2020 presidential hope-to-be Joe Biden is letting the world know he’s just as cool as the cool kids, Daddy-O — and he ain’t into borders.

During a foreign policy speech Thursday, the former vice president said that, as Leader of the Free World, he’d be a Harlem Globetrotter.

Oh, wait — delete the “Harlem” part. Maybe he’ll add that when he campaigns in Chicago.

Joe vowed to “extend our presence around the globe.”

Is that really what we need?

Either way, borders aren’t nearly groovy. He’s hip, man.

In addition to slickin’ his hair with Vitalis and courtin’ coolness, Biden was, it seems, trying to paint himself as a world’s worth of different than Donald Trump. He noted that working with other nations doesn’t make America “suckers. Hence, he’ll “reimagine” our relationships with foreign entities.

I thought the Dems insist Trump is working with the Russians?

The erstwhile Obama official landed a direct hit on the White House:

“Working cooperatively with other nations to share our values and goals doesn’t make America, as it seems to imply in this administration, suckers.”

What does it do, Joe?

“It makes us more secure. Enables us to be more successful. We amplify our own strengths, extend our presence around the globe, magnify our impact while sharing the burden of leadership with our partners.”

We “share” the burden of leadership with other countries? I thought we’re autonomous.

Joe reached in his pocket and pulled out one of the most trite mechanisms in politics — the ol’ “this era demands it, like other eras didn’t”:

“No country, even one as powerful as ours, can go alone in the challenge of the 21st century.”

He messed up — when you make that statement in politics, it should always include “can’t afford” — as in, “We can’t afford to go alone…” Get with the program, Joseph.

But I’ll give him a pass. Albeit stale as a 10-day old doughnut, such a claim in the Washingtonsphere always posseses 2 virtues:

  • No one can argue that the past is exactly like the present, even if they don’t know what the #$%?! he’s getting at.
  • No one can really argue what the future doesn’t hold, because it hasn’t happened yet.

What does Joe think about borders?

I sense a stab at wokeness in an attempt to compete with his much younger Dem competitors in the race for the Oval Office. They want no borders (here, here, and here)? Okay, take a little bit of this! Ki-yah!

“I respect no borders and cannot be contained by any walls.”

Boom!!!! D*mn right!!

But is that what he was thinking when he voted in favor of 2006’s Fence Act (here)?

Here comes his imagination:

“As president, I will do more than just restore the historic partnerships. I’ll lead an effort to reimagine them, to better meet the challenges we’re grappling with today in the next 20 or 30 years, to keep NATO military capability sharp, while also expanding our capacity to take on non-traditional threats like weaponized corruption, cyber theft, new challenges in space and on the high seas.”

The high seas!

Big words. And, if I may say so — his boss pirate reference notwithstanding — generic.

I think Joe’s gonna have to do better.. Sure, he stands against cyber theft; but AOC puts on a cape (here) and swoops down to keep cows from farting (here and here).

And while she’s looking for a cork, Julian Castro’s giving free abortions to all of America’s pregnant men (here).

Long way to go, Joe. Long way to go.

-ALEX

Hollywood Billionaire Media Mogul Slams AOC On Israel And REALLY Dislikes Bernie (And He’s A Democrat)

Westlake Legal Group kushner-Saban-620x388 Hollywood Billionaire Media Mogul Slams AOC On Israel And REALLY Dislikes Bernie (And He’s A Democrat) Hollywood Haim Saban Front Page Stories Featured Story Bernie Sanders AOC

You may not know the name Haim Saban, but you’re familiar with his work. He’s the reason the West even knows about The Power Rangers. That’s how he made his money, in fact: on a business trip to Tokyo, Saban decided to bring the popular Japanese show Super Sentai to American audiences and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was born.

Saban became a billionaire when he merged with Fox Children’s Production to form Fox Family Worldwide and then sold his family of networks to The Walt Disney Co. for $5.3 billion. From there he and his wife Cheryl, who also have a major stake in Spanish-language news channel Univision, have given away $420 million to philanthropic causes because Haim, an avowed democrat who outgave even George Soros to help Hillary in her failed presidential election, is a Jewish immigrant from Egypt, first to Israel and then the U.S., and knows the sting of poverty.

And, as he surveils the 2020 democratic presidential field, he has a few choice words for New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders. Of Sanders he says:

“We love all 23 candidates,” Haim says, then pauses. “No, minus one. I profoundly dislike Bernie Sanders, and you can write it. I don’t give a hoot. He’s a communist under the cover of being a socialist. He thinks that every billionaire is a crook. He calls us ‘the billionaire class.’ And he attacks us indiscriminately. ‘It’s the billionaire class, the bad guys.’ This is how communists think. So, 22 are great. One is a disaster zone.”

AOC draws even more of his ire because Saban retains Israeli citizenship and is a former member of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). The IDF, in fact, is one of his favorite philanthropic targets.

Haim acknowledges that his mission has become more difficult in the current climate. “There is a certain tension [now], but is that tension something that was always there but not expressed? I don’t know. There’s a famous saying that anti-Semitism is a light sleeper, and it doesn’t take much to wake it,” he says.

Haim places some of the blame on Israel itself for “not doing a good job at clarifying to the American people the importance to the United States of that relationship.” But he takes particular umbrage with rising Democratic congresswoman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

“AOC made a statement: ‘There’s a massacre in Gaza,’ ” he says. “She was asked a question related to what’s going on between Israel and the Palestinians, and she said, ‘Well, I’m going to have to study this.’ So, here she made a statement that is pretty scary and pretty compelling but misinformed. Why don’t you go study and then make a statement?”

With that, Haim asks a staffer to bring over a framed quotation from Alexander Haig, Ronald Reagan’s secretary of state, to illustrate why Americans should support Israel. The quotation reads: “Israel is the largest American aircraft carrier in the world that cannot be sunk, does not carry even one American soldier and is located in a critical region for American national security.”

The Sabans have just given their names and $50 million dollars to the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, “the largest donation to the complex now rising on Wilshire Boulevard and scheduled to open in 2020.”

It’s fair to say they hold enormous influence in Hollywood. And they have no affection for two of the left’s most progressive candidates.

You may as well consider the field narrowed by two.

Barring President Trump From Blocking Twitter Accounts Opens a Lot of Interesting Possibilities

President’s Twitter Now Immune From Being Banned?

Yesterday, my good friend and fellow RedStater, Sister Toldjah, penned a very nice article, with just a touch of schadenfreude. It seems as though in losing a court battle regarding his Twitter account, President Trump may have just won the war. Here’s the immediate fallout: From the article.

After a federal appeals court ruled Tuesday on First Amendment grounds that President Trump could not block Twitter users, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) found herself on the receiving end of a couple of lawsuits on the same grounds. One is from a New York Democrat.

It’s nice to enjoy it when leftists are hoisted on their own petards. It’s even better when their tactical “victory” could possibly turn out to be a strategic route to the benefit of conservatives. Over at American Thinker, Dr. Thomas Lifson explains.

The latest in a long series of rulings by federal judges hamstringing moves by the Trump administration already is teaching a tough but obvious lesson to judges.  A precedent applies to everyone, not just to the specific defendant in the matter at hand.

Lifson goes on the explain that the most recent ruling by a Federal Appeals Court has essentially declared the President’s Twitter account to be a “public forum.” Further, because POTUS uses his Twitter account to communicate with the people regarding public policy, coupled with the fact that his account is open to that same public to comment, his account (emphasis mine) “warrants constitutional free speech protection under the First Amendment.”

Constitutional Free Speech Protection. It gets better.

Well, that makes Twitter, when used by a federal official, covered by First Amendment protections.  So much for the discussion that Twitter might suspend or close President Trump’s account, as it has done to many other conservatives’ accounts. Even better, it also enshrines the right of conservatives to respond to tweets by leftist elected officials.

Dr. Lifson notes, as did Sister Toldjah, within hours of the ruling, Representative Ocasio-Cortez was sued for blocking users on her Twitter account who disagreed with her. Permit me a small chuckle as I enjoy that comeuppance.

In closing, Lifson floats the possibility of a strategic win for conservative against the leviathans, Twitter and Facebook.

If responding to federal officials on Twitter is protected by the First Amendment, then why not make Twitter itself respect the First Amendment rights of conservatives who respond to elected federal officials?

“Twitter itself,” along with Facebook and every other public platform that has been shadow banning or using other nefarious methods to keep the conservative message from getting out, now stands the very real possibility of legal sanctions. Lawfare can be fun.

Pelosi: I called out AOC and her “Squad” because her office basically accused our centrist members of being segregationists

Westlake Legal Group e Pelosi: I called out AOC and her “Squad” because her office basically accused our centrist members of being segregationists The Blog squad segregationists progressive pressley pocan pelosi ocasio-cortez immigration Ilhan Omar AOC Allahpundit

So they did, Madam Speaker. So they did.

Pelosi’s patience is running thin, she noted at her press conference this morning:

“They took offense because I addressed, at the request of my members, an offensive tweet that came out of one of the members’ offices that referenced our Blue Dogs and our New Dems essentially as segregationists,” Pelosi said. “Our members took offense at that. I addressed that. How they’re interpreting and carrying it to another place is up to them.”

“But I’m not going to be discussing it any further,” Pelosi said. “I said what I’m going to say.”

This isn’t the first time a member of the “Squad” (or a member of their staffs) has accused the Democratic caucus of prejudice. AOC did it last night, of course, before disingenuously denying that she did. But Ilhan Omar beat her to the punch months ago, claiming that Republicans *and some Democrats* couldn’t stand having to treat a black Muslim immigrant woman as their equal. Go figure that Nancy’s getting tired of having her majority-makers in the center — and herself — impugned.

I have bad news for her, though. Justice Democrats, the far-left group that helped get AOC elected and which is trying to mount progressive primary challenges to other incumbent Dems, is doubling down on the racism charge:

This is like if the Tea Party Patriots had come after John Boehner and Paul Ryan not because they weren’t doing enough to cut spending but because they supposedly hated white people. It’s next-level nasty and destructive — and it’s amazing. “This is what we have lived our entire bloggy lives for,” Ed texted to me gleefully after seeing the Justice Democrats tweet. It’s true! “Thank you, God, for letting me live long enough to see the Dems have a big AOC-led fight over whether Pelosi’s a racist,” I tweeted last night when I saw Ocasio-Cortez’s quote about Pelosi targeting women of color in the caucus. We all thought Joe Biden would be the left’s prime Democratic target for racial McCarthyism this year, but it isn’t. It’s

Nancy
Farking
Pelosi

instead.

Instead of the next presidential primary debate, CNN should have AOC debate Kamala Harris on whether Pelosi or Biden is the more vicious geriatric neoliberal white racist.

I’m only half joking about that too. Warren Henry’s right that the presidential candidates will have a major say in whether Pelosi or AOC ultimately wins this battle for influence.

[A] broad swath of the establishment’s chattering class is effectively supporting the Ocasio-Cortez brand of politics, not only by defending her most ridiculous comments, but also by hyping almost any of the alternatives to Biden, chiefly Harris and Elizabeth Warren. Granted, the establishment media is less enthused about Bernie Sanders than in 2016, but this is largely because they believe more palatable versions of him are available. Notably, this faction of the media also dumped on Beto O’Rourke as a cisgender white male—traits he shares with Sanders and Biden.

In short, Pelosi has a gatekeeping power over the progressive caucus, while Biden is at the mercy of gatekeepers who prefer candidates aping the Ocasio-Cortez brand of identitarian socialist populism. The unanswered question is whether the media environment will also help convince the Democrats’ silent majority that they are in fact a minority.

The outcome of presidential primaries may greatly influence the feud in Congress, perhaps settling it outright. Once Democratic voters have chosen a standard-bearer, they will largely close ranks around that nominee.

If Biden gets stomped and the party nominates someone far-left, Pelosi’s claim that AOC and her progressive “Squad” collectively represent four voters will obviously be badly damaged. Damaged, but not completely undermined: While Ocasio-Cortez will point to the results of the presidential primaries as evidence that progressives deserve more influence in the House, Pelosi will point to the results of the midterms in 2018 and remind everyone that national presidential primaries mean little for localized House races. The purple-district centrist Dems who flipped red seats will still need to be protected — maybe more so than ever if the presidential nominee is far left, since Republicans will use that nominee’s politics against Dem House incumbents in swing districts.

We don’t need to overthink this now, though. We can just luxuriate in the other party’s bad faith and bitterness for a bit. What could be more enjoyable than watching the Democrats’ woke Frankenstein rise up off the laboratory table in which it was brought to life and start wrecking the room?

Devil’s advocate exit question: It *is* bad form for Pelosi to mock how little electoral support the “Squad” has, isn’t it? If you want to knock them for smearing their colleagues as racists, have at it. But to imply that they can be ignored when collectively they represent millions and Ocasio-Cortez is a media phenomenon unprecedented for a freshman member of the House is weirdly dismissive not just of the “Squad” but of their constituents. Boehner loathed the tea partiers in his caucus but I don’t remember him ever claiming that their support was negligible. Like it or not, Nancy, the woke brigades are a meaningful part of your base. Even if they’re not (yet) a majority.

The war of words between House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) definitely heated up today after provocative remarks the freshman Congresswoman made to the Washington Post complaining about Pelosi’s treatment of the Queenie Quartet went viral.

The Hill reports:

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) accused Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) of repeatedly singling out newly elected women of color in the House, saying that the veteran congresswoman’s criticism has become “outright disrespectful.”

Ocasio-Cortez made the remarks in an interview with The Washington Post late Wednesday after a day of heightened tensions between Pelosi and House Democrats.

“When these comments first started, I kind of thought that she was keeping the progressive flank at more of an arm’s distance in order to protect more moderate members, which I understood,” Ocasio-Cortez told the Post.

“But the persistent singling out … it got to a point where it was just outright disrespectful … the explicit singling out of newly elected women of color,” she added.

The “newly elected women of color” AOC is referring to are her BFFs Ilhan Omar (MN), Rashida Tlaib (MI), and Ayanna Pressley (MA).

Hours after the the report was published, Ocasio-Cortez backtracked by saying that, contra to what she told the Post, she did not think Pelosi was racist in any way:

So Pelosi is deliberately targeting WOC but she’s not racist? Oookay.

Daily Wire‘s Matt Walsh is siding with Pelosi on this one:

Good points. But if you’re inclined to feel sorry for Pelosi in this battle, don’t. What’s happening here is that Democrats are being hoisted by their own petards, and instead of being able to keep their focus on Republicans, Democrats are trading barbs with each other in a very public and embarrassing way.

It’s almost impossible to keep track of how often AOC, Tlaib, Omar, and Pressley have disingenuously played the “woman of color” card over the last several months in response to any and all Republican criticisms. Not only that, they won’t hesitate to insinuate that even the bare minimum criticism they receive puts them under “constant threat” (so shut up with your dissent!).

This is what passes for “substantive” debate with them. They want to talk and lecture while you shut up and listen – and conform.

That the leader of the pack has turned around and used the POC card against one of her own shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. Unlike with Pelosi, AOC is not in Congress to break bread in the interest of bipartisanship and getting things done. Her method of operation is Governing by Twitter. It’s her way or the highway – and if you dare cross her, expect her to go nuclear on you in response, and her social media cultists to respond accordingly.

AOC’s tirade has had the intended effect. It’s stirred up the Woke Mafia into voodoo dolling the House Speaker.

Much has been made of the in-party feud between Nancy Pelosi and the Fab Four Fresh Faces of the House — Alexandria, Ayanna, Ilhan, and Rashida — over the Pelosi-pushed border bill and a little thing called relevance.

The younger generation doesn’t respect its elders as did those of the past.

Still, I have to imagine Nancy Pelosi’s as shrewd as any in the political sphere, and she’s got talons that’d make those of the relative tykes look like puppy paws.

Despite AOC’s scratch —

— Nancy’s standing on the solid rock of seniority and stick-to-itiveness.

The “wall is an immorality” legislator (here) is doubling down on what she said to The New York Times. That would be, “[The four freshmen] have their public whatever and their Twitter world,” but “they’re four people and that’s how many votes they got” (here).

BOOM!

On Wednesday, she made her position clear to The Washington Post:

“I have no regrets about anything. Regrets is not what I do.”

I believe her. In all cases.

She also reaffirmed her dismissive remark that “four people vetoed for the bill”:

“Four people voted for the bill. That’s what I said. And no other people followed.”

Yikes. Yes, talons.

A new book by a Politico contributor reveals the Trump campaign’s reaction to the notorious Access Hollywood tape which spawned a million pink hats and a million mischaracterizations.

In American Carnage, Tim Alberta captures the moment top campaign officials learned of the tape and its contents:

Trump looked at [Reince Priebus], put the packet on the table, and slid it across. The party chairman began to read, the room now filling around him with the rest of the team. They had all seen it: an email exchange with Washington Post reporter David Fahrenthold, who claimed to have an old audio recording of Trump making exceedingly lewd remarks about women and boasting of his ability to get away with sexual assault.

I’d like to stop right there — that would be one of those million mischaracterizations.

To be clear, Donald Trump did not “[boast] of his ability to get away with sexual assault.”

Trump did, rather, say that women would “let” him grab them. That’s a very important distinction.

Back to the book:

Fahrenthold had sent over the alleged quotes and was requesting comment from the campaign for a story that would run later that day.

“Wow, this isn’t good,” Priebus said, his eyes fixed on a single line. “This is really, really bad.”

The group was paralyzed with silence. Finally, Kushner piped up. “You know, I don’t think it’s all that bad.”

“Jared, what are you talking about?” Priebus said, burying his head in his hands. “This is as bad as it gets.”

Tim asserts Trumps advisers held to hopes the claims were false. Those were, however, dasedh against the rocks of recorded reality when a copy of the tape was sent over.

Kellyanne Conway recounted The Donald’s surprise:

“It was a moment of humility and vulnerability. He legitimately did not remember saying that.”

As per Carnage, the exposure scooted away some members of the GOP establishment, and fear abounded that Mike Pence would disassociate as well.

But Donald was determined.

Not for a moment would Trump consider quitting the race. He was unmoved by the rebukes of the Republican lawmakers who were piling on with excoriating statements; most of them, he scoffed, were the same people who had opposed his candidacy from its inception.

For a hot second, the chronicle notes, New York’s most famed eccentric agreed to go beyond his apology video and give an interview to ABC in the name of damage control. He abruptly about-faced.

The book claims Trump’s clinching of the presidency came during the 2nd debate, at which he showcased Bill Clinton’s accusers and relentlessly obliterated Hillary over her email scandal.

It was, without question, the ugliest and most vitriolic presidential debate in the mass-communication era. And it was exactly what Trump needed. Facing pressure unlike any White House hopeful in memory, the Republican nominee didn’t just get off the mat; he came up swinging. It made all the difference. Within 48 hours the bleeding had stopped: Republicans ceased their calls for his withdrawal, Pence dutifully returned to the stump and his campaign went on as though nothing had happened.

“Went on as though nothing had happened” seems a fair assessment of Trump’s inimitable style and history. The man knows how to rebound.

Where the election’s concerned, Democrats haven’t seemed to possess the same.

That’s why, as I sit in Los Angeles writing this, I may well be within 1000 yards of a still-worn kitty cap.

During a New Yorker Radio Hour interview made public Tuesday, everyone’s favorite 29-year-old congresswoman bent on America following the economic regime of the Nazis said she’s open to eradicating the Department of Homeland Security.

According to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the W. Bush administration’s creation of the agency was an “egregious mistake.”

Perhaps the idea of removing it sounds radically unwise in a left-wing sort of way. And opposing a Bush directive has more than a fair shot at being partisan fluff; but conservative G. Gordon Liddy was never fond of W’s Patriot Act. So there’s that.

Witness:

“Because the core structure of ICE, I believe — and frankly the entire Department of Homeland Security — this was established by George Bush right in the wake of 9/11, right as the Patriot Act and all of these different institutions that were frankly very large threats to American civil liberties started to get established.”

So it’s just another way to accomplish open borders?

Could be.

Sometimes the problem with radicals is…they’re radical.

Host David Remnick asked for clarity — would she do away with DHS?

Her reply:

“I think so. I think we need to undo a lot of the egregious … a lot of the egregious mistakes that the Bush administration did.

“I feel like we are, at a very, it’s a very qualified and supported position, at least in terms of evidence, and in terms of being able to make the argument that we never should have created DHS in the early 2000s.”

So what’s the reasonable way to go about things? Apparently, it’s to make law about…harm. Alexandria explained that the government should get out of the business of detaining people. Unless, that is, they’ve hurt someone.

Sounds like you won’t have to pay taxes anymore. Or stop at stop signs if there’s no one coming. Or go through background checks to buy a gun. Or do any of the things called for by the Green New Deal.

Actually — if there are no taxes paid, there can be no socialism. Maybe she’s onto something.

But it also sounds like illegal immigration will no longer be illegal.

Check out the entire interview here:

Or better yet, enjoy some antics from nothing-if-not-interesting syndicated radio host, actor, author, and Mr. Watergate himself — George Gordon Liddy — below. Bonus: Liddy with Whoopi, and Don Rickles. Best of all: the “vigorous, virile and potent” Fear Factor contestant on Miami Vice. For more Gordon, here’s a link to the former FBI agent on The Opie Anthony show (I won’t embed, due to language).

Once you’ve enjoyed those, let us all know: Issues of illegal immigration aside, should the Department of Homeland Security be abolished? Could it be replaced by something better?

Megan Rapinoe: We’re willing to have a conversation with anyone — who believes in the same things we believe in

Westlake Legal Group mr Megan Rapinoe: We’re willing to have a conversation with anyone — who believes in the same things we believe in white house Trump The Blog pelosi ocasio-cortez Megan Rapinoe Equal Pay Congress bipartisan AOC

“I’ll only talk to people who agree with me” is pretty much American politics in 2019 in a nutshell.

By “believes in the same things we believe,” does she mean broad big-picture stuff like “America is great”? (Does Rapinoe believe that, actually?) Or does she mean “women’s soccer stars deserve the same pay as men even though their sport brings in a fraction as much revenue and they get a larger share of that revenue than male players do”?

No room for disagreement on that second point in the name of conversation, I assume.

They’re still a soccer team, right? They haven’t morphed into a political party?

As far as I know, they’re not yet planning to meet with any Republicans during their sojourn to D.C. to mug for the camera with the likes of AOC and Chuck Schumer. One very famous Republican did of course invite them to meet and was turned down, at least by Rapinoe. She says in the clip that she’s willing to meet with the “bipartisan Congress,” so we’ll see. Hopefully there are no more rejections of GOPers or else that “one nation, one team” shtick is going to ring a leeeetle hollow.

You know, I feel like I did my patriotic (or at least nationalist) duty with Rapinoe and the soccer team. I watched the tournament. I cheered for them. I shrugged off their bickering with Trump because, after all, if it’s a day that ends with “Y,” Trump is bickering with someone. I gritted my teeth and laughed through their obnoxious post-goal celebrations because succeeding wildly and be a showboating dick about it is pretty much the American dream. I don’t even object to Rapinoe’s partisanship, really: She’s a leftist but we write about leftists every day, so whatever. What got me about this CNN interview was the sheer exhaustion of getting another snoutful of embittered politics in one of the few realms left in which politics tends not to intrude, sports. A big snoutful too. I feel like I know more about Rapinoe’s worldview now, after five weeks of exposure to her, than I know about LeBron James’s after 15 years.

Are we almost done with this, then? She and the team were great, they deserve their parade today in NYC, she deserved every award she won at the World Cup, and I hope attendance for pro women’s soccer games quadruples because of it. Now can we get back to the daily Bob Mueller coverage in CNN primetime?

In lieu of an exit question, here’s Rapinoe shoving a little more politics into that snout of yours.
