Video: Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham Hurt During Scuffle With North Korean Guards

The new Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham hasn’t been on the job long, but she’s already making herself a a household name by physically confronting North Korean guards trying to prevent the American press from witnessing a historic moment.

According to Fox News, Grisham was slightly hurt with bumps and bruises while she was captured on video creating a pathway for the American press as Kim Jong Un’s personal guard attempted to stop them as Un and President Donald Trump met and shook hands across the demilitarized zone on Sunday. Reporters were calling it an “all out brawl.”

Thanks to reporters on the scene we have video of the altercation.

In the video you can see Grisham using her full body weight to push aside a guard. As she does she shouts “go go” to reporters who take the opportunity to slip past thanks to the gap Grisham created. As the reporters break away you can hear Grisham telling guards “no.”

Even Jim Acosta reported the news without spin.

Fox News reported that it wasn’t clear whether or not Grisham needed medical attention afterward, but I’m willing to bet that if she’s willing to engage in physical conflict that a few bumps and bruises isn’t going to concern her.

There’s currently no word as to why Kim’s personal guard was trying to stop American press from witnessing this event, but it wasn’t entirely successful thanks to one determined woman. North Korea is known for having everything coming in and out of the country on lock-down due to its dictatorial regime. Trump has been trying to see to it that war is avoided with the communist hermit kingdom after coming very close during the early part of his presidency.

After some back and forth between the two leaders, Trump and Kim have an vastly improved relationship, leading to this moment where a sitting U.S. president has stepped foot into North Korea. This has never happened before, and it’s a moment worthy of the press’s attention.

WH Press Secretary injured in brawl with No Korean guards

She’s new on the job as White House Press Secretary but Stephanie Grisham has already created headlines of her own. Reporters on the scene of President Trump’s meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un claimed that Grisham was bruised up during a confrontation with North Korean guards.

Grisham suffered bruises when a scuffle broke out Sunday between North Korean security guards and members of the media trying to get close to President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un as they shook hands at the Demilitarized Zone, the Associated Press reported.

The new press secretary was reportedly pushing back against the guards, trying to help members of the White House press corps position themselves to cover the historic moment between Trump and Kim.

Several reporters tweeted about the clash between the guards and the media.

A source told CNN’s Jim Acosta that “an all-out brawl” broke out as Grisham tried to manage the White House press pool’s access. I know. Don’t get hung up on the reporter.

A source on the scene said Grisham got in “an all out brawl” with the North Koreans, adding that she was bruised a bit in the scuffle.

Grisham was doing her job, by my reading of the situation. Apparently, the North Korean guards got overly-aggressive with her as she tried to coordinate the press pool’s movement to document a historic moment – President Trump set foot on North Korean soil

Trump, Kim Jung-un, and South Korean President Moon Jae-in met for about 50 minutes inside the Freedom House at the Korean demilitarized zone (DMZ). Treasury Secretary Mnuchin, Presidential advisers Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner sat in for part of the meeting. After the meeting, Trump and Moon escorted Kim Jung-un back over the border as he returned to North Korean soil. Then the two men addressed the press.

“Speed is not the object, we want to see if we can do a really comprehensive, good deal,” Trump said. “This was a great day. This was a very legendary, historic day.”

He quoted Kim as saying that “just the meeting is historic.”

Grisham continued on in her role with the press pool after being roughed-up. Bloomberg White House Correspondent Jennifer Jacobs said the incident “came to body blows.” She described the chaos of the moment on Twitter.

North Korean guards are notoriously agressive and brutal. If these meetings continue, as President Trump hopes they will, maybe Stephanie Grisham should put in for combat pay.

New WH Press Secretary named, Melania’s choice announced via tweet

Westlake Legal Group melania New WH Press Secretary named, Melania’s choice announced via tweet WH Communications Director The Blog stephanie grisham Press Secretary Melania Trump

The choice has been made on who will take over as White House Press Secretary and that choice was made by Melania Trump. There is no clearer signal being sent that the First Lady is playing a larger role in the administration than the announcement of this decision. Stephanie Grisham, Director of Communications for First Lady Melania Trump is the pick.

Melania Trump made the announcement herself, in a tweet.

The outgoing White House Press Secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, responded.

It is a smart move that the next press secretary will, like Sarah Sanders, be a working mom. Like Sanders, Grisham is known to not take any crap from the press. It’s like how moms handle their children when they act out and do dumb things to get attention. You know, like the White House press corps has a habit of doing for the television cameras. Grisham, like Sanders, doesn’t appear to particularly care if the members of the press corps like her or not. She just does her job, which has been to speak up for Melania Trump.

I’ll be curious to see if Stephanie Grisham is both White House Press Secretary and Communication Director because those are usually two separate positions. In the Trump White House, the position of Communication Director has been held by five people. Sean Spicer held both positions simultaneously but that didn’t work out so well. Mike Dubke, Anthony Scaramucci, Hope Hicks, and Bill Shine all held the White House communications shop’s top job.

Grisham has worked for the Trumps since 2015. She first came onboard during the Trump campaign as a press aide and was part of the presidential transistion team after the election. She was Deputy Press Secretary for Sean Spicer before moving to Melania’s office. She is said to be well-respected by those in both the West Wing and East Wing of the White House.

Will she start the formal White House press briefings again? It’s been 106 days since the last one so that will be of interest to political junkies. Maybe she will just continue on with the informal routine that Sanders established to counter the confrontational daily press briefings. Either way, regular Americans don’t care. They just want President Trump’s staff to serve him competently and Grisham will do that.

Under Sanders, the traditional televised press briefings in the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room have largely gone away. Earlier this year, the president said he told Sanders “not to bother” giving those regular briefings anymore, saying the press covers her “rudely and inaccurately.” It’s now become more common for White House spokespeople to take questions from reporters in informal gaggles outside the West Wing.

It would be good if Grisham could work on the abundance of leaks coming out of the West Wing. The First Lady’s office doesn’t seem to have that problem. Meanwhile, Melania Trump’s quiet, behind-the-scenes influence grows. That’s probably a good thing.

Trump: Sarah Huckabee Sanders is stepping down as press secretary at the end of the month

Westlake Legal Group hs Trump: Sarah Huckabee Sanders is stepping down as press secretary at the end of the month white house Trump The Blog Sarah Huckabee Sanders Press Secretary

Her legacy as press secretary will be having presided over the near-destruction of the daily press briefing.

Which is a pretty sweet legacy, to be honest.

Here’s the official announcement at the White House:

It’s the right time to leave. She had accomplished everything Republicans could have hoped for and more:

Running for governor isn’t just something Trump stuck in his tweets to be nice. According to Kaitlin Collins, Huckabee Sanders has been talking up the idea herself. Which makes sense. Between her father having served as governor for years and her own service as the face of Trump’s White House, she must have close to universal name recognition in Arkansas. How many local pols can say the same?

All she needs is for Trump to win reelection in 2020. The governor’s seat will be occupied until 2022 by Asa Hutchinson, who’s term-limited. If Trump wins a second term, she’s formidable and maybe the favorite. If Trump gets beat, eh. Maybe she’ll look like damaged goods as the GOP’s Trump personality cult transforms into something else.

As for who replaces her in the White House, maybe … no one? What does Trump need a press secretary for if there are no press briefings? Kellyanne Conway and other Trump advisors who are practiced at cable news hits can pick up the slack on TV. He’s been operating for months without a White House communications director, since Bill Shine left; operating without a press secretary feels like a natural next step. If he’s intent on filling the role (maybe both roles with the same person), though, he could always promote Mercedes Schlapp from her current role as director of strategic communications. Or he could try to bring back Hope Hicks, although (a) Hicks is no doubt being paid much better in her role as chief spokesman for the Fox Corporation than she would be at the White House and (b) being on camera was never Hicks’s comfort zone as a Trump aide despite her good looks.

Maybe he’ll swing Ivanka into this role? Only a Trump can really speak for Trump.

Let’s be real. There’s only one person who both deserves this job and whom the entire world wants to see take it. As LBJ once said of J. Edgar Hoover, better to have an enemy inside the tent pissing out than outside the tent pissing in. Plus, he’s always wanted his own show. It’s time.

April Ryan’s “incitement”: Sarah Sanders among heads to start “lopping off”

Westlake Legal Group april-ryan April Ryan’s “incitement”: Sarah Sanders among heads to start “lopping off” White House press corps The Blog Sarah Huckabee Sanders Press Secretary Mueller report incitement CNN april ryan

That’s not what she meant, April Ryan’s defenders will say, but it’s not conservatives who cry “incitement” over every criticism and metaphor. To say that reporter Ryan and White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders have a rocky relationship is to understate their working relationship. I’ve written about the dust-ups between the two women, as have others on this site. Remember #PieGate? Yes, April Ryan actually turned a pie into a story to own Sanders.

With the release of the Mueller report, April Ryan, a White House correspondent for American Urban Radio Networks and CNN contributor, quickly began a call for the firing of Sanders. The Mueller report shows that Sanders acknowledged to Mueller’s investigators that she misled reporters by stating that rank and file FBI agents had lost confidence in James Comey in the lead up to his firing.

The special counsel’s report, released Thursday, cited Sanders’s multiple false statements to reporters as part of its review of whether President Trump obstructed justice in firing Comey. Sanders told investigators that her misstatements were a “slip of the tongue,” and that the claims were not founded on anything.

In a draft termination letter, Trump cited low morale within the bureau in his reasoning for firing Comey on May 9, 2017. The next day, Sanders, then the deputy press secretary, spoke to Trump about his decision before a press briefing with reporters, Mueller wrote.

“The president, over the last several months, lost confidence in Director Comey,” Sanders said in an opening statement at the May 10 briefing. “The DOJ [Department of Justice] lost confidence in Director Comey. Bipartisan members of Congress made it clear that they had lost confidence in Director Comey. And most importantly, the rank and file of the FBI had lost confidence in their director.

“Accordingly, the president accepted the recommendation of his deputy attorney general to remove James Comey from his position,” she added.

As reported by Newsbusters, Ryan appeared on CNN and her rhetoric truly went to the dark side. April Ryan asserted that Sanders lied and cannot be trusted. “Start lopping the heads off.”

“Not only does she not have credibility, she lied. She out and out lied,” she declared as emotion welled up in her voice. “And the people, the American people can’t trust her. They can’t trust what’s said from the President’s mouthpiece-spokesperson from the people’s house. Therefore, she should be let go. She should be fired, end of story.”

Things got very dark as Ryan rhetorically suggested that since there was “a lack of credibility there, you have to start and start lopping the heads off.” She added: “It’s fire me Thursday or fire me Good Friday. She needs to go.”

By the standards of the Left on rhetoric and violence, isn’t that “incitement”? What exactly do most people visualize when someone starts talking about “lopping” heads off? It’s not exactly Christianity’s Holy Week, that’s for sure. That bit of hyperbole was a metaphor uttered to drive home a point, of course, but the Left has freaked out over any criticism of its leading lights as incitement over much less than “lopping off heads” metaphors. If we’re going to start imposing standards on “incitement,” we’d better be prepared to impose them equally.

Sanders appeared on Sean Hannity’s Fox show Thursday night and responded about the story. She jabbed Comey as she spoke.

Sanders told Fox News host Sean Hannity on Thursday night that she was wrong to use the word “countless,” but did say it was “not untrue” that “a number of current and former FBI agents agreed with the president” about Comey while referring to him as a “disgraced leaker.”

I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that April Ryan’s opinion on personnel matters probably carry little weight with President Trump. She can call for Sarah’s termination but it will likely only result in a tweet by him if even that. Ryan may think Sanders will be made the fall guy in this matter but as things stand, it’s highly unlikely.
