Trump attacks ‘Cryin’ Chuck Schumer after senator said US ‘sold out’ on China deal

Westlake Legal Group Trump-Schumer_AP Trump attacks 'Cryin' Chuck Schumer after senator said US 'sold out' on China deal Sam Dorman fox-news/world/world-regions/china fox-news/person/donald-trump fox-news/person/chuck-schumer fox news fnc/politics fnc article 0c41d3f4-712f-56d4-9d5f-d0043b2eca76 /FOX NEWS/WORLD/GLOBAL ECONOMY/Trade

President Trump forcefully denounced Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., on Saturday, apparently responding to the senator’s criticism of Trump’s trade negotiations with China.

“Chuck Schumer sat for years during the Obama Administration and watched as China ripped off the United States,” Trump tweeted.

“He & the Do Nothing Democrats did NOTHING as this $ carnage took place. Now, without even seeing it, he snipes at our GREAT new deal with China. Too bad Cryin’ Chuck!”

Trump recently secured “phase one” of a trade deal with the Asian powerhouse but, according to Schumer, made concessions that weakened negotiations.

ANDY PUZDER: TRUMP’S CHINA TRADE DEAL BRINGS US GREAT BENEFITS, FULFILLS CAMPAIGN PROMISE

“There are huge structural inequities, structural and unfair imbalances, with China’s trade relationships with the U.S.,” Schumer said in a statement on Friday.

“At first, President Trump seemed like the only president who would dare tackle this challenge; but now, according to reports, he has sold out for a temporary and unreliable promise from China to purchase some soybeans. We’ve heard this song and dance from China before. Once again, Donald Trump cannot be relied upon to do the right thing for American workers and businesses, even when his statements were pointing in the right direction.”

Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., wasn’t happy with the deal either. He tweeted that the agreement was a “total capitulation” and would result in continual job loss.

On Friday, the White House described the deal as a “tremendous victory” that would “deliver an incredible boost to American manufacturers, service providers, farmers, and more.”

The limited trade deal that the Trump administration and Beijing announced Friday means Americans will avoid a holiday tax increase on imported toys, clothing and smartphones. U.S. farmers can sell more soybeans and pork to China. And American companies should face less pressure to hand over trade secrets to Beijing.

But what the administration gained from the so-called Phase 1 deal that President Donald Trump celebrated falls well short of the demands the president issued when he launched a trade war against Beijing 17 months ago. Further rounds of negotiations will be required to achieve a more significant agreement.

Peter Navarro: Trump wins major victories in China and USMCA trade deals, defense spending and Space Force

PROGRAMMING ALERT: Watch Peter Navarro discuss this topic and more in the noon hour EST on Sunday, Dec. 14 on “America’s News HQ” on Fox News Channel.

Two strong trade deals, plus one strong deal on defense and parental leave, plus two weak impeachment articles, plus one inspector general’s report vindicating no one equals a very good week for the American people and President Trump.

After the United States-Mexico-Canada trade agreement (USMCA) gathered political dust on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s impeachment desk for over a year, the California Democrat finally agreed to let House members vote on the measure.

Through tough regional content rules and strict labor and environmental provisions, USMCA is forecast to create over 75,000 new auto jobs and almost 200,000 new jobs overall.

ANDY PUZDER: TRUMP’S CHINA TRADE DEAL BRINGS US GREAT BENEFITS, FULFILLS CAMPAIGN PROMISE

USMCA will also break down Canadian and Mexican agricultural barriers – a boon for American dairy, poultry and wheat farmers. It should pass both chambers of Congress by comfortable margins.

After a similarly long gestation period, the United States and China completed a “phase one” trade agreement. It represents an important milestone along President Trump’s long march towards ending China’s economic aggression against American workers and manufacturers.

The centerpiece of the deal is a strong and effective enforcement mechanism. The United States can impose proportionate penalties without fear of retaliation if China violates the deal’s provisions on intellectual property theft, forced technology transfer, or currency manipulation.

In another boon for American farmers, China has also committed to a dramatic increase in purchases of pork, soybeans and other agricultural products. To ensure China negotiates in good faith on Phase Two of the deal, tariffs remain in place on over $350 billion of Chinese imports.

With respect to defense, the president will soon sign the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) of 2020, which, among other things, establishes the United States Space Force, ensuring American dominance in space. The NDAA will also create paid parental leave for federal workers, which will greatly benefit their children. Finally, it will give our troops a much-needed 3.1 percent pay raise.

More from Opinion

On the impeachment front, the Democratic-controlled House, at war with itself, jettisoned its fruitless efforts to slap any specific crime on President Trump based on any actual law. No explicit high crime. No bribery. No misdemeanor.

Instead, the House settled on the two weakest articles of impeachment ever brought against a sitting president. “Obstruction of Congress” is laughable in the face of the executive branch’s right to executive privilege.

As for “abuse of power,” this charge is as vague as a June day is long. As one wag put it, “a turkey big enough to stuff any phony allegation you want into it.”

To be clear, President Trump is simply doing what the American people hired him to do – in the case of Ukraine, ensuring that American tax dollars are being used properly and free of foreign corruption to advance our national security.

Finally, the Justice Department inspector general’s long-awaited report revealed a deep-seated conspiracy within the FBI and elements of the intelligence community to overthrow a sitting president. This conspiracy began with the Hillary Clinton campaign paying for a fake dossier compiled by an avowed Never Trumper and former British spy Christopher Steele.

Rogue elements within the FBI and intelligence community then engaged in at least 17 separate instances of omitting or altering data to use the phony Steele dossier to obtain a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant to spy on the Trump campaign.

This egregious behavior by a few bad apples in the FBI bunch triggered a more than two-year witch hunt that finally ended in a report by Special Counsel Robert Mueller that found no collusion with Russia by President Trump, his campaign, or his administration.

At this point, every American concerned about economic growth and prosperity should be cheered by President Trump’s great achievement with the USMCA and China deal. Every American should be equally appalled by a hyper-partisan impeachment process that is right out of a William Faulkner novel – “all sound and fury signifying nothing.”

Over the next several weeks, Americans have many reasons to celebrate the holiday season. And as we enter this new decade, we should look forward to the continuation of a strong economy and bullish market under President Trump’s leadership.

Chris Pratt couldn’t contain his love for wife Katherine Schwarzenegger.

The Marvel star took to social media to wish her a happy 30th birthday and gush over what an “incredible” partner and step-mom she is.

“Happy Birthday Katherine! So happy to have you in my life,” he wrote on Friday.

“I don’t know what I’d do without you. Probably get locked out on the balcony somehow and have to live there or be wandering around some city with an uncharged phone and only one shoe, late for work like some kind of anxiety fever dream.

“I honestly don’t even want to think about it. You’ve changed my whole world for the better. I’m so grateful to have found you.

‘You’re an incredible wife and step mom. And I’m so excited to celebrate you all weekend!,” the former “Parks and Recreation” concluded.

Pratt shares his seven-year-old son, Jack, with ex-wife Anna Faris. They were married from 2009 – 2018. He then tied the knot with  Schwarzenegger in June in Montecito, California.

Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., said on Saturday that Senate Republicans might call Hunter Biden, former Vice President Joe Biden’s son, as a witness during a would-be impeachment trial in his chamber.

“If it turns out Democrats want to call a bunch of witnesses, we’ll call Hunter Biden. I mean, we can do a tit for tat,” Cassidy told Fox News host Neil Cavuto on Saturday.

Cassidy was speaking on “Cavuto Live” amid the House’s deliberation of articles of impeachment. Throughout the impeachment inquiry, Republicans have called attention to the younger Biden whose business with Ukraine appeared to prompt President Trump’s request that the nation investigate the Bidens.

House Democrats appeared to have enough votes to approve impeachment, meaning the Senate will likely have to initiate a trial surroudning Trump’s potential removal from office.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., has already quashed any possibility that the GOP-led Senate would remove Trump from office.

Cassidy complained that Democrats’ impeachment push was sucking up resources for Congress to pursue issues about which the American people actually cared.

“This is, if you will, sucking up all of the energy that could be used for positive things,” he said. “Democrats seem more motivated about hatred of the president than they do about what is actually supposed to be taking place,” he added.

Around that time, Cassidy’s grandson popped into the shot. “Excuse me,” Cassidy said while laughing off the surprise appearance. Cassidy’s office said the senator gave him stern instructions to stay in his own chair. “As soon as the camera flipped on, he saw his opportunity. I had to laugh,” Cassidy told Fox News on Saturday.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Friday rejected a restructuring plan from the state’s largest utility Pacific Gas & Electric.

Christian Monterrosa/AP

California Gov. Gavin Newsom rejected a bankruptcy restructuring plan by the state’s largest utility, saying it “falls woefully short” of safety standards mandated under state law.

The governor’s criticisms come a week after Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) announced a multi-billion dollar settlement proposal to pay victims of several wildfires linked to the utility’s faulty equipment.

Newsom’s move complicates PG&E’s efforts to both maintain control of its operations and move quickly through bankruptcy proceedings. PG&E declared bankruptcy in January, announcing it faced potential liabilities of $30 billion.

In a letter to PG&E CEO William Johnson, Newsom said the utility’s restructuring plans “do not result in a reorganized company positioned to provide safe, reliable, and affordable service to its customers.”

He added: “I believe the Amended Plan falls woefully short on the requirements of AB 1054,” referring to the recent California law requiring big power companies pay into a state fund to cover future costs of wildfires caused by utility equipment.

PG&E announced a settlement agreement of more than 13 billion dollars earlier this month that would cover all claims associated with several deadly fires in recent years. In a Dec. 6 statement, PG&E said those fires include the deadly 2018 Camp Fire; the 2017 Tubbs Fire; the 2016 Ghost Ship Fire and 2015 Butte Fire, which together destroyed thousands of homes and other structures.

Newsom’s approval of the restructuring plan is not required under state law, as the Los Angeles Times points out, adding “PG&E asked the governor to weigh in after reaching a $13.5-billion settlement with victims of some of California’s worst wildfires on record last week.”

Jennifer Robison, a spokesperson for PG&E told the Los Angeles Times that the company disagreed with the governor’s assessment of the restructuring plan, adding the utility would be working “diligently in the coming days to resolve any issues that may arise.”

The paper notes the utility has until Tuesday to submit a revised proposal.

The Sacramento Bee, referred to the governor’s letter as a “stunning rebuke” that came just days after PG&E presumed it had reached a settlement deal with lawyers representing “more than 70,000 wildfire victims.” The paper added:

“But the utility wasn’t home free after all. Now it will have to overhaul the proposal, and quickly.”

Under California’s AB 1054 law, approved in July, a $21 billion-dollar insurance fund was created to pay for new fire damages. But in order for PG&E to tap into that fund, the utility has to wrap up Chapter 11 bankruptcy by June 30, 2020.

Indiana police say man’s paper license plate in crayon led to car theft arrest

A homemade paper license plate scrawled in crayon on a grocery bag led to the arrest in Indiana of a man in stolen car.

Initially, Indiana troopers thought Joshua Lewis-Brown was a 20-year-old stranded motorist from New York in need of a tow after blowing a tire Friday afternoon on I-80 near Angola.

“Trooper (Craig) Woodcox was preparing to oblige Brown in his request, however the fictitious homemade paper license plate ‘DJ39RK’ handwritten in crayon on a grocery bag raised obvious suspicion and led to further investigation,” said Sgt. Brian Walker, an Indiana State Police spokesman.

House Democrats leading the impeachment push are motivated by a “political vendetta” and their charge against President Trump is nothing more than “fabrication,” Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., said Saturday.

Appearing on “Fox & Friends: Weekend” with hosts Pete Hegseth, Ed Henry, and Rachel Campos-Duffy, Scalise said Democrats’ “biggest problem” is they never started their process with facts.

JUDICIARY COMMITTEE APPROVES ARTICLES OF IMPEACHMENT AGAINST TRUMP, GOP SLAMS ‘KANGAROO COURT’

“There’s never been a crime in this case. They’ve tried to find a crime, starting with the Mueller investigation it’s very clear. And, I think you’re seeing through it,” he said. “This whole impeachment inquiry…this is a political vendetta. This is all about them, first of all, not liking the fact that Donald Trump was duly elected president in 2016 and, frankly, they’re scared to death he’s going to win again because he’s been delivering on his promises.”

On Thursday, the president and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., announced bipartisan support for the United States-Mexica-Canada agreement (USMCA). Since then, the president also has taken another step toward a long-awaited China trade deal.

JESSICA TARLOV: TRUMP SHOULD BE IMPEACHED – REPUBLICANS WHO BLINDLY SUPPORT HIM ARE PROFILES IN COWARDICE

However, the House Judiciary Committee voted Friday to adopt two articles of impeachment against the president — capping a contentious three-day session that Republicans panned as a “kangaroo court” and teeing up a historic floor vote right before the holiday break.

“People wonder, what is the price of impeachment,” Scalise added. “It’s trampling over our constitution and the standard of impeachment. But, it’s all the things that have not gotten done like USMCA, like lower drug prices, and that’s the problem that they haven’t delivered for the American people. Luckily, President Trump has delivered and continues to.”

“We have an election next year. Let the voters decide this. But, there are no facts there. There’s just nothing to impeach this president on the articles of impeachment that just came out…” Scalise said, adding that it seems like Democrats’ “radical base” has “demanded this the day that Donald Trump got elected office and they can’t help themselves.”

“The president didn’t do anything wrong. [On] the phone call Zelensky himself said there was nothing wrong. But, because you don’t like the results of the election, and frankly you’re more afraid of your radically left base in Washington than you are the constituents who elected you back home…that’s the real reckoning.,” he continued.

“It’s not only desperation, [but it’s a] fabrication,” he said.

Coming up short on wrapping paper while in the middle of wrapping a Christmas gift can be devastating, but a now-viral TikTok video may reveal a hack you never knew you needed.

The video, which was also re-shared on Twitter, shows a woman’s trick for wrapping gifts in the event that one’s wrapping paper ends up “too short.”

GRANDMA OFFERED HOLIDAY SERVICES IN CRAIGSLIST CHRISTMAS POST AND THE STORY WENT VIRAL

While Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas” plays in the background, TikTok user @mrs_dee_penda demonstrates her gift wrapping hack using a small box.

Rather than folding the wrapping paper in simple squares, the usual way people tend to wrap boxes, the woman instead folds the paper using triangular creases.

PARENTS SWEAR BY VIRAL ‘FOUR GIFT’ CHRISTMAS RULE: ‘IT MADE SHOPPING A WHOLE LOT EASIER’

The simple hack completely stunned the Internet, with many people praising it as a complete game-changer.

“Wowwwwwwwwww so all that paper I wasted and I could have done this,” a Twitter user commented.

“We need more people like you in this world,” another said.

“WHAT?!? My life is a lie,” another person tweeted.

But apparently the so-called hack was nothing new for some gift wrappers.

“I thought that’s how everybody wraps tiny boxes,” one person commented.

Another warned, “Never saw a video of this just been doing it forever y’all need some IQ tests.”

Others simply found the method to be too “complicated” and vowed to continue wrapping their gifts as they did before.
