Meghan Markle, Prince Harry ‘eager’ to use ‘Sussex Royal’ brand, but the queen ‘had other plans’: source

Meghan Markle and her husband Prince Harry will need to drop their “Sussex Royal” label if they want to be truly financially independent.

It is believed Queen Elizabeth II and other senior officials have agreed it is no longer tenable for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to keep the word “royal” in their branding, U.K.’s Daily Mail reported on Wednesday.

According to the outlet, the former American actress and the British prince have spent “thousands of pounds” on a new Sussex Royal website and have registered the label as a global trademark for a range of items, “including clothing, stationery, books and teaching materials.” The couple has also taken steps to set up their own charitable organization named Sussex Royal, The Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

However, the pair will reportedly need to “re-brand.”

“After weeks of talks, the queen and senior officials are believed to have told the couple the term ‘royal’ is inconsistent with their ‘branding,’ U.K.-based media correspondent Neil Sean told Fox News on Wednesday.

ROYAL FAMILY POSTS PRINCE ANDREW BIRTHDAY TRIBUTE, SENDS FANS IN UPROAR FOR ‘TONE DEAF’ MOVE

“This has not gone down well with the couple who truly thought they were fine with… re-branding themselves,” Sean continued. “Now the queen has other plans, too, which will make the ongoing push to be [independent] harder than they first thought.”

According to Sean, a palace source told him: “They have not banked on this move at all from the queen. What she has effectively done is close down any type of royal branding. This will create problems, particularly in the U.S. where the term ‘royal’ means so much in terms of branding.”

“Now the bigger problem lies in how they plan to market themselves,” the source also alleged. “Without the royal label attached, they don’t look as lucrative to bigger brands with mega-money. And don’t forget, they can’t speak about their lives and times within the royal household. So what does that leave them to talk about which is worth any value?”

Despite the setback, another palace source did tell Sean the reigning monarch, 93, is eager to solve the matters swiftly without any “legal wrangling.”

“The queen herself does not enjoy legal battles and always believed things like this should be resolved without the court being involved,” the source alleged.

“Maybe they now both need to take stock as to what they can sell to the world next without a royal endorsement” Sean reflected on Markle, 38, and Harry, 35. “But one thing remains — don’t mess with the queen!”

A royal source also told People magazine on Wednesday the couple is currently in “ongoing discussions” about using the word “royal” as part of their branding.

“As the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are stepping back as senior members of the royal family and will work towards financial independence, use of the word ‘royal,’ in this context needed to be reviewed,” the source told the outlet. “Discussions are still ongoing.”

“As part of the process to transition the Duke and Duchess of Sussex into their new chapter, planning has been well underway around the launch of their new nonprofit organization,” the source added. “Details will be shared in due course.”

On Jan. 8 Markle and Harry announced they will take “a step back” as senior members of the royal family and instead work independently, splitting their time between the United Kingdon and North America.

Trump takes aim at Dem senator over Iran meeting, suggests he should be prosecuted

President Trump lashed out Wednesday at Sen. Chris Murphy for meeting with Iran’s foreign minister and accused the Democratic senator of “illegally” violating the Logan Act.

The Logan Act, enacted in 1799, bars Americans from conducting rogue negotiations with foreign governments in disputes with the U.S.

SENATE DEMOCRAT MURPHY ACKNOWLEDGES MEETING WITH IRAN’S FOREIGN MINISTER

No one has ever been successfully prosecuted under this obscure federal law, but some critics suggested in 2017 that Trump’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn ran afoul of the law in his dealings with Russia before Trump took office. Murphy himself called for investigations at the time. Trump on Wednesday argued the Connecticut senator is now the one in breach of that law, suggesting he face consequences.

“Kerry & Murphy illegally violated the Logan Act,” Trump tweeted Wednesday, in reference to former Secretary of State John Kerry as well. “This is why Iran is not making a deal. Must be dealt with strongly!”

Murphy met with Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif while at the Munich Security conference declaring, “if Trump isn’t going to talk to Iran, then someone should.”

Once hearing the news of Murphy’s visit, Trump previewed his line of attack to reporters.

“I saw that Senator Murphy met with the Iranians, is that a fact?” Trump said Tuesday before boarding Air Force One.  “I just saw that on the way over. Is there anything I should know? Because that sounds like, to me, a violation of the Logan Act.”

Trump has previously accused Kerry of meeting the Iranians and trying to undermine his foreign policy.

A spokesperson for Kerry responded Wednesday: “We’ve addressed this many times before. The president is still tweeting, is still wrong, and is still trying to distract from his diplomatic malpractice on Iran.”

Flynn wasn’t prosecuted for Logan Act violations, but in 2017 he pleaded guilty to making false statements to the FBI in relation to the Russia probe.

What is Eid Al-Fitr?

Eid Al-Fitr is a holiday in Islam that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan when devout Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset.

The “Festival of Breaking the Fast” is typically celebrated for three days, but the Muslim world has been split on the start of Eid, as it’s based on the new moon.

In the U.S., Eid starts on May 24, 2020.

Muslim observers mark it in different ways around the world with prayers, social gatherings, festive meals, charity and gift-giving.

The common greeting is “Eid Mubarak,” which means “Have a blessed Eid.”

Eid Al-Fitr also is known as the lesser Eid celebration compared to the Eid Al-Adha, the “Feast of the Sacrifice,” or “Greater Eid,” which marks the sacrifice of Abraham.

Klobuchar taking heat from Dems for past support of Trump nominees

As she rises in national polls, Democratic presidential candidate Amy Klobuchar is taking heat from critics inside her party over her past support of President Trump’s cabinet nominees and judges.

Sen. Klobuchar, D-Minn., has a history of voting for some of the president’s nominees for cabinet positions.

PRO-WARREN GROUP SLAMS KLOBUCHAR AS ‘COMPLETELY UNPREPARED’

In 2017, Klobuchar voted for John Kelly’s confirmation to Homeland Security secretary; Wilbur Ross as Commerce secretary; Mike Pompeo as CIA director, and later as secretary of State; Nikki Haley as U.N. ambassador; Elaine Chao as Transportation secretary; David Shulkin as secretary of Veterans’ Affairs; Linda McMahon as Small Business Administrator; Dan Coats as director of National Intelligence; Robert Lighthizer as U.S. trade representative; Sonny Perdue to be secretary of Agriculture, and more.

None of the other senators who are currently running for president – Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., or Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. – or have dropped out the race – Cory Booker, D-N.J., Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., or Kamala Harris, D-Calif. – voted in favor of those nominees.

In 2018, Klobuchar voted for Kevin McAleenan to serve as commissioner of Customs and Border Protection (CBP). McAleenan later served as acting Homeland Security secretary.

Last week at a town hall in Nevada, former South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg – one of Klobuchar’s rivals – took a veiled swipe at Klobuchar for voting to confirm McAleenan after she has repeatedly downplayed his political experience.

IN UNEARTHED 2006 CLIP, KLOBUCHAR CALLED FOR FENCE, ‘ORDER’ AT THE BORDER

“You know, I’ve heard some people say that, you know, my experience is not relevant because you have to have Washington experience in order to become a president,” Buttigieg said. “But some of those same voices are among those who voted to confirm Kevin McAleenan as the CBP head, who presided over, for example, the horrifying conditions that children were kept in, and we have to look at what kind of judgment that experience has brought.”

Klobuchar has, in general, taken a more moderate stance on border security compared with some of her left-wing primary rivals. In July, she told ABC’s “This Week” that she didn’t agree with candidates like Warren, who called for the decriminalization of illegal border crossings. She also, in 2018, came out in favor of negotiating with Trump for wall funding as part of a broader immigration reform deal and to avoid a government shutdown.

The Klobuchar campaign, though, told Fox News that she does oppose the wall at the southern border.

“Sen. Klobuchar strongly opposes President Trump’s border wall as well as diverting military funds for its construction,” a campaign spokesperson said. “She supports paying for border security as part of comprehensive immigration reform and she believes that comprehensive reforms and implementing a policy to allow asylum seekers from the Northern Triangle countries to seek asylum in their home countries could result in a decrease in some of the funding necessary for the border.”

AMY KLOBUCHAR: 5 THINGS TO KNOW

Meanwhile, over the course of the 2017-2018 congressional session, Klobuchar also voted to confirm nearly two-thirds of judges nominated by President Trump – far more than any other Senate Democrat who was or still is running for the White House – decisions that a Warren-affiliated group has taken issue with in recent days.

“Klobuchar has faced no scrutiny this year. New Hampshire voters didn’t know that Klobuchar voted to confirm two-thirds of Trump judges to lifetime appointments – and has one of the most conservative records of any Democrat,” the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, a major supporter of Warren’s presidential campaign, said in a statement this week.

Klobuchar did, however, receive plenty of attention for her tough questioning of then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, who she did not vote to confirm.

Klobuchar outperformed Warren in New Hampshire’s first-in-the-nation primary last week, making a strong third-place finish. Since then, Klobuchar has seen an infusion of campaign cash.

Recent polls in Nevada, which will have its caucuses Saturday, suggest Warren, Klobuchar, Buttigieg and billionaire Tom Steyer are all competing for third place, behind Sanders and former Vice President Joe Biden.

Fox News reached out to the Klobuchar campaign for comment on the jabs from the PCCC but has not yet received a response.

Fox News’ Paul Steinhauser and Adam Shaw contributed to this report.

Drug kingpin Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman appears in rare prison video after 2016 arrest

Meet the man formerly known as prisoner “3870” who just happened to be among the most powerful drug lords in Mexico.

A video has emerged purportedly showing Mexican drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman being booked into a detention center in 2016.

The footage, first obtained by the news website Latinus, shows Guzman answering a series of questions at the Altiplano prison, a maximum security facility in Mexico.

He states that his alias is “El Chapo,” his occupation is a “farmer,” and when asked for his wife’s name, responds: “The one I’m married to is Alejandrina Salazar, but the one I live with is Emma Coronel,” according to Reuters.

Guzman is shown signing paperwork while clad in a prison jumpsuit that has the number “3870” emblazoned on it. He sits down with his hands behind his back so a prison worker can take a booking photo.

Images the website obtained also depict Guzman getting a haircut and mustache trim. He is then searched before being led into his cell.

Colorado priest accused of mismanaging $2M at Catholic school, taking $250G from widowed mother’s tuition fund

An assistant priest in Colorado is accused of mismanaging more the $2 million when he ran a Catholic school in Denver, including draining $250,000 from a fund meant to help a widowed mother pay tuition for her four children after her husband died suddenly of cancer.

The Rev. Andrew Kemberling caused St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Parish and School “to accrue over 2 million dollars in losses” within two years and then tried to cover those losses by pulling money from restricted funds, Denver7 reported, citing a lawsuit filed Tuesday. The claims do not accuse him of fraud or diverting funds for personal use, Denver’s KCNC-TV reported.

GEORGE ZIMMERMAN SUES WARREN, BUTTIGIEG FOR $265M, ACCUSES THEM OF ATTEMPTING TO GARNER BLACK VOTES BY DEFAMING HIM

Kemberling, a pastor at the time, allegedly pulled nearly $100,000 from a Teachers’ Endowment Fund so the school could make payroll. He also pulled $250,000 from a fund reserved to helping a teacher, who was also a parent at the school, pay for her four children’s tuition after her husband died of cancer in 2011, the lawsuit stated.

David Wolf, one of the plaintiffs named in the suit, claims he deposited $223,000 to that account. The fund had a $12,500 balance after Kemberling gained access, the lawsuit stated. It’s unclear what Wolf’s ties are to the school and parish.

INMATE’S UNUSUAL GROUP OF SUPPORTERS SEEKS TO STOP EXECUTION

The Archdiocese of Denver is also named as a defendant in the case.

“While we understand that parishioners have had concerns that need to be addressed, we find the allegations in the lawsuit to be overstated and misleading. We are confident that the results of the independent audit will reveal the truth,” the Archdiocese of Denver said in the statement Tuesday, according to Denver7.

“Based on all of the information provided by the parish and available to the Archdiocese, we also have no reason to believe that the former pastor, Fr. Kemberling, who is accused of mismanagement in the lawsuit, took any money for personal gain.”

Bloomberg camp slams Sanders aide after claiming history of heart attacks: ‘Completely false’

Michael Bloomberg‘s campaign issued a sharp denial after Bernie Sanders‘ national press secretary Briahna Joy Gray claimed on CNN Wednesday that the former New York City mayor has a history of heart attacks.

Responding to questions about the Vermont senator’s refusal to release medical records after suffering a heart attack in 2019, Gray claimed that Bloomberg “has suffered heart attacks in the past” and argued no one is concerned about his medical records.

SANDERS TAKES DOUBLE-DIGIT LEAD IN NEW NATIONAL POLL, AS BIDEN CRUMBLES AND BLOOMBERG RISES

“It’s completely false,” Bloomberg campaign manager Kevin Sheekey said in a statement.

Sheekey noted that Bloomberg did have two coronary stents put in after a stress test in 2000, and that this had previously been made public — but he denied any heart attacks.

“The Bloomberg 2020 campaign released more information about his outstanding health soon after he entered the race,” Sheekey added. “Here’s what we know about Sen. Sanders: In October 2019, he had a medical incident in Las Vegas. He didn’t tell the public for days and the full details have never been released.”

In December 2019, Bloomberg’s doctor said in a letter that since having the stents placed, Bloomberg has had annual cardiac stress testing, and that he is in “outstanding health.” Bloomberg did have atrial fibrillation in 2018, and since then he has taken a blood thinner. The doctor said there are “no medical concerns” that would keep Bloomberg from serving as president.

“Facts matter,” Sheekey said. “This isn’t the way to defeat Donald Trump in November.

The two candidates and their campaigns have been taking shots at each other in recent days. Sanders has accused the billionaire Bloomberg of trying to buy the election while claiming that he “will not create the kind of excitement and energy we need to defeat Donald Trump.”

Bloomberg shot back, tweeting a video featuring aggressive and sometimes threatening tweets, texts and memes supposedly from Sanders supporters.

The incredible moment an orchestra violinist played her instrument while surgeons operated on her brain was captured on video and has quickly gone viral.

Dagmar Turner, 53, underwent surgery to remove an aggressive brain tumor on Jan. 31 at King’s College Hospital in London, according to a press release.

HOW DANGEROUS IS CORONAVIRUS?

The tumor was located in the right frontal lobe, which controls movement in her left hand. Turner’s consultant neurosurgeon, Professor Keyoumars Ashkan, is a pianist and also holds a degree in music, according to the hospital’s press release. Ashkan knew how important preserving his patient’s ability to play the violin was. He devised a plan that would bring her out of anesthesia during surgery to play the instrument in order to ensure that no damage was done to the frontal lobe.

“The violin is my passion; I’ve been playing since I was 10 years old,” Turner said in the press release. “The thought of losing my ability to play was heartbreaking, but being a musician himself, Prof. Ashkan understood my concerns. He and the team at King’s went out of their way to plan the operation – from mapping my brain to planning the position I needed to be in to play.”

Ashkan explained that the hospital typically will have brain surgery patients perform language tests, but Turner is his first patient to have ever played an instrument during an operation. While the team performed a craniotomy, Turner was carefully brought out from under anesthesia and instructed to play the instrument while the tumor was removed.

“We knew how important the violin is to Dagmar so it was vital that we preserved function in the delicate areas of her brain that allowed her to play,” Ashkan said in the press release. “We managed to remove over 90 percent of the tumor, including all the areas suspicious of aggressive activity while retaining full function in her left hand.”

Turner, who was initially diagnosed with a grade 2 glioma in 2013 after suffering a seizure, had already undergone radiation in hopes of controlling the tumor, but it recently became more aggressive. Just three days after the operation, Turner was able to go home to her husband and teen son.

“Thanks to [Ashkan and his team] I’m hoping to be back with my orchestra very soon,” Turner said.

Severe thunderstorm watch vs. warning: Here’s the difference

When thunderstorms strike during warmer times of the year, some of those storms may be powerful enough to warrant a “severe thunderstorm warning.”

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Severe Storms Laboratory defines a severe thunderstorm as a storm that contains one or more of the following: hail 1 inch or greater, winds gusting in excess of 57.5 mph, or a tornado.

In general, thunderstorms produce lightning and tornadoes in addition to heavy rain that can cause flash flooding.

LIGHTNING SAFETY: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

So, what’s the difference between a severe thunderstorm watch and a warning?

According to the National Weather Service, a watch is issued when conditions exist for severe thunderstorms.

“Stay informed and be ready to act if a severe thunderstorm warning is issued,” according to the Weather Service. “The watch area is typically large, covering numerous counties or even states.”

Forecasters urged people to “be prepared” for changing conditions in a watch area.

When trained weather spotters or radar indicate that severe thunderstorm conditions may exist, forecasters then issue a “severe thunderstorm warning.”

“Warnings indicate imminent danger to life and property,” according to the NWS. “Take shelter in a substantial building.”

While watches may cover wide areas, warnings focus on a smaller area that includes cities or small counties threatened by large hail or damaging winds.

According to the NSSL, thunderstorms are most likely in the spring and summer months, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours, but they can occur year-round and at all hours.

“Along the Gulf Coast and across the southeastern and western states, most thunderstorms occur during the afternoon,” the agency states. “Thunderstorms frequently occur in the late afternoon and at night in the Plains states.”
