Virginia man arrested on Black Friday after being found naked in Kohl’s parking lot, police say

A Virginia man was arrested Friday after police say he was found sitting naked in a car in a North Carolina Kohl’s parking lot on America’s busiest shopping day of the year.

Tylik Shawdu Little, 28, was spotted after a patrolling officer smelled marijuana coming from a row of vehicles, the Knightdale Police Department said in a news release.

The officer ordered Little to put clothes on and exit the vehicle, but he instead tried to escape by driving behind and between nearby buildings, according to authorities. He was stopped a short distance away and taken into custody, wearing pants and a shirt.

“This sort of public behavior on the busiest shopping day of the year is particularly appalling,” said Police Chief Lawrence Capps. “We are glad no citizens were adversely impacted and pleased that our emphasis on proactive patrols paid off in this instance.”

Despite the area being packed with Black Friday shoppers, authorities said they believed that only the officer saw Little’s lewd behavior. No passersby or store patrons had reported Little, whose motives weren’t immediately known, police said.

Jason Chaffetz: FBI deep state clear – will FISA report finally lead to action?

Following a series of four damning inspector general reports over the last two years, there is little doubt the senior leadership of the Obama-era FBI was weaponized in the service of the Democratic Party. But as America awaits what many expect to be the most damning investigation of all, it’s fair to ask what has been done to rein in our rogue FBI.

The report on FISA abuse set for release on Dec. 9 is expected to show how the FBI used the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) to spy on American citizens affiliated with the Trump campaign in 2016. As damning as such a conclusion would be, it will only be the latest in a series of explosive revelations from the Department of Justice Inspector General (IG) Michael Horowitz, some of which got muted coverage from the mainstream press. Advance leaks suggest the upcoming report will, at a minimum, show an FBI lawyer illegally altered documents to justify a FISA application.

Even before next week’s anticipated release, we already have IG reports implicating the FBI director, assistant director, deputy assistant director, and chief of the counterintelligence section. Though none of them remain at the bureau, we have seen little reassurance from current FBI Director Christopher Wray that the culture they created has changed.

REPS. BIGGS & PERRY: IMPEACHMENT INQUIRY SHOWS DEEP STATE CONTINUES TO UNDERMINE TRUMP

Thus far, no one has been prosecuted, despite a long string of damaging reports and referrals. An IG can make a recommendation but it is up to the DOJ to prosecute, even if it is one of their own.

A 63-page report released last month found “numerous issues” with the FBI’s use of confidential sources during a period that included the 2016 election. That report revealed that the FBI lacked appropriate procedures to vet and maintain oversight of sources like the ones used against the Trump campaign. This created a security risk for the United States. Yet no prosecutions have been announced.

Last August, an even more serious finding was released when the IG determined that the FBI director himself had violated FBI policy and the terms of his own employment agreement in disseminating classified information for release to the media. Though the DOJ could have prosecuted based on the report’s findings, it declined to do so.

More from Opinion

A May 2019 IG report implicated the FBI deputy assistant director for unauthorized contacts with the media, illegally disclosing sealed court documents and other sensitive information to the media, and accepting gifts from the media. The DOJ declined to prosecute. But why? The IG recommended prosecution.

The IG’s June 2018 probe into the Hillary Clinton email investigation implicated the FBI’s head of counterintelligence, Peter Strzok, of repeatedly articulating a strong political bias even as he headed up the investigation of Clinton’s exposure of classified information. The 500-page report, which reviewed 1.2 million documents and included interviews with more than 100 witnesses, documented numerous questionable decisions that benefited Clinton or damaged Trump, though the IG acknowledged the parties denied their political bias impacted their decisions.

The FBI is in shambles and there has been little to no public acknowledgment of the crisis by the current director. No work by him to stem this tide of political bias is evident to the public.

The report also highlighted an interoffice affair between Strzok and FBI lawyer Lisa Page, both of whom worked on the Clinton and Trump investigations. Next week’s IG report is also expected to document an affair between two other FBI lawyers who worked together on the FISA applications.

What is going on at the FBI and why no consequences for such blatant violations of internal policy and the law? And why did these vulnerabilities exist for so long without detection? No doubt adversarial intelligence agencies could have figured this out quite easily, making our intelligence operations vulnerable to exploitation.

Finally, an April 2018 report implicated FBI Assistant Director Andrew McCabe of inappropriately authorizing the disclosure of sensitive information to a reporter and repeatedly lying to investigators about it. The report found McCabe lied four times, three under oath, and that it was done “in a manner designed to advance his personal interests at the expense of Department leadership.” Though McCabe was fired, he wasn’t prosecuted.

What message does it send when the Justice Department protects its own?

The FBI is in shambles and there has been little to no public acknowledgment of the crisis by Director Wray. No work by him to stem this tide of political bias is evident to the public.

With the release of next week’s FISA report, we must demand action by Wray. Given the well-documented wrongdoing by the previous FBI director, deputy director, deputy assistant director, the chief of counterintelligence, and evidently DOJ counsel, the American people are right to question the legitimacy of America’s federal law enforcement apparatus.

If the American people are going to regain confidence in the senior leadership of the FBI, the Justice Department will need to prosecute wrongdoing as they would if it weren’t one of their own. Until then, questions of imbalance, favoritism and bias in one direction will persist. Certainly, we deserve better.

Washington movie theater evacuated after ‘highly contagious’ package of urine sent to wrong address

A movie theater in Washington state resembled a scene out of a disaster flick on Friday night after a box with a dire warning was left outside the building, triggering an evacuation after urine samples were sent to the wrong address.

The incident happened around 5:15 p.m. at the North Bend Theater in the town of North Bend, located around 30 miles east of Seattle.

The Eastside Professional Firefighters said on Twitter that first responders converged on the theater for a hazmat call with a box marked “highly contagious human substance” that had been opened up.

A total of five hazmat techs arrived at the theater to analyze the package as the building was evacuated and nearby streets were closed as authorities tried to determine what was inside the package, according to fire officials.

Snoqualmie Police Sgt. Paul Graham told KOMO News the theater manager opened up the package and discovered the liquid inside. The manager was then taken to an area hospital as a precaution due to regular exposure protocol.

Eastside Fire and Rescue Deputy Chief Richard Burke told the Seattle Times the person didn’t show signs of illness but went to the hospital as a precaution, as officials weren’t sure what was in the box.

“All is well,” the theater said Saturday on its website. “The emergency vehicles you may have seen in front of the theatre on Friday, November 29, were there in response to our call regarding a mislabeled package that was leaking an unknown liquid.”

The theater praised the “professionalism” of Eastside Fire and Rescue and the Snoqualmie Police Department, saying there was no danger and they would open for business on Saturday to show “Frozen II.”

Customs and Border Protection officer accused of killing wife on Thanksgiving

A Customs and Border Protection officer was arrested in the murder of his wife, also a CBP employee, who was killed in their Texas home on Thanksgiving, police said.

Dudley Bernard, 40, was taken into custody in the front yard of his League City property Thursday night after his wife, 42-year-old Chauntelle Bernard was found dead, according to the local police department.

Paul Batura: Change the course of your child’s life by doing THIS

In every generation, children’s needs have been a hot topic of debate.

Over the years, you won’t find much disagreement regarding the practical essentials for a child’s health and well-being — things like adequate shelter, comfortable clothing, sufficient food and quality health care. But while everyone may agree on the need for all four of those items, not everyone sees eye to eye on how much of those things are enough – or when enough becomes too much.

“Luxuries have become necessities for today’s children,” my mother used to lament.

CAROL ROTH: STOP SCARING OUR KIDS — THE WORLD IS NOT ABOUT TO END AND WE ARE NOT ALL ABOUT TO DIE

The older I get, the more I appreciate her point of view.

Eras reflect the tensions of the day, of course, especially when it comes to children’s needs. Back in 1917, beset by a tuberculosis outbreak, the health commissioner of New York City implored parents to start feeding their kids a healthier diet. They were also urged to stop serving them drinks like “tea, coffee, soda water, beer, wine, whisky and cider.”

Beer, whisky and wine for kids? It’s no wonder prohibition passed in 1919.

By the 1940s, the Child Welfare League of America expanded beyond food nutrition concerns, stating that “Every child needs to feel secure in his home, school and neighborhood relationships. He needs to feel he is wanted, loved and understood.”

If that was important then, what do today’s children need now?

I’ve been thinking a lot about what else our boys need beyond the physical essentials.

Every child needs many things – and the most important things are the ones you can’t normally see or hold in your hand. As a parent, I’m regularly trying to pass on intangibles like faith in God, along with attributes like honesty, integrity, character, kindness and self-control, to name just a few of the “secrets” to a rewarding and meaningful life .

The late Father Theodore Hesburgh, the longtime president of Notre Dame, once famously said, “The most important thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother.”

I think the Irish prelate was right, but there’s another thing our children need:

Our kids need to see us doing what we love.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be work-related, though aligning our gifts with our profession plays a huge role in life satisfaction. Sadly, surveys show that over 70 percent of people don’t enjoy their job.

When our children catch us firing on all cylinders, whether it’s in the midst of a hobby or a job, we’re demonstrating the fact that life can be enjoyable, exciting and full of meaning and purpose. In reaching for our own dreams we quietly encourage them to reach for theirs.

“People rarely succeed unless they have fun in what they are doing,” wrote the late self-help guru Dale Carnegie. I think he was right.

My mother was a fiercely curious person. She loved clipping obituaries and listening to talk radio. She knew everything about everyone in our neighborhood, especially those who walked past our house on the way to the train.

My mom also loved to read. I’d find her on our side porch, pouring over stacks of newspapers and magazines. She was probably never happier than when she had a good book or the Wall Street Journal in her hand.

I realize now that I fell in love with writing because I first saw how much my mother loved to read. She always tried to find threads that a pointed to higher truth in what she was reading, something that I try to do when I write today.

It’s been said values and loves are more often caught than taught. This is certainly the case with the unique relational dynamic that exists between parents and kids.

Whether it’s passion about the job at the office or the joy we receive from sailing the high seas, it’s the wise parent who makes sure their child knows what turns their crank.

That’s because enthusiasm plants seeds of excitement in others – and what we sow today will often be harvested tomorrow by the next generation.

Matt Gaetz backs Trump pick for Georgia Senate seat, warns governor to do same: ‘Maybe you need a primary in 2022’

U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz suggested to Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp on Friday that there could be political consequences if Kemp decides not to choose President Trump’s reported favorite for the state’s expected U.S. Senate vacancy.

In a series of Twitter messages on the day after Thanksgiving, Gaetz, a Florida Republican, called on Kemp to choose U.S. Rep. Doug Collins for the seat, when Sen. Johnny Isakson steps down at the end of the year.

Collins, 53, is a Republican who has represented Georgia in Congress since January 2013 and is the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, which is scheduled to hold impeachment hearings this week. Like Gaetz, who also serves on the Judiciary Committee, Collins is considered a staunch defender of President Trump.

Kemp, a Republican, has been leaning instead toward appointing financial executive Kelly Loeffler to the Senate, according to the Washington Times.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, left, has been feeling some pressure from U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., right, over Georgia’s upcoming U.S. Senate vacancy.

“You are ignoring his request because you THINK you know better than @POTUS,” Gaetz wrote in one Twitter message. “If you substitute your judgement [sic] for the President’s, maybe you need a primary in 2022. Let’s see if you can win one w/o Trump.”

“You are hurting President Trump,” Gaetz wrote in another tweet. “You know this because he told you.”

Kemp had fired off a Twitter message of his own.

“The idea that I would appoint someone to the U.S. Senate that is NOT pro-life, pro-2nd Amendment, pro-freedom, and 100% supportive of our President (and his plan to Keep America Great) is ridiculous,” Kemp wrote. “The attacks and games are absolutely absurd. Frankly, I could care less what the political establishment thinks.”

Kemp had previously faced backlash from pro-life advocates over Loeffler’s reported ties to organizations favoring abortion.

The Senate vacancy arose in August when Isakson, the 74-year-old chairman of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee, announced plans to retire amid his battle with Parkinson’s disease.

“I am leaving a job I love because my health challenges are taking their toll on me, my family and my staff,” Isakson said at the time.

Meanwhile, Kemp and Loeffler met with Trump at the White House last Sunday – with the meeting quickly becoming tense and ending abruptly, The Wall Street Journal reported last week.

Sources told the Journal that Kemp said he remained open to the president’s preference for the Senate seat as well, and Kemp and Trump reportedly spoke by phone on Monday, although the outcome of their discussion was unknown, the report said.

As “Defender of the Faith and Supreme Governor of the Church of England,” Queen Elizabeth II leads one of the largest churches in the world. While active membership and regular attendance have waned in past decades, the queen’s profile as a Christian leader has risen.

Yes, her religious leadership role comes with the monarch’s job description, but her majesty has done more than fulfill a figurehead role. Throughout her more-than 60-year reign, Elizabeth has consistently followed the example of Jesus and provided a model of Christian faith in action.

More than the product of polite deference to historical tradition, the queen’s faith transcends her inherited responsibility and the theology of the Anglican Church. Her faith shines with the luster of a lifetime serving others, refined by the fires of deep-seated struggles and polished by her humor and humility.

DOUGLAS MACKINNON: PRESIDENT TRUMP, I HOPE YOU LISTEN TO THE QUEEN — YOU CAN HAVE NO BETTER TUTOR

Such an authentic faith could not be merely academic, political, or social but is undoubtedly personal, visceral and deeply intimate.

Perhaps the queen’s faith began, as it did for many of us, as an obligation, a product of family custom and cultural tradition. She had little choice but to embrace the duty of the crown.

As monarch, she was viewed historically if not theologically as God’s chosen sovereign for the people of the United Kingdom and British Commonwealth of Nations. But even as the world changed, Elizabeth found a way to maintain the timeless tenets of the Christian faith while accepting cultural and social evolution.

While most Christians no longer look to a special delegate, prophet, priest or monarch as their spiritual exemplar, we still take notice of individual leaders’ faith. We look to see if their walk matches their talk.

We see how they treat others, particularly those with whom they disagree. We watch their response to tragedy, both personal and universal. We notice their attitude toward God, Christ, the scriptures and the various faiths of others.

Elizabeth did not choose her role, nor did she refuse it. Yet, she has never used her royal position as a pedestal for self-aggrandizement, self-indulgence, or self-congratulations.

Instead, she has accepted her position as queen, head of the church, and defender of the faith solemnly and soberly. But it clearly is not duty alone driving her decades of service. Something in the fiber of her faith is clearly informed by her personal relationship with God.

Surprising as it may be to some even as it is assumed by others, Queen Elizabeth II has much to teach us about living out our faith and following the example set by Jesus Christ.

Early on, she accepted the call placed on her life, yet she made that role uniquely her own by the way she has lived, served, and reigned. She discovered the only way to wear the royal grandeur of the monarchy was to remain clothed in her humanity. And her Christian faith remains the thread stitching person and personage, duty and desire, together.
