Ilhan Omar Goes On A Power Trip

These are heady days indeed for Ilhan Omar. Scarcely a news cycle goes by without some mention of the Congresswoman from Minnesota.

Monday’s tweet, followed up by an interview with the Huffington Post, indicates that all of this media attention has left the anti-Semitic lawmaker feeling a bit too full of herself.

“This is a president who has come to power vilifying and demonizing immigrants and refugees. He proudly said we should halt Muslims from entering our country. It’s not a surprise that he finds his biggest nemesis in me,” Omar tweeted.

In March, speaking at a Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) banquet, Omar described the 9/11 attacks as “some people did something.” Her remarks triggered widespread condemnation and culminated in President Trump tweeting a powerful video of the attacks alongside Omar’s comment with the caption, “WE WILL NEVER FORGET!”

Omar told the Huffington Post that, “He clearly has a disdain for black women who see themselves as equal to him.”

She added, “Clearly, I am a nightmare ― because he can’t stop really thinking about ways that he can continue to use my identity to marginalize our communities.”

Omar’s recent defense of Venezuelan dictator Nicholas Maduro and her attempts to place blame on the US for the country’s problems has led to criticism from both Vice President Mike Pence and State Secretary Mike Pompeo. Omar told “Democracy Now!” last week:

A lot of the policies that we have put in place has kind of helped lead the devastation in Venezuela and we have sort of set the stage for where we are arriving today.

This particular bullying and the use of sanctions to eventually intervene and make regime change really does not help the people of countries like Venezuela and it certainly does not help and is not in the interest of the United States.

Omar sees the great deal of media attention she receives as a reflection of how “important” and “influential” she has become. The reality is that any lawmaker who continually spews similar inflammatory, anti-Semitic, anti-American, defiant vitriol would receive the same attention.

Most Americans find it appalling that someone with such unpatriotic and disrespectful feelings toward our country sits in the U.S. House of Representatives.

President Trump is not afraid of her. Obviously, she is not his biggest nemesis. She is more like a child who deliberately acts out in order to attract negative attention.

When an individual makes shocking statements, people notice. Omar mistakes press attention over her poor behavior with how powerful she is.

Note to Ilhan Omar: You are not important. You are inappropriate, ungrateful and graceless.

Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX-2). Screen grab via Fox News.

On Saturday, my Red State colleague Bonchie wrote about Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D-MN-5) response to VP Mike Pence’s and Sen. Marco Rubio’s (R-FL) criticisms of her attempts at blaming America for the crisis in Venezuela.

Omar, of course, boiled their remarks down to racism and sexism.

As I’ve written before, this is a common tactic she and her fellow freshman Democratic Congresswomen embarrassingly use when they’ve been called out and have nothing of substance to add to the debate.

Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX-2) has also responded to Omar trying to pin Venezuela’s issues on American policy. During a segment on Fox News Friday night, Crenshaw said that “her opinion is not one that is based on facts or reality” and explained why:

I’ve been going to Venezuela for a long time. My family actually used to live in Caracas, and I’ve traveled there a number of times.

I’ve watched these policies ruin the country. It’s not U.S. policy. Notice how [Omar] didn’t give an example because she doesn’t have any.

But what’s actually happened is through price controls and nationalization of private industry, you’ve ruined an economy. We have a hundred years of examples to show for this. When you put in these kinds of socialist policies, it destroys a country. It happens over and over again. People starve. That is what’s happening right now. These failed ideas that keep bubbling up.

As to Omar blaming America and her use of the woman of color card, Crenshaw again pushed back:

It’s a real shame to see that we have members of Congress actually defending them, and always going back to ‘it’s the U.S.’s fault. It’s always ‘America’s fault.’ And ‘if you’re disagreeing with me, you’re disagreeing with me because of my identity.’ That’s basically what she said in that tweet and that’s really cheap, that’s a really cheap shot to take.

Watch the interview with Crenshaw below:

This is not Crenshaw’s first dance with the Woman of Color card. He responded last month to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY-14) playing the card in defense of Rep. Omar’s controversial 9/11 remarks by saying:

So what they do is they’ll use identity to try and silence anyone else from saying anything. You’re not allowed to say that because of who I am. Sorry, no, that’s not how things work in a democracy, especially amongst members of Congress.

In an interview with CBS News this past weekend, Crenshaw again stood by his criticism of Omar’s “some people did something” 9/11 comments.

Socialism Fail: Ocasio-Cortez Is Dodging Questions About Maduro and Venezuela

New York’s democratic socialist Representative, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, has made it very clear that she loves the idea of socialism, and wants it implemented in the United States as soon as yesterday. However, one strong argument against her wishes is the desolation of Venezuela as overseen by the socialist leader Nicholas Maduro.

Suffice to say, with all the turmoil currently happening in Venezuela, Ocasio-Cortez isn’t too keen on talking about the unofficial Venezuelan leader.

On Thursday, Ocasio-Cortez was asked if interim president Juan Guaido or Maduro was Venezuela’s rightful leader by National Review’s John McCormack. Instead of answering the question, Ocasio-Cortez kicked the can to her party’s leadership, saying that she would rather defer to them.

The socialist who speaks constantly suddenly has nothing to say.

The inability to denounce Maduro is clue enough to what Ocasio-Cortez thinks, but this isn’t the first time she’s attempting to tip-toe around the issue. We can also see her dodging the question when she reacted when President Donald Trump first reacted to the news that Guaido had been officially made Venezuelan’s leader.

Back in January, AOC made it seem as if she was taking a cautious approach to figuring out what’s going on in Venezuela. It would have seemed like a wise move if she wasn’t known for speaking out on subjects she doesn’t know about with great speed.

For Ocasio-Cortez, she told the Daily Caller News Foundation that she found the crisis in Venzuela “concerning,” but quickly shifted the attention to Trump’s recognition of the legitimately elected leader of Guaido as “non-democratic.”

“Our office is monitoring it closely. I think that, you know, the humanitarian crisis is extremely concerning but, you know, when we use non-Democratic means to determine leadership, that’s also concerning, as well,” Ocasio-Cortez told the DCNF. “So, we’re figuring out our response and making sure that we center the people of Venezuela first and foremost.”

Maduro and his socialist regime have done so much damage to the country’s economy that such everyday items as toilet paper, baby formula, and other products we would consider mundane almost unfindable. In fact, so destitute are many of Venezuela’s communities that they’re now transporting their sick and injured to hospitals in dump trucks.

Condemning Maduro should not be a difficult task, but for a socialist, Maduro’s failures and the failures of socialism could easily be theirs. Avoiding speaking about it is the best move they have.

Ocasio-Cortez isn’t the only socialist refusing to speak about Venezuela. Some news outlets have been trying to get Sen. Bernie Sanders to speak on it for years, and he too does his best to dodge it.
