Bill Maher Reminds Rashida Tlaib: If You Want to Boycott Me Over BDS, You’ll Need to Boycott Your Party, Too

Because we must ban/boycott/punish all the things associated with upsetting Democratic Squad members like Rep. Rashida Tlaib (MI), it wasn’t a big shocker that over the weekend she called for people to boycott liberal comedian/cable TV talk show host Bill Maher after he went on an epic anti-BDS rant Friday night.

To recap, Empress Tlaib was none too pleased that Maher called the BDS movement for what it was on his “Real Time” HBO program in the aftermath of the “outrage” over Israel’s Thursday decision to bar both Omar and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) from entry on security grounds:

“It’s a bulls— purity test, BDS is a bulls— purity test by people who want to appear ‘woke’ but actually slept through history class,” Maher said, drawing loud cheers from the audience. “It’s predicated on this notion … I think it’s very shallow thinking that the Jews in Israel are mostly white and Palestinians are mostly brown, so they must be innocent and correct and the Jews must be wrong. As if the occupation came right out of the blue, that this ‘completely peaceful people’ found themselves occupied. Forget about the intifadas and the suicide bombings and the rockets and how many wars.”

The HBO star quoted BDS movement founder Omar Barghouti, who said, “No Palestinian — rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian — will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

“So that’s where that comes from, this movement. Someone who doesn’t even want a Jewish state at all,” Maher told the panel. “Somehow this side never gets represented in the American media. It’s very odd.”

[…]

“I see why [Omar and Tlaib] don’t get a hero’s welcome,” he added.

“Maybe folks should boycott his show,” Tlaib tweeted Saturday about Maher. “This is exactly how they tried to discredit & stop the boycott to stand up against the apartheid in S. Africa.”

Maher responded on Twitter today, and included video of the Friday night segment to reiterate his point and show he was not going to back down:

Correction: The House vote to condemn the BDS movement was 398-17. That includes 209 Democrats, which only further amplifies Maher’s point.

As I’ve written previously, I frequently disagree with Maher. He’s wrong probably 95% of the time. But on the BDS movement, he was spot on. Tlaib can continue to try and shame people on the left and right who dare to expose the poisonous anti-Semitic rhetoric she and Omar use, but that will only make those same people louder. Maher proved that today.

Trump: All I meant when I said Jews who vote Democrat are “disloyal” is that they’re disloyal to Jewish people — and to Israel

Westlake Legal Group dt-6 Trump: All I meant when I said Jews who vote Democrat are “disloyal” is that they’re disloyal to Jewish people — and to Israel Trump The Blog rashida tlaib Jews jewish Israel Ilhan Omar disloyal democrats

Via the Examiner, my sympathies to the MAGA diehards who spent last night spinning his comments in the Oval Office about the alleged “disloyalty” of Jewish Democrats. Usually he leaves enough room for ambiguity in the things he says that hairs can be split later in the name of defending him. In this case, it could have been argued that he didn’t mean Jewish Democrats owe loyalty to a foreign power, Israel, but merely loyalty to their own faith.

Which itself wouldn’t have been great. “If he was trying to say Jews would be disloyal to their faith by voting Democrat, he needs to shut right the heck up, because he is in no position to criticize somebody’s relationship to their faith,” wrote Philip Klein yesterday.

But this morning, as you’ll see below, he left no doubt that he had loyalty to Israel, not just to Judaism, in mind when he said what he said. Some of his closest friends had already understood him to mean that, in fact:

Normally it would go without saying that an American citizen owes no loyalty to any country except this one. Normally, in fact, nationalists would insist upon it. (America First!) Normally righties are rightly defensive on behalf of Jews when it’s suggested that “supporters of Israel” harbor a dual loyalty, as Ilhan Omar did a few months ago. But now here’s Trump suggesting that people — maybe not just Jewish Democrats either, although they were the targets of his criticism yesterday — do owe a certain loyalty to the Jewish state.

How our ostentatiously nationalist president came to endorse the idea of dual loyalty confounded me yesterday but I think Jay Michaelson cut to the heart of it. I’ve said before that Trumpian nationalism is really just tribalism in patriotic attire. Exactly, says Michaelson, so it makes sense that Trump would believe that a different “tribe” owes loyalty to a different country:

In the nationalist mind, nation equals ethnicity equals race equals language equals (more or less) religion. Jews should put Israel first, and fight for our group’s interests (as defined by the nationalist Right, of course), because that’s what groups do. Judaism isn’t a system of ethical values that, among other things, condemns the oppression of foreigners and marginalized people (see Exodus 22:21-22). It’s a volk, a national-religious-ethnic people, in competition with others for dominance and power.

The same is true for Britons, (Hindu) Indians, (Jewish) Israelis, Russians, (non-indigenous) Brazilians, and other national groups now governed by nationalists. The Steve Bannon-Vladimir Putin world is one in which selfish national groups compete against one another externally and purify themselves internally. That’s how they make their countries great again…

What’s anti-Semitic in Trump’s latest remark isn’t its invocation of Jewish disloyalty. What’s really anti-Semitic is the worldview it reveals, in which nations are defined monolithically by their majority groups.

We all owe loyalty to our own tribe. Many large tribes have evolved into nations. America is a tribe of mainly white Christian Europeans, at least to Trump; Israel is a tribe of Jews. Ergo, the American Jewish minority naturally would owe loyalty to Israel. You can see why that logic makes supporters of Israel nervous: Sure, Trump is speaking in Israel’s defense, but at the heart of his argument is the idea that Jews aren’t really American the way other Americans are. That idea is uncomfortable even in the hands of someone who’s friendly to them, as Trump is. In the hands of someone who isn’t, it’s poison.

By the way, he’s been on quite a tear today on the subject of Jews and Israel:

The “King of Israel” and “the second coming of God,” huh? He also said this today in the context of the trade war with China:

The “second coming” and “the chosen one” on the same day! If he starts speaking Aramaic, all bets are off. Here he is talking about Israel and loyalty.

In May, Oscar-winning actor and dad to Angelina Jolie surely made some noggins combust when he proclaimed Donald J. Trump “the greatest president since Abraham Lincoln” (see here).

Well, brace for more blowout.

In a video posted to Twitter Monday, Mr. Voight took aim at “the radical Left” and their far-from-tolerant disposition before giving the President yet another title: the greatest president of this century.

“This is not peace,” he says in the clip. “This is not love. This is hate among the radical Left.”

Jon explains that “no amount of ‘book smart’ will show the given policy of what truth stands for. Truth is a powerful emotion.” Furthermore, he says, “Love is what we should be voting for.”

The actor expounds further on that whole “hate” idea:

“[T]his is war among the Left. They have hate. It’s like a venom. No words of God, no words of love, but a radical emotion of hate.”

He also praises the Commander-in-Chief for his stance in defense of Israel:

“I’ve said this many times, and I’m saying it again: From the deep truths of my heart and soul, President Trump is a man of truths, love, and justice for the American people. And also for the people of a sacred place — Israel.”

Trump certainly hasn’t shied away from defending the tiny and threatened Middle Eastern nation. He did so again on the White House lawn Wednesday, with a 2020 tie-in:

“In my opinion, the Democrats have gone very far away from Israel, I cannot understand how they can do that. They don’t want to fund Israel. They want to take away foreign aid to Israel. They want to do a lot of bad things to Israel. In my opinion, you vote for a Democrat, you’re being very disloyal to Jewish people and very disloyal to Israel.”

“Not only does [the President] love our country, the United States of America,” Jon notes, “but he has a love for the people of all nations.”

In closing, the Ray Donovan star asks for prayer for the Leader of the Free World as he wishes for clarity and a change of heart within those who detest him:

“Let us pray for peace. Let us pray for this country, that President Trump will take on four more years of his strength, devotion, knowledge of truths. And all that doubt and who have extreme hate and anger toward President Trump, may they be shown differently, that President Trump is the greatest president of this century. Let us take a stand for liberty and justice for all. God bless.”

Given the climate of Tinseltown, personally, I find Jon Voight’s perpetually outspoken endorsement of The Donald remarkable. If you think you and I are aware of Hollywood’s left-wing lean, how much more so must be a man who’s appeared in 98 productions starting in 1963?

But he isn’t wavering with his support.

Also unfaltering is his hope — for the United States and for the world.

-ALEX

Lindsey Graham to Omar and Tlaib: Yes, We Should Reconsider Aid to Israel – by Giving Them More

In a move that was entirely predictable from the outset, Democratic Reps. Rashida Tlaib (MI) and Ilhan Omar (MN) on Monday brought up the idea during their press conference that the U.S. should reconsider giving aid to Israel after the country barred them from entry last Thursday on security grounds.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) pushed back on them on Twitter Tuesday, which we’ll get to in a minute. But first, a recap of what Omar said Monday about funding.

During the presser, where Tlaib broke down in tears describing how as a child she had to watch her mother go through “dehumanizing checkpoints” in order to visit relatives, Omar floated the idea of the U.S. cutting off aid to Israel:

Omar said U.S. aid to Israel should be tied to how Palestinians are treated.

“Fortunately, we the United States have a constructive role to play. We give Israel more than $3 million in aid every year. This is predicated on their being an important ally in the region and the only democracy in the Middle East, but denying a visit to duly elected members of Congress is not consistent with being an ally, and denying millions of people freedom of movement or expression or self-determination is not consistent with being a democracy,” she said.

“We must be asking, as Israel’s ally, the Netanyahu government stop the expansion of settlements on Palestinian land, and ensure full rights for Palestinians if we are to give them aid. These are not just my views. These are the views held by the range of experts, peace advocates on this issue. We know Donald Trump would love nothing more than to use this issue to pit Muslims and Jewish Americans against each other,” she added.

Whatever anyone wants to say about Omar and Tlaib (and The Squad in general), they have turned deceiving gullible people (their supporters and the media) by operating on the pretense of wanting peace and harmony between the Jews and Palestinians into almost an art form.

When Omar first announced several weeks ago that she and Tlaib were planning this trip, you better believe they both knew in advance about Israel’s anti-BDS law that forbids anyone promoting the anti-Semitic BDS movement entry into their country.

That their request to visit Israel was denied wasn’t a surprise to anyone. It certainly wasn’t to the two Congresswomen who pretend that supporting a hate group that doesn’t believe Israel has the right to exist, and accusing Jews of dual loyalty and buying off lawmakers can’t possibly be anti-Semitism.

Clearly both Omar and Tlaib manipulated the situation to their advantage, but not everyone is falling for it.

One person most definitely not falling for it is Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), who has been a vocal critic of The Squad’s tactics in the past. He responded to their push to cut off funding for Israel by saying we should actually give them more:

In two more tweets, he explained why:

Graham has taken several trips to Israel this year. One was in March to discuss the Golan Heights issue. Another was in July, where he stated he wanted “to see the lay of the land, how’s their inventory of missiles holding up, and I think we need more missile funding not less.”

As he often does, President Trump took to the Twitter machine earlier today to express his opinion on the press conference held yesterday by Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) and Ilhan Omar (D-MN) in which the two Congresswomen condemned Israel’s decision last Thursday to bar them from entry on security grounds.

Here’s a recap of what was alleged at the presser, via CBS News:

“Netanyahu’s decision to deny us entry might be unprecedented for members of Congress,” Omar said during a press conference, referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “But it is the policy of his government when it comes to Palestinians. This is the policy of his government when it comes to anyone who holds views that threaten the occupation.”

[…]

The Israeli government did offer to let Tlaib in on humanitarian grounds to visit her 90-year-old Palestinian grandmother on the condition that she did not promote a boycott of Israel. Tlaib initially agreed, but later rejected the offer, saying she would not make the visit under “oppressive conditions.”

Getting visibly emotional, Tlaib said she made the decision to not accept the conditional travel permit after consulting with her grandmother and other family members.

“Through tears, at three o’clock in the morning, we all decided as a family that I could not go until I was a free, American United States Congresswoman coming there, not only to see my grandmother but to talk to Palestinian and Israeli organizations that believed that my grandmother deserves human dignity as much as anyone else does,” she said.

Here’s the video of Tlaib crying as she talked about family members having to go through “dehumanizing checkpoints” to visit her grandparents:

In a tweet posted earlier today, Trump stated he wasn’t buying it:

He later expanded on his comments when asked about the press conference at the White House:

PRESIDENT TRUMP: No. And you should see the horrible things that Tlaib has said about Israel, and “AOC plus three.” That’s what I call it. “AOC” — just take “AOC plus three.” And you should see the things that the four of them have said about Israel over the last couple of years.

I mean, Omar is a disaster for Jewish people. I can’t imagine, if she has any Jewish people in her district, that they could possibly vote for her. But what Omar has said, what Tlaib has said.

And then, yesterday, I noticed for the first time, Tlaib with the tears. All of a sudden, she starts with tears. Tears. And I don’t buy it. I don’t buy it. I don’t buy it for a second because I’ve seen her in a very vicious mood at campaign rallies — my campaign rallies — before she was a congresswoman. I said, “Who is that?” And I saw a woman that was violent and vicious and out of control.

And all of a sudden, I see this person who’s crying because she can’t see her grandmother. She can see her grandmother. They have her permission to see her grandmother, but she grandstanded and she didn’t want to do it.

[…]

And I think any Jewish people that vote for a Democrat, I think it shows either a total lack of knowledge or great disloyalty.

Watch his remarks about The Squad below:

Liberals on Twitter are, of course, flipping out because Trump used the disloyalty card, which to them equates to an anti-Semitic trope (even though Omar’s and Tlaib’s actual anti-Semitism is not actual anti-Semitism or something, as we have been told over the last several months).

In any event, as nauseating as it has been to watch Tlaib and Omar play the victim card for the last several days, and whether or not you agree with all he said today on the subject, one thing Trump said is unquestionably true:

These two perpetually outraged and disingenuous radical extremist Congresswomen, along with AOC and Ayanna Pressley are the faces of the Democratic party.

Trump: Jews who vote for Democrats nowadays are either ignorant or disloyal

Westlake Legal Group dt-4 Trump: Jews who vote for Democrats nowadays are either ignorant or disloyal Trump tlaib The Blog omar jewish Israel democrats

The key bit comes in the last 30 seconds of the clip, following a few minutes of criticism of Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib. We’re about to embark on an exciting news cycle of “To whom does Trump believe Jews owe ‘loyalty,’ exactly?”

Does he mean loyalty to Judaism? We don’t normally let politicians lecture members of a religious group on what makes them good or bad members of their own faith, especially when the politician in question isn’t a member of that faith. Presumably Jews themselves know best what makes a loyal Jew; given that 71 percent of them voted for Hillary three years ago and a heavy majority will vote for the Democrat again next year, most would disagree with his theological pronouncement here. Note that he’s not even saying that Jewish Democrats who specifically support Omar and Tlaib are bad Jews, he’s saying that Jewish Democrats who support the Democratic Party writ large in the age of Omar and Tlaib are, never mind that Omar’s BDS resolution was crushed in the House by a bipartisan vote a few weeks ago. He’s actually doing the same thing here that various lefties have tried to do to his own supporters when they claim that only racists would support the Trump-era GOP, imputing the worst motive to voters on the other side even though people choose to support a party for complicated reasons, and with various misgivings. Trump’s duplicating that but adding a fraught element of religious authenticity to it.

Or does he mean loyalty to Israel? That’d be worse since it would mean he thinks American Jews owe some duty of loyalty to a foreign country, a weird position for an American nationalist to take — and needless to say, waaaaay too close to the “dual loyalty” stereotype that Omar rightly got in trouble for when she claimed earlier this year that U.S. supporters of Israel evince “loyalty” to Tel Aviv. People threw a fit over that because of how it connected admirers of the Jewish state to the anti-semitic belief that Jews can’t be trusted to show loyalty to their home country the same way everyone else can. Trump’s pushing the same idea here but he seems to be endorsing it. American Jews *should* show more loyalty to a foreign state and one way to do that is to rethink their support for the opposition party here at home.

This isn’t the first time he’s suggested in passing that American Jews are subjects of Israel somehow, by the way:

Trump has said other … colorful things about Jews that jibe with anti-semitic stereotypes but he never seems to mean them in an unflattering way. Skilled with money, practiced at haggling, loyal to Israel — he appears to mean all of these things as compliments, notes Josh Barro. Yair Rosenberg compared Trump’s attitude to the one satirized here. It’s of a piece with the new strain of global nationalism that David Frum wrote about a few weeks ago, in which an authoritarian leader comes to power vowing to bar the foreigners who are invading and corrupting the country — but makes an explicit exception for Jews, who are welcome and valued. They’re still different, not quite like all the rest of us, but in their case it’s okay. Their differences are to be admired.

I don’t think either of those interpretations of what he meant by “disloyal” are going to fly, though, so the White will probably settle on something like this as the spin:

We don’t typically think of loyalty and disloyalty in terms of oneself. Loyalty by definition is a duty one owes to another, again raising the question of who the other is in this case. But since all of the other answers are uncomfortable, Brooks’s read on it will have to be the party line.

By now you’ve likely seen Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s continued performance concerning the supposed cruelty of Israel now including her breaking down into tears over Israeli checkpoints she claimed “dehumanized” her mother.

As Tlaib was giving a statement to the press, she began crying upon telling the story.

It doesn’t seem that many are buying the idea that her tears are genuine. Even President Donald Trump waved them away as pure performance.

It’s hard to take Tlaib’s emotions seriously, seeing as how checkpoints aren’t exactly uncommon. You see them going into sporting events, concerts, and you have to deal with the over-funded and under-successful TSA anytime you want to hop on a plane. Tlaib doesn’t seem to be crying over the dehumanization Americans go through when they’re x-rayed and bodies exposed, just the ones around the Israeli borders.

I wonder why.

However, amid the backlash Tlaib was receiving over her anti-Israeli crocodile tears, one tweet stood out to me that I thought made Tlaib’s performance seem even more shallow.

A woman named Frimeth Roth, an Israeli citizen, tweeted at Tlaib that her mother’s dehumanization is a small price to pay compared to the one she paid for a lack of one.

“Rep Tlaib cried about her mother being “dehumanized” at Israeli checkpoints,” tweeted Roth. “My child Malki, a US citizen murdered at 15, would be here today had a checkpoint stopped her murderer and a 10 kg bomb from entering Jerusalem. Remind Tlaib: Checkpoints prevent terrorism – save lives.”

I doubt Talib would actually present a legitimate argument to this mother, especially in the face of the checkpoints she’s ignoring. It’s sad that this woman’s child was taken out by the very people Tlaib tends to defend and would have been stopped were it for one of those “dehumanizing” checkpoints.

For Israel, and even the United States, we have this checkpoints because “some people did something” to quote Rep. Ilhan Omar. That people were radical Islamic terrorists who hail from various areas surrounding Israel. The land that Tlaib calls Palestine. The thing they did is killing innocent people with bombs, planes, knives, and more.

We need those checkpoints and all the fake tears in the world won’t change people’s minds about that. Not in the face of the threat we face if we don’t have them.

This is CNN.

Commentator Peter Beinart was on opposite of National Review’s Rich Lowry yesterday to discuss the situation with Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib being barred from Israel over their anti-Semitic BDS promotion. That went about as well as you could expect.

After being asked about the organization that was paying for Omar and Tlaib’s trip, which has a vast history of terror ties, anti-Semitism and pushing blood libels against Jews, Beinart decided he couldn’t simply denounce them. Instead, he had to make excuses, and that meant losing his mind and railing that Palestinians have a right to foment violence.

Beinart could have simply condemned all violence unequivocally. He could have just dodged and stuck with defending the anti-Semitic group Miftah, which would have been bad enough on its own. Nope, he goes right to defending suicide bombings by qualifying why Palestinians think that stuff is ok and that it’s like slavery.

Transcript via Newsbusters.

BEINART: These — this is not — Hanan Ashrawi —

LOWRY: Oh, they just say some racist things!?

BEINART: — I know Hanan. I’m sorry — sorry, Rich.

LOWRY: They support some terrorism, but that’s okay.

BEINART: With all due respect, you have not been there and seen this on the ground. I know Hanan Ashrawi. She is not even close to a white nationalist. She is someone seeking freedom for her people.

LOWRY: Then why does the organization publish things supporting terrorism?

BEINART: Rich, I disagree with violent resistance —

LOWRY: Yeah, but why do they —

BEINART: — because a lot of Palestinians believe that because they are subject to daily violence of a system which denies them basic rights, they have the right to respond violently. I disagree with them —

LOWRY: By killing innocent people.

BEINART: But if an African-American who supported violence against the United States under slavery or Jim Crow, that did not excuse their denial of basic rights because I disagree the tactic they were using to resist it.

These kinds of ridiculous framings ignore the reality of why Israel holds control over the Palestinian territories and who actually runs them. Yes, Israel controls their borders (because shockingly, it’s also Israel’s border) and tries to maintain some level of peace. Israel also is only involved in the areas because numerous Arab nations and the Palestinians tried to destroy Israel multiple times, including in 1967 and 1973. Fun fact, when you attack another country on your border and lose, you don’t typically get your autonomy handed right back to you. In the case of Hebron, which Omar brought up in a tweet, Palestinians slaughtered Jews there. Is it in any wonder the Israelis have stepped up security there?

In the case of the Palestinians though, they’ve been offered their own country numerous times. They’ve rejected it every single time because their authorities keep their power based on grievance and violence. Without the Jews to blame everything on, they’d suddenly be left at the mercy of their people.

Meanwhile, in reality, Gaza and the West Bank are in the condition they are in, not because Israel oppresses them, but because they elected terrorist governments to lead them. Governments which don’t give people basic rights, which spend money on paying suicide bombers instead of medical care, and who can’t even keep up basic infrastructure.

The idea that if only Israel weren’t around that everyone in the region would be living in peace with sunshine and roses is nonsense. What you see in the Palestinian territories today is exactly what you’d see if they were their own nation, but probably worse because Israel wouldn’t be around helping provide many basic necessities.

Beinart should spare us the ridiculous notion that Palestinian violence is justified or that Israel is the one propagating their suffering. Israel is in an impossible position trying to deal with terrorists on their borders who don’t want to negotiate in good faith and seek their annihilation. Instead of holding them to standards no other country on earth is held to in the face of aggression, we should be acknowledging their restraint and pressing the Palestinians hard to finally start making changes.

Unfortunately, with the recent political rise of anti-Semites like Omar and Tlaib, matters seem to being going backwards and that’s not going to work out well for anyone.

Forward editor: Democrat silence on Omar, Tlaib anti-Semitism is getting deafening

Westlake Legal Group omar-tlaib Forward editor: Democrat silence on Omar, Tlaib anti-Semitism is getting deafening The Blog rashida tlaib Israel Ilhan Omar democrats anti-semitism 2020 Democratic primaries

When will Democrats finally take a stand against the anti-Semitic public statements from two of its own US Representatives? The Forward laid down a challenge yesterday to the Left in a column titled “The Left can no longer excuse its anti-Semitism.” Coming from a leading progressive Jewish publication, one would think that Democrats would find it tough to ignore.

Unfortunately, as The Forward’s opinion editor remarked in a Twitter thread this morning, it wasn’t as tough for Democrats and the Left to ignore as she’d hoped:

This refers to a Carlos Latuff political cartoon circulated by Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib after Benjamin Netanyahu blocked their trip to Israel. Both shared the cartoon showing Netanyahu and Donald Trump gagging Tlaib and Omar, with a Star of David prominently displayed between the two scenes. Put aside the ridiculous idea that either of these two have been gagged in any way; they’re on tour at the moment, having come through Minneapolis in the last couple of days. Latuff uses the Star of David as an accusation against Jews, not just Israel, as Latuff doesn’t even bother to masquerade the accusation by putting blue bars around it and pretending it was the nation’s flag.

Columnist Izabella Tabarovsky demanded that the Left and Democrats condemn Omar and Tlaib for sharing anti-Semitic propaganda, but didn’t hold out much hope they would:

There is, sadly, nothing new about anti-Semitic cartoons in the progressive blogosphere or on “woke” social media. Latuff and his explanations are well-known entities. And confined to their corners of the internet, those cartoons are easy to ignore: All you have to do is avoid the sites that publish them. Most Jews have learned to do just that.

What made things different this time though was the fact that this cartoon was embraced and promoted by two American elected officials with a cumulative Instagram following of 1.3 million.

Making things worse was the fact that the cartoon came on the heels of the revelation that on their Israel trip, the two Congresswomen had planned to use the services of an NGO that had spread a blood libel about Jews, published an American neo-Nazi treatise about Jewish control of American media and entertainment, and celebrated terror attacks against civilians.

Just to give the proper context, The Forward is not exactly a bastion of conservative thought. It has been a leading voice for progressivism in Jewish circles for decades, very critical of Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu, and has criticized Trump’s treatment of both women at times. This is not a publication that freely tosses around charges of anti-Semitism at leading progressives and Democrats.

And yet, here we are, both Tabarovsky and Ungar-Sargon say, and it’s not just a one-off. It’s a trend among their fellow progressives, and they’re in full denial over it:

The silence has been deafening indeed — and for a while. The cartoon, in fact, is not the first time in recent months that Democratic presidential candidates have turned the other way when confronted with anti-Semitic content in progressive spaces.

At the recent Netroots Nation summit — “the largest annual conference of progressives” — panelists suggested that Zionism was equivalent to white supremacy. The summit sold t-shirts grouping Zionism with racism, sexism, homophobia and anti-Semitism “as maladies to be ‘resisted.’” ADL’s Jonathan Greenblatt condemned both, but the four Democratic presidential candidates who spoke at the summit — Elizabeth Warren, Kirsten Gillibrand, Jay Inslee, and Julian Castro — remained mum on the issue.

When it comes to anti-Semitism, the progressive wing of the Democratic Party seems to be the tail that’s wagging the dog, pushing the boundaries of the acceptable further and further. It is meeting only minimal public resistance from the rest of the party. The losers are, undoubtedly, American Jews, whose safety and standing are being gradually eroded.

There’s not much more to add to that. Omar and Tlaib partnered with a neo-Nazi outfit for their trip, and then have amplified anti-Semitic propaganda to promote themselves. If a Republican member of Congress did that, he’d be reamed for it — and rightfully so. Not only are Democrats tacitly endorsing this with their silence, so is most of the rest of the media with their refusal to cover it honestly. We may not agree with Batya Ungar-Sargon and The Forward often on policy, but she’s clear-eyed about this threat. It’s well past puzzling that her fellow progressives aren’t standing up to the threat.

We can Now Officially Label Ilhan Omar an Anti-LGBT Bigot

The left has made it very clear that no hindrance of the LGBT community should occur in any capacity for any reason. Supporting anything that opposes the LGBT community makes you a homophobic, transphobic, other-phobic bigot who should be shamed into oblivion by the general public.

So Rep. Ilhan Omar should definitely qualify for being the target of the mob’s rage after she failed to condemn the Palestinian Authority (PA) for banning LGBT activists from the West Bank. Right?

….right?

The news from the Jersusalem Post dropped on Saturday that the PA was banning these activists after Al-Qaws for Sexual & Gender Diversity in Palestinian Society planned to gather in Nablus at the end of the month. The PA plans to chase and arrest anyone responsible for these meetings:

Explaining the decision to ban the LGBTQ group from operating in PA-controlled areas, Luay Zreikat, spokesperson for the PA Police, said that such activities are “harmful to the higher values and ideals of Palestinian society.”

Zreikat said that the group’s activities were completely “unrelated to religions and Palestinian traditions and customs, especially in the city of Nablus.”

He accused unnamed “dubious parties” of working to “create discord and harm civic peace in Palestinian society.”

The PA police will chase those behind the LGBTQ group and see to it that they are brought to trial once they are arrested, Zreikat warned. He further appealed to Palestinians to report to the police about any person connected to the group.

Robby Starbuck brought up the fact that the woke squad members Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, the two Muslim members of Congress who have recently made a show of their hatred towards Israel (they call it “criticism” but tomato, tom-antisemitism) would definitely be woke enough to condemn the PA for such a homophobic act.

Spoiler alert: She doesn’t.

In fact, Omar immediately tried to turn the conversation back around toward Israel and it’s “violations.”

No one brought Israel up. That was just a knee-jerk reaction from Omar upon Palestine being criticized. Omar sent out one more tweet, making sure she still seemed woke by saying “we should condemn any effort to infringe upon” LGBT rights, but immediately put the attention back on Israel and it’s “occupation.”

Notice she doesn’t outright say “I condemn the Palestinian Authority for its mistreatment of LGBT peoples.” She doesn’t attempt to publicly convince the PA that what it’s doing is wrong. She doesn’t even tell the LGBT community that she stands with them against this level of state-enforced bigotry.

In the rule book crafted by the left, Omar’s silence is violence. She merely calls LGBT rights human rights, makes no other efforts to convince the PA to stand down or even reinforce her commitment to her woke values, and proceeds to turn the attention to Israel, who wasn’t even mentioned in the first place.

Btw, Israel allows LGBT members to exist within its borders, the PA doesn’t. Omar is siding with an anti-LGBT government.

By every definition of the left, Ilhan Omar is a homophobic bigot.
