That Jeffrey Epstein Story Sure Died a Quick Death and the Reason Is Obvious

FILE – This July 27, 2006 arrest file photo made available by the Palm Beach, Fla., Sheriff’s Office shows Jeffrey Epstein. Epstein, a wealthy financier and convicted sex offender, has been arrested in New York on sex trafficking charges. Two law enforcement officials said Epstein was taken into federal custody Saturday, July 6, 2019, on charges involving sex-trafficking allegations that date to the 2000s. (AP Photo/Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office, File)

Last week, news was exploding about the arrest and subsequent charging of Jeffrey Epstein, a serial pedophile and sexual abuser who had previously been let off via a sweetheart plea deal back in 2007.

Epstein’s news making ability wasn’t just about his crimes though. It was about who he was connected too, namely much of the rich and powerful in New York. The most serious contact appears to have been with Bill Clinton, who not only traveled many times with Epstein, but was also fingered on his “pedophile island” in the Caribbean by a victim.

As I wrote last week, Clinton is absolutely the most implicated major figure here and every investigative reporter that has any integrity left should be digging deep on this topic.

Every investigative journalist worth their salt should be diving deep into the Clinton and Epstein connection because it’s a flashing red light right now. Instead, we get side-stepping pieces like this one from Vanity Fair riffing about fairly irrelevant connections to Trump while ignoring the most disturbing revelations. Whether they are meaning to or not, the media are helping to cover for some really bad actors by refusing to shift their partisan rancor and follow the evidence.

That was wishful thinking though. On Friday, I tweeted this out with all the cynicism I could muster, opining that now that Sec. Acosta (the only figure with any connection to Trump) had resigned, the story would die a quick death.

Was I right? Absolutely.

The story has vanished. It’s like it never happened. We went from wall to wall coverage to radio silence, with only a few buried pieces on his finances seeing daylight. As long as Sec. Acosta was still around, the media had their hook to tie this all to Donald Trump, despite him having no serious relationship with Epstein and any possible malfeasance by prosecutors occurring over a decade before his presidency.

But when Acosta resigned at the end of the last week, that was it. The hook was gone. They couldn’t readily tie it to Trump anymore so they dropped it. This despite the fact that we know Bill Clinton lied about his interactions with Epstein in his press release on the matter.

Has any mainstream media outlet followed up on this? Anyone questioned Bill Clinton in person? Staked his house out? Stalked him in public to make him answer? Would any Republican ever be left alone over something as sensational and disturbing as the revelations about Clinton’s connections to Epstein? Of course not.

We’ve got a former President implicated in a sexual abuse scheme, on the flight logs with the underage girls, and visiting an island known for its sex trafficking…and no one outside of right wing media cares. CNN isn’t talking about, nor the major networks or newspapers. It doesn’t even appear any of those outlets are looking into it. It’s a total blackout.

What this shows is that the media never really cared about the women who were abused. It was always just another way to slap at Donald Trump. When that was no longer possible, they moved onto the next Trump outrage. It puts the moral vapidness of their profession on full display.

BBC Caves To Iran, Won’t Report On Iran On BBC Persian

Westlake Legal Group iran-nuke2-620x412 BBC Caves To Iran, Won’t Report On Iran On BBC Persian Media journalism Iran Front Page Stories Featured Story Censorship bbc persian BBC Allow Media Exception

In pushing a media blackout of coverage within its borders, the Republic of Iran set conditions on BBC, essentially telling them they can’t report on anything happening Iran’s borders on BBC Persian.

The BBC agreed to the terms, angering workers at the station.

Yashar Ali of Huffington Post reported on the agreement, noting that it is a “capitulation to a government that has been hostile to press freedom.

The email, sent Saturday to all BBC Persian staff by a BBC Persian digital editor, said that BBC foreign correspondent Martin Patience and his team were in Iran “and due to leave on Sunday.”

The email goes on to say, “It is absolutely imperative that none of their material is run on BBC Persian TV, Radio or Online now or in the future. That includes any official BBC Persian social feed retweeting or forwarding the coverage. Please do not use the material and stories produced in Iran on any platform or in any format.”

It’s unclear who at the BBC agreed to the exclusivity terms.

The BBC responded to the Post:

All international media are subject to reporting restrictions in Iran. We accepted some limitations on this occasion in order to provide our audiences with rare insights from inside the country and this is signposted in our coverage. As ever, the BBC maintains full editorial control over what we broadcast. These reports – our first from inside Iran in 5 years – do not change our unwavering commitment to our BBC Persian staff and their families, who have suffered completely unacceptable harassment from the Iranian authorities since 2009.

According to Ali’s reporting, the revelation of the agreement with Iran has angered BBC Persian staff, who have been targeted by Iran in the past. The capitulation comes two years after Iran targeted current (at the time) and former BBC Persia staff by freezing their assets.

In 2017, the Iranian government froze the assets of 152 current and former BBC Persian staff.  Iran also opened up a criminal investigation into the 152 individuals and accused them of a “conspiracy against national security.” BBC Persian staffers have been subjected to death threats by the Iranian government, haven’t been able to return to Iran for fear that they will be arrested, and their family members living within Iran have been subjected to harassment and threats from the Iranian government.

In 2017, the BBC filed a complaint with the United Nations, stating, “This is not just a campaign against BBC Persian staff but against fundamental human rights, and the BBC calls on the government of Iran to end this legal action immediately,” Tony Hall, the director-general of the BBC said, at the time.

The BBC appears to have changed its tune and is now being fully compliant with the Iranian government’s efforts to censor coverage within its borders. Staffers at BBC Persian feel the agreement is just further persecution of them and their jobs.

Journalism, when done right, is supposed to shine a light on the good and the bad of the world. It isn’t meant to hide what’s going on. The BBC is allowing Iran to hide what’s going on with this decision, and it’s making a mistake in doing so. It’s a shame that they have decided to capitulate here.

Confirmed: The ‘Trump Is Delaying the Harriet Tubman Bill Because Racism’ Narrative Was Totally Bogus

Social Media Politics North Carolina Media journalism Harriet Tubman Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story Featured Post fake news donald trump democrats Culture Allow Media Exception

Remember the controversy stirred up by the New York Times last month about how the Trump administration was deliberately delaying the rollout of the Harriet Tubman $20 bill because racism? As it turns out, the report was bogus all along, according to officials from President Obama’s administration.

Fox News reports:

After Democrat lawmakers and commentators spent months hammering the Trump administration for supposedly delaying the release of a $20 bill featuring abolitionist Harriet Tubman, several officials appointed by President Barack Obama have reportedly admitted that Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has followed the Obama timeline for producing the new currency.

The Obama administration said [in] 2016 that it wanted to remove Andrew Jackson from the $20 bill and replace him with Tubman, who helped free slaves through the Underground Railroad, and that the bills would be ready in 2020. But a current “high-ranking government official” appointed by Obama, as well as a former official, confirmed to The Washington Post that the Tubman bill had “had “always been scheduled for release toward the end of the next decade.”

Obama Treasury Secretary Jack Lew’s 2016 claims that a “final concept design” of the bill would be released in 2020 were viewed with skepticism internally, according to the report. Larry R. Felix, the director of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing from 2006 to 2015, told The Post that too much security work needed to be done to realistically release the bill in 2020.

“Those announcements were not grounded in reality,” Felix said. “The U.S. had not at the time acquired the security features to redesign and protect the notes.”

Trump’s Treasury Dept. pushed back on the reports in June, noting the reasons for the delay in the rollout of the bill:

BEP Director Len Olijar, an Obama appointee, also issued a statement at the time which read, in part:

“As technology has evolved, banknote production has vastly changed over the last three decades. The next family of notes require new, overt and covert security features for the public, the banknote equipment manufacturers, and the central bank, to keep our currency safe and secure. Security features also need to work in mass production. A design can change during testing. The overwhelming success of the redesigned $100 in thwarting counterfeiting, is greatly due to the effectiveness of the blue security thread which is a public feature (and which a design was integrated around afterwards). That development alone of that security feature took approximately 10 years to finalize.

“Moreover, BEP was never going to unveil a note design in 2020. To keep our currency safe and secure, it is unwise to give counterfeiters a look at a potential future note far in advance of a note going into circulation. Additionally, if the concept of a note that was made public by the government were to change during that lengthy amount of time, it would create confusion in the global marketplace, further aiding counterfeiters.”

But those explanations were not good enough for The Usual Suspects like the frauds at the Southern Poverty Law Center, who blasted off about how the delay in the Tubman bill equated to more “racism” and “misogyny” from Trump, etc etc.

Will they walk back those false narratives now that news outlets they find reliable (like the Washington Post) and numerous officials from the Obama administration are confirming the Tubman bill was always going to be delayed? Don’t count on it.

After Pelosi-AOC Fight, Liberal NY Times Columnist Suddenly Finds Race Card Tactic Offensive

Westlake Legal Group Untitled-2-1-620x317 After Pelosi-AOC Fight, Liberal NY Times Columnist Suddenly Finds Race Card Tactic Offensive Social Media Politics NY Times North Carolina New York Nancy Pelosi Media maureen dowd journalism Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story Featured Post democrats Culture Congress AOC Allow Media Exception Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

On Friday, I wrote about how the Congressional Black Caucus played the “let me show you how it’s done” game with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) after she insinuated in a Wednesday interview that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA) was singling out the Queenie Quartet because they were “women of color.”

As it turns out, all this race card playing back and forth has really upset New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd, whose interview with Pelosi a few weeks ago was what set off the AOC firestorm.

We’ll get to that in a minute, but first, a brief recap of what went down Friday – via The Hill:

Congressional Black Caucus members are furious at Justice Democrats, accusing the outside progressive group aligned with firebrand Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) of trying to oust lawmakers of color, specifically African American lawmakers.

[…]

“It just seems strange that the social Democrats seem to be targeting members of the Congressional Black Caucus, individuals who have stood and fought to make sure that African Americans are included and part of this process,” Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.), a senior CBC member, told The Hill.

“I don’t know what that agenda is, but if they want to come after members of the Black Caucus, it’s two ways,” warned Meeks, the Queens Democratic Party boss who clashed with Justice Democrats in a local district attorney race last month.

Meeks’s “it’s two ways” comments were in reference to Ocasio-Cortez playing the race card against Pelosi just two days prior:

“When these comments first started, I kind of thought that she was keeping the progressive flank at more of an arm’s distance in order to protect more moderate members, which I understood,” Ocasio-Cortez told the Post.

“But the persistent singling out … it got to a point where it was just outright disrespectful … the explicit singling out of newly elected women of color,” she added.

In response to the escalation in the public infighting between the two camps, Dowd wrote a column Saturday in which she noted she had suddenly discovered how harmful leveling false accusations of racism against someone is:

Pelosi told me, after the A.O.C. Squad voted against the House’s version of the border bill and trashed the moderates — the very people who provided the Democrats the majority — that the Squad was four people with four votes. She was talking about a legislative reality. If it was a knock, it was for abandoning the party.

That did not merit A.O.C.’s outrageous accusation that Pelosi was targeting “newly elected women of color.” She slimed the speaker, who has spent her life fighting for the downtrodden and who was instrumental in getting the first African-American president elected and passing his agenda against all odds, as a sexist and a racist.

A.O.C. should consider the possibility that people who disagree with her do not disagree with her color.

Gee, ya think?

Dowd continued, condemning another tactic frequently used by the Queenie Quartet: The “You’re putting my life in danger with your dissent” tactic:

The young lawmaker went further, implying that the speaker was putting the Squad in danger, asking why Pelosi would criticize them, “knowing the amount of death threats” and attention they get. Huh?

[…]

The progressives act as though anyone who dares disagree with them is bad. Not wrong, but bad, guilty of some human failing, some impurity that is a moral evil that justifies their venom.

It would be truly touching if Dowd had come to these conclusions out of a sincere desire to bury the offensive tactic of falsely playing the race/woman/danger card to silence your opposition. She’s not. The only reason why the accusations from AOC towards Pelosi offended Dowd was because they were a distraction from what she feels should unite them both: Defeating Trump:

In the age of Trump, there is no more stupid proposition than that Nancy Pelosi is the problem. If A.O.C. and her Pygmalions and acolytes decide that burning down the House is more important than deposing Trump, they will be left with a racist backward president and the emotional satisfaction of their own purity.

In other words, it’s ok to play the race card as long as your target is a Republican or conservative.

Liberals are nothing if not predictable.

#Journalism: After “Racist” Trump Tweets, Brian Stelter Brags About CNN’s (Inconsistent) Labeling Standards

The hot takes are flying after incendiary tweets President Trump posted over the weekend about the Queenie Quartet of Democratic Reps. AOC, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Ayanna Pressley, which many on the left, some on the right, and some in the mainstream media have characterized as “xenophobic” and “racist.”

For the back story, Red State‘s Bonchie and Mike Ford had two entirely different takes on Trump’s tweets, which you can read here and here.

It’s the day after now, and CNN‘s Brian Stelter has done an “analysis” of sorts on the media’s coverage of Trump’s tweets. In his newsletter this morning, he bragged about how CNN definitively labeled the tweets in question “racist” and chided other news outlets for the unpardonable sin of allowing readers to draw their own conclusions:

Trump’s racist tweetstorm

President Trump launched a bigoted attack against four minority congresswomen on Sunday morning. His tweets were straight up racist. Did the news media accurately describe it that way?

By and large, no, most major news outlets did not do that. Reporters and anchors took the story seriously but largely leaned on “critics,” primarily Democrats, and cited their accusations of racism. The significance of Trump’s words risked being lost in a partisan fog.

He said/she said is a tried and true journalistic technique, of course, but it is insufficient at a time like this. If telling Democratic congresswomen to “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came” isn’t racist, what is?

There were some exceptions — CNN chief among the news outlets — that called out this example of racism emanating from the highest office in the land in an authoritative, institutional voice. CNN’s banners and headlines said “racist rant” and “racist attacks.”

The headline for CNN‘s primary piece on the tweets was: Trump tweets racist attacks at progressive Democratic congresswomen.

The piece published at CNN this morning by Stelter analyzing the story is basically a reposting of all the “points” he made in his newsletter.

Stelter’s nauseating backpatting of himself and his network would be far more impressive if he and the CNN team applied the same standards to Rep. Ilhan Omar‘s and Rep. Rashida Tlaib‘s unquestionably anti-Semitic remarks that they do to offensive comments made by President Trump.

But they don’t.

Take, for example, this piece from early February, where CNN took great pains to carefully explain why Omar and Tlaib say and do the anti-Semitic things they do:

Omar along with Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, the first two Muslim women to serve in Congress, are indeed changing the conversation on Capitol Hill over the United States’ long-standing relationship with Israel by speaking out critically against the Israeli government over its treatment of Palestinians.

As they challenge the political status quo over Israel in Washington, Omar and Tlaib are facing intense scrutiny and criticism, in particular from Republicans eager to exploit divisions in the Democratic Party.

Got that? Omar’s and Tlaib’s anti-Semitic remarks are “indeed changing the conversation” and “challenging the political status quo” on our country’s relationship with Israel, but not in the way that CNN portrays it (the whole piece was like that, by the way).

Here’s another piece from around the same time:

Freshman Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota publicly apologized Monday after she faced backlash for tweets condemned by both sides of the aisle as anti-Semitic.

[…]

Omar’s statement came on the heels of one from House Democratic leadership calling on Omar to apologize for comments they said included “anti-Semitic tropes.”

Note the qualifiers there. “Condemned by both sides of the aisle as anti-Semitic” – but not definitively declared as “anti-Semitic” by CNN. “They said included ‘anti-Semitic tropes’” – but CNN did not characterize them as “anti-Semitic tropes.”

Stelter noted in his Monday newsletter that “he said/she said is a tried and true journalistic technique, of course, but it is insufficient at a time like this” – yet he found the technique sufficient at a time when Omar and Tlaib were spouting off anti-Semitic tropes with regularity, endorsing anti-Semitic movements, and associating with anti-Semitic figures without apology.

If Stelter were an authentic man of his craft, he’d call out his own network’s duplicitous nature when it comes to using qualifiers to describe controversial comments and demand consistent standards across the board. But he’s not.

Stelter’s media firefighter “standards” are designed only to motivate his fellow journalists to move even further to the left in terms of their coverage and commentary of Trump and Republicans. He does not do this out of any sincere altruistic desire to see the national media earn back any of the credibility and respect they’ve lost over the last several years.

Nice try, Mr. Stelter. But some of us see right through you.

NY Times Buries The Reason For The 28% Drop In June Migrant Arrivals In The Twelfth Paragraph

(AP Photo/Rodrigo Abd)

On Tuesday, the Department of Homeland Security announced a 28% drop in enforcement actions at the U.S./Mexico border in June from the previous month. The number decreased from 144,278 in May to 104,344 in June. The DHS statement said “the reduction in apprehensions accounts for decreases across all demographics, including unaccompanied minors, family units and single adults, as well as decreases in migrants from all Northern Triangle countries, particularly those coming from Guatemala.” (The full statement can be read here.)

This is phenomenal news and it’s proof that President Trump’s “get tough” strategy is working. When the President announced his plan to impose 5% tariffs on all goods imported from Mexico at the end of May, he was widely criticized by Democrats as well as many Republicans. It was a gamble, they said. American consumers would be forced to pay more for imported goods. It would hurt small businesses and reduce GDP.

But Mexico caved and agreed to cooperate with the U.S. to stop the flow of illegals into our country. Anyway you slice it, Mexico’s efforts have made a big difference. Trump took a risk, and it has paid off big time.

The New York Times, however, has a hard time giving Trump credit for any accomplishments, especially as the 2020 election season heats up. So, it’s no surprise they buried the reason for the decline in the twelfth paragraph of their story.

The article is entitled “A Drastic Drop in Migrant Arrivals on the Border: What’s Happening?” The New York Times wrote:

In the sleeping quarters, green cots that were once occupied by hundreds of parents and children on a single night were stacked against the wall. For dinner on Tuesday, just two tables were set for the handful of families staying at the large shelter near the California border that takes in migrant families arriving from Mexico.

At its peak, the facility run by Jewish Family Service of San Diego held more than 300 migrants dropped off by United States immigration authorities. Some days this spring were so busy that new arrivals had to be sent to overflow sites.

Now, the shelter is almost eerily empty. The number of people arriving there has plunged in recent weeks amid a precipitous decline in arrivals along the southern border, where the Department of Homeland Security said that apprehensions dropped 28 percent in June.

Customs and Border Protection authorities encountered 104,344 people crossing from Mexico last month, compared with 144,278 in May, which had marked a 13-year monthly high. At the nonprofit shelter here in San Diego, the effects have been dramatic. On Friday of last week, not a single migrant arrived at the facility, the first time this had occurred since it opened in October.

Hot Air’s Ed Morrisey reported on Wednesday that readers had to scroll down to the twelfth paragraph to find the reason for the decline.

“The United States policy to return people to Mexico and the pressure on Mexico to stop the migration are having a big impact,” said Daniel Bribiescas, an immigration lawyer in Tijuana.”

And even further to find out that incentives work.

Mexico’s own heightened border security is also having an effect. To make good on a deal struck with President Trump last month to avert trade tariffs, more than 20,000 Mexican security forces, including members Mexico’s newly-formed National Guard, have been deployed throughout Mexico’s southern and northern border states.

At well-traveled but typically unguarded crossing points, the Mexican authorities have been intercepting buses traveling along major migrant corridors. In Tijuana, Mexican officers have been stopping and arresting migrants who do not have papers to prove that they can legally remain in the country.

This is a major victory for President Trump and the media have tried to minimize it.

The problem is that, for many Americans, The New York Times and other newspapers and media outlets with left biases are either their only or at least their primary source of news. These organizations manipulate the news by exaggerating bad news for Trump and minimizing or not reporting the positive news. This has been a huge challenge for Republicans.

The New York Times would have you believe that Trump manufactured the migrant crisis. They would have you believe that the Obama administration never put immigrant children in cages, never separated families at the border, never deported any illegals, never teargassed migrants at the border and that none of them ever died trying to cross into the U.S.

The truth is that the Obama administration built the cages that are in use today. PJ Media’s Matt Margolis wrote that not even Snopes could deny this one. “Two former Obama administration officials have publicly acknowledged this fact, and the media even reported on the migrant detention facilities that were built by the Obama administration—but those reports lacked the outrage you see today.”

The Obama administration also established the policy of separating families, they deported over 3.1 million illegals, and were found by a district court judge to be in violation of the Flores Agreement which requires the government to provide safe and sanitary conditions for immigrant minors, including food, drinking water, medical care, and other accommodations.

Also, according to the left-wing fact-checking site FactCheck.org, between the years 2012 through 2016, they used teargas on migrant crowds 79 times.

The good news is that some Americans have become wise and now seek out alternative news sources. This accounts for the fact that CNN’s ratings have cratered recently and MSNBC has seen a significant drop in readership.

Let’s hope that continues.

4th of July Ratings Fireworks for Fox News While CNN and MSNBC Went Off Like a Wet Fuse

Maybe shooting off mouths like a firecracker was a bad choice?

Last week we witnessed a great deal of contemporary distemper from the news networks. Many of the characteristics we have now accepted as norm from them came together. Derangement with the President, and avoidance of facts, and the desire to make themselves the centerpiece of the news all came together in a curious bout of illogic.

When President Trump announce the level of military presence he desired for the celebration festivities in D.C. for the 4th of July the press reacted like howler monkeys. They made all manner of imbalanced comparisons, from Russian style missle parades to tanks rolling over dissidents in Tiananmen Square. All that, over the desire to include the military in a celebration.

In a wholly unneeded response the news came from the news networks that they were making the decision to not broadcast the celebration, in response to…well that part was a touch unclear. But the news nets, apart from Fox News, all declared they would not show what they deemed to be “Trump’s Military Parade”. While may in journalism circles and across social media loudly applauded the decision Fox News quietly turned around and pumped its fist.

And it was for good reason. The ratings for the event have come in and to little surprise Fox News dominated the day. Not just dominated; it trounced the virtue-signaling competition. As the network covered the day’s events the measured audience in the 6:30-7:30 segment was massive. Fox enjoyed an audience of 4.65 million viewers. The numbers were especially stark for a number of metrics.

For one, that number nearly tripled the combined total from both CNN and MSNBC in that segment. CNN relented only slightly, and showed some of President Trump’s speech, while MSNBC was obstinate and played re-run content. They saw an audience of just 1.5 million, and 374,000 respectively.

That 4.65 million figure for Fox was not just huge, but historic. It held onto a large audience at a time when there is actually a downfall during the holiday. Instead Fox saw a continued audience surge through the night, experience an average of well over 2 million viewers, matching its usual audience in that slot. That means Thursday was setting a primetime record for the network on the July 4th holiday.

This means that as the competitors were petulant with a “That’ll show him” attitude, Fox decided to show the event, and it reaped the rewards in the process.

On Monday, NBC News broke what some media and political commentators viewed as a blockbuster story about Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) involving the slave-owning history of some of his ancestors.

The report centered around searches done of McConnnell’s family history by way of “ancestry and census records.” Here’s what they found:

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who said recently he opposes paying government reparations to the descendants of American slaves, has a family history deeply entwined in the issue: Two of his great-great-grandfathers were slave owners, U.S. census records show.

The two great-great-grandfathers, James McConnell and Richard Daley, owned a total of at least 14 slaves in Limestone County, Alabama — all but two of them female, according to the county “Slave Schedules” in the 1850 and 1860 censuses.

The details about McConnell’s ancestors, discovered by NBC News through a search of ancestry and census records, came in the wake of recent hearings on reparations before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties. Asked about the reparations issue, McConnell, R-Ky., said he was opposed to the idea, arguing it would be hard to figure out whom to compensate.

Even if you hadn’t read the story itself, the headline and subheadline to it tell you all you need to know about why the story was done in the first place: To shame the Senator for taking what the news network views as a conveniently calculated position against reparations:

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) was incredulous that NBC News even found this to be newsworthy:

Former Red State managing editor Erick Erickson – now the editor at The Resurgent, called this story out for what it is:

There literally is no journalistic or newsworthy purpose for this article except to apply pressure on McConnell to not block slave reparations legislation. There is none. As the article itself notes,

Louis Cain, professor emeritus at Loyola University Chicago and an expert on the economics of slavery, said more Americans have been stained by slavery than they realize. “I suspect with the mobility of the American population in the 20th and 21st centuries, most of us have ancestors that owned slaves, including many individuals who did not arrive until well after the Civil War,“ Cain said. “The responsibility for what happened was collective, not individual.”

This completely undermines the purpose of the article. If the responsibility is collective, singling out McConnell is ridiculous, but that’s exactly what NBC News is doing because it is not reporting news. It is working to advance the hucksters’ reparations agenda.

Similar point made here:

Bingo.

The journalism community – both inside and outside of NBC, were quick to share, write up their own versions, and/or praise the report and defend the journalists behind it from accusations of an agenda.

Here’s NBC News digital reporter Jon Allen trying to justify the report:

Tim Perone is an assistant managing editor for NBC News digital:

Here’s NBC News correspondent Morgan Radford, in one of the more obvious displays of agenda-driven journalistic commentary:

Move along, no agenda to see here.

Clay Travis notes that the Louisville Courier‘s headline was arguably worse than NBC‘s:

Key point from John Hayward and others surrounding this story:

And how convenient was the timing of this story? Very, very convenient:

Here are some more burning questions the mainstream media won’t answer about this story:

Related: If the mainstream media are so good at digging into family histories, how did they so badly botch the Sen. Elizabeth Warren fake Native American heritage story?

Doing a quick scan of reactions to the story last night and today on social media and other websites, I was pleasantly surprised to see how many rank and file leftists (not the ones are perpetually outraged) say they didn’t think story was fair to McConnell. ‘Blaming him for the sins of his ancestors isn’t right’ was the key take away I got from much of what I read in comments.

It’s very obvious why the media ran this story. NBC News and their defenders can try to explain it away all they want to, but it’s very clear what the agenda was here – and it wasn’t journalism.

Bonchie wrote over the weekend about how House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA) was fed up with the BFF freshman squad of Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY), Ilhan Omar (MN), Rashida Tlaib (MI), and Ayanna Pressley (MA).

In an interview she did with New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd, Pelosi downplayed the influence The Squad had on policy decisions made by House leaders, insinuating they were more interested in Governing by Twitter than actually getting things done in Congress.

In particular, the San Francisco Democrat was not pleased that the four of them banded together to vote against the border humanitarian aid bill.

Naturally, the Four Amigas were not happy that their childish tantrums were called out by the House’s leading Democrat, and three of them fired back on Twitter in response.

In the middle of all of their attempts at accusing Pelosi of being insufficiently woke, one Washington Post journalist attempted to step up to the plate in defense of the Freshman Four, suggesting that they had more influence on policy in the House than the Speaker was willing to give them credit for:

Tlaib retweeted Stein’s first tweet.

While Stein was praised by the Radical Four’s sycophants, he was also given a reality check by others:

While it’s true some of the presidential candidates are discussing AOC’s Green New Deal, it still is going nowhere – even if a Democrat does manage to get elected president. It’s just that several of the candidates running for president are desperate for AOC’s endorsement, and the quickest way they think they can get it is through signing on to some form of the Green New Deal.

Watch them say something completely different in a general election campaign, though. That’s how these things typically work. But in the event they don’t backtrack, Trump is going to have even more of a field day with them – which should make the presidential debates next fall a whole lot more entertaining.

As I wrote this morning, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) took time out of holiday festivities on Thursday to provide some additional context for a provocative tweet sent out out by former NFL QB-turned-social justice warrior Colin Kaepernick.

To recap, Kaepernick quoted a portion of abolitionist and statesman Frederick Douglass’s July 5, 1852 speech about Independence Day. Just reading the singular quote alone, someone who hadn’t read the full speech or who otherwise didn’t understand Douglass’s legacy would get the impression that he didn’t like his country very much:

Sen. Cruz saw the Douglass quote and who posted it, and decided to add some much-needed context:

After noting the quote Kaepernick used was taken out of context, Cruz spent one tweet providing some background on the speech and when it was given, and then sent several tweets quoting directly from the speech. He concluded by encouraging everyone to read the full speech in context.

Cruz providing additional information and direct quotes for Twitter users to digest when considering Douglass’s words did not sit well at all with New York Times editorial board member Mara Gay, who wrote a sneering note to the Senator in response:

Cruz fired back not long after, and I could swear I heard a “boom!” somewhere off in the distance:

Why specifically did Gay take off after Cruz over his series of tweets? Not just because she’s a fan of Douglass’s, but also because she digs Kaepernick – which she made clear in this photo she tweeted out July 4th, about 25 minutes after Kaepernick’s post:

That explains quite a bit.
