As Red State‘s Brandon Morse wrote earlier this week, 180 CEOs – including Twitter’s Jack Dorsey and Bloomberg chair Peter Grauer – signed on to a “Don’t Ban Equality” campaign that is designed to put economic pressure on conservative states to stop passing pro-life legislation.

A quick recap, via Fox Business:

Business leaders at nearly 200 companies signed a letter Monday calling abortion bans “bad for business” after several states, including Georgia and Alabama, signed legislation tightening restrictions on the procedure.

The letter, which appeared as a full-page ad in the Monday edition of The New York Times under the titled “Don’t Ban Equality,” Opens a New Window. called on companies to “stand up for reproductive health care.” CEOs from media, fashion, beauty, food and tech companies were among those listed as signatories.

“Restricting access to comprehensive reproductive care, including abortion, threatens the health, independence and economic stability of our employees and customers,” the letter stated. “Simply put, it goes against our values, and is bad for business.”

During an interview with Rule of Law Defense Fund yesterday, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) called out the blatant hypocrisy of some of the CEOs who engage in these type of boycott campaigns. Here’s what he said (transcribed):

“It’s funny to me. Boycotts are one of the favorite tools of the left, including the corporate left. So yesterday, 170 CEOs signed a letter condemning some abortion laws that have been passed in a number of states. We’ve seen in the past, efforts against North Carolina led by the corporate community.

It’s funny. These companies have no problem — these same voices — have no problem leading boycott efforts as a result of laws passed by the democratically-elected legislatures of American U.S. states. On the other hand, they are the first ones to come up here and argue ‘oh, we can’t cut off economic relations with fill-in-the-blank authoritarian country, China, Saudi Arabia, whoever it might be.’”

Continuing to mimic these CEOs, Rubio continued: ‘I don’t care that they have a camp with a million Uighur Muslims interned and forced labor and quote-unquote re-education. We want to do business there. I don’t care that women are not allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia. We want to do business there.’

“So these same companies who have no problem being the voice of moral authority when it comes to imposing boycotts as a result of laws passed by the democratically-elected legislatures of American states, they have no problem being the voice of open and free economic engagement with authoritarian countries that have real, documented, persistent human rights violations.”

Watch video of his remarks below:

Rubio is 100% correct here, and his mentioning of North Carolina hit home to me, as a lifelong resident of the state and someone who was right in the thick pushing back against the activist/corporate left’s relentless econmic boycott campaign over the HB2 “bathroom bill” in 2016.

I pointed out the virtue-signaling hypocrisy of the NBA, who threatened an All-Star Game boycott of the state at the time, as well as the double standards of the activist left:

The NBA is content with punishing North Carolina for a bill protecting women and children while it rakes in billions from expanding operations in countries with brutal human rights records against men, women, and children. The NBA’s sudden concern is not genuine; it’s a product of pressure by the left-wing outrage machine.

Then, the radical activist left in North Carolina, who normally are absolute purists on issues related to “fair and living wages” and “safe spaces for women,” applaud the NBA for threatening the economic livelihoods of their fellow residents.

Go figure.

Some things never change.

Rep, Katie Porter (D-CA-45) appears on Bill Maher’s “Real Time” show. 6/8/19. Screen grab via HBO.

I’m not so sure what was worse about Rep. Katie Porter’s (D-CA-45) appearance on Bill Maher’s show Saturday night:

Her casually ghoulish explanation to Maher about how his mother had the right to abort him, or the audience’s and panel’s uproarious laughter that followed.

The Hill recaps what went down on the Saturday edition of HBO‘s “Real Time”:

Rep. Katie Porter (D-Calif.) drew laughs from the audience while defending a woman’s right to choose Saturday night, after Real Time host Bill Maher joked about being “squishy” on his “pro-choice” views.

“They told my mother after my sister, very difficult birth, she shouldn’t have another one. So knowing I could’ve been on the cutting room floor…why is that so terrible?” Maher said.

Porter quipped back at the comedian: “Your mom made her choice, and we’re all here with the consequences of that choice.”

“I just want to say God bless Ms. Maher, God bless her for having you. I’m sure it wasn’t easy,” Porter said, adding the point is “she made her choice.”

Watch video of the disturbing exchange below:

Instead of being shocked at Porter’s remarks – where she told the host of the show who invited her on that it would have been ok if his mother had terminated his unborn life, an assorted variety of left wingers, commentators, and even Democratic politicians praised Porter’s “owning” and “roasting” of Maher on the abortion issue.

Porter herself was obviously extremely proud of the clip, because not only did she tweet it out and add additional comments to it, but her profile picture is now an image of her from the show:

If Maher really would have been on his toes, he would have asked Maher if she’d have been ok with her mother aborting her. Militant pro-aborts really hate it when you ask that question, and usually try and dodge it by saying we “shouldn’t engage in hypotheticals” – even though hypotheticals are hallmarks of their justification for abortion on demand.

That Porter’s callous remarks were so well-received by members of her Democratic pro-abortion tribe just goes to show how deeply seeped into the American conscience the “right” to kill an unborn child actually is, and how much work the pro-life community still has to do to overcome it.

Citing “Moral Clarity”, Gillibrand Says Appointing Pro-Life Judges is Like Appointing Anti-Semitic Judges

Westlake Legal Group Kirsten-Gillibrand Citing “Moral Clarity”, Gillibrand Says Appointing Pro-Life Judges is Like Appointing Anti-Semitic Judges Pro-Life Politics North Carolina New York Kirsten Gillibrand Iowa Front Page Stories Front Page Feminism Featured Story Featured Post elections democrats Culture Campaigns Allow Media Exception Abortion 2020 Elections 2020

Perhaps more so than any other Democratic presidential contender, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) has made it a point to try and establish herself as *the* pro-abortion candidate that pro-choice women can turn to.

In the aftermath of the fetal heartbeat bills signed into law in Georgia and Alabama last month, Gillibrand essentially called for a purge of pro-life Democrats from the party.

She told the Washington Post at the time that “As a party, we should be 100 percent pro-choice, and it should be nonnegotiable.” She also endorsed Democratic Rep. Dan Lipinski’s (IL-3) pro-choice primary challenger back in April.

Just recently, while on a campaign trip in Iowa, Gillibrand sat down with the Des Moines Register editorial board and gave an interview. During the interview, Gillibrand went on an extreme rant, equating appointing pro-life judges to appointing judges who were racist, homophobic, or anti-Semitic:

“I think there’s some issues that have such moral clarity that we have as a society decided that the other side is not acceptable,” Gillibrand said during an interview with the Des Moines Register on Tuesday

“Imagine saying that it’s OK to appoint a judge who’s racist, or anti-Semitic, or homophobic,” she continued. “Asking someone to appoint someone who takes away basic human rights of any group of people in America … I don’t think those are political issues anymore.”

She then went on to suggest that the reason pro-life Americans wanted like-minded judges on the bench was because they wanted to impose their religious beliefs on society:

“We believe in this country in the separation of church and state, and I respect the rights of every American to hold their religious beliefs true to themselves, but our country and our Constitution has always demanded that we have a separation of church and state,” she said.

[…]

“All these efforts by President Trump, and other ultra-radical conservative judges and justices to impose their faith on Americans is contrary to our Constitution, and that’s what this is,” Gillibrand said.

Watch the interview segment below:

Her comments were outright appalling, despicable, and, as Alexandra DeSanctis said, “malicious.” There is literally no one who could make a good-faith argument for appointing a “homophobic, racist, or anti-Semitic” judge. There are plenty of good arguments that could be made in good faith on appointing a pro-life judge.

If I had a dime for everytime someone told me that I was trying to turn America into racist theocracy because of my pro-life views and desire to see a like-minded judge on the bench, I could retire comfortably at an early age. In addition to being a disgusting argument, it’s also a lazy argument made by pro-abortion liberals designed to – you guessed it – shut down the debate.

While it’s true that religious arguments have been made in the past to justify pro-life positions, the more commonly used rationale is quite simple (and has nothing to do with racism): This is a a moral issue much like the debate over slavery was long ago. As I’ve written before:

The “right” to terminate unborn life is most definitely a moral issue much like slavery was when it was legal. The fact that it was legal did not make it “right” no more than abortion being legal makes it “right” to do.

Gillibrand supports the unrestricted right to terminate an unborn life up until the moment of birth, even if the unborn baby is viable and healthy. The next time she wants to brag about how “morally clear” her position is on the issue, someone needs to ask her which abortion option she believes causes the least amount of pain to an unborn baby: Vacuum aspiration or dilation and evacuation?

Ghoul Alert: ‘Teen Vogue’ Instructs Young Girls on How to Get Abortions – Without Parental Consent

I’m not sure what’s worse: Teen Vogue sexualizing 9-year-old drag queen boys, the magazine publishing a “guide to anal sex“, or a more recent story they did advising teenage girls how to get abortions without parental consent:

The magazine has a monthly “Down to Find Out” advice column, which is maintained by feminist writer Nona Willis Aronowitz, who was super-excited to announce her column gig last month:

In her latest column, Aronowitz advises a 16-year-old girl on how to get an abortion – without the consent of her parents:

Q: I’m 16, I’m pregnant, and I don’t want to be. I’m not sure if I’m allowed to get an abortion without my parents’ permission, but I’m really scared to tell them because they are both against abortion. What should I do?

Aronowitz, who is also the author of a subscription-only newsletter called “F*cking Through the Apocalypse”, told the teen she once had been a pregnant teenager, too – but had pro-abortion parents who helped her obtain access to Plan B “without judging or admonishing” her. Other teens weren’t so lucky, she lamented. But according to Aronowitz, that shouldn’t deter a teenager from getting an abortion (bolded emphasis added):

And it’s only logical that if teens are mature enough to become parents, they are mature enough to decide whether or not they want to give birth. Having access to abortion should be your right, regardless of your parents’ beliefs.

Noting that 37 states have some form of parental consent laws on the books, Aronowitz advised:

If you live in one of the handful of states in which a minor can get an abortion without parental involvement — and if you don’t want to tell your parents — you’re all set. But if the law does require that your parents are involved, it’s time for some soul-searching about how you think they’ll react when confronted directly with their pregnant child’s desire to not be.

Aronowitz first advised that teenage girls whose parents are not pro-choice to try and tell them anyway, unless they felt like they would be in danger or kicked out of the house. If they did, Aronowitz suggested the teens go for what’s called a “judicial bypass procedure”:

If yes, there is a legal option in 36 states that would let you get an abortion without parental approval called a judicial bypass procedure — an infantilizing holdup to which nobody should have to resort. The process for a judicial bypass is different in every state, but in each case that it’s an option, it involves a minor testifying before a judge and receiving court approval to access abortion care without telling their parents.

Whether or not a state requires a judicial bypass, Aronowitz lets her teen readers know they can contact a local abortion fund if they need help paying for their abortion (without their parent’s knowledge, of course). She also urged young girls “talk to another adult” about what they are going through if they don’t want to talk to their parents.

In response to Aronowitz’s column, Twitter users let her have it:

That would certainly be a switch!

Meghan McCain on Biden’s Hyde flip-flop: “I feel slighted as someone who was open to him being president”

Westlake Legal Group mm-1 Meghan McCain on Biden’s Hyde flip-flop: “I feel slighted as someone who was open to him being president” The Blog Pro-Life pro-choice Meghan McCain hyde biden amendment Abortion

Interesting choice of the past tense there. Sooooo … no McCain family endorsement then, or what?

Her point here is well taken, and in fact I made a version of it myself on Friday. Why would Biden pander to the left on Hyde knowing that he’ll never be the left’s top choice? You can’t out-progressive Bernie Sanders, says Meg, so why try? Stick to the center instead. But let me play devil’s advocate: Sometimes candidates need to pander to their base even if everyone involved knows it’s insincere. Look no further than Trump, a guy who’s been sold since the day he announced his candidacy in 2015 as the ultimate straight-talking tell-it-like-it-is anti-politician. He’s brash, he’s bold — he’ll give you his unvarnished view and never dream of apologizing for it.

But that’s nonsense. Trump is a hardcore base-panderer on all of the right’s tribal cultural sensitivities. Is an ex-Democrat TV star who was born and raised in New York City, became (in)famous for enjoying the good life, and indicated virtually no knowledge of and little interest in religion until he ran for president actually strongly pro-life, pro-gun, and cool to LGBT rights? Of course not. God only knows how he really feels about those issues, and God only knows how the average evangelical Christian Republican voter imagines how Trump really feels about those issues. But he had the basic good sense when he ran for the GOP nomination to grasp which issues he could cross the base on and which he couldn’t. At best, his right-wing orthodoxy on social issues is sincere; at worst, it’s a tacit bargain with cultural conservatives that he’ll govern their way on “values” matters if they let him govern his way on the stuff he really cares about, i.e. protectionism and isolationism.

Biden’s sending the same signal with his Hyde flip-flop. He’s saying to the left that even if they find his newfound opposition to the amendment insincere, which it is, they’re not taking a risk on key cultural sensitivities by electing him. He’s not going to go full Bernie on economics (I think) but he’ll throw progressives a bone on abortion to show them that he’ll govern the way they want on matters that are “beyond politics,” so to speak. Also, this must be borne in mind: Although the conventional wisdom has it that leftists despise Biden, polling shows that it’s just not true. Whether by dint of pure name recognition or for more substantive reasons, he’s highly competitive among self-described “liberals” in surveys. He actually led Bernie Sanders, 25/24, among that group in CNN’s latest. In Quinnipiac’s recent poll of Texas, Biden was second among self-described “very liberal” Democrats, trailing Elizabeth Warren and ahead of Bernie again by a point. He really might have damaged himself in the competition for those voters if he’d stuck with Hyde. Whereas centrist Dems who may have preferred that he stuck with Hyde find themselves today in a tough position: Until Beto or Klobuchar or some other “moderate” shows signs of breaking out, Biden’s the only game in town.

As much as I admire Meg’s commitment to the pro-life cause, the reality is that if we end up with a Trump/Biden race abortion will matter only in the accustomed way, as a subsidiary issue in considering which Supreme Court appointments each candidate might make. The Hyde Amendment isn’t going anywhere until Democrats have total control of government again, and maybe not even then. By the time we get to the general election, the country will be consumed by the many wounds Biden’s record sustained during the primaries and the many, many new petty outrages Trump will have committed between now and then. McCain’s not going to passively endorse four more years of Trump by staying home just because Uncle Joe took a new position on a law that’s not going to change anyway.

180 Business Executives Seem to Think We Care About Their Pro-Abortion Petition

FILE – In this Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015, file photo, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is interviewed on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. Dorsey said Nov. 22, 2016, that the social media platform accidentally suspended his own account. (AP Photo/Richard Drew, File)

With the anti-abortion wave hitting America, the leftist elite has been up in arms trying to dissuade the growth of the movement by threatening to withdraw business from participating states. A recent petition from 180 business executives is just one more drop in the bucket of businesses who think people will take them seriously if they band together and plead for the stopping of child murder to stop.

According to Fox Business, CEOs like Twitter’s Jack Dorsey and Bloomberg chairman Peter Grauer joined nearly 200 other executives to protest recent anti-abortion laws, describing anti-abortion legislation as “bad for business”:

The letter, which appeared as a full-page ad in the Monday edition of The New York Times under the titled “Don’t Ban Equality,”Opens a New Window. called on companies to “stand up for reproductive health care.” CEOs from media, fashion, beauty, food and tech companies were among those listed as signatories.

“Restricting access to comprehensive reproductive care, including abortion, threatens the health, independence and economic stability of our employees and customers,” the letter stated. “Simply put, it goes against our values, and is bad for business.”

“It impairs our ability to build diverse and inclusive workforce pipelines, recruit top talent across the states, and protect the wellbeing of all the people who keep our businesses thriving day in and out,” it added.

You can see the print out version of the ad, along with all the signatories, here.

If you’re looking for an explanation on how abortion restrictions impair the “ability to build diverse and inclusive workforce pipelines” then you won’t find it anywhere, as the CEO’s don’t care to explain it. However, if I was to guess what they’re getting at, then I can only conclude that they consider pregnancy and being a mother to be a massive problem for women.

It’s definitely a complication, but it’s not the end of the world. It definitely changes your life, but it doesn’t end it.

However, the letter only gets more ridiculous.

“The future of gender equality hangs in the balance, putting our families, communities, businesses and the economy at risk,” the letter stated.

Let’s dissect that one point at a time.

Gender equality has already been achieved. In fact, we have laws around it. The ability to have an abortion has nothing to do with the rights of women, and everything to do with protecting life. If men were the only ones who could have abortions then the fight would be the absolute same, no matter what the old feminist joke says.

Furthermore, I can simply say that abortion is a threat to a family as it literally eliminates a family member from this plane of existence.

Lastly, I’m not sure how it puts the business and economy at risk seeing as how more people means more chances for your product to be purchased and used. It’s a backward thing to say that a reduction of customers is better for business.

More importantly than dissecting their points, however, is the question of why we should care about their opinion. Like Hollywood celebrities, high-profile CEOs seem to believe that because a decent amount of people ask “how high” when told to jump, that the rest of America is ready to be their yes-men.

I’ve got sour news for them. Even coming together like some executive Voltron and presenting a united front of leftist CEO’s isn’t going to convince people who hate abortion to stop hating it. What’s more, these businesses aren’t going to stop serving people in those states over it. It’s a hollow effort.

As far as I can tell, this was an effort at self-promotion. A chance to be on a who’s who list of leftist corporate elites. Having your name on this list makes you look important at the coastal cocktail parties they attend, and fair enough…

…but the rest of us don’t care.

It’s Not Over: Resolution Introduced in PA State House to Censure Bully Brian Sims

PA State Rep. Brian Sims (D) stalks pro-lifers outside of a Planned Parenthood. Screen grab via Life News HQ.

Pennsylvania State Rep. Brian Sims (D) might have thought the uproar surrounding his despicable attempts at harassing and doxxing three pro-life teenagers and an elderly pro-life woman at a local Planned Parenthood were behind him, but one state legislator says not so fast.

PennLive reports on Rep. Jerry Knowles (R) and his efforts at having Sims censured over his actions:

Rep. Jerry Knowles is seeking support for a resolution that asks for Sims, a four-term Philadelphia Democrat, to be removed from the four committees of which he is a member and to bar him from being appointed to any positions or committees for the remainder of his term that expires on Nov. 30, 2020.

[…]

House Democratic spokesman Bill Patton said previously Sims has discussed his behavior with House Democratic and Republican leaders and Democratic leaders “are satisfied it will not be repeated. Republican leaders are aware of this.” Patton did not respond to a request for comment about Knowles’ resolution late Tuesday afternoon.

Noting Sims has failed to apologize for what he did, Knowles listed his reasons for seeking the Democrat’s censure in a memo requesting co-sponsors:

On the first occasion, Representative Sims recorded himself berating, harassing, and violating the First Amendment rights of an individual, whom he labeled, an “old, white lady” for peacefully protesting and praying in public.

On the second occasion, Representative Sims again recorded himself berating, harassing others. He went a step further the second time, though, calling for the “doxing” of three minor children and one adult female. By soliciting strangers on the internet for their personal identifying information (i.e. names and addresses), Sims placed these citizens in reasonable fear for their own safety, merely because they were exercising their constitutional right to peacefully protest.

It should be noted that Representative Sims also used his elected position to intimidate the individuals with whom he was interacting, clearly stating on the videos that he was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

As part of my censure resolution, I ask that Representative Sims be removed as a member of all standing committees and that he receives no appointments to any positions or committees that fall under the authority of the Speaker or House Leadership, for the remainder of this term.

Since that time, numerous co-sponsors have signed on to the resolution. You can read the full text of House Resolution 387 here.

Knowles is right. To date, Sims has not apologized to the women he stalked at the Philadelphia Planned Parenthood.

The resolution is being well-received by pro-life groups, according to Life News HQ:

Maria V. Gallagher, legislative director of the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation, praised the effort.

“Women and girls should not be harassed simply for exercising their First Amendment rights,” Gallagher told LifeNews. “For the sake of the dignity of women, the Constitution, and the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, this resolution deserves passage.”

The Pennsylvania General Assembly is controlled by Republicans. The state’s governor, Tom Wolf, is a Democrat who issued a tepid statement on the Sims bullying incidents last month.

After much confusion, pressure, and waffling earlier this week over his Hyde Amendment stance, 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden announced Thursday that he had officially reversed course on his long-held position on the 43-year-old pro-life amendment.

To recap:

“If I believe health care is a right, as I do, I can no longer support an amendment that makes that right dependent on someone’s ZIP code,” he said.

The Hyde Amendment is a four-decade-old ban on federal dollars being used for abortions except in cases of rape, incest or when the woman’s life is in danger.

[…]

Biden told the crowd Thursday night he had changed his mind because Republican state lawmakers have enacted “extreme laws in clear violation of constitutional rights” protected by the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision, making access to abortions more difficult for women who cannot afford the procedure or travel to obtain it.

He said he makes “no apologies” for his previous support for the Hyde Amendment.

“But circumstances have changed. I’ve been working through the final details of my health care plan like others in this race and I’ve been struggling with the problems that Hyde now presents,” Biden said.

Naturally, Biden is receiving a lot of justifiable criticism from conservatives over his politically convenient flip flop, but perhaps none will leave as deep a burn as the one issued by GOP Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, who tweeted this Thursday night:

Ouch.

McDaniel was referring to plagiarism allegations that have long plagued Biden’s political career, most recently over his climate change plan.

In spite of that, and in spite of the numerous unwanted touching allegations he faced earlier this year, Biden has consistently been ahead by double digits in Democratic presidential polling – even well before he jumped into the race.

Good news for her, I guess: As of about 16 hours ago, he no longer supports it. But check back in an hour, because he might have another position by then.

This episode reminds me at first blush of when Trump said during the 2016 primaries that he’d support some form of legal punishment for women who attempt to abort if and when the practice is banned, only to retreat immediately after pro-life groups informed him that that’s not their position. But that’s not really the right analogy to Biden’s reversal on Hyde. Trump’s episode appeared to be a case of him failing what Charles Cooke called an “ideological Turing Test”: He’s not really a social conservative and doesn’t understand why social conservatives believe what they believe so he tried to imitate one by articulating a position he assumed they held. Once he found out that they didn’t, he regrouped hastily.

Having been a senator for nearly 40 years and a VP for eight, Biden knows perfectly well what progressives believe on abortion. And unlike Trump, he didn’t err by going further on his base’s pet issue than the base itself was willing to go. He committed the more familiar centrist error of being unwilling to go as far as they wanted to, siding with pro-lifers on the Hyde Amendment before reversing himself under pressure from the left. All of which is a long way of saying that Trump’s flip-flop was somewhat understandable, borne of ignorance, whereas Biden’s is completely farking mystifying. He knows this issue. He knows that it’s litmus-test material for progressives. He also has a very specific strategy for winning the primaries, which is to let the rest of the field split the left while he runs to the center. Whether to stick with the Hyde Amendment was a tough call for him in that he had to decide whether to fail a lefty litmus test and stay true to his centrist strategy by sticking to his traditional position or to try to pass the litmus test by reversing on it and inevitably be accused by rivals of changing his beliefs for political expedience. There’d be some pain involved in either approach, but that’s politics.

What seems inexplicable to me is trying out both approaches in the span of 24 hours, guaranteeing that he won’t reap any benefits from either. Remaining momentarily pro-Hyde confirms progressives’ suspicions that he’s a squishy apostate at heart, never mind his subsequent reversal. Flipping to anti-Hyde confirms to centrists that he can be bullied into leftist positions by the left if he’s elected, which defeats the whole point of nominating him if you’re a Democrat who’s worried about socialism taking over the party. And of course, the reversal feeds public perceptions that Biden’s a bad campaigner and a guy who takes way too long to make up his mind, as we saw most recently in his endless “should I or shouldn’t I?” deliberations about whether to announce. All he had to do here was pick one position or another, adopt it early, and stick to it. Instead, this. What on earth was he thinking?

Now it’s open season:

A few days ago David Byler of WaPo called Biden “the Democratic Mitt Romney,” comparing his position in the 2020 field to Mitt’s position in the 2012 field. It may be, argued Byler, that Democratic voters end up “trying on” various other candidates by lifting them to frontrunner status in the polls before eventually returning to Biden as the safe choice, which is what happened to Romney seven years ago. The analogy goes beyond that, though: Romney also had a rap for flip-flopping that made the base suspicious of him in 2012, so much so that he felt obliged to stand behind his RomneyCare plan in Massachusetts rather than commit the mother of all flip-flops and denounce it in the name of proving that he opposed ObamaCare. Biden could have done something like that in the case of the Hyde Amendment, saying, “I’m pro-choice but I respect Americans’ sensitivities about this and would rather the practice be funded without federal dollars, as I’ve always believed.” He chose to cave instead. What now?

Here’s AOC followed by the chief strategist for Obama/Biden 2008 warning Uncle Joe that he’s made a mistake here.

A city council meeting in Raleigh, North Carolina became extremely contentious Tuesday night when 13 year-old Addison Woosley stepped up to the microphone to speak out against abortion and ask the city to outlaw it.

The Raleigh News and Observer reports on what the young girl said to the council, and what happened next:

“On ultrasounds the baby tries to run away from the disturbing instruments that try to kill the baby,” she said. “The baby’s mouth opens wide in a scream when being killed. These babies are alive. They feel being killed. It hurts them and there is nothing they can do about it. There is no way around it. Abortion is murder.”

She then compared abortion to slavery and said she hoped people would look back on abortion with the same disgust as people look back on slavery. She asked people to pick a side.

“Are you choosing to be like the plantation owner flogging the little black child?,” she said. “Or are you going to protest even if it is going to cost you your life like Martin Luther King Jr?”

That’s when the shouting grew stronger.

“Y’all are so disrespectful,” a woman in the audience shouted at the anti-abortion speakers. “Let black people speak for black people when we are in the room. We can speak for ourselves.”

The article also noted that some of the hecklers demanded Mayor Pro Tem Corey Branch cut Woolsey’s speech short. In response, he noted that everyone has the right to speak.

Watch video of what happened below:

A couple of things: I wasn’t uncomfortable with the speech itself, but I was uncomfortable with the fact that it was a 13-year-old girl giving it. She definitely has the right to say these things, of course, but was she coached by an adult into giving her remarks? I have a hard time believing she researched some of that information all on her own.

In my mind, abortion is an adult’s debate, not a child’s. There are a lot of layers to the debate that children don’t understand and when they speak on it, it doesn’t even sound like their own words.

For years, I’ve watched the abortion debate play out here in North Carolina, and usually it’s the left who use children to help them spread their pro-abortion messages. During protests and marches on the state capital, it is not uncommon to see so-called “feminists” bring kids to these marches – some barely old enough to walk, giving them obscene signs about a “woman’s right to choose” and instructing them on how to hold them.

In one particularly disturbing case in 2013, the Burlington Times-News wrote a puff-piece about 12-year-old Madison Kimrey who was … a pro-abortion activist. Her mother, also a pro-abortion activist, would drive her to protest marches (bolded emphasis add):

But the girl from Burlington wants the right to do both those things one day, and on Tuesday she went to the state Executive Mansion to protest legislation Gov. Pat McCrory signed into law that limits abortion access and eliminates the program allowing students to preregister to vote prior to turning 18.

[…]

She convinced her mother, Mary — who’d participated in Planned Parenthood’s vigil on Monday — to head back to the Executive Mansion.

[…]

Kimrey said she has attended three Moral Mondays on behalf of voting rights, equality and access to abortion.

[…]

That’s how she became passionate about voting rights and the ability to preregister before turning 18. Kimrey has written about that topic on her blog — which gets about 200 views a day — as well as her strong feelings about homosexual equality, animal rights and access to abortion.

Though Kimrey recognizes the bill McCrory signed into law doesn’t physically limit access to abortion clinics, she said, “The way he’s made it now, it’s going to be so expensive … it’s going to be near impossible for people to (afford).”

Kimrey would later demand a meeting with then Gov. Pat McCrory (R). When the Governor correctly pointed out that Kimrey was being used as kiddie human shield by adults in the abortion/voting rights debate, liberals here in North Carolina were outraged.

Liberal TV shows on MSNBC and websites like MoveOn, Salon, Daily Kos, and HuffPo wrote glowing profiles of Kimrey, saying she would “restore” our faith in the future of politics. She was treated like a hero for future generations. I found all of it extremely disturbing.

I think we should let children be children, and let the adults take the lead in political debates.

That being said, that Woolsey was heckled as she was just shows the complete disregard Raleigh liberals have for the rights of others to speak out. It didn’t matter that she was a “baby”, as some in the crowd yelled out as she spoke. It was the fact that she was speaking against abortion and making an apt comparison between the “right” to abortion and what used to be the “right” to own slaves. This is a big no no in Raleigh, which is a liberal hotbed of intolerance for conservative viewpoints.

Just a day after that council meeting, North Carolina Democrats cheered over the failure of the N.C. House to override Gov. Roy Cooper’s (D) veto of a Born Alive bill.
