How Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s finances will be impacted by abrupt royal exit

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stunned the world and their own families with Wednesday’s major announcement that they will be stepping down as “senior members” of the royal family.

So to settle the confusion, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex provided answers on their website to the burning questions surrounding how this move toward monetary independence will impact their finances.

On SussexRoyal.com, Harry and Meghan explain that their decision will allow them to “earn a professional income,” which is a huge side-step from the current plan in place that prohibits exactly that.

“For this reason they have made the choice to become members of the Royal Family with financial independence. Their Royal Highnesses feel this new approach will enable them to continue to carry out their duties for Her Majesty The Queen, while having the future financial autonomy to work externally,” the couple informs their readers.

In order to release the financial ties between the married couple and the rest of the British royal family, the couple will no longer be covered by the Sovereign Grant, which they explain covers “just five percent of the costs for The Duke and Duchess,” adding that it is “specifically used for their official office expense.”

Harry and Meghan explain that the current structure in place has prohibited them from earning “any income in any form,” which means they also have not benefited financially from their charitable causes around the world.

But a burning debate topic since their royal announcement is how this will affect public funding. The Duke and Duchess explain that public funding has “never been used, nor would it ever be used for private expenditure.”

BUCKINGHAM PALACE RESPONDS TO MEGHAN MARKLE, PRINCE HARRY’S EXIT: ‘THESE ARE COMPLICATED ISSUES’

The couple also insisted they “do not receive any tax privileges,” according to the website.

Archie’s parents explained the breakdown of their funding, explaining that 95 percent of their office expenses are “derived from income allocated by HRH The Prince of Wales, generated through the Duchy of Cornwall.” The remaining five percent came from the Sovereign Grant.

Moving forward, the couple announced that they will continue to pay for their own private travel as they “always’ have been, which will have no burden on the UK taxpayers, they said.

“Wherever possible and unless advised otherwise on security grounds, their logistical arrangements are undertaken via commercial air carriers, local trains and fuel-efficient vehicles, be it for official or personal travel,” the couple wrote.

Additionally, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex broke down how their current titles have impacted the U.K. taxpayer.

“The contribution from UK taxpayers towards the full overhead of the British monarchy is equivalent to approximately £1 per head per year,” they wrote.

As a result, the return on the investment is an “estimated £1.8 billion a year in tourism revenues for The United Kingdom,” the website states.

While Harry and Meghan’s announcement on Wednesday appeared to be a plan set in stone, chaos has ensued at the palace, as the queen released a statement downplaying the royals’ hasty exit.

“Discussions with The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are at an early stage,” a Palace spokesman told Fox News late Wednesday. “We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through.”

Iran Strikes Harsh Tone After U.S. Backs Off Further Conflict

Westlake Legal Group 09iran-facebookJumbo Iran Strikes Harsh Tone After U.S. Backs Off Further Conflict United States International Relations Trump, Donald J Suleimani, Qassim Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps Iran Defense and Military Forces Deaths (Fatalities)

A day after President Trump backed away from further military conflict with Iran, a commander of the country’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps declared that Iran would soon take “harsher revenge” on the United States for a drone strike last week that killed a top Iranian general.

The slain commander, Maj. Gen. Qassim Suleimani, had led the Quds Force, a powerful branch of the corps, and his death reverberated across the country, prompting calls for revenge and retaliatory strikes by Iran against two military bases in Iraq.

The barrage of missiles on Wednesday took no American lives, Mr. Trump said, and appeared to have inflicted little damage on air bases in Al-Asad and Erbil that house thousands of Iraqi and American servicemen and women. And though Tehran said afterward that it had “concluded proportionate measures” to avenge the killing of General Suleimani, officials in the region cautioned that Iran might not be done maneuvering and had not abandoned its goal to drive the United States out of the Middle East.

A senior commander in the Revolutionary Guards, Abdollah Araghi, said on Thursday that Iran’s armed forces would “impose harsher revenge on the enemy in the near future,” according to a translated report from Iran’s Tasnim News Agency.

The deputy general of the Revolutionary Guards, Ali Fadavi, also pledged vengeance, according to a separate report from the English-language version of Tasnim.

“This move was one of the manifestations of our capabilities,” General Fadavi said in a speech in the central province of Isfahan on Thursday. “No country has ever made such a great move against the United States as we did. We dropped dozens of missiles into the heart of the U.S. base in Iraq and they couldn’t do a damn thing.”

The new leader of the Quds Force, Ismail Qaani, a longtime deputy of General Suleimani’s, released a statement on Thursday outlining his own commitment to moving forward with his predecessor’s agenda in the region, according to Tasnim. General Qaani added that the ultimate goal was to drive American forces out of the region.

As the rhetoric from Iran heated up, other international leaders were keen to de-escalate the situation.

The influential Iraqi Shiite cleric Moktada al-Sadr called on Iran-backed militia groups not to carry out further attacks, even as he stressed that Iraqis should still seek to expel foreign troops, Reuters reported.

“I call on the Iraqi factions to be deliberate, patient, and not to start military actions, and to shut down the extremist voices of some rogue elements until all political, parliamentary and international methods have been exhausted,” he was quoted as saying.

Pope Francis referred to the conflict on Thursday during an annual address to ambassadors to the Vatican. He said the tensions risked “compromising the gradual process of rebuilding in Iraq, as well as setting the groundwork for a vaster conflict that all of us would want to avert.” Francis appealed to the parties to return to “dialogue and self-restraint.”

The United Nations Security Council said it would meet on Thursday, and the tensions between Iran and the United States were likely to dominate an agenda tackling international peace and security.

Charles Michel, president of the European Council, the European Union’s decision-making body, said he had spoken to Iran’s president, Hassan Rouhani, on Thursday, according to a statement, and “expressed hopes that there will be no further attempts to increase tensions in the region leading to a de-escalation of the situation.”

The statement also noted that the European Union was dedicated to preserving the 2015 nuclear agreement Iran had negotiated with the governments of the United States, Britain, China, France, Germany and Russia — an agreement that Mr. Trump has denounced and abandoned.

In his speech on Wednesday pulling back from the brink of war, Mr. Trump appeared to open a small window for diplomacy with Iran even as he urged other countries to turn their backs on the nuclear agreement and promised further, unspecified sanctions against Iran.

Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Majid Takht-Ravanchi, said Mr. Trump’s offer to cooperate with Iran was “unbelievable” and that negotiations between the two countries would be meaningless if the United States continued aggression against Iran. The American sanctions against Iran amounted to “economic terrorism,” he added in an interview with the Iranian state news outlet IRNA.

The United States justified the drone strike that killed General Suleimani in a letter on Wednesday to the Security Council, calling the action self-defense, according to Reuters. Under the United Nations Charter, countries are required to immediately report to the Security Council any measures taken in self-defense.

In the letter, the American ambassador to the United Nations, Kelly Craft, said the United States stood “ready to engage without preconditions in serious negotiations with Iran, with the goal of preventing further endangerment of international peace and security or escalation by the Iranian regime.”

Kim Kardashian Shows Off Her Ginormous Refrigerator. Envy Is Served.

Westlake Legal Group 5e1705c624000059345a55f0 Kim Kardashian Shows Off Her Ginormous Refrigerator. Envy Is Served.

If you can’t stand the jealousy, get out of Kim Kardashian’s kitchen.

The reality show star took fans on an Instagram story video tour of her refrigerators and pantries Wednesday, prompting plenty of envy on Twitter. (See the clip below.)

Kim K showed off her bounty after negative reactions to a previous image she posted showing her in front of a sparsely filled refrigerator. That photo, she wrote, left fans wondering how she feeds her four kids.

And, boy, did she show ’em:

Kardashian displayed a pantry that took several steps to cross. It featured glass jars with various sprinkles for her frozen yogurt. We got a peek of her frozen yogurt machine in a separate pantry, freezers, a fridge for her drinks, a fridge with her kids’ different milks.

Then she strode into “the kitchen, where it all happens.”

The piece de resistance is a walk-in refrigerator with industrial shelves laden with fresh organic fruits and veggies.

“It did look like an empty refrigerator,” Kardashian acknowledged of the earlier photo, “But this is our big main refrigerator, guys.”

Twitter had no chill in responding.

Ted Cruz: Media and Dems have ‘lost their minds,’ act as apologists for Iran

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, ripped a fact check by The Associated Press that claimed President Trump spread a “false tale” about the Obama administration paying out billions of dollars to Iran as part of the Iran Nuclear Deal.

Appearing on “Fox News @ Night” Wednesday with host Shannon Bream, Cruz said that the AP and mainstream media have acted as apologists for Iran by “defending” their Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

“To serve as essentially apologists for the enemy of America, it’s really sad,” Cruz said. “I get that they don’t like Donald Trump. That is not lost on anybody. The media has lost their minds, many congressional Democrats have lost their minds.”

TED CRUZ: IRAN MISSILES FIRED AT IRAQI AIRBASES WERE ‘IN A VERY REAL SENSE’ PAID FOR BY BILLIONS THAT OBAMA SENT TEHRAN

In an address to the nation on Wednesday which the AP said “fell short on facts,” President Trump made an assertion that Iranian missiles fired at two Iraqi military bases housing U.S. forces were paid for by money “made available” to Iran by the previous administration.

It was a claim the AP labeled “as dubious as it was provocative.”

However, Cruz disputed the premise of the fact check.

“Listen, here’s a very simple principle: money is fungible,” said Cruz.

“Under the catastrophic Obama Iran Nuclear Deal, the United States allowed between $100 billion and $150 billion to flow directly into Iran,” he said.

CLICK HERE FOR THE FOX NEWS APP

Cruz’s claim directly contradicted the AP, which wrote that there was no $150 billion payout, but that there was a transfer of $1.8 billion to Iran to settle “an old IOU.”

“The Obama administration sent $1.7 billion in cash, in unmarked bills, on pallets in the dead of night on a plane flown into Iran…” he recalled.

“Money is fungible and when you flood the Ayatollah — who is chanting ‘death to America’ — with over $100 billion, in a very real sense that money and the Obama administration allowed to flow into Iran is what helped fund those missiles that were attacking our servicemen and women [on Tuesday] night,” Cruz concluded, referring to Iraniani assets unfrozen as part of the deal.

Tesla crash site in Indiana being probed by NHTSA

The U.S. government’s road safety agency is sending a special team to Indiana to investigate a fatal crash involving a Tesla electric vehicle.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Wednesday that its team will check the crash scene and inspect the Model 3 vehicle involved in the Dec. 29 crash with a parked firetruck on Interstate 70 near Terre Haute.

Westlake Legal Group ISP-TESLA Tesla crash site in Indiana being probed by NHTSA fox-news/us/us-regions/midwest/indiana fox-news/auto/make/tesla fox-news/auto/attributes/safety fnc/auto fnc Associated Press article 0929142d-fa78-50ac-9df8-1669f51f6e95

(Indiana State Police)

The crash, which killed the driver’s wife who was a passenger in the Tesla, is the second one to be investigated in the past two weeks by NHTSA. Also on Dec. 29, a Tesla Model S sedan left a freeway in Gardena, Calif., at a high speed, ran a red light and struck a Honda Civic, killing two people inside, police said. The agency dispatched its special crash investigation unit to the site on New Year’s Eve.

In both cases, authorities have yet to determine whether the Teslas were operating on Autopilot, a system designed to keep a car in its lane and a safe distance from other vehicles. Autopilot also can change lanes on its own.

Tesla has said repeatedly that its Autopilot system is designed only to assist drivers, who must still pay attention and be ready to intervene at all times. The company contends that Teslas with Autopilot are safer than vehicles without it, but cautions that the system does not prevent all crashes.

NHTSA’s crash program has inspected 23 crashes involving vehicles that the agency believed were operating on some form of partially automated advanced driver assist system. Fourteen of these cases involved Tesla models. The team investigates more than 100 crashes per year.

The firetruck in the Indiana crash was in the freeway travel lanes with its lights flashing as crews handled a different problem.

Also, on Dec. 7, yet another Model 3 struck a police cruiser on a Connecticut highway, though no one was hurt. NHTSA also is investigating that crash.
