Planned Parenthood is Trying to Silence It’s Former President, and That Raises Questions

Planned Parenthood is an organization that has shrowded itself and for good reason. As recent events have shown us, not only are many clinics not up to par in terms of cleanliness, even to the point where veterinarian hospitals are less filthy, sting operations have shown Planned Parenthood official taking part in the sale of body parts from aborted babies.

This shadiness gets even shadier when you consider Leana Wen, Planned Parenthood’s ousted former President who took over after the departure of Cecile Richards.

According to the New York Times, a letter by Wen showed that Planned Parenthood was “deeply hypocritical” when it came to transparency. Wen essentially stated that that is working to buy her silence by threatening to take her healthcare away should she speak up about the goings-on behind the scenes at the abortion giant:

In her recent letter, she left open the possibility of legal action. “I have no desire to file claims against Planned Parenthood for defamation, retaliation, or discrimination,” she wrote ominously.

She said that Planned Parenthood was demanding her silence “in exchange for my contractually-guaranteed severance and continued health insurance coverage,” calling the efforts “unjust” and “unethical.”

Dr. Wen went so far as to invoke the recent Trump administration rules to accuse Planned Parenthood’s board of hypocrisy.

“It is deeply hypocritical,” she wrote, that Planned Parenthood, “would attempt to enforce a gag order on its immediate past President/CEO while fighting the Trump administration’s gag rule on Title X providers.”

Wen was fired because she was, apparently, not political enough for the organization. According to Wen, she went into the role with the mind that Planned Parenthood was a medical organization first, not a political player. Odd, since abortion and politics is exactly what Planned Parenthood exists for.

What we do know is that as pro-life sentiments gained traction across the nation, Wen’s strategy was allegedly to make Planned Parenthood out to be a healthcare-focused organization, however, the board wanted more emphasis on abortion. Soon, she found herself kicked out of her position after a secret meeting by board members.

We can speculate as to why Wen’s positions didn’t fit with Planned Parenthood’s powers that be all day, including the idea that Wen’s stances softened on abortion after her miscarriage, which was happened around the same time as her firing. Either way, it probably doesn’t matter. What matters is the fact that Wen and Planned Parenthood apparently didn’t see eye to eye so greatly that they decided she was a liability.

So why is Planned Parenthood so adamant about Wen keeping her silence? What does she know that Planned Parenthood doesn’t want us to know, especially as the organization prides itself on being an open book as suggested by Wen? If it is transparent, why the threats to punish Wen financially?

I don’t want to confuse anyone. There are no good guys in this situation. Wen is an abortionist who likely sees a financial opportunity to gain more money with threats of speaking up, and Planned Parenthood naturally doesn’t want to pay a ridiculous amount for her silence.

But it’s odd that this silence is apparently worth a lot of money and threats. What else is going on that we may not know about?

Ousted president to Planned Parenthood: Stop trying to “enforce a gag order” on me

Westlake Legal Group wen Ousted president to Planned Parenthood: Stop trying to “enforce a gag order” on me The Blog retaliation planned parenthood Nondisclosure Agreement LEANA wen gag order discrimination Defamation

Oh, the irony. Two months after the sudden departure of Dr. Leana Wen as president of Planned Parenthood, the nation’s biggest abortion mill has fought a two-front war on so-called “gag orders.” They have taken the Trump administration to court to fight one on themselves as Title X providers — and fought to impose one on Dr. Wen to keep her quiet about the tactics of Planned Parenthood.

The New York Times got its hands on a letter from Wen accusing Planned Parenthood of being “deeply hypocritical” when it comes to transparency, and issuing a sotto voce threat to sue over discrimination or retaliation:

One has to go pretty far into the NYT article to catch this, but their lead is tasty enough. Wen accused PP of attempting to “buy her silence” in the letter, which might only be an issue if it was for sale in the first place, which Wen strenuously denies. “No amount of money can ever buy my integrity and my commitment to the patients I serve,” Wen wrote in the letter.

Planned Parenthood denies all of the above, but the fact that negotiations are still underway makes it clear that they want Wen to keep her mouth shut. It also looks like Wen wants something significant in exchange for quietly returning to “the patients that I serve.” Former execs don’t toss around allegations of “defamation, retaliation, or discrimination” in letters unless they want increased compensation to settle any potential claims along those lines.

Let’s face it: if Wen wants to speak out, she can do so at any time. It might cost her, especially if she signed a non-disclosure agreement, which is pretty common with executives in any organization. No one can “gag” her if Wen chooses to talk; the question is whether she’s willing to forgo the financial rewards of silence — and how much she can increase those by signaling that she wants to speak up.

And speaking of hypocrisy, Wen’s sudden shock, shock to find that Planned Parenthood stridently politicizes abortion ranks up there pretty high with PP’s sudden love of gag orders, too. Perhaps the board told Wen that they wanted to change direction, but that seems doubtful. With Donald Trump in office, their obvious choice was to exploit La Résistance® and double down.

At any rate, to put this fight into cinematic perspective, this looks like a brawl between Clubber Lang and Ivan Drago. Someone will get knocked out, but … it doesn’t really matter who.

Note: The NYT includes a very tragic note to all of this: Dr. Wen’s miscarriage this summer, which played a small role in the conflict. Regardless of her politics, we pray for healing and better days for her and her family.

Tulsi Gabbard: Yes, abortion should be regulated in the third trimester

Westlake Legal Group tg Tulsi Gabbard: Yes, abortion should be regulated in the third trimester tulsi gabbard trimester third The Blog Pro-Life pro-choice planned parenthood late term Abortion

Via Alexandra DeSanctis, who was the last Democratic candidate for president to support any restrictions on abortion?

I don’t mean this year, I mean any year.

Someone in the 2004 field, maybe? I have no memory of any Dem in recent history with a national future daring to challenge “kill ’em whenever” orthodoxy. Gabbard is breaking new ground, which is also old ground:

Gabbard told Rubin she views abortion in a “libertarian” way, saying she doesn’t think government should be dictating women’s choices. “I think that there should be some restrictions though,” she added. Rubin asked if she had a “cutoff point,” to which she replied: “I think the third trimester. Unless a woman’s life or severe health consequences is at risk, then there shouldn’t be an abortion in the third trimester.”

When Gabbard first became involved in politics in the Hawaii state legislature, she called herself pro-life, but later said having been deployed to Iraq changed her view of the issue. Since becoming a member of Congress, Gabbard has maintained a 100-percent rating from Planned Parenthood. She supports federal funding of abortion, but she did not co-sponsor a Democratic bill in the House that would repeal the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits the direct use of taxpayer funds to cover abortion procedures. She also did not sponsor the Democratic “Women’s Health Protection Act,” a piece of federal legislation that would override state restrictions on abortion.

By no means is she pro-life, she’s just a bit — a meaningful bit — less pro-choice than everyone else. Which is something.

And so we turn again to one of the most confounding mysteries in politics this year: Why is Tulsi Gabbard running for president? What’s her political endgame in taking a position like this, which is welcome to people like me who won’t vote in a Democratic primary and not so welcome to people who will?

The Atlantic mulled Gabbard’s strategy a few days ago and had no more luck than anyone else did in figuring out what she’s up to.

Many high-level Democrats I spoke with for this story, who insisted on anonymity to share their true feelings about her, suspect that Gabbard is up to something other than actually trying to win the party’s nomination—even if they can’t quite identify what her goal is. These are people who have been wary since Gabbard became a Fox News favorite for criticizing Obama’s foreign policy. They believed that their distrust was vindicated when Steve Bannon brought her in for a meeting with then-president-elect Donald Trump just two weeks after the 2016 election, which was one of Trump’s first meetings with a Democrat. To this group, Gabbard looks like Jill Stein, who also talked about progressive politics and peace, but whose 2016 Green Party run was, to them, a self-centered campaign that blew a crucial hole in Hillary Clinton’s chances, eating up money and getting Russian support along the way…

Theories I’ve heard from top Democrats include that Gabbard is trying to get a TV show—“I already know which network: Fox,” one senior Democrat not affiliated with any campaign said, speaking anonymously to remain publicly neutral—and that she’s gearing up for a Trump-benefiting third-party run. “Green Party. Willing to take bets on this,” Center for American Progress President Neera Tanden tweeted last week after Gabbard appeared on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show to trash the Democratic National Committee because she hadn’t qualified for the September debate. Gabbard later tweeted the clip with the banner “No transparency = no trust.” (Gabbard has said publicly, and confirmed to me, that she will run only as a Democrat, but when I repeated that to Tanden, she remained skeptical.)

Is that her game, winning over the hearts of Fox News fans with guest shots on Tucker, broadsides at Kamala Harris, and support for abortion regulations in the third trimester? I don’t know how well a “Tulsi!” show on Fox would fare if Trump ended up bombing Iran after all and the adamantly anti-war Gabbard had to face the Fox audience in “rally ’round the flag” mode. And if ingratiating herself to Fox viewers while damaging her chances at the Democratic nomination is her new aim, she’d have been better off renouncing support for abortion altogether. “I oppose it in the third trimester” is a nice start but still leaves Gabbard in the position of supporting the vast majority of abortions in the U.S.

As far as I’m aware, there’s no meaningful constituency for her position in a Democratic primary. Black Democrats are often called socially conservative by pundits, which may be true relative to the fringy weirdness of leftists on an array of “values” issues. But black Protestants support abortion in all or most cases to the tune of 64 percent, a higher percentage than white mainline Protestants. Overall, 82 percent of Democrats favor abortion rights in all or most instances. Gabbard’s in roughly the same position here as a Republican candidate who supports abortion rights in the first trimester: Most pro-lifers wouldn’t dare vote for that person even though his or her position on the issue is “moderate” since they wouldn’t be able to trust the candidate not to “evolve” further once in office. Likewise for pro-choice Dems who want a president who’ll show indomitable resolve in holding the line on abortion rights against Republicans, I assume. To those people, Gabbard’s a nonstarter.

Increasingly I think she’s just speaking her mind and letting the chips fall where they may, knowing that she has no chance at the nomination and believing/hoping that American politics will catch up with her in a few years. She’d be one of the more compelling politicians in the country if not for her Assad baggage. Maybe she’ll renounce that over the next few years, reposition herself as an unorthodox Democrat, and test her luck in 2024 with the benefit of higher name recognition and a national political scene that seems to be in constant flux. Gabbard’s just 38 years old. Going her own way on issues — within reason — and refusing to apologize for it might build her a base over time.

Planned Parenthood Is Now Aiming to Teach Your Child to be Transgender

If it can’t succeed in killing the child, then Planned Parenthood will try its level best to ruin their lives.

According to Fox News, the abortion giant is now advising parents on how to teach preschoolers about their bodies via their website, by telling them that “boy” and “girl” are just words:

On a page of its website titled “How do I talk with my preschooler about their body?” the abortion provider says if a child inquires why boys and girls have different bodies, a parent should introduce the concept of transgender identity.

“While the most simple answer is that girls have vulvas and boys have penises/testicles, that answer isn’t true for every boy and girl,” the organization says. “Boy, girl, man and woman are words that describe gender identity, and some people with the gender identities ‘boy’ or ‘man’ have vulvas, and some with the gender identity ‘girl’ or ‘woman’ have penises/testicles. Your genitals don’t make you a boy or a girl.”

The biological reality is that we use these words to describe sexes that are very different from each other in many ways, from muscle and bone density to brain function, to the fact that one type of body can develop and give birth to children inside them, and one cannot.

But the obvious scientific facts are beside the point. The real question is why Planned Parenthood wants us to sit down and introduce transgender concepts to small children. What’s the point? Children that young may ask about girls and boys, but they don’t agonize over it as social justice identitarians do. They’re more concerned about who is going to play with them and when they can eat ice cream next.

The introduction to these concepts isn’t education at this point. It’s brainwashing in order to grease the wheels for an agenda. As tinfoil hat as that sounds, it’s not only true, the social justice left is proud of this idea. They hold drag queen story hour in order to inject this into children’s minds.

(READ: Photos Show Children Laying On Top Of A Drag Queen At A Portland Library’s Drag Queen Story Hour)

What’s horrible is that Planned Parenthood is trying to get you to get your child to believe things that end up being very damaging to the psyche. The suicide rate of transgender teens, in particular, is unbelievably high.

The public should be pushing back against this with all its might, but the media has made transgenderism out to be holy, sparking something of a fad that has only caused depression and suicide.

Planned Parenthood is a dealer in death. Period.

Former Sex Educator: Planned Parenthood is Grooming Girls for Abortion Via the Public Education System

Monica Cline — who worked as a sexual health education instructor for Planned Parenthood for ten years — claims young girls are being groomed for abortion via public education.

So reports The Daily Caller.

Monica began her career in 1996 as an HIV prevention educator the Center for Health Training. In 1997, she became Planned Parenthood’s Title X Training Manager for New Mexico and Texas.

The former instructor says she was ordered to teach children about every kind of sexual activity — because, according to the Director of Prevention Education, the kids had probably already done it all:

“It was very explicit. Oral, vaginal, and anal sex, and the use of sex toys.”

To bolster the argument, her superior pointed to multiple PP studies revealing girls as young as 10 coming to clinics for sex-related injuries and the removal of foreign objects, in addition to abortions.

In light of the evidence, Monica asked the director how they could convince children not to have sex. This was the purported response:

“No dear, we aren’t teaching them not to have sex. We are teaching them how to do it safer.”

“Risk reduction is simply telling them how to make the high risk safer by using lubrication and condoms,” Monica clarified. “The next step is to make them understand they need to be tested for STD’s every couple months.”

From The Daily Caller:

She explained that children’s introduction to sex is “illicit sex,” referring to a video children were shown at a Waco, Texas, conference where Cline was present.

Cline taught twelve and thirteen-year-old students a module on healthy relationships while her co-worker taught the same students a module on STD training, which included a video depicting a couple who has just had sex.

The video, called Nicole’s Choice, and sold by sexual educators for $125, shows a girl wake up after a one night stand and realize she must handle the sexually transmitted disease she received from her hookup.

Monica insisted kids were encouraged to engage in sex and then guided into abortion as the solution to pregnancy:

“We were supposed to identify what they are going through. Say, ‘You’re just a teenager, the last thing you want is a baby.’ Identify with her fears. ‘Your parents are probably going to be so mad at you. We can take care of this for you, it’s not a problem.’”

Her characterization is in line with a video I featured in July, which allegedly shows Planned Parenthood counseling teachers on how to help their students hide abortion from parents. See the startling clip here.

As per Monica, PP told her directing the kids to abortion was a must:

“They always went to the extreme. If we don’t do this for this girl, she will live in poverty. Or her parents will commit acts of violence.”

By 2009, she could no longer take the organization’s approach to children.

More from TDC:

Cline attended a human trafficking conference in 2009 while she still worked with Planned Parenthood, thinking she could teach Planned Parenthood employees how to spot red flags and aid victims of human trafficking. At this point, she was Title X Training Manager for Texas and New Mexico.

But when she returned to a Corpus Christi, Texas, clinic to explain her findings to employees, she was met with dismissal.

She recalled them telling her, “Honey, if she’s not having sex with this man this month, she’ll be having sex with another man next month.”

Monica left her post, with a very negative view of the abortion giant:

“Teens are being given false ideas that condoms will cover all the bases. They do tell them to get tested and treated – which means coming back to the clinic – and if they are pregnant they are encouraged to get an abortion. … [Planed Parenthood’s] view of our children is very skewed. They believe that this is what our children want. They don’t see our children as victims, they see them as willing participants.”

What has happened to “education”? That is to say, education was once about…education. Our schools appear to have become indoctrination centers covering topics so far outside of reading, writing, and ‘rithmetc that they couldn’t see one another with a telescope. For more evidence, just see the stunning evidence here.

Personally, I miss the days when kids’ time in school was spent learning academic subjects. Beyond those, it seems to me, we’d be much better off if developing minds were taught how to think, not what to think.

The Washington Post Smears Pro-Lifers As White Supremacists Because No One Is Safe

Westlake Legal Group planned-parenthood-tx2-620x432 The Washington Post Smears Pro-Lifers As White Supremacists Because No One Is Safe the washington post Steve King sanger Pro-Life pro-abortion Politics political planned parenthood media bias J.D. Vance Gross Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story Disgusting democrats Brostoff

The Washington Post is just awful.

If you’d like more evidence of that, here’s a piece they put out today tying pro-lifers to white supremacy and suggesting that J.D. Vance subscribes to the white nationalist replacement theory. The author of the article is someone names Marissa Brostoff, who epitomizes the know nothing nature of so many current journalists.

Her proof of such a stupid, ahistorical claim? That Steve King is pro-life. Really, that’s pretty much what here argument boils down to. I hear Steve King also drives a car, thereby cars are clearly white nationalist garbage.

Last fall, speaking to a far-right Austrian magazine, the Iowa Republican congressman Steve King succinctly laid out his theory of Western decline. The problem, he suggested, was a demographic born at the nexus of reproduction and immigration. “If we continue to abort our babies and import a replacement for them in the form of young violent men, we are supplanting our culture, our civilization,” King said.

King’s views are certainly problematic, especially if you take the worst interpretation of them (to be fair, he doesn’t actually say “white” anywhere in his comments). But King is hardly dispositive that the greater pro-life movement is somehow tied to white supremacy. History tells quite the opposite story.

In fact, Brostoff’s article is an exercise in contradiction. Abortion is a form of eugenics, one she supports. 36% of all babies aborted are black. Planned Parenthood exists today because a founder who sought to use abortion to eradicate minorities founded it. What does any of this have to do with the largely religiously based pro-life movement?

Take this word salad for example.

This juxtaposition has been particularly cruel over the past year, as revelations about the imprisonment of migrant children in concentration camps have coincided with a wave of draconian antiabortion legislation. (Just last week, a federal appeals court approved Trump administration rules cutting off federal funds from health-care providers that offer abortions or even discuss the procedure with patients, effectively slashing the budget of organizations like Planned Parenthood.) But understanding this confluence as ironic can actually mislead us. In fact, as King and his white nationalist allies have become increasingly comfortable admitting, state crackdowns on reproductive and immigrant rights are inextricably linked.

In other words, she’s essentially asserting that Republicans are evil and want to kill everyone, but also they are pro-life and that’s super evil as well. If you are struggling to square that circle logically, don’t be too hard on yourself. It makes absolutely no sense.

Here’s the reality. Being pro-life means eliminating abortion for all races. It means more black and Hispanic babies being born, not less. There is absolutely nothing even resembling white supremacy is such a viewpoint. It’s actually the complete opposite. Pro-abortion advocates, on the other hand, are an ally of the white nationalist movement because they largely target minority women and their unborn children.

To assert that being against abortion is actually helping white supremacists is ludicrous on its face. In short, this writer is attempting to link two diametrically opposed ideas simply to cram the circle of her politics into the square of what abortion actually does and who it affects the most.

As you read Brostoff’s piece, it’s lack of any actual citation for her claims is notable. What she’s attempting to do is claim that because white supremacists are concerned with falling birthrates (of white people), that this means all people encouraging more births (of all races) are white supremacists. This is nonsense. It’s like saying that because the Christchurch shooter was concerned about the environment that environmentalism is therefore white supremacy. An idea can be adopted by bad actors. It does not make the idea defined by those bad actors.

Falling birthrates are actually an issue for economies and we’ve seen countries of all different racial makeups encouraging parenthood. That movement has exactly nothing to do with white nationalism and everything to do with nations acting in their own self-interests. If someone wants to argue for abortion and be against governments encouraging more births, fine. But trying to connect that to white supremacy and then claim pro-lifers are white supremacists is disgusting garbage.

To end her piece, Brostoff then smeared J.D. Vance by claiming he was touting white nationalist replacement theory. This despite him clearly spelling out what he was talking about.

J.D. Vance’s wife is a minority and his children are half Asian. The modern woke movement has no room for critical thinking or facts though, so Brostoff ran with her gross insinuation anyway. The Washington Post has since scrubbed that paragraph and offered a correction, no doubt to avoid being sued. What she had originally written was likely actionable defamation.

I’ll end by reiterating that the modern white supremacist movement, however tiny it actually is, is largely pro-abortion. Richard Spencer, for example, supports abortion. Brostoff, whether she wants to accept it or not, is finding far more common cause with racists than pro-lifers are. Her entire piece smacks of looking in the mirror and not liking what she sees. Instead of reflecting on the immorality of her own views though, she sought to project evil on others via illogical nonsense lacking any and all evidence.

While many conservatives on social media acted shocked that the Post would even publish this, I’m not surprised at all. This is who these people are. This is their agenda. We either push back against it vehemently or we collapse under its weight.

One of the goals that a lot of us on the pro-life side have been agitating for for years is getting the federal government out of the business of funding Planned Parenthood. One of their major sources of income is via grants to provide “family planning” services under Title X of the 1970 Public Health Service Act. This served as a two-fer for Planned Parenthood. First, it let the federal government pay them to establish clinics and provide loss-leader services while giving them the ability to market their primary line of business: abortion. Even though Title X money couldn’t be used for abortions, Title X money was used to subsidize facilities and staff that, directly or indirectly, participated in abortions.

In December 2018, President Trump’s Department of Health and Human Services began the process of rewriting Title X grant regulations to require that Title X grantees not share facilities, personnel, or corporate governance with abortion providers. It was squarely aimed at Planned Parenthood but I’m sure a lot of other “women’s health centers” were caught in this as well.

In doing this, HHS took advantage of a Supreme Court decision that had started during the Reagan Administration and wasn’t decided until 1991.

[Let me take a short side trip here an note that for all the people ragging on President Trump about his unworthiness to be president, explain how Trump was able to to in less than three years what George W. Bush–who is often held up as an evangelical exemplar–didn’t even attempt to do in eight. And I say this as someone who was a Bush supporter and consider him to be one of the most admirable men to have held the office in the past 50 years.]

The rule was issued in February of this year and was promptly challenged in court. Because not only is abortion a constitutional right, getting federal money is also a right. They were boatraced by the Sixth Circuit but there was always hope that the Ninth Circuit would uphold some order by a Seattle or San Francisco judge declaring a nationwide injunction. A couple of Obama judges (yes, Chief Justice Roberts there are Obama judges) did just that. On April 23, Obama-appointed Oregon district court udge Michael McShane issued a nationwide injunction and on April 25 Obama-appointed Washington district court judge Stanley Bastian did the same. But this time the unexpected happened. The Ninth Circuit removed the injunction ruling that, in light of the 1991 Rust v. Sullivan case, that the administration was very likely to prevail.

The dam has finally broken. Planned Parenthood has announced that they are out of Title X.

Planned Parenthood said all of its clinics will formally leave Title X, the marquee federal program dedicated to providing birth control to low-income women. A change to the program last year requires beneficiaries to comply with a so-called “gag order” on abortion services — something that Planned Parenthood said it isn’t willing to do. The clinic’s exit will result in a loss of millions of federal dollars.

In a conference call with reporters on Monday, Planned Parenthood’s new leader, Alexis McGill Johnson, announced all the health care clinic’s affiliates would be sending letters to the Department of Health and Human Services Monday, formally announcing their resignation from Title X. She warned that without Planned Parenthood, low-income women in rural areas would struggle to find affordable birth control options.

As Jeanne Mancini, President of the March for Life observed: “Planned Parenthood, our nation’s largest abortion provider, today made a choice not to separate its abortion operation from Title X services, and in doing declined Title X funding, which makes up approximately four percent of their annual budget. Abortion is neither healthcare nor family planning and taxpayer dollars should not support abortion. Leana Wen’s recent firing and Planned Parenthood’s decision today doubles down on their ultimate goal, which is political abortion advocacy, not healthcare.”

Personally, I’m a huge skeptic about the validity of the federal government trying to reduce birthrates in any demographic segment. It smacks of paternalism and of the kind of eugenics program that eventually becomes involuntary sterilization and euthanasia. There is literally no service provided by Title X that is uniquely available there. I have no idea why we think mucking about in the sex lives of the poor is a worthy endeavor. That aside, it has always been abhorrent that we were allowing Title X to be used as a recruiting ground for abortion.

Despite my dislike of Title X, Planned Parenthood leaving will be a null set. There are more than ample community-based health nonprofits who will step up now that the abortion behemoth is out of the market. Perhaps women in need of prenatal care will actually start getting that rather than steered towards abortion. Maybe cutting off the feeder system will actually reduce the number of abortions. Maybe some of the monsters who worked to inveigle women into getting abortions will find themselves impoverished and homeless (though I doubt it).

Regardless, it is a step toward decency and even though a future Democrat president may change this rule, we’ve at least temporarily cut off this funding stream and we’ve created a new network of service providers who can compete with Planned Parenthood should the rule be reversed. For kids and families and the nation, this is win.

This is akin to finding out that Dan Hedaya was Keyser Soze. The years-long effort to defund Planned Parenthood may have finally succeeded, the Daily Beast reported over the weekend, because the nation’s leading abortion mill may refuse to take the money. A new rule prohibiting abortion counseling and referrals from Title X providers will remain in place, and Planned Parenthood management may refuse to participate as long as it does — which they have to decide today:

Despite years of fighting calls to “defund Planned Parenthood,” the reproductive healthcare organization may now voluntarily remove itself from a massive government funding program, after a federal appeals court allowed a controversial new abortion rule to go forward.

For months, Planned Parenthood has been battling a new Trump administration rule that bars taxpayer-funded family planning clinics from talking with their patients about abortion, or referring them to abortion providers. Planned Parenthood deemed the measure a “gag rule” and said it would pull out of Title X—the program that administers the funds—rather than comply with the new regulations. …

In a statement, Planned Parenthood leadership said they would consider their options and announce next steps on Monday. “We refuse to cower to this president,” acting PPFA President and CEO Alexis McGill Johnson said. “The gag rule is unethical, dangerous, and we will not subject our patients to it.”

At issue are two decisions by the Ninth Circuit over the rule change, both of which favor the Trump administration. Planned Parenthood sued to overturn the rule, but the appellate court initially decided that the rule could be enforced while Planned Parenthood’s legal challenge proceeded, refusing to impose a temporary restraining order. Planned Parenthood then demanded an en banc hearing of that decision, but the court denied the request — unanimously, it seems:

“The full court has been advised of the motions for full court en banc reconsideration and no judge has requested a vote on whether to rehear the matter as a full en banc court,” Chief Judge Sidney Thomas wrote in the brief order Friday. “The motions for full court en banc reconsideration are denied.”

Friday’s ruling leaves Planned Parenthood to decide whether it will follow through with its promised departure from the program, which could come on Monday. That’s the deadline for providers participating in Title X to provide compliance assurance to HHS regarding the rule.

Why didn’t Planned Parenthood appeal directly to the Supreme Court? Come on, man. If the Ninth Circuit can’t find a reason to block a Trump administration policy, what chance did an appeal to the Supreme Court have? That’s what makes this statement on the denial for an en banc hearing so interesting. Planned Parenthood couldn’t get even one judge on the Ninth Circuit to vote to rehear their case. That’s not exactly a vote of confidence in their argument on the merits.

On Thursday, before the denial of the en banc request, Planned Parenthood sounded a defiant note:

They also issued a letter earlier in the month, claiming that if the rule remained in place, they would “have no option but to withdraw from the Title X program.” HHS issued a letter in response essentially daring them to do so:

“If the seven Planned Parenthood direct grantees insist on providing abortion referrals even within a federally funded program, and feel so strongly that they would withdraw from the program and the public they serve, that is their own choice, not a consequence of the Rule,” attorneys for HHS wrote.

Planned Parenthood predicted their withdrawal would create the demise of Title X, but that’s nonsense. The government spends hundreds of millions of dollars on contraception through the program, the kind of demand that creates supply organically. If Planned Parenthood exits the program, other clinics will open to fill the gap — clinics that will comply with the rule not to provide abortion counseling or referrals but stick to contraception, which is Title X’s mission in the first place. There may be some disruption in the short term, but that would be within Planned Parenthood’s power to fix by complying with the rule.

What Planned Parenthood wants to do is to hold women hostage in order to dictate terms to the Trump administration and to set the rules themselves. That’s not how regulatory policy works, or at least not how it’s supposed to work. Corporations don’t get to hold social programs hostage to further their profit goals. Imagine the outcry if McDonalds attempted to block food stamps unless the government allowed EBT sales at its restaurants.

Planned Parenthood will have to decide today whether it will turn down those hundreds of millions of dollars every year, or whether it will comply with the rules. Having climbed this far out on the limb, it will be tough to retreat — but equally tough to saw the limb off, too. They may just choose to defund themselves and save conservatives the trouble, which might be the most popular move that organization will have done with those on the Right in their long existence. And let’s not forget that Donald Trump’s decision to impose this rule is what’s forcing Planned Parenthood to make this decision — and letting Congress off the hook for it, too.

Planned Parenthood whines after debate: What about us?

The biggest loser of night one of the second round of Democrat debates was not one of the candidates in the crowded field. It was Planned Parenthood. Not one question was asked of the candidates about abortion. Nor were they given the opportunity to drone on about reproductive rights and health care.

Planned Parenthood noticed the absence of the topic that provides their livelihood. Angry tweets emerged from their Twitter account. In the span of three tweets, the abortion providers went from optimism that their cause would be advanced Tuesday night to scolding CNN and the DNC for ignoring them.

There was a lot of discussion about health care and health insurance and free everything for everyone on the topic but no talk about free abortions. During the first debates, three candidates were asked about abortion – Julián Castro, Bernie Sanders, and Elizabeth Warren. At that time, several states were in the news for passing new laws that put more restrictions on abortion. Two of those three candidates were on the stage for the first night’s debate. Elizabeth Warren is on record in support of making Roe v. Wade a federal law. Bernie Sanders didn’t deliver a strong message about protecting Roe v. Wade during the first debate. He simply gave some vague answer about how Medicare for All will protect abortion rights. The absence of the topic from the debate leaves Bernie’s non-answer hanging out there. As usual, he is in favor of an issue at the expense of American taxpayers.

Will Joe Biden be pressed about his flip flop flip on the Hyde Amendment during Wednesday night’s debate? There still seems to be some confusion on what his current position is on the subject.

Joe Biden has the most to explain on this subject. In early June, he reversed his longterm stance of supporting the Hyde Amendment, which bans federal funding for abortion. If he gets questioned about his change of opinion this time, it could offer other candidates an opportunity to pounce. Kirsten Gillibrand, who appears on night two with Biden, described the Hyde Amendment in the first debate as a compromise made behind closed doors.

Will CNN and the DNC see the disapproval of Planned Parenthood and rush to include the “right” to abortion in their question rotation? I’m not really sure what Planned Parenthood expected, though. All of the candidates have expressed their own pro-abortion views. Even a relatively moderate candidate like Rep.Tim Ryan is quick to talk about how he has “evolved” as a politician. Though elected as a pro-life Democrat in 2013, when such Democrats were allowed to exist, by 2015 he gave an interview saying he came around to the pro-abortion position after speaking with women and hearing their stories. His views on supporting the NRA changed, too, as he evolved in office. After the Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting, he moved to the gun-grabbing side of the Democrat aisle.

“I think Democrats, and especially progressive Democrats, appreciate someone who takes in new information, who has new experiences, and then evaluates their position based on that new information and new experiences,” the lawmaker continued.

Speaking of Tim Ryan, he caused a little stir Tuesday night as he was the only candidate on the stage to not place his hand over his heart during the national anthem. He may as well have taken a knee.

Ryan said after the debate that he was just distracted by the choir. He puts his hand over his heart for the Pledge of Allegiance.

Ryan, asked after the debate about people criticizing him for not placing his hand over his heart, responded: “I love this country as much as everybody else.”

“The national anthem plays at football games, I put my hand on my heart for the Pledge of Allegiance,” he told ABC News. “I don’t know, the choir was singing and it was great.”

We’ll see if an abortion question pops up tonight.

Planned Parenthood’s Leana Wen was let go Tuesday after nearly a year as the abortion provider’s CEO.

During her tenure, she generated news stories such as these:

New Planned Parenthood President Says It’s ‘About Saving People’s Lives’

Planned Parenthood President Guests On Comedy Central, Brags Of Her New ‘Badge Of Honor’

Planned Parenthood President Offended ‘As A Mother’ By Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act

Leading the charge for abortion, she tweeted things like this:

Now that she’s been pushed out, whats’ the status of the organization’s interim leader?

She’s a woman of faith.

In 2014, Alexis McGill took her message to the church.

She described herself to The Christian Post as a Christian who believes abortion is complicated issue rightfully managed between the woman, the doctor, and God:

“We all recognize that abortion and terminating a pregnancy is a very complicated decision, but that issue needs to be left to a woman, her doctor and her God, not a politician. I felt that it was a very insulting way of trying to suggest that we’re not capable of grappling with the implications of the decisions that we make.”

Also, keep those black abortions coming:

“I feel like [the pro-life campaign is] an assault on black women’s ability to make a decision. We’d have to talk about the conditions under which that is happening. Black women have less access to healthcare for a whole variety of reasons, and so trying to create those causal links are not always the easiest ways to understand really what’s underlying the challenges that black women are facing.”

Christian Alexis — who’s served, according to LifeNews, on the PP board of directors for “many years” — is sure to generate some compelling headlines of her own.

Concerning Leana — who appeared to perpetually take the position that abortion is all about healthcare rather than politics — there may be a particularly political reason she was ousted.

As reported by The Daily Wire:

Insiders note…that another factor that contributed to Wen’s departure was her lack of “trans-inclusive” language, believing that it would isolate moderates from supporting Planned Parenthood.

Is this a sign of the ubiquitous abortion giant slimmings its waistline, or will the new direction mean impregnated sales?

RedState’s Kira Davis noted on the 16th:

A recent Gallup poll revealed that a mere 25% of Americans support abortions under any circumstances. That puts into question the wisdom of advocating for things like partial birth abortion.

Kira included an interesting quote from Students for Life President Kristin Hawkins:

“The musical chairs at the top of the nation’s number one abortion vendor changes nothing. Women don’t need what Planned Parenthood is selling. Pregnancy is not a disease cured by abortion, and with federally qualified health centers standing by to offer true, full-service healthcare, women have lots of options that don’t include abortion.”

As for Leana’s lack of transgender inclusion, Alexis is primed for such a move. As we’ve already seen in the early Democratic debates, there’s support there. Julian Castro is wholly on board:

“And, you know, what that means is that just because a woman — or, let’s also not forget, someone in the trans community, a trans female — is poor doesn’t mean they shouldn’t have the right to exercise that right to choose.”

And as I covered twice this week, so is bellowing anti-Trump doctor Eugene Gu:

It’s a new frontier. So get ready, Christians and men: Your abortions await.
