Trump Administration Threatens to Pull Funding from Duke University Program for Promoting Islam While Ignoring Christianity

Duke University and the University of North Carolina jointly run a Middle East studies program, and the initiative is now under threat by the Trump administration.

The White House is threatening to pull taxpayer funding from the endeavor, amid allegations of federal funds misuse. What kind? The advancing an anti-Israel bias, aggressively promoting Islam, and ignoring Judaism and Christianity type.

On August 29th, the Department of Education sent a letter to the Duke-UNC Consortium for Middle East Studies designating a due date by which the curriculum must be revised. Otherwise, funding will be pulled.

The program — which received a $235,000 grant last year — states its goal as “[supporting] the development of foreign language and international expertise for the benefit of U.S. national security and economic stability.”

Yet, earlier this year, the Duke-UNC CMES held a conference on the taxpayer’s dime with, according to Republican North Carolina Rep. George Holding, “severe anti-Israeli bias and anti-Semitic rhetoric.”

Fox News reports Education Secretary Betsy DeVos was “troubled” by the event.

As noted the investigation:

There is a considerable emphasis placed on understanding the positive aspects of Islam, while there is an absolute absence of any similar focus on the positive aspects of Christianity, Judaism, or any other religion or belief system in the Middle East.

Some academic papers linked to the program have included “Radical Love: Teaching from Islamic Mystical Tradition” and “Performance, Gender-Bending and Subversion in the Early Modern Ottoman Intellectual History.” Neither, in the view of the Education Department, serve the program’s official purpose.

In fact, as for project’s foreign language aspect, only 960 of the 6,800 participants are enrolled in Middle East language classes.

More from Fox:

Department officials instructed the Duke-UNC consortium, which was founded in 2005 and received the grant nearly a decade ago, to provide a “revised schedule of activities” for the next academic year and explain how each offering promotes foreign language learning and advances national security interest.

One UNC history professor thinks the D of E should mind its own business. VP of the school’s American Association of University Professors chapter, Jay Smith, told the Associated Press the official who signed the letter “should stay in his lane and allow the experts to determine what constitutes a ‘full understanding’ of the Middle East.”

Henry Reichman, chair of a committee on academic freedom under the American Association of University Professors, derided the probe as — here’s some novel joint terminology for ya — “right-wing political correctness.”

Education Dept. head Betsy doesn’t seem to be much of a favorite among Democrats, but some do want her to police things at times: In December, actress-turned-person-sayin’-political-stuff appeared to forget cops exist and asked her to be the new Commissioner Gordon (here).

As per DeVos’s commissioned letter, the schools have ’til September 22nd to turn the program around.

Garvan Walshe: Netanyahu, the great survivor, clings to power – as police investigators wait for him in the wings

Garvan Walshe is a former national and international security policy adviser to the Conservative Party. He runs TRD Policy.

Praised for his command of the English language which, as was once said of Churchill, he arms and sends into battle. Condemned for his utter lack of principle, thwarted by the judiciary and assailed by allegations of corruption. Yanked back from the UN General Assembly in New York to confront the most serious political crisis of his premiership…Benjamin Netanyahu must know his time might, finally, be up.

Last week, Israel voted in its second elections of 2019.  Netanyahu himself, having engineered the do-over after polls held in April led to a tie, now finds himself in trouble with the law. He is expected to be indicted on October 7. His only hope of avoiding that is, somehow, to remain Prime Minister.

Netanyahu’s success had been built on dividing Israel into two blocs and positioning himself at the head of the larger “right wing” one. This had comprised his own Likud Party; the religious Jewish parties; the Russian-immigrant secularist party, founded by Soviet dissident Natan Sharansky, and now led by Avigdor Lieberman – who we’ll come back to – as well as assorted other nationalists and moderate Likudniks who could never quite manage an entirely independent existence.

This bloc overcame huge differences on domestic policy (between low-tax free marketeers and high-welfare Orthodox Jews; and between secularists and theocrats every bit as hardline as those who rule in Iran) in favour of a hard line towards the Palestinians and tolerance, if not active encouragement, of pro-settlement policies in the West Bank.

With time, this coalition shifted rightwards, admitting Jewish supremacists, and losing the Druze minority and business-minded Israelis.  But it stayed around the same size, allowing Netanyahu to control a small but solid majority of between 61 and 65 seats in the Knesset and keep himself in power.

In April’s election, the opposition united behind an alliance called Blue and White, headed by three former Army chiefs of staff and led by Benny Gantz. As then, Likud and Blue and White are effectively tied (Likud had one extra seat last time; Blue and White this time).

But Israel’s pure proportional represenation encourages small parties, which in Israel range from the Jewish nationalist (but pro-cannabis legalisation) Zehut, to the Arab nationalist Balad, which contests elections as part of the Joint List (a majority Arab alliance with no particular emphasis on drug policy).

The requirement is to assemble a coalition by picking one side of each of Israel’s major social divides: right and left on national security policy; religious Jewish voters who want welfare benefits for large families, exemptions from military service for their sons and enforcement of the sabbath; and secular voters who resent paying higher taxes for the privilege of not being able to go shopping on Saturday); Arabs and Jews, and even within the Arab community betweeen Arabs who accept, acquiesce in and oppose the state of Israel.

Until this year, Netanyahu had placed himself on the profitable side of these divides. Arabs, he notoriously said in 2014 were “voting in droves”, as he called on his Jewish nationalist suppoters to support him.

But this year his careful balancing of divisions began to fail. First, the religous parties demanded too much, pressing on with restricting the opening of supermarkets on Saturdays and exemptions from military service for their children. Then a new centrist party (which took pains to avoid being classified as “Left”) led by three former army chiefs of staff, was formed, which could not be impugned on matters of security, and which gained the attention of voters on the Centre-Right. Finally, the stench of corruption surrounding Netanyahu (he is the subject of three separate police investigations) has put further voters off.

It was Lieberman who spotted this opportunity. He prevented Netanyahu from forming a government in April, and campaigned on a position of supporting a coalition between Likud, Blue and White, and his own party, provided that such a coalition excluded Netanyahu. It paid off, and he increased his representation in the Knesset from five to eight seats.

The effect was to leave neither Ganz or Netanyahu with enough seats to govern. In these circumstances, it falls to the President to ask the party leaders to attempt to assemble a majority, and President Rivlin, though formerly a Likud member, has had a rivalry with Netanyahu so extreme that Netanyahu even sought to have the presidency abolished so that Rivlin couldn’t occupy it.

It is at this point that Gantz has taken an unusual step back, and allowed Netanyahu first dibs at forming a government. This is a major risk, because Netanyahu is a famed dealmaker, and desperate to do any deal that keeps the police investigations away. Strategic patience is thought to be a military virtue – but it could equally prove to be Gantz’s fatal mistake.

Dot-Connecting on Some Very Important News Stories

Westlake Legal Group TruthImage2-620x333 Dot-Connecting on Some Very Important News Stories Supreme Court News Never Trumpers Middle East Media Mainstream Media leaks Judicial journalism Israel Iran Government Front Page Stories Foreign Policy Featured Story fake news donald trump democrats Courts corruption Corrupt Democrats collusion biased media Abuse of Power

There are a lot of seemingly random events happening lately. Are they truly random, or might there be nefarious purposes behind at least a few of them? Let’s take a look. Here’s a list of some “breaking news” items over the past week or so; are they all they seem to be on the surface, or is the reality being purposely obfuscated?

  • The Left via a NY Times hit piece are going after USSC Brett Kavanaugh yet again.
  • The Israelis were accused of planting spying devices around the White House.
  • The legacy media claimed that the CIA had to pull a spy from Russia because @POTUS was a security risk.
  • A Saudi ARAMCO facility was attacked using Iranian-produced weapons, possibly by Iranian proxies or by Iran itself.
  • The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) arrested a senior intelligence officer for allegedly stealing sensitive documents. Nearly concurrently, Justin Trudeau was exposed in more ways than one – multiple instances of (to use the Left’s jargon) “cultural appropriation.”
  • Andrew McCabe stated during a CNN interview that he would refuse to take a plea deal under any circumstances if indicted.
  • Big Democrat donor Ed Buck was arrested for distributing methamphetamines resulting in death.
  • An intelligence community whistleblower complaint was publicized by the WaPo that questioned a supposed promise made by @POTUS to a foreign leader.

Let’s examine each one and see it we can connect a few dots. First off, the Kavanaugh smear. This was a perfect example of the Leftist Hive in operation: a media hit-piece echoed everywhere, Democrat Star Wars bar scene candidates and others in Congress and the media demand his impeachment, etc. A false NY Times report was derived from a book, and the guy behind it all was on Bill Clinton’s defense team during impeachment proceedings while Kavanaugh was working for Special Counsel Ken Starr. Those are just coincidences, right? The Democrats want us to believe that!

The accusations in the NYT article were immediately debunked (the “accuser” refused to come forward and be deposed by the FBI). And this article seals the deal.

Then there is this report that one of those bearing false witness during the Kavanaugh hearings last year was coerced to do so by the Democrat cabal led by Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-CA). This whole article is VERY interesting and is highly recommended!

Why did this story break now and not during the Senate hearings? What’s the Democrats’ game plan? This is all about them de-legitimizing the US Supreme Court because there are a number of very important cases that will be decided in the next session, and the Left fear the results from a conservative-leaning court. Their 3+ decades of practicing lawfare through the federal courts is crashing down, as POTUS is appointing conservative federal district and circuit court judges at a rapid clip to replace leftists who have usurped their authority and legislated from the bench for years.

In past years, confirmed USSC judges were left alone after being confirmed, but the Left have upped the ante by going after Kavanaugh again! They’ve got nothing – no witnesses, no evidence – only false accusations and innuendos. This is all about de-legitimizing Kavanaugh and thereby the court itself, which will allow the Left to claim that any USSC decisions that go against their politics are “tainted” and to be ignored. This is pretty much analogous to how Democrat-run California ignores federal immigration laws now.

I’ve got news for Democrats and their media lick-spittle: more false accusations aren’t going to move the needle in the direction you want it to move. In fact, it will do the reverse as more and more reasonable people see it as just another high-tech lynching (ode to Clarence Thomas).

Moving on to purported Israeli spying on the White House et al. Here’s one of the stories that broke that news. Note this phrase in the very first sentence of that article: “according to three former senior U.S. officials with knowledge of the matter.” I mean, really! How many times are we supposed to fall for that gambit (unnamed sources)? If we’ve learned anything in the Age of Trump it’s that, unless the sources are named, the articles in the legacy/left media are purposely anti-Trump and bogus. The list of #FakeNews stories is long! Those “unnamed sources” could easily be former Obama Administration people. Or, they could have been NeverTrumpers who’ve been fired or resigned and have grudges. Regardless, I simply don’t believe ANY anti-Trump legacy media story that doesn’t name its sources. Period!

Secondly, the timing of this article is entirely suspect, as it was released right before an important Israeli election. We know that Obama’s crew tried to unseat Netanyahu previously by working with his opponents, as noted here. This latest action smells like more of the same. The Obama crowd views Netanyahu as a major roadblock to restoring the failed JCPOA deal with Iran, and they’d like nothing more than to remove him from power. This was very likely the real purpose for that article!

The next “bombshell” was an accusation –reported by a former Obama administration hack, no less, and much-repeated throughout the legacy media – that the CIA extracted a Russian spy due to “wide concern in the intelligence community about mishandling of intelligence by Trump and his administration.” Yeah, right. Here’s the typical anti-Trump spin by a guy who’s been sliming @POTUS since early 2016.

Well, not so fast! Virtually as soon as the CNN report was published, even the NY Times reported that the spy was recalled even before President Trump took office. Furthermore, the CIA issued this extraordinary statement slamming the CNN report:

The Central Intelligence Agency on Monday evening slammed what it called CNN’s ‘misguided’ and ‘simply false’ reporting, after the cable channel’s chief national security correspondent authored a hole-filled piece claiming that the CIA “had pulled a high-level spy out of Russia because President Trump had ‘repeatedly mishandled classified intelligence and could contribute to exposing the covert source as a spy.’”

Read the rest here.

It was a false report, and yet that former Russian spy was virtually doxed by the legacy media, with his private address publicized for all the world to see. Hmmm. Maybe there’s more to this than meets the eye. This guy was supposedly “close to Putin,” yet he provided no information about Putin’s foreign policy objectives in Syria or with respect to Iran but supposedly confirmed that Putin directed the meddling in the 2016 election? Riiiiiight.  More likely, this was yet another false-flag misdirection to take the heat off Andrew McCabe, whose lawyer’s attempts to get the DoJ to not prosecute him for various crimes was turned down at about the same time this spy story popped up. It was also doubtless intended to keep the “muh Russia” hoax alive in support of Nadler’s “impeachment inquiry” (or whatever the Democrat/media euphemism for their continuing witch hunt is called these days).

Next was the drone and missile strike on two of Saudi Arabia’s ARAMCO facilities in Abqaiq and Khurais. This was a coordinated attack by 25 drones and missiles that put half of Saudi Arabia’s oil production capacity out of business until repaired. Refer to this for more.

The Iranians of course claimed innocence, but the weapons were Iranian-built, and the level of sophistication in the attack, as well as intelligence gathered subsequently from multiple sources, pointed squarely to Iran.

This attack was part of a continuing attempt by Iran to start a kinetic war because the sanctions are drastically affecting the IRI’s ability to pay salaries of the IRGC, internal security forces, and proxy terrorist groups around the region. They’re trying to split off European support for those sanctions, and a war would help do the trick. Given that the EU and even the Chinese are the ones dependent on Middle East oil (the US is a net exporter thanks to @POTUS!), that strategy won’t work. And we know that there are former Obama regime people like John Kerry and Ben Rhodes providing advice on strategy to the Iranians, too. There are a lot behind-the-scenes Logan Act violations that have happened over the past few months.

POTUS hasn’t taken the bait; there are numerous reports of devastating non-kinetic attacks on the Iranian oil industry, as well as another ratcheting up of sanctions on Iranian financial transactions.

How about that senior RCMP intelligence official being arrested for selling secrets? And then, suddenly, Prime Minister Trudeau made “’cultural appropriation” headlines? Are the two stories linked in some way? Here’s a Canadian Global News excerpt that broke the spy story:

Cameron Ortis faces seven counts dating as far back as 2015, including breach of trust, communicating “special operational information,” and obtaining information in order to pass it to a “foreign entity.” Ortis was identified when U.S. authorities “flipped” a suspect who gave him up. His arrest is believed to be part of a wider operation involving NATO allies and the Five Eyes — Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the U.S. and U.K.

Read more about it here.

There are lots of possibilities here. Ortis could have been spying for China (he speaks Mandarin) or Russia or multiple parties. Remember that FVEY spies were almost certainly part of the foreign element of #Spygate that is slowly being unraveled, too.

Nearly concurrently, we learned that Justin Trudeau wore black/brown-face several times “in his youth.” Now why would these two stories break just now when certainly the Trudeau story had to have been previously known? The Canadian election is right around the corner on 21 October. Could these stories be aimed at taking out Trudeau? Could the arrest be the Canadian intel services fighting back against their own corrupt Deep State actors in a manner similar to the exposure of #Spygate?

Some have even speculated that these two stories are part of the ephemeral anti-globalist coalition led by @POTUS pushing back on globalist actors in Canada and elsewhere. That speculation isn’t too far-fetched, especially now that the DoJ OIG’s FISA abuse report is in final review.

Next were the unsurprising statements made by Andrew McCabe during a CNN interview that he would “under no circumstances” take a plea deal with the DoJ. Yes, yes, the crook insists on maintaining his innocence until the bitter end. Gotta keep the GoFundMe $$ coming in! There’s an embedded video of the interview in this article, which describes the matter fairly well; the man is lying through his teeth.

He’s already been referred for prosecution by the DoJ OIG in the Clinton email scandal (that was what his lawyers were begging the DoJ to not indict him for), and the much more serious offenses – and a likely referral – will be forthcoming resulting from the FISA abuse report. He, the rest of the cabal, and their media allies are working overtime to keep the “muh Russia” hoax alive in support of Democrat attempts to “impeach” the president. Sorry, Andy; we’re onto your game BIGLY! Can’t wait for the referral from the OIG on FISA abuse!

Then there was the arrest (finally!) of big Democrat donor Ed Buck in LA on a charge of “distributing methamphetamines resulting in death.” Here’s the criminal complaint filed in California.

It’s SHAMEFUL, if not a complete cover-up, as this is at least the third time around for this guy (two men previously OD-d, and the third one survived to report the incident leading to Buck’s arrest).

Questions abound; here are some of them. Why wasn’t he charged previously after either or both of the two deaths? To which California Democrats (and others) did he donate money? How well does Adam Schiff know him, and how much did he receive from Buck? He donated a lot to the Obamas and Hillary Clinton; what do they say about Buck now, and will they return the contributions? This story is nowhere close to being over.

Finally, there is the evolving story about a supposed “whistleblower” from the intel community who claimed that @POTUS made a “very disturbing promise” to a foreign leader during a phone call. Except that we have subsequently found out WAAAAAY more about the story. We have learned that the whistleblower did not have first-hand access to the transcript of the phone call, nor did he/she have any of the context for that call. Part of that context included an above-board series of contacts between Ukraine and Trump adviser Rudy Giuliani THAT WAS INSTIGATED BY THE US STATE DEPT! Now check this next part out carefully from a recent article:

According to interviews with more than a dozen Ukrainian and U.S. officials, Ukraine’s government under recently departed President Petro Poroshenko and, now, Zelensky has been trying since summer 2018 to hand over evidence about the conduct of Americans they believe might be involved in violations of U.S. law during the Obama years. The Ukrainians say their efforts to get their allegations to U.S. authorities were thwarted first by the U.S. Embassy in Kiev, which failed to issue timely visas allowing them to visit America.

Then the Ukrainians hired a former U.S. attorney – not Giuliani – to hand-deliver the evidence of wrongdoing to the U.S. attorney’s office in New York, but the federal prosecutors never responded. The U.S. attorney, a respected American, confirmed the Ukrainians’ story to me. The allegations that Ukrainian officials wanted to pass on involved both efforts by the Democratic National Committee to pressure Ukraine to meddle in the 2016 U.S. election as well as Joe Biden’s son’s effort to make money in Ukraine while the former vice president managed U.S.-Ukraine relations, the retired U.S. attorney told me.

Read the rest here.

Did you catch all of that? The Ukrainians have apparently got the goods on Obama, Biden, the DNC, and others but were prevented by Deep State operatives from turning that evidence over to the DoJ, and somehow a “whistleblower” accuses @POTUS of making an “improper promise” during a phone call? Talk about reality turned inside-out! Even former CIA analyst and now CNN contributor Phil Mudd crapped all over the whistleblower and Congress, as noted here.

What we’ve got here is REAL foreign collusion – by Democrats! – being covered up by Deep State operatives, including trying to shift the blame onto POTUS and away from the Bidens (and others) who have MUCH to answer for regarding Ukraine! And of course, the legacy media are spinning furiously to protect the Democrat front-runner, when it’s already on the public record that he bragged about blackmailing the Ukrainians to fire a prosecutor looking into Hunter Biden’s “business contacts” (actually, bribery or extortion) in the Ukraine!

I predict that Ukraine will be Joe Biden’s political Waterloo. There is more coming out on this story, and the legacy media won’t be able to spin it away. Get ready for Fauxcahontas to top the Democrats’ Star Wars bar scene leader board, folks!

That concludes some dot-connecting on a number of very interesting stories of late. What’s the common thread throughout? All are bad news for Democrats, and the attacks against the President in particular are boomeranging BIGLY! Shades of Trumpenfreude! Some people are getting desperate, and none of them are named Trump or Trump’s allies!  What do you think?

The end.

Trump’s National Security Aides to Meet on Possible Iran Options

Westlake Legal Group 19dc-prexy-sub-facebookJumbo Trump’s National Security Aides to Meet on Possible Iran Options Yemen United States Defense and Military Forces United Nations Trump, Donald J Saudi Arabia Middle East Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps Iran General Assembly (UN) Esper, Mark T Dunford, Joseph F Jr Defense Department

WASHINGTON — Senior national security officials from across the government are scheduled to meet Thursday to refine a list of potential targets to strike in Iran, should President Trump order a military retaliation for missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabian oil fields last weekend, officials said.

Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper and Gen. Joseph F. Dunford Jr., the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, are to present the updated options to Mr. Trump at a National Security Council meeting scheduled for Friday, a senior American official said.

In advance of being presented with the newest set of options, Mr. Trump has sent different signals on his intentions. He has threatened to order “the ultimate option” of a strike on Iran to punish the nation for its behavior, but also has made clear his continued opposition to ordering the United States into another war in the Middle East.

The Pentagon is advocating military strikes that one senior official described as at the lower end of options. The official said that any retaliation could focus on more clandestine operations — actions that military planners predict would not prompt an escalation by Iran.

These kinds of targets could include the sites where Iran launches cruise missiles and drones, and where the weaponry is stored. Under this scenario, the military option would include a diplomatic outreach campaign at the United Nations General Assembly in New York next week to muster support for the additional sanctions that Mr. Trump has ordered and other nonmilitary steps. Mr. Trump has said new sanctions against Iran will be put in place. A range of covert cyberoperations is also being discussed.

[A military strike against Iran would result in “an all-out war,” Iran’s foreign minister said Thursday.]

It remains unclear, though, whether the United States and Saudi Arabia could muster strong support at the United Nations, since the Saudis have been criticized for waging a war in Yemen that has caused civilian casualties and since Mr. Trump has faced strong criticism for pulling the United States out of a multilateral nuclear deal with Iran.

But the senior American official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations, warned that Mr. Trump would also be presented with other options that are stronger, options that would require dispatching more forces to the Persian Gulf region.

The official offered no details on those targets, but presumably they could include Iranian oil facilities or targets involving Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps. Mr. Trump’s contradictory statements on Wednesday left senior Defense Department and military officers guessing about which course of action the president would choose.

Several issues might delay any immediate military action, officials said. First, Saudi Arabia is said to fear that any military response could rapidly escalate and lead to further attacks against the kingdom and its vulnerable oil facilities.

Another issue is that American military forensic specialists have only arrived in the past couple of days at the site of the attacks in Saudi Arabia. Their analysis of circuit boards recovered from one of the cruise missiles — which could provide valuable clues about the missile’s trajectory and flight path — is still underway. That information could be important to making a case as to who is responsible for the attacks.

Politico Reports That Israel Placed Spy Devices Near White House, Then Mark Levin Reveals A Stunning Coincidence

Westlake Legal Group Screen-Shot-2018-06-27-at-12.30.14-PM-620x350 Politico Reports That Israel Placed Spy Devices Near White House, Then Mark Levin Reveals A Stunning Coincidence President Trump Politico Middle East Mark Levin Mainstream Media Liberal Elitism Front Page Stories Featured Story fake news donald trump Bibi Netanyahu Barack Obama Allow Media Exception Abuse of Power

On Thursday, Politico reported that Israel had “likely” planted “mysterious” spy devices near the White House. Their source? “Several former top U.S. officials.”

The article is entitled “Israel accused of planting mysterious spy devices near the White House.” The lede reads, “The likely Israeli spying efforts were uncovered during the Trump presidency, several former top U.S. officials said.” It can be read here.

According to Politico: (emphasis mine)

The U.S. government concluded within the past two years that Israel was most likely behind the placement of cellphone surveillance devices that were found near the White House and other sensitive locations around Washington, according to three former senior U.S. officials with knowledge of the matter.

But unlike most other occasions when flagrant incidents of foreign spying have been discovered on American soil, the Trump administration did not rebuke the Israeli government, and there were no consequences for Israel’s behavior, one of the former officials said.

The miniature surveillance devices, colloquially known as “StingRays,” mimic regular cell towers to fool cellphones into giving them their locations and identity information. Formally called international mobile subscriber identity-catchers or IMSI-catchers, they also can capture the contents of calls and data use.

The devices were likely intended to spy on President Donald Trump, one of the former officials said, as well as his top aides and closest associates — though it’s not clear whether the Israeli efforts were successful.

Trump is reputed to be lax in observing White House security protocols.

Based on a detailed forensic analysis, the FBI and other agencies working on the case felt confident that Israeli agents had placed the devices, according to the former officials, several of whom served in top intelligence and national security posts.

Their source said, “It was pretty clear that the Israelis were responsible.”

An Israeli Embassy spokesperson, Elad Strohmayer, denied the allegations, calling them “absolute nonsense.” He said, “Israel doesn’t conduct espionage operations in the United States, period.”

A senior Trump administration official told Politico that “the administration doesn’t comment on matters related to security or intelligence.”

Trump was questioned about this story by reporters and said he found it hard to believe. “I don’t think the Israelis were spying on us. My relationship with Israel has been great…Anything is possible but I don’t believe it.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also denied the story. “We have a directive, I have a directive: No intelligence work in the United States, no spies. And it’s vigorously implemented, without any exception. It [the report] is a complete fabrication, a complete fabrication.”

Aha. Here we go. Politico writes:

But former officials with deep experience dealing with intelligence matters scoff at the Israeli claim — a pro forma denial Israeli officials are also known to make in private to skeptical U.S. counterparts.

One former senior intelligence official noted that after the FBI and other agencies concluded that the Israelis were most likely responsible for the devices, the Trump administration took no action to punish or even privately scold the Israeli government.

“The reaction … was very different than it would have been in the last administration,” this person said. “With the current administration, there are a different set of calculations in regard to addressing this.”

The former senior intelligence official criticized how the administration handled the matter, remarking on the striking difference from past administrations, which likely would have at a very minimum issued a démarche, or formal diplomatic reprimand, to the foreign government condemning its actions.

“I’m not aware of any accountability at all,” the former official said.

The former official explains many reasons why Israel would want to spy on the US. He says it would give them an edge in their diplomatic maneuvering with the US. He adds that “the Israelis are pretty aggressive. They’re all about protecting the security of the Israeli state and they do whatever they feel they have to to achieve that objective.” The source tells the writer numerous stories about Israel’s “brazen spying.”

Finally, the writer speaks to Daniel Benjamin, a former Obama State Department official, who relates even more stories about Israel’s aggressive tactics.

Politico must have taken some heat for the article because thirteen hours after it was published, an update was added which said:

This article has been updated to clarify that Daniel Benjamin had no knowledge of the alleged Israeli spying, and that the Israeli official he was speaking with was a former official at the time of their conversation.

Former US attorney, writer and talk show host Mark Levin joined Sean Hannity on Thursday night. They discussed a media report that the cell phone of former General Benny Gantz, Netanyahu’s opponent’s in the upcoming election, had been compromised by the Iranians. Levin noted that, had it been Netanyahu who’d been reckless with the security of his cell phone, the Israeli press would be in an uproar. The Israeli media is as notoriously left-wing as the US media and it treats the Prime Minister with disdain.

Levin picks up a copy of the Politico story. He says, “Politico is a left-wing news site that former Obama officials love to leak to.” He looks at the sources cited in the article. “Three former government officials, in other words, Obama appointees. Obama appointees planted this. They put it on an American news site in order to try to create hostility between our President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu who are very close. In fact, Trump and Netanyahu are as close as any president and prime minister have ever been.”

(Note: Both Ben Rhodes and Joel Benenson write for Politico. Rhodes served as Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications in Obama administration. Benny Gantz is Netanyahu’s current opponent.)

He continues:

Follow this. Ben Rhodes, he was close to who? Joel Benenson. Who’s Joel Benenson, America? He was a strategist for Obama in 2008 and 2012 in his campaigns, a strategist for Hillary Clinton in her 2016 campaign. Who is he a strategist for now? Benny Gantz and the Blue and White Party.

Trump Wants Big Diplomatic Wins. Here Are the Odds.

WASHINGTON — John R. Bolton has left the Situation Room, and President Trump is left at the table with a giant set of chips set on hot spots around the world.

In Mr. Trump’s view, the clock is ticking: He needs some big victories between now and the election in November 2020. But he also wants to prove that his idiosyncratic approach to foreign policy — as a series of deals rather than a philosophy of how American hard and soft power is deployed — can produce results that have eluded Washington’s foreign policy establishment for a decade or more.

Here’s a look at six issues on the table.

Ask Mr. Trump about his negotiations with Kim Jong-un, the North Korean leader, and he will tell you he is already winning: He was the first American president to meet a North Korean leader — three times now — and the first to step, briefly, into North Korean territory. He has gotten back the remains of American soldiers and won a pause, which has lasted nearly two years, in nuclear weapons and intercontinental ballistic missile tests. It all led Mr. Trump to declare on Twitter, after his first meeting with Mr. Kim in Singapore, that North Korea was “no longer a Nuclear Threat.”

The only problem is that the North’s nuclear ability has increased since that meeting, by some estimates significantly. Intelligence estimates indicate that the North’s stockpile of fuel has swelled, and so has its missile arsenal. Short-range missile tests have improved Mr. Kim’s ability to strike American bases in South Korea and Japan with a new generation of weapons intended to avoid missile defenses. And the North hasn’t turned over a list of its weapons, missiles and facilities, which was supposed to be the first step.

Mr. Trump remains convinced that Mr. Kim will be impressed by the prospect of new hotels on the (heavily mined) beaches of North Korea’s east coast. The whole country, he notes, is a great property, with easy access to China, Russia, South Korea and Japan. The only issue is whether he can persuade his new friend to give up the weapons that, in the North Korean leader’s view, have kept him in office. That may mean settling with partial steps — starting with a nuclear freeze — on the way to a bigger deal that may or may not happen.

Prospects for a win: Next to none, unless Mr. Trump changes the goals. It is more likely he will agree to incremental reductions and call it a victory.

To the Trump administration, there is no more existential threat than Iran. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo sees it as the source of virtually all trouble in the Middle East, and Mr. Trump kept insisting to a series of aides that the only way to get a good deal with Iran was to destroy the 2015 nuclear agreement, which he dismissed as “terrible” and a giveaway because it did not forever ban Iran from making nuclear fuel.

Mr. Bolton, who before joining the administration was an advocate of American-led regime change in Iran, was an enthusiast of the “maximum pressure” campaign. And indeed it has been more successful than most experts expected. Iran’s oil revenues have plunged, its economy is shrinking and some of its elites are beginning to wonder whether it’s time to acknowledge the inevitable, which is to negotiate with a president they can’t stand.

All eyes are on the opening of the United Nations General Assembly in 10 days. Mr. Trump and even Mr. Pompeo have said they are ready to negotiate without preconditions, and could meet with President Hassan Rouhani of Iran.

“I do believe they would like to make a deal,” Mr. Trump said on Wednesday. “If they do, that’s great. If they don’t, that’s great, too.”

He insisted the goal remained the same. “They never will have a nuclear weapon,” he said. “If they are thinking about enrichment, they can forget about it.”

The wild card here is Mr. Rouhani because he is unwilling to meet until sanctions are lifted, or so he says.

Prospects for a win: Not bad. The Iranians have a long history of changing their minds and negotiating when there are no other options. And unlike North Korea, they have no nuclear weapons, so they have less to give up.

Every time Mr. Trump goes to Camp David, he sees pictures of Jimmy Carter, whose cabin-to-cabin diplomacy in 1978 brought peace between Israel and Egypt. Some aides think that inspired Mr. Trump to invite the Taliban — who gave haven to Al Qaeda to plan the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks — to the presidential retreat. Mr. Bolton’s argument that this was a crazy idea precipitated this week’s rupture.

But it’s hardly over. The “peace deal” Mr. Trump is touting isn’t the Camp David accords. It would call for a “reduction in violence” and the beginning of a dialogue about power sharing between the Taliban and the American-backed Afghan government of President Ashraf Ghani. Few think it will lead to true peace. But it may be enough to give Mr. Trump the chance to significantly reduce the number of American troops in Afghanistan.

Prospects for a win: Fairly high. The only people who want American troops out more than Mr. Trump are the Taliban.

Mr. Trump miscalculated when it came to challenging President Xi Jinping of China: He thought Mr. Xi would fold as tariffs took their toll. So far, Mr. Xi has not folded, and market jitters are a reflection of the fear that the world’s two largest economies could tank simultaneously.

The bigger problem facing the Trump administration is that after nearly 32 months in office, it has no integrated China strategy.

Mr. Pompeo and many in the military establishment view Mr. Xi, the most powerful Chinese leader in decades, as determined to spread the country’s influence through Africa, Latin America and, increasingly, Europe — and to use its technology, led by Huawei-produced networks, to exercise control. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and other members of the economics team are convinced that Mr. Xi, in the end, will take the best economic deal he can.

And Mr. Trump, forever seeking flexibility, gyrates between these two posts, sometimes declaring China’s progress on 5G networks, artificial intelligence and quantum computing a national security threat, and at other times suggesting that supplying those efforts is up for negotiation.

Prospects for a win: Poor. Mr. Xi is playing a long game, and Mr. Trump is playing for November 2020.

The president and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, have taken two years to study Middle East peace — “the deal of the century,” Mr. Trump called it — and when they revealed the first part of the plan, it was all about getting wealthy Arab states, among others, to invest tens of billions of dollars in the Palestinian territories, as well as in Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon.

But key decision makers avoided the conference, and with Israel in the midst of its own campaign season, the political side of the plan won’t be released until after the election — if then. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pre-empted the whole proposal this week with his pre-election promise to annex nearly a third of the occupied West Bank — reducing any future Palestinian state to an enclave encircled by Israel.

Prospects for a win: On life support. No evidence supports the idea that Mr. Kushner will succeed where others have failed.

President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia this month. Mr. Trump pushed for Russia to be allowed back into the Group of 7, despite the country’s annexation of Crimea.CreditMikhail Klimentyev/Agence France-Presse — Getty Images

Alone among his foreign policy advisers, Mr. Trump believes the key to dealing with Russia is reintegration, letting the country back into the Group of 7, forgiving (or ignoring) its annexation of Crimea and never mentioning its effort to influence the 2016 election, a charge he has dismissed as a “hoax.”

Meanwhile, the Pentagon is gearing up for a fundamental shift in policy in which Russia and China are regarded as “revisionist” states that must be challenged. And the F.B.I., the Department of Homeland Security and the National Security Agency say they are constantly creating plans to counter Russian malign influence in the 2020 election.

Mr. Trump argues “there is no reason for this,” and says that with a little help to the Russian economy, President Vladimir V. Putin would be a lot easier to deal with. With Mr. Bolton gone, Mr. Trump may well try to negotiate an extension to the New START treaty, the last remaining arms control agreement between the United States and Russia.

But when it comes to lifting sanctions, Mr. Trump has run into a brick wall with his own party, whose leaders say they have no intention of reversing decades of hawkish views on containment.

Prospects for a win: Mr. Trump is not playing poker here — he’s playing solitaire. The only possible victory is an arms control treaty extension.

There’s something about watching ISIS getting blown up that puts a pep in your step and a bit of a smile on your morning.

On Tuesday, the United States military attacked an island said to be “infested with ISIS,” and thankfully but on a show of bombing it. According to the Daily Wire, these types of bombings against ISIS and the Taliban has stepped up as of late:

“We’re denying [ISIS] the ability to hide on Qanus Island,” Maj. Gen. Eric T. Hill, Commander of the Special Operations Joint Task Force, said. “We’re setting the conditions for our partner forces to continue bringing stability to the region.”

“U.S. jets have doubled the amount of bombs targeting ISIS in the past month, according to new strike data released from the U.S. Air Force,” Fox 32 reported. “In Afghanistan, U.S. strikes have also picked up. According to the newly released data, American jets have dropped 28 percent more bombs on Taliban and an ISIS-affiliate in August compared to the previous month.”

Without further ado, here’s the video. Enjoy it with coffee.

This bombing comes after President Donald Trump offered to hold peace negotiations with leaders of the Taliban, but foolishly — and very oddly — tried to give themselves a bargaining chip by killing a U.S. soldier. It’s unclear why they thought that would be helpful for them, and as Trump tweeted out later, it wasn’t.

Trump noted that the attack that took the lives of the soldier and 11 other people only made it worse for themselves, and wondered aloud how many more years they’re willing to fight on.

Trump wasn’t lying in this regard. The Taliban did make it worse for themselves as Secretary of State Mike Pompeo appeared on Chris Wallace’s show on Fox News and said that in response for the taking of one soldier’s life, the American military killed 1,000 Taliban:

So, we’ve made real progress, but in the end, the Taliban overreached. They forgot that America is always going to protect its interests — the commander, the commander of Resolute Support and the NATO forces there are still at this hard. We killed over a thousand Taliban just in the last 10 days.

And while this isn’t a war of attrition, the American people should know we will continue to apply the appropriate pressure to make sure that we’re never struck with terror again from Afghanistan.

The lesson here is plain to see. You can either come to the table and make efforts to be peaceful or continue to fight and die by the thousands.

Between the video and the death count, Trump is displaying the real power of America’s military might to her enemies. Hopefully, it changes some minds, or at the very least, takes some of the fighting spirits out of them.

Today We Say Never Forget But Let’s Be Brutally Honest, We Are Forgetting.

Today the United States of America once again pauses to take a moment to remember the events that reshaped the world on September-11-2001. Hard to believe that it has been 18 years since the purely evil events of that day unfolded. Yet here we are at another anniversary as time marches on.

Most of us will take to facebook and recount “where we were” when the planes struck and what an awful, tragic day that was. We will accompany those posts with memes that say “Never Forget” and then move on to September 12th and live our lives until next year. Which is of course what those who sacrificed their lives and those who were murdered would have wanted for us.

Let me very blunt here though.

We are forgetting and it is showing.

Here are some examples why…

On June 11th 2019 Luis Alvarez went before Congress to talk about the 9-11 victim compensation fund. Alvarez, a retired New York City Police Detective, and 9/11 first responder was there to plead for reauthorization of funds before a House committee.

Here is part of what he said according to Time

A little more than two weeks before his death, Alvarez – who was visibly very ill and thin – traveled to Congress and testified before the House Judiciary subcommittee, urging legislators to extend the fund.

“You made me come down here the day before my 69th round of chemo and I’m going to make sure that you never forget to take care of the 9/11 first responders,” he said. Comedian Jon Stewart testified shortly afterward, chastising Congress for taking years to make the program permanent and condemning the legislators who failed to show up to watch the first responders’ testimony.

At Alvarez’s chemotherapy appointment the following day, medical providers determined that his liver was failing and causing disorientation. Alvarez decided to enter hospice care shortly afterwards.

This hero died 18 days later.

You might have heard about this man and his colleagues going to Congress to ask for this without assistance from someone famous.

You DID hear about it because Jon Stewart had a meltdown, verbally undressing those elected officials for once again dropping the ball of simply keeping a promise. I know some reading this might have thought that Stewart did a bit of an acting job that day, well good for him if he was. He was at least ACTING as he cared on a day that was not Sept-11.

How does a nation that is saying “Never Forget” once a year allow our elected officials to forget those that responded first to these tragedies? They literally saved hundreds if not thousands of lives while giving up their own either on that day or a little bit each moment since, like Detective Alvarez.

“Never Forget” I guess does not apply to the still broken immigration system that this country has 18 years later. This has nothing to do with a wall but how we make sure that those that come here legally, stay here legally.  Five of the 19 hijackers were here illegally when the planes flew into World Trade Center One and Two, The Pentagon and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

According to National Review

Did you remember that five of the 9/11 hijackers — Mohamed Atta, Marwan al-Shehhi, Hani Hanjour, Nawaf al-Hazmi, and Satam al-Suqami — carried out their killer plot after overstaying their visas, evading detection, and avoiding deportation?

Did you remember the other radical Muslim members of the Terrorist Visa Overstayers Club? They include 1997 New York subway bomber Lafi Khalil; 1993 World Trade Center bombers Mahmud Abouhalima, Mohammed Salameh, and Eyad Ismoil; 1993 New York landmark bombing plot conspirator Fadil Abdelgani; convicted Times Square bomb plotter Faisal Shahzad; and U.S. Capitol bomb plotter Amine El Khalifi, whose visa expired in 1999 and who escaped Homeland Security’s notice for 12 years before he was arrested in 2012 — just blocks from the Capitol building donning what he thought was a suicide-bomb vest.

Maybe we forgot.

How about the war in Afghanistan?

The reasons for going into that war were justified. The Taliban were harboring those that trained and plotted the attacks on America that fateful day. President Bush 43 was able to explain that clearly when the United States military invaded in early October 2001.

Now, 18 years later can anyone explain what the mission is and how we “win” this longest battle America has ever been in?

We have paid a heavy price according to Washington Post

The conflict had left 2,400 U.S. service members dead and more than 20,000 wounded; more than 145,000 people in all, including Afghan military, police and civilians, have died, according to a 2018 report from Brown University’s Costs of War Project; America has spent $737 billion on the war.

This doesn’t include the calculation of dealing with the long term effects of those who served in this conflict and the one in Iraq. They need our support just as much as those who stormed the towers on that clear Sept morning almost two decades ago.

Next year we will have High School seniors graduating in the United States of America that were born AFTER the attacks of 9-11. What that means is that the horrible events of that day will only be a recorded event for them much like Pearl Harbor or the Kennedy assassination was for us. Simply saying “Never Forget” will simply be an empty slogan for them unless those of us who watched those terrible events unfold that day make it mean something to them.

We need to be honest with them about what happened on that day and what has happened since.

We need to teach them that anyone with a badge or uniform is not automatically the enemy but people that deserve our respect.

We need to reinforce that there is evil in the world and ignoring it and hoping it goes away will only encourage it to thrive.

We need to teach them that “Never Forget” is not something we should not only do once a year but consistently throughout the year.  We should teach them this by doing it ourselves and showing by example not just by a Facebook post stating where you were for the 1000th time.

We need to ensure that those who rushed into the buildings and the regular folks who were thrust into horrifying circumstances and sacrificed themselves to save others are never forgotten.

Truly, Never Forgotten!!!!

Todd Beamer who was a passenger on United Flight 93 that crashed into Pennsylvania on this day along with some of the other passengers on his flight decided to storm the cockpit and stop their plane from being used as a weapon. Beamers last words as he was talking to a sky phone operator was “Let’s Roll” and he and others saved many lives while giving up their own.

If we do not fight the apathy that is creeping into the remembrances of what this day means during the other 364 days of the year, this country will turn Beamers last words into “Let’s Not” or “Who Cares” and that means, we will ultimately have forgotten.

So let us ban together to “Never Forget” so that “Never Happens”.

Jason Greenblatt, a Designer of Trump’s Middle East Peace Plan, Is Leaving the Administration

WASHINGTON — President Trump’s special envoy for Middle East peace, Jason Greenblatt, will leave the administration, according to a senior Trump official, raising new questions about a long-delayed plan to resolve the Israel-Palestinian conflict.

Mr. Greenblatt has worked closely since early 2017 with Mr. Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner, to design what Mr. Trump has called the “ultimate deal.” But their secretive plan has been delayed for several months, and it is unclear when it will be released — and whether Mr. Greenblatt will be around for the rollout.

Trump administration officials have said that the plan would not be released before Israel’s Sept. 17 election, which would determine the fate of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a close Trump ally who has overseen expansionist policies in the occupied West Bank. The vote, if close, could be followed by months of political jockeying to build a governing coalition, which could further delay the plan’s release.

On Thursday, the Trump official would say about the plan only that “the vision is now complete and will be released when appropriate.”

Mr. Trump had warm words for Mr. Greenblatt on Twitter. “Jason has been a loyal and great friend and fantastic lawyer,” Mr. Trump tweeted, praising his “dedication to Israel.”

By the time the administration’s peace plan is revealed, Mr. Greenblatt, formerly a longtime top lawyer to the Trump Organization, may have returned to private life. He accepted a huge pay cut in early 2017 when he took his White House job at an annual salary of about $180,000. His wife and six children have remained at their home in Teaneck, N.J. It is unclear whether Mr. Greenblatt will return to the Trump Organization after he leaves the government.

The Turnover at the Top of the Trump Administration

Since President Trump’s inauguration, White House staffers and cabinet officials have left in firings and resignations, one after the other.

Mr. Greenblatt will remain on the job “in the coming period,” the Trump official said. The absence of a commitment to stay through the plan’s release is sure to stir doubts about its viability, which many regional experts and officials already doubt will break a decades-long stalemate between Israel and the Palestinians.

Some Trump administration critics expect it will be a largely political document meant to bolster Mr. Netanyahu, assuming he survives this month’s election, and to affirm Mr. Trump’s domestic standing with conservative Jews and evangelical Christians who support Israeli territorial expansion.

But Trump officials argue that their peace effort is a serious one that incorporates lessons from the mistakes of several past administrations, although they have so far provided few details beyond a call for major new economic development in Palestinian areas.

After Mr. Greenblatt’s departure, Avi Berkowitz, an adviser to Mr. Kushner, will become “more involved in the process,” the Trump official said. So will Brian H. Hook, the State Department’s special representative for Iran.

Mr. Hook has already worked closely on the Israel-Palestinian file, a reflection of the Trump team’s theory that Israel and its Sunni Arab enemies can unite against a shared adversary: Tehran’s Shiite-led government.

Mr. Hook joined Mr. Kushner and Mr. Greenblatt for a midsummer Middle East tour meant to build support for their proposal from Arab leaders, whose backing they hope to win for a peace initiative that is expected to demand far more concessions from the Palestinians than from the Israelis. The Trump administration has been closely aligned with Mr. Netanyahu’s government on security and territorial issues, while taking an openly adversarial stance toward Palestinian leaders.

“It has been the honor of a lifetime to have worked in the White House for over two and a half years under the leadership of President Trump,” Mr. Greenblatt said in a statement. “I am incredibly grateful to have been part of a team that drafted a vision for peace. This vision has the potential to vastly improve the lives of millions of Israelis, Palestinians and others in the region.”

Mr. Kushner added in a statement that Mr. Greenblatt “has done a tremendous job leading the efforts to develop an economic and political vision for a long sought after peace in the Middle East,” saying he would remain a “close friend and partner.”
