Beto O’Rourke to deliver “major address to the nation” resetting campaign as a fight against Trump, guns, white supremacy, you name it

Westlake Legal Group bo-1 Beto O’Rourke to deliver “major address to the nation” resetting campaign as a fight against Trump, guns, white supremacy, you name it white supremacy The Blog reset racism major speech immigration Guns El Paso democrat Beto O'Rourke 2020

It would take a heart of stone not to laugh at a guy polling at one percent presuming to deliver a “major address to the nation.” Try a major address to your living room first, buddy, see how it plays. Work your way up to high-school auditoriums.

This will be his third (re)launch since he entered the race less than six months ago, notes David Rutz. There was the initial announcement with the splashy “Vanity Fair” cover this past spring. There was the humbled reset in May, when he started doing more TV after his man-of-the-people townhall tour in middle America didn’t catch fire. Now there’s Beto 3.0, the moral crusader, aflame with righteous outrage after the El Paso massacre. This (re)launch at least features something that the previous two lacked — a purpose for his otherwise aimless campaign.

O’Rourke will recommit to holding President Trump accountable for the state of the country — and focus on the stakes of removing a president from office whom he has explicitly linked to the deaths of fellow El Pasoans, according to a senior campaign official.

He’ll focus heavily on three key issues: racism, white supremacy and guns — and plans to propose what the campaign calls “new, bold solutions.”…

Back in El Paso since last Saturday’s shooting, the speech will mark O’Rourke’s return to the presidential campaign trail — but don’t expect him to race immediately back to early states, the campaign official said. O’Rourke will lay out a plan to take him to more places typically written off by presidential candidates, and less to “traditional” events — “reflecting the gravity of the situation we’re in, even if that means doing things differently,” the official said.

Not sure what that means but I wonder if he’s planning to campaign at the sites of recent mass shootings — not just El Paso and Dayton but Vegas, Pittsburgh, and so on. That’d be a clever gimmick inasmuch as the media and Democratic voters believe this is their moment to finally push across some new gun control regulations in Congress. They’ll be inclined to trumpet O’Rourke’s events if only to highlight the underlying cause, and of course Beto will be credited for his “selfless” approach and seriousness of purpose in focusing on a moral cause instead of gladhanding Iowans while eating corn dogs at the state fair or whatever. It’s not a bad idea for a longshot candidate. He’s going to get lost in the crowd of Biden, Warren, Sanders, and Harris if he hunkers down in the early states. He might as well go do his own thing and hope the media falls in love with him again, this time as the “conscience of his party.” The fight against the forces of darkness can only be won by [checks notes] nominating Beto O’Rourke for president.

I’m guessing his speech will sound a lot like this op-ed he published yesterday on CNN’s website. Title: “It’s America’s moment of truth.”

When President Donald Trump describes Mexican immigrants as “rapists” and “bringing crime,” or refers to undocumented immigrants as individuals who “infest our country” — he speaks not as America’s President but as an emissary of hate. And his vilification and fear-mongering connect with those who are open to receiving it.

The seeds of terror we saw that August day are transmitted day and night on Fox News, the most watched cable news channel in the country. They are amplified by right-wing websites like Breitbart, and in messages forced onto local news broadcasts by Sinclair Media…

Every media outlet that covers Trump’s rallies uncritically is serving dangerous ends. This language of fear and intimidation is not, as some would have it, simply political theater; it actually changes our behavior. Counties that hosted a Trump rally in 2016 saw a 226% increase in hate crimes, according to an analysis by The Washington Post. And we’ve seen a rise in these kinds of crimes since Trump’s been a candidate and in office.

I keep thinking that this is all building to Beto using the shooting as a pretext to bail out of the presidential race and run for Senate in Texas instead, as the entire party wants him to do (“El Paso needs me!”), but no, not so says Politico. “The El Paso massacre only redoubled his resolve to campaign against Trump, according to sources close to his campaign,” they claim, noting that Beto has already qualified for the September debate whereas various other no-hopers have not. It’ll be a smaller stage and so he has a better chance of standing out. His plan between now and then, it appears, is to try to build as much buzz as he can as a Man On A Mission on the trail and then convert that into some impassioned moment at the debates that vaults him into the top tier, or at least past Buttigieg. That’s one thing O’Rourke has that Mayor Pete doesn’t, actually — passion. Buttigieg is almost preternaturally calm and methodical, which isn’t an asset for a pol when his base’s blood is up about something. O’Rourke can feed that better than he can. He already has over the past few weeks, in fact.

And if it doesn’t work out for him, hey. He’s 46. Here was my theory on Beto’s strategy from this past weekend, when he went on CNN and all but accused Trump supporters of being racist:

Maybe he’s playing a long game. He knows he won’t be the nominee and he also knows he’s unlikely to win a Senate race against John Cornyn (and that his political career would likely be over after two consecutive Senate losses). So he’s going to use his platform this year to be the “right side of history” voice in the field who savages Trump and Trump’s fans on moral grounds, hoping to make an impression in lefty minds about his moral clarity. Then, five or 10 years from now, when the demographics are more favorable to him in Texas and nationally, he’ll run again. Remember when I was the conscience of our party in speaking out against Trump? he’ll say to Democrats. They’ll remember.

Has the Beto 2024 campaign already begun? If so, what’s he going to do with himself between now and then?

Marble Halls & Silver Screens: The Cultural Appropriation Edition

Westlake Legal Group combined-logo-620x333 Marble Halls & Silver Screens: The Cultural Appropriation Edition racism Podcast Hong Kong Front Page Stories Featured Story epstein Entertainment Dolemite

In preparing for this column, my friend/producer from FCB Radio Network and I had an interesting chat about racism because I discuss it frequently in this episode, what with Cuomo’s “Fredo” flap and Sarah Silverman being sacked from a film for blackface antics a decade ago.

My friend/producer is an African-American man from the Midwest, I’m a white woman from the Deep South. He made his case that, although things are better, they’re by no means good; I tried to make the case that tossing racism around as a catch-all accusation over mere disagreement waters down real racism that still very much exists.

We disagreed on some things and found common ground on others. Like grown folks. It was a good talk, and one I wish had made it onto the podcast itself. Hopefully in the future we can make that happen.

As for the episode at hand, however (which marks episode 1 of the fresh new start the show is taking (Brad is off to discover his own brilliance in other realms and we wish him well)), the topics range from the aforementioned Chris Cuomo situation (which, by the way, I thought the guy who filmed him was a complete twerp and had little problem with Cuomo saying he was gonna toss the guy down the stairs), to the pro-Democracy protests in Hong Kong (and the lesser discussed ones happening in Moscow).

The latter is fascinating when viewed through the lens of the “children of socialism” the U.S. is plagued with in groups like Antifa, and are literally battling over free speech on college campuses. While Hong Kong protestors sing the U.S. anthem and wave Old Glory, the youth in the U.S. believe China is the stronger nation and that communism is the only pathway toward equality. Strange days we’re living in.

I also cover the tragedy of the Epstein suicide — not for the loss of Epstein himself, but for his victims — and the intent by AG Bill Barr to continue the investigation and bring justice to those the man harmed over the course of decades. I generally avoid the conspiracy theories, so if you’re seeking those, you won’t find them here. But you’ll still be challenged to think about why in God’s name Epstein was left alone long enough to leave this Earth.

I also talk briefly about whether Trump actually did undermine his alleged desire for red flag legislation (I can’t decide  — maybe y’all are more confident in what you think is going on…).

Oh, and Dolemite and the return of Eddie Murphy. And if you don’t know what I’m talking about, please do listen because while Dolemite films are certainly worth an R-rating, they’re also absolutely hilarious. And Murphy is likely to bring Rudy Rae Moore, the artist behind the films, to life in the way only Eddie can.

Tim Scott Blasts Democrats for Constant & Ridiculous Claims of Trump’s Racism – It’s the ‘Lowest Common Denominator’

Westlake Legal Group racism-2099029_1280-620x310 Tim Scott Blasts Democrats for Constant & Ridiculous Claims of Trump’s Racism – It’s the ‘Lowest Common Denominator’ Uncategorized Tim Scott The Ingraham Angle south carolina racism Race laura ingraham Front Page Stories Featured Story elections donald trump democrats Allow Media Exception

Sen. Tim Scott doesn’t have time for the ridiculousness of racist obsession.

The South Carolina Republican’s made mince meat of the silliness before, which I covered in “Black Congressman Smacks Down Race-Baiting Nitwittery.”

Get ready for another smackdown.

And this time, it’s over the absolutely relentless castigation of Donald J. Trump.

Tim defended the President Monday on Fox News program The Ingraham Angle. He told host Laura the nonsense stinks:

“What you do smell — not hear, but smell — is fear. What you smell is fear on the Left.”

He’s right about the constant, constant, constant…did I say constant? If not, the constant claims of racism. Sometimes it seems that’s all there is. About Trump. About Republicans. About conservatives. About everything. It’s neverending, and neverendingly bizarre:

“They have been consistently using the race card. Every single time there’s a presidential run, you’ll hear John McCain — racist. Mitt Romney — racist. Ronald Reagan — racist. George Bush — racist. [George] W. [Bush] — racist.”

In my opinion, when it’s all they appear to know to say, the claims cease to have any meaning. It just becomes noise. It becomes the sound of a side without any ideas.

Tim colored it the lowest of the low:

“Why do they continue to find that narrative? Because they understand that the lowest common denominator in politics is fear and division.”

The 2nd-term congressman also served up this:

“Well, there’s no doubt that President Trump is not a racist, and the facts are very simple: that the same folks that voted for me [also] voted for President Trump because President Trump made promises to the voters, and he’s keeping the promises. So without any question, if you look at his legacy, it will be his accomplishments in office == frankly, helping in many, many ways African Americans. … President Trump has been able to deliver policies that have promoted, encouraged, and inspired growth in the African American community, economically in a way that no president has done in the last 40 years. This president is not a racist.”

You know that “ideas” thing I said? Tim seems to be of a like mind:

“Look, if you were running on the Left, would you run on the Green New Deal? Would you run on the 70% new income tax? Would you run on a 4% wealth tax? Would you run on a financial transaction tax? No. What else would you run on? Well, you’d run on some tired narrative that the President, because he’s a Republican, has to be somehow a racist.”

The senator also gave me an Amen here:

“It is inconsistent with reality. It’s a different dimension that I don’t understand, and frankly, the more you use the concept of racism, the more we grow “ism” fatigue in this country. And that is a terrible place for us to be. The greatest threat by overusing racism is that when there is an actual challenge, you’ve cried wolf in the wilderness one time too many.”

Tim Scott is right on the money. When will so many Democrats determine that talk of positive solutions more effectively compel voters than do cries of negative problems?

And when they never stop harping on the same problem, after a time, incidentally, it tends to suggest they don’t have a solution.

Bonus challenge: The problem doesn’t exist — not in the way they perpetually charge.

#Goofy

The Dems could learn a thing or two from Tim Scott.

Pining for the Pinnacle of Stupid: Students Petition to Change White Pedestrian Crossing Lights to a Shade Closer to People of Color

We’ve all been there: You’re about to cross the street, when suddenly you spot a sign with a stick figure, and you’re paralyzed by oppression. And it’s basically the same as the worst things that have ever happened to anyone in history, because you wisely and thoughtfully understand the high stakes and scope of potential human suffering.

And if there’s any justice in this world, you’ll one day be delivered from the horror that is straight lines drawn in a configuration that triggers you. Comprised of an absolutely soul-crushing hue.

Or you could just cross the street and go on with your life.

According to Campus Reform, a group of students at George Washington University erred somewhere between those two ideas, in the name of that most superior of all things on the planet — inclusivity.

New Woke Rules, so far as I can tell:

Most virtuous thing: inclusivity
Most unacceptable thing: anything “problematic”
Most inclusive thing: anything exclusively left-wing
Most racist thing: all things that can be said to be things

In a recent CR video, Campus Correspondent Ethan Cai polled GWU peeps: Would they be willing to sign a petition demanding a ban on the ubiquitous — say it ain’t so — white stick figure that signals “Walk” on pedestrian crossing signs, on account of its dastardly oppression?

Most in the clip gave a joyful Affirmative.

The college was chosen because of another mercilessly soul-crushing, problematic issue that the student body just voted to squash: its now-defunct mascot, George the Colonial.

As per the petition to junk George, his presence was “received as extremely offensive not only by students of the University, but the nation and world at large.”

Wow — these youngsters know about the whole world. Touché.

Indeed, Jerky George “[glorified] the act of systemic oppression.”

Here’s how CR’s goofy, phony-baloney petition read:

“As we students cross the street, we are told by the symbol of a white man when it is okay to cross. Many students from diverse backgrounds, including individuals of color, gender fluid individuals, and LGBTQA+ individuals, feel oppressed by this. … [We] vehemently urge the University to consider changing the crosswalk signs.”

Check out the results:

It’s almost as if you can hear the air leaking from their brains as they speak.

I wonder if any of the Woke Warriors — in an effort to banish the white light — have considered that light itself is white? In fact, in the video, they’re also standing in — yea, they are absolutely bathing inwhite light. The light of the sun. They’re drenched in it. In the horrible, inherently and unbearably evil color of white.

No word yet on how they’ll be able to see the stick figure if it’s changed to black — the absence of all light. Will people being hit by cars be less “problematic”?

Either way, as I understand the rules to go, the black stick figure will be inclusive. Even though no human beings are actually black. Or — it should be noted in the consideration of how idiotic this entire thing is — white.

In the future, we’re all in big trouble.

Fun Fact: Chris Cuomo Referred to Himself as “Fredo” During an Interview

Westlake Legal Group chris-cuomo-headshot-620x317 Fun Fact: Chris Cuomo Referred to Himself as “Fredo” During an Interview Radio Show racism Politics Media Front Page Stories Fredo Featured Story democrats CNN Chris Cuomo Allow Media Exception 2010

FILE – In this May 16, 2018 file photo, Chris Cuomo attends the Turner Networks 2018 Upfront in New York. Cuomo will start his own two-hour radio show next Monday at noon on SiriusXM. The company said Wednesday that Cuomo’s weekday show will air on its nonpartisan P.O.T.U.S. channel. (Photo by Evan Agostini/Invision/AP, File)

Just to show you that the outrage over calling CNN host Chris Cuomo “Fredo” is all “faux and show,” allow me to present to you Fredo himself calling himself Fredo.

According to the New York Post, it happened when Cuomo was appearing with Curtis Sliwa on his AM 970 radio show in January 2010. The two were discussing his brother, Andrew Cuomo, and his possible run for Governor of New York:

“There is a group of people — politicos — who always hint they might run, but not necessarily plunge all the way, and they are members of la Cuomo.”

“Who am I, then, Fredo?” Cuomo asked in response.

“Yes, exactly,” Sliwa said. “So you better be careful that your brother Andrew doesn’t kiss you on both cheeks and then all of a sudden they take you out on the middle of the lake and where’s Chris?”

“He kisses me plenty because he’s a great big brother,” Cuomo said.

So Fredo labels himself Fredo, but gets upset and threatens to throw people down staircases when called that by other people, even going so far as to claim that “Fredo” is like saying the “n-word” to a black person.

This is like Cuomo trying to tell people they can’t call Italian people “Fredo” because it’s “their word.” Of course, it’s not a racial slur, it’s more of an attack on someone’s character, as Fredo was the weak brother from the Godfather movies who eventually betrays the family.

As I wrote in a previous article, Cuomo seems to have zero problems with the word “Fredo” if it’s being used as a way to describe people on the right. This includes the word being thrown around on his own show when used to describe Donald Trump Jr.

Again, all “faux and show” in order to promote the idea that the right is racist. However, if it is a racist term, then the left has a lot of explaining to do, including Fredo Cuomo.

“Fredo” Is a Racist Term Unless the Left Uses It, Including Chris Cuomo’s Guests, Then It’s Fine

“It’s okay when we do it” is the unofficial motto of the left. I’ve said it once before, but it bears repeating now.

In the wake of CNN’s Chris Cuomo flipping out over someone labeling him as “Fredo,” the left rushed to his defense by referring to the name as “racist against Italians.”

To be clear, “Fredo” is not a racist term, and is an attack on someone’s weak character. Still, Cuomo and the left can’t hear something unpleasant to their ears without firing off the term “racist” like they’re the seagulls in Finding Nemo.

Interestingly, the left likes to use the term Fredo itself before this. Here are a few examples, including a CNN host using it.

Here’s George Takei calling Donald Trump Jr. “Fredo.”

Here’s Vanity Fair using it to describe the Trump administration.

And for the pièce de résistance, here’s CNN contributor Anna Navarro calling Trump Jr. “Fredo”…on Chris Cuomo’s show!

Apparently, using the term is only offensive if it’s used against someone on the left who takes it way too defensively and adopts a tough-guy Italian-American accent as a defense.

Use it to describe a Trump family member or his administration and it’s no longer a slur, it’s somehow and accurate descriptor. If you’re wondering why people can no longer take the left’s claims of “racism” seriously anymore, this is why.

As I wrote earlier, the left has no real defense for themselves as confronting public figures during their off-hours is something they themselves have encouraged. This includes Cuomo, who sat back and defended Antifa after they attempted to raid the home of Fox News host Tucker Carlson, forcing his family to hide in the pantry. His network also doxxed an old lady for simply standing up for the Covington Catholic kids over a smirk.

This outrage from the left is purely for show. They don’t really think “Fredo” is a racial slur, they just want the public to believe it is in order to foster the “right is racist” narrative.

FBI Arrests Alleged Would-Be Neo-Nazi Terrorist Before He Can Commit Mass Murder at a Las Vegas Synagogue

The U.S. Attorney’s Office released a statement Friday revealing details of a Las Vegas security guard’s arrest.

The 23-year-old’s been “charged by a criminal complaint with one count of possession of an unregistered firearm – namely, the component parts of a destructive device.”

That’d be…like one of these:

As per the 11-page criminal complaint lodged against him, the man was allegedly engaged in encrypted communication with those identifying with the National Socialist Movement in order to attack a synagogue in the desert town. Additionally, he may have been surveilling an LGBTQ-friendly bar for nefarious reasons.

What’s the NSM all about? According to the District of Nevada Attorney’s Office, it’s this:

Members believe in the superiority of the white race and have a common goal of challenging the established laws, social order, and government via terrorism and other violent acts.

Tampa Bay’s ABC Action News reports that the Las Vegas Joint Terrorism Task Force began investigating the man in April, after it was learned he was messaging with neo-Nazi organization Atomwaffen Division.

The guy’s got uncanny taste in friends.

During a search, officials discovered “a notebook with several hand-drawn schematics for a potential Las Vegas-area attack.” Also drawn: “timed explosive devises.”

Yeah — this guy could use an intervention.

It just keeps getting worse — in his bedroom, law enforcement found bomb parts and explosive-friendly chemicals. Bonus: an “AR-15-style rifle and a bolt-action rifle.”

Definitely intervention material.

The guns were impounded.

Here’s what FBI Las Vegas Division Special Agent in Charge Aaron Rouse had to say about all this:

“The FBI’s Las Vegas Joint Terrorism Task Force is committed to protecting our community from any threat of domestic terrorism and I could not be more proud of the work they did in this case. … As this complaint illustrates, the FBI will always be proactive to combat threats that cross a line from free speech to potential violence.”

Assuming the charges are accurate, thank God agencies intercepted the man and his efforts. We could’ve been soon reading about the death and destruction he caused. Instead, we’re finding out he faces up to a decade in prison.

Law enforcement took care of business.

Surely right now, there are other would-be terrorists. As George W. Bush directed after 9/11, we must stay vigilant. Observe and report. For most every evil deed, I believe, there were signs not taken seriously enough to prevent it.

But the citizens of Las Vegas can sleep a little bit more soundly tonight, knowing an armed and dangerous aspiring assassin is behind bars.

Now are you ready to see the guy? He already made the headlines, back in 2016. Ladies and Gentlemen, meet Conor Climo, your trusty neighborhood watchman:

Has the country gone insane? Judging by social media entries, concerning a portion, it’s not too difficult to imagine the answer being Yes.

As the election neared in 2016, absurd statements by those fighting to preserve Democratic power increasingly polluted the airwaves. The dumbest, most extreme claims were flung, like a the contents of a dirty diaper steadied by a stretched-to-capacity slingshot.

SPLAT!

It was everywhere.

The result, in part, was alarmists on Facebook and elsewhere hammering the bell:

“If Donald Trump is elected, black people will be hanging from trees on the White House lawn!”

That was an actual post.

People were told Trump was essentially a reproductive miracle: Somehow, Hitler and Lucifer had engaged in sexual congress. And in 1946, out of one of their vaginas, out hatched a bouncing baby boy.

What many, many millennials didn’t know, however, was that — despite the media’s claims — Donald Trump wasn’t a reality TV star who’d run for President; he was America’s most famed and embraced billionaire, whose notoriety as a successful mogul had resulted in NBC asking him to appear on its show. Despite allegations, he wasn’t a failed businessman (people have actually said this); he’d taken a small fortune and created a worldwide empire. Despite charges of him being the Angel of Death, he’d been — for years — loved by Hollywood and Democrats and praised in rap songs.

Despite reality, however, the lobbed missive to morons was clear: Terror is upon us.

The same had happened, though to a much lesser degree, with George W. Bush. So far as I can tell, that’s when the plummet of not only ignorance, but breathtaking immaturity began.

During that era, to many of those evidently spoiled by the time in which they lived, the high stakes of life were completely lost. Seemingly gone was any concept of actual evil, suffering, or persecution.

Hatchbacks donned bumper stickers with Bush wearing horns. T-shirts portrayed W. as Hitler.

And for clueless Saviors of the Cities, reason was not an option.

“George Bush is Adolf!”

“George W. Bush is nothing like Adolf Hitler. You’re not understanding what Hitler did. Hitler murdered people.”

“George Bush murders people!”

“No, dummy. You’re saying that because he supports military action in the Middle East, and in battle, people are killed. But I mean Hitler literally ordered the deaths of people.”

“George Bush orders the deaths of people!”

“No, dummy. You’re saying he endorses policies you’ve heard negatively affect the poor, which you believe results in casualties down the line. But I’m saying that Hitler quite literally gave the order for specific groups of people to be murdered en masse.”

“George Bush gives the order for specific groups to be murdered en masse!”

“No, dummy. You’re saying he has political leanings that — as you understand it — disadvantage the lower class, which is comprised by a considerable percentage of racial minorities. But I’m saying that Hitler, in the most direct manner possible, spoke to his henchmen and gave the Go-Ahead for people to be rounded up and slaughtered.”

“George Bush speaks to his henchmen and gives the Go-Ahead for people to be rounded up and slaughtered!”

“No, dummy. You’re talking about your views on his Cabinet and prison reform. But Hitler chose to literally have millions of people killed simply because of their genetic background.”

“George Bush chooses to literally have millions of people killed simply because–”

“Ooooookay. Uncle uncle uncle!”

They couldn’t grasp the higher stakes. The forcefield of fierce immaturity is a mighty foe indeed.

And the same is true today.

There currently exists a group of people who are living out, in their imaginations, the worst the world has to offer.

Some in the media are dishing out idiotic ideas, and the craziest among us are swallowing them like so many flies.

RIBBIT!

Consider a post making the rounds on social media as of late:

10 Stages of Genocide

1. Classification: People are divided into “us and them.”
2. Symbolization: People are forced to identify themselves.
3. Discrimination: People begin to face systematic discrimination.
4. Dehumanization: People equated with animals, vermin, or diseases.
5. Organization: The government creates special groups (police/military) to enforce the policies.
6. Polarization: The government broadcasts propaganda to turn the populace against the group.
7. Preparation: Official action to remove/relocate people begins.
8. Persecution: Beginning of murders, theft of property, trial massacres.
9. Extermination: Wholesale elimination of the group. It is “extermination” and not murder because the people are not considered human.
10. Denial: The government denies that it has committed any crime.

Incredibly, the meme draws an arrow between Preparation and Persecution with the note “You are here.”

Literally none of those things have happened. But the far Left have tried to convince people otherwise. In fact, with regard to some of their most incendiary claims, the federal actions at issue were engaged by Obama. In some cases, they were begun under Barack.

But goobers gotta goob.

Apparently, the sharers of such hysteria aren’t familiar with the real History of the United States. Witness:

What’s more, not only has nothing on the list occurred, but it can’t — because America doesn’t have a “Government” — not in the way the meme references.

We have a system of checks and balances provided by three separate branches, comprised by people who all disagree with one another. And the Executive Branch has a 2-term lmit.

The whole idea of the meme is an ode to psychosis. Yet, here we are.

We’re livin’ in the Age of the Slingshot.

Or slingsh*t.

SPLAT!!!!

President Trump Lashes Out at Hollywood Over Universal’s Violent MAGA-Killer, ‘The Hunt’: It’s Tinseltown That’s Racist

Have you heard of Universal’s upcoming film The Hunt?

Here’s how Fox News sums it up:

The Hunt, which initially was going to be titled Red State vs. Blue State, is billed as a satire that follows wealthy thrill-seekers as they take a private jet to a five-star resort, where they embark on a “deeply rewarding” expedition that involves hunting down and killing “deplorables,” per The Hollywood Reporter.

THR offers a few lines from the screenplay:

“Did anyone see what our ratf***er-in-chief just did?” one character asks early in the screenplay for The Hunt, a Universal Pictures thriller set to open Sept. 27. Another responds: “At least The Hunt’s coming up. Nothing better than going out to the Manor and slaughtering a dozen deplorables.”

Here’s a bit more about the flick:

The Hunt stars Betty Gilpin from GLOW and Hilary Swank, representing opposite sides of the political divide. It features guns blazing along with other ultra-violent killings as the elites pick off their prey. The script from (Lost co-creator and showrunner) Damon Lindelof and Nick Cuse reviewed by The Hollywood Reporter revolves around third-rail political themes.

Ready to buy your advance tickets?

As much as they’re presumably excited about the new release, Universal’s had some second thoughts since last weekend’s deadly mass shootings (here, here, here, here, and here):

In the wake of a trio of deadly massacres, the studio is evaluating its strategy for the R-rated Blumhouse satire in which elites stalk “deplorables.”

A bit of the negative Twitter response:

On Friday, the rat– I mean, President Trump — chimed in on the controversy, following several ads for the coastal-elites-hunting-MAGA-supporters-like-wild-animals extravaganza being pulled. His message? Hollywood is the racist blight:

“Liberal Hollywood is Racist at the highest level, and with great Anger and Hate! They like to call themselves ‘Elite,’ but they are not Elite. In fact, it is often the people that they so strongly oppose that are actually the Elite. The movie coming out is made in order to inflame and cause chaos. They create their own violence, and then try to blame others. They are the true Racists, and are very bad for our Country!”

Strong words. And yet, not nearly as harsh as those heaped upon the President routinely by those in left-wing power.

But is all the conservative backlash rightful? Watch the trailer and tell me: Who appear to be the villains?

I love movies; they’re one of my favorite things. But it’s not hard to imagine that a story of Republicans and Democrats killing each other may not make a positive contribution to the current climate. It’s not incumbent upon celluloid to save the world, but was this project a good idea? What will the impact be?

I want to hear from you. Let us all know your thoughts.

Joe Biden’s Hypocrisy About His Own Troubling History Of White Supremacy Resurfaces

Apparently, white supremacy is the major problem facing America today. If you support President Trump, even if your support is so tepid that you plan on wearing a paper bag over your head and holding your nose when you vote in November, you, my friend, are a white supremacist. If you want to enforce our immigration laws? White supremacist. Do you think there are a lot of social pathologies in our inner cities? You just outed yourself as a white supremacist. This has become standard fare on the campaign trail this year

Hold that thought, Mr. Biden.

White supremacy is not limited to Trump and his supporters.

Earlier today, my colleague, Joe Cunningham, posted on Joe Biden’s observation that poor kids are just as smart a white kids.

This gaffe, as Joe notes, was rocketed out by the Trump immediate response folks (I have to say, I’m really impressed by what they’re doing).

Now, the same folks are reminding us that Joe Biden has a history of problematic statements on race…I might even say they could lead one to think he was an actual white supremacist. This is from Biden on the stump in Iowa in 2007.

BIDEN: Again, you have to start off with what they start off with. There’s less than one percent of the population of Iowa that is African American. There is probably less than four of five percent that are minorities. What is in Washington?

SUPER HELPFUL WHITE SUPREMACIST IN AUDIENCE: I think it’s a vast majority.

BIDEN: Yeah. [Biden actually snickers] So look, it goes back to what you start off with, what you’re dealing with,” Biden told the Washington Post at the time.

According to FoxNews, he continued:

“When you have children coming from dysfunctional homes, when you have children coming from homes where there’s no books, where the mother from the time they’re born doesn’t talk to them — as opposed to the mother in Iowa who’s sitting out there and talks to them, the kid starts out with a 300 word larger vocabulary at age three. Half this education gap exists before the kid steps foot in the classroom.”

So black families and minority families are dysfunctional, the mother doesn’t talk to her kids, and there are no books…and white families are just the opposite.

I understand the point Biden is trying to make here and the point he was trying to make in Joe’s post. But the connecting facts have nothing to do with race and everything to do with socio-economic class. I can tell you from my experience in Eastern Kentucky, that the only thing that makes large swaths of that area different from West Baltimore is melanin, population density, and preferred choice of illegal drug.

But we are beyond the point of giving the benefit of the doubt, particularly to people who refuse to show the same grace towards us and who shamelessly paint an entire political party, one that is at least as committed to racial equality as the Democrats, as white supremacists.

The real white supremacy is equating poor with non-white. The real white supremacy is believing that white families are uniquely well ordered while non-white families are universally dysfunctional. Sad to say, in terms of white supremacy, Joe Biden is showing all the signs of holding deep beliefs that non-whites are inherently inferior and he is addled enough to voice those views. He’s the last person who should be making that accusation at any other person.
