Israeli PM Netanyahu must now decide whether to ask legislators for immunity in corruption case

Westlake Legal Group AP19328605653321 Israeli PM Netanyahu must now decide whether to ask legislators for immunity in corruption case Greg Norman fox-news/person/benjamin-netanyahu fox news fnc/world fnc c2738568-3d44-5aa4-8e2b-9386ca70c57b article

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has 30 days to ask his country’s legislators for immunity on corruption charges after a copy of his indictment was handed over to the Knesset on Monday, starting the clock on what’s likely to be a lengthy legal battle with immense global implications.

A three-judge panel is gearing up to hear the unprecedented case in Jerusalem district court, while Israel’s attorney general is expected to call more than 300 witnesses — including billionaires James Packer and Sheldon Adelson.

If Netanyahu asks Israel’s legislative body for immunity, however, the trial could be put on hold for months, according to the Jerusalem Post.

Israel’s attorney general Avichai Mandelblit announced last week that Netanyahu is not required to leave office following his indictment, even though several political leaders in the country called on the premier to resign.

In a statement released Monday, Mandelblit said Netanyahu can remain interim prime minister despite the fraud, breach of trust and bribery allegations, giving a small boost to the embattled leader.

Israeli law requires other public officials, including Cabinet ministers, to resign if charged with a crime but doesn’t explicitly state a prime minister has to leave office in those situations.

The allegations against Netanyahu include claims he accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars in champagne and cigars from billionaire friends, offered to trade favors with a newspaper publisher and used his influence to help a wealthy telecom magnate in exchange for favorable coverage on a popular news site.

Netanyahu, Israel’s longest-serving prime minister, has dismissed the charges against him as an “attempted coup” and is framing his legal battle as a witch hunt involving political rivals, the media, police and prosecutors, all pressuring a “weak” attorney general.

Fox News’ Yonat Friling, Talia Kaplan and the Associated Press contributed to this report.

If he had cooperated in releasing documents from the White House as well as allowing others to testify, then his and white house lawyers could have been involved.

During the last hearing he was invited, on air, by one of the members of the committee to participate in the hearing. Trump even said himself that very week he may decide to testify.

Of course, despite all this the GOP and Trump turned around, even in the same day, to claim there was no due process. Whined about their own witnesses somehow being “Democrat star witnesses” because they can’t handle the truth. These people aren’t just corrupt and stupid, they are pathetic and obvious. Anyone who stands by them or repeats their talking points without critical thought is just as bad, if not worse.

Deshaun Watson led the Houston Texans with four touchdowns in the team’s win over the New England Patriots on Sunday night and it was a big moment for the quarterback.

Watson was 0-2 against Tom Brady going into the game. The third-year quarterback said that getting the win, especially over someone he looked up to when he was younger, was a huge deal for him.

“You know, that’s my role model, a guy that’s been doing it forever,” Watson said, according to the team’s website. “[He’s been playing for] over 20 years, I’m only alive for 20 years, so it’s pretty awesome to finally get one and to just see the love and respect we have for each other and it was big. So, it was awesome.”

Watson also revealed the advice Brady gave him.

“He just, you know, congratulated me and said, ‘Keep going, stay healthy.’ You know, we’ve been in touch. We’re going to talk this offseason. And definitely, you know, a resource that you know he’s going to give an opportunity to check in and learn from him. I’m definitely going to take it.”

Watson was 18-for-25 with 234 passing yards and three passing touchdowns. He also caught a touchdown pass from DeAndre Hopkins in the fourth quarter.

Miami Dolphins’ trick-play touchdown ignites upset win over Philadelphia Eagles

With nothing left to lose amid a lost season, the Miami Dolphins showed some moxie Sunday by breaking out a trick play in their surprising win over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Down six points in the second quarter, the Dolphins pulled a highlight-reel stunt on 4th-and-goal near the Eagles’ end zone.

The Dolphins initially lined up for a field goal but moved into a different formation with punter Matt Haack lining up under center Daniel Kilgore while the rest of the team was spread out on both sidelines.

Haack received the snap and ran to his left and as the Eagles defense was rushing him he flipped the ball to kicker Jason Sanders who was wide open in the end zone for the score. The Dolphins took a 14-13 lead into halftime.

J.J. WATT MIGHT RETURN TO TEXANS FOR PLAYOFFS: REPORTS

It was the play that ignited Miami’s 37-31 victory.

According to the Sun-Sentinel, the play was called “Mountaineer Shot.” It was named after Kilgore who was a center for the Appalachian State Mountaineers in college. Sanders was the first kicker to catching a passing touchdown since Jim Turner did it in October 1977.

“It’s exactly what we planned for,” Haack said. “That was pretty cool.”

Miami moved to 3-9 on the season, while Philadelphia dropped to 5-7.

The loss further hinders Philadelphia’s playoff chances. The team had a chance to get into a tie for first place with the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC East, but now have lost three straight and still sit one game behind Dallas in the division.

Montana Gov. Steve Bullock drops out of 2020 race, no Senate run expected

Montana Gov. Steve Bullock on Monday announced he was suspending his campaign for president and made clear he has no plans to run for U.S. Senate.

The 53-year-old Democrat, who has served as governor since 2013, said it has become clear he won’t have a shot at the party’s nomination to beat President Trump in the 2020 presidential race.

JOE SESTAK ENDS CAMPAIGN FOR DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL NOMINATION

“While there were many obstacles we could not have anticipated when entering this race, it has become clear that in this moment, I won’t be able to break through to the top tier of this still-crowded field of candidates,” Bullock said in a statement.

The campaign of the two-term governor, who is also former state attorney general, got a late start, as Bullock only announced his candidacy in May, trailing along dozens of other Democratic candidates vying for the nomination. He tried to make the case that he was the best option to beat Trump because he was the only Democratic candidate to win in a state that Trump won in 2016.

Bullock struggled to raise money and register in the polls, managing to meet qualification thresholds for only one Democratic National Committee debate in July. He said he was running for president to win back places Democrats have lost and end the influence of “dark money” in politics — concerns, he said, that have not changed.

MARY ANNE MARSH: DEMOCRATS’ TOP TWO CONTENDERS AS IOWA AND NH VOTES DRAW NEAR

The governor said he is leaving the crowded 2020 race “filled with gratitude and optimism, inspired and energized by the good people I’ve had the privilege of meeting over the course of the campaign.”

On Sunday night, Joe Sestak, a retired Navy admiral and former Pennsylvania congressman, dropped his bid for the presidential nomination, as well.

Bullock is the third Western governor or former governor to drop out of the 2020 race after struggling to build a national profile and donor base against well-known alternatives like former Vice President Joe Biden and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. Former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper dropped out in August to run for the Senate. His departure was followed quickly by that of Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, who is seeking reelection.

Bullock’s spokesperson, Galia Slayen, said Monday that Bullock “plans to work hard to elect Democrats in the state and across the country in 2020 [but] it will be in his capacity as a governor and a senior voice in the Democratic Party — not as a candidate for U.S. Senate.”

Trump Says U.S. Will Reinstate Metal Tariffs on Brazil and Argentina

Westlake Legal Group defaultPromoCrop Trump Says U.S. Will Reinstate Metal Tariffs on Brazil and Argentina United States International Relations Trump, Donald J International Trade and World Market Customs (Tariff) Brazil Argentina

President Trump said on Monday that he would reinstate tariffs on steel and aluminum from Brazil and Argentina, accusing the two countries of artificially weakening their currencies and hurting American farmers.

Mr. Trump, in a message on Twitter, said the currency manipulation by Brazil and Argentina was hurting American farmers. “There, effective immediately, I will restore the Tariffs on all Steel & Aluminum that is shipped into the U.S. from those countries.”

The Trump administration initially exempted Brazil and Argentina from the president’s sweeping metal tariffs in 2018, after the United States said it had reached trade deals with those countries.

It is unclear exactly what prompted Mr. Trump’s message on Twitter. Argentina’s currency has weakened but the country has been in the midst of an economic crisis.

But both Argentina and Brazil have benefited from the president’s trade war with China, which has hurt American exports of soybeans and other products.

Brazil and Argentina have picked up much of that business, replacing the United States as a large purveyor of farm goods to China.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.

Steve Bullock Is Dropping Out Of The Presidential Race

Westlake Legal Group 5de4911c1f0000dc1adf013f Steve Bullock Is Dropping Out Of The Presidential Race

Montana Gov. Steve Bullock is dropping out of the 2020 Democratic presidential primary.

Bullock was the only governor remaining in the sprawling 2020 primary field, and he was the only candidate in the race to win statewide in a state President Donald Trump won in 2016.

Bullock’s campaign also said he would not run for U.S. Senate against GOP Sen. Steve Daines. Senate Democrats have hoped to recruit Bullock into that race.

His campaign, which aimed to highlight his ability to win over Republican voters while emphasizing progressive priorities like limiting the influence of money in politics, failed to catch fire. He entered the race in May, after his state’s legislative session, and only managed to qualify for a single debate while struggling to raise money and break through in a crowded field.

“Today, I am suspending my campaign to become the Democratic Party’s nominee for President,” Bullock said in a statement. “While there were many obstacles we could not have anticipated when entering this race, it has become clear that in this moment, I won’t be able to break through to the top tier of this still-crowded field of candidates.”

“I entered this race as a voice to win back the places we lost, bridge divides and rid our system of the corrupting influence of Dark Money,” he continued. “While the concerns that propelled me to enter in the first place have not changed, I leave this race filled with gratitude and optimism, inspired and energized by the good people I’ve had the privilege of meeting over the course of the campaign.”

Bullock’s decision to quit the race reflects, in part, the continuing strength of Vice President Joe Biden. Bullock and a host of other candidates entered the race believing Biden would falter, and establishment Democratic officials and donors would go looking for alternatives. But Biden remains the leading candidate in almost every national poll.

It also reflects the diminished position of governors in the presidential contest. All three governors who entered the race – Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper and Bullock – have now dropped out of the race. Hickenlooper opted to exit the race and run for Senate against GOP Sen. Cory Gardner. He’s now the leading Democratic candidate in the race.

Democratic operatives believe Bullock, who won re-election in 2016 as Trump romped in the state and remains popular there, is the only candidate who could seriously challenge Daines. Republicans view him as a serious threat, and they have aired ads in the state attacking him. But Bullock’s campaign reiterated his decision to stay out of the contest.

“Governor Bullock will continue to faithfully and effectively serve the people of Montana as their Governor,” said Galia Slayen, Bullock’s communications director. “While he plans to work hard to elect Democrats in the state and across the country in 2020, it will be in his capacity as a Governor and a senior voice in the Democratic Party — not as a candidate for U.S. Senate.”

Bullock is the second candidate to drop out of the race in as many days, following former Pennsylvania Rep. Joe Sestak
