Mexico Says It Will Sue the United States Over El Paso Shooting

The Mexican government is promising to take legal action against the United States for “failing to protect” its citizens after some Mexican nationals were among the victims of Saturday’s mass shooting in El Paso, TX.

Ebrard called Saturday’s shooting an “act of barbarism.”

“The president has instructed me to ensure that Mexico’s indignation translates into … efficient, prompt, expeditious and forceful legal actions for Mexico to take a role and demand that conditions are established that protect … Mexicans in the United States,” Ebrard said in a video posted on Twitter.

This seems like a fairly foolish precedent to set.

Countless American citizens have been kidnapped and killed inside of Mexico over the past decades. There’s also the violence perpetrated inside of the United States by Mexican nationals, usually in connection with Mexican drug cartels and/or gangs. You could even broaden this out to include drug overdoses, of which most of the drugs crossing our border illegally come from or through Mexico.

One Angel Mom responded to the foreign minister’s statement.

I’m not sure what the purpose of Mexico’s posturing here is given the actual realities. They have no ability to force changes in U.S. law to protect their citizens nor do they have any legal ground to claim their citizens are in some kind of unique danger within the United States. Statistically, they are far safer on our side of the border. Perhaps the Mexican government thinks this will help them in some future, unrelated negotiation if used as leverage?

Regardless of their motive, there’s something gross about the double standard given the violent conditions in their own country. The fact that are media are reporting this uncritically is also disappointing, yet typical.

Desperate to Fill Anti-Trump Airtime, CNN Hosts White Nationalist Richard Spencer As a Pundit

Who thought this was a good idea?

In the aftermath of Trump’s comments targeting the self-described “squad,” the media have predictably lost their minds. They’ve never met a hand they aren’t willing to overplay and this is a perfect example of that. CNN’s desperation to fill airtime with nonstop anti-Trump rantings is so pervasive that they decided it’d be a good idea to invite on white nationalist Richard Spencer to play pundit.

This was done on Jake Tapper’s show.

Why do this? This answer is simple.

There is literally no angle out of bounds, no bridge too far that CNN won’t pursue if they feel they can use it take shots at Donald Trump. It’s a disease at this point. If that means bringing on Richard Spencer so CNN can then say “see, see, white nationalists loved Trump’s tweets!” then that’s what they’ll do.

Giving airtime to Richard Spencer is moronic and it shows there’s no line CNN won’t cross. You don’t give white nationalists a platform just to fulfill selfish partisan goals. An obscure, essentially irrelevant movement just got a shot in the arm because Jake Tapper couldn’t control his Trump delusion.

The biggest question here is why CNN even thinks this is relevant. After some blow back, Tapper responded with this tweet.

Why is their reaction relevant? Did Jake Tapper do a segment with David Duke after he praised Ilhan Omar’s anti-Zionism several months back? Oh, he didn’t? How odd. I mean, if it’s relevant today, why not then?

It is garbage journalism, and I’m constantly assured Jake is indeed a journalist, to try to tie your political opponents to unconnected parties just to slander them. What white supremacists think has nothing to do with Donald Trump, Republicans, or the vast majority of his voters. Furthermore, the media never hold Democrats to such standards. Rashida Tlaib can have a chief funderaiser who literally praises Hamas terrorists and CNN doesn’t say a world. Ilhan Omar can call U.S. troops “Satan” and there’s no interview on Jake Tapper’s show with jihadists to see if they agree with her.

But when Trump is involved, here’s CNN to trot out a racist to try to tie to all Trump voters. Just journalisming all over the place.

I’ll end by noting that Jake Tapper is not your friend. I realize a lot of right-wing pundits see him as the token good guy at CNN. He’s the guy they can banter with on Twitter from time to time and feel like they are part of the club. But he’s not a journalist. He’s a left leaning activist just like the rest of the anchors on CNN.

Right now, Tapper has doubled down on the appearance. We’ll see if he eventually admits what a monumentally stupid idea this was.

Is CBS Inciting Violence in the Latest Episode of “The Good Fight”

Westlake Legal Group is-cbs-inciting-violence-in-the-latest-episode-of-the-good-fight Is CBS Inciting Violence in the Latest Episode of “The Good Fight” white nationalist The Good Fight Speech richard spencer Overton's Window nazi Ilhan Omar Front Page Stories Front Page CBS Allow Media Exception

Over the course of the last week, the blatant anti-American, intolerant rhetoric being spewed by members of Congress has dominated the news cycle. Any attempt to criticize or question the vile, divisive remarks put forth by a trio of freshman Representatives and their allies has been characterized as “inciting violence,” and putting the lives of these lawmakers in jeopardy (never mind that Republican lawmakers actually have been shot at, and one critically injured, in an attempted mass murder).

You know the spotlight’s getting to harsh and too close to the reality of what these totalitarians believe when their allies in Hollywood jump in.

On Friday afternoon, the public relations team for CBS’s “The Good Fight” sent some tweets publicizing the show’s latest episode, “The One Where a Nazi Gets Punched.”

We’re all well aware that “Nazi” is the word of choice used by leftists to describe anyone they feel isn’t sufficiently “woke.”

The main story line during the episode in question centers on two of the series regulars (good leftists, of course) performing volunteer work as poll watchers in the suburbs (filled by racist Republicans, of course). The story takes some twists and turns, which are described at Vulture and other outlets – from a purely leftist point of view of course – that culminate in a fight where both the Good Fight regulars and the Republican poll watchers unite against “white nationalists,” or Nazis in leftist parlance.

The show’s Twitter account then posted a clip showing a monologue delivered during the episode by Jay DiPersia, portrayed by Nyambi Nyambi.

Here is the text of the monologue:

“Is it all right to hit a Nazi unprovoked? I was always taught never to throw the first punch, never to instigate. Defend, but don’t attack. But then I saw a video of the white nationalist Richard Spencer being punched in the face during an interview. I realized Spencer was in a pressed suit, wearing a tie, being interviewed like his opinion mattered — like it should be considered part of the conversation, like neo-Nazism is just one political point of view.

“And then I realized there’s no better way to show some speech is not equal. Some speech requires a more visceral response. It’s like Overton’s window — that’s the term for which ideas are tolerated in public discourse. Well, Overton’s window doesn’t mean shit unless it comes with some enforcement. So yeah, this is enforcement. It’s time to punch a few Nazis.”

Whose “enforcement”? Who gets to decide what speech is not equal? Perhaps DiPersia, or those who write his lines, should read some First Amendment case law.

Knowing the backlash that would soon follow, the show followed up with this tweet:

What exactly is CBS trying to do with this storyline? Are they inciting violence against those who would wear a MAGA hat? (Spoiler: People wearing MAGA hats are already being physically attacked.) Are they attempting to chill the speech and expression of opinion of millions of people who don’t agree with their worldview?

I would argue that it’s both, and that that fact is readily apparent. It’s a sad, perilous time for our country.
