Clinton ‘exactly wrong’ on Trump indictment claims: Whitewater independent counsel Robert Ray

Whitewater independent counsel Robert Ray explained why he believes Hillary Clinton is “exactly wrong” to claim President Trump would have been indicted if he weren’t president.

Ray said he believes the report disputes that, adding that Barr speaking to Special Counsel Robert Mueller prior to the release of the report — and his press conference — only further weight on the opposite side of Clinton’s claim.

“That is why the attorney general, before the report was released to the public went back to the special counsel apparently on more than one occasion, as he said in his press conference,” Ray said during a Wednesday appearance on “Fox and Friends.

GIULIANI KNOCKS CLINTON’S TRUMP INDICTMENT CLAIMS, SAYS OLD DOJ POLICY OF ‘YOU CANNOT INDICT A CLINTON’ WILL CHANGE

He continued, claiming the purpose of going back to Robert Mueller was “to inquire about” whether the reason why Trump wasn’t indicted is that he’s sitting president.

“The answer that came back is, no, that is not what I’m saying,” Ray said.

“So I know people in some quarters don’t want to listen to what the attorney general actually said but while that is a reasonable question, Hillary Clinton has it exactly wrong. That is not the reason.”

“So I know people in some quarters don’t want to listen to what the attorney general actually said but while that is a reasonable question Hillary Clinton has it exactly wrong. That is not the reason.”

— Whitewater independent counsel Robert Ray

The former prosecutor’s comments came amid Clinton’s remarks during the “TIME 100 Summit” in New York on Tuesday, in which she said Trump would have been indicted by the Special Counsel if he weren’t president.

“I think there’s enough there that any other person who had engaged in those acts would certainly have been indicted,” Clinton said. “But because of the rule in the Justice Department that you can’t indict a sitting president, the whole matter of obstruction was very directly sent to the Congress.”

But Ray said that unlike Trump, Clinton has to thank departmental policy and former FBI director James Comey’s discretion for not charging her with the crime over her email use.

“I think that there was lots of discussion in the justice department about how it was appropriate to resolve that investigation,” he said.

“But the bottom line is the exercise of discretion and departmental policy is what Hillary Clinton has to thank for the fact that she wasn’t charged with a criminal offense.”

Ray added that when FBI Director James Comey announced that charges won’t be brought against Clinton, it was an issue as Comey wasn’t a prosecutor at the time and just an FBI official who stepped “outside of his lane to resolve a criminal case which is a judgment that the department should have made based on application of department policy.”

He compared that situation to Mueller, who was appointed and who was able to indict the president if he felt he had sufficient grounds.

“This is a situation where you have a special counsel who is a former FBI director who is in the position of being special counsel who has decided that the traditional prosecutorial factors and the exercise of discretion would not be exercised by him but ultimately had to be exercised by the attorney general Bill Barr,” Ray said.

Class-action lawsuits filed against Fisher-Price, Mattel following recall of ‘Rock ‘n Play Sleeper’ linked to infant deaths

Two class-action lawsuits have reportedly been filed against Fisher-Price and Mattel following the recall of the Fisher-Price Rock ‘n Play Sleeper, which has been linked to 32 infant deaths.

Approximately 4.7 million of the units were recalled on April 12, after the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) determined the fatalities occurred “after the infants rolled from their back to their stomach or side while unrestrained, or under other circumstances.”

BLOOD PRESSURE MEDICATION RECALLED OVER POSSIBLE CANCER CAUSING INGREDIENT

The first of the two lawsuits, filed by Delaware couple Samantha Drover-Mundy and Zachary Mundy, would potentially include claimants nationwide, while the second, filed by Cassandra Mulvey of New York, would include those within that state, USA Today reports.

The former lawsuit is also seeking to include claimants who purchased the sleepers, as well as those whose children were hurt, in separate classes. Both lawsuits are seeking unspecified damages.

“This recall was too late to save the lives of more than 30 infants and to prevent the injuries of numerous other infants caused by the Rock ‘n Play,” the first lawsuit states, according to USA Today.

Prior to the April 12 recall, Fisher-Price had issued a warning to parents, telling them not to place children in the sleepers “when infants can roll over,” after announcing that 10 babies had died since 2015.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) later demanded the item be recalled, citing Consumer Reports’ analysis that recorded 32 infant deaths involving the product between 2011 and 2018.

“Stores should remove the ‘Rock ‘N Play Sleeper’ from their shelves,” the AAP’s statement read. “A warning issued by the CPSC and Fisher-Price on April 5 did not go far enough to ensure safety and protect infants.”

Parents who owned the sleeper are urged to contact Fisher-Price for a refund or voucher.

The product is advertised as a place for infants to nap or sleep and includes a vibration setting for comfort. In its initial statement, Fisher-Price said the product “meets all applicable safety standards, including those of the international standards organization, known as ASTM International, and is certified by the Juvenile Products Manufacturing Association (JPMA).”

But AAP’s chair of the Task Force on Sudden Infant Death Syndrom (SIDS) said the product fails to meet the group’s recommendations for a “safe sleep environment.”

“Infants should always sleep on their back, on a separate, flat and firm sleep surface without any bumpers or bedding,” Rachel Moon, MD, FAAP, said in a statement.

The AAP does not recommend any sleeping products for infants or any products that require restraining a baby. It also advises against using car seats, strollers or other devices for sleeping due to the risk of rollover leading to possible suffocation or strangulation.

Dozens of mummies, including mother and child, discovered in Egyptian tomb

Archaeologists in Egypt have discovered a tomb containing dozens of mummies, including the remains of a mother and child.

The rock-cut tomb was found in the southern city of Aswan. Inside, archaeologists found more than 30 mummies. These include two “superimposed mummies,” which archaeologists believe are likely a mother and child.

In a Facebook post, Egypt’s Ministry of Antiquities said that the tomb is from the Greco-Roman period, which began with Alexander the Great in 332 B.C. The statement said archaeologists found artifacts, including decorated masks, vases, coffin fragments and cartonnages — chunks of linen or papyrus glued together.

A well-preserved statuette of Ba-bird, which represents the souls of the deceased, was also found.

Within the tomb’s main chamber, archaeologists also found a stretcher made from palm wood and linen strips that would have been used for depositing the bodies. “At the entrance of the room, vessels containing bitumen for mummification, white cartonnage ready to be painted and a lamp have been discovered,” officials explained.

The tomb was discovered near the mausoleum of the Aga Khan, who lobbied for Muslim rights in India and who was buried there after his death in 1957.

Egypt continues to reveal fresh details of its rich history. Archaeologists, for example, recently uncovered the 2,500-year-old remains of a powerful ancient Egyptian high priest. In another project, the secrets of a mysterious “Tomb of the Warriors,” were revealed in a PBS documentary.

Archaeologists have also discovered the wreck of an extremely rare vessel that traveled the Nile around 2,500 years ago, solving an ancient puzzle.

Elsewhere in Egypt, researchers found a large ram-headed sphinx that is linked to King Tutankhamun’s grandfather. In other projects, a teenage girl’s skeleton was discovered in a mysterious grave near the Meidum pyramid, south of Cairo.

In January, archaeologists announced the discovery of ancient tombs in the Nile Delta north of Cairo. In a separate project, two ancient tombs dating back to the Roman period were uncovered in Egypt’s Western Desert.

In November 2018, researchers confirmed the discovery of eight limestone sarcophagi containing mummies at a site 25 miles south of Cairo. Last year, researchers also uncovered a “massive” building that was once part of Egypt’s ancient capital city.

Girl, 6, suffers horrific burns after candle ignites sofa in neighboring apartment

The mother of a 6-year-old Indiana girl is warning about the dangers of candles after her daughter sustained horrific burns across 68 percent of her small body, when a candle engulfed a sofa in flames in a neighboring apartment unit.

On Dec. 16, 2018, as thick, black smoke filled Jared Mosgrove’s Lafayette apartment, the father grabbed son Liam, 11, and daughter Teagan, 4 — though he couldn’t find Kenzie, 6, in the dark, The Lafayette Journal & Courier reports.

“She couldn’t get to me,” the heartbroken dad remembered.

Trapped in the fiery space for three minutes, firefighters soon rescued Kenzie, who had been severely burned in the blaze.

According to the Journal & Courier, the devastating fire began in the apartment unit below Jared’s, when a candle fell onto a couch around 6:30 p.m., as per the outlet.

OKLAHOMA INFANT SUFFERS SECOND-DEGREE BURNS AFTER PULLING SLOW COOKER OFF COUNTER, MOM SAYS

Though the residents were able to escape quickly, little Kenzie was not so lucky.

Hospitalized in critical condition and soon airlifted to a specialized children’s infirmary, the girl’s mother, Jessica, said that her daughter sustained traumatic burns on 68 percent of her body in the accident, The Daily Mirror reports. Kenzie underwent six surgeries in one month “to clear her skin of infection that had been caused by the density of her burns,” later enduring skin grafts and amputations of her left fingers and toes.

“It was only two days after she went to hospital that Kenzie had her first surgery to help reduce all of the swelling in her body,” the mom told the Mirror. “From this point onwards, Kenzie had biweekly surgeries to remove all of the dead skin and replace it with the surviving skin on her thigh, as well as clearing her body from infection that she had accrued.”

“Unfortunately on her third surgery, Kenzie had to have her beautiful blonde hair removed, as the burns had covered her scalp also,” mom Jessica revealed. (Caters News Agency)

“Unfortunately on her third surgery, Kenzie had to have her beautiful blonde hair removed, as the burns had covered her scalp also,” Jessica revealed of the procedure, which happened just two days after Christmas.

“But the most devastating news came before her forth surgery on Jan. 3, when we were told that she would have to have her fingers and toes on the left side of her body removed, as they had completely died,” the mom lamented.

“This was one of the hardest things for her to understand, as she suddenly woke up and couldn’t figure out where her hands and fingers had gone — which completely broke my heart.”

The brave little girl, meanwhile, was moved to the rehab unit in February and she has already been able to walk without her left toes, according to the Mirror.

Discharged from the hospital in March, Kenzie returned to school in April, despite the challenge of having to wear to splints and garments for 22 hours a day.

“Kenzie is a very brave girl and has made amazing progress since leaving hospital — we are all so very proud of her,” Jessica said. “One of the sayings that has kept her going is ‘I’m beautiful, I’m strong, I’ve walked through fire – what’s your superpower?’ and this has been prominent in her journey.

Nevertheless, the concerned parent knows her daughter’s life “is going to be altered forever” because of the accident — and wants others to be aware of the life-altering damage that open flames in the household can truly pose.

“As amazing as she is, this situation could have easily been avoided if a candle wasn’t lit in the first place — and that’s what I want people to know,” Jessica told the Mirror. “Hopefully by seeing what my baby has been through, people will stop leaving candles unattended and see the life changing affects it can have.”

A GoFundMe has raised over $7,000 to date for Kenzie’s continued care, while her family has also launched a T-shirt fundraiser to help with the bills for her recovery.

Stuart Varney, host of “Varney & Co.” on Fox Business, said Wednesday the new Wall Street record high can be attributed to the “Trump growth agenda,” which he said “has been wildly successful.”

Varney made the statements on “Fox & Friends” the morning after the S&P 500 hit an all-time high, recovering from last year’s dramatic plunge.

“We’re in earnings season. That’s the time when the big corporations tell us how much money did you make. That’s what they are telling us right now,” said Varney, a Fox News business contributor on “Fox & Friends.”

WALL STREET’S IN RECORD GROUND. WHAT DO INVESTORS DO NOW?

“The expectation was the profits would go down. Instead, we got profits going up very nicely. I challenge you. Go and look at your 401(k). Look at your IRA. I guarantee you will smile because since President Trump was elected in November of 2016, the value of all stocks has gone up by $9.4 trillion.”

He added, “Middle America has got a piece of that, your 401(k), your pension plan, you got a piece of that. And it’s gone up like that because of the Trump growth agenda. It has been wildly successful. The economy is expanding. The market’s at record highs.”

Varney predicted the economy will continue to do well “if profits continue to go to record levels.”

ANNUAL ECONOMIC GROWTH HITS 3 PERCENT, DEFYING PREDICTIONS OF TRUMP CRITICS

Last month, the White House touted economic numbers that some well-known economists once predicted would never happen under President Trump.

The conflicting predictions came early in 2017, when Trump and his official budget proposal forecast more than 3 percent annual economic growth under his presidency.

According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the economy grew at a 3.1 percent rate from the fourth quarter of 2017 to the fourth quarter of 2018, one measure of annual growth. That marked the first time in 13 years that it had been over 3 percent, the White House noted. The administration attributed the gains to tax cuts, deregulation and other pro-growth policies.

“I believe 41 states are now bringing in more money than they did I think 10 years ago before the crash. So you’re back to where you were before the crash. That is entirely the result of President Trump’s growth agenda,” Varney said Wednesday.

“The economy is growing, 3, maybe a bit more than that 3 percent. The stock market record highs. In comes the money to state governments. It’s a success story. It’s the Trump growth agenda success story. Case closed.”

Authorities in Australia claim that they stopped one of the largest illegal wildlife smuggling attempts at the Melbourne International Airport.

A 27-year-old Japanese woman allegedly attempted to sneak 19 lizards out of the country by hiding them in her luggage. The suspect was arrested at the airport and faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison or a fine of $210,000. The Australian Border Force (ABF) reportedly targeted the woman after receiving a tip about her from sources in Hong Kong.

Due to presence of ticks on several of the lizards, it is believed that they were caught in the wild. The suspect could face additional wildlife and cruelty charges. She is set to appear in court on April 24th.

Westlake Legal Group 6XTXfh1C7LaxkPsXWrtpbeWzv4BYQsuO7axzP-bmd-4 Elizabeth Warren keeps offering detailed policy proposals. Why do so few Democrats seem to care? r/politics

Then why is there literally zero grassroots activity on Reddit? I just posted the following elsewhere:

/r/WarrenForPresident is blocked, presumably by either internal activist/staff, or by those from other campaigns / The Right trying to obstruct her campaign. I have /r/Warren_For_President open and available for activists, and it looks like another user is trying to move forward with /r/Warren_ForPresident. (Edit: It has since between pointed out there ALSO exists /r/PresidentWarren . There is also /r/ElizabethWarren

All of these have incredibly lackluster activity.

As a disclaimer, my position is a little complicated. In short, I was for Sanders in 2016, ended up voting for Hillary in general, and thought I would be 100% onboard with a Warren candidacy, thinking Sanders would not run. Given the dynamics of this election cycle, I’m still undecided albeit leaning Warren slightly. After reading articles and viewing respective interviews and town-halls, it’s my prediction at this point that Warren, Sanders, and Buttigieg will be united front-runner progressives VS. Joe Biden, the centrist with name recognition. The split among progressives may invoke an inverted spoiler scenario of what got Trump nominated during the RNC primaries, where Joe wins by the plurality while progressives are spread among 3-5 candidates… How can this be dealt with? Of course Ranked-Choice voting, but good luck getting the DNC to adopt that. There could be an initiative to put pressure on the DNC for this, but it would have to be massive.

Whatever the case, Warren should be receiving more attention than she is currently getting. She deserves more. I hope there is a renewed initiative to get her name and story and background out there for the sake of choosing the best candidate for 2020. /r/SandersForPresident had quite a large impact in 2016 for Sanders, and the same is needed for Warren if she wants to garner grassroots momentum.

More millennials are hitting the road in trailers, RVs

IndyCar driver Charlie Kimball shows off the RV he and his wife Kathleen used to travel during race season, and the home away from home they will take as they travel through national parks on their way home from Sonoma Raceway. The Indianapolis Star

Whether it’s Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz traveling across the country in “The Long, Long Trailer” or Iggy Pop spending time at home with Mom and Dad, Americans love their campers.

Now the iconic symbol of middle-class success is gaining ground with a new audience: millennials, who not only are traveling the country in them but renting the wheeled living quarters through Airbnb.

According to the Recreational Vehicle Industry Association, RV shipments saw their second-best year in 2018, with 483,672 units. Shipments were down only 4.1% from 2017’s record-setting year of 504,600 units.

The surging demand also is fueling the market for classic campers.

Organizations like the Tin Can Tourists (TCT), a nationwide group celebrating its 100th year in 2019, draw collectors looking for vintage style and design.

“I like the design, the shape of the unit, to the fabrics used inside, to the woodwork,” said TCT member and Hall of Famer John Truitt regarding vintage travel trailers. “I like how it reflects past eras of design and workmanship.”

Millennials move in

More than a million American households have started camping each year since 2014, with millennials making up 38% of the 75 million active camper households, according to the New York Times.

Truitt said the group is seeing more interest from younger members, with many in their late 20s and early 30s.

Lauren Albrecht of Holly, Michigan, became fascinated with vintage trailers after her family traded in their pop-up camper with her grandfather’s Avion camper. The 26-year-old is in TCT with her parents and is “obsessed with all things vintage.”

“It’s cool to see the trailers restored,” she said. “That’s the most fun aspect of our group besides the people we camp with. Everyone is so creative, and they really care about preserving the history of these trailers.”

Edward Byrnes 38, of Commerce Township, Michigan, first became aware of TCT after a member happened to be walking by while he was working on a 1959 Fan trailer in his driveway. Byrnes and his girlfriend, Jessica Neff, ended up going to their first TCT rallyin 2017.

“One of the reasons Jessica and I got together was our affinity for vintage campers,” he said. “After the rally, we were hooked, and attended as many rallies as we could. That is until we purchased an aging home that now requires much of our time for renovations.”

When the couple is able to go camping, Byrnes said he enjoys the “smell of campfire smoke in the air, making memories and enjoying the company of other TCT members.”

RV brands are taking notice in the demographic shift and are designing trailers geared toward 20- and 30-somethings.

Perhaps the most iconic of all the RVs on the road is Airstream, resembling a gleaming silver bullet.

Airstream — which saw its fifth consecutive year of growth, with sales increasing to 218% — offers a compact RV called the Nest. Weighing 3,400 pounds, the mid-size trailer offers a two-stove burner, microwave and bathroom. Users can also change the colors of the interior lighting with a smartphone app. Prices start at $45,900.

Another popular choice is the TAG Teardrop Boondock by NuCamp RVs. The compact towable, which weighs 2,900 pounds, starts at $15,000.

Even car companies such as Volkswagen are jumping back into the camper game with the launch of its California Camper Van last year. In addition, VW is making sure its conventional vehicles have enough power to carry trailers. The Atlas SUV has a 5,000 pound towing capability.

Can’t afford an RV? Airbnb offers RVs to rent. Spend the weekend “glamping” or glamorous camping in Los Angeles in a 1969 Airstream Globetrotter. Located in the San Gabriel Mountains, campers can take in the sights of L.A. such as the Hollywood sign, and the city skyline. The cost? Two hundred thirty-six dollars per night.

For something more rustic, Airbnb offers a vintage Airstream in Wimberley, Texas, near San Antonio and Austin. For $130 per night, the RV includes a hot tub, outdoor shower, patio grill, fire pit and a selection of Western movies.

Campers in pop culture

Campers and RVs over the years have come to symbolize Americana.

The 1954 film, the “Long, Long Trailer” and Lucille Ball’s vacation rock collection set the standard for comedy.

James Osterberg Jr., better known as punk rock artist Iggy Pop, grew up in a Coachville Mobile Home park in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He talks about growing up in the 500-square-foot trailer with his parents in the Jim Jarmusch film, “Gimme Danger,” released in 2016.

Robin Williams celebrated camping life in the 2006 film, “RV,” and they’ve been featured in other movies ranging from “National Lampoon’s Vacation” to “Meet the Parents.”

Florida sheriff Scott Israel, blamed in Parkland shooting aftermath, is dealt blow by state’s Supreme Court

Florida’s Supreme Court dealt a blow Tuesday to Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel, ruling Gov. Ron DeSantis had the legal authority to remove the embattled lawman from office amid widespread criticism Israel failed to prevent the Parkland high school shooting.

The state’s highest court said DeSantis was within his rights when he suspended Israel from the Broward post in January. The justices noted, however, that, under the Florida Constitution, the state Senate is responsible for deciding whether the removal should be permanent.

“Today’s Florida Supreme Court opinion leaves no doubt of my authority as governor to suspend a government official for neglect of duty and incompetence,” DeSantis said in a statement shortly after the decision was handed down. “Scott Israel failed in his duties to protect the families and students of Broward County, and the time for delay tactics is at an end. I look forward to the Florida Senate resuming the process of formal removal.”

FLORIDA GOVERNOR SAYS SHERIFF ALSO DROPPED THE BALL ON FORT LAUDERDALE AIRPORT SHOOTING

The next hearing on the matter is scheduled for May 28, according to the Associated Press.

Israel’s lawyers argued during the case that DeSantis overstepped his constitutional authority and interfered with the public’s right to elect the sheriff. He intends to challenge the suspension in the Florida Senate, his lawyer said.

“With today’s ruling, local elected officials now need to be aware of the potential for governor overreach when discharging their duties,” Israel’s attorney Ben Kuehne said.

Calls for Israel’s ouster began shortly after the high school shooting massacre when it was revealed the deputy assigned as the school’s resource officer, Scot Peterson, had not gone into the building to confront the shooter, but instead took cover outside.

The heat on Israel increased after it emerged the sheriff’s office received — and disregarded — calls in 2016 and 2017 warning that Nikolas Cruz, who carried out the bloodbath, was a potential school shooter. Deputies also had about 20 contacts with Cruz as a juvenile — mostly due to arguments with his now-deceased mother.

Israel has said none of those contacts warranted an arrest. Law enforcement members of the state commission investigating the shooting have agreed with that conclusion.

Cruz remains jailed, charged with 17 counts of first-degree murder.

Boston Bruins star David Pastrnak mocked pop superstar — and avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan — Justin Bieber after the Bruins’ Game 7 victory that allowed Boston to advance to the next round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Bieber made an appearance at the game with his wife, Hailey Baldwin, and the star couple watched live as the Bruins clobbered Bieber’s beloved Maple Leafs, 5-1. Pastrnak, who scored twice in Game 4, later took to social media to mock Bieber.

Pastrnak finished with two goals and six points in the series against the Maple Leafs.

Toronto fans blamed Bieber for the drubbing (despite the “Sorry” singer not actually playing or coaching in the game) and directed their Internet rage his way after the loss, according to For The Win.

Maple Leafs fans are at least consistent in blaming music stars for their team’s failures: earlier in the series, Drake was lambasted for “cursing” the team during a Game 4 loss.
