A scene from the North Carolina state fair. Screen grab via CNN.

CNN sent correspondent Martin Savidge to my beloved state of North Carolina this week to ask voters their thoughts on the impeachment inquiry drama currently playing out in Washington, D.C.

As House Intel Chair Adam Schiff’s show trial inquiry has been described by Republicans like Rep. Lee Zeldin (NY) as nothing more than a “clown show” process, it would seem fitting that the choice of venue for the interviews was … the state fair.

Before we get started on what the voters said, let’s take a quick look at the beauty of it all – from the ferris wheel at sunset to the bacon stand where, of course, the bacon options are plentiful:

Most of the voters Savidge talked to were either against impeaching Trump or ambivalent about it. One of the voters talked about how he did not like the secrecy of it all. Here’s a partial transcript:

SAVIDGE: Here, you can satisfy your wildest deep-fried dreams. We’ve come to measure voter appetite for impeachment.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I think it’s a waste of the taxpayer’s money.

SAVIDGE: Do you think the president did anything wrong?

JENNIFER WALL, NORTH CAROLINA VOTER: Absolutely, absolutely.
[…]
JIM UZZLE, NORTH CAROLINA VOTER: I don’t think he’s broken the law and I wish they would do right for America versus wasting their money, our money on a lost cause.

SAVIDGE: Most of the Trump supporters we talked to were unmoved by days of explosive testimony and revelations against the president.

Do you think it changes the minds of Trump supporters?

JEFF MASON, NORTH CAROLINA VOTER: I do not. The ones of us who support him will continue to support him. If you look at the economy, there’s no way to design that weir doing pretty amazing.
[…]
RICH BLEWITT, NORTH CAROLINA VOTER: If it was out in the open and everything was discussed and he did something wrong, impeach the guy. I just don’t like the secrecy. It just sounds wrong the way they’re going about it, that’s all.

It was the last voter, a Trump supporter, who stole the segment. When Savidge asked him if he followed the impeachment news closely, here’s how the voter answered:

SAVIDGE: Joe Miller did vote for Trump. Do you follow this?

JOE MILLER, NORTH CAROLINA VOTER: Not much. I try not to, actually.

SAVIDGE: How do you avoid it? It seems to be everywhere.

MILLER: I watch a lot of ESPN.

Heh. I set the video to start at his comments. Click below to watch:

Now my critics will complain that I’m saying voters should stay in the dark on what’s going on in the world by avoiding watching the news. Not so. I just know that as someone who covers this stuff every day, sometimes it’s nice to be able to avoid all the drama and spin, even if just for a few hours. Especially when we’re talking about watching the type of “news” programming that comes from national media outlets like CNN.

And it’s not even so much by watching ESPN as an alternative, either, because even they get political sometimes. Maybe watch some ID channel. Or HGTV, or some YouTube organizing videos, or …

Republican nominee John James gave Michigan’s senior Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow a run for her money in 2018 in a closely-watched Senate race, but fell short.

Screen grab via the NYT.

But James, a West Point grad and U.S. Army veteran who served in Iraq, is not someone who gives up easily. This time around he wants to take on Michigan’s junior Sen. Gary Peters, and two new polls show James’ hard work is paying off:

That “oh, oh” you hear from the Democratic camp of U.S. Senator Gary Peters is that, in one week, two polls are out showing his race against Republican challenger John James is a statistical dead heat and for an incumbent to be in that spot one year before the election is hardly good news.

In the Vanguard, Dennis, Pubic Sector Consultant poll last May it was Mr. Peters 42% and a generic Republican 36%. It is now 39.5% for Mr. Peters and 39.3% for Mr. James.

The race today is a toss-up.

And then there was this poll from earlier this month:

The poll, conducted by the Michigan-based Marketing Resource Group, a firm with ties to Republicans, shows Peters leading businessman and Iraq War veteran John James (R) by a slim 43 percent to 40 percent margin.
[…]
James may have a better chance against Peters, who is seeking his second term in office. Peters is less well-known among Michiganders than his senior colleague; while 75 percent of state voters polled said they were aware of Peters, only 35 percent knew enough about him to say whether they felt positively, 20 percent, or negatively, 15 percent
[…]
The poll shows a tighter race than a Target Insyght survey last month, which showed Peters leading by a 53 percent to 37 percent margin.

His third quarter fundraising haul was pretty impressive, too:

We still have a little over a year between now and election time so obviously a lot of things can change, but the fact that James has a strong showing and is doing well in the fundraising department at this stage in the game is a good sign that the inroads he made with voters during the last campaign cycle are paying off.

His only primary opponent as of right now is a man named Bob Carr, and he dropped out of the 2018 Senate race before the primary. He’s also a former Democrat. The Michigan primary is August 4, 2020.

Even with all that encouraging news, James or whoever the Republican nominee ends up being will still end up having a major uphill battle to clear the final hurdle:

Beyond that, beating the professorial Peters will require doing something no one has done in Michigan in 67 years: defeating a sitting Democratic U.S. senator. The last was Blair Moody in 1952, who had been appointed to serve out a term the previous year and lost an election bid to Charles Potter.

Also, though President Trump won Michigan in 2016, his approval numbers there right now are not good according to the Michigan state chart from Morning Consult (make sure to scroll down and click the Michigan tab). This could carry over in down ballot races if that sentiment doesn’t change between now and November 2020.

In any event, put this one on your list of races to watch next year. The Michigan Senate race in 2018 was closer than people thought it would be and that’s just one of many reasons why Republicans feel like James has a real shot at an upset the second time around.

Stay tuned.

Home State Blues: Kamala Harris Gets More Devastating News About Her Campaign in California

No matter where 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris goes, she faces an uphill battle.

Nationally, she’s polling in a distant 5th place. In Iowa, where she vowed to “f**king move” in order to win over Democrats in the crucial caucus state, her campaign is cratering.

She’s not doing any better in South Carolina, which has a large percentage of black Democratic voters, nor in New Hampshire.

But it’s her home state of California that perhaps more than any other state is showing her the writing on the wall.

Over a month ago an Emerson University survey showed her in 5th place in California behind Andrew Yang.

Unfortunately for Harris, her numbers in there among Democratic primary voters have not gotten any better over time:

Less than five months before Californians vote in the 2020 presidential primary, a new Change Research poll for KQED shows U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris losing ground to the front-runners, Sens. Elizabeth Warren from Massachusetts and Vermont’s Bernie Sanders.

The poll, taken after last week’s Democratic candidate debate, finds Warren is the top choice of 28% of primary voters, followed by Sanders at 24% and former Vice President Joe Biden at 19%.

South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg is fourth with 9% followed by Harris at 8%. The October survey puts Harris 20 percentage points behind Sen. Warren, compared with a 14 percentage point gap in our September poll.

The poll also shows Harris trailing badly among female voters and Hispanic voters:

By gender, Warren is the top choice of female voters with 31% support, followed by Sanders with 23% and Biden at 21%. Buttigieg and Harris are the choice of 8% and 7% of women respectively.
[…]
Sen. Sanders is the favorite of Latino voters with 28% support, followed by Warren and Biden (22% each), Harris (7%) and Buttigieg (6%). The only Latino candidate, former HUD Secretary Julian Castro, is the choice of just 1% of Latino voters in California.

Harris is in decent shape with black Democrats according to the poll (16%), but she still lags behind Biden (30%) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (20%).

As I’ve said before, I believe she’s sticking around at this point as an audition of sorts for vice presidential consideration, but considering she’s in bad shape across all key demographics, I’m not sure how much good she’d do in terms of the female/black vote for Biden or Sanders should they become the nominee. And the possibility of Warren picking another woman as her running mate is very low.

Of course, general elections are much different than primaries so there’s still a chance she could end up as the eventual nominee’s running mate. But as far as her chances go for the nomination itself, it’s all over but the crying at this point, especially when you consider the fact that no recent candidate for president has gone on to be their party’s nominee without winning their home state.

Caught: NY Times Conveniently Runs Interference for Hillary Clinton in Her Battle With Tulsi Gabbard

Last week, Bonchie wrote about about how failed 2016 Democratic nominee for president Hillary Clinton told former Obama adviser David Plouffe in a podcast last week that Rep. Tulsi Gabbard and 2016 Green party nominee Jill Stein were both “Russian assets.”

Prior to making that claim, Clinton also asserted that “I’m not making any predictions but I think they’ve got their eye on somebody who is currently in the Democratic primary and are grooming her to be the third-party candidate,” which was a clear reference to Gabbard even though she did not mention the 2020 presidential candidate by name during the podcast.

It was widely reported Friday morning by multiple journalists on Twitter, including the Washington Post’s Aaron Blake, that the “they” Hillary referred to were the Russians. Here’s what Blake and others tweeted:

Clinton’s spokesman Nick Merrill was even asked about her comments to confirm it was Gabbard who she was referring to. He did:

In addition to an opinion piece on Hillary vs. Tulsi, the New York Times also published a straight news (heh) report about Clinton’s remarks and initially reported that Hillary was referring to the Russians as being the ones who were “grooming” Gabbard to be a third party candidate.

But sometime between last Friday and Tuesday, they changed their story, and now report it was “Republicans” Hillary meant, not the Russians. How do we know this? Through Merrill, in a series of tweets, the first two of which note the so-called error and correction:

Because I don’t trust anything that comes from Merrill or anyone else on Team Clinton, I searched for a transcript so I could read what she said in context. Politifact, thankfully, had it:

Plouffe: “But one of the reasons [Trump] was able to win is the third party vote.”

Clinton: “Right.”

Plouffe: “And what’s clear to me, you mentioned, you know, he’s going to just lie. … He’s going to say, whoever our nominee is, ‘will ban hamburgers and steaks and you can’t fly and infanticide’ and people believe this. So, how concerned are you about that? For me, so much of this does come down to the win number. If he has to get 49 or even 49.5 in a bunch of…”

Clinton: “He can’t do that.”

Plouffe: “…which I don’t think he can… So he’s going to try and drive the people not to vote for him but just to say, ‘you know, you can’t vote for them either.’ And that seems to be, I think, to the extent that I can define a strategy, their key strategy right now.”

Clinton: “Well, I think there’s going to be two parts and I think it’s going to be the same as 2016: ‘Don’t vote for the other guy. You don’t like me? Don’t vote for the other guy because the other guy is going to do X, Y and Z or the other guy did such terrible things and I’m going to show you in these, you know, flashing videos that appear and then disappear and they’re on the dark web, and nobody can find them, but you’re going to see them and you’re going to see that person doing these horrible things.’”

“They’re also going to do third party again. And I’m not making any predictions but I think they’ve got their eye on somebody who is currently in the Democratic primary and are grooming her to be the third party candidate. She’s the favorite of the Russians. They have a bunch of sites and bots and other ways of supporting her so far, and that’s assuming Jill Stein will give it up. Which she might not, ’cause she’s also a Russian asset.”

Plouffe: (Inaudible)

Clinton: “Yeah, she’s a Russian asset, I mean, totally.

“And so, they know they can’t win without a third party candidate and, so, I don’t know who it’s going to be it but I will guarantee you they’ll have a vigorous third party challenge in the key states that they most need it.”

Understandably, it’s hard to tell whether Hillary is talking about Trump and Republicans or the Russians when she refers to “they” because she uses the terms interchangeably often, but it simply does not make sense that Merrill confirmed Friday she was talking about Russians grooming Gabbard but then rushed to Twitter a few days later to correct the record.

In fact, the “correction” is just a little too convenient for my liking. It’s almost as though it was a coordinated effort. Considering how closely the Clinton camp monitors the media, it is not outside the realm of possibility at all that they pitched a fit to the NYT to the point the paper changed it on their behalf.

Just for purposes of discussion, let’s say Hillary Clinton really was referring to Republicans as “grooming” Gabbard.

1) It’s still highly insulting to Gabbard. Even though she doesn’t view Republicans as the enemy, she’s also a proud Democrat and by suggesting Republicans were “grooming” her to be a third party candidate means Clinton thinks Gabbard, who served her country in Iraq, would sell out her party and what she stands for in order to give Trump the advantage in the general election.

2) Plus, Clinton, who is delusional enough to think Trump and Republicans colluded with the Russians in 2016, thinks they are still “working together” now to “steal” 2020. So by saying Republicans are “grooming” Gabbard, she’s saying Gabbard is working with people who allegedly are getting assistance from a foreign country to “steal” our elections.

The “correction” the paper made does not change the despicable nature of what she said.

3) Hillary Clinton unquestionably called Gabbbard a “Russian asset.” That’s just as disgusting.

The bottom line is that Democrats including Hillary Clinton have banged the “Russia” drum since 2016. The only difference now is that she’s implicating members of her own party in some supposed new Republican scheme to steal 2020.

Someone needs to stage an intervention with her. Seriously. This is just nuts.

Dick’s CEO mulling POTUS bid

Westlake Legal Group DicksSporting Dick’s CEO mulling POTUS bid Third Party The Blog potus Ed Stack Dick's Sporting Goods 2020 Elections

The entire 2020 presidential election is starting to get a bit boring, isn’t it? What this race really needs is a fabulously wealthy, straight, white, cisgender male who’s old enough to collect Social Security benefits to toss his hat in the ring. (Oh, wait… we’ve already got at least three of those.) Anyway, if the club is still accepting new members, there may be one on the way. Politico is reporting today that Ed Stack, the CEO of Dick’s Sporting Goods, is running focus groups in Wisconsin to measure possible interest in him as a third-party candidate next year.

Ed Stack, the CEO of Dick’s Sporting Goods and a longtime Republican donor, is testing the waters for a possible third-party presidential bid that could scramble the dynamics of the 2020 general election.

Various messages were presented to a focus group in southern Wisconsin this week centering on the billionaire businessman, along with possible three-way match-ups against Donald Trump and Joe Biden or Elizabeth Warren.

The focus group, according to a source who took part in the testing, ran through varying themes involving Stack and heavily focused on his example of “showing leadership” by halting the sale of assault-style rifles at all of Dick’s Sporting Goods stores in the wake of the high school massacre in Parkland, Florida.

Hey, if Ed Stack wants to throw his money away on a doomed campaign, that’s up to him. It’s a free country, after all… at least for the time being.

But if he really does take the plunge, the obvious question is whether he hurts one major party candidate more than the other. Being a Republican donor for many years, you might be tempted to think that he would be a big draw for the Never Trump vote and others who might be disillusioned with the President’s performance. But ever since Stack led the charge to stop selling “assault weapons” in his stores he’s become something of a hero on the left. He would also be viewed as a far more moderate choice, so if the Democrats wind up nominating one of the crackpot socialists like Sanders or Warren, he might start cutting into their support.

Would it make any difference? It remains tough to imagine any third party challenger taking even a single electoral college vote. But at the same time, there’s still a valid argument to be made that Ralph Nader actually elected George W. Bush in 2000 by siphoning off votes from Al Gore in Florida.

My gut instinct here tells me that Stack is serious about thinking about running, but when all of the polling is done and he sees what his prospects are he’ll pull the plug on this idea. He’s presumably a smart businessman and should quickly become aware of the daunting challenges such a plan would present. He’d have to purchase himself a full roster of experienced campaign staff with national experience (assuming there are any for hire right now), plus set up organizations in all fifty states just to get on the ballot. And the clock is already ticking in terms of getting all that work done. It’s not impossible, but it would require virtually flawless execution to pull it off. Stack’s history doesn’t suggest that he became a billionaire by being the type to pour money down ratholes.

Jessica Taylor, Republican candidate for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District. Screen grab via her YouTube page.

Back in July, Republican Rep. Martha Roby (AL-02) announced she would be retiring from Congress at the end of her term after serving since 2011.

Since that time, a number of GOP competitors have jumped into the primary race. But on Monday, a new candidate entered the race with a splashy ad that is turning heads and has people wanting to know more about her and what she stands for.

Jessica Taylor threw her hat into the ring, making herself the sixth Republican – and first woman – to declare their intentions for the Congressional seat. She vowed to take on AOC and the rest of the “Squad”, and declared that she is an unapologetic conservative and Trump supporter:

Prattville attorney and businesswoman Jessica Taylor announced her candidacy for Congress in Alabama’s 2nd District Monday, saying she wants to form a “conservative squad” to take on liberal Democrats led by Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY.

In a campaign video, Taylor highlighted her rural Alabama roots, business career, and family with former State Sen. Bryan Taylor. But it’s her love of playing on the basketball team that Taylor connects to using teamwork to support President Donald Trump.

“I’m sick of arrogant socialists like AOC, who’ve never even run a lemonade stand, trying to tell us how to live in Alabama and that more government is the answer,” she says in the video.

“I have zero interest in being a professional politician, but conservatives like us need a squad of our own — and I’ll build it.”

Watch her debut ad:

She told “Fox and Friends” in an interview this morning that “We need somebody who can convince my generation and others that more government is not the answer. More government is the problem.”

Indeed.

The 2nd district is reliably Republican, and has been red since 1965, outside of Democrat Bobby Bright’s term from 2009-2011.

The Alabama primary is scheduled for March 3, 2020.

The political world was rocked last week when it was reported that failed 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton called 2020 presidential contender Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) a “Russian asset” along with 2016 Green Party nominee Jill Stein.

Clinton’s provocative comments, for which she provided no evidence, were made during a podcast with former Obama senior adviser David Plouffe. Gabbard obliterated Clinton in response on Twitter and then later in interviews.

Something that wasn’t widely reported last week, however, is that another Democrat was floating the “Tulsi is a Russian asset” accusation before Hillary was.

During last Tuesday night’s presidential debate, Gabbard mentioned a “CNN commentator” who that morning “said on national television that I’m an asset of Russia.”

Watch:

That CNN commentator she was talking about is Bakari Sellers, a former South Carolina state representative. Sellers is also a vocal supporter and surrogate for the presidential campaign of Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), which was reported back in April.

On CNN’s New Day the morning of the debate, here’s what Sellers said about Gabbard:

“I firmly believe that Tulsi Gabbard stands on that stage and is the antithesis to what the other 11 individuals stand for, especially when it comes to issues such as foreign policy.”

“There is no question, there is no question that Tulsi Gabbard, of all the 12, is a puppet for the Russian government,” said Sellers, a lawyer and former member of the South Carolina House of Representatives.

“[T]here is a chance that Tulsi is not just working for the United States,” he also said, adding, “That’s not just an allegation.” Sellers, however, did not produce any evidence to back up his claim.

Watch the segment below, courtesy of MRC-TV:

The panel appeared momentarily stunned. But as you can see from the transcript, New Day hosts Alisyn Camerota and John Berman provided little to no pushback on Sellers’ shocking remarks.

When Gabbard made her comments about him at the debate, I’m not sure if she knew he was a surrogate for the Harris campaign. Would have been VERY interesting to see her ask Harris point blank on the stage if she agreed with him. It could have been Tulsi vs. Kamala from the second debate all over again.

Which brings me to my main question: Did Harris know Sellers was going to make this “point” the day of the debate? Watch her non-answer Friday to a journalist’s question about Clinton’s accusations against Gabbard:

“I mean everyone is entitled to their opinion.” And then “I think that there is nothing else to say.” What is that even supposed to mean?

If I didn’t know any better I’d say Sellers’ comments were planned. There is a lot of bad blood between the Gabbard and Harris camps that stems even further back than just what happened at the July debate. It would not surprise me at all to find out this was calculated. Politicians – Democrats especially – are notorious for launching nasty broadsides at their political opposition via surrogates but then feigning ignorance or innocence when directly asked about it later.

Sen. Harris has proved time and time again she is not above this tactic herself. I can’t prove it, but my gut instinct tells me she was aware of what Sellers would accuse Gabbard of during that segment.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez built her House campaign and now her Congressional career off of embracing identity politics and complaining about the supposed “privilege” white men enjoy in America today. She has frequently talked about how we need to turn the country away from the policies of “old white men” and instead embrace the socialist ideas of woke progressive women of color like herself.

Considering their past history (she volunteered for his campaign in 2016, they’ve bonded since she was elected), it wasn’t a big shock that AOC endorsed Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) for president over the weekend. But it still left some people wondering how a young socialist Democrat who constantly complains about old white guys running the country and how America needs more minority representation would, ya know, pick an old white guy over the female candidates in the race, including Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who some say is Sanders’ ideological twin.

One such person wondering was CBS News correspondent Nikole Killion, who went off script by asking AOC this very uncomfortable (for her) question during an exclusive interview done after she endorsed Sanders Saturday:

“As a woman of color, why back an old white guy? And is this the future of the party?” asked Killion after Ocasio-Cortez spoke at the Sanders rally in Queens, N.Y.

“I’m actually very excited about this partnership because it shows what we have to do in our country is that we have to come together across race, across gender, across generation,” Ocasio-Cortez added, while sitting next to Sanders.

Watch:

It was actually a very un-AOC answer, because for AOC and company, everything – and I do mean everything – is viewed through the PWOC/PPOC prism. For example, if you criticize a progressive man of color, you’re automatically branded a racist. If you disagree with a progressive woman of color, you’re automatically branded a sexist and a racist, because there are no legitimate criticisms of PWOC according to the AOCs of the world.

But apparently endorsing an old, privileged white guy over minority female candidates is okay because he also happens to be a socialist.

I categorically reject identity politics, and have no problem with a woman or a woman of color or whatever endorsing the male candidate of her choice. That’s true “freedom of choice” and not the selective style “freedom of choice” AOC and her comrades promote when it’s politically convenient.

Bernie Sanders’ female supporters were dragged through the mud by “feminists” in 2016 for supporting his candidacy over Hillary Clinton’s, and women who are choosing to endorse him now over Warren, Harris, and the other female candidates are getting similar treatment.

So while I don’t endorse identity politics as a matter of principle, I’m still sitting back munching on popcorn watching these same women getting hoisted by their own petards. Y’all built this. Now you can own it.

Liberals Try Smearing Gabbard Over David Duke Endorsement. But One Inconvenient Fact Nukes Their Argument.

As Bonchie wrote Friday, Hillary Clinton came out of far left field with provocative comments she made, without evidence, on a recent podcast with former Obama senior adviser David Plouffe suggesting Russia was “grooming” 2020 presidential contender Rep. Tulsi Gabbard to be a third party candidate in order to spoil chances for the eventual Democratic nominee.

She also referred to Gabbard and 2016 Green Party nominee Jill Stein as “Russian assets”, per this recap of the podcast from Fox News:

“I’m not making any predictions but I think they’ve got their eye on somebody who is currently in the Democratic primary and are grooming her to be the third-party candidate,” Clinton said, in apparent reference to Gabbard. “She’s the favorite of the Russians. They have a bunch of sites and bots and other ways of supporting her so far.”

She then accused Stein, who ran against her and Donald Trump in 2016, of also being an asset of Russia: “That’s assuming Jill Stein will give it up, which she might not because she’s also a Russian asset.”

Gabbard pushed back with a blistering response, calling the failed 2016 Democratic presidential nominee “the queen of warmongers, embodiment of corruption, and personification of the rot that has sickened the Democratic Party for so long.” Gabbard also challenged Clinton to stop “cowardly [hiding] behind your proxies” and join the presidential race so they could face each other directly.

Sadly, Clinton’s pathetic broadside of Gabbard inspired other Democrats and supporters of other presidential candidates to revive the old smear about how racist David Duke’s February endorsement of Gabbard somehow Means SomethingWestlake Legal Group 2122 Liberals Try Smearing Gabbard Over David Duke Endorsement. I logged on to Twitter first thing this morning and saw that “David Duke” was trending. When I clicked on the trending link, it was filled with unhinged liberals trying to convince people that Duke’s endorsement of Gabbard meant she was a racist candidate:

That’s just a small sampling. There are many more.

The only problem with liberals who are telling us that Duke’s endorsement Means SomethingWestlake Legal Group 2122 Liberals Try Smearing Gabbard Over David Duke Endorsement. But One Inconvenient Fact Nukes Their Argument. washington D.C. Veterans twitter tulsi gabbard Social Media Politics North Carolina Minnesota Media Ilhan Omar Hawaii Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story Featured Post Endorsements elections democrats Culture Congress Campaigns Allow Media Exception 2020 Elections 2020 is that these same liberals have conveniently forgotten (or perhaps didn’t know, because it was not widely reported at the time by the LSM) that Duke also endorsed Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) back in March:

In a Thursday podcast at his site, the former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard spoke out strongly in favor of the Muslim Congresswoman who has accused Jewish lawmakers of dual loyalty, attributed support for Israel to foreign money, and said Israel has “hypnotized” the world.

“By defiance to Z.O.G. Ilhan Omar is NOW the most important Member of the US Congress!” Mr. Duke wrote on his site, using the acronym for “Zionist Occupation Government,” a term anti-Semites use to refer to the U.S. government as secretly controlled by Jews.

So going by the left’s standards, if David Duke endorsing Gabbard means she’s a racist, then Duke endorsing Omar means she’s an anti-Semite, right? Isn’t that how this works? Your rules, liberals. Your rules.

That said, there’s plenty of evidence Omar is an actual anti-Semite, regardless of Duke’s praise of her this year. On the other hand, there’s zero evidence Gabbard is a racist.

Liberals who disagree with Gabbard on policy should stick to that, rather than lob false accusations of racism and Russian grooming that they can’t back up.

Video: Mayor Pete Suplexes Beto After Failed Senate Candidate Questioned His Courage

About the only thing I looked forward to seeing Tuesday night at the fourth Democratic debate was the scrap between Beto O’Rourke and South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

Beto and Mayor Pete have been needling each other for weeks on the issue of gun control, and specifically O’Rourke’s mandatory gun confiscation plan. Mayor Pete has referred to Beto’s plan as an unattainable “shiny object.” Because of that, O’Rourke has countered that the Mayor, who served in Afghanistan, was “afraid of doing the right thing right now” because he was supposedly more interested in focus groups, consultants, and polls than saving lives.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper, one of last night’s debate moderators, teed up the tense exchange between the two by first asking Beto about how he planned on implementing his plan. After Beto gave a non-committal answer as to what he would do, Cooper then turned to Mayor Pete for his thoughts:

COOPER: Thank you. Mayor Buttigieg, just yesterday, you referred to mandatory buybacks as confiscation and said that Congressman O’Rourke has been picking a fight to try to stay relevant. Your response on guns?

BUTTIGIEG: Look, Congressman, you just made it clear that you don’t know how this is actually going to take weapons off the streets. If you can develop the plan further, I think we can have a debate about it. But we can’t wait. People are dying in the streets right now.

Beto responded by emphatically stating that we can’t wait on gun confiscation, the time is now, and we need to do the right thing, etc. etc. He also added the below comments, which was another swipe at Buttigieg’s courage regarding taking what Democrats would characterize as bold action on gun control:

O’ROURKE: No, let’s decide what we are going to believe in, what we’re going to achieve. And then let’s bring this country together in order to do that. Listening to my fellow Americans, to those moms who demand action, to those students who march for our lives, who, in fact, came up with this extraordinary bold peace plan… that calls for mandatory buybacks, let’s follow their inspiration and lead and not be limited by the polls and the consultants and the focus groups. Let’s do what’s right…”

Buttigieg at long last let him have it:

BUTTIGIEG: The problem isn’t the polls. The problems is the policy. And I don’t need lessons from you on courage, political or personal. Everyone on this stage is determined to get something done. Everyone on this stage recognizes, or at least I thought we did, that the problem is not other Democrats who don’t agree with your particular idea of how to handle this.

Watch:

I’ve said before that I’d be content with them both destroying each other at future campaign stops and debates because they are both pompous, sanctimonious hypocrites on a number of fronts, but Beto really did have that coming to him.
