Fox News’ Sean Hannity condemned radical protesters from both political extremes who demonstrated in Portland, Ore., over the weekend, saying there is no place in the United States for physical violence in pursuit of political ends.

“To each and every single person on either side that has an extreme agenda, you must stop this insanity — this lawlessness,” Hannity said Monday night.

The host said violence among both left-wing Antifa protesters and right-wing white nationalist and neo-Nazi groups must be quashed by authorities whenever it pops up.

“Police need to stop this and end it and drop it right when it starts,” he said.

He called for both sides to take their frustrations out in a more constructive way.

“Let’s not forget, we can have political disagreements but at the end of the day, we are all Americans. We’re all created equal. We’re all one nation under God.”

“In the United States, political differences — we solve them at the ballot box… We don’t need fists and baseball bats and mace.”

Hannity affirmed his and his show’s commitment to call out hate groups, racism and public acts of violence in any form.

“This show will always condemn hatred on any side,” he said adding that both the Antifa and white supremacist factions have one thing in common.

“They’re all tied to sick, ugly, twisted, evil ideologies.”

Rep. Dan Crenshaw rips Antifa demonstrators, blasts Portland protests as ‘sad showing’

In a Twitter message Saturday, U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw declared Saturday’s protests in Portland, Ore., “a sad showing,” and said the city’s Antifa activists paled in comparison to the demonstrators fighting for democracy in Hong Kong.

“In Hong Kong,” the Republican congressman from Texas wrote, “antifascists wave American flags, demand freedom and actually fight fascists.

“In Portland,” he continued, “ ‘antifascists’ burn American flags, demand violence in the name of socialism.”

JOURNALIST ATTACKED BY ANTIFA: ‘CRIMINAL CARTEL’ WANTS VIOLENT REVOLUTION, SHOULD BE DESIGNATED AS TERROR ORGANIZATION

Crenshaw, 35, is in his first term in the U.S. House after being elected las November. The former U.S. Navy SEAL served in Afghanistan and is the recipient of two Bronze Stars for heroic service and a Purple Heart after being wounded in combat.

On Saturday, demonstrators from both left-wing and right-wing groups converged in Portland, Ore., the scene of numerous violent confrontations in the past.

As of Saturday evening, the city’s mayor was declaring the day’s events “largely peaceful,” with 13 arrests and a small number of minor injuries reported.

Members of the Proud Boys and other conservative groups have argued that Antifa protesters have instigated violence at their events, but have often escaped prosecution because many of their members keep their faces covered during attacks.

In July, the city’s police chief called for new laws against wearing masks during such protests.

“We cannot allow people to continue to use the guide of free speech to commit a crime,” Chief Danielle Outlaw said.

On Saturday, President Trump threatened to push for Antifa to be declared a terror organization.

As a member of the House Homeland Security Committee, Crenshaw frequently speaks out on matters of security and terrorism.

In July, Crenshaw accused Democratic U.S. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., of using the U.S.-Mexico border crisis as a stage for criticizing President Trump rather than for proposing solutions to the nation’s immigration problem.

“What they really want is more commissions … more investigations they can point to, to call the president evil,” Crenshaw said during an appearance on “Fox & Friends.” “That’s what they want.”

In June, Crenshaw went after Democratic U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, accusing her of “literally repeating the lies of the Iranian regime” after she asserted that President Trump was trying to provoke a conflict with Iran.

At least 3 arrested at Portland protests as police try to keep Antifa, right-wing demonstrators apart

At least three people were arrested as far-right groups and far-left members of Antifa conducted dueling demonstrations in the center of Portland, Ore. Saturday.

Authorities did not immediately release details of the arrests. Earlier in the day, the Portland Police Bureau tweeted images of weapons it had seized from multiple groups, including bear spray, shields and metal and wooden poles.

Flag-waving members of the Proud Boys and Three Percenters militia group began gathering late in the morning, some wearing body armor and helmets. Meanwhile, black-clad, helmet and mask-wearing Antifa members were also among the several hundred people on the streets. The groups gathered on both sides of the Willamette River, which runs through the city.

Authorities used sound trucks and loudspeakers to remind demonstrators both sides to stay out of the streets or they would be arrested. They also set up concrete barriers and closed streets and bridges in an effort to contain and separate the rival groups.

“Over the course of the morning, several hundred demonstrators gathered in or attempted to move toward Waterfront Park and make contact with each other,” police spokeswoman Lt. Tina Jones said in a video statement posted to Twitter. ” … Portland Police and law enforcement partners continue to try to keep the opposing groups separate, although there have been limited interactions between individuals.”

Jones added that the demonstrators were “contained to a very small area of downtown.”

More than two dozen local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, were in the city for the right-wing rally, which was expected to draw people from across the country. Portland Police said all of the city’s 1,000 officers would be on duty for the gathering that was hyped on social media and elsewhere for weeks.

Police formed a physical barricade beneath the Morrison Bridge in Tom McCall Waterfront Park to separate the rival groups from sparring. The Proud Boys and their supporters were on the south side of the divide while the counter-protesters remained on the north side, according to reports by The Oregonian.

TRUMP THREATENS TO DESIGNATE ANTIFA A TERRORIST ORGANIZATION AHEAD OF EXPECTED PORTLAND CLASHES

KPTV and The Oregonian reported that some of the demonstrators began to leave in the early afternoon, with authorities briefly re-opening the Hawthorne Bridge to allow them to pass. The Oregonian reported that a group of left-wing demonstrators attacked a bus carrying a group of Proud Boys out of downtown Portland, breaking some windows.

“The Proud Boys contacted us or contacted the units on the ground saying that they wanted to leave and so we facilitated for them to leave the area,” Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Brandon White told the newspaper. “It wasn’t planned. It wasn’t orchestrated. We had a request that they would like to leave the area and so we facilitated.”

Among those attending the demonstration was Patriot Prayer’s Joey Gibson, who organized similar rallies in 2017 and 2018 that erupted in clashes. Gibson surrendered Friday on an arrest warrant for felony rioting but was released on bail hours later.

“I’m just here for the ride,” Gibson told The Oregonian.

Organizer Joe Biggs told the paper that the demonstrators “wanted national attention and we got it.”

“Go look at President Trump’s Twitter,” Biggs said. “He talked about Portland, said he’s watching Antifa. That’s all we wanted … Mission success.”

President Trump tweeted Saturday morning that he is considering designating Antifa a domestic terror group.

“Major consideration is being given to naming ANTIFA an ‘ORGANIZATION OF TERROR,’” Trump said. “Portland is being watched very closely. Hopefully the Mayor will be able to properly do his job!”

Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler said the message to protestors on both sides is “We don’t want your hatred, we don’t want your violence, but if you come here, we’re going to be prepared,” he said in an interview on Fox News’ “Outnumbered Overtime” on Friday.

“Again, when it comes to enforcement of our community standards, we support people’s rights to demonstrate, but we don’t care about who you are or your politics are,” he said. “If you engage in violence in this city, you will be held accountable.”

Patriot Prayer leader Joey Gibson arrested on eve of Portland, Ore., protests

The leader of a conservative group was arrested Friday in Portland, Ore., one day before planned protests involving supporters of the far-left Antifa movement and supporters of several conservative groups.

Joey Gibson, leader of Portland-based Patriot Prayer, turned himself in to authorities in connection with an arrest warrant for rioting, stemming from a violent clash in the city on May 1, according to the Associated Press. He was later released after posting bail, with further legal action pending.

In a video posted on Facebook, Gibson accused police of targeting conservative groups for arrests but not members of Antifa, even though masked Antifa supporters have been seen on videos engaging in violence during past protests.

Gibson asserted that authorities were trying to intimidate conservatives who planned to protest Saturday.

“They want you to not show up in Portland, they want to put fear in your hearts,” Gibson said.

GABRIEL NADALES: ANTIFA VIOLENCE FEARED IN PORTLAND SATURDAY — GROUP MUST BE CONDEMNED AND EXPOSED

Gibson, 35, was not connected to the events planned for Saturday but had organized Portland rallies that turned violent in 2017 and 2018, the report said.

Separately, a conservative group called the Oath Keepers has decided it will not participate Saturday, saying it did not believe organizers had done enough to discourage white supremacists from showing up.

Portland authorities have been taking steps intended to minimize the chances that Saturday’s demonstrations repeat the violence of past events. Personnel from more than two-dozen law enforcement agencies – representing local, state and federal government – are involved in trying to maintain order during the demonstrations, the AP reported.

“I’m confident that from a law enforcement perspective, we’re going to have all the tools and the resources and personnel we need,” Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler said Friday on Fox News’ “Outnumbered Overtime.”

The mayor, a Democrat, has drawn criticism over the city’s handling of past protests.

In June, conservative writer Andy Ngo was hospitalized after being attacked by Antifa supporters at a Portland demonstration.

On Friday, Ngo told “Fox & Friends” that he feared Saturday’s event “has the potential to be a powder keg.”

Precautions being taken in Portland for Saturday include plans by many downtown businesses to close for the day, as well as the planned closure of the Hawthorne Bridge, which connects eastern Portland to the downtown area, across the Willamette River, OregonLive reported.

Antifa’s ‘Iron Front’ symbol banned by Major League Soccer’s Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders

With another confrontation between supporters of Antifa and the Proud Boys expected on the streets of Portland, Ore., next weekend, two pro soccer teams in the Pacific Northwest are trying to help keep the focus on the game instead of politics at their home matches.

According to the Associated Press, Major League Soccer’s Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders have each banned the “Iron Front” symbol used by Antifa supporters from being displayed by fans inside the teams’ stadiums.

MLS president and deputy commissioner Mark Abbott explained the reasoning behind the league’s action.

“I think it was the belief of the league and the clubs that fans are at our games to enjoy the game,” Abbott told the AP, “and that there is a place for third-party political organizations or groups to express their views, but that place isn’t within our stadiums.”

In one variation, the three arrows are replaced by three axes – suggesting support for the Timbers as well.

Soccer fans, particularly in the Pacific Northwest, are more inclined to express political views at games than fans of other sports, according to the report.

On social media, soccer fans who support Antifa were not happy about Major League Soccer’s decision.

Past clashes in Portland between supporters of Antifa and the Proud Boys have erupted into violence – including at attack on conservative writer Andy Ngo.

Having faced criticism for the city’s handling of past confrontations, Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler and police Chief Danielle Outlaw last week said both political groups should expect to face a strong police presence this coming Saturday.

Wheeler issued a warning to anyone, on either side, looking to instigate violence.

A rabid bat attacked a tourist in Oregon on Saturday, which prompted public health officials in the state to warn residents of the encounter southeast of Salem.

Oregon State University confirmed the silver-haired bat had rabies after the victim captured it near Breitenbush. The unincorporated area encompasses the Willamette National Forest and includes hot springs.

Oregon man reunited with nearly $23G discovered in shoe box at recycling sorting facility in California

An Oregon man’s life savings almost ended up entombed in a California landfill.

The man from Ashland, Oregon had inadvertently thrown out a shoebox — that contained more than $23,000 in cash — on Thursday, tossing the box into a recycling bin outside his home. When he realized his mistake, the bin had already been emptied onto a truck bound for the Recology sorting facility in Humboldt County in Northern California.

The facility’s general manager told the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat most of the recyclables from the truck had been sorted by the time the man contacted Recology. Workers were nonetheless told to be on the lookout for the box.

Workers were able to recover all but $320 from the shoebox. The money somehow stayed in the box during the 200-mile trip to the facility.

“We take quite a bit of material every day so the odds of finding that are not much better than a needle in a haystack,” Wise told the Press-Democrat

Sister, 30, held in slaying of ex-Portland State basketball player, 22; two other family members hurt

A 22-year-old athlete who played basketball and football at Portland State University in Oregon was fatally shot Friday afternoon, allegedly by his 30-year-old sister, who was later taken into police custody.

There was no immediate word on a motive for the crime, which police said happened in a home in northeast Portland. Two women, identified as an aunt and grandmother of the siblings, were wounded but expected to survive, according to authorities.

The death of Deante Strickland, who had recently graduated, was confirmed by the school Friday. Strickland was also a state champion football player in high school, according to OregonLive.com.

“Everyone is shocked,” Deante’s uncle, Damien Strickland, said. The grandmother was shot nine times, Damien said.

The uncle told OregonLive that Deante left the house after he was shot and asked contractors working across the street to help him.

He said, “‘My sister shot me … I don’t want to die,’” according to Damien, who said the contractors helped the victim until paramedics arrived.

Portland State said in a statement the school “mourns the tragic loss” of Strickland.

“My heart is broken,” said Valerie Cleary, the university’s athletic director. “Strick was one of the best. He put so much dedication into all he did on and off the court. He truly represented our Viking values and his hometown of Portland. I will never forget his smile.”
