Florida woman’s brutal cold-case murder heats up, cops make arrest

A Tennessee man was arrested Wednesday in connection with the brutal 1986 murder of 38-year-old Eveline Aguilar, officials said.

Danny Lynn Emitt, 50, is accused of murdering Aguilar on July 14, 1986. Her body was found in a Winter Park, Florida, apartment with multiple stab wounds on her upper body and hands, police said. Officials also concluded she may have been sexually assaulted.

A warrant was issued for Emitt’s arrest after samples from the 33-year-old murder case were entered into a national database and Emitt was revealed to be a match, according to Knox News. Emitt was in the database because he had submitted DNA for an unrelated case in 2005, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

“There is no perfect ending, but this is as good as we can get – holding the person that’s responsible accountable for their actions,” Seminole County Sheriff Dennis Lemma said at a news conference Thursday, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Lemma said at least 50 people had been interviewed in the case before Emitt’s arrest.

NFL star’s distant family members accuse player of making threats as man faces extortion charges

The family of a man accused of trying to extort NFL star Tyrann Mathieu of millions of dollars said Wednesday they had been threatened by the Kansas City Chiefs’ defensive back.

George Sears, the brother of Geourvon Sears — who is accused of telling Mathieu he would go to the media and accuse the veteran of sexual misconduct if Mathieu didn’t pay him large sums of money — said in court that Mathieu put a hit out on his brother and sent threatening messages to their family, WDSU-TV reported.

DISTANT RELATIVE OF NFL VETERAN TYRANN MATHIEU ACCUSED OF TRYING TO EXTORT MILLIONS FROM PLAYER: OFFICIALS

The family said the extortion plot came after Mathieu made threats against them. George’s and Geourvon’s mother testified Mathieu made threats against her and her sons over social media, according to WDSU-TV.

Mathieu’s agent, Denise White, released a statement from the player’s attorney, Scott Rosenblum, after the hearing.

“Mr. Mathieu contacted me at the direction of his rep, Denise White, to advise and assist him as he was being victimized by malevolent family members. Once Mr. Mathieu decided to stop assisting these individuals financially, they turned to harassment slander and extortion in their quest to gain financially.

Rosenblum continued: “Their slanderous comments are wholly without merit and were designed to be outrageous enough to secure their outrageous demand of $25,000,000 dollars. Mr. Mathieu is a victim of an unscrupulous shake down. He is a victim of a crime which he reported to authorities and authorities took immediate action. He simply refused to compromise his integrity and cow tow to this criminal conduct.”

During the hearing, Geourvon Sears’ bond was revoked. Sears admitted to smoking marijuana every day since he was about 10 years old and acknowledged he was tampering with his ankle monitor. WDSU-TV reported.

It’s unclear how the Sears family is related to Mathieu. Geourvon has only been described as a distant relative.

Mathieu is from New Orleans and played college football at LSU where he earned the nickname “Honey Badger” for his toughness on the field. He signed a three-year, $42 million deal with the Chiefs in the offseason. He previously played for the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans.

Fab Five could reunite thanks to Michigan’s hiring of Juwan Howard, Jalen Rose says

Michigan hiring Juwan Howard to be its next men’s basketball coach could end the feud between members of the iconic Fab Five team, Jalen Rose said Thursday.

Rose, who was a member of the Fab Five squad along with Howard, Chris Webber, Jimmy King and Ray Jackson, told ESPN’s “Get Up” it would end any dispute among the players.

MICHIGAN HIRES JUWAN HOWARD AS BASKETBALL COACH

“It squashes any drama or any beef because we’re not going to bring that to Ann Arbor’s campus with Juwan Howard as our head coach,” Rose said. “The one thing that we both know is his success turning around the University of Michigan is first and foremost about him and about the players that he’s going to influence. Then it’s about us being there to support him, not being drama, not being splintered, not giving any indication of dysfunction.”

Rose said Howard’s hiring would bring the Fab Five members back together.

“There will not be any disrespect to the program, there will not be any sideshows, there will not be any friction among the Fab Five. We’re about to all come together like Voltron and make sure we do what we gotta do to put us back on top of the map,” he said.

Webber also threw his support toward Howard during the NBA on TNT’s broadcast of the playoff game between the Milwaukee Bucks and Toronto Raptors last week, according to the Detroit Free Press.

“It would be great for the whole university, bring everyone back together,” Webber said.

The Fab Five team was considered one of the best recruiting classes in college basketball history. The team appeared in two men’s basketball national championship games, but lost in both.

The relationship among the players fractured due to Webber’s relationship with a former booster. The NCAA vacated all of the school’s wins from the 1991-92 and the 1992-93 seasons. Webber also chose not to be a part of the ESPN documentary on the Fab Five, which aired in 2011.

Los Angeles Dodgers’ Rich Hill launches into profane tirade after bunt single during shift

Los Angeles Dodgers lefthander Rich Hill went into an expletive-laced tirade Wednesday night after the team allowed a bunt single down the third base side because the area was vacated for the shift.

Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Ji-Man Choi laid down the bunt while three Dodgers infielders, expecting that the lefthanded Choi would pull the ball, were playing to the right side in the first inning. But Choi bunted the other way and the ball never got near a fielder as Choi picked up an easy single. The play led to the profane outburst from Hill.

Hill appeared to drop four f-bombs in the tirade, including two as he defined correctly — but profanely — what happens when teams shift on lefthanded pull hitters: the “whole f—— left side is f—— is fully wide open” as he was walking off the mound.

Hill was asked after the game whether he saw a problem with Choi bunting or the infield being opened on the left side.

“In my opinion, I never enjoy seeing an entire part of an infield left open,” he told reporters, according to the Tampa Bay Times. “I think hitters are getting better at understanding how to beat the shift. No matter if you’re a power hitter or whatever you want to categorize your hitters in the top part, middle part or the end part of the lineup, guys are getting more savvy and understanding how to beat the shift. We have to make adjustments to that. I think we will moving forward.”

He added: “It’s one of those things, damned if you do, damned if you don’t.’ I love it when it works and hate it when it doesn’t. It is one of those things where you get a little hesitant when you see and entire part of the field left open. For me, I prefer not to have that, but understanding that goes in is appreciated.”

The Dodgers and Rays are among the “shiftiest” teams in the majors. According to Baseball Savant, the Dodgers use the shift 38.5 percent of the time and the Rays use it 29.5 percent.

The Chicago White Sox on Wednesday became the first team in more than four decades to turn a triple play and hit a grand slam in the same game.

The triple play came in the third inning when Houston Astros outfielder Jake Marisnick hit a rocket to White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada with runners on first and second and no outs.

MLB VETERAN RAJAI DAVIS HELPS METS WIN AFTER 2-HOUR UBER RIDE TO BALLPARK

Moncada touched third base, tossed the ball to second baseman Yolmer Sanchez and Sanchez threw to first baseman Jose Abreu to complete the 5-4-3 triple play.

“There’s a lot of things that have to go well for that to occur,” White Sox manager Rick Renteria told reporters after the game, according to MLB.com. “You have to be well within range of that bag and be able to release it. They got it out of their gloves, getting it in and out quickly. Marisnick’s fleet of foot. Everything had to be perfect.”

Moncada knew he had to make a quick play with Marisnick running to first base.

“I knew he’s a fast runner,” Moncada said. “That was one of the reasons why I tried to make the play as fast as I could.”

It was the first time the White Sox had turned a triple play since July 8, 2016.

White Sox outfielder Charles Tilson hit a grand slam — which was also his first career home run — in the sixth inning.

Maximum Security eyeing New Jersey events for return to track, horse’s owner says

Maximum Security, the horse disqualified at the Kentucky Derby earlier this month, soon may be returning to the track.

The animal’s owner said Sunday the horse may compete in two New Jersey races this summer.

Gary West told Blood Horse in an email that the Belmont Stakes was not being eyed as the horse’s next race, which means a rematch against the Preakness winner, War of Will, will have to wait.

MAXIMUM SECURITY’S OWNERS FILE LAWSUIT OVER KENTUCKY DERBY RESULT

“We are not looking at the Belmont because [trainer Jason Servis] says Maximum Security needs more time to fully recover,” West told the horse racing website. “We care a lot about our horses, and therefore we let them tell us when they are ready to run. Our ultimate goal is to give Maximum Security the opportunity to be 3-year-old champion, and everything we do will be to that end.”

West added: “The Haskell is our next primary goal, but he may have a prep before then, possibly in the Pegasus.”

The Pegasus Stakes and the Haskell are set to take place at New Jersey’s Monmouth Park. The Pegasus Stakes takes place June 16 and the Haskell takes place July 20.

West said he looked forward to Maximum Security racing War of Will at the Haskell.

“We hope War of Will shows up in the Haskell because that would be an extremely high visibility race and a ‘rematch’ would be great for racing,” West told Blood Horse.

A former college football defensive lineman is desperately hoping to latch onto an NFL team this season.

Jordan Harold, who recorded 4.5 sacks and 44 tackles in 21 games for the University of Missouri between the 2016 and 2017 seasons, was seen outside the Carolina Panthers’ stadium on Monday with a sign.

JOE NAMATH: CHOOSING TO PLAY FOR THE NEW YORK JETS WAS A ‘NO-BRAINER’

“Will pass rush for hot wings,” the sign read. “I slipped through the cracks.”

Harold told FOX 46 Charlotte all he wants is an opportunity.

“I just want a shot,” he said. “It takes a lot of humility to do something like this.”

A similar tactic had worked out for Harold before.

Harold earned a spot on the Missouri Tigers roster as a walk-on after transferring from Northwest Missouri State.

He first stood outside the team’s training facility and asked former Tigers defensive line coach Craig Kiligowski for a shot, according to the Kansas City Star. When he got his shot, he eventually became a team captain.

He left Missouri after the 2017 season and wasn’t drafted in 2018.

The sign may have piqued the Panthers’ interest. The team told the Kansas City Star that his information was sent to the organization’s scouting department.

Baltimore Ravens’ Hayden Hurst turns to social media to help find woman from flight

Baltimore Ravens tight end Hayden Hurst thinks he may have found “the one.”

The only problem? He has no idea who she is.

Hurst tweeted Sunday after flying back to Maryland from Jacksonville, Florida in the hopes someone on social media could help identify or connect him with a mystery woman he was smitten by.

DALLAS COWBOYS’ EZEKIEL ELLIOTT DETAINED AT LAS VEGAS MUSIC FESTIVAL AFTER ALTERCATION: REPORT

“To the gorgeous tall brunette on my flight to Baltimore. You walk incredibly fast and I couldn’t catch up but here’s hoping you have Twitter #theonethatgotaway,” Hurst wrote. The athlete said he tried to introduce himself but someone asked to take a picture with him and by the time the photo was snapped, the Baltimore brunette was in the wind.

Hurst’s effort to find the woman drew mixed reviews on the social media network, with some praising him for “shooting his shot” and others questioning how a professional football player who spends his season running routes and dodging defenders was unable to catch up to someone simply walking through an airport.

Despite Hurst’s public plea, it appears the 25-year-old still hasn’t found the terminal dashing dream girl.

Hurst is entering his second season with Baltimore. He played in 12 games last season, catching 13 passes for 163 yards and one touchdown.

He’s listed as the third tight end on the Ravens’ depth chart behind Nick Boyle and Mark Andrews, according to Roster Resource.
