Schumer and Pelosi Issue Joint Statement: ‘The Differences Are Stark’ Between What Barr And Mueller Said About Obstruction

President Donald Trump meets with, from left, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and other Congressional leaders in the Oval Office of the White House, Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, in Washington. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer issued a joint statement on the Mueller Report at 2 pm. It said:

The differences are stark between what Attorney General Barr said on obstruction and what Special Counsel Mueller have said on obstruction.

As we continue to review the report, one thing is clear: Barr presented a conclusion that the president did not obstruct justice while Mueller’s report appears to undercut that finding,

Yes, that’s it.

Imagine calling the Attorney General a liar and not offering any supporting evidence.

Pelosi and Schumer are signaling that they plan to keep on beating a dead horse. Given that the collusion ship has sailed, they have pivoted to the question of obstruction.

Since they failed to offer us a clue as to what they see as the differences between what Barr and Mueller have said on obstruction, I’ll assume it’s because Mueller and his minions were determined to leave the impression that Trump really did obstruct justice. They simply didn’t have quite enough evidence to prove obstruction beyond a reasonable doubt, so they carefully chose language that would allow the left to keep the door open on this issue. It was their goal to maintain the suspicion which has engulfed the Trump presidency from the beginning.

If there were anything definitive in the report, Pelosi and Schumer would have included it in their statement. “Mueller’s report appears to undercut Barr’s finding because on page 245, he includes…”

The National Review’s Andy McCarthy appeared on Fox News directly following Barr’s press conference and explained that “intent” is the determining factor in an obstruction charge. Did Trump fire FBI Director James Comey to end the counterintelligence investigation into Russia collusion? Obviously, Trump knew the investigation would survive Comey’s firing.

Even if it had been Trump’s intent, as we know, a government appointee serves at the pleasure of the president and can be fired anytime, for any reason. This never should have been an issue.

Pelosi and Schumer see the writing on the wall. The nearly three year long deep state conspiracy is about to be blown wide open and they’re trying to keep the focus on obstruction to steer the conversation away from it.

Time to bring out the big guns, Mr. President.

The meltdown on the left has manifested some very bizarre claims by various talking heads in their desperate attempts to make anything — and I mean anything — look like a chink in the Mueller report’s armor.

Take, for instance, this panel on MSNBC where Neal Katyal, former acting solicitor general and current SCOTUS lawyer, literally tries to explain that lawyers don’t use the term “collusion,” which he claims is a term only used by President Donald Trump.

Thus, suggests Katyal, Attorney General William Barr is somehow in Trump’s back pocket.

It’s not exactly difficult to look back and find all the times that the term “collusion” was used by everyone in the media to paint Trump as a Russian operative. This is something Matt Wolking posted in a fun music video featuring everyone in the media, politicians, and their grandmothers using the term.

Even a quick search result on various news websites shows just how often the term “collusion” was thrown around by nearly everyone.

At CNN we get 2,044 results when the term is searched for.

Even if many of these articles containing the word have nothing to do with Trump, there are enough about Trump to signify that the term was used ad nauseam by anyone trying to put Trump in Russia with the candlestick. For the past few years, we couldn’t escape hearing the word. I’m pretty sure some in the media were saying it in their sleep that they used it so often.

That said, I can’t necessarily blame the leftist media for making such bizarre and outrageous claims as the one Katyal made earlier today. For the longest time, they pinned all their hopes on the notion that Trump’s defeat would come at the hands of the Russian collusion narrative. Now that there is definitively no collusion, they’re rudderless.

As the situation continues to devolve for the Southern Poverty Law Center, more bad news continues to plague the organization as even the left-leaning social media network Twitter has now abandoned the SPLC and no longer relies on it to tell the network what is and isn’t acceptable.

According to the Daily Caller, Twitter is one of the few big tech companies to divorce itself from the SPLC, and did so over the fact that it ignores racial harassment while taking in donor dollars:

Twitter appears to be one of the only big tech companies in Silicon Valley to completely divorce itself from the SPLC, an Alabama-based group that got slammed in March following reports it takes donors’ money while ignoring racial harassment. Facebook has not responded to The Daily Caller News Foundation’s repeated requests for comment about its affiliation with the SPLC.

“The SPLC is not a member of Twitter’s Trust and Safety Council or a partner the company has worked with recently,” a source within Twitter told TheDCNF on the condition of anonymity. The company listed the SPLC as a “safety partner” working to combat “hateful conduct and harassment,” according to a June 2018 DCNF report.

Twitter also included the Trust and Safety Council, which “provides input on our safety products, policies, and programs,” the company’s policy page noted at the time. Twitter’s page no longer includes SPLC as a member helping to govern certain types of conduct. Facebook’s involvement with the group was apparently more intimate.

The Daily Caller has reported that the SPLC is still working with Facebook and Amazon, and Google utilized the organization to assist in ruling on who and what to censor on YouTube last year.

The SPLC has found itself in hot water after utilizing its often looked to platform by the left to label nearly anyone who disagrees with them as a “hate group.” This ended with Quilliam Foundation founder Maajid Nawaz winning a lawsuit against the group for labeling him, a Muslim reformist, as an anti-Muslim extremist.

After that occurred, many began bringing lawsuits against the SPLC.

Without doubt the saddest story in this whole debacle is that of Carter Page. Page signed onto the Trump campaign in an advisory capacity. However, he was targeted by the Washington Post and New York Times as he had extensive contacts in Russian and had even lived there for a few years. For reasons that remain unexplored, Page was featured in the largely discredited dossier compiled by Christopher Steele. Those unfounded allegations were sufficient to convince a federal judge to grant an surveillance warrant against him. He has been harassed and maligned in the media despite no real hint that he did anything wrong other than being someone who saw the Trump campaign as a way of furthering his career.

Page rates a section in the Special Counsel’s report. This is how it starts:

Shameful.

The fact that the media abused this guy and that he was put under surveillance by our national security apparatus based on a specious catalog of allegations that were never even attempted to be corroborated is inexcusable. People should go to jail for that.

CNN’s “Analysts” Swing for the Fences, Strike Out Each Time

The number of people in the media losing their minds over what the Mueller Report says – or, rather, is not saying – continues to grow. CNN, a network that has been particularly all-in on the idea that Trump has to be guilty of something, is going wall-to-wall with its coverage of insinuations.

But, it’s not the personalities currently on the air that are doing the best analysis out there. It’s the people who are “analysts” for the network currently tweeting about the report. These folks, all of whom have a very inflated sense of self-worth, are firing away with some of their best material.

And it is falling very, very short.

Here’s noted New York Times reporter and CNN analyst Maggie Haberman, who has determined the song “Edelweiss” is actually pretty sinister.

The better question, Maggie, is… do you?

Then, there is “reformed” conservative Max Boot, a columnist for the Washington Post and also a CNN analyst. Max has alternative views of history and uses them to make very salient political points.

Ah, yes. The Mueller report’s findings of actual crimes being committed are exactly like the Nixon impeachment. Because neither actually happened.

And, let’s not forget CHIEF LEGAL ANALYST Jeffrey Toobin, who is very good at being not good at legal analysis. With takes like these, it is hard to see why anyone other than Toobin would be named a CHIEF LEGAL ANALYST.

Toobin is using the classic Elle Woods legal philosophy here. If you’ve ever seen the Reese Witherspoon movie Legally Blonde, then you know that “exercise releases endorphins, endorphins make people happy, and happy people don’t kill their husbands.” Toobin expands this legal theory into a custom analysis of Trump’s behavior during the Mueller investigation.

The media’s reactions to the release of the report will continue to be the most entertaining part of the day.

During the brief Q & A following Attorney General William Barr’s press conference this morning, CBS News White House Correspondent Paula Reid first pointed out that Barr’s comments were “quite generous to the President and his feelings and emotions. It just seems like there is a lot of effort – to go out of your way to acknowledge how this was difficult for him.”

Reid definitely had a bit of an edge in her voice and Barr immediately responded in kind.

Barr replied, “I’m not sure what your basis is for saying I’m being generous to the President.”

She then questioned Barr about his use of the word “unprecedented.”

Barr asked, “Is there another precedent for it?”

She answered, “No.”

He then responded, “OK, so unprecedented is an accurate description.”

Owned!

Reid then began to ask him if he was concerned that some might feel he was “trying to protect the president.”

Barr ignored her and went on to the next question.

Reid was simply the first to say what we will be hearing in a continuous loop for the next 24 hours. The Attorney General is protecting the President. Trump controls William Barr. He should recuse himself. And on and on.

Brace yourselves for this afternoon’s onslaught.

BARR: About That Connection Between Roger Stone and Wikileaks

Westlake Legal Group AP_17089574202768-620x391 BARR: About That Connection Between Roger Stone and Wikileaks william barr WikiLeaks Special Counsel Roger Stone republicans Politics Mueller report Front Page Stories Featured Story donald trump democrats Allow Media Exception

Roger Stone talks to reporters outside a courtroom in New York, Thursday, March 30, 2017. Stone, a longtime political provocateur and adviser to President Donald Trump, is being sued over a flyer sent to 150,000 New York households during the state’s 2010 election that called the Libertarian Party candidate for governor, Warren Redlich, a “sexual predator.” Stone says he had nothing to do with it. (AP Photo/Seth Wenig)

I think people of good will everywhere can unite behind the proposition that Roger Stone is a chancre on the human spirit. You can agree with that and still believe that he was abused by the Mueller investigation.

Apparently, Stone’s involvement in this whole drama was his attempt to establish some sort of backchannel to WikiLeaks to get documents hacked from the DNC or from Hillary Clinton to use for whatever nefarious purpose Stone could come up with. This interest in Wikileaks is what led directly to Stone’s indictment and the pre-dawn raid on his house that was totally not leaked by the FBI to CNN so they’d have a camera crew on site. (Anyone who believes the silly cover story put out by CNN, who didn’t even show its audience the respect of telling them a believable lie, is too stupid to come in out of the rain.)

As it turns out, even if Stone was trying to contact Wikileaks it was a big “so what?”

I think everyone knew that if the New York Times publishing stuff from Wikileaks that harmed America was great journalism, then Roger Stone publishing stuff from Wikileaks that harmed Hillary Clinton was not a crime. If the Russians hacked the DNC or Clinton and gave the resulting information to Wikileaks, using that information was fair game.

This further clouds Stone’s indictment. It looks like he was questioned about a non-criminal act for the sole purpose of contriving to catch him in something that could be called a lie and used to indict him.

Looks Like the Trump Tower Meeting Turned Out to Be the Big Fat Zero We Said It Was

Kremlin-linked lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya speaks to journalists in Moscow, Russia, Tuesday, July 11, 2017. Veselnitskaya admits she met with Donald Trump Jr. during the 2016 presidential campaign, but insists that she had no compromising information on Hillary Clinton to offer in contrast to what the email exchange released by Trump’s eldest son suggested. (AP Photo/Alexander Zemlianichenko)

One of the silliest facets of the whole Mueller investigation was the obsession by the left and by the Never Trump types with a meeting held on June 9, 2016, at Trump Tower. The meeting involved Jared Kushner, Paul Manafort, Donald Trump Jr., on behalf of the Trump campaign; Natalia Veselnitskaya and Rinat Akhmetshin who had asked for the meeting; and Rob Goldstone, Anatoli Samochornov, and Ike Kaveladze. Goldstone and Kaveladze acted as intermediaries to set up the meeting and Samochornov was the interpreter for Veslnitskaya.

The bait for the meeting was “dirt” on the Clinton campaign that allegedly revealed financial shenanigans. The switch was lobbying the campaign to remove sanctions on Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska. Deripaska was a client of Fusion GPS and Veselnitskaya and Akhmetshin were both Fusion GPS stringers.

Somehow, this entire meeting became part of the collusion hoax because it was somehow illegal for anyone to use opposition research materials provided from a foreign national in a presidential campaign.

Just joking. What you had here was Donald Trump, Jr., meeting with a couple of Russians who used a story about having evidence of financial corruption by the Clintons as a way to get a meeting to lobby for their real client. But RUSSIA IS NOT OUR FRIEND.

Attorney General Barr effectively put that to bed today. He said that there was zero evidence of any cooperation between anyone on the Trump campaign and the Russian government.

William Barr just finished up his presser. Wow. Impressive. The guy is cool and unruffled and totally controlled the event. Here are the highlights.

Obstruction

The big event was obstruction because there was no collusion and the people who pimped this for two years are going to look damned stupid if there was nothing. Borrowing language from the Special Counsel’s report, this is how Barr described the “obstruction.”

Funny stories here.

Reporter: why did you call it “unprecedented?” Isn’t that strong? Barr: Do you have a precedent? Reporter: No… Barr shrugs and goes to another question.

Dweebish reporter with a scraggly hipster beard: Why isn’t Mueller and his team here. This is his report. Barr: No, it is a report that Mueller submitted to me, it is my responsibility to decide what to do with it.

Reporter with bad haircut and roll of neck fat: Isn’t it improper for you to do this? Barr: No.

Collusion

He was asked if Mueller would testify before Congress:

More will come later but if this is what there is, this has been a huge waste of the nation’s time and resources.

The video is cued up at start of the presser.

Rep. Jerrold “Jerry” Nadler (D-NY-10). Screen grab via CBS – Face the Nation.

Per CNN, the Mueller report is coming and soon:

A copy of Robert Mueller’s redacted report will be posted on the special counsel website after it has been delivered to Congress.

A senior DOJ official said the report will be delivered between 11 a.m. ET and noon to Capitol Hill and lawmakers will receive discs.

While the media and politicos of all stripes draw conclusions before the report is released to the public, now is a good time to remind everyone about House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler’s change of heart on releasing redacted reports.

Jerry Dunleavy at the DC Examiner did a good write-up on this just a couple of weeks ago:

But back in 1998, as a member of the same committee, he vociferously opposed the release of the full Starr Report, saying that “as a matter of decency and protecting people’s privacy rights, people who may be totally innocent third parties, what must not be released at all.”

Then, the president was Bill Clinton. Now, it is a Republican, Donald Trump.

[…]

Ken Starr, the independent counsel investigating then-President Bill Clinton, delivered his report to Congress on Sept. 9, 1998. That night, Nadler went on Charlie Rose’s show to push back against the Republican demand that the voluminous report should be made public. “It’s grand jury material. It represents statements which may or may not be true by various witnesses,” Nadler said. “Salacious material. All kinds of material that it would be unfair to release,”

That was then, and this is now and Nadler has kinda sorta flip-flopped. From CBS News‘s “Face the Nation” on Sunday April 7th:

New York Rep. Jerry Nadler, the Democratic chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, said Congress is “entitled to see all” of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report, doubling down on his demand that the Justice Department provide his committee with the findings of the nearly two-year Russia investigation with no redactions.

“Congress has a right to the entire report with no redactions whatsoever so we can see what’s there,” Nadler said on “Face the Nation” Sunday. “We’re entitled to see it because Congress represents the nation. And Congress has to take action on any of it. So we’re entitled to see all of it.”

Nadler said he would go to court to obtain secret grand jury testimony that might be included in the unredacted report.

[…]

Nadler said the full disclosure of the findings of Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in U.S. elections and possible coordination between the Trump campaign and Moscow is necessary for the American public to judge Mr. Trump’s conduct — whether it amounts to impeachable offenses or not.

Watch Jerry Nadler argue with Jerry Nadler in the video clips below:

Ouch.
