In Tweet Denouncing Israel’s Decision, Biden Leaves out Fact That Obama Admin Once Made a Similar Decision

Joe Biden has enjoyed the privilege of consistently being the frontrunner in the vast majority of polling regarding Democratic candidates running for president – even when he wasn’t officially a candidate. But in spite of that, one of the most persistent criticisms of him from the progressive left is that he isn’t “woke” enough.

He found that out the hard way after Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) disingenuously broadsided him at the first debate about his praising working with segregationist Senators back in the 70s in order to get things done, and for his stance at the time on busing. Though he ultimately recovered from her attack, the questions about his “wokeness” have still lingered.

On Thursday, in the midst of the wave of criticisms being directed at Israel from mostly Democrats over the country’s decision to bar BDS proponents Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) and Ilhan Omar (D-MN) entry into their country on security grounds, Biden pounced and seized on the opportunity to win over some of his “woke” skeptics.

Here’s what he tweeted:

Biden left out that something similar also happened under the Obama/Biden administration, where the administration did a little entry barring of their own:

Hot Air‘s Karen Townsend explains in detail:

In that case, the person denied a visa to enter the United States to attend a conference was Michael Ben Ari. The reason given was that, according to the State Department, Ben Ari had ties to a terrorist group. This idea centered around Ben Ari’s conservative views and actions. He follows Kahanism ideology which means he believes that Arabs shouldn’t be living in Israel and shouldn’t have voting rights in Israel. The Kach party has been banned by the Israeli government and the U.S. State Department has labeled it a Foreign Terrorist Organization.

Michael Ben Ari’s denial of entry would fall into the same category as Tlaib’s since both were denied due to their political statements. Yet Biden only voiced objection to one and that happened in the course of his Democrat primary campaign. Biden didn’t personally make the decision in 2012, of course, but I am surprised he weighed in as he did, given the dreadful relationship the Obama administration had with Israel and Prime Minister Netanyahu in particular.

Whether Biden either conveniently forgot or really didn’t remember the Ben Ari denial of entry or not, his tweet denouncing Israel’s decision may not be enough for The Squad and their defenders for a couple of reasons:

1) Biden didn’t tweet about the issue fast enough for some on the left (though he posted on the issue around the same time Tlaib did and within an hour of when Omar did):

2) He noted in his tweet that he had always been a staunch supporter of Israel, which is an absolute no-no in the fever swamps of the activist left.

It would seem that matter how hard he tries, Biden just cannot be “woke” enough for the progressive left. Whether or not that ultimately works to his advantage in 2020 as more people begin to tire of The Squad’s obvious political games remains to be seen.

As Thomas LaDuke wrote Saturday, liberal comedian/TV talk show host Bill Maher absolutely ripped into Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), their supporters, the media, and the BDS movement Friday night for their phony outrage over Israel announcing last Thursday they were barring the two Congresswomen entry into the country.

For background, here’s a recap of how the segment went down, via Fox News:

“It’s a bulls— purity test, BDS is a bulls— purity test by people who want to appear ‘woke’ but actually slept through history class,” Maher said, drawing loud cheers from the audience. “It’s predicated on this notion … I think it’s very shallow thinking that the Jews in Israel are mostly white and Palestinians are mostly brown, so they must be innocent and correct and the Jews must be wrong. As if the occupation came right out of the blue, that this ‘completely peaceful people’ found themselves occupied. Forget about the intifadas and the suicide bombings and the rockets and how many wars.”

The HBO star quoted BDS movement founder Omar Barghouti, who said, “No Palestinian — rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian — will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”

“So that’s where that comes from, this movement. Someone who doesn’t even want a Jewish state at all,” Maher told the panel. “Somehow this side never gets represented in the American media. It’s very odd.”

[…]

“I see why [Omar and Tlaib] don’t get a hero’s welcome,” he added.

Maher continued discussing the BDS issue with the three panelists, which included the Daily Beast‘s Betsy Woodruff, New York Times journalist Carl Hulse and Never Trumper Rick Wilson. Hulse and Wilson are normally not shy about expressing their opinions whether you like it or not, but they showed uncharacteristic restraint for most of this particular segment. Odd.

Watch below:

Tlaib, who loves to warn people who disagree with her to shut-up, demanded a boycott of Maher’s show in response because of course:

“Woke” liberals like Justice Democrats proponent Cenk Uygur are enraged over Maher calling BDS for what it is:

Twitter users read Tlaib the riot act over her lies and her approach to disagreement:

I frequently disagree with Maher. He’s wrong probably 95% of the time. But on the BDS movement, he was spot on. Tlaib can continue to try and shame people on the left and right who dare to expose the poisonous anti-Semitic rhetoric she and Omar use, but that will only make those same people louder.

The aftermath of a publicity stunt gone badly by Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar continued into Friday Night on the show hosted by super-duper progressive icon, Bill Maher. His once a week HBO show “Real Time With Bill Maher” usually is a launching pad for attacks on Trump or anyone supporting him.

Occasionally though he throws a curveball and last night was one of those nights.

    From The Hill…

Liberal commentator Bill Maher on Friday night went after the international movement to boycott Israel, calling it a “bullshit purity test” for Democrats after the Israeli government said it would deny entry to two U.S. congresswomen because of their support for the boycotts.

Maher drew applause in studio on his HBO show after declaring the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement supported by some congressional Democrats “a bullshit purity test by people who want to appear woke but actually slept through history class.”

“It’s predicated on this notion, I think – it’s very shallow thinking – that the Jews in Israel, mostly white, and the Palestinians are browner, so they must be innocent and correct, and the Jews must be wrong. As if the occupation came right out of the blue, that this completely peaceful people found themselves occupied,” he said.

As I covered here yesterday Rashida Tlaib Gives Donald Trump And Benjamin Netanyahu HUGE P.R. Victory this has turned out to be a huge flop as a publicity stunt for BDS. However, Maher touches on a deeper point here that I have not seen many in the mainstream media make.

The very idea that United States CITIZENS who happen to be elected officials are aligned with this movement which is based on pure fantasy is maddening to the logical mind. That Tlaib and Omar are so unskilled at pulling off a publicity stunt likes this pretty much proves Nancy Pelosi’s point from a month back. These Freshman members of the “Progressive Cheer Squad” are not ready for prime time yet.

When you have lost Bill Maher on something you might want to reexamine your whole overall outlook on things if you are a progressive. Luckily for us, these ladies will not do any such thing. They believe their cause is so righteous that they will not spend a moment for introspection on any of us.

Which means more goof-ups for us to watch for at least the next year and a half.

House Democrats have shown time and time again that they will do almost anything to protect The Squad from hurt feelings, even if it means throwing one of their core constituencies under the bus.

Not even 24 hours after Israel announced they would bar Democratic Reps. Rashida Tlaib (MI) and Ilhan Omar (MN) on security grounds, some House Democratic leaders are mulling over ways to punish the two Jewish ambassadors at the center of the “controversy”: Israeli ambassador to the U.S. Ron Dermer and U.S ambassador to Israel David Friedman.

    The Miami Herald reports:

About a dozen lawmakers, including senior Jewish members, began discussions on Friday morning over ways to communicate a “deep lack of confidence and trust” in Israel’s ambassador to Washington, Ron Dermer, and the U.S. ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, according to two sources familiar with the discussions.

The group is weighing issuing a statement of no confidence in Dermer and opening an inspector general investigation into Friedman’s conduct, the sources said.

    […]

“We are reviewing all of our options,” a senior congressional source told McClatchy. “With Dermer, the issue is that there already was a severe lack of trust. But now there is a severe lack of confidence. It is completely unclear that he represents his government given he has made promises that he has not kept and wasn’t clear if he ever had any chance of keeping.”

The Democratic lawmakers include Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Eliot Engel of New York and Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Nita Lowey of New York.

Another issue the Herald reported Democrats had with Dermer was the release of Omar’s and Tlaib’s planned itinerary:

Adding to their concern over Dermer’s handling of the congresswomen’s visit, Democrats were further angered after the Israelis released Omar and Tlaib’s planned itinerary and a letter from Tlaib in a public justification of the move. That action raised concerns over whether U.S. lawmakers can trust their communications with Israel’s embassy will remain private going forward.

As for Friedman, Democrats say they have similar concerns:

The group of Democrats is also considering action against Trump’s ambassador to Israel, who issued a public statement defending Israel’s decision on Thursday, citing the country’s laws against the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement. Both Omar and Tlaib support the BDS movement.

In the morning talks, lawmakers recalled a 1975 incident in which Henry Waxman, a longtime Democratic congressman from California, was banned from Saudi Arabia after listing his Jewish background on his visa application. The State Department intervened at that time in order to ensure all members of Congress could conduct business on behalf of the government, and Waxman was allowed in.

Friedman is breaking with that precedent, they argue, by failing to stand up for members of Congress.

Let me try to unpack this to give a better idea of just how absurd and self-defeating this is for Democrats to consider doing.

First, do not a single one of them – the Jewish members especially – not see the glaring difference between Waxman being banned from Saudi Arabia over his Jewish background versus Omar and Tlaib being barred from entering Israel because of their stated support of the anti-Semitic BDS movement?

Secondly, releasing the planned itinerary was entirely appropriate as it showed it was not an attempt at breaking bread with Israeli leaders, as Tlaib and Omar had previously suggested. Plus Omar would, hours later, lie about what the visit was supposed to be about:

Thirdly, consider this: Just a few weeks ago the House overwhelmingly passed an anti-BDS resolution. Back in June, the Senate unanimously passed a resolution condemning anti-Semitism, which included a condemnation of boycott efforts (but did not explicitly mention BDS).

Both Tlaib and Omar are on record as supporting, amplifying, and promoting the goals of the BDS movement, a movement that is unquestionably anti-Semitic.

So we’ve gone from formally condemning the BDS movement just a few weeks ago in solidarity with the Jewish community to considering attempts at punishing Jewish ambassadors over Israel’s decision to bar Omar and Tlaib from country – because they were going to use their trip to promote BDS.

To top it off, 2020 candidates for president like Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) are suggesting, with the full approval of Omar and Tlaib, the U.S. pull funding for Israel over what happened Thursday.

It’s almost like the Democrats want to lose in 2020.

As I wrote Thursday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) set herself up for a brutal reality check after she tweeted that Israel’s decision to bar her Congressional Squad pals Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) and Ilhan Omar (D-MN) was an example of “bigotry” and an implied desire for the country to ban Muslims.

To recap, here are the reasons Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave for rejecting Omar’s and Tlaib’s request to visit Israel:

They were entirely valid reasons, of course, based on what we know of both Omar’s and Tlaib’s anti-Semitic history. But to AOC, it was not just a slight against persons of color – it also had to do with the fact that Omar and Tlaib were women. Here’s what she tweeted:

Rep. Liz Cheney (WY) has, since Day One, been unafraid to take various Squad members to task for their falsehoods, recklessness, and outright stupidity. AOC’s Thursday tweet was one of those instances where Cheney had heard enough.

Here’s how Cheney responded to Ocasio-Cortez’s claims:

The Squad’s frequent use of the “WOC” card is well-known and has been called out often by numerous Republican members of Congress including Cheney and Rep. Dan Crenshaw (TX).

It may seem tiresome to keep pointing it out, but it’s important that Republicans continue to do so, if for no other reason than to expose the fraudulent image she’s painted of herself as some fierce feminist superhero able to leap tall buildings and slay any contrarian argument in a single bound.

Trump and Netanyahu Put Bipartisan Support for Israel at Risk

WASHINGTON — By pushing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel into barring an official visit by the first two Muslim women in Congress, President Trump is doubling down on a strategy aimed at dividing the Democratic Party and pushing some Jewish voters into the arms of Republicans.

But people in both parties warn that over the long term, the president could further erode bipartisan support for Israel, which has long relied on the United States as its most important ally.

In the run-up to his 2020 re-election campaign, Mr. Trump has spent months attacking the two freshman Democrats, Representatives Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, angering the Democratic Party as he seeks to paint Republicans as Israel’s only true friend in Washington.

He has also marched in lock step with Mr. Netanyahu, who faces legislative elections in a few weeks. Mr. Netanyahu’s hard-line settlement policies and rigid bond with ultra-Orthodox Jews have also alienated Democrats, including many American Jews, posing a threat to the bipartisanship that has been fundamental to the two countries’ relationship since Israel’s founding in 1948.

If Israel becomes a partisan issue in the United States, advocates warn that there could be negative consequences for both countries. Israel’s security would be severely undermined without the political, economic and military support that flows from bipartisan backing in Washington. And if Israel is weakened, so too is the United States’ position in the Middle East, which is always stronger when both parties are behind it.

“You have a situation where Netanyahu is relying on Trump to help him in his re-election, and Trump is expecting Netanyahu to reciprocate,” said Martin S. Indyk, a former ambassador to Israel under President Bill Clinton. Mr. Trump’s election strategy, he said, was to paint Ms. Tlaib and Ms. Omar as the “face” of a Democratic Party that is anti-Israel because the two women have been critical of the country.

In a string of Twitter posts on Friday evening, Mr. Trump said just that, writing that Ms. Tlaib and Ms. Omar “are fast becoming the face of the Democrat Party” and that Ms. Tlaib had behaved “obnoxiously” toward Israel.

The bond between Israel and the United States has long been rooted in what Aaron David Miller, a veteran Middle East negotiator for both Republican and Democratic administrations, calls “a confluence of interests and values,” such as free speech and an open society. The cancellation of the congresswomen’s trip, he said, raised questions about those shared values.

Ms. Tlaib and Ms. Omar both support the boycott Israel movement and had planned a four-day fact-finding tour that was largely centered around examining the condition of Palestinians under Israeli occupation.

Tensions deepened on Friday, when Ms. Tlaib rejected an offer by Israel to allow her to visit her grandmother, who lives on the West Bank, on humanitarian grounds, switching course after she had agreed in writing not to “promote boycotts against Israel” during her trip. Ms. Tlaib’s reversal under pressure drew criticism from Mr. Trump, who said on Twitter that she had “grandstanded.”

“There is a perception, right or wrong, true or untrue, that the Netanyahu administration and the Trump administration are working hand in glove,” said Mark Mellman, the president of Democratic Majority for Israel, a nonprofit that works to ensure that the Democratic Party remains pro-Israel.

Israel’s stance, Mr. Mellman said, has made his task harder. “In our hyperpartisan world,” he said, “the friend of my enemy is my enemy, and to the extent that Democrats look at Trump as the enemy, if they see Israel or the Netanyahu administration as operating hand in glove, that gives them real pause.”

Mr. Netanyahu made clear his affinity for the Republican Party long before Mr. Trump moved into the White House. His relations with President Barack Obama were so strained that in 2015, in a rare breach of protocol, he circumvented the White House in accepting an invitation to address the Republican-led Congress. Representative Nancy Pelosi, then the Democratic leader, called the address an “insult” to the United States, and dozens of Democrats skipped it.

With Mr. Trump in office, the Netanyahu-Republican alliance has only strengthened. Mr. Trump’s policies, including moving the American Embassy to Jerusalem and recognizing Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights (where Mr. Netanyahu named a new town after Mr. Trump in June, erecting a sign with his name in gold block letters), have made him more popular in Israel than he is at home. When the president pushed Mr. Netanyahu to bar entry to Ms. Omar and Ms. Tlaib, he was effectively calling in a favor.

Even the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, the powerful and assiduously bipartisan pro-Israel lobbying group known as AIPAC, has split with the Netanyahu government on its decision. AIPAC typically backs Israel no matter who is in power, but its view is that while presidents and prime ministers come and go, support for Israel in Congress is essential.

“What is the one mantra of the pro-Israel organizations for 30, 40 years?” asked William Kristol, a conservative critic of Mr. Trump who fought Mr. Obama’s policies toward Israel. “It’s congressional support. Presidents have their own views, but Congress is the core. So to pick a fight with members of Congress, which is going to force half of Congress to rally to their defense, is really foolish.”

While support for Israel among congressional Democrats remains strong, polls show that support has long been slipping among Democratic voters. A survey last year by the Pew Research Center found the partisan divide in support for Israel was at its widest in four decades, with 79 percent of Republicans sympathizing with Israel in its dispute with the Palestinians, versus 27 percent of Democrats.

That is evident on the presidential campaign trail, where Democrats once vied to see who could be the most supportive of Israel. Now, some are vying to see who can be the most critical. Beto O’Rourke, the former Texas congressman, recently called Mr. Netanyahu a “racist.” Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont accused the Netanyahu government of “racism” and proposed using American aid to Israel as leverage to change its policies.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi in March at the AIPAC conference in Washington. The pro-Israel lobbying group split with the Netanyahu government on its decision to bar an official visit from two Democratic members of Congress.CreditJose Luis Magana/Associated Press

Matt Brooks, the executive director of the Republican Jewish Coalition, which aims to woo Jews to the Republican Party, said it was wrong to lay the dwindling Democratic support at the feet of Mr. Trump and Mr. Netanyahu.

“When you have a leading Democratic presidential candidate like Bernie Sanders who can call the prime minister of Israel a racist and nobody says anything, you tell me who’s responsible for it,” Mr. Brooks said. “We have a president who is the most pro-Israel president ever in history.”

Traveling to Israel is a rite of passage for members of Congress, especially freshmen. Representative Kevin McCarthy, the Republican leader, and Representative Steny H. Hoyer, the Democratic leader, held a joint news conference in Jerusalem on Sunday, along with dozens of members, in a show of bipartisan support.

“We understand the importance of this relationship,” Mr. McCarthy said then. “We understand undeniably the bond that has to be maintained, and you have that support in the House.”

Both men urged then that Ms. Tlaib and Ms. Omar be allowed to visit. When Israel refused, citing what officials viewed as the congresswomen’s one-sided itinerary, Mr. McCarthy issued a careful statement on Twitter saying they should have come with their colleagues, and that it was “unfortunate that a few freshmen members declined to join this opportunity to hear from all sides.”

As Mr. Trump and his fellow Republicans have sought to portray themselves as the only party for American Jews, Democrats in Congress have gone to great lengths this year to show their support for the Jewish state and to isolate Ms. Tlaib and Ms. Omar.

Last month, the House overwhelmingly passed a resolution condemning the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement against Israel, known as B.D.S. After Ms. Omar criticized AIPAC in remarks that were widely construed as anti-Semitic, Democratic leaders called on her to apologize — she did — and the House later passed a resolution condemning hatred of any kind.

But the Israeli government’s decision to bar the two women has strong supporters of Israel like Representative Josh Gottheimer, Democrat of New Jersey and no fan of Ms. Tlaib and Ms. Omar, taking issue with the Jewish state. Mr. Gottheimer, a centrist, called Israel’s decision “a serious, strategic mistake.”

Mr. Trump and Mr. Netanyahu have also helped turn Ms. Tlaib and Ms. Omar into victims in the eyes of the liberal left. That has energized the progressive wing of the Democratic Party, which is already deeply critical of the Netanyahu administration, and thrust Israel policy into the center of the 2020 electoral debate.

“Trump and Netanyahu are enabling one another to make Republicans the go-to party on Israel and Democrats the devil, eroding the bipartisanship that is so critical to the U.S.-Israel special bond,” said Mr. Miller, the former Middle East negotiator. “It is not yet fatal. But a few more years of the Trump-Netanyahu experience and it may well be.”

“There is a perception, right or wrong, true or untrue, that the Netanyahu administration and the Trump administration are working hand in glove,” said Mark Mellman, president of Democratic Majority for Israel, a nonprofit that works to ensure that the Democratic Party remains pro-Israel.

Israel’s stance, Mr. Mellman said, has made his task harder. “In our hyperpartisan world, the friend of my enemy is my enemy, and to the extent that Democrats look at Trump as the enemy, if they see Israel or the Netanyahu administration as operating hand in glove, that gives them real pause.”

Mr. Netanyahu made clear his affinity for the Republican Party long before Mr. Trump moved into the White House. His relations with former President Barack Obama were so strained that in 2015, in a rare breach of protocol, he circumvented the White House in accepting an invitation to address the Republican-led Congress.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi at the AIPAC conference in Washington in March. The pro-Israel lobbying group split with the Netanyahu government on its decision to bar an official visit from two Democratic members of Congress.CreditJose Luis Magana/Associated Press

Matt Brooks, executive director of the Republican Jewish Coalition, which aims to woo Jews to the Republican Party, said it was wrong to lay the dwindling Democratic support at the feet of Mr.

Representative Kevin McCarthy, the Republican leader, and Representative Steny Hoyer, the Democratic leader, held a joint news conference in Jerusalem on Sunday, along with dozens of members, in a show of bipartisan support.

How the “Public Relations” wheel spins round and round.

As I mentioned here yesterday in my piece here at Red State , I was worried that while Israel had every right to ban people coming into their country, they would get smeared P.R. wise.

    From my article…

Pelosi is going to have to walk a fine line here. The one HUGE advantage she has is that Donald Trump has already mixed it up with these two. The media will run with picking on people of color nonsense and that he got Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to play along.

While I had people arguing with me about the point, I still stand by it. Everything is run through a P.R. lense and if you want to win the war you better understand these battles. Just saying it doesn’t matter is not enough and quite frankly wishful thinking.

Well, what a difference 24 hours can make.

One of the stated reasons for this visit was for Congressperson Rashida Tlaib to visit her 90-year-old Grandma. As she stated in her request for a humanitarian waiver from the Israeli government she may never get to see her Granmum again who resides in the West Bank of Israel.

(Sorry folks, there is no Palestine. You can blame the body double to former Beatle Ringo Starr, Yasser Arafat, for that debacle.)

As my colleague Bonchie covered here earlier today in this piece Rashida Tlaib Shuns Her Own Grandmother To Trash Israel maybe she was not expecting that waiver to be granted.

That request was granted by Israel with the only condition being that she not promote BDS. Within hours though, Tlaib had changed her mind.

    Think about what she’s saying.

Her position is that she values promoting the anti-Semitic BDS movement so much that she’d rather let her grandmother die before visiting her if it means not getting to savage Israel for a few days. Who thinks like this?

    Oops.

    That backfired quickly.

I’m going to run with the theory that they believed not only would Israel block both of them from going to protest but also block the humanitarian request. When the government of Israel granted her request to visit her Grandmum she was put in a position she NEVER anticipated and she had to come up with some screwball excuse.

Yet that worked perfectly in favor of Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu from a P.R. standpoint.

Yesterday they ganged up on some harmless ladies just wanting to go on a tour of the Holy Land. Today with Tlaib scrambling to come up with an excuse for NOT visiting her 90 yr old Matriarch she turned the whole narrative around.

In less than 24 hours. That is Trump-like impressive in terms of running a news cycle.

I can’t wait to see what the ladies of the “Progressive Cheer Squad” come up with next to do to not only try to knock Trump down a notch but also give Nancy Pelosi such a splitting headache she might send them overseas and not allow them back into the country. Which would be very Trump-like also and be another P.R.victory for POTUS 45.

    God Bless America.

A flashback that isn’t: EU set to require warning labels on Jewish products

Westlake Legal Group NaziYellowStarsonJews715 A flashback that isn’t: EU set to require warning labels on Jewish products trade The Blog Israel holocaust European Union EU

Some Americans may find modern day concerns about anti-Semitism and anti-Israeli sentiment overblown, especially if they haven’t experienced some centuries of religious discrimination.

Such concerns typically appear when Israel is in the news, as it is this week by denying entry to a pair of Muslim congresswomen. Ed wrote about that controversy here.

Now, comes the European Union with a clever idea to add consumer warning labels to products from Israel as being from that Jewish state. No, seriously.

Of course, this is not the first time Jews have been singled out for such public alerts.

In Germany and Eastern Europe in the 1930’s and ’40s the Nazis forced Jews to wear yellow stars of David on their outerwear as a public humiliation and isolating tactic to deter others from having any contact. Before that, the Russian tsar required Jews to wear animal skins as head coverings, an intended humiliation.

The Advocate General of the European Court of Justice recently issued an opinion that EU law requires Israeli-made products be labeled as originating from “Israeli colonies” or “settlements.”

    As the Free Beacon reported:

The decision was seen as a major win for supporters of the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement, or BDS, which seeks to wage economic warfare on Israel and its citizens.

Pro-Israel activists, as well as Jewish businesses involved in the legal dispute, see the decision as an ominous warning sign they say is reminiscent of Holocaust-era boycotts of Jewish businesses.

The Court’s 15-member panel is poised to issue its binding ruling. But that threatens to ignite U.S. anti-boycott measures intended to protect Israel from international discrimination.

And it could prompt additional discriminatory labeling requirements by the EU and other countries on goods from more disputed territories.

Brooke Goldstein, a human-rights lawyer, said, “Could the discrimination be any clearer?”

The ruling stipulates that items made by Muslims must be labeled as coming from ‘Palestine’ while products made by Jews must be labeled as coming from ‘Israeli colonies.”

Goldstein warned such a ruling would become a nightmare for European importers and an  invitation for labeling requirements  by innumerable others.

She added, “If the EU Court justifies this bigotry, it will degrade the rule of law in Europe and it will undoubtedly have many unintended consequences for EU traders.”

Washington Post Claims That Israel Barring Terror Sympathizers From The Squad Is Great For Democrats

The decision by the Israeli government to ban a couple of rabid anti-Semites with strong links to a terrorist front organization from leading their own special little congressional delegation to try to incite more conflict in the West Bank and Gaza has spawned a small industry of profoundly bad hot takes. Most of them look something like this:

or the shrill, high-pitched, spittle-flecked version

Some are long winded and remarkably stupid

These all operate on the dishonest premise–and I say dishonest to give the benefit of the doubt because you’d have to be an utter dolt to not look at their itinerary–that Omar and Tlaib were going to meet with any Israelis. They weren’t. You can’t debate and win over people who are traveling to your country to give aid and comfort and some measure of political legitimacy to terrorists.

This, however, is one of the worst. It is bad because it it not only stupid but it is lazy.

    How exactly does this work?

First, it was disrespectful to the U.S. Congress, which has been a consistently stalwart friend of Israel. Setting aside the foreign policy views of these two congresswomen, U.S. congressional delegations should not be denied entry anywhere. Period.
…By denying them entry, Israel has turned its U.S. opponents into martyrs and distracted attention from their wrongheaded views rather than bringing them out into the open. I was actually looking forward to their trip, thinking it was going to produce a real headache for Democrats.

It is disrespectful of anti-Semites and terrorist sympathizers, for sure. To the extent people with those proclivities, in addition to the usual sexual deviancies, constitute a significant proportion of the Democrat party, it might be construed as being disrespectful of Democrats but Congress is actually a bit larger than that and there is scant evidence that very many people actually care that Tlaib and Omar were denied entry. After all, they declined to join a very large congressional delegation, 41 Democrats led by Steny Hoyer, that visited Israel just a couple of weeks ago in favor of their own little melodrama.

This is all sheer numbskullery. But now on to the real attention getter. How this hurt the GOP. Because, you see, to a casual observer one would think that ripping the mask off a couple anti-Semitic fascists by revealing their agenda and then publicly shaming them…to the extent either is capable of feeling shame, I mean, once you’ve married your brother you’ve sort of proven yourself to be impervious to conventional social pressure…and by then having the leadership of the Democrat party defend them, you’ve gone a long, long way to making Omar and Tlaib the public face of the Democrat party. But, my friend, you don’t play 8 dimensional chess like a card-carrying member of the GOPe would, a view point that lets them always snatch defeat from the slobbering jaws of victory.

The Democratic Party has a troubling strain of anti-Semitism running through it in greater force than at any other time in my memory. Britain’s Labour Party has a similar problem right now, but U.S.-Israeli ties are so tight that it is a bigger problem in Washington. But Israel’s shortsighted move allows the 2020 Democratic presidential candidates to score points by defending this half of “the Squad” instead of being on the defensive for the wild things they may have otherwise said during their visit to Israel. I am sure all of the candidates who hope to be President Trump’s opponent in November 2020 are breathing a sigh of relief.

Denying Omar and Tlaib a platform to visit the country they have both maligned was a mistake. It did them a service, not Israel…

This is nonsense. Pelosi and Hoyer and other prominent Democrats have had to defend them to placate the party’s Jacobin wing. Those defenses, juxtaposed with the hideously anti-Jewish and anti-America rhetoric those two churn out will blanket the airwaves during election season.

Israel did the right thing by making it clear that it will not admit people who are sworn to its destruction. Omar and Tlaib made a conscious choice to parrot rhetoric that falls shockingly close to al-Qaeda’s statements on Israel. They get to reap the benefits of being terror apologist. This probably isn’t going to hurt either Omar or Tlaib as they come from safe districts. But to think that this will hurt the GOP and help Democrats doesn’t even rise the level of stupid but, then, it is coming from a GOPe guy so that is baked it.
