Are you ready for the next James Bond movie? I am.

And the new villain is gonna be, reportedly, that most dastardly thing of all: eco-friendly.

The Sun reports:

As the plot is shrouded in secrecy, it is not clear what the villain is plotting to do or how 007 confronts him.

But:

[Bond’s] unnamed nemesis – nicknamed Greenfinger by insiders – has a lair powered by an algae farm and with a Zen garden.

Perhaps he’ll do eco things like suspend himself from a bridge just before a national debate, and cost the city millions of dollars.

Aw, dang it:

For now, mum’s the word. Except the eco thing:

Director Cary Joji Fukunaga is so keen to keep the plot under wraps he has reportedly filmed three endings. But an eco-friendly villain would be a Bond first. One theory is that algae blooms can produce deadly toxins.

One source told The Sun Bond’s Enemy #1 will be played by Rami Malek, who won an Oscar for Bohemian Rhapsody. And he’s into slime:

[A] source said: “The baddie’s lair apparently has a giant algae farm.

“Something like that would look very sinister and green so will look great on the screen.”

“Quite how it will impact Bond only the scriptwriters can know but fans will be keen to find out.”

As reported by The Daily Wire, Rami explained to The Mirror he was excited to be in the film, but he demanded his Middle Eastern character not be an Islamic terrorist:

“It’s a great character and I’m very excited,” Malek told The Mirror earlier this year. “But that was one thing that I discussed with [director] Cary Fukunaga. I said, ‘We cannot identify him with any act of terrorism reflecting an ideology or a religion. That’s not something I would entertain, so if that is why I am your choice then you can count me out’. But that was clearly not his vision. So he’s a very different kind of terrorist.”

Maybe he can be the kind of environmental terrorist who shuts down 20+ intersections or petrifies children to the point of them pledging not to reproduce.

Rami said he’s Egyptian, and he wants only positive representations of his people:

“I am Egyptian. I grew up listening to Egyptian music. I loved Omar Sharif,” Malek said. “These are my people. I feel so gorgeously tied to the culture and the human beings that exist there.”

Unfortunately — and, perhaps, yet unbeknownst to the actor — the fact that he’s the villain will mean he’s a mass murderer.

And murdering people for reasons other than religion doesn’t make it any better.

Australian Media Outlets ‘Redact’ Front Pages In Protest of New Government Censorship Laws

Westlake Legal Group press-300x163 Australian Media Outlets ‘Redact’ Front Pages In Protest of New Government Censorship Laws redacted protest press International Affairs Front Page Stories Free Speech Featured Story Censorship Australia

Australian news corporations are in full revolt after their parliament instituted new and heavier laws restricting reporting and effectively censoring news outlets and reporters.

Much like in America, Australia has several competing and ideologically opposed media outlets. In a rare show of solidarity, typically warring media entities coordinated their headlines Monday to reflect the new censorship laws. Their front pages appeared to be “redacted” in the typical black-line fashion one sees in redacted government reports.

Australia does not have basic free speech rights the way we understand them in America. In the past they have added safeguards for whistleblowers. Journalists are suggesting their profession needs similar protections given recent events.

The issue came to a boil soon after the May re-election of Australia’s Liberal-led conservative government, when police raided the head office of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) in Sydney and the home of a News Corp editor on suspicion of receiving national secrets.

The raids, which involved police examination of about 9,000 computer files at the ABC and sifting through the female News Corp editor’s underwear drawer, drew international condemnation.

The British Broadcasting Corporation called the raids “deeply troubling”.

Earlier this year Australia’s oppressive reporting laws came to light internationally after outlets were prevented from reporting on a child sex abuse scandal involving the former Vatican treasurer.

Global attention turned to media freedoms in Australia early this year when a court order prevented media from reporting that the former Vatican treasurer, Cardinal George Pell, had been found guilty on child sex abuse charges.

Some Australian outlets reported that an unidentified person had been convicted but some foreign media companies identified Pell because they were outside Australia’s jurisdiction.

Prosecutors are now seeking fines and jail sentences for three dozen Australian journalists and publishers for their trial coverage. Pell is appealing against his convictions.

The head of Australia’s media union expressed his disgust for the new, harsher measures.

“Journalism is a fundamental pillar of our democracy,” said Paul Murphy, the chief executive of the industry union.

“It exists to scrutinise the powerful, shine a light on wrongdoing and hold governments to account, but the Australian public is being kept in the dark,” he said in a statement.

Australia is an ally, a proud and prosperous country. We think of them as a free country. This is a stark reminder that the American brand of freedom is not only unique but a wholly foreign concept to people outside of our framework.

ESPN warns staff: Don’t go into specifics about China and Hong Kong when discussing Daryl Morey’s tweet

Westlake Legal Group e-1 ESPN warns staff: Don’t go into specifics about China and Hong Kong when discussing Daryl Morey’s tweet The Blog protest Houston Rockets Hong Kong ESPN Disney Daryl Morey Chuck Salituro China

Remember that ESPN is owned by Disney, and that China is willing and able to punish a parent organization for criticism by its subsidiary. It’s not just Houston Rockets games that have been banned from Chinese airwaves over Daryl Morey’s pro-Hong-Kong tweet, after all. It’s the entire NBA preseason.

So imagine what the consequences might be for Disney’s operations in China, starting with access to Chinese movie theaters for Disney films, if ESPN began applying a little of its famous wokeness towards China’s regard for human rights.

Some network employees are playing dumb about any change in the network’s coverage of this subject…

…but Deadspin has the goods in the form of a memo sent to staff by ESPN’s senior news director urging them not to delve into details about the dispute between China and Hong Kong. Congrats to the network, I guess, on finally discovering a political topic that it doesn’t want to opine on.

The memo doesn’t ask staff to take China’s side in the Hong Kong debate but, wouldn’t you know it, according to Deadspin much of the commentary thus far has been critical of Morey and scrupulously neutral on the sensitive subject of whether Hong Kongers deserve basic due process rights.

If you paid attention to ESPN channels yesterday, you saw the network repeatedly attempt to grapple with the story of Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey creating an international incident after tweeting and then deleting his support for pro-democracy protestors in Hong Kong. You heard talking head after talking head castigate Morey for sending the tweet, speculation over whether he’d keep his job, speculation about the sincerity of his convictions, discussions about what this meant for the Rockets’ bottom line, the observation that it’s unreasonable to expect for-profit companies like the NBA to act morally, and the non-take that cowing to China is simply the cost of doing business in China

Chuck Salituro, the senior news director of ESPN, sent a memo to shows mandating that any discussion of the Daryl Morey story avoid any political discussions about China and Hong Kong, and instead focus on the related basketball issues. The memo, obtained by Deadspin, explicitly discouraged any political discussion about China and Hong Kong. Multiple ESPN sources confirmed to Deadspin that network higher-ups were keeping a close eye on how the topic was discussed on ESPN’s airwaves…

Any summary of the tensions between China and Hong Kong is going to be necessarily reductive, but a summary of what’s actually going on at least provides basic context for the rest of the discussion. The idea that Chinese politics are simply too complex to talk about on sports TV just isn’t convincing.

ESPN has toned down its on-air politicking over the past 18 months after justified complaints from righties that the network had adopted a conspicuously “woke” identity. Too much politics, not enough sports, viewers claimed. Jemele Hill, their most outspoken host, was moved off the SportsCenter desk and the network’s president vowed to stick to the thing that ESPN became famous for in the first place. But there was an exception to that policy: Obviously, some sports stories do involve politics. If the network is going to cover Colin Kaepernick’s collusion grievance against the NFL, for instance, it has to discuss the claim that he’s been blackballed for refusing to stand during the anthem.

The NBA’s quagmire in China is a textbook example of that sports/politics intersection, notes Deadspin. If you can’t cover Kaepernick’s legal battle with the NFL without discussing the underlying details, how can you discuss the NBA’s standoff with China without addressing the merits of Morey’s pro-Hong-Kong tweet? Political context is crucial to letting viewers decide which party is in the right, which depends in part on their assessment of the righteousness of the cause in Hong Kong. Did Morey say something so egregious that China, and the NBA, are entitled to be angry with him, and the Rockets to fire him? Or is China trying to censor an anodyne expression of support for a pro-democracy movement, aided and abetted by propaganda pushed by American corporations that fear loss of access to the Chinese market?

If American sports figures are being unjustly pressured to genuflect to Chinese communist sensibilities, that seems like a story. I wonder why Disney-owned ESPN, which also happens to have a deal with Chinese tech leviathan Tencent, isn’t eager to tell it.

At Slate, Tom Scocca says it’s time for the NBA to pull the plug on China. It’ll only get worse from here, not better.

The message of a spiel like Tsai’s is that foreign institutions can coexist with the Chinese government on mutual terms of respect, as long as those institutions honor the boundaries around China’s nonnegotiable sensitivities. The truth, though, is that those boundaries are constantly moving. Ever since the 2008 Beijing Olympics, which were supposed to celebrate China’s full integration into the international order, the government has been aggressively tightening the limits, confident that the terms of engagement mean foreign entities will have to go along—whether it’s a matter of putting Communist Party officials onto university boards, or stifling news coverage of leadership’s self-enrichment, or censoring a movie, or removing apps from the Chinese market…

China has already played its hand. If Hong Kong is nonnegotiable, there’s nothing to discuss. The subject will become more sensitive, not less, if the Hong Kong police move from tear gas and rubber bullets to the routine use of live ammunition, or if the People’s Liberation Army moves in. Would the NBA muzzle its employees then? Would the players and staff of a globally prominent American company censor their own feelings to protect the Chinese market? Why not take the stand before it gets to that?

If you want a firsthand look at how pitiful ESPN’s coverage can be, go watch the Deadspin video of Stephen A. Smith ranting yesterday — not about Chinese human-rights abuses, not about the NBA groveling and risking cooptation by a totalitarian state in the name of making a buck, but about Morey’s alleged selfishness in not thinking of the Rockets’ bottom line before tweeting. Coming soon to the Stephen A. Smith Show, I presume: The Uighur menace. Could it happen here? Stay tuned.” Ironically, one person who has acquitted herself well in all this is — ta da — Jemele Hill, who has a piece at the Atlantic today taking the NBA to task for its hypocrisy. If the league is going to speak up in defense of NBA players’ right to protest social injustice, she insists, it needs to speak up in defense of Daryl Morey’s right to do the same. Indeed.

Iraq: Internet switched off and at least 33 killed as protests break out

Westlake Legal Group Iraq-2 Iraq: Internet switched off and at least 33 killed as protests break out The Blog protest Iraq BAGHDAD

Iraq is suddenly looking a bit like Hong Kong. But in Baghdad police were quick to open fire on protesters with live ammunition as the government shut down the internet to stop the flow of information:

Anti-government demonstrators defied an around-the-clock curfew in Baghdad and other cities Thursday as Iraqi security forces used live ammunition and tear gas during a third day of unrest that has left 33 people dead, most of them protesters.

Authorities cut internet access in much of Iraq since late Wednesday in a desperate move to curb the rallies. By Thursday afternoon, the curfew was extended to three other southern provinces…

Middle East expert Jennifer Cafarella, with the Washington-based Institute for the Study of War, said the immediate and widespread use of force against protesters in multiple provinces demonstrates “that the security forces are overwhelmed by the volume and rate of spread” of the rallies.

The protests began Tuesday and appear to spread very quickly. The source of the protester’s anger is economic more than political, though protesters are calling for the ouster of the current government:

The latest violence began as sporadic protests earlier in the week with demonstrators demanding an end to government corruption, nationwide unemployment and a crippling lack of basic services such as electricity and clean water…

Some of the protesters’ demands include the “fall of the regime” and demonstrators have set government and political party buildings ablaze in two southern provinces.

In addition, Al-Monitor reports there is a strain of anti-Iranian influence to the protests, pointing to several incidents in recent weeks which fueled public anger:

Many protesters called for a homeland, or watan, in Arabic, and some also shouted slogans against Iran for interfering in Iraqi matters and supporting failed parties in Iraq…

Last week, the prime minister dismissed the deputy commander of Iraq’s counterterrorism bureau, Abdul-Wahab al-Saadi, provoking anger and discontent among Iraqis. Many protesters carried photos of Saadi at the protests.

Saadi’s dismissal caused discontent in several political parties, including the National Wisdom Movement, the Sadrist movement and Osama al-Nujaifi’s Iraqi Decision Coalition, raising suspicions over Iranian interference in his dismissal, as he was independent of Iranian proxies in Iraq, whether in the Iraqi army or the PMU.

In another incident, the Iranian ambassador in Baghdad, Iraj Masjedi, said in a TV interview with Dijlah channel last week that Iran would target the United States in Iraq if the United States threatened Iran. Iraqis took this as clear Iranian interference in Iraqi matters.

Because the internet is down today, video of what is happening is limited. In this clip from yesterday you can hear gunshots which cause a large mass of protesters to turn and run:

In this more recent video, protesters burn a police vehicle:

This Al Jazeera report contains some good interviews. One man says Iraqis are begging on the streets and when they come out to protest they are being shot at by security forces from Iran.

Watch: Montage of Kids and Young Adult Climate Activists Going Nuts Shows Just How Deep the Brainwashing Goes

Westlake Legal Group Untitled-1-Copy-620x405 Watch: Montage of Kids and Young Adult Climate Activists Going Nuts Shows Just How Deep the Brainwashing Goes protest Media Greta Thunberg Front Page Stories Featured Story environment Culture Climate Change Climate Alan Jones

One of the more disturbing things about the church of Climate Change — besides its penchant for completely ignoring facts that may trouble its narrative like the world continuously not ending whenever they say it will — is how they get the youth to truly believe that the end is nigh.

They don’t just get them to believe it, they get them to become zealous about it to the point of evangelism so furious that they will scream, yell, and cry in public about it.

A solid example is the recent climate change events held in various locations around the globe, where young men and women, and even children, were ushered up on the stage where they angrily chastised previous generations for their failures. The most famous among them, of course, is Greta Thunberg, who gave what many are calling a speech that made them feel sorrier for her than anything.

A video montage was compiled that really highlights just how deep these kids are in the clutches of the climate change religion, as well as how the left is using this religion as a political tool to turn the youth against Trump and Republicans.

Using children to push your agenda is one of the more despicable things the left does, and in the case of Thunberg, it’s even more sickening given her mental illness.

As for the rest of them, however, the response to the virtue signaling of these kids was masterfully done in a letter that was read on air by Australian broadcaster Alan Jones.

“You’re the biggest consumer of manufactured goods ever, and update perfectly good expensive luxury items to stay trendy,” said Jones. “Your entertainment comes from electric devices. Furthermore, the people driving your protests are the same people who insist on artificially inflating the population growth through immigration which increases the need for energy, manufacturing and transport.”

“How about this,” said Jones, “tell your teacher to turn off the air-con, walk or ride to school, switch off your devices and read a book, make a sandwich instead of buying manufactured fast food.”

“But none of this will happen because, the piece says, you’re selfish, badly educated, virtue-signaling little turds inspired by the adults around you who crave a feeling of having a noble cause while they indulge themselves in western luxury and unprecedented quality of life. The piece ends by saying wake up, grow up, and shut up  until you’re sure of the facts before protesting.”

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

American lectures Hong Kong protesters: ‘You guys value freedom more than safety’

Westlake Legal Group american-hong-kong American lectures Hong Kong protesters: ‘You guys value freedom more than safety’ The Blog protest Hong Kong freedom american

This has to be seen to be believed. According to Raw Story, this video was first posted by a Twitter feed called Passion Times which noted the woman in this clip was wearing an “I love Hong Kong” t-shirt. But the clip really took off on social media Monday after it was tweeted out by the Washington Examiner. The young woman, who appears to be American but claims to live in Hong Kong, lectured a small group of protesters about some signs and graffiti on concrete.

After suggesting protests were a waste of time she asked, “Is this okay? Is this respectful?”

“Why not?” one of the students replied.

“Why not? If my mother saw me [write] this…” she said. After some back and forth she came to her point, “Violence breeds violence, do you agree? Find me one case where violence led to a good solution?”

The clip is very noisy at this point and one of the students who is looking away from the camera says something about freedom.

“So the problem is, it’s not the bad demands, it’s you guys value freedom more than safety, do we agree?” she said. She added, “I think safety is more important than freedom. If you have a safe environment, you can communicate.”

She goes on to say that “old thinking” like China’s thinking even today, puts safety over freedom. At least she’s honest about her own agreement with mainland China.

The problem with this lecture, obviously, is that valuing freedom more than safety, while not the Chinese way, is something close to the American way. The protesters in Hong Kong recognize that which is why some of them have been waving American flags during the protests. The idea that it would be better to succumb to Chinese totalitarian communism for the sake of preserving a dialogue overlooks one critical point: It wouldn’t be a dialogue between equals. A master speaking to a servant is not a dialogue worth having.

Last month, CBS News interviewed an anonymous student protester in Hong Kong who said, “We will give all we can give because we want to see a free world in our city and in our home. Freedom is never free and that is why we need to take the risks for the greater good for all the Hong Kong citizens.” An American patriot couldn’t have said it better. What a shame that this dopey woman is arguing against human freedom to a group of people on the verge of losing theirs. Here’s the clip:

It’s an error of calculation.

What if I said, “I want everyone to really consider the damage being done to our cities by littering; I think I’ll paint that on my body and roller skate nekkid through the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade while blowing a bugle.”

Would I be reminding people not to trash the joint, or would I just be making them think I’m in great need of being fitted for a jacket with dysfunctional sleeves?

In reality, perhaps whenever thereafter a witness to my protest threw their sandwich wrapper on the ground, they’d recall, “Oh, yeah — remember that mentally ill bugler?”

But for some reason, there are hundreds if not thousands of people walking around in public who’d think my nude musical procession might save the planet.

And some of those revolutionaries were in Washington, D.C. Monday to rescue the world from climate change.

The way those giants of justice saved us all: They shut down at least 22 intersections during their fellow Americans’ morning commute.

Something tells me we may still be in peril.

But if you’re of a different mind, watch humanity be ripped from the clutches of imminent death:

Despite white privilege, even the black people got saved. And their blood pressure checked:

How to shut down a pipeline:

Good to see Greenpeace was on it. Those combatants against calamity similarly emancipated us from the shackles of a dismal fate by hanging from a bridge recently and costing the city of Houston millions of dollars:

I covered that profound act of rescue here:

Ahead of the city’s impending Democratic presidential primary, about a dozen activists suspended themselves from the Fred Hartman Bridge in order to fight the use of fossil fuels.

As a further means of really sockin’ it to modernity, the difference-making dingleberries held yellow and red flags.

In D.C., the knights of congestion also brandished red signs that read, “Capitalism is Killing the Planet.”

I have to wonder if anyone involved knew the actual meaning of “capitalism” — that would be, simply, a system based on a free-market economy in which an individual may own his or her own business.

Perhaps they were too busy preserving the universe to worry about things as meaningless as the definitions of words.

And just in case their work wasn’t enough to completely snatch us from the jaws of tragic incineration, they did the one thing we know is the show-stopping guarantee our world will be saved:

They chained themselves to a yellow boat in the middle of the street:

Thank God for heroes.

If you happen to be nearby and can still participate, please: Drop your drawers, pull out your bugle and blow it.

-ALEX

Anti-ICE protesters held a rally outside the home of detention center warden

Westlake Legal Group anti-ice-protest Anti-ICE protesters held a rally outside the home of detention center warden The Blog protest Aurora #AbolishICE

Abolish ICE Denver and a local communist group held a protest last Thursday night outside the home of the warden of a local detention facility. Three people were arrested and Aurora police and neighbors expressed disgust over the protesters’ behavior. From the Colorado Independent:

Hundreds of Abolish ICE Denver protesters flooded the quiet Aurora subdivision Thursday night where the local immigrant detention center warden lives.

They marched up to the home of the warden, Johnny Choate, chanting “Nazi fucks, get off our streets” and “power to the people.” Choate was not in his house Thursday night, according to a colleague…

Aurora Police said in a tweet about an hour after the protest that three men were arrested on suspicion of obstruction, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest and that they will be prosecuted

Neighbors lined the streets of the Tollgate Crossing subdivision to watch, and in some cases to shout back at the marchers. The neighborhood HOA prepared for this and encouraged residents to put “no trespassing” signs outside their homes.

The rally lasted about 90 minutes and after it was over the Aurora PD Chief of Police described it as “vile and disgusting.”

Here’s the kind of thing he’s referring to.

More:

But local residents expressed support for the police:

There have been protests outside the ICE facility for months but this protest was organized as an escalation of that effort. Here’s an interview with the organizer:

This is straight out of the far-left playbook. No one is name-checking Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez but she’s clearly an inspiration for these protesters.

Finally, here’s a local report on the protest which includes some reaction from neighbors who are, understandably, not happy at having a bunch of noisy communists marching in front of their homes:

Watch: Climate Protesters Try to Justify Their Use of Climate Harming Products

Westlake Legal Group Capture-4-620x366 Watch: Climate Protesters Try to Justify Their Use of Climate Harming Products strike protest Politics Front Page Stories Featured Story environmentalists environment cult Climate Allow Media Exception

The Climate Strike on Friday brought with it some interesting characters, as these types of gatherings often do. Climate protests often look more like a pagan celebration than an actual march for anything.

Case in point.

But even the devout lovers of “mother Gaia” are just as guilty as the rest of us when it comes to polluting the planet. That’s what the Daily Caller’s Stephanie Hamill set out to prove when she went down to the climate strike to talk to participants about their use of plastics, gas-guzzling cars, and paper for signs.

Their primary justification for all of their environment harming things? As you can see in the video below…

…they’re victims. Surprise, surprise.

Falling back on the old excuse for wrongdoing, the climate protesters that were confronted all pretty much ran to the same excuse of blaming society for their use of all these things, not themselves. Given, nobody told them to waste paper to make protest signs, nor were they ordered to hop into cars and planes that use fossil fuels to power themselves, but it doesn’t matter.

To them, wasting all of those resources in order to get down to this climate protest that will change absolutely no one’s mind is the fault of everyone else who has crafted this society that they currently live in.

The funny thing is, it’s a pretty safe bet to believe that even if these people were confronted with having to truly change their lifestyle in order to make the planet a “better” place as they believe it, they likely wouldn’t.

On Friday, Sky News’s Alan Jones read a letter to the students who had left their classrooms in order to participate in the climate strikes. The letter was brutal, but it wasn’t wrong. In it, the letter noted that today’s climate activist students demand air conditioning, own cars that choke the roads, and constantly carry own electronic devices that require charging.

They also consume more products than any other generation before them and even advocate for artificial population growth through mass immigration which requires even more use of resources that harm the land.

The letter suggests the climate activists cut back on their lifestyle in order to save the planet, but as Jones read, that will never happen.

I couldn’t agree more. These people don’t really care about the environment, they just want to be seen looking like they do to absolve themselves of the guilt they’re told they have.

The climate change protesters who have been up in arms around the world all weekend are still in town. Their stated plan (along with the name of the group organizing this fiasco) is “Shut Down D.C.” And that’s what they hope to do. (WaPo)

A broad coalition of climate activists called “Shut Down D.C.” plans to block streets throughout the nation’s capital during the Monday morning commute to draw attention to climate change.

The protest is timed to coincide with the United Nations Climate Action Summit in New York, at which climate activists and leaders, including 16-year-old Greta Thunberg, are slated to speak. It follows a strike across six continents Friday and a youth conference at the United Nations on Saturday.

The traffic shutdown is meant to send a particular message to D.C.’s powerful political elite, according to Liz Butler, an organizer for Shut Down D.C. and vice president of organizing and strategic allegiances for Friends of the Earth.

There’s already a picture circulating of some kid carrying a sign in the middle of the street that reads, “Sorry for the inconvenience. We are trying to save the world.” Do I really need to point out yet again what a monumentally bad strategy this is?

Yes, we’ve been through this before. It plays out the same way whether we’re talking about Black Lives Matter, gun confiscation enthusiasts or any of the other so-called “social justice” groups. And now we have the climate alarmists doing it.

The whole idea of holding a protest, march, etc. is to get your message out, draw attention from members of the public who might not be aware of the issue and hopefully win over more support. Short of drowning people’s kittens and puppies in front of them, I can’t think of many other worse ways to win over hearts and minds than to strand someone in their car in a totally unnecessary traffic jam while advertising the cause you are supporting. Commuting around D.C. (as well as most other major cities) is already a nightmare. It only takes one distracted jerk or unfortunate accident to bring the Beltway grinding to a halt.

People seriously dread this. (One of the main reasons I am extremely grateful to be among those who work from home.) An accidental traffic jam is bad enough. But when commuters see your sign and realize you did this intentionally, the only emotion you will instill in them is hatred. Specifically, hatred of you. Even someone who might have been sympathetic toward the cause of combatting climate change is going to come away from this remembering you and your cause with a seething fury.

March on the side of the roads. Hang banners on the overpasses. Get a permit and gather in the park to get your message out. But “shutting down” the District during a Monday rush hour will produce precisely the opposite of the desired effect. Stop being stupid.
