Donald Trump is making China an offer it can’t refuse, so says Charles Lipson of Real Clear Politics. From the article

The U.S. can either accept Chinese protectionism, as Europeans and previous U.S. administrations have, or it can make them an offer they can’t refuse. The terms are obvious:

* Threaten China’s export-driven economy
* Make that threat believable and sustainable
* Offer China a reasonable deal
* Make it costly for China to delay, and
* Buttress the deal with tough enforcement mechanisms

And the money quote (emphasis, mine)

Trump is taking the Don Corleone option. He acted swiftly and ruthlessly when Chinese trade negotiators withdrew concessions they had already made in writing. On Friday, he more than doubled tariffs to 25% on some $200 billion worth of Chinese exports, with promises of more to come.

Cranking up tariffs that high in one fell swoop, is akin to putting a horse head in your opponent’s bed. Sure is nice to have a President who knows well and good, just which country’s interests he’s supposed to be looking out for. The world is taking notice. America is back.

As I covered earlier in the week, Georgia’s governor didn’t give a hoot about what Hollywood had to say in light of the state’s fetal heartbeat bill. He signed it just the same Tuesday, saying everything can’t be about money (please read more here).

In the aftermath of the abortion law, some companies are vowing to boycott shooting in the land of peaches.

The law, to be clear, prohibits abortions after a heartbeat is detected, which can be as early as six weeks. However, it does allow for exceptions: in order to save the life of the mother, or in the case of rape or incest. As for the latter, a police report must be filed.

That’s no good to people such as Alyssa Milano and Star Trek legend George Takei, who were very vocal in their opposition.

But now the deed is done, and we’ll see if Hollywooders keep their commitments the way they moved out of the U.S. post-Trump-election.

So far, five production companies are saying they’ll put their money where their mouths have been.

The Wire creator David Simon, head of Blown Deadline Productions, tweeted:

“I can’t ask any female member of any film production with which I am involved to so marginalize themselves or compromise their inalienable authority over their own bodies. I must undertake production where the rights of all citizens remain intact.”

And there’s the bubble.

David’s following the left-wing sleight of hand — which I discussed here — that all women are liberal, particularly when it comes to abortion. That idea is…what’s that word? Oh, yeah — goofy.

In truth, of course, David’s set to offend many pro-life women by boycotting Georgia.

CEO Christine Vachon tweeted Thursday that her company, Killer Films, will “no longer consider Georgia as a viable shooting location until this ridiculous law is overturned.”

Moving over to a man who once complimented Ben Shapiro and took a hide-tanning for it, Mark Duplass. His Duplass Brothers wrote just a day ago:

“Don’t give your business to Georgia. Will you pledge with me not to film anything in Georgia until they reverse this backwards legislation?”

The same day, producer Neal Dodson, of CounterNarrative films, tweeted an anti-Georgia promise:

“No Georgia filming on any of our projects until this law is gone.”

As noted by The Hollywood Reporter, the MPAA isn’t happy with Georgia, but it’s taking a wait-and-see attitude. So says Senior Vice President of Communications Chris Ortman:

“Film and television production in Georgia supports more than 92,000 jobs and brings significant economic benefits to communities and families. It is important to remember that similar legislation has been attempted in other states, and has either been enjoined by the courts or is currently being challenged. The outcome in Georgia will also be determined through the legal process. We will continue to monitor developments.”

As for the outcry, what’s the over-arching principle here?

Food for thought:

The Georgia law prevents abortionists from stopping a beating heart, and the Peach State is the 3rd biggest movie and television production market in the America. New York is #2. In January, it allowed its citizenry to murder infants seconds before they’re born. How many in Hollywood have given the Big Apple its walking papers?

Something to think about, if Hollywood wants to be the savior of the people…of women — including the ones who’ll be murdered just prior to their birth.

Covering the connection of DC politics and Hollywood entertainment as they contribute to our culture.

Quite a bit of ill-thought and incomplete concepts seemed to rule the week. We saw everything from journalists making incomplete conclusions and theories, to celebrities believing their feelings amounted to good ideas. Additionally, politicians tried to sell us on concepts that were…well, they came from a politician — not much more needs to be said.

There was also worldwide intrigue in Venezuela, Ukraine, and Palestine, and in keeping with the global theme we wondered just what in the world celebrities were thinking with their fashions at the Met Gala.

THIS WEEK’S THEME:Backstabber” ~ Eminem

  • More Manafort intrigue was floating around, leading to a parallel with the Steele Dossier — as Mueller was curious if Trump had Ukraine connections he ignored Hillary and the DNC actually HAVING those connections.
  • For some reason celebrities, who like to claim they are progressive, sure seem obsessed with a nearly 50 year old piece of legislation. They showing ignorance of the Constitution is merely a bonus.
  • The team of Talib & Omar continue to be a pure comedy act, as both ladies show both an allegiance to the Palestinians and ignorance of the facts.
  • At CNN Chris Cillizza was all in a dander over what Trump might do in 2020 in the form of denying he loses the election. At the same time Chris is unbothered that Democrats are CURRENTLY doing this from the last election, like Hillary, and Stacy Abrams, and Andrew Gillum, and…
  • Author Bret Easton Ellis has some choice words for Hollywood’s privileged set, and some less-than-choice critics were unhappy with this.
  • Speaking of CNN, their horrible ratings is leading them to cull the staff, by buying out contracts. Brian Stelter rushed to the scene to inform us: “These are not layoffs!!!” (Okay Brian, calm your nerves.)

TWITTER MOMENT OF THE WEEK
At the big Met Gala this week celebrities attempted to wear the most obtuse outfits they could for the cameras. One outlet found out that many of them managed to resemble items from the Target housewares catalogue.

Prior to the House Judiciary Committee vote to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt of Congress on Wednesday, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH)  delivered a scorching speech in which he told Democrats the unvarnished truth. They want to silence Barr before he exposes the whole conspiracy. Jordan said:

Bill Barr is following the law. What’s his reward? Democrats are going to hold him in contempt.

I don’t think today is about getting information. I don’t think it’s about getting the unredacted Mueller Report…I think it’s all about trying to destroy Bill Barr because Democrats are nervous he’s going to get to the bottom of everything. He’s going to find out how and why this investigation started in the first place.

Jordan laid out the entire case, starting with the failure of leadership at the FBI. He focused on Barr’s comment that “spying did occur” and that it may have been politically motivated. He told members:

He [Barr] said, there’s a basis for my concern about the spying that took place. And maybe the most interesting thing – two terms he used that frankly I find frightening – he said in his judgment that it looks like there might have been unauthorized surveillance and political surveillance.

During his speech, Jordan mentioned a comment Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer made to Trump during their first meeting in January 2017. Schumer had warned the President, “If you take on the intelligence community, they have six ways from Sunday of getting back at you.”

Jordan said:

I don’t know if the FBI went after Trump in six ways, but they sure went after him in two ways. One was the dossier…the FBI used one party’s oppo research to get a warrant from a secret court to spy on another campaign.

When they went to the court they didn’t tell the court important things like who paid for it, that Christopher Steele had said he was desperate to stop Trump, and they didn’t tell them that Steele had been fired by the FBI because he was out talking to the press.

Next Jordan talked about the FBI’s spying on the Trump campaign.

Second, just last Thursday, New York Times story, the FBI sent an investigator pretending to be somebody else to talk with George Papadopoulos who was working with the Trump campaign. You know what they call that? It’s called spying. Think about the term he used: Political surveillance.

When Jordan was asked to yield his time, he said, “I will not yield,” and calmly continued.

He spoke the truth and the Democratic members who appeared behind him in the video seemed rather bothered by it.

And, as we all know, the committee later voted to hold Barr in contempt by a 24-16 vote.

Watch the whole speech below.

Teacher Gives Student Private Transgender Lessons Without Telling Parents

Westlake Legal Group teacher-gives-student-private-transgender-lessons-without-telling-parents Teacher Gives Student Private Transgender Lessons Without Telling Parents transgender trans teacher student school parenting parent Gender Issues gender Front Page Stories Featured Story Family Education Allow Media Exception

Parents are suing a school district in Oregon after a teacher kept their eight year-old son in from recess for several days to educate him about being transgendered.

According to the Statesman Journal, the boy’s second-grade teacher saw him using a staff restroom and assumed that it was due to gender identity issues. In reality, the student has a medical condition so he was allowed to use the staff bathroom. Without asking the student why he was using that bathroom, or asking the parents for permission, this teacher took it upon herself to help the young child with the gender identity issues she incorrectly assumed he was working through.

According to the complaint, the teacher kept him back from recess to show him books and movies “in an effort to promote (him) becoming transgender.”

The Statesman Journal reports that:

The complaint also alleges the following:

In April 2018, without notifying the parents and without any authorization from the school district, the teacher began developing a lesson plan to help the boy understand what it meant to be transgender.

She then began keeping the student inside the classroom alone during recess at least three times to show him videos and teach him “it is acceptable to become transgender.”

These lessons included episodes of the reality television series “I Am Jazz” about a transgender girl named Jazz Jennings, books “I Am Jazz” and “Who are You? The Kid’s Guide to Gender Identity” and discussions on the difference between male and female body parts.

The books and show, which were recommended by an “unknown non-school employee transgender individual,” exposed the boy to sexual topics and sexual discussions, according to the lawsuit.

During the lessons, the student was not allowed to go outside for recess until he finished the videos or books.

At the end of the week, the teacher sent home materials to read and share with his family. It was only then that his parents became aware of what was happening at school.

“(They) were extremely shocked to find out that she would expose (their son) to various sexual concepts, such as the difference between male and female body parts,” the family’s attorney Edgar Diaz said in the lawsuit.

After the child’s parents complained, the school simply told the teacher to follow school policy about teaching controversial topics and let parents know if a child’s school schedule is going to be altered. They also reportedly discounted the issues the boy was now facing, saying “if this happened in Portland, it would not be a big deal.”

The lessons had lasting damage, according to the lawsuit. According to the report:

The boy became confused about whether he going to turn into a girl. He now shies away from playing with “girl” toys or playing “girl-related” games. He underwent personality changes, becoming more depressed, aggressive and isolated and now attends counseling.

“He has also become afraid of attending his current school, seeing (the teacher) and using the boys’ bathroom,” Diaz said in the complaint.

His parents have also struggled with anxiety, stress and depression following the incident.

While these incidents took place nearly a year ago, the child is still confused by them, his mother says. She told Fox 12 Oregon “Still today, a year later, if he plays with my niece, he’s a girl in that moment… if he plays with my nephew, he’s a boy.”

His father said that this isn’t about his son’s gender identity, it’s about the ease with which the teacher pulled him aside and shared confusing material with him that should have required parental consent. “He can be whatever he wants, I don’t care what he is. I just want him to be my happy son and I feel like she messed that up. It frustrates me that my son can be influenced that drastically, and nothing be done about it they just wanted to sweep it under the rug.”

The lawsuit is asking for $79,000 for counseling, medication, doctor’s appointments, and therapy as well as 920,000 in non-economic damages.

Title card courtesy of CBS Network

It has been a tumultuous couple of days in the production offices of the CBS primetime drama “Bull”. First came the announcement that the network was renewing the hit show for a fourth season run, and then almost immediately came a polarizing dose of bad news: Steven Spielberg, and his production company Amblin Entertainment announced he was pulling out of all commitments to the program.

The abrupt announcement is actually a long-brewing ordeal with the program, as the star of the program, Michael Weatherly (DiNozzo, from “NCIS”) has been accused in credible fashion of sexual harassment on the set. The story came to light in December, when co-star Eliza Dushku was found to have received a significant settlement from the network. The payout resulted when she revealed inappropriate behavior by Weatherly to the producers and had been subsequently written off of the show as a result.

Her story was an extension from larger issues at the network when the CEO Les Moonves was forced from his post for sexual harassment of his own. An independent legal team was brought in to investigate the network’s atmosphere of tolerating sexual harassment. This was proven out to a degree in the Dushku case.

After she had raised her concerns CBS lawyers brought in video outtakes from the set they believed would show that the actress was actually provoking the behavior. What the videos ended up doing is show Weatherly’s behavior in blatant fashion, proving Dushku’s case for her. The legal team was seemingly oblivious to what the star was doing, in their zeal to prove their case against her.

The reason for the delay in the announcement of Amblin’s exit is a matter of the scheduling of the TV seasons. The production company had completed season-3 development and was in a holding pattern regarding any upcoming commitment. Meanwhile, in March it was reported that Dushku had been in discussions with Spielberg and other leaders of the Time’s Up organization. Spielberg, and his wife Kate Capshaw have been ground floor supporters of the women’s rights group.

As of now there is a bit of limbo for the program going forward. The show is based somewhat on the earlier career of Dr. Phil, as a courtroom jury consultant. Dr. Phil’s company Stage 29 Productions is also behind the show, and may need to begin taking on more of the financial duties if no further backers step in.

The other problem is whether CBS will change its decision on the program’s renewal. The Dushku settlement case was a black eye for the network following the Moonves ouster. Keeping the series “Bull” on the air could also keep those stories alive, as the network is working hard to put those accusations to rest.

Police: Elderly Homeless Veteran Who Was Falsely Accused of Sexual Assault Dies From Revenge Attack

Westlake Legal Group police-862341_1280-620x438 Police: Elderly Homeless Veteran Who Was Falsely Accused of Sexual Assault Dies From Revenge Attack utah Sexual Assault Allegations Sexual Assault North Carolina law Front Page Stories Front Page Feminism Featured Story Featured Post Culture crime Allow Media Exception #metoo

A 16-year-old girl called her brother on April 23rd and told him she had been sexually assaulted by a 62-year-old man on a transit bus in Utah.

Her brother arrived on the scene a short time later and attacked the man as he got off the bus. The elderly man later died as a result of head injuries he sustained when he fell to the sidewalk after the attack.

As it turns out, police reviewed surveillance video and say the girl falsely accused the man, a homeless veteran, of attacking her:

About 6:15 p.m. that night, the girl made a sexual assault report to police.

“Logan Police detectives reviewed the video footage of the alleged assault,” police wrote. “The video showed Mr. [Michael] Fife walking past the girl, but no sexual assault occurred.”

Four days later, Fife died from his injuries, police wrote.

Police did not release the names of the teenage brother and sister because they are juveniles.

Here’s what the Logan City PD wrote on their Facebook page about the incident:

The victim’s son is trying to raise money to help pay for funeral expenses, and is thankful that the video footage cleared his father’s name of wrongdoing:

The victim’s only child, Michael Fife Jr., said he had no idea why this happened but is glad the accusation isn’t hanging over his father’s name.

“I don’t even know why he was being hit,” he said. “Something definitely needs to be done because this stuff can’t happen. I mean, especially over an allegation.”

A GoFundMe page has been established to help pay funeral expenses for Fife.

Its organizer asks people to “help lay big Mike to rest.”

“He cared a lot about people,” Fife’s son said. “He always greeted them with a smile and he was always a kind person to them.”

Since the #MeToo/Believe All Women era began, we’ve talked a lot about the sobering reality of how false accusations of sexual misconduct and/or assault can ruin a person’s life. In this case, false allegations and a warped sense of vigilante justice led to a man’s murder.

Prominent Democratic women like twice-failed candidate for president Hillary Clinton and 2020 presidential candidates like Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (NY) say women should be automatically believed when they make accusations of sexual assault. They are also on board with various feminist movements on college campuses across the country to strip accused young men of their right to due process.

This case is just one of many that provides a cautionary tale about the myth that women never lie about sexual assault and rape. Sadly, for the falsely accused in this instance, the consequences were deadly.

There’s no word yet from police on what charges the two teenagers could face as a result of their actions.

Cosmo Editor Confirms What We All Know – Men (Especially Doting Fathers) Can’t Win

Westlake Legal Group cosmo-editor-confirms-what-we-all-know-men-especially-doting-fathers-cant-win Cosmo Editor Confirms What We All Know – Men (Especially Doting Fathers) Can’t Win Royal Baby Prince Harry Motherhood meghan markle Front Page Stories Front Page Feminists Feminism Featured Post Fatherhood Cosmo Allow Media Exception

Numerous recent events have confirmed – yet again – what we already know about progressives: they are humorless scolds, and the sight of other people laughing or smiling or enjoying life sends them into a tailspin.

The worst tailspinners on the left are its feminist writers, who confirm every negative stereotype about women: they nag, they can’t decide what they want men (or even other women) to do, they lecture, and they completely lay into people they believe transgressed one of their laws (even if they didn’t).

When Prince Harry excitedly announced that his wife, Meghan Markle, had given birth to a son and expressed gratitude that everything had gone well, normal people around the world were happy for him. He was so visibly overjoyed (in stark contrast to his father’s Vulcan-ish demeanor) that only a completely and utterly miserable person would be able to stifle a smile.

He was almost jumping around like a school boy. Sporting a huge grin, Prince Harry said:

“I’m very excited to announce that Meghan and myself had a baby boy early this morning, a very healthy boy. Mother and baby are doing incredibly well. It’s been the most amazing experience I can ever possibly imagine. How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension, but we are both absolutely thrilled and so grateful to all of the love and support from everybody out there. It’s been amazing. So I just wanted to share this with everybody.

“It was amazing. Absolutely incredible. I’m so incredibly proud of my wife. And, as every father and parent would ever say, your baby is absolutely amazing. But this little thing is absolutely to die for, so I’m just over the moon.”

What sweet – and natural – sentiments from a first-time father who is filled with love for the woman who brought their child into the world and gratitude that he arrived without complications. Though it happens every day, when one stops to think about it, that two people have the ability to create a child is mind-blowing. Having just watched his wife give birth, experiencing intense pain and putting in a lot of physical effort (they don’t call it labor for nothin’), after carrying the child for nine months, Harry’s demeanor and reaction is exactly what one would expect from a father.

Two days later the Royal Couple appeared together with their son to announce his name. Harry, holding Archie, was again the doting father and obviously completely in love with his wife and child.

Naturally, the women on Twitter and other social media channels swooned over Harry the family man, a Prince Charming who’s devoted to his wife and son – and being a partner in parenting instead of leaving it to his wife or nannies, which should have made feminists very happy. He flies helicopters, is a man’s man, and not ashamed to giddily proclaim his love for his wife and child in front of the entire world.

Feminists should have been rejoicing, but, no. They’re miserable in their own lives, so no one else can be doing anything right. One Cosmo editor was so incensed by the praise Harry was receiving that she had to take the time out of her day write an op-ed titled “Prince Harry’s Show of Parenting is Not Worth Celebrating,” in which she belittled the new dad…

“To recap: Prince Harry has so far commended his wife on giving birth to a human child, and he’s also held his own bb spawn in front of a camera. I get it. Royal babies are so cute! So exciting! Cheeks!”

…then added a side of contradictory snark. After saying that what Harry did was NBD (no big deal), she moans that not enough men are doing it.

“But. Isn’t it sort of sad that these displays of parenting—but really, of being a dad—are still so unexpected and noteworthy that they inspire this much attention?”

No, no, no! That is not it at all. Women are wired to find this type of behavior attractive and to, well, “awww” over it. C’mon, “Party of Science,” this is biological!

That jab at all of the lesser dads was just the segue into her real point – since every mom isn’t as happy as Meghan Markle right now, dammit, we must remind everyone that there are victims to be coddled. The piece continues:

“Mothering, on the other hand, remains invisible. (Not to mention, expected.)”

Invisible? She’s obviously not inhabiting this planet. Motherhood, the natural feminine instinct, is routinely celebrated in our society. Despite the best efforts of “feminists,” women still have the innate longing to nurture and “mother.”

Even “old” men celebrate the feminine nurturing, maternal instinct, which is a critical part of a stable society…

…as Prince Harry intimated when he told a reporter that not having his mother there to bond with her grandson is “like missing some kind of security.”

Our intrepid Cosmo editor wasn’t done, though. She had to give a tip-of-the-hat to each of the 782 other genders, non-genders, and sexual orientations in her piece, because we must acknowledge all of the victims. (That’s sarcasm.)

“(By the way, none of this even begins to address how society views and treats queer and transgender parents, but that’s a whole other rant for another day.)”

She can’t really be blamed, though, for this depressing and completely unattractive worldview, since her days are filled with:

“…oversee[ing] a team of whip-smart editors and hilarious writers who bring you some of the best investigations on the internet, from dissecting the latest Kardashian drama to uncovering the link between white supremacy and misogyny.”

Poor Harry. He’s just trying to do what comes naturally, and unknowingly triggered the angry spinster mobs.

I am not defending Rod Rosenstein. He is duplicitous, cowardly and above all, self-serving. Worst of all, after having written a memo in which he outlined the reasons why former FBI Director James Comey should be fired, he turned around and appointed Robert Mueller to the special counsel after the deed was done. Moreover, I marvel at how rarely his role in the coup against the President is either discussed or written about by those of us on the right. Putting all of that aside for the moment, it was quite ironic to hear Comey’s discussion of Rosenstein with Anderson Cooper on Thursday night.

I think people like that, like Rod Rosenstein, who are people of accomplishment but not real sterling character, strong character, find themselves trapped. And then they start telling themselves a story to justify their being trapped which is, ‘Yeah, he’s awful but the country needs me.’

Comey also told Cooper that Rosenstein was “very bright, but not strong enough.”

The disgraced former FBI Director also disparaged Attorney General William Barr. He said, “He’s an accomplished and very smart person and who had nothing to lose in taking this job. But his reputation — it doesn’t make me happy to say this, but I think he has lost most of his reputation with the way he has conducted himself.” He added that Barr “continues to talk as if he’s the President’s lawyer.”

These remarks come on the heels of Comey’s op-ed in the New York Times last week in which he suggested, referring to Rosenstein and Barr, that proximity to “amoral leaders has a way of revealing the character of those around them. Accomplished people lacking inner strength can’t resist the compromises necessary to survive Mr. Trump and that adds up to something they will never recover from.”

Comey fails to see that he has just described his own fall from grace.

Many readers are familiar with the March 2004 Hospital Showdown story.

Then-Attorney General John Ashcroft, suffering from pancreatitis, was in grave condition at a Washington hospital and had appointed then-Deputy Attorney General James Comey as Acting AG during his absence. Robert Mueller was the FBI Director at the time.

Meanwhile, the Bush administration was seeking reauthorization of it’s warrantless domestic surveillance program, codenamed “Stellar Wind.” The National Security Agency (NSA) program was approved by President Bush in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks and had recently been “revealed by Thomas Tamm to the New York Times.”

Both Comey and Mueller believed that spying on Americans was illegal and wrong. When they heard that then-White House counsel Alberto Gonzales was on his way to the hospital to obtain John Ashcroft’s authorization for the program, Comey rushed to the hospital as well. Comey threatened to resign and Ashcroft supported him.

When Bush reauthorized the program anyway, despite the Justice Department’s conclusion that it was unlawful, Comey (again) threatened to resign—with Ashcroft, FBI director Robert Mueller, and other top officials reportedly ready to join him. Bush ultimately backed down, and the troublesome component was briefly suspended until it could be renewed under a different legal authority.

In 2004, Comey was willing to walk away from his job for what he believed in. Whether you agree with his position on the program or not, that was rather impressive.

Fast forward to 2016. Suddenly, spying on Americans was okay, if it meant defeating candidate Donald Trump. So was the exoneration of Hillary Clinton even if she had mishandled classified information and destroyed evidence which had been under subpoena, crimes that would cost ordinary Americans several years in prison.

Perhaps the proximity to the Clintons just ate up his soul in small bites.

So, what was it you were saying about lacking the inner strength to resist compromises Mr. Comey?

I want you to read something. Just… look at this tweet, and notice how you can’t help but smile.

I hope the Democrats are so eager to show the alternatives to President Donald Trump that they put all 18 on that stage. They gave their candidates two specific qualifications for making the stage in the first debate: they need at least 1% support in 3 polls from a pre-approved list of pollsters and they need campaign contributions from 65,000 unique donors, including 200 donors from 20 different states. The following 18 of 22 candidates officially qualify now:

Candidates who have qualified with 1% or more in at least 3 qualifying polls and who have 65,000 or more unique donors:

Candidates who have qualified with 1% or more in at least 3 qualifying polls:

Candidates who have not yet qualified:

At this rate, the first Democratic debate is going to be nothing short of lit, a slang term used by the youth of America to express how fun and exciting something is or will be. And, folks, this debate will be the definition of “lit.”

What makes this so beautiful is that the Democrats can’t go back and change the rules. If they do, they will look just as bad as they did when they screwed Bernie Sanders in 2016. They cannot afford that egg on their face again, because to do so would mean something worse than just keeping Sanders from winning. It would likely exempt a woman and/or person of color from getting onto the debate stage.

The Democratic Party cannot afford that. They have bought so heavily into identity politics, victimhood, and portraying themselves as champions of women and people of color that if they were to make sure, say, Beto got onto the stage and a woman like Marianne Williamson did not, they would have to contend with an already frothing base.

It’s not something they want to deal with. So, they can’t change the rules. Every single person who qualifies will have to be allowed onto the stage. Right now, that’s 18 different candidates, many of whom are openly espousing ideas they think will win but will scare the hell out of America’s moderate voter base. There is a reason that party leaders are privately cursing Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez while openly smiling and standing beside her. They know that what she represents, those same ideas that scare moderates, are the ones they want to introduce after they win the White House and take back the Senate. Embracing those ideas now scares away voters who might otherwise view Trump with skepticism and be open to voting for a Democrat.

But that’s not what many of these 18 candidates are doing. They are misreading the midterm elections and they are going to regret it. When your party’s candidates are motivated by the loud, frothing few instead of the desires of the silent majority, they will screw up.

As it stands right now, this only goes to help Trump. The Democrats aren’t unified, and 18 candidates on one stage will just be a ton of far-left noise. No one is going to see the appeal in that, and what’s worse is that, as it stands right now, you have to make the debate about four hours long just to accommodate all that noise.
