Design studio releasing Ocasio-Cortez action figure

It’s official: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., is a veritable icon — at least for some toy fanatics.

The freshman congresswoman is getting her very own action figure as part of a series of political toys created by a Brooklyn-based design company.

The company, FCTRY, showcased its “AOC” doll design through an online fundraising site, asking supporters to help finance its product along with other political action figures. The fundraiser started on Tuesday but has already surpassed its goal of $15,000, which it hoped to achieve by mid-November.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the campaign had nearly 800 backers and more than $20,000 in donations.

AOC GETS CHOKED UP AT CLIMATE FORUM: ‘MY DREAMS OF MOTHERHOOD ARE NOW BITTERSWEET’

“We’re toymakers, not prophets, so take what we say with a grain of salt,” the company said. “But we’ve got a pretty good track record of spotting real-life heroes in the making and from where we sit, AOC has the makings of a legend. So we’re doing what we do best and turning her into an action figure.”

More from Media

A promotional video debuts the “AOC” toy with a series of cheers describing her as a model feminist, activist and Democrat. “Tell me what a role model looks like. This is what a role model looks like,” voices on the video say in a call-and-response fashion typical of street protests.

FCTRY also displays infographics detailing the congresswoman’s rise to prominence and touting her activism.

“Just two years ago, AOC was an anonymous 20-something waiting tables and tending bars in New York City, and now she is literally one of the most influential politicians in the United States. Things like this don’t happen in real life, right?” the company asked.

“But it is happening and we are all witnesses. What makes it even crazier is that she’s just getting started. Like if this were a trilogy, we’re probably only about 45 minutes into part one — aka the origin story — so let’s recap.”

OCASIO-CORTEZ DEFENDS TWEET PROMOTING IDEA OF ‘PRISON ABOLITION,’ PUSHES ‘JUST ALTERNATIVES TO INCARCERATION’

The page delves into a timeline starting with Ocasio-Cortez’s birthday in 1989 and her placing second at a science fair. When it reaches her college years, the graphic highlights how she participated in a music video — one that led to criticism from some conservatives at the time it resurfaced.

The promotional video also praises AOC for supporting a climate protest outside of then-House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s office in November of 2018. Since becoming House speaker, Pelosi, D-Calif., has clashed with the congresswoman — suggesting her social media following was relatively insignificant when compared with the amount of power she and other progressives had in Congress.

But FCTRY touted her Twitter following — 5.5. million followers — along with her status as the youngest congresswoman ever elected.

FCTRY offers packages of action figures including Ocasio-Cortez, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif.

The “collector set” includes those three in addition to Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., former President Barack Obama, and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. If buyers just want Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders, they can purchase the “Call them socialists” package.

“The figures are one part product and one part social commentary, exploring who we idolize in contemporary culture and how we do it,” the company said of the product line.

Alaska woman gets 60 years for setting couch ablaze with boyfriend on it

An Alaska woman who poured gasoline on a couch where her boyfriend lay and set it on fire before shutting the door and fleeing the apartment will spend 60 years behind bars for first-degree murder.

Gina Virgilio, 32, sat with her face buried in her hands as Anchorage Superior Court Judge Michael Wolverton announced the sentence for the 2012 death of Michael Gonzalez.

Before sentencing, Virgilio indicated to the judge that mental illness drove her to this act.

“I hate me for what I did. I can never bring him back,” Virgilio said.

Gonzalez family members gave emotional victim impact statements to the court on Oct. 4. The rest of the sentencing phase was continued to Monday.

Virgilio entered a plea deal earlier this year, and the state agreed to a sentence of 30 to 70 years. But during sentencing Monday, the state pushed for 70 years, noting circumstances of the crime warranted the higher end.

Speaking on her behalf Monday, Virgilio’s brother Reginald Carney, said she began to change after she started experimenting with drugs – everything from Oxycontin and marijuana to cocaine – at about age 20. She later graduated to intravenous meth use.

ARKANSAS WOMAN CLAIMS BROTHER FED HER ‘METH SANDWICH’

“Her brain was fried from the meth,” said Virgilio’s public defender, Craig Howard.

She lost weight, kept a distance from loved ones and once tried to kill her child. She also became obsessed with fire, Howard said.

On the night of June 7, 2012, Virgilio and Gonzalez held a party for Gonzalez’s 24th birthday. While he passed out or fell asleep on the couch early the next morning, she found a gas can and walked a quarter-mile to the nearest gas station to fill it.

Virgilio walked back to the apartment and doused the couch, the carpet in front of it and the area in front of the apartment’s only doorway with gasoline while Gonzalez slept.

She lit mail on fire and tossed it inside. When she saw Gonzalez get up and yell “hot, hot” she shut the door and fled. He died from smoke inhalation and severe burns.

‘Facts of Life’ star Geri Jewell on where Geri Tyler would be in event of a reboot

There have been rumblings of a “Facts of Life” reboot in the works, but could it happen?

Geri Jewell, who rose to fame in the beloved series, recently spoke to Fox News and said the show “has surprises coming up,” but noted she couldn’t “say anything else.”

She also gave us a taste of what her character, Geri Tyler, would be up to today, which may or may be a bit of foreshadowing.

“She would be a nightclub owner,” Jewell told us while attending the Hollywood Museum Celebrates the 55th Anniversary of “Gilligan’s Island” event. “She got tired of doing standup comedy and she decided to run a nightclub and hire standup comics.”

Jewell, 63, adds that she’s beyond thrilled that people still love and appreciate the show today. “Oh gosh. The ’80s!” she exclaimed, with a proud grin, adding that “The Facts of Life” is “a cult show” and is still attracting new generations of fans on MeTV.

“The first episode that I ever did was the most special to me because it was so surreal.”

And though she’s gone on to do other work, like playing Rose on “The Young and the Restless” and Jewel in HBO’s edgy Western, “Deadwood,” it’s still the thing she’s most recognized for.

And I remember we were filming it a week before Christmas cause I had a Walkman and I was playing John Denver Christmas music on break. And the episode that I did aired on Christmas Eve, 1981,” she recalls.

The actress says there was so much love and support on the set and even though it was her first big project, everyone was eager to show her the ropes. And she definitely made some friends along the way.

North Dakota man, 68, charged with assaulting 9-year-old boy after being hit by snowball: report

A 68-year-old North Dakota man is accused of shouting profanities and throwing rocks at a group of children in retaliation for being hit with a snowball before pushing a 9-year-old boy into a truck and smashing his face into the ground, according to a report.

Douglas resident Gordon Van Hassel, 68, is charged with felony aggravated assault of a victim under the age of 12, the Grand Forks Herald reported Monday.

According to the charges, Van Hassel was walking his dog by a group of children having a snowball fight when he was apparently hit.

Van Hassel later claimed the kids were harassing him, so he chased them, catching the 9-year-old who he allegedly pushed to the ground and repeatedly kicked, KFYR-TV reported.

LeBron James ‘showed he sold his soul’ by slamming Daryl Morey for Hong Kong tweet, Miranda Devine says

New York Post columnist Miranda Devine said Tuesday that NBA star LeBron James has “shown that he has sold his soul for money” after James criticized Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey’s tweet supporting pro-democracy protests in Hong-Kong.

“He should’ve been big enough and strong enough to risk his Nike contract,” Devine told “The Daily Briefing with Dana Perino.”

James was skewered Monday night after he criticized Morey’s tweet as “misinformed”. He responded to backlash later in the evening, tweeting Morey’s message “could have waited a week.”

MIRANDA DEVINE SLAMS WASHINGTON POST COLUMNIST: ‘IF YOU’RE CONSERVATIVE, YOU’RE AUTOMATICALLY A RACIST’

“I’m not here to judge how the league handled the situation,” the 15-time All-Star told reporters in Los Angeles on Monday night. “I just think that, when you’re misinformed or you’re not educated about something — and I’m just talking about the tweet itself — you never know the ramifications that can happen. We all see what that did, not only did for our league but for all of us in America, for people in China as well. Sometimes you have to think through the things that you say that may cause harm not only for yourself but for the majority of people. I think that’s just a prime example of that.”

On “The Daily Briefing,” Devine listed some of the ways Chinese President Xi Jinping is causing harm to Hong Kong protestors as part of her critique of James’ comments.

MIRANDA DEVINE: ‘HILLBILLY ELEGY’ AUTHOR J.D. VANCE LATEST CONSERVATIVE TO BE SMEARED BY LEFTIST LIES

“A teenager has been shot in the chest. They are being tear-gassed. You just had President Xi say the other that there will be shattered bones. There will be broken bodies if this dissent continues against China and LeBron James is complaining about some inconvenience for a week?”

James, who’s considered one of the more outspoken athletes on social justice issues in a league that prides itself on being one of the most progressive in sports, was uncharacteristically deferential to NBA and Chinese leadership in his remarks about Morey’s tweet of the slogan “Fight for freedom. Stand with Hong Kong.”

“Kowtowing to China is the worst thing they [the NBA] possibly could’ve done. It’s incredibly weak of [NBA Comissioner] Adam Silver,” Devine said.

Prince Harry breaks down talking about anxieties of parenthood, Meghan Markle’s pregnancy

Prince Harry was overcome with emotion Tuesday while giving a speech at an event honoring sick children and their caregivers.

The Duke of Sussex attended the WellChild Awards in London with wife Meghan Markle. Prince Harry has been a patron of the event since 2007, but this is the first year he’s attending as a parent. The royal couple welcomed son Archie Harrison in May.

MEGHAN MARKLE APPLAUDS PRINCE HARRY FOR BEING THE ‘BEST DAD’

“Last year when my wife and I attended we knew we were expecting our first child — no one else did at the time, but we did — and I remember squeezing Meghan’s hand so tight during the awards…” he said before having to pause to collect himself.

“And now, as parents, being here and speaking to all of you pulls at my heartstrings in a way I could have never understood until I had a child of my own,” he added.

WellChild is a charity that supports children who are battling serious illnesses and their families who care for them.

Tuesday night’s winners included a 16-year-old boy who cares for his younger brother, a 12-year-old girl with cerebral palsy and a 6-year-old boy who was diagnosed with leukemia last year.

Eric Trump on Hunter Biden: ‘I’d be in jail right now for what he did’

Eric Trump, executive vice president of the Trump Organization and one of President Trump’s sons, said he’d likely be incarcerated if he behaved as Hunter Biden did while his father, former Vice President Joe Biden, was in office.

PROOF OF LINKS: PHOTOGRAPH SHOWS JOE, HUNTER BIDEN GOLFING WITH UKRAINE GAS EXEC

On Tuesday, Hunter Biden broke his silence in his first televised interview since his overseas business dealings came under scrutiny, maintaining he did nothing improper while he served on the board of a Ukrainian gas company. The 49-year-old did tell ABC’s “Good Morning America” that accepting the lucrative position was, in retrospect, “poor judgment.”

“What they were doing was incredibly unethical and quite frankly if I did that — if I were sitting on boards — I’d be in jail right now.  I’d be in jail right now for what he did,” Trump told Fox Nation’s David Webb on his show, “Reality Check with David Webb.”

“Look at a Ukrainian oil and gas company giving Hunter Biden $50,000 a month … $600,000 a year,” Trump continued. “The board members of Exxon Mobil, one of the largest oil companies in the world, get paid $300,000, and he’s getting paid $600,000 for a small oil and gas company out of Ukraine.  Give me a break.  It’s rampant corruption.”

Ahead of the Democratic debate in Ohio on Tuesday night, Trump observed that the ethical concerns facing former Vice President Biden are the direct result of the Democrat’s efforts to investigate his father and President Trump’s controversial call with the pesident of Ukraine.

“The irony of the whole thing is that this sham impeachment process — I actually call it a coup, it’s not impeachment, it is absolutely a coup — they took out their frontrunner,”  Trump said, referencing Joe Biden. “They took out probably their best player … with this impeachment sham.”

Monarch butterfly receives life-saving wing transplant at zoo, photos reveal

A wildlife volunteer at a Kansas zoo was able to save a fragile Monarch butterfly by performing a wing transplant.

Katie VanBlaricum, 36, working at her local zoo, noticed that the pretty insect had a piece of its wing missing, according to SWNS.

Using a glass plate, tape and pins, she managed to hold down the butterfly long enough to glue on a piece of wing taken from a dead butterfly.

“I was helping the zoo tag butterflies when a lady came up to me and said that one of them had a broken wing and she would have to put [it] in the freezer,” VanBlaricum told SWNS.

As it turns out, VanBlaricum works with dead insects at her business, known as Insect Art, in which she apparently creates jewelry and frames using dead insects. However, as she explains, the insects she uses for her artistic work are bred for that process and do not come from the wild.

“I managed to find [a butterfly] that was the same size and shape that could work,” she said.

As SWNS reports, she cut off the broken piece of wing and glued on the other wing, which came from a Graphium butterfly, then held it for a few seconds.

Monday’s episode of “Wheel of Fortune” got off to an oddly humorous start thanks to contestant Blair Davis.

Davis, the owner of a small trucking business in San Diego, was introduced to viewers by host Pat Sajak and was offered the floor to speak about his family. “I’ve been trapped in a loveless marriage for the last 12 years to an old battle-axe named Kim,” Davis said with perfect poise (via Mashable).

He continued with the same unsympathetic delivery, stating, “She cursed my life with three stepchildren named Star, RJ and Ryan and I have one rotten grandson.” The crowd laughed while Sajak nervously shouted, “Yay!”

“No wonder you came here, you just wanted to get away from everybody,” the host continued.

Sajak then said that he recognized Davis’ facetious nature, after which the contestant admitted that it was all a ruse. “Absolutely,” Davis said in agreement. “I love them like nobody’s business.”

Sajak then proceeded to ask about Davis’ long beard and his grandson. “I started growing the beard a couple of years back and every time I threaten to shave it off, [my grandson] gives me a really hard time. He’s grown used to it.”

In May, Sajak made game-show history when he was awarded the Guinness World Record for the “Longest Career as a Game Show Host of the Same Show” thanks to a career that has spanned nearly 36 years. The 72-year-old mainstay thanked hostess Vanna White while accepting the honor on-air, telling the actress, “I couldn’t have done it without you, kid.”

Hmmm: New Fox News competitor in the works — starring Megyn Kelly?

Westlake Legal Group mk Hmmm: New Fox News competitor in the works — starring Megyn Kelly? Viacom The Blog Shepard Smith shari redstone pluto Megyn Kelly fox news Chris Wallace CBS

I’m already on the record in predicting that we’ll eventually see “Primetime News featuring Shepard Smith and Megyn Kelly.”

I just assumed it’d be CNN that airs it instead of some new conservative-leaning start-up.

Really, though: How is this going to work, exactly? It’s big news if only because of who’s behind it — Shari Redstone, vice chairman of CBS and Viacom, the type of media titan who really could jumpstart a credible competitor to Fox on the right if she wanted to.

But why would she want to? Which niche of the right would be served by a Megyn-Kelly-led news channel?

This Redstone plan for a new TV service also would have a streaming component. THR has learned that Pluto, which Viacom acquired in March for $340 million, is about to launch an as-yet-unannounced streaming conservative news and opinion channel. A source says the idea for a conservative network was in the works before the Pluto acquisition.

Redstone has approached current and former Fox News personalities about such a plan, sources say, and she has spoken with former NBC News host Megyn Kelly. A rep for Kelly declined to comment…

Redstone sees an opening as the audience for TV news grows older and more conservative and Trump and some of his fans express disenchantment with ratings giant Fox News, which lost its top news anchor Oct. 11 when Shepard Smith announced his departure amid conflict with some of the network’s opinion hosts. One insider says Redstone thinks Fox News, whose top shows are hosted by Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham, has “gone crazy” in the Trump era as it also grapples with the sexual harassment-tainted legacy of network founder Roger Ailes.

That’s a shrewd insight about the demographics of cable news. It’s already a format preferred by geriatrics and geriatrics skew right, ergo in theory there’s money to be made in right-leaning programming as the geriatric population grows. It’s also shrewd to want to hire people known for working at Fox. The wider media will pay attention if Kelly lands there since it’s a “comeback” story on a silver platter. And righty media will (grudgingly) pay attention, at least at first, to see how pro- or anti-Trump the new network generally and Kelly in particular are being. If you want your new initiative to be in the same conversation as Fox, sign some anchors whose presence will necessarily place the network in the same conversation as Fox.

And support staff too. Rumor has it that Shep’s departure might trigger a mass exodus from the Fox News news division, so there’ll be no shortage of available talent.

Now, tell me who the target audience is. How many “Megyn Kelly conservatives” are out there? Shep isn’t mentioned in the piece but assume Redstone is interested in him too for his Fox pedigree. Which Republican viewers are tuning into this channel to watch Shep? The excerpt notes correctly that Trump and Trumpers have felt “disenchantment” with Fox lately, but that’s not because there aren’t enough Shep types at the channel. It’s because there are too many! Shep and Chris Wallace and John Roberts and the g–damned polling bureau, always delivering bad news for the president. Why can’t they all be like Hannity? Fox succeeds because the primetime bloc serves up a nightly smorgasbord of culture war and grievances about Trump’s nefarious enemies. That’s what righties want. Imagine flipping the channel from that to Shep and Megyn chattering about how, no, really, this Ukraine business with Rudy and Sondland and Parnas and Fruman looks shady as hell.

If something like this is going to work, it would need to follow the same basic formula as Fox. Fine, hire Kelly or Smith or whoever as some big-name attraction on the news side, but you’d better have A-list culture warriors on in the evening if you want to deliver the olds. Who’s Redstone going to get? O’Reilly? According to the excerpt, the “sexual-harassment-tainted legacy” at Fox is one reason why she thinks the network has “gone crazy.” Why would she transplant part of that to her own network?

I think OANN has the right idea, if not the A-list talent or production values, about how to beat Fox: Out-slobber them. Get to their right on opinion, to the extent there’s room to the right of Fox’s opinion, and let viewers (and the president) conclude that Fox is the RINO network after all.

For the record, Redstone insists this is all fake news:

I wonder, actually, if the idea of a CBS-backed conservative network is something Redstone cooked up to try to gain leverage over the administration as she waits for approval of the CBS/Viacom merger. If Trump knows that she’s thinking of launching an alternative to Fox, he might conclude that whether that network covers him favorably or not may depend on whether the merger is approved. Normally you wouldn’t expect the president to meddle for political reasons in the merger approval process, but … c’mon. Redstone understands how this administration functions. “I’m thinking of hiring Megyn Kelly” may be her way of nudging Trump not to make an enemy of her and to make sure the merger is approved.

Oh, by the way: This is making the rounds this afternoon. A new network called “The First” featuring right-wingers like Jesse Kelly, huh?
