyrus.

Sources told TMZ it was his Twitter feed that made Cyrus’s security team wary of Rumsey ahead of the show. They handed out photos of him to staff inside the venue and warned to look out for him.

Online Clark County records indicate Rumsey was booked on a felony charge of making threats and was still being held as of Tuesday on $100,000 bail.
