A precious item was reportedly swiped from a California couple’s residence over the weekend – their baby daughter’s ashes.

Kelly and Elliot Smith had other items taken from their home as well after the break-in on Sunday, but their primary concern is the box that holds their daughter’s remains, Kelly told Fox 40.

“We don’t care about any of that,” Kelly said. “We just want our daughter back.”

The ashes are “all I have” of the baby girl named Enola who was born prematurely, Kelly told Fox 40.

“She was five months early and she was passed, deceased,” she said.

The Smiths – who have each served overseas – reportedly realized what happened after returning from a trip and have since been trying to recover the significant item.

Fox News legal analyst and commentator Gregg Jarrett told “The Todd Starnes Show” Wednesday that Democrats should not try to impeach President Trump after the release of the Mueller report because “it is a poison for them.”

ILHAN OMAR CLAIMS US FORCES KILLED ‘THOUSANDS’ OF SOMALIS DURING ‘BLACK HAWK DOWN’ MISSION, RESURFACED TWEET SHOWS

Portraying himself as unjustly persecuted by the special counsel’s probe, Trump said Wednesday that his administration would refuse to cooperate with any further congressional investigations.

“I thought after two years we’d be finished with it. No, now the House goes and starts subpoenaing,” Trump told reporters on the White House lawn, claiming the probes have been commissioned by Democrats solely for political advantage.

“Look, these aren’t, like, impartial people,” the president said. “The Democrats are trying to win 2020.”

“The only way they can luck out is by constantly going after me on nonsense,” Trump added. “But they should be really focused on legislation.”

Jarrett, who formerly worked as a defense attorney and adjunct law professor, agreed with the president, telling Starnes that what Democrats do next “remains to be seen. You know, there are a hardcore group of people, of Trump haters.”

Washington has spent a week sifting through the aftermath of Mueller’s report, which did not find a criminal conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia to help the president win the 2016 election but reached no conclusion on whether he obstructed justice. Attorney General William Barr later said that he and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein determined that Mueller did not establish sufficient evidence that Trump committed obstruction.

Trump has at times railed against Mueller’s report, even resorting to public profanity in dismissing it, but has also embraced it, claiming exoneration and painting any other attempt as partisan overreach.

Meanwhile, Democrats have debated whether to pursue impeachment, a course that Speaker Nancy Pelosi has counseled against. But her party’s lawmakers have already signaled they will vote to hold reluctant witnesses in contempt of Congress and are preparing to eventually go to court to force testimony and cooperation. Democrats also argue that by refusing to cooperate with Congress, Trump is obstructing additional investigations.

Jarrett said that hardcore liberal Trump haters aren’t that much of a threat.

“I’m not sure the numbers are there [for impeachment],” he said. “And look, Nancy Pelosi well knows the repercussions of bringing an impeachment proceeding against the president.”

CNN’s cueball of concern, Brian Stelter, slammed Donald Trump for skipping this year’s White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner.

Stelter said: “In the past presidents have always shown up – even if they were angry at the press at any given time. And importantly, it’s useful for White House aides to schmooze with reporters. It’s helpful for us to get to know our sources. There’s some value in these sorts of festive events. … Look, it’s yet another example of what we’re seeing – this administration’s attack against the media. It takes many forms.”

So now skipping a dinner is an attack on the media?

CNN’S BRIAN STELTER: TRUMP ADMIN SKIPPING WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENTS’ DINNER IS ‘ATTACK’ AGAINST MEDIA

Brian’s really taking this “attack on the press” schtick to crazy heights. And no offense – but maybe skipping a meal now and then might not be a bad thing for some in the press. I include myself.

And as for schmoozing being useful? No. For us this dinner is just an orgy of self- congratulation, with sweaty lemmings complimenting their shared opinions, while peering over their shoulders to see what third-tier celebrity might stumble into the stinky overcrowded mess hall. Trust me: the halitosis is so thick you could cut it with a cake knife.

Of course, some will say Trump’s a coward for avoiding this clown show. That’s not cowardice. It’s common sense.

Why go to a place where the entire theme will be “orange man bad,” featuring the same moronic platitudes expressed by the same lunatics who’ve never offered a thought that might offend their own tight circle?

Here’s a thought: why not hire a host who doesn’t parrot the predictable jokes?

Imagine a Jordan Peterson. Joe Rogan. Dave Rubin. That’s the real cowardice: being afraid to challenge the media mob orthodoxy.

But Greg, it’s for charity! True.

But by skipping the dinner, Trump has stripped away the novelty that turned the original charity event into a thirst-fest for spotlight-chasing lollipops. He made it great again.  It’s about journalism. No wonder they’re miserable.

Unearthed video footage showed 2020 hopeful Bernie Sanders recalling his excitement surrounding the Cuban revolution in the 1950s.

“I remember, for some reason or another, being very excited when [former Cuban dictator] Fidel Castro made the revolution in Cuba,” he said, while speaking at the University of Vermont in 1986.

“I was a kid … and it just seemed right and appropriate that poor people were rising up against rather ugly rich people.”

During that speech, Sanders said he almost had to “puke” when he saw former President John F. Kennedy push his opponent at the time, former President Richard Nixon, to be tougher on Cuba. “For the first time in my adult life, what I was seeing is the Democrats and Republicans … clearly that there really wasn’t a whole lot of difference between the two,” he said.

CHER QUESTIONS BERNIE SANDERS FOR SAYING BOSTON BOMBER DESERVES RIGHT TO VOTE

The video, which surfaced in February, was just the latest in a series that showed Sanders, I-Vt., a self-described “democratic socialist,” praising socialist societies.

Sanders’ other comments have included praising bread lines and Soviet public transportation; defending Castro as someone in Cuba who “he educated their kids, gave their kids health care, totally transformed the society”; and mocking criticism of the Marxist Sandinista regime in Nicaragua.

“It’s funny, sometimes American journalists talk about how bad a country is because people are lining up for food. That’s a good thing,” he said in an old video clip.

“In other countries, people don’t line up for food, rich people get the food and poor people starve to death.”

Sanders has taken the lead among most 2020 hopefuls — often trailing only former Vice President Joe Biden in polls — and became somewhat of an icon for the progressive insurgency within the Democrats.

In 2016, he was able to push a number of big-government policies while placing second in the battle for the presidential nomination. Those policies included free college tuition and a single-payer health care system, ideas that many critics have associated with socialist governments.

A former State Department employee admitted Wednesday to misleading investigators about accepting thousands of dollars in gifts and benefits from Chinese intelligence agents in exchange for information.

Candace Marie Claiborne, 63, pleaded guilty in federal court in Washington to a charge of conspiracy to defraud the United States. The charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison.

PUB APOLOGIZES, REMOVES CONTROVERSIAL PHOTO OF JESUS AFTER EXTREME BACKLASH: ‘ABSOLUTELY DISGRACEFUL!’

“Candace Marie Claiborne traded her integrity and non-public information of the United States government in exchange for cash and other gifts from foreign agents she knew worked for the Chinese intelligence service,” Assistant Attorney General for National Security John Demers said in a statement. “She withheld information and lied repeatedly about these contacts.”

Claiborne, who held a top-secret security clearance, was arrested in March 2017. She started working at the State Department as an office management specialist in 1999 and served in multiple overseas postings including Baghdad and Khartoum, Sudan, as well as Beijing and Shanghai.

Prosecutors said that over a five-year period, Claiborne received “Chinese New Year’s gifts, international travel and vacations, tuition at a Chinese fashion school, a fully furnished apartment, a monthly stipend and numerous cash payments.”

In exchange, the government said, Claiborne “provided copies of internal documents from the State Department on topics ranging from U.S. economic strategies to visits by dignitaries between the two countries.”

“Candace Claiborne broke the public trust when she accepted gifts and money from foreign officials, and then lied about it to State Department background investigators,” U.S. Attorney Jessie Liu said in a statement. “The United States will continue to seek to hold accountable those who abuse their positions of trust.”

Claiborne is scheduled to be sentenced July 9.

A semi-truck driving through Michigan on Wednesday plowed into a home, leaving it “severely damaged,” officials said.

The crash happened around 4 p.m. when the semi-truck was driving westbound on 26 Mile Road, the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Witnesses to the incident told authorities that “the truck blew a tire,” prompting it to lose control and veer into the road’s opposite lane, where it crashed into an F-250 pick-up truck, officials said.

“The tractor trailer continued on traveling through a residence and coming to a rest in the Meade Cemetery,” the sheriff’s office said.

No one was inside the residence at the time of the incident, the homeowner told authorities, according to the news release.

Aerial video showed responders on scene and debris strewn around what remained of the home. Numerous headstones from the cemetery were also damaged from the crash, officials said.

None of the parties involved sustained major injuries, officials said.

“A van traveling behind the F-250 did have to brake to avoid the crash and in turn hit a mailbox,” the sheriff’s department said.

Justin Bieber is firing back at a TV host who insulted his Coachella performance with Ariana Grande on Sunday.

Morgan Stewart, host of E!’s “Nightly Pop,” reportedly accused the 25-year-old singer of lip-synching “Sorry” on Sunday during his first performance in 2 years.

HAILEY BALDWIN FIRES BACK AT CRITICS: ‘AM I NOT ALLOWED TO BE GRATEFUL?’

“I did not realize it was gonna be that bad,” Stewart said, according to Us Weekly.

Bieber fired back at the host on social media Wednesday in a series of tweets, defending the appearance of his lip-synching and reprimanding her for “tearing people down.”

In his first tweet, Bieber accused her of being a bully, saying: “@Morgan_Stewart just saw a video of you ripping me to shreds saying I was lip-syncing. They played the song and i just sang overtop of it.. regardless why spend your time tearing people down. It’s People like you that are bullies at school that are making kids suicidal.”

He then continued to challenge her comments, suggesting her time would be better served “building people up.” He also reminded her it was his first performance in 2 years and that he “sang to backtrack like most cameos do.”

“And rather than try and make people feel accepted and loved you find things to pick apart like the world isn’t full of that already.. we can find something negative to say about anything or anyone,” he added in the thread.

The “Baby” singer concluded: “When are we gonna be the kind of people that find joy in adding value to one another and not tearing each other apart.”

Fox News requests for comment from E! News and Stewart were not immediately returned.

“I haven’t been on stage in like two years. I came out here I had no idea I was going to be on stage tonight,” Bieber told the Coachella crowd. “So anyways this is my first time on stage in two years. I had to get my groove back, my swag back, you know what I’m saying? So, thank you so much, Coachella. Thank you so much, Ariana Grande. We love you so much, man. Thank you so much.”

Bieber last took the stage in July 2017 for his “Purpose” world tour, but he abruptly canceled the final 14 shows “after careful consideration.” He told Vogue in February that he decided to stop touring because he got “really depressed.”

President Trump’s pick for the Federal Reserve board, ex-CNN contributor Stephen Moore, blasted the reporting about him from his former employer and other outlets Wednesday, accusing them of “pulling a Kavanaugh” against him.

During an interview on WZFG radio, Moore, previously a Fox News contributor, was asked about CNN’s KFILE reporting on various columns he had written from 2000-2003 in which he apparently mocked women’s involvement in professional sports.

“I was so honored when I got the call from Donald Trump but you know, all it has been since then is one personal assault after another, a kind of character assassination that has nothing to do with economics,” Moore said. “You know, my divorce 10 years ago, or something I wrote 25 years ago. They have six full-time investigative reporters looking into me at The Washington Post and the New York Times, and CNN.”

“I kind of wear it as a badge of honor, that they’re so afraid of me, that they want all these people looking into my past because they’re worried that I’m going to prevail here,” he continued. “They have not attacked me on my economic ideas.”

LARRY KUDLOW: ECONOMY HAS BEEN ‘BOOMING’

Moore agreed with the radio host that the coverage of him this week has been “National Enquirer stuff” and went even further: “They’re pulling a Kavanaugh against me.”

That was in reference to the hostile coverage Brett Kavanaugh, then a Supreme Court nominee, received during his confirmation process last year.

CNN KFILE senior editor Andrew Kaczynski responded to Moore’s attack, saying, “I don’t even know what ‘pulling a Kavanaugh’ means.”

“Look, when you’re a nominee or pick for a public administration, your record is going to get scrutinized. Things that you say, things that you did–those are going to be reported on,” Kaczynski said on CNN. “I know this morning he was referring to this as a smear campaign, covering comments he made about women, and covering things that he said in columns. That is not a smear campaign. That is reporting on his record. So, it’s a little odd that he finds just commenting things that he has done and said to be such a problem for him.”

GOP strategist Colin Reed on Biden’s expected 2020 announcement: ‘The gloves will come off right away’

GOP strategist Colin Reed said Wednesday he thinks “the gloves will come off right away” if former Vice President Joe Biden joins the crowded 2020 field of Democrats as expected.

“I think Joe Biden has made a connection with voters,” Democratic strategist Michael Meehan, the president and CEO of Squared Communications, responded on “The Daily Briefing with Dana Perino” Wednesday.

“This will be his third time running and eight years as serving as vice president. But, he has the ability in the small caucus states of Iowa and New Hampshire, where you go into people’s living rooms in the very beginning to tell a story about his life and his faith and his vision for what government should be. And, any one of his opponents would be wrong to think that he’s not prepared to go into those small parts of those small states early on and show the kind of strength he has.”

BIDEN CAMPAIGN LAUNCH PUSHED TO THURSDAY

Meehan added, “He also has the advantage of name I.D. A third of the Democratic primary with 21 candidates, on the way to 30, is a huge advantage for him.”

Biden’s announcement would end months of speculation. Despite the recent #MeToo controversy complicating his would-be campaign, the former vice president has remained at the top of most public opinion polls.

Biden’s potential campaign hit a bump recently after several women publicly accused him of touching them inappropriately at events.

When asked how long it would be before the other Democrats start attacking Biden, Reed, who managed Scott Brown’s U.S. Senate campaign in New Hampshire in 2014, said he thought it would happen immediately, adding, “if they are smart, maybe they will do it in an understated way.”

With Biden, 76, expected to announce his candidacy on Thursday, The Wall Street Journal reported he likely will rely heavily on big donors to get his campaign up and running.

Meehan said, “I think money’s important if you don’t have the kind of name I.D. that Joe Biden has. And so, it is a good measure for some of these candidates, the senators or the congressman who haven’t run on a national ticket before.”

He added, “The money is a credible threshold but I don’t think it’s such a positive because what happens in a presidential (election) is that people get their information about these candidates from shows like yours and across the board. And, it’s not like a state senate race or governor’s race where people don’t have any name I.D. and you have to be able to pay these ads to get your name out there.”

When asked if he thought Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders would go after Biden right away, Reed said, “I don’t think he goes after him right away because he’s the frontrunner, and in politics, you always punch up, not down.”

A senior staff member for former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was sentenced Wednesday to 13 months in prison for her role in the “Bridgegate” scandal.

As the New Jersey District Attorney’s office had alleged, Bridget Anne Kelly, 46, was serving as the Republican governor’s deputy chief of staff when she “manufactured traffic problems” near the George Washington Bridge in Fort Lee in 2013 to “punish” Mayor Mark Sokolich for not endorsing Christie during his bid for reelection.

Kelly was convicted in November 2016 on seven counts including conspiring to misuse, and actually misusing, property of an organization receiving federal benefits and conspiring to commit, and actually committing, wire fraud.

She initially was sentenced to 18 months in prison but later appealed, and in November 2017, only five of the seven convictions were upheld. On Wednesday she was re-sentenced to 13 months in prison.

As court documents claimed, after learning that Sokolich would not be backing Christie, Kelly conspired with former Deputy Executive Director of the Port Authority William E. Baroni and David Wildstein, the former director of Interstate Capital Projects at the Port Authority, to trigger traffic congestion on the George Washington bridge and throughout the surrounding community on what was the first day of the school year, to punish the mayor.

The trio, all of whom have been convicted and sentenced, had agreed to reduce lanes and toll booths without giving notice to Sokolich’s office and ignored contact with him during the manufactured traffic jam from Sept. 9 to Sept. 13, 2013, investigators said.

“The three conspirators concocted and promoted a sham story that the lane reductions were for a traffic study. They created and advanced this cover story so they could use Port Authority property, including the time and services of unwitting Port Authority personnel and other resources, to implement the lane and toll booth reductions and conceal their true punitive purpose,” the DA’s office said in a press release.

Kelly’s attorney, Michael Critchley, asked the court to consider the emotional and psychological effects the trial had on Kelly and her family, saying that that amounted to punishment. “The shrapnel of Bridgegate that affects the Kelly family is embedded. It’s gonna be there forever,” he said.

He also questioned why Christie, Wildstein and two other former officials, whose names came up during the trial but who went unindicted, seemed to face no punishment.

Baroni previously was sentenced to 18 months in prison and Wildstein was sentenced to three years probation.
