Watch: Virtue Signaling Swedes Say They’d Take Refugees Into Their Home Until Presented With One

Westlake Legal Group Untitled-1-1-620x343 Watch: Virtue Signaling Swedes Say They’d Take Refugees Into Their Home Until Presented With One virtue signaling Sweden refugees Rape Politics migrants International Affairs Front Page Stories Europe crisis crime Allow Media Exception

If there’s one thing I love about people who viture signal, it’s that when it comes time to practice what they preach, they suddenly have excuses as to why they don’t practice the virtues they’ve been preaching to you about.

Take, for instance, the good people of Sweden. The country leans so heavily left that it’s fallen over into the muck of its own making. It’s welcomed in refugees from the middle east, and as a result, has seen a spiking crime and rape epidemic that nabbed it the title of “rape capital of the west.”

Instead of helping the people of its country, the Swedish government went about covering up its rape statistics. What’s more, the Swedish people are seemingly proud of their newfound troubles and are outwardly welcoming to the refugees.

Outwardly being the keyword here.

Recently, a small group set out to get the reactions of Swedes when asked if they would be willing to take refugees in themselves. Every person in the video answered they would.

They were likely feeling pretty proud of themselves as they answered the question, but then the video makers suddenly put their convictions to the test as the Swedes were then presented with a migrant they could take in. A grown man named “Ali,” who needed a place to live.

Naturally, the people who were so welcoming just moments ago began desperately searching any excuse in the book to not have to take in the migrant and all their talk about helping those in need looked oh so foolish.

It makes you wonder what kind of society we’d be living in if people were just more honest with themselves and others about their beliefs. If Swedes would just stand up and say that they’re not into the idea of refugees living in their homes because of the fact that they know it may invite all sorts of troubles, then perhaps Sweden would be a country much lower in crime and rape.

But this simple video just unveiled the truth about virtue signaling. It’s many people creating problems for others that they themselves wouldn’t take on. This video may have taken part in Sweden, but it’s a principle that applies to everyone.

Two Alleged Child Rapists Released And On The Run After Local Police Declined To Hold Them For ICE

Two separate police departments — one in New York and one in New Jersey — released alleged child child rapists back into the public after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) requested they be held, and those requests denied.

At least one of the men was arrested for what sounds like assault and restraint of a child younger than 16. The other is charged with rape of a minor under 17.

ICE told local news outlets that they requested both men be held until ICE was able to come pick them up. But jails denied those requests and subsequently released the suspects. Both men are now listed as fugitives.

ICE says the first man — Luciano Trejo-Dominguez – was arrested by Vineland, New Jersey police for allegedly restraining and sexually assaulting a child younger than 16 on Aug. 12.

Over the next two days, ICE and Pacific Enforcement Response Center both filed detainers to have Trejo-Dominguez held at the Cumberland County Jail. Those requests were denied and the alleged rapist was released on Aug. 23.

Trejo-Dominguez has been charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault of a victim 13-15 years-old, criminal restraint, criminal sexual contact, and endangering the welfare of a child.

The other man – Joaquin Rodriguez Quiroz — was arrested in Westchester County New York on charges of 3rd degree rape and was released after posting bond despite attempts by ICE to have the man detained until ICE could arrive and take custody.

Just this week, ICE arrested 54 people in New Jersey and complained that local jails were releasing wanted immigrants under a new rule that allowed local jails latitude to make a release decision relative to the seriousness of the crime.

The arrested immigrants included people from a dozen countries, including 21 from Mexico, nine from El Salvador and seven from Brazil, Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officials said.

The sweep targeted immigrants living in the country illegally who had been released from local jails in New Jersey instead of being turned over to ICE’s enforcement and removal operations — known as ERO — for possible deportation.

The new rules — called the Immigrant Trust Directive — say local jails can’t honor an “ICE detainer” in New Jersey unless the detainee has been charged with or convicted of a serious crime or has a pending deportation order from a judge.

ICE officials objected to new rules, calling New Jersey a “sanctuary state” for failing to hold undocumented immigrants until ICE agents can pick them up. New Jersey officials have said they do not believe it is legal for local jails to hold prisoners for ICE without a court order.

ICE has also been conducting sweeps this week across New York, arresting 82 people over five days. According to ICE, over half of those 82 arrested in New York had previously been in custody awaiting ICE following a detainer request that was then denied.

Conservative activist Scott Presler continued to deliver on his pledge to clean up Democrat-led cities across the country. He tackled his biggest project yet on Saturday. Wearing hazmat suits, he and a group of 200 volunteers spent nine hours removing 50 tons of garbage from an L.A. homeless camp. The photographs show a remarkable transformation.

In the video below, Presler shows what the camp looked like before they went to work.

Nine hours later, the results speak for themselves.

Imagine if the left spent less time crusading for the rights of migrants crossing into the U.S. illegally and more time solving the problems of American citizens requiring assistance.

It’s not hard. Presler shows us what it takes. Why have the leaders of these largely Democrat controlled cities ignored the problem for so long and allowed conditions to deteriorate to such hazardous levels? There are common sense solutions to these problems if liberals would stop crying about conditions at the border and act.

As Presler says, #StopTalkingStartDoing.

Presley told reporters, “The highlight of the day was when a homeless woman said to me, ‘Thank you for keeping your promise.’”

His next project will be a third cleanup in Baltimore scheduled for October 5th.

More on that El Salvador asylum deal

Westlake Legal Group TrumpOK More on that El Salvador asylum deal The Blog safe third country Nancy Pelosi migrants Illegal Immigration El Salvador donald trump asylum

Last night, John looked at the new asylum agreement we just signed with El Salvador and what implications this might hold for the future of both our legal and illegal immigration challenges facing us on our southern border. More details came out later and there’s a bit of backstory behind this agreement that deserves a look. For one thing, this is a preliminary deal with very little meat on it yet. It sounds as if this would more accurately be called an agreement in principle rather than any sort of formal treaty. (Associated Press)

The United States on Friday signed an agreement that paves the way for the U.S. to send many asylum-seekers to one of the world’s most violent countries, El Salvador.

But both countries must first take necessary legal actions and implement major border security and asylum procedures before it would go into effect, according to a draft copy of the agreement obtained by The Associated Press.

The deal is the latest ambitious step taken by the Trump administration to lean on other nations — many of them notoriously violent — to take in immigrants to stop the flow of migrants to the U.S.-Mexico border.

One of the first things to keep in mind that this isn’t technically a safe third country agreement, though when it’s fleshed out it will likely act as essentially the same thing. That’s similar to the Remain in Mexico policy that the Trump administration worked out with our neighbors to the south. It’s not identical to our agreement with Canada, but it winds up producing most of the same results.

Also, as John already noted, describing El Salvador as “safe” in any context is something of a joke. Even their own new president recently admitted (or at least suggested) that the gangs in that country probably control more turf than the actual government and far too many law enforcement officials are corrupt. But at least in the broad strokes, the White House seems to be indicating that we will make funds and resources available to help make the country at least a bit safer. They’ve recently managed to get the violent crime rate down a bit, so perhaps these improvements can continue with some help from us.

We should also note that El Salvador isn’t really a big part of the migrant issue. If you look at a map of the country you will note that they only take up a small part of the southern border of Guatemala and the route north from there goes through some rough terrain without much in the way of roads. Far more migrants probably come from El Salvadore than actually pass through there. But if we want a comprehensive solution to our border issues, all of the nations involved will have to be included eventually.

This agreement comes barely a month after Speaker Nancy Pelosi led a delegation down to El Salvador to meet with their new president, some legislators and refugee aid groups. You can read a summary of her trip at the Speaker’s website, but she came away sounding somewhat positive about the experience. She’s not a fan of what Trump is proposing here (there’s a shock for you), but some of her other comments make it sound as if she’s open to some sort of solution. Interestingly, when she’s not criticizing the President, she sounds like she’s on the same page in some regards. Here’s Pelosi saying basically that she wants people in El Salvador to stay there if they can be made safe.

Oddly enough, that sounds pretty much like the same thing President Trump wants. Do you suppose we might actually see these two agreeing on a question regarding immigration? LOL. Don’t hold your breath.

Again: Biden lies, claims Obama administration didn’t lock immigrants in “cages”

Westlake Legal Group j Again: Biden lies, claims Obama administration didn’t lock immigrants in “cages” The Blog Obama migrants immigration Deportation cages biden

Via the Free Beacon, foolishly I thought he wouldn’t dare make this claim again after he made it last week on Stephen Colbert’s show. It’s transparently, even famously, false. Either the media was going to make him pay by calling him on it or a Democratic rival would.

But no, apart from a few righties like me crying foul, he got away with it scot-free. How? Right, I know, normally you’d expect the press to let him slide, but don’t forget that many journalists are pulling for a more progressive candidate in the primaries. They have an ideological incentive at the moment to fact-check Biden rigorously. As do his opponents, of course.

He got so little flak for what he said on Colbert, though, that he repeated the claim last night before a national audience. In an exchange with open-borders shill Jorge Ramos, no less.

This time the press wouldn’t let him slide. Vox immigration reporter Dara Lind was so disgusted by his lie that she tuned out:

You want fact-checks? You got fact-checks. The AP dinged Biden this morning, as did PolitiFact, as did the Times and Vox. Fox News had commentators on as well to call Biden out. Grandpa Joe is right that the Obama administration didn’t separate families like Trump has but he’s simply incorrect that Trump brought “cages” to immigration policy. Team O introduced those for unaccompanied minors apprehended at the border five years ago.

I mean, really:

All of that being so, I continue not to understand how the rest of the field didn’t pounce on Biden for this. If ever Julian Castro was going to accuse Joe of having a brain turned to oatmeal by age, you would think it would have been here: “Have you really forgotten your own administration’s habit of caging migrant children, Mr. Vice President? Or has that memory been lost too, like the memory of your early support for the Iraq war?” That would have been a twofer, introducing concerns about Biden’s age into the mix while highlighting his terrible ideological sin of supporting basic enforcement.

Speaking of which, go watch the clip above again and drink in the spectacle of a Democratic VP being put on the spot by an immigration radical masquerading as a journalist for having done nothing more than enforce the immigration laws of the United States. Biden had an easy comeback to Ramos if he wanted it: “It’s the president’s job to faithfully execute federal statutes. We lobbied Congress for comprehensive immigration reform; we did what we could to spare the most sympathetic cases, like DREAMers, from removal. But at the end of the day we had a job to do and we did it.” But he was afraid to give that answer, preferring to let himself be shamed instead for not being willfully derelict in his duty. Open-borders trash, all of them.

Today We Say Never Forget But Let’s Be Brutally Honest, We Are Forgetting.

Today the United States of America once again pauses to take a moment to remember the events that reshaped the world on September-11-2001. Hard to believe that it has been 18 years since the purely evil events of that day unfolded. Yet here we are at another anniversary as time marches on.

Most of us will take to facebook and recount “where we were” when the planes struck and what an awful, tragic day that was. We will accompany those posts with memes that say “Never Forget” and then move on to September 12th and live our lives until next year. Which is of course what those who sacrificed their lives and those who were murdered would have wanted for us.

Let me very blunt here though.

We are forgetting and it is showing.

Here are some examples why…

On June 11th 2019 Luis Alvarez went before Congress to talk about the 9-11 victim compensation fund. Alvarez, a retired New York City Police Detective, and 9/11 first responder was there to plead for reauthorization of funds before a House committee.

Here is part of what he said according to Time

A little more than two weeks before his death, Alvarez – who was visibly very ill and thin – traveled to Congress and testified before the House Judiciary subcommittee, urging legislators to extend the fund.

“You made me come down here the day before my 69th round of chemo and I’m going to make sure that you never forget to take care of the 9/11 first responders,” he said. Comedian Jon Stewart testified shortly afterward, chastising Congress for taking years to make the program permanent and condemning the legislators who failed to show up to watch the first responders’ testimony.

At Alvarez’s chemotherapy appointment the following day, medical providers determined that his liver was failing and causing disorientation. Alvarez decided to enter hospice care shortly afterwards.

This hero died 18 days later.

You might have heard about this man and his colleagues going to Congress to ask for this without assistance from someone famous.

You DID hear about it because Jon Stewart had a meltdown, verbally undressing those elected officials for once again dropping the ball of simply keeping a promise. I know some reading this might have thought that Stewart did a bit of an acting job that day, well good for him if he was. He was at least ACTING as he cared on a day that was not Sept-11.

How does a nation that is saying “Never Forget” once a year allow our elected officials to forget those that responded first to these tragedies? They literally saved hundreds if not thousands of lives while giving up their own either on that day or a little bit each moment since, like Detective Alvarez.

“Never Forget” I guess does not apply to the still broken immigration system that this country has 18 years later. This has nothing to do with a wall but how we make sure that those that come here legally, stay here legally.  Five of the 19 hijackers were here illegally when the planes flew into World Trade Center One and Two, The Pentagon and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

According to National Review

Did you remember that five of the 9/11 hijackers — Mohamed Atta, Marwan al-Shehhi, Hani Hanjour, Nawaf al-Hazmi, and Satam al-Suqami — carried out their killer plot after overstaying their visas, evading detection, and avoiding deportation?

Did you remember the other radical Muslim members of the Terrorist Visa Overstayers Club? They include 1997 New York subway bomber Lafi Khalil; 1993 World Trade Center bombers Mahmud Abouhalima, Mohammed Salameh, and Eyad Ismoil; 1993 New York landmark bombing plot conspirator Fadil Abdelgani; convicted Times Square bomb plotter Faisal Shahzad; and U.S. Capitol bomb plotter Amine El Khalifi, whose visa expired in 1999 and who escaped Homeland Security’s notice for 12 years before he was arrested in 2012 — just blocks from the Capitol building donning what he thought was a suicide-bomb vest.

Maybe we forgot.

How about the war in Afghanistan?

The reasons for going into that war were justified. The Taliban were harboring those that trained and plotted the attacks on America that fateful day. President Bush 43 was able to explain that clearly when the United States military invaded in early October 2001.

Now, 18 years later can anyone explain what the mission is and how we “win” this longest battle America has ever been in?

We have paid a heavy price according to Washington Post

The conflict had left 2,400 U.S. service members dead and more than 20,000 wounded; more than 145,000 people in all, including Afghan military, police and civilians, have died, according to a 2018 report from Brown University’s Costs of War Project; America has spent $737 billion on the war.

This doesn’t include the calculation of dealing with the long term effects of those who served in this conflict and the one in Iraq. They need our support just as much as those who stormed the towers on that clear Sept morning almost two decades ago.

Next year we will have High School seniors graduating in the United States of America that were born AFTER the attacks of 9-11. What that means is that the horrible events of that day will only be a recorded event for them much like Pearl Harbor or the Kennedy assassination was for us. Simply saying “Never Forget” will simply be an empty slogan for them unless those of us who watched those terrible events unfold that day make it mean something to them.

We need to be honest with them about what happened on that day and what has happened since.

We need to teach them that anyone with a badge or uniform is not automatically the enemy but people that deserve our respect.

We need to reinforce that there is evil in the world and ignoring it and hoping it goes away will only encourage it to thrive.

We need to teach them that “Never Forget” is not something we should not only do once a year but consistently throughout the year.  We should teach them this by doing it ourselves and showing by example not just by a Facebook post stating where you were for the 1000th time.

We need to ensure that those who rushed into the buildings and the regular folks who were thrust into horrifying circumstances and sacrificed themselves to save others are never forgotten.

Truly, Never Forgotten!!!!

Todd Beamer who was a passenger on United Flight 93 that crashed into Pennsylvania on this day along with some of the other passengers on his flight decided to storm the cockpit and stop their plane from being used as a weapon. Beamers last words as he was talking to a sky phone operator was “Let’s Roll” and he and others saved many lives while giving up their own.

If we do not fight the apathy that is creeping into the remembrances of what this day means during the other 364 days of the year, this country will turn Beamers last words into “Let’s Not” or “Who Cares” and that means, we will ultimately have forgotten.

So let us ban together to “Never Forget” so that “Never Happens”.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, based in San Francisco has 29 seats. Seven of those are filled by Trump appointees bringing the total of GOP appointed judges to thirteen. It appears that the Trump administration’s efforts to appoint conservative judges is starting to have some effect.

On Monday, District Court Judge Jon Tigar (Northern District of California), an Obama appointee, reinstated a nationwide ban on Trump’s Third Country Asylum rule. This policy prevents migrants from seeking asylum at the U.S. border unless they have already done so in Mexico or another third country. Prior to this, the Ninth Circuit had ruled that the preliminary injunction against this policy was only enforceable within the Ninth Circuit. My colleague Bonchie posted about this on Tuesday here.

On Tuesday, however, the Ninth Circuit issued an administrative order reversing Tigar’s nationwide ban. Yesterday’s order limits the ban to states over which the Ninth Circuit has jurisdiction. This includes California, Arizona, Alaska, Hawaii, Montana, Nevada, Idaho, Guam, Oregon, and Washington.

Fox News reports:

Tigar first blocked the asylum policy in July after a lawsuit by groups that help asylum seekers. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals then partially limited the impact of Tigar’s injunction.

That meant the policy was blocked in the border states of California and Arizona but not in New Mexico and Texas.

In his ruling Monday, Tigar circled back, and stressed a “need to maintain uniform immigration policy” and found that nonprofit organizations such as Al Otro Lado don’t know where asylum seekers who enter the U.S. will end up living and making their case to remain in the country.

Tiger, citing new evidence, on Monday issued a second nationwide injunction.

“The court recognized there is grave danger facing asylum-seekers along the entire stretch of the southern border,” Lee Gelernt, an attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union, said in a statement.

Tiger’s activism begs the question, should a highly partisan district court judge, an unelected federal official, have the power to set national immigration policy? Throughout Trump’s presidency, liberal judges have repeatedly acted to reverse his administration’s policies. These judges have more power than most elected officials do. This situation interferes with the President’s ability to govern and must be addressed by the Supreme Court.

Much to the left’s dismay, Trump’s policies are making a measurable difference. Despite the best efforts of the bleeding hearts, border apprehensions in August were down 56% to 64,000 from their peak in May when they reached 144,000.

Are you listening Justice Roberts?

Illegal Alien Who Confessed to Murder Of Mollie Tibbets, Says His Constitutional Rights Were Violated

On July 18, 2018, University of Iowa student, Mollie Tibbets, age 20, went out for a jog in Brooklyn, Iowa and disappeared.

Following an exhaustive search, Tibbett’s body was found over a month later in a Poweshiek County cornfield. Police had been led there by illegal alien Cristhian Bahena Rivera, then 24, who had confessed to the murder. Surveillance camera footage had shown Rivera’s car following Tibbetts. Rivera was charged with first-degree murder and is being held on a $5 million bond.

According to Breitbart News:

Rivera told police that Tibbetts was jogging when he saw her, according to prosecutors. That is when he said he approached Tibbetts and started talking to her. After Tibbetts told Bahena Rivera that she would call the police if he did not stop following her, the illegal alien allegedly chased her and says he “blacked out” after this.

Rivera lived in the county, an area which is surrounded by sanctuary cities, and with a “stolen ID and social security card,” he had found work at a local dairy farm.

Rivera is being represented by two tax-payer funded attorneys, Chad and Jennifer Frese.

They have just filed a 29-page motion which was obtained by the Des Moines Register. They claim that Rivera’s constitutional rights were violated because the local Iowa police who questioned him failed to make it “clear that he could have contacted the Mexican consulate before speaking to law enforcement.”

The filing states:

Providing this information to Bahena Rivera — a confused, exhausted and vulnerable Mexican national was seeking trustworthy help — would have triggered an invocation of consular notification and a decision to await the consulate’s assistance before making any other statements.

They also claim that Rivera was not read his Miranda Rights “until hours into a 12-hour interview — a violation of his constitutional rights that they claim should nullify his alleged murder confession.”

The attorneys wrote that he has “very limited Mexican education” and is “wholly unfamiliar with the U.S. criminal justice system.”

The case is due to go to trial on November 12 and has already been postponed once as Rivera’s attorneys try to have his confession thrown out of the case. They have already managed to “move the trial to a less white, more Hispanic-populated county in the state.”

Should Rivera’s confession be thrown out because he wasn’t read his Miranda rights until several hours into his interview? Should he escape punishment because police forgot to read them for a few hours?

I am not a lawyer, but it’s possible the police did not arrest Rivera until several hours into questioning because that is when they determined he was the killer.

The law states (and I’m sure that exceptions apply) if an individual is not read their Miranda rights, the evidence gathered cannot be used to establish guilt in court.

What happens then in the Rivera case, when the rights were read several hours into the confession? The court filing indicates that, at some point during the interview, he was read his Miranda rights.

Rivera then continued speaking to police for several more hours, signed his confession and then led police to Tibet’s body. The fact that he murdered her is not in question.

This case opens up the hot debate between liberals and conservatives over just which constitutional rights people who enter the U.S. illegally are entitled to. Certain basic human rights apply to citizens and non-citizens alike, but should undocumented immigrants receive the full constitutional rights an American citizen would?

Should American taxpayers be forced to pay for Rivera’s legal representation?

Finally, and most importantly, what about Mollie Tibbetts’ constitutional rights?

The Texas Tribune’s Jay Root reports that President Trump’s “Remain In Mexico” policy, officially known as the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), is starting to show results. He wrote:

Launched in January in California, the initiative has since spread across the border all the way to deep South Texas. Activists have sued to stop it, but MPP has survived so far as those legal challenges work their way through the courts.

The controversial “remain in Mexico” plan is becoming one of the Trump administration’s most successful strategies in keeping migrants from gaining entry into the U.S. Just ask the migrants who got released into cartel weary Nuevo Laredo this week. Many are headed home.

Root shares the stories of migrants who have paid thousands of dollars to smugglers to reach the U.S., only to receive an asylum hearing date, a “notice to appear statement,” which can be as long as three months away and then be marched back over the border into Nuevo Laredo, Mexico.

Nuevo Laredo is a dangerous place, where the crime rate and the possibility of being kidnapped are both high. “Kidnapping is not an idle concern here. The Mexican state of Tamaulipas, which stretches from Nuevo Laredo to Brownsville, is the birthplace of the Gulf Cartel and its violent offspring, the Zetas, a faction of which rules Nuevo Laredo.”

Many migrants, given the choice between remaining in Nuevo Laredo or returning home, choose the latter.

Root shares the story of Olvin Alexander Buezo who gave $6,000 to a smuggler to he and his seven-year-old son cross the border. They had recently entered the U.S.  They were issued a court date, then marched back over the International Bridge into Mexico. Buezo told Root that, “his seven-year-old son would not be attending elementary school this fall in Foley, Alabama. There would be no good-paying U.S. job to finance the $6,000 debt he incurred to pay their smuggler.”

After abandoning his asylum claim, Buezo told him: “I already told [my uncle] to sell everything. Their small “farm” — less than three acres — would have to go…There’s no other way. The important thing is to get back home alive in Honduras.”

Root reported that Buezo’s experience was far from unique. He said that earlier in the week at a “Mexican migrant processing facility in Nuevo Laredo, dozens of Central Americans were asked by The Texas Tribune to raise their hands if they wanted to return to their countries of origin. Nearly all of them did.”

After being marched back across the bridge into Nuevo Laredo, they were given two options by Mexican government. They could remain “on their own” in the lawless town or they could board a bus which would take them to Monterrey, Mexico. Many migrants chose the latter.

And they aren’t planning to return. They are choosing to return to their homes “to avoid becoming sitting ducks for the local drug cartels or winding up deeper in debt for an ever-decreasing chance of gaining entry to the United States.”

Root spoke to Cristian Urquiza, age 31, who told him, “We’re all traumatized.” Urquiza had paid $7,000 to a smuggler. He told Root he had asked authorities to deport him back to Honduras, but this request had been refused. He said, “We’re afraid and we want to go home, even though we’re scared to return to our country…If Honduras is dangerous, Mexico is worse. It’s more dangerous.”

Root said that the new policies were wearing the migrants down. He was told by an anonymous government official that approximately 40% of those who are returned to Mexico to await their court dates fail to show up.

A migration expert at the University of Texas told Root:

If MPP survives court challenges, it could significantly reduce the number of Central American migrants requesting asylum in the U.S. She said the ability for them to live and work in the U.S. while awaiting the outcome of their cases remains a big draw.”

If it’s expanded across the border it is going to have a pretty dramatic effect in my opinion on the numbers of people who are coming. There is a big difference between waiting in Boston for your case and waiting in Mexicali or Monterrey.

Most of the migrants who have come from Cuba and Venezuela plan to stay in Mexico to await their court dates. For them, especially the Venezuelans, conditions are worse back home than they are in Nueva Laredo.

So, it appears that the Trump administration has found a strategy that works. The U.S. shouldn’t be forced to provide food, shelter and medical care for every migrant who sets foot on American soil. As more potential migrants understand that this policy is actually being enforced, many of them will be deterred from making the journey to the border at all. Hopefully, it won’t be torpedoed by some liberal judge.

Earlier this month, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) visited a border detention center in Texas along with a Congressional delegation of other Democrats. She made some alarming claims after her visit, including alleging that migrant women told her they were forced to drink water out of toilets.

Here’s what she said at the time:

There have been other disturbing things alleged about the conditions at these centers, but while most Republicans and Democrats agree (for now, anyway) that the conditions represent a crisis, reports that migrants had to drink from toilets seemed to be far-fetched. Nevertheless, the mainstream media latched on to them as evidence that President Trump was deliberately mistreating those being detained.

Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) posted a video on Instagram Tuesday in which he indicated he wanted to “set the record straight” on AOC’s claims about migrants and the toilet water. Here’s what he said (transcribed):

“You all remember the controversy of immigrants having to drink out of toilets. Now, I don’t think that most people believed that but let’s actually clarify it.

I spoke to the agents today here in El Paso who were there when AOC was making that accusation. Here’s what happened.

When she was asking immigrants where they got their water from, they said ‘el baño.’ Okay. In Spanish, ‘el baño’ could mean toilet, it could mean bathroom. Here’s what they were actually pointing at.

They were pointing at this. You see a sink and you see a toilet. This is potable water. This is where migrants actually get their water from a lot of times. Either this, or a water cooler right outside.

In subsequent conversations, they made that very clear. They said no, no, no we’re not actually drinking out of a toilet, but that lie …”

The video cut off at that point. Watch Crenshaw’s demonstration below:

The first term Congressman has not been shy in the past about taking on AOC’s assertions about the illegal immigration issue on the whole and conditions at the border specifically. In fact, he has emerged as a leading Republican voice in the House when it comes to the border crisis and how the true Democratic party position is for open borders with no enforcement.
