Trump: Biden’s best quality was knowing “how to kiss Barack Obama’s a**”

Westlake Legal Group trump-bidens Trump: Biden’s best quality was knowing “how to kiss Barack Obama’s a**” The Blog MINNEAPOLIS Joe Biden Ilhan Omar hunter biden donald trump campaign rally

“Hunter, you’re a loser,” taunted Donald Trump at his rally in Minneapolis last night to the delight of his supporters gathered at the Target Center. Trump got personal in his attacks on the Bidens, going after Hunter’s drug use and sudden transformation into an energy expert, while disdaining Joe Biden’s reputation as an eminence grise among Democrats. “He was only a good vice president,” Trump said, “because he figured out how to kiss Barack Obama’s ass.”

“Hunter, you know nothing about energy, you know nothing about China, you know nothing about anything, frankly,” Trump said to a near-capacity crowd. “Hunter, you’re a loser.”

Mocking Hunter Biden’s lack of public appearances, Trump bellowed: “Whatever happened to Hunter? Where the hell is he? . . . I have an idea for a new T-shirt . . . Where’s Hunter?” …

Hunter Biden served for nearly five years on the board of Burisma, Ukraine’s largest private gas company, whose owner came under scrutiny by Ukrainian prosecutors for possible abuse of power and unlawful enrichment. Hunter Biden was not accused of any wrongdoing in the investigation. As vice president, Joe Biden pressured Ukraine to fire the top prosecutor, Viktor Shokin, who Biden and other Western officials said was not sufficiently pursuing corruption cases. At the time, the investigation into Burisma was dormant, according to former Ukrainian and U.S. officials.

During the raucous rally — interrupted frequently by pro-Trump chants, cheers and boos as protesters were hauled out of the arena — the president ramped up his attacks on Biden and paid scant attention to other potential 2020 Democratic challengers, even as the former vice president has faltered as of late in polling.

Biden “was never considered smart,” Trump said. “He was never considered a good senator. He was only a good vice president because he figured out how to kiss Barack Obama’s ass.”

Never let it be said that Trump left any argument on the cutting-room floor. The Hunter Biden attacks might be a bit too personal to sell well outside of a rally stage, but Trump’s more on the mark about Biden. Obama picked him as a running mate mainly because Obama put his foot in his mouth regarding Russia in the 2008 campaign and needed someone with foreign-policy experience on the ticket after the invasion of Georgia. Biden is what passed for a foreign-policy expert in Democratic circles. In reality, as Robert Gates later wrote, Biden has been wrong on every major foreign policy question over the last four decades.

By all marks, the rally was a success. It got tons of attention and earned media, annoyed the national media, set up new betes noires and heroes for Team Trump (Mayor Jacob Frey and the police union, respectively), and forced Democrats to the defensive on their own turf. It even included a demonstration of how nuts Trump’s opponents can get:

As President Donald Trump’s speech moved close to the 90-minute mark Thursday night, skirmishes between protesters and Minneapolis Police officers outside Target Center began to heat up in the rain.

A group of protesters were seen on video lighting up a bonfire with what appeared to be Trump-related baseball caps and apparel.

Police are shown extinguishing the fire, and keeping protesters at bay with chemical spray, bicycles and even horses.

Those optics might have even been worth paying the absurd $530,000 security fee Frey initially demanded. Perhaps Frey should send that bill to the DFL instead.

Our friend Scott Johnson at Power Line even got a special shout-out from Trump last night. Trump praised Scott for his tenacious reporting on Ilhan Omar while tearing into the first-term House member for her anti-Semitism:

“Man, do you have her figured out,” Trump told Johnson, while noting that the media is ignoring his “great reporting.” That’s how to make sure you connect to the local community.

Police officers are often present at protests. But have you ever heard of them doing the protesting?

Law enforcement officers who endorse the President are making a move. And it’s a bit of a rallying one, but in good taste.

The day after Trump announced an upcoming Minneapolis rally, the department passed down a spankin’ new edict: You can’t wear your uniforms to political events.

John Elder, a police spokesman, explained to USA Today that the rule is in place to prevent confusion:

“The uniform gets translated back to the average person as someone being from the police department. It’s very confusing for people when they see someone in uniform to understand the difference between the city and the [police union].”

The head of the local union was unimpressed. In his view, the ban was simply a way for Democrats in charge to prevent a show of boys(and girls)-in-blue GOP support.

A show, incidentally, the President would probably be expecting:

Trump often surrounds himself with men and women in uniform, both in the White House and on the campaign trail. He has has long painted himself as a pro-law enforcement president, ranging from his sharp criticism of NFL player protests during the national anthem over police brutality to the Department of Justice’s slowed pace of civil rights investigations into local police departments.

In February at the Major County Sheriffs and the Major Cities Chiefs Association Joint Conference, he renewed his commitment to law enforcement, vowing to make “officer safety a top priority.”

“In my administration, we understand that reducing crime begins with respecting law enforcement. We will not tolerate smears, or slanders or assaults on those who wear the badge and police our streets,” he said.

Right. So what’s a policing Trump fan to do?

Well, the answer is a colorful one.

As indicated by Lt. Bob Kroll, president of the Police Officers Federation of Minneapolis, The Donald will be bolstered by lotsa law enforcement dudes and dudettes sporting red “Cops for Trump” shirts.

The Commander-in-Chief is psyched about the impending Red Sea:

The group’s got quite the famous salesperson:

As I wait for that, stay tuned for the Minnesota rally: All those shirts you see will be folks who Protect and Serve stickin’ it — in their minds — to the Powers That Bemoan Beelzebub.

To many of his critics, he’s Satan. But to those who believe in Making America Great Again, he’s just the good ol’ President of the United States.

Team Trump: We’ll sue Minneapolis over $530,000 shakedown by liberal mayor

Westlake Legal Group wcco-target-lawsuit Team Trump: We’ll sue Minneapolis over $530,000 shakedown by liberal mayor The Blog Target Center security costs MINNEAPOLIS lawsuit jacob frey donald trump campaign

As of now, Donald Trump is scheduled to appear at the Target Center in Minneapolis on Thursday, part of his plan to flip Minnesota to the GOP in 2020. The city wants to make sure he pays for the privilege — through the nose, apparently. The city sent a $530,000 security bill to the venue for Trump’s rally, which then passed it along to Team Trump, which then promptly threatened to sue the city over its “outrageous abuse of power”:

Tensions between Minneapolis city leaders and President Donald Trump’s campaign escalated Monday when the campaign threatened to sue the city for trying to force it to pay $530,000 for security during this week’s rally.

Trump’s campaign team said in a news release late Monday night that Mayor Jacob Frey is “abusing the power of his office” by “conjuring a phony and outlandish bill for security” to cover those costs for Thursday’s campaign rally.

City officials told the Target Center, which is managed by AEG, that it would be responsible for paying the costs. The center then allegedly tried to pass the bill on to Trump’s team and told them they would not be able to use the arena unless they agreed to the charges.

“This is an outrageous abuse of power by a liberal mayor trying to deny the rights of his own city’s residents just because he hates the President,” Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale said in a statement. “People want to hear from their President, and no mayor looking to beef up his résumé for a run for higher office should stand in the way.”

Frey might have been looking to get around an issue that has hung in the background of Trump’s campaign for months. Other cities have tried billing the Trump campaign directly for increased police costs, only to have the billings ignored. The Center for Public Integrity reported on the backlog of police-security bills last June in conjunction with NBC and CNBC, when it totaled up to almost $900,000 in this cycle already:

At least nine other city governments — from Mesa, Arizona, to Erie, Pennsylvania — are still waiting for Trump to pay public safety-related invoices they’ve sent his presidential campaign committee in connection with his political rallies, according to interviews with local officials and municipal records obtained by the Center for Public Integrity.

Some invoices are three years old. In all, city governments say Trump’s campaign owes them at least $841,219.

However, the campaign never agreed to pay police costs in the first place. The Secret Service did request extra police presence, as they would wherever the president travels and for whatever purpose, but that’s been considered part of the normal operation in protecting presidents as well as the local communities impacted. CPI also noted that many municipalities agree with that concept, expressly prohibiting imposing security costs on politicians for holding events.

By billing the Target Center instead of the Trump campaign, it certainly looks as though Frey was trying to get around that issue. This actually demonstrates why such policies might be wise; Frey’s actions could easily be taken to arbitrarily deny politicians a forum to engage with voters. Do they charge these costs to every venue that hosts events for political campaigns? Do the venues always pass along those costs if/when they get billed? Or is this treatment only reserved for Republican presidential candidates who visit MN-05?

Those turn out to be excellent questions, at least when it comes to Minneapolis. The city doesn’t even bill the Twins and the Vikings for such costs — at least not yet:

In an interview Monday, Minneapolis City Attorney Susan Segal said “it’s not fair” for residents to shoulder such costs, whether they are for political or sporting events. She said the city has been having conversations with organizations including the Twins, the Vikings and the Minnesota Ballpark Authority about sharing the costs of additional event expenses during games. She said these discussions have been going on since before the Super Bowl in 2018.

Bear in mind that the city has been eating those costs for decades, even while building both teams brand new stadiums over the past few years. Nor, in fact, have they ever billed a political campaign before now:

Robin McPherson, Minneapolis Police Department’s finance director, said in a Sept. 26 e-mail to city officials that the agency has not sought reimbursement for campaign rallies because it was “to ensure public safety not security for the candidate and any costs have been nominal.” But she said Trump’s rally “will be significantly more expensive and extensive.”

In other words, this was an arbitrary choice to impose such security costs. It’s also an absurd amount to charge, as WCCO reported noted this morning and picked up Team Trump. For comparison, a similar Trump campaign visit to Duluth in 2018 cost that city only $69,000 — about 87% less than Minneapolis’ bill:

They literally don’t do it for anyone else but Trump. If it comes to a lawsuit, Minneapolis had better expect to lose, which means they’ll eat not just this clearly inflated bill, but also the inflated legal costs that won’t be so easy to write off.

Allowing city governments to charge arbitrary fees to politicians for campaign rallies seems like a very bad idea. That’s exactly what this is — an arbitrary and ludicrous fee charged to a politician which this city government doesn’t like.

The police union president is unhappy with Frey, and went on Fox & Friends this morning to discuss it. This may not turn out well for Frey, especially since the city has ordered police in the past to participate in presidential photo ops.

Minneapolis’s Radical Left Mayor Tries to Shut Down a Trump Campaign Rally

On Thursday, President Trump is due to give a rally in Minneapolis, MN. The venue has a rated capacity of over 19,000 and it is expected to be packed. And there will be another 20,000 slobbering, baying lunatics out in the streets protesting.

A coalition of groups has announced it will be protesting against President Donald Trump’s visit to Minneapolis, Minnesota, as he continues his 2020 re-election campaign.

Members from the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), the Anti-War Committee, Twin Cities Coalition for Justice for Jamar, and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) union will hold demonstrate against Trump’s political rally in a protest at the Target Center from 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 10.

In a press conference announcing the protest, Kent Mori, spokesman for the Anti-War Committee, encouraged others to join the coalition in order to “protest Trump and his racist policies.”

“The Anti War Committee have been fighting Trump’s provocations since before he was even president, when he came down the escalator and made his first racist announcement about our brothers and sisters across the border in Mexico,” Mori added.

“He clearly signaled what he was going to do vis-à-vis the border wall and the concentration camps at the border with kids in cages.”

Shane Clune, an AFSCME member, said they will be protesting against Trump because he is an “enemy of the unions” and an “enemy of the working class.”

Westlake Legal Group jacob-frey-and-keith-ellison-620x413 Minneapolis’s Radical Left Mayor Tries to Shut Down a Trump Campaign Rally Politics Minnesota MINNEAPOLIS jacob frey Front Page Stories Featured Story donald trump democrats Allow Media Exception #TheResistance

Just two observations. First, it is ironic that the “Anti-War Committee” would be protesting a guy who has done more to scale back American military interventions abroad than any American president since possibly Dwight Eisenhower. Second, do real people still use the phrase “enemy of the working class” to describe anyone, much less a guy whose economic policies have overwhelmingly benefited the American worker?

But the hirsute, odoriferous mob in the streets is just a minor part of this. The real story is the effort by the Minneapolis mayor to actually stop Trump from holding a rally in that city. In fact, he’s as much as announced that is his intent (h/t to reader @AndrewHClark):

The venue, the Target Center, is owned by the City of Minneapolis but managed under contract by a company called ASM Global. Minneapolis has told ASM Global that if they allow the rally, which, by the way, is already contracted for, then they need to pay Minneapolis $530,000 to compensate the city for “security.”

ASM Global has threatened the Trump campaign with cancelling the event unless the campaign comes up with the money. The campaign is saying bullsh** and that Secret Service is providing security for the venue and the issue is something that the ASM Global and its boss need to work out.

The bottom line here is that a) yes, presidential and candidate events cost cities money and b) there is no legal way that he cities can force campaigns to pay. The reason here is obvious, going back to McCulloch vs. Maryland, it has been recognized that the ability of state and local government to demand taxes and fees from the operations of the federal government in essence gives them the ability to forbid that operation, “the power to tax is the power to destroy” and all. Minneapolis has never, ever demanded this kind of a fee to support any other federal office holder. It is simply trying to grandstand for the Resistance goons and get the Minneapolis mayor invited to be a guest speaker on the next Bulwark or National Review cruise.

Minneapolis suburb: On second thought, let’s bring back the Pledge of Allegiance

Westlake Legal Group renault-casablanca Minneapolis suburb: On second thought, let’s bring back the Pledge of Allegiance The Blog St. Louis Park Pledge of Allegiance MN-05 MINNEAPOLIS donald trump

A month ago, the city council for St. Louis Park decided to end the practice of reciting the Pledge of Allegiance at its meetings to be more “inclusive.” After getting an earful from locals as well as national figures, the council reversed itself last night. In a unanimous vote on an unscheduled motion, city councilors decided that the Pledge was pretty darned inclusive after all.

Or perhaps it was more of an admission that they should have been focused on more substantial matters all along:

The pledge was not scheduled to be discussed Monday night, but Council Member Thom Miller made a motion to reinstate it because the city has been inundated with e-mails and phone calls, some that Miller believed endangered city staff and residents.

“There are many from outside of St. Louis Park who are abusing and harassing our city staff, making it very difficult for them to serve the residents and businesses in our city, which is the very reason our local government exists,” he said at the meeting.

A short time later, council members voted 7-0 to reinstate the pledge.

There were protesters present supporting the council’s earlier decision, some holding signs saying “You are welcome here,” according to the Star Tribune. Councilor Kirsten Brekke Albright said that the protest against the initial decision “saddens” her because it came from “mindless, but very effective, agitators and organizers.” Still, she threw in for repealing the earlier decision because she wanted to get back to work.

That prompts the question: why did the council go out of its way to take the action in the first place? If Albright wanted to focus on work a month ago instead of symbolic nonsense, St. Louis Park would never have ended up in the national spotlight in the first place. Albright and the council wanted to make a public spectacle with their virtue signaling by banning the pledge. Now they’re shocked, shocked to find that when elected officials grandstand, people not only notice but feel empowered to respond. Talk about mindless.

The lament about national reaction wasn’t false, though. Even Donald Trump weighed in on it a couple of times on Twitter:

It was a dumb fight for the St. Louis Park city council to pick, and not just because of Trump’s criticisms. At least some of their constituents didn’t appreciate the council’s implications either, regardless of the “agitators and organizers.” One woman wanted to know what exactly wasn’t welcoming and inclusive in the Pledge?

Marni Hockenberg of Roseville said the protesters believe the council’s initial decision was another freedom “being taken away from us bit by bit.”

“Why take that right away from other Americans who are really proud to be united and indivisible in one nation?” she said. “I think the Pledge of Allegiance celebrates our diversity, that we’re all united.”

Want to bet that none of the councilors ever answer that question — at least not in public? The Star Tribune reports that most of the people in the room agreed with Hockenberg, not the council — and so did the “large overflow crowd” standing in the hallway outside. One suspects that the next city council election in St. Louis Park will be a livelier affair than usual.

Although, perhaps not. As I explained to a friend who asked me about the initial decision last month, “Forget it, man … it’s MN-05 Town.” I’m delighted to have underestimated the people of this CD. For a shining moment, even Rep. Ilhan Omar’s district managed to generate some popular support for symbolic shows of patriotism and inclusion. For Albright and the rest of the St. Louis Park city council, this Captain Louis Renault award is for you.

In case you haven’t heard, race is the big thing.

What we thought the world learned after Hitler? It didn’t so much take.

Lessons on the other side of segregation? They’re fading.

We’re now back to the 40’s — there are whites and non-whites, like the water fountains knew.

But enter a hip, new, and so totally altogether different term: instead of colored, “people of color.” Presto Change-O, Woke-O.

But how about Lie-O?

Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar recently told a large group of youngsters at Richfield High School that about half a decade ago, she was serving as a city councilwoman in Minneapolis. And she learned a valuable lesson about the U.S. malady of systemic racism.

As reported by Fox News:

She recalled a “sweet, old… African-American lady” who was detained for a whole weekend for stealing a $2 loaf of bread to feed her “starving 5-year-old granddaughter,” according to The Washington Post, and screamed an expletive in court after the woman was fined $80 for the crime.

“I couldn’t control my emotions,” Omar told students, “because I couldn’t understand how a roomful of educated adults could do something so unjust.”

But the Post called BS:

Omar’s story echoed the plot of Les Miserables. If true, it is also probably embellished. City officials said that police aren’t allowed to arrest people for shoplifting unless there’s a likelihood of violence or further crime. Typically, shoplifters are sentenced to attend a three-hour class.

Now Ilhan’s admitting the tale may have been plagued with that substance not too dissimilar to her colleague AOC’s dreaded nemesis, cow farts (here, here, and here):

“She might have had a prior [arrest]. I’m not sure. … The details might not have all matched, but that’s what I remember.”

Nice.

Big difference.

So what was her point? What did she want to convey to teens yet to form their concrete thoughts about the greatest nation ever to exist?

Well, she also told the kids this:

“I grew up in an extremely unjust society, and the only thing that made my family excited about coming to the United States was that the United States was supposed to be the country that guaranteed justice to all. So, I feel it necessary for me to speak about that promise that’s not kept.”

Back to a more 1940’s East Germany perspective, perhaps the students are learning that whole race thing well:

After the speech, the students, who were mostly minorities, swarmed the congresswoman. “It’s great to have a representative who looks like the people she represents,” a white student said.

Aaaand, we’re toast.

Ilhan Omar tells high school students a ‘true’ story that sounds suspiciously like Les Mis

Westlake Legal Group Ilhan-Omar-high-school Ilhan Omar tells high school students a ‘true’ story that sounds suspiciously like Les Mis The Blog MINNEAPOLIS Ilhan Omar

Six weeks ago, Rep. Omar made a visit to Richfield High School in Minneapolis where she spoke to several hundred students in the school’s auditorium. She posted this tweet after the visit:

The Washington Post reports that during her visit she told the students a story that was intended to offer some insight into her political history. This is the story she told. See if it sounds familiar to you? Five years earlier, she had been working for a city councilman and was asked to report back on any problems in the local courts:

There, she recalled encountering a “sweet, old . . . African American lady” who had been arrested for stealing a $2 loaf of bread to feed her “starving 5-year-old granddaughter.”

After spending the weekend in jail, the woman was led into the courtroom and fined $80 — a penalty she couldn’t pay. “I couldn’t control my emotions,” Omar continued, “because I couldn’t understand how a roomful of educated adults could do something so unjust.”

“Bulls—!” she recalled yelling in the courtroom.

Laughter rippled through the auditorium, then silence.

Omar’s story echoed the plot of “Les Miserables.” If true, it is also probably embellished. City officials said that police aren’t allowed to arrest people for shoplifting unless there’s a likelihood of violence or further crime. Typically, shoplifters are sentenced to attend a three-hour class.

I love every part of this story. I love the little old woman whose name was clearly Jean Valjean (and probably looked a little like that guy from the Wolverine movies, because I doubt Omar read the book).

I also love the emotional climax of the story in which Rep. Omar shouted an obscenity in the courtroom. Does anyone else think she’d have been found in contempt of court if she tried this? Also, if Omar was so outraged, why didn’t she just pay the $80 fine for the sweet old African American lady? I mean, a major injustice is happening right before her eyes but Omar just walked out and then used the story to publicly display her concern for the poor woman she didn’t help at all.

In an interview with the Post about the story, Omar admitted she may have gotten some of the details wrong: “She might have had a prior [arrest],” Omar said. “I’m not sure. . . . The details might not have all matched, but that’s what I remember.”

Next month, Omar will be telling Middle School kids the story of a poor woman named Fantine who was separated from her daughter Cosette at the border. When Omar witnessed this injustice she spontaneously burst into song in immigration court:

I dreamed a dream in time gone by,

When hope was high and life worth living!

It’s a true story. At least, that’s how Omar remembers it but some of the details may be a little off.

A pastor and his church are in hot water over permitting gay marriage.

Leaders of the Evangelical Covenant Church have defrocked Rev. Dan Collison and suspended his First Covenant Church. The decision was made via a 77% majority at the ECC’s annual conference in Omaha Friday night.

Downtown Minneapolis’s First Covenant is a founding member of the denomination, which was begun over 130 years ago. Until the 70’s it was one of the ECC’s largest members.

Dan took over in 2009.

And he’s saddened by the organizational dis, but at the same time, he’s cool with it:

“I feel grounded in the path we have chosen. I feel grateful for the pastors and churches who stood up for us. I feel compassion to those caught in the middle.”

So what caused the big hullabaloo?

In 2014, a member of the First Covenant staff presided over a wedding between two chicks. Both lovely ladies were in the church worship band.

FC also released a “love all” statement, welcoming LGBTQ congregants.

The house of worship offers pastoral care — which covers close encounters of the nuptials kind — “to all in our congregation without regard for ability, race, sex, gender identity or sexual orientation.”

Yeah — that definitely seems pretty pro-gay.

At the Friday meeting, leaders nominated Dan for defrocking because he opposed the ECC tenet of “celibacy in singleness and faithfulness in heterosexual marriage.”

ECC Executive Minister Michelle Sanchez lamented the emotional and complex elements of the suspension:

“The ECC is mindful of the complexity, the sensitivity and the pain that matters of human sexuality can bring. We talk about the desire for both freedom and responsibility as a denomination. Those two things were coming into tension in this case.”

President John Wenrich said he hopes “this historic church someday changes its mind and then returns to our family.”

Meanwhile, First Covenant’ll continue its operations as an independent church.

An Illinois man who faces trial in the 2017 bombing of a Minnesota mosque had tried to escape from custody earlier this year.

A court document filed by prosecutors says 48-year-old Michael Hari tried to flee when he was being transported to a Minnesota jail. The report gives no details about the escape attempt.

Prosecutors say Hari was later moved to another Minnesota jail, and was placed in administrative segregation after trying to disable a security device in his cell.

Hari is the leader of a white militia group in Clarence, Illinois, and alleged ringleader behind the attack at Dar al-Farooq Islamic Center in Bloomington, Minnesota. No one was injured in the bombing, which one co-defendant says was meant to scare Muslims into leaving the U.S.

Hari has pleaded not guilty. His two co-defendants have pleaded guilty .

Hari also faces charges in Illinois.

Nationally-ranked University of Minnesota heavyweight wrestler Gable Steveson and a teammate have been arrested on suspicion of criminal sexual conduct.

KARE-TV reports that an Athletics Department statement to the station confirmed the two men arrested were on the wrestling team.

They have not been charged.

KSTP-TV reports that jail records show Steveson and Dylan Martinez were arrested Saturday night at different times and places in Minneapolis. Authorities have not released details.

Steveson was a four-time state champion at Apple Valley High School and was ranked No. 3 nationally at the end of the season by a respected rankings service. Martinez was a transfer from Fresno City College.

The Athletics Department says they’ve been suspended from team activity pending further information. It says federal and state law precludes releasing further details.

This version of the story corrects the last name of the heavyweight wrestler to Steveson, not Stevenson.
