Illegal immigrants rescued at border wall in California after ‘perilous situation’

Three people were rescued over the weekend after they were found trapped in “a precarious situation” on a new section of border wall near San Diego, according to officials.

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection news release said that around midnight Sunday, agents on patrol saw three people perched on top of the wall near Otay Mesa. The three, a man and two women, attempted to enter the U.S. illegally in dense fog by climbing the San Diego Sector’s new 30-foot, steel bollard wall before getting stuck, according to officials.

“These three were very fortunate to not have fallen from the top of the wall, which could have resulted in serious injury or death,” CBP San Diego Sector’s Acting Chief Patrol Agent Aaron Heitke said in a statement. “These dangers are not important considerations to smugglers, who place an emphasis on profits over safety.”

The trio ended up on the wet, slippery wall after smugglers abandoned them, which officials said left them in “a precarious situation.”

Agents called in firefighters with San Diego Fire Department to get the group down safely using a ladder truck

Once on the ground, agents questioned the group and found all three were Mexican citizens illegally trying to cross into the United States, Border Patrol said.

A 36-year-old male, a 20-year-old female, and an 18-year-old female were transported to a nearby Border Patrol station for processing. Officials did not say how they got on top of the wall.

The new stretch of border wall includes 14 miles of 18-foot, primary steel bollard fencing built in San Diego County as part of President Trump’s campaign promise to build a wall along the southern border. It has a secondary 30-foot steel bollard barrier behind.

The new construction replaced 8-foot landing mats, usually supported by a steel mesh behind them.

The project to install 14 miles of replacement barriers began in May 2018 and is now complete. The secondary project began in February 2019 and it includes 2 miles of wall that did not exist before, officials say.

Trump visited the San Diego project in September and described it in glowing terms — even signing his name on the barrier.

“So it’s a very powerful, very powerful wall, the likes of which, probably, to this extent, has not been built before,” he said.

“But the numbers now are way down,” he later added. “And as the wall goes up — literally, as the wall goes up, the numbers go down.”

How effectively the new barrier deters migrants and stops crossings is tough to calculate. The construction of the wall, however, did coincide with a sharp decline in apprehensions. In August 2019, there were 3,326 apprehensions in the San Diego sector, down from 6,880 in March and 5,884 in May.

Rep. Kinzinger: Pelosi, Dems will ‘regret’ opposition to Trump’s Iran strategy in November

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democrats will regret their decision to accuse the Trump administration of escalating tensions with the Iranian regime come election time in November, Rep. Adam Kinzinger. R-Ill., said Wednesday.

Appearing on “Fox & Friends,” Kinzinger said that he believes this point in time may be an “opportunity” for the United States to “kind of walk back from this cliff that Iran has brought us to.”

Iran fired as many as 15 ballistic missiles into Iraq Wednesday, officials said, in a major retaliation by the rogue regime after a U.S. drone strike that killed Iranian Quds Force Gen. Qassem Soleimani last week.

IRAN’S SUPREME LEADER CALLS MISSILE STRIKE AT BASES A ‘SLAP IN THE FACE,’ WARNS IT’S NOT ENOUGH

“So, now is the moment where I think the president — whatever he does — he will have the information. He’ll make the right decision. Hopefully, we are walking back from Iran’s escalation, but we can finish any fight,” he said.

Kinzinger said he would argue that “anybody” who says the United States is escalating does not know the region or the history.

“This is what’s amazing to me; is this [revisionist] history…You know, this idea that this was America’s fault. That it wasn’t our mistake in leaving Iraq that actually led to this in the first place,” he told the “Friends” hosts.

Pelosi slammed the administration in a tweet on Tuesday following the Iranian airstrikes:

“Closely monitoring the situation following bombings targeting U.S. troops in Iraq,” she wrote. “We must ensure the safety of our servicemembers, including ending needless provocations from the Administration and demanding that Iran cease its violence. America & world cannot afford war.”

“You know, at the time when Americans are having missiles raining down on them, we should actually rally around the flag. There is plenty of time for politics. We have a whole year until the election,” Kinzinger commented.

“But, during that, for the speaker to basically — in essence — accuse the president for these missiles coming down on the American soldiers is something I think they are going to regret,” he stated. “They are going to regret their — basically — opposition to this strike. They are going to regret all this stuff when it comes to November.”

Kinzinger said that the “second” last week’s airstrike took place, “it turned into politics.”

“I supported Obama when he took big actions that we needed to. They don’t think that way,” he continued. “And, that is why it’s important for us to stand together and also not to leave Iraq. To stand with the Iraqi people who really do want us there and not their puppet government that exists to this day.”

U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., fired back at the media Tuesday after drawing criticism for posting a fake image of former President Obama shaking hands with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

Gosar explained that his intent was simply to criticize both political figures — not to suggest that the image was authentic. He took particular aim at Daniel Medina, a reporter for The Intercept who took the congressman to task, suggesting that Gosar was trying to say Obama and Rouhani had actually met and that Rouhani was now out of power.

“To the dim witted reporters like @dmedin11,” Gosar wrote, “no one said this wasn’t photoshopped. No one said the president of Iran was dead. No one said Obama met with Rouhani in person. The tweet says: “the world is a better place without either of them in power”.”

The image has bounced around social media for several years and was created from a real photo of Obama meeting with then-Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, The New York Times reported.

Obama and Rouhani, who is still in power, have never met in person, according to The Times.

Also criticizing Gosar was Gen. Michael Hayden, a former CIA director under Obama and President George W. Bush, and head of the National Security Agency under Bush.

“You’re an idiot,” Hayden wrote to the congressman.

Iran is refusing to hand over the black box of the doomed Ukrainian airliner to Boeing amid an investigation into what caused the crash that killed all 176 people aboard the flight out of Tehran early Wednesday, according to a report.

UKRAINIAN PLANE CARRYING 176 PASSENGERS CRASHES OUTSIDE TEHRAN AIRPORT KILLING ALL ON BOARD, UKRAINE SAYS

Ali Abedzadeh, the head of Tehran’s civil aviation organization, told Mehr news agency in Tehran that Iran has not made a decision on which country or international authority it would send the black box to for its data to be analyzed, Reuters reported.

The Boeing Company is an American aerospace company headquartered out of Chicago. It is the world’s largest manufacturer of commercial jet transports. Boeing also designs, manufactures and sells military aircraft, helicopters, space vehicles, missiles and communication equipment worldwide.

The crash of the Ukraine International Airlines flight came hours after Iran fired as many as 15 ballistic missiles on Iraqi bases housing U.S. soldiers in a major retaliation by the rogue regime after the U.S. airstrike that killed Iranian Quds Force Gen. Qassem Soleimani last week.

No Americans were aboard the flight. Three Britons, three Germans, 63 Canadians, 10 Swedes, 11 Ukrainians, 82 Iranians and four Afghans died in the crash, Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry Vadym Prystaiko said.

The timing of the crash fueled speculation on social media that the earlier missile strike played a role in the crash shortly after takeoff from the Imam Khomeini International Airport, but authorities have pointed to a mechanical issue.

Qassem Biniaz, a spokesman for Iran’s Road and Transportation Ministry, said one of the plane’s engines caught fire, causing the pilot to lose control of the aircraft, sending it crashing to the ground.

Cory Mills: Swift US response needed to Iranian missile attack – Trump understands we must protect Americans

As we wait to see how the U.S. will respond to Iran’s firing of up to 15 ballistic missiles at American troops in Iraq early Wednesday, I want to thank President Trump for making difficult decisions to protect Americans around the world, such as his order to kill Iranian terrorist Gen. Qassem Soleimani on Friday.

Iran said it launched its attack Wednesday to retaliate for the killing for Soleimani. Fortunately, U.S. officials reported there were no casualties from the Iranian missile attack on two bases where members of the American military are stationed.

Now only a swift and resolute U.S. response to Wednesday’s attack and Iran’s continued state-sponsored terrorism will save Iraq and U.S. interests from Iranian fanatics lashing out to deflect tension from Iran’s economic free-fall caused by corrupt and unreasonable leadership.

IRAN LAUNCHES 15 BALLISTIC MISSILES INTO IRAQ TARGETING US, COALITION FORCES, OFFICIALS SAY

If you listen to the rhetoric by Democrats, their real message is: Not a single American life is worth protecting.

Media pundits continue to question the credibility of the intelligence that President Trump and his team received regarding the threat posed by Soleimani. But in fact, this one terrorist and the Iranian regime behind him have a long history of murder and other violent acts.

More from Opinion

Ever since Soleimani was killed, Democrats have been turning to the media to ridicule President Trump, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Secretary of Defense Mark Esper, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Miley for their decision to conduct a counterterrorism operation against two known and blacklisted terrorists – Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.

Many Americans recognize names of terrorist mass murderers such as Usama bin Laden, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, and Muqtada al-Sadr. But many are only now learning about Soleimani because he maintained a relatively low-key profile for a large portion of his career – tradecraft refined over decades of covert operations against Israel and the West.

Soleimani commanded the elite Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. If Trump had not ended the general’s reign of terror, Soleimani would no doubt have been responsible for many more deaths.

President Trump’s diplomatic overtures to Iran were met with unreasonable preconditions. In fact, Iran’s response to a meeting offered by President Trump was to insist that America lift economic sanctions on the Islamic Republic first – then, possibly, there might be a meeting. e.

Many Democrats have acknowledged that Soleimani and the Quds Force have been directly or indirectly responsible for Americans being targeted and killed abroad. But then nearly in the same breath, they state this was not the right time to take out the terrorist.

I’m quite certain the Gold Star families and others directly impacted by Soleimani and the Quds Force’s terrorism feel much differently.

When is the right time to kill a known terrorist responsible for hundreds of American deaths and thousands of others? How many American lives are worth protecting?

Clearly, under President Obama the four American lives lost in Benghazi were not worth protecting, as we witnessed no response for countless requests for support to an American diplomatic outpost and CIA base filled with Americans. If President Trump had been in office, we would not have seen a similar outcome in Libya.

We now have an administration that does not acquiesce and draw imaginary “red lines.”  President Trump’s message is clear that if any American or U.S. interests are targeted by terrorists, we will respond swiftly and appropriately.

A magnitude 4.9 earthquake hit Iran early Wednesday morning on a volatile day in the region, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake struck in the southwestern part of the country near the Bushehr nuclear plant.

The country also launched a retaliatory missile attack against coalition forces in Iraq Wednesday for a U.S. airstrike that killed top Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani early Friday morning.

IRAN LAUNCHES 15 BALLISTIC MISSILES INTO IRAQ TARGETING US, COALITION FORCES, OFFICIALS SAY

After the missile attack, 179 people died in a Ukraine International Airlines plane crash that went down near Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport.

Dozens of mourners were also killed Tuesday during a stampede at Soleimani’s funeral, state media reported.

There is no evidence that the earthquake or the plane crash were related to the attacks.

There have been no reported injuries or damage from the latest quake.

A magnitude 5.9 quake that hit the northwestern part of the country in November killed five people and injured more than 300 others.

In 2003, 26,000 people died after a magnitude 6.6 earthquake in the historic city of Bam.

Outspoken ex-NFL player Colin Kaepernick and  Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn. and other far-left “Squad” members all repeatedly make a mockery of veterans and are tearing the U.S. apart.

That’s according to U.S. Rep. Bradley Byrne, an Alabama Republican who’s hoping to unseat Democratic incumbent U.S. Sen. Doug Jones come November.

PETE HEGSETH FIRES BACK AT AOC FOR ‘WAR CRIME’ TWEET: ‘YOU’VE LOST YOUR MIND’

Byrne also makes his message personal in a new campaign ad released Monday by referencing his brother Dale Byrne, an Army veteran who died in 2013 of a heart attack following a lengthy respiratory illness that family members claim he contracted while deployed in the Middle East.

“When the towers fell, I knew my brother would be going to war. Dale was a true patriot. I can’t bring him back. I miss him every day,” Bradley Byrne tells the camera while seated in front of a campfire outside his family’s farmhouse in north Baldwin County where he and his brother grew up.

“It hurts me to hear Ilhan Omar cheapening 9/11. Entitled athletes dishonoring our flag. The Squad attacking America,” he continues while images of Kaepernick, Omar and Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., and Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., flash over the campfire flames.

“It hurts me to hear Ilhan Omar cheapening 9/11. Entitled athletes dishonoring our flag. The Squad attacking America.”

— U.S. Rep. Bradley Byrne, candidate for U.S. Senate seat

“Dale fought for that right,” a visibly emotional Byrne says, “but I will not let them tear our country apart.”

“That’s why I’m running for U.S. Senate,” he concludes.

Kaepernick previously faced a wave of backlash after he claimed to protest systemic racism by kneeling during the national anthem before NFL games before completed his contract with the San Francisco 49ers.

Meanwhile, the four members of the Democratic “Squad” of freshman congresswomen frequently clash with President Trump, as well as their own party’s establishment, making headlines last year for a war of words with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi who spoke of them in dismissive terms. Ocasio-Cortez and Tlaib recently drew criticism from veterans and others after accusing President Trump of committing “war crimes” for ordering the drone strike that killed Iranian Gen. Byrne will compete against former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions and five others for the GOP nomination in this year’s Senate race. They’re all vying to take on Jones — who is considered the most endangered Democrat in the U.S. Senate because he represents a usually reliably red state.

Jones defeated Republican Roy Moore in a 2017 special election to fill the Senate vacancy created when Sessions joined the Trump administration. He’s the first Democrat to represent Alabama in the Senate since 1997.

In a December interview, Jones brushed off concerns that a vote to remove President Trump from office would doom his chances of reelection in 2020.

The GOP primary in Alabama is scheduled for March 3, AL.com reported.

Anti-Trump demonstrators walk in circles in Senate building’s lobby, call for president’s conviction

Demonstrators gathered at the Hart Senate Office Building in Washington on Tuesday, where they walked quietly in circles to call for President Trump‘s conviction following last month’s impeachment vote — and protest the prospect of war due to escalated tensions between the U.S. and Iran.

Capitol police using a megaphone told the demonstrators that protests are prohibited within Senate office buildings — although no one was reportedly arrested.

“If you do not cease and desist you will be placed under arrest,” police told them, according to a video taken by Julio Rosas of Townhall.

The group wore black T-shirts with each person donning a single letter that spelled “Remove Trump,” when they each stood side by side in the building’s lobby. As they stood, numerous people behind them were seen walking in circles in a trance-like state.

Many appeared to have “No War” written on their hands in black ink — and held up there hands as if to say, “Don’t shoot!”

Because they were there on a weekday, and announced they planned to be in the building every day, Rosas asked the group’s spokeswoman if they had jobs.

She said they came from all different walks of life and some were from the local area.

“Some people have taken time off from work. … Our country is in danger and you have to make a choice to go away from your families and friends and your work and sacrifice your life for the better good of the nation,” the spokeswoman said.

Users on Twitter had a range of reactions to the protests.

Joe Biden saw Iran’s Clinton-era attack as ‘act of war’ requiring payback — now warns Trump about ‘escalatory move’

Former Vice President Joe Biden took some heat on social media this week after an old TV clip surfaced in which Biden called a deadly Iranian attack against U.S. airmen an “act of war.”

The U.S. can “take whatever action it deems appropriate,” the then-U.S. senator told ABC’s Sam Donaldson on “This Week” regarding Iran’s tanker truck bombing of the Khobar Towers, a U.S. Air Force military housing complex in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, that killed 19 airmen and injured more than 500 others.

Critics were quick to point out the difference between Biden’s rhetoric back then — when Democrat Bill Clinton was president — and his rebuke this week of the U.S. airstrike ordered by President Trump that killed top Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani last Friday, which Biden called a “hugely escalatory move.”

“Didn’t Joe just criticize President Trump for doing exactly what he states in this interview should be done?” one Twitter user wrote. “How can people stand this level of lies and hypocrisy? Either side? What have we become? Lie when it benefits you.”

“Hypocrisy just comes naturally to all Democrats,” another Twitter user wrote.

In his statement this week, Biden said: “President Trump just tossed a stick of dynamite into a tinderbox, and he owes the American people an explanation of the strategy and plan to keep safe our troops and embassy personnel, our people and our interests, both here at home and abroad, and our partners throughout the region and beyond.”
