Ukrainian President Criticizes Trump, U.S. Officials For Spreading Misinformation

Westlake Legal Group 5de5514c1f0000201edf02a2 Ukrainian President Criticizes Trump, U.S. Officials For Spreading Misinformation

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke about his distrust of foreign leaders and criticized U.S. President Donald Trump for his waning support of Ukraine, in a sprawling interview with Time and European media published Monday.

The interview marks Zelensky’s most vehement and high-profile defense of Ukraine since the U.S. House of Representatives began an impeachment inquiry into Trump’s efforts to force Ukraine to open investigations into his political rivals.

“If you’re our strategic partner, then you can’t go blocking anything for us,” Zelensky said at one point. “I think that’s just about fairness. It’s not about a quid pro quo.”

Trump’s intention to exchange military aid earmarked for Ukraine for dirt on former Vice President Joe Biden is at the heart of the House’s impeachment inquiry, along with efforts by Trump and White House officials to spread a conspiracy theory about Ukraine ― not Russia ― interfering in the 2016 election.

The conspiracy theory about election meddling by Ukraine has been dispelled by the U.S. Intelligence Community and, more recently, during congressional testimony by the Trump administration’s former top Russia expert, Dr. Fiona Hill. But Trump’s allies in Congress and conservative media have continued to spread the discredited theory. On Sunday, Sen. Joe Kennedy (R-La.) befuddled “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd when he regurgitated anti-Ukrainian talking points widely acknowledged as pro-Russian misinformation.

In the Time interview, Zelensky told reporters how these conspiracy theories harm Ukraine:

The United States of America is a signal, for the world, for everyone. When America says, for instance, that Ukraine is a corrupt country, that is the hardest of signals. It might seem like an easy thing to say, that combination of words: Ukraine is a corrupt country. Just to say it and that’s it. But it doesn’t end there. Everyone hears that signal. Investments, banks, stakeholders, companies, American, European, companies that have international capital in Ukraine, it’s a signal to them that says, “Be careful, don’t invest.” Or, “Get out of there.” This is a hard signal.

Trump has repeatedly said his efforts to extort Ukraine were meant to root out government misconduct in the country, which ousted its former leader, President Petro Poroshenko, for corruption. Billing himself as a reformer, Zelensky succeeded Poroshenko on an anti-corruption platform, and he told Time he has nothing to prove to Trump.

“I don’t need to change his mind,” Zelensky said. “During my meeting with him, I said that I don’t want our country to have this image. For that, all he has to do is come and have a look at what’s happening, how we live, what kinds of people we are.”

Zelensky also discussed Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russia’s encroachment into Ukrainian territory and what he described as a decline in global support for Ukrainian independence.

Asked whether he trusts Putin to conduct peace talks with Ukraine in good faith, Zelensky said: “I don’t trust anyone at all.” He added: “I don’t know these people. I can’t understand what dough they’re made of. That’s why I think nobody can have any trust. Everybody just has their interests.”

Charlie Kirk questions impeachment timeline: Democrats had it ‘circled on their calendar’ months ago

Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk broke down his thoughts on the latest in the impeachment investigation as public hearings are set to resume later this week.

“It’s all artificial, it’s all astroturf, it’s all vapor,” Kirk said. “This is so shallow… there’s nothing here and enough people are realizing it.”

Joining a panel of guests, Kirk appeared on Fox Nation’s “Deep Dive” to discuss a recent letter sent by President Trump’s attorney Pat Cipollone who blamed House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Jerry Nadler, D- N.Y., for inviting Trump to participate in his committee’s first impeachment hearing on Wednesday, when Trump is scheduled to be overseas at the NATO Summit in London.

Accusing the Democrats of grasping at straws in an effort to defeat Trump, Kirk said they went into “crisis mode” when the much-awaited Russia investigation into 2016 election interference didn’t incriminate the president as they had hoped.

CHARLIE KIRK: DEMS CAN’T HANDLE IMPEACHMENT AND LEGISLATION

“A year ago, midterms are coming up…they win the midterms. I believe they had circled on their calendar ‘impeachment: July, August,'” Kirk said.

“And they thought it was going to be the Mueller formula,” he added, referring to former Special Counsel Robert Mueller who conducted the Russia investigation. “And then — slowly but surely — through very strategic leaks, they realized they got nothing … and they kind of go into a little bit of crisis mode,” Kirk said.

“Two days after Mueller, the whistleblower submits his complaint, President Trump has the phone call … and so, they had this planned,” he explained.

Doubling down in his criticism of the Democrats’ impeachment efforts, Kirk said their disdain for Trump extended to the American people, and that Trump acts as a “communication vessel for a country they actually despise.”

“They have total contempt for the people, they really do,” Kirk said.

“They look at elections as almost like a distraction, like a hindrance … like just as a roadblock or like ‘we have to deal with this. We’re smart, we went to Harvard. We’re smarter than you … let us be the philosopher kings. We can do this,'” said Kirk.

“They say ‘we’re gonna get the right bureaucrats and technocrats in a room and we’ll get paid a bunch of money,'” Kirk continued, “and you citizens that go to Wal-Mart and own guns and go to church…[they] have total contempt for you.”

Townhall columnist, political activist and former Democrat Kira Davis echoed Kirk’s remarks in the Fox Nation episode and blamed the “elitist” mindset of Democrats for driving her out of their party.

“They are angry at us, and that’s I think, to me, what I find most insulting,” Davis said.

“I left the left because…I’m a Midwestern girl and that’s really the heart of this country…so many good people there. And on the left, that’s just flyover country,” she said.

“And there’s this attitude that’s like ‘these people don’t know enough to tell what’s good for them,'” she added.

“They look at us like we don’t know what’s good for our kids,” Davis continued, “They know what’s good for us…it’s so insulting. I get that the vote doesn’t always go the way you want it, but that doesn’t mean we don’t know what we need.”

“I would just like to say,” Founder of ‘For Kids and Country’ Rebecca Friedrichs cut in, “on behalf of the American people, would you please just let my president do his job? It’s such a waste of time, really, and a waste of taxpayer resources.”

Asked about the effect the impeachment investigation will have on the 2020 election, Davis said she believes the electorate will “wake up” in support of Trump.

“No matter how crazy things get…the day after an election, even if your guy didn’t win, you get up in the morning, you’re still going to go to work. You’re still going to pay your bills. You’re still going to pick the kids up from school. Life is going to go on. Americans will always self-correct. That is what is so amazing about this country,” she said.

“When we think the American electorate is asleep, that’s when they pop up like, ‘oh, hell no, we weren’t. No, no, no, no. Not on our watch.’ But at the end of the day, Americans are not as dumb as people would have you believe. Most Americans are just living their lives without time for all of this,” she said.

“The United States, we actually put someone in who wasn’t supposed to be president,” Kirk responded.

“[Someone] who beat the media elites, beat Hillary Clinton, beat the DNC, beat the Bush elites, beat the Republican elites, was down in the polls and won in one of the most unconventional way imaginable. Good for our system. But what he represents, what the working class people see in him, they see him as their vessel, their daily representative…he’s going on his grind…. and the Democrats every day, through this impeachment sham are trying to push back against it.”

GOP Rep. To Plead Guilty In Campaign Finance Case He Called ‘Witch Hunt’

Westlake Legal Group 5de55d512500004f19d2ee21 GOP Rep. To Plead Guilty In Campaign Finance Case He Called ‘Witch Hunt’

Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) appears poised to plead guilty to federal campaign finance charges on Tuesday morning after more than a year of claiming the federal investigation into his spending habits was a “witch hunt.”

The congressman told San Diego station KUSI on Monday that he would plead guilty to avoid exposing his three children to a public trial, which would likely dwell on his extramarital relationships and involve his wife testifying against him.

The court docket in Hunter’s case also indicated on Monday that Hunter has a change of plea hearing set for Tuesday morning, as first reported by The San Diego Union-Tribune. He’ll appear before U.S. District Judge Thomas Whelan, according to the notification.

Hunter was indicted in August 2018. Months later, he won reelection after launching false, racist attacks against his opponent, who was of Palestinian and Latino descent.

Hunter’s wife previously pleaded guilty in the campaign finance scheme, admitting that the couple used campaign funds for a wide variety of family expenses, including flying their pet rabbit around. Hunter also used campaign money to fund extramarital affairs, according to federal prosecutors.

“Not a single dime of taxpayer money is involved in this. The plea that I accepted is misuse of my own campaign funds, of which I pled guilty to only one count,” Hunter told KUSI. “Whatever my time in custody is, I will take that hit. My only hope is that the judge does not sentence my wife to jail. I think my kids need a mom in the home.”

Hunter also said that he hopes his Southern California congressional seat will remain in Republican hands. “President Trump right now needs support more than ever,” he said.

The congressman was one of Donald Trump’s earliest supporters, and Trump lashed out at then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions for allowing Hunter and another Trump-supporting lawmaker, former Rep. Chris Collins (R-N.Y.), to be indicted. Collins pleaded guilty to insider trading in October.

Hunter’s trial had been set to take place early next year.

Boy narrowly escapes death after metal rod pierces through jaw in horror injury

WARNING: GRAPHIC PHOTOS BELOW

A 9-year-old boy has made a complete recovery from a horrific injury after he fell off a stool and onto a metal rod, which pierced through his lower jaw and narrowly missed major blood vessels. The boy, identified as Ayush by South West News Service, or SWNS, had been balancing on a stool to reach a towel on the laundry line when he lost his footing and fell off.

TODDLER LEFT WITH HOLES IN STOMACH AFTER SWALLOWING 37 MAGNETIC BALLS, REPORT SAYS

“It was quite difficult to do major investigations since the movement of the rod will traumatize the boy further,” Dr. Praveen, the boy’s surgeon at Lakshmi Hospital in India, told SWNS, a British news agency. “The rod was lodged very close to the trachea and major blood vessels going to the brain.”

Praveen said it was also difficult to administer anesthesia on his young patient, but that once they got started it took about an hour and a half to remove the rod safely.

His surgeon said it was difficult to evaluate his injury because any small movement could cause catastrophic damage.  (SWNS)

“It was such a sensitive and delicate surgery that even a minor glitch could have ended in a disaster for the boy,” Praveen told SWNS, adding that the boy has made a full recovery and was discharged on Oct. 17.

Ayush’s accident came just weeks after a man in China also narrowly escaped death when he fell 15 feet onto a steel bar that impaled him through his nostril before exiting through his skull. The man, identified as Li Xeudong, remained conscious throughout the ordeal and was said to be stable after surgeons removed the rod.

Robert Pattinson argues Batman is ‘not a superhero’ ahead of role as Bruce Wayne

Robert Pattinson is getting into the weeds of an age-old comic book debate as he prepares to take on the role of Batman.

The actor, who will be the next in a long line to take on the iconic comic book hero on the big screen following Ben Affleck’s portrayal in “Justice League,” spoke with Willie Geist for the “Sunday Sitdown” segment on the “Today” show. In a free-wheeling discussion about his immense fame following the “Twilight” franchise, the conversation turned to Batman. That’s when Pattinson waded into complicated character waters.

WHY CHRISTIAN BALE TURNED DOWN FOURTH ‘BATMAN’ FILM

“Batman is not a superhero!” he corrected Geist.

He continued: “It’s weird, I always balk at it. It doesn’t count. You need to have, like, magical powers or something.”

For those still scratching their heads about what the 33-year-old celebrity is talking about, many have debated over the years whether the Caped Crusader falls under the “super” part of the “superhero” category. Yes, he wears a costume and beats up bad guys, but as ardent comic fans will be sure to note, he does not possess any powers. Bruce Wayne is just a tough-as-nails rich guy who uses his big brain and bigger muscles to compete in the same league as definitive superheroes like Superman, Wonder Woman and The Green Lantern.

ZOE KRAVITZ JOINS ‘THE BATMAN’ AS CATWOMAN: REPORTS

Pattinson has remained relatively tight-lipped about the role since it was revealed that Warner Bros. was eyeing him to be the next Bruce Wayne in director Matt Reeves’ “The Batman.” However, given that he finds the very specific “superhero” terminology grating, one can assume he’s doing his homework for the part ahead of its expected 2021 release.

The actor didn’t say much else about the role other than to note that he desperately hopes it won’t propel him to the same level of fame that “Twilight” did before it took its final bow in 2012.

“I mean there’s a part of me that just thinks it’s impossible to kind of be… what happened with ‘Twilight,’” he explained. “Because it was just so sudden. And now I’m kind of… I’m hoping it won’t be people hanging out outside my place. I just think I’m kind of boring and old now. “

Conway: No ‘brighter contrast’ than Dems holding impeachment hearing with Trump at NATO summit

Westlake Legal Group hemmerconway Conway: No 'brighter contrast' than Dems holding impeachment hearing with Trump at NATO summit fox-news/shows/americas-newsroom fox-news/politics/trump-impeachment-inquiry fox-news/media/fox-news-flash fox news fnc/media fnc David Montanaro article 04a16341-bc96-5f95-bedb-593895c499fe

The contrast between House Democrats and President Trump will be on full display for the American people this week, White House Counselor Kellyanne Conway argued Monday on “America’s Newsroom.”

Conway pointed out that the House Judiciary Committee will kick off the second phase of impeachment hearings while Trump meets with world leaders at the NATO summit. She said voters will have a “split-screen” view of each side’s agenda.

“You cannot think of a bigger, brighter contrast. The president is on his way to NATO, where he has secured over $130 billion in additional NATO funds from NATO members and you have the Democrats, who are doing basically nothing for the American people and are trying to impeach a president three years running. … The Democrats can’t take a minute to pass infrastructure, reduce drug prices, keep this Trump economy humming along. He’s over at NATO and they’re trying to impeach him. America sees the split-screen government,” she told host Bill Hemmer.

HOUSE JUDICIARY DEM ADMITS EVEN HE HAS NO CLUE WHO NADLER’S WITNESSES ARE

Conway said the White House still believes the impeachment proceedings are an “illegitimate and unconstitutional process” and the first round of Intelligence Committee hearings failed to provide evidence of a crime.

Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., did give Trump the option of sending counsel to represent him at Wednesday’s hearing, but Trump told reporters he would not do so “because the whole thing is a hoax, everybody knows it.”

In a Sunday letter, White House counsel Pat Cipollone also accused Nadler of strategically timing Wednesday’s hearing for when Trump is away.

“You scheduled this hearing — no doubt purposely — during the time that you know the president will be out of the country attending the NATO Leaders Meeting in London,” Cipollone wrote.

“As for the hearing scheduled for December 4, we cannot fairly be expected to participate in a hearing while the witnesses are yet to be named and while it remains unclear whether the Judiciary Committee will afford the president a fair process through additional hearings,” Cipollone continued.

“More importantly, an invitation to an academic discussion with law professors does not begin to provide the president with any semblance of a fair process. Accordingly, under the current circumstances, we do not intend to participate in your Wednesday hearing.”

In an interview on “Fox & Friends” Monday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said it’s “very unfortunate” that House Democrats are moving ahead with impeachment hearings this week at the same time Trump will be holding key meetings at the NATO summit in London.

The hearing on Wednesday is expected to feature testimony from constitutional and legal scholars about the grounds for impeaching a president.

An armed Wisconsin high school student who reportedly did “not comply” with a school resource officer’s order to hand over the gun was shot by the officer inside the school building in a harrowing Monday morning incident.

Police raced to Waukesha South High School, located roughly 20 miles west of Milwaukee, soon after the incident was reported at about 10:15 a.m. Local authorities soon tweeted “the building is safe and secure” and confirmed there were no outstanding suspects.

Terry Schuster, a spokeswoman for the school district, confirmed the incident to The New York Times, telling the newspaper the student “did not comply to hand over the gun.”

The student’s condition was also not immediately clear and the individual wasn’t identified.

“This is an isolated incident. We are not seeking anybody else we have no other persons of interest,” the Waukesha Police Department tweeted. “We are in the investigative stage right now as the scene is stabilized.”

Waukesha South and the nearby elementary school were on lockdown for a period of time after the incident was reported, according to WITI. Carroll University, also located in Waukesha, tweeted “multiple law enforcement agencies” were investigating.

“That shocked me the most, I knew they were going to do it but I didn’t think it would take 48 staples to close up my back, I woke up looking like Frankenstein,” she said of the 2017 procedure. “I’m very self-conscious of my face. I don’t go out a lot because I get very anxious even if I’m meeting someone I know. I didn’t go anywhere for the best part of two years.”

Campbell said she was told that had she waited any longer to get the ulcer investigated, the aggressive cancer would’ve advanced from stage 1 to stage 4 in a matter of weeks, according to the DailyMail.

“I’ve got a long way to go with my journey but I’m getting there,” she said, according to the news outlet.

Campbell currently wears a splint in her mouth to support its structure while she awaits the next steps, which includes a bone graft from her hip to her jaw, and being fitted for teeth implants.

Doctors also hope to address the left side of her face, which drooped following the surgery, according to the DailyMail.

Caitlyn Jenner Says She Hasn’t Really Spoken To Khloe Kardashian In ‘5 Or 6 Years’

Caitlyn Jenner and Khloe Kardashian used to be two of the closest family members in the KarJenner bunch, but it seems those days have been over for some time.

Jenner, who is currently starring on the ITV reality show “I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here,” revealed that she hasn’t spoken to Kardashian in years, despite Kardashian saying earlier this year that she’d recently seen Jenner. The former Olympian, who came out as transgender in 2015, told castmates about the estrangement while explaining how she told her children about her transition.

“I started with Brandon, my son. And he said to me, ‘Dad, I’ve always been so proud to be your son, but I’ve never been more proud of you than right now,’” Jenner said as castmates reacted with “aww.” “That was a happy one.”

“The only one that was really — and I still, even to today, can’t quite figure it out — was Khloe,” Jenner said.

“Khloe, for some reason, was pissed off about something through the whole process. Honestly it’s been five or six years and I really haven’t talked to her since,” the 70-year-old continued.

“We were really close. I raised her since she was 5 years old,” she added. “I don’t know what her issues are, I really don’t know.”

Kardashian was noticeably absent from Jenner’s 70th birthday bash at the restaurant Nobu, though Kim Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner were all there, along with Brandon Jenner.

Khloe Kardashian previously spoke out about her disappointment with her former stepparent on a 2015 episode of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.”

“I am all for Caitlyn screaming from the rooftops about her transition, I think it’s beautiful and I think Caitlyn should take pride in everything that she’s doing and the strength that it takes to do what she’s doing on such a public platform,” the reality star said in a confessional.

“With that being said, Caitlyn does not need to tear anybody else down to build herself up,” she added, criticizing Jenner for the way she was speaking about Kris Jenner.

The struggles apparently stem not from Jenner transitioning, but from the way she handled publishing her tell-all memoir, “The Secrets of My Life.” The Kardashians alleged that Jenner gave the family advance copies of the book but omitted key details, prompting a lot of anger and sadness.

However, things seemed better between the two when the reality star spoke about Jenner on the “Divorce Sucks with Laura Wasser” podcast earlier this year.

“It was a struggle for all of us, at first the transition, not because she was transitioning. I think from how it was all handled,” the 35-year-old said, adding that she’d recently seen Jenner.

“I also think when your emotions die down, you’re able to really look at everything and be like, we’re all humans and we’re all trying to figure this out,” Kardashian continued.

“I could only imagine how difficult it had to be to tell your children something like that, but at the time, information was withheld from us and we had to find out through other media channels and I think we all, our feelings were hurt,” she added.
