Ford’s four-wheel steering system could make big trucks drive small

The F-Series truck may be going four-wheeling in a different way than usual.

Ford has filed for a patent on a rear-wheel steering mechanism that could make its big pickups feel smaller, as recently uncovered by PatentSwarm.com.

Four-wheel steering systems are used on a few performance models from brands such as Acura, Lexus, Porsche and Lamborghini and are aimed at improving both high-speed stability and making them easier to turn at low speeds, the latter of which is particularly advantageous for a large truck.

General Motors launched a Quadrasteer system on its full-size trucks in 2002 that reduced the turning circle by about 10 feet, but the feature was a costly option that didn’t sell well and was discontinued in 2005.

2020 FORD F-SERIES SUPER DUTY CLAIMS ALL THE DIESEL TOWING TITLES

Ford’s patent depicts its version begin used on an F-Series Super Duty and describes a system that includes an electric actuator mounted to the backside of the solid axle that turns the steering knuckles through a series of links and rods as an alternative to the more conventional rack-and-pinion setup used by GM.

Ford has not confirmed any plans to put it into production, but the filing suggests that it thinks it’s on to something with its take on the technology.

Ford just updated the F-Series Super Duty for 2020 without the feature, so it could be a while before we find out for sure, but a new F-150 is expected to debut in 2021 and there’s no reason it couldn’t use it, too.

Rep. Lee Zeldin hits back at Pelosi over Iran resolution: ‘They’re just trying to punch the president in the face’

House Foreign Affairs Committee member Rep. Lee Zeldin, R-NY, pushed back Thursday on Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s plans for the House to vote on a war powers resolution meant to limit President Trump’s ability to conduct military action against Iran.

“Unfortunately, this [resolution] without any teeth is a press release,” Zeldin told “Outnumbered Overtime.” “They’re just trying to punch the president in the face with this resolution.”

“That’s why I think a lot of Republicans who would normally be inclined to support an effort like this don’t want anything to do with it,” Zeldin added.

Pelosi said Democrats have “serious, urgent concerns about the administration’s decision to engage in hostilities against Iran and about its lack of strategy moving forward.”

PELOSI SAYS HOUSE WILL VOTE THURSDAY ON WAR POWERS RESOLUTION TO LIMIT TRUMP’S ACTIONS WITH IRAN

The non-binding measure specifies that “Congress has not authorized the president to use military force against Iran,” an apparent bid to handcuff Trump should he attempt to order more airstrikes like the one that killed Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani last week.

The measure also “directs the president to terminate the use of United States Armed Forces to engage in hostilities in or against Iran or any part of its government or military” unless there is a specific blessing by Congress.

“Last week, the Trump administration conducted a provocative and disproportionate military airstrike targeting high-level Iranian military officials,” Pelosi said. “The administration took this action without consulting Congress. This action endangered our service members, diplomats and others by risking a serious escalation of tensions with Iran.”

“When Nancy Pelosi talks about the word ‘disproportionate,’ at what point is it proportionate?” Zeldin asked. “How many more troops have to die; how many have to get wounded?”

The House was expected to vote on the resolution later Thursday.

‘Wheel of Fortune’ host Pat Sajak’s daughter says ‘it was a difficult time’ when star had health scare

Maggie Sajak had one person on her mind when Vanna White introduced her as a special letter-turner on “Wheel of Fortune.”

“It was a difficult time for all of us when my father had his surgery, but I was so happy to help out on the show,” the 25-year-old told Fox News. “Vanna was very generous with her time and gave me a lot of pointers, and the staff and crew couldn’t have been more helpful or supportive. I’m happy that the shows went well, but I’m even happier that my father has returned to work!”

White, 62, the longtime letter-turner on the beloved game show, filled in for host Pat Sajak while he recovered from surgery. In a video posted to YouTube on Monday, Pat, 73, told fans that there would be a guest on the series before White introduced Sajak to the studio audience.

“As you just heard, Pat will be back next week. In the meantime, I’m happy to fill in,” said White. “But, you know, I could do this even better, hosting the show with a Sajak. Everyone, please welcome Pat’s daughter, Maggie Sajak.”

Sajak said that despite Pat’s surgery being a “scary experience” for her, he’s now “doing great and he’s so excited to be back next week.”

‘WHEEL OF FORTUNE’ HOST PAT SAJAK OPENS UP ABOUT HEALTH, RETIREMENT PLANS: ‘I’M AS GOOD OR BAD AS NEW’

Sajak also reminded viewers that she made her “WOF” debut many years ago as a young child and showcased a clip of Pat introducing her in 1996 while she mumbled in typical baby talk.

“I’m walking a little better now and hopefully I’m a little more eloquent than last time,” she joked.

Pat had never missed a taping until November when a sudden pain in his stomach quickly turned into emergency surgery to correct an intestinal block. Now he’s made a full recovery.

“I’ve actually felt ridiculously good for several weeks. I’ve been back in the studio spinning the wheel and nothing has popped,” Pat previously told “Good Morning America” in December 2019.

The star recalled the day he went under the knife as being relatively normal. He woke up and took a walk with his daughter, but things took a turn when he got home and prepared for work. He suddenly felt an intense pain in his stomach and was soon rushed to the hospital. Within two hours, he was in surgery.

‘WHEEL OF FORTUNE’ HOST PAT SAJAK SAYS ‘WORST HAS PASSED’ FOLLOWING EMERGENCY SURGERY

“You couldn’t do anything. I was in the fetal position, lying in the bed,” he said. “They try to give you various drugs for the pain. And none of it was working. And then they gave me something, I couldn’t even tell you the name of it, but suddenly, I wasn’t thinking about the pain. I just had these beautiful pastels and lovely faces coming out of it.”

The star noted that he wasn’t scared for his life, but was worried about his family should that have been his final moment on Earth.

“In the background, I could hear my wife and daughter talking. It sounded like they were a mile off, but they were right next to me. They were talking to each other. And I remember thinking, not in a morbid way, ‘I think this must be death. This must be what death is like,’“ he said. “Hearing their voices, I thought, ‘Boy, their lives are gonna change now.’ And I felt bad for them. I didn’t feel bad about dying. I felt bad that they were gonna have to deal with the aftermath. As it turned out, I was just high.”

Fortunately, doctors considered the surgery a success. However, because they’re not sure what caused the blockage, he was not ordered to adjust his lifestyle. As a result, he’s back at work after a brief hiatus.

“I’m as good or bad as new, and that’s great. I still have my wits about me. They didn’t remove that, so I’ll be selling vowels for a long time,” he said.

‘WHEEL OF FORTUNE’ HOSTESS VANNA WHITE REVEALS THE ONLY ARGUMENT SHE AND PAT SAJAK HAVE EVER HAD IN 36 YEARS

As for White taking over his duties, Pat praised her for agreeing to fill in while he was away.

“What a trooper. And I’m not being condescending in any way because it would have been well within her rights to say, ‘Wait a minute, this is not what you’re paying me for. This is not what I do. And I’d rather not,’” he explained. “But she’s a team player. And she was very nervous and not comfortable.”

The star, who has led the show since 1982 for more than 7,000 episodes, confessed that the incident as well as getting older have helped him appreciate his position on the show and what it means for people. However, he understands that he simply can’t do it forever.

“I’m not getting any younger,” he said when asked how long he’ll remain the host. “A couple of years?”

He continued: “What I’m really sensitive about is… I’d rather leave a couple of years too early than a couple of years too late.”

Thief steals unattended Papa John’s delivery vehicle, finds clever way to avoid detection

Well, that’s unfortunate.

A Papa John’s driver in South Carolina is currently without a car after someone sped away in his vehicle while he was delivering a pizza.

PAPA JOHN’S HAS NEW PIZZA IN TIME FOR FORMER CEO’S ’50 PIZZA’ CHALLENGE

Late on Jan. 6, the Papa John’s employee called police to report the stolen car, explaining that he was dropping off an order at the Arbon Glen Apartments in Spartanburg when the theft occurred. After the officers arrived, the delivery driver also admitted that he left his car, a red Nissan Versa, running while making the delivery, according to a Spartanburg Police Department crime report.

The driver told police that the Papa John’s sign affixed to the top of the stolen vehicle was equipped with GPS, describing it as a “function that couldn’t be turned off.” He then told police that his GPS indicated the car was only a quarter-mile away, near an elementary school.

Three officers with the Spartanburg police investigated the area where the GPS was indicating, but found no Nissan Versa. They did, however, find that the Papa John’s sign had been removed and discarded in the school’s playground, on the other side of a barbed fence that separates the school from a nearby row of apartments.

‘World’s Hottest Grandma’ raising money for Australian wildfire relief: ‘It’s the least I can do’

The “world’s hottest grandmother‘” is allegedly stripping down for a critical cause as she fundraises for the national firefighting effort in her home country, Australia, where dangerous wildfires are causing chaos.

On Wednesday, Gina Stewart, 49, shared a sizzling offer with her 14,300 followers on Instagram. For every $10 donation, the Gold Coast resident pledged to send a free link for “premium content” – reportedly featuring sexy snapshots – through the website Only Fans, The Sun reports. The funds will benefit various firefighting organizations and charities including the Australian Red Cross Blood Service, the Salvation Army and WWF Australia, Stewart said.

“You’re absolutely gorgeous. I’m very sorry that your country is on fire,” one user commented.

ADELE’S WEIGHT LOSS REPORTEDLY CREDITED TO SIRTFOOD DIET: WHAT IS IT?

“Great smile, who would not want to help you [?]” another agreed.

The proud grandma, meanwhile, said she’s simply doing her part to help out.

“It’s the least I can do,” Stewart said of her crusade, per The Sun. “My brother is an actor down in Sydney, he’s been working every day as a volunteer firefighter. His house has been really close to the firefront — so he’s literally fighting for his community.”

In an Instagram update posted Thursday, the mother of four thanked fans for their continued support and “thousands of dollars” in donations.

“So much love and gratitude to all of you who are helping with your amazing kindness and generous donations. We are making a difference and that’s what it’s all about, mostly to the wildlife charities in the form of thousands of dollars that is pouring in all night and all day as direct donations,” Stewart wrote. “So thank you all kindly from the bottom of my heart, it’s an overwhelming response.”

Stewart, who shot to stardom during the Maxim’s Finest Australia contest in 2018, has previously made headlines for sharing particularly risqué photos on social media.

In a similar fundraising effort for the Australian wildfires, one outspoken Instagram model claims that the social platform recently shut down her account after she decided to sell naked photos of herself for the cause.

A new set of evacuations was ordered Thursday in parts of Australia as hot and windy temperatures are forecast to bring “dangerous, dynamic” conditions that may further fuel fast-spreading wildfires.

The New South Wales Rural Fire Service urged the communities of Nowra, Narooma and Batemans Bay, located south of Sydney, to evacuate over fears that northwesterly winds were likely to once again drive blazes toward the coast. In neighboring Victoria state, fire-threatened populations were urged to act quickly on evacuation warnings.

“If you can get out, you should get out,” Andrew Crisp, Victoria’s emergency management commissioner, told reporters. “Because tomorrow is going to be a dangerous and dynamic day.”

Mississippi State to hire Mike Leach as next football coach: report

Westlake Legal Group CFB-Mike-Leach Mississippi State to hire Mike Leach as next football coach: report Ryan Gaydos fox-news/sports/ncaa/washington-state-cougars fox-news/sports/ncaa/mississippi-state-bulldogs fox-news/sports/ncaa-fb fox-news/sports/ncaa fox news fnc/sports fnc article 303bf148-7672-59cc-99bd-dd8ff6ef195e

Mike Leach is reportedly set to become the new Mississippi State football coach.

Leach will replace Joe Moorhead, who the team fired earlier this month after two seasons, Yahoo Sports reported Thursday. Leach will leave Washington State to take the job in the SEC.

NFL BOUND: QB JAKE FROMM LEAVING GEORGIA TO ENTER DRAFT

Leach has spent the last eight seasons with the Cougars. He’s led them to five straight bowl appearances and won two of them. The Cougars were 6-7 in 2019. They were 11-2 in 2018 and were ranked as high as No. 7.

The last two seasons, the Leach-led offense has had a quarterback throw for more than 4,000 yards. Gardner Minshew threw for 4,779 yards and 38 touchdown passes in 2018. Anthony Gordon threw for 5,579 yards and 48 touchdown passes in 2019.

MATT RHULE LEAVES BAYLOR FOR NFL AS SOME BEARS PLAYERS CAMPAIGN FOR NEXT COACH

Leach had become an eccentric figure in college football and has been known for his dazzling press conferences in which he can ramble on about anything the media asks him. He became a fan favorite in Pullman, Wash., and now has a chance to bring Mississippi State back toward the top of the SEC.

The Bulldogs have not had 10 or more wins since the 2014 under Dan Mullen. They got as far as the Orange Bowl in that season and lost to Georgia Tech in that game. In that season, the Bulldogs were the No. 1 team in the nation at one point behind Dak Prescott. However, the team was knocked from the post due to a five-point loss to Alabama.

Mississippi State has won 10 games three times in their history and never finished a season ranked higher than ninth.

In 2019, Moorhead led the team to a 6-7 season, which was capped off by a loss in the Music City Bowl.

Second US baby born after uterus transplant from deceased donor

A Pennsylvania woman who was born without a uterus welcomed a baby boy in November, thanks to a clinical trial that saw her receive the organ from a deceased donor, marking just the second such birth in the U.S. Jennifer Gobrecht, who was born with Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome, had undergone an extensive evaluation by the Penn Medicine clinical trial team before she was enrolled in the Uterus Transplantation for Uterine Factor Infertility (UNTIL) trial two years ago.

“When I signed up for this trial, I hoped it would help my husband and me start a family, but I also strongly believe in helping others,” the 33-year-old said, in a Penn Medicine news release. “My hope is that through this research, others with similar struggles will have the same opportunity.”

Gobrecht said she first found out at age 17 that she wouldn’t be able to carry a child of her own due to MRKH. The syndrome, which according to the news release affects 1 out of every 4,500 females, typically means a woman has functional ovaries but does not have a fully formed uterus. Gobrecht’s case qualified as Uterine Factor Infertility (UFI), which before uterus transplants became a possibility was considered an irreversible condition.

Gobrecht received her uterus from a deceased donor through the Gift of Life program in a 10-hour surgery performed in 2018. Gobrecht and her husband had already gone through in vitro fertilization while exploring the possibility of using a gestational carrier so they had embryos available to transfer into her new uterus following the successful transplant.

In November 2019, the Gobrecht’s welcomed their son, Benjamin, via cesarean section at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

“One of the hardest days of my life was when I was 17 years old and learned I would never be able to carry my own child,” she said, in the news release. “My husband and I have always wanted to grow our family, but we knew the limited options meant it might never happen. And now here we are, in spite of everything, holding our beautiful baby boy. Benjamin is a perfect miracle.”

In November, she gave birth to baby Benjamin, marking just the second such birth to occur in the U.S.  (Penn Medicine)

The birth was attended by a team of more than 20 specialists, and Gobrecht’s case was overseen by more than 35 health care providers and clinical investigators. According to the news release, the clinical trial will last between five and 10 years and include long-term follow-up after birth, as well as the removal of the uterus after delivery.

“In addition to providing families like the Gobrechts with a new way to expand their family, the research implications for this trial hold great promise,” said Dr. Paige Porrette, assistant professor of Transplant Surgery and co-principal investigator on the UNTIL trial, in part, in the news release. “This clinical trial is an outstanding and unique research opportunity to learn more about how pregnancy and transplantation work, and we are investigating many important research questions in those areas.”

The proud parents call their son a “perfect miracle.”  (Penn Medicine)

While Benjamin’s birth marks the first time a baby was born using a uterus from a deceased donor for the Penn Medicine team, it has been done once before in the U.S. by a team at the Cleveland Clinic. The baby girl was born in June, and her mother, who chose to remain anonymous, was said to be “doing great” at the time.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better outcome,” Dr. Uma Perni, Cleveland Clinic maternal-fetal medicine specialist, said in a news release at the time. “It’s important to remember this is still research. The field of uterus transplantation is rapidly evolving, and it’s exciting to see what the options may be for women in the future.”

The mother, who is in her mid-30s, received the donated uterus in late 2017 and became pregnant nearly a year later through IVF. She was one of five to have received a uterus transplant in the program, three of which were successful. The other two resulted in hysterectomies.

The feat has also been achieved by a research team in Brazil, which announced its first successful live birth using a uterus from a deceased donor in 2018.
