Guess who Tim Kaine is blaming for the attack on Saudi Arabia?

Westlake Legal Group TimKaine Guess who Tim Kaine is blaming for the attack on Saudi Arabia? tim kaine The Blog Saudi Arabia refineries Iran Cruise Missiles CNN attack

I’ll give you three guesses and the first two don’t count. Wait… you still need a hint? It rhymes with “rump.”

Yes, Virginia Senator (and failed Vice Presidential candidate) Tim Kaine sat down yesterday with CNN’s John Berman to talk about the recent attack on a major Saudi Arabian oil refinery. Given all of the finger-pointing that’s been going on, surely he would be able to shed some light on things and offer a bit of clarity, right? Of course. And he quickly did, pinning the blame on Donald Trump for creating an atmosphere of war by continually “provoking” Iran with sanctions. (Free Beacon)

Sen. Tim Kaine (D., Va.) said during a Wednesday interview with CNN host John Berman that Iran’s recent attacks on Saudi Arabian oil fields were triggered by United States sanctions. Berman then wondered whether Kaine was “victim-blaming” by saying the attacks were provoked.

The exchange began when Kaine told Berman that he worries President Donald Trump will take military action to “protect Saudi oil,” which he said could begin a war that would be based on “fundamental mistruths.”

“What mistruths?” Berman said.

Kaine said that the United States is “provoking Iran” because of sanctions. He added that this was just the latest provocation in a pattern of United States aggression against Iran, most notably pulling out of the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement.

It goes on for quite a while from here, mostly downhill. Here’s the video of this rather remarkable exchange.

It’s tough to write this off as anything other than rampant Trump Derangement Syndrome. Or is Kaine getting a little past his best Sell By Date? He’s calling for us to “return to diplomacy” and stop “provoking” Iran with sanctions. But guess what? Sanctions are the diplomatic alternative to war. We’re putting economic pressure on them, not military pressure. That’s sort of the definition, Senator.

Of course, that White House isn’t doing itself any favors on this front when it comes to recent public statements. Pompeo called the attack an “act of war,” this week, which might not have helped matters. But it’s hard to knock the Secretary of State too much for simply stating an obvious truth. When you send a cruise missile over the border of a foreign nation and blow up some of their infrastructure, that’s pretty much an act of war.

Meanwhile, the Iranian Foreign Minister was on CNN when I got up this morning and he was totally beclowning himself. He was denying any Iranian involvement in the attack and trying to blame it on the Houthi rebels in Yemen. Thankfully the journalist doing the interview had the spine to ask him the obvious question. Where in the world would the bedraggled Houthis get their hands on a cruise missile?

And even if they did, how would they launch and control it? We’re not talking about a truckload of shoulder-fired Stinger rocket launchers here. Firing and controlling a cruise missile requires some massive supporting infrastructure. Iran has those capabilities and right now they’re just flipping the bird at the entire world. If Tim Kaine is looking for someone to blame, perhaps he should have a chat with the Iranians.

Man Is Assaulted by Portland Mob Over His MAGA Hat

I’m losing count of how many instances we now have of someone being verbally or physically assaulted because of their support for President Donald Trump.

According to the Daily Caller, a man named Luke Lenzner and his wife entered Growler’s Taproom in Portland, Oregon, after midnight. According to Lenzer’s testimony, not long after he and his wife were sat down on the patio, he was attacked with a sucker punch by a mob who surrounded him on all sides:

“I got mobbed by everybody that was in that bar outside. People came from the inside out — just circled me and my wife,” Lenzner said, according to FOX 12. “Surrounding me, like literally surrounding me, pushing me. I’m just trying to get through, trying to stop the person from hitting me, from taking my hat, and then I get sucker punched.”

Police arrived at the scene around 12:50 a.m., and discovered large bruises on Lenzner’s face, prompting a manhunt for those involved with the assault. Officers were able to locate two individuals in their 20s that they say were involved with the Saturday morning violence Portland Police told The Daily Caller.

Two individuals in the mob were arrested and charged. Leopold Hauser, 22, and Adebisi Okuneye, 23, were booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center for third-degree assault.

According to a bartender at the location, Lenzner may have started the fight himself by “pointing to his hat,” though how this should start a fight is beyond me.

Some may say that Lenzner knew what he was doing when he wore a MAGA hat in public in Portland, and while I can’t deny that Lenzner knew the dangers, it doesn’t excuse the fact that people are being attacked physically for their support of Trump. Intentional or not, the fact that Lenzner can incite violence — if he did incite it at all — by simply wearing a hat that says “Make America Great Again” says more about the state of our political discourse and the radicalistic infection of Portland.

Apparently, Democrats are allowed to attack the media without penalty

Westlake Legal Group SandersBernieGrimace715Editd Apparently, Democrats are allowed to attack the media without penalty the Fourth Estate The Blog Mainstream Media journalism Jeff Bezos donald trump Bernie Sanders attack

Well, perhaps not entirely without penalty, but the descriptions we’re seeing in response to Bernie Sanders’ recent accusations against the Washington Post certainly represent a change in tone from when the Bad Orange Man says mean things about the press. So where did this come from? It turns out that Sanders, along with other Democratic 2020 hopefuls are unhappy with some of the coverage they’ve been receiving and are, in some cases, blaming the press for their poor showing in the polls. But Sanders goes several steps further, building a conspiracy theory involving Jeff Bezos. (The Hill)

The Democratic presidential contenders are letting loose with a barrage of attacks against the news media, ripping national outlets for what they view as biased coverage of their campaigns or unfair double-standards in covering President Trump.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is leading the way, making his grievances with “corporate media” central to his anti-establishment campaign.

The Sanders campaign took it up a notch this week, calling out CNN and NBC by name, and making the case that The Washington Post is covering Sanders negatively because he’s been critical of the newspaper’s billionaire owner, Jeff Bezos.

As The Hill goes on to note, it’s not just Sanders. Biden’s spokesperson was lashing out at everyone in the press corps for “focusing too much attention” on his endless parade of verbal gaffes. (Sorry, Uncle Joe, but that’s actually news.) O’Rourke and Castro both accuse the press of not going after Donald Trump hard enough on charges of racism. (Seriously? Do you own a television?)

To be fair, CNN objected, if a bit more softly than they do when Trump lashes out at the press. (Free Beacon)

CNN anchor Poppy Harlow pronounced herself “surprised” at Sanders’s language, and likened it to President Richard Nixon saying on tape that he didn’t want Post reporters at the White House.

“This is a very serious claim against the Washington Post, with no evidence, and it is echoing what the president says,” Harlow said.

CNN’s Chris Cillizza, who formerly wrote for the Post, called it a “ridiculous claim.”

So there was that. But you can notice a pronounced difference in the tone, right? When the President talks about fake news, he’s accused of undermining the Constitution and threatening the future of the world. Sanders’ remarks are “surprising” and “ridiculous.” Trump gets compared to Hitler. Sanders draws a Nixon reference.

Of course, the complaints being raised are rather different as well. Some of the bottom-tier Democratic contenders are primarily angry that they don’t get as much attention as the frontrunners, blaming the press for their inability to break out. When Donald Trump complains, he’s usually talking about press outlets getting things wrong, focusing on unprovable topics like the endless Russia, Russia, Russia investigation and the endless negative spin applied to him.

Sanders, on the other hand, is quickly moving into tinfoil hat territory, accusing Jeff Bezos of making the WaPo attack him because of his criticism of Amazon. He also accused Jake Tapper of adopting “Republican talking points” for the crime of asking him how he planned to pay for his Medicare for All scheme. This sort of media attack strategy probably appeals to Bernie’s base, who see him as the outsider fighting “the establishment.” But he’s going to have to win over a lot more than that crowd if he wants to catch Joe Biden.

Trump fan: I was attacked in New York City for wearing a MAGA hat

Westlake Legal Group ma Trump fan: I was attacked in New York City for wearing a MAGA hat The Blog teens NYPD New York City make america great again Jahangir Turan gallery attack assault Art #MAGA

Caution is always in order with a claim of hit-and-run political violence, as attention-seekers have been known to fabricate such things for their own personal or ideological reasons. As I’m sure you know.

This guy, however, is clearly not fabricating his injury unless he’s a Hollywood-caliber FX artist. “Gruesome” isn’t too strong a word to describe that eye.

He says he was targeted by a group of teenagers shouting “f*** Trump” at him.

Jahangir “John” Turan, 42, says it happened Tuesday evening on Canal Street. He was wearing the MAGA hat that he had purchased earlier in the day at Trump Tower.

“I love President Trump. I think he’s doing a great job,” Turan said.

He says the group of about 15 “kids” yelled “F*** Trump” and stomped on him. One of them smashed his head into a scaffold. Turan says he suffered a fracture in his cheek and a badly swollen eye. He’s awaiting an eye specialist to determine if there is any permanent damage to his sight.

“One girl flipped my hat, and then within five, eight seconds, I got pushed from the back and my face hit the scaffolding pole,” he told reporters, adding that the teens were “chanting anti-Trump stuff.” No arrests have yet been made because, he says, everything happened so fast that he couldn’t provide a detailed description of his attackers. The most remarkable part is when and where Turan says it took place. It wasn’t at 2 a.m. in a back alley somewhere. It happened at a little before 7 p.m. on Tuesday night as Turan was walking along Canal Street near Greene Street. If you don’t know lower Manhattan, pull up a map online and see for yourself where that is. It’s two blocks away from the subway station, near the Sheraton Hotel and the post office. It would have been broad daylight, in rush hour, with people around.

Are there no witnesses or surveillance videos? Clearly the guy’s been severely injured. Also, per the Post: “Police confirmed Turan filed a police report but only said he was attacked by a man who punched him in the head and fled. He did not provide details about any statement the suspect may have made, nor that he was wearing a MAGA hat at the time, police said.” Why’d he leave out those details when reporting the incident to the cops?

I wonder if Trump’s going to pick this up and get on his nemesis, Bill de Blasio, for it. Stay tuned.

Kamala Harris Got Wrecked Last Night at the Dem Debate

Westlake Legal Group kamala-harris-620x317 Kamala Harris Got Wrecked Last Night at the Dem Debate tulsi gabbard Rekt Politics paper tiger kamala harris Joe Biden Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story democrats Democratic Debate criminal justice Brutal attack 2020 election

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., speaks during the Democratic primary debate hosted by NBC News at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, Thursday, June 27, 2019, in Miami. (AP Photo/Wilfredo Lee)

Kamala Harris is an interesting political case. Not because she herself is actually interesting, but because of how she’s been so totally manufactured as a candidate. She is consistently painted as prize fighting politician in the media, always just on the prefaces of taking over the Democratic primary. In reality, she continues to languish in fourth place.

Take this comment after the debate last night from Van Jones on CNN.

What has Kamala Harris done to show that she’s so vicious that no one can “lay a glove on her?”

If you’ll recall after the last debate, her myth only grew, with many pundits predicting she’d overtake Joe Biden. Even the gambling sites were convinced, placing her at the top of the odds to be the nominee.

Here’s what I wrote at the time in response to all the hype.

With all due respect to the top oddsmakers, that’s incredibly stupid. Debates rarely have such an dramatic effect so as to boost someone languishing in the mid single digits above a guy who’s pushing 40%. In this case, it was a 2 minute exchange. Harris did not dominate the rest of the debate and actually may have alienated some voters by tacking so far left.

Harris, despite all the media fawning and selfies with Mika, is still a sucker’s bet at this point.

It’s all fun and games when it’s a layup on racial issues and Harris gets to savage a barely lucid Joe Biden. Things get tougher when the attacks start coming back at you though and that’s exactly what happened last night.

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, mostly known for her controversial views on Bashar Assad, is playing a role similar to Chris Christie in 2016. She knows her chances are extremely low so the plan is not to take down the frontrunner but to make herself attractive as an official in a Biden administration. That means going after someone like Harris and Gabbard did it masterfully in front of 10 million people.

I highly encourage you to watch the clip. You aren’t going to get a sense of how bad it was unless you do. Here’s a description though, via The Washington Examiner.

Clearly, Gabbard had done her homework, and she absolutely dragged Harris for her abysmal record as California attorney general. During her time in office, Harris took draconian stances on issues of criminal justice, enforcing such merciless policies and displaying such ruthless ambition that “Kamala the cop” has become a common criticism of the candidate.

Gabbard attacked Harris for having locked up thousands of people for mere marijuana possession and laughing about it when asked whether she had smoked pot herself. The congresswoman piled onto Harris, adding on a reference to her office’s shameful move to keep people locked up to preserve “cheap labor for the state of California.”

This is all true, and here are the receipts. But Gabbard didn’t stop there.

The Hawaii congresswoman also called out Harris for the fact that while attorney general, she fought to keep people incarcerated despite exonerating evidence and fought to preserve the unfair system of cash bail.

Gabbard hit Harris on all points, including her targeting of parents for truancy violations of their children. While those of us on the Republican side may actually agree with some of Harris’ tougher stances before she tried to paint transform herself into a social justice warrior, the point here is political, not ideological. In a Democratic primary, what Gabbard did was brutally effective. The left’s views on criminal justice are getting more and more radical by the day.

The image of “Harris the cop” is not the meme the former California AG wants floating around. It’s like nails on a chalkboard to most of the Democrat base.

Another thing this attack did was shield Biden from one of his biggest weaknesses, that being that he was not a crazy person in the 90s and supported measures to bring down skyrocketing crime rates (which worked BTW). Harris has tried to go after the former VP on that at times, but with her record so thoroughly vetted on national TV, there’s noway she can do so now without inviting a much stronger counter punch.

Harris was exposed last night. She’s mechanical, way too rehearsed, and is deeply unlikable. A consummate politician, and I mean that in the most negative connotation. Tulsi Gabbard is not a heavy weight herself, but she left Harris stammering last night, unable to respond in any effective fashion.

I haven’t bought into Harris from the beginning and nothing I saw last night has changed my mind.

So the Molotov Man was Antifa (and a “hero” to some)

Westlake Legal Group VanSpronsen So the Molotov Man was Antifa (and a “hero” to some) Willem Van Spronsen washington state The Blog police shooting molotov Immigration and Customs Enforcement attack antifa

This is my shocked face.

What were the odds? The maniac who tried to burn down and blow up an ICE detention center in Tacoma yesterday (and wound up being “iced” by the police) was an Antifa member. And we’re not talking about someone vaguely “connected” to the movement. Willem Van Spronsen proudly proclaimed himself to be Antifa. Also, this was not his first run-in with the law at that same detention center. (Seattle Times)

A protest outside the federal immigration detention center in Tacoma last year drew headlines when a 68-year-old man wrapped his arms around a police officer’s throat and shoulders in an apparent attempt to free another protester.

When police got the man into handcuffs, they found a collapsible baton and knife in his pocket, leading to criminal charges.

Early Saturday morning, that man, Willem Van Spronsen of Vashon Island, returned to the Northwest Detention Center, the holding facility for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, this time armed with a rifle and incendiary devices, according to Tacoma police.

Police said Van Spronsen tossed lit objects at vehicles and buildings, causing one car fire, and unsuccessfully tried to ignite a propane tank.

Perhaps not surprisingly, a number of left-wing nutjobs were immediately singing Van Spronsen’s praises, identifying him as a “hero.” The Daily Caller has a list, but here’s one account that definitely seemed impressed.

And, like nearly all politically driven maniacs, Van Spronson had a manifesto, of course. It’s pretty long and incoherent, but here’s a photo of it.

The media is still treating this as almost a local news story, and we’re not seeing much of anything in the way of “deep analysis” of the attack. But if they did show any such interest, particularly as to how Van Spronsen was “radicalized,” you don’t need to look much further than the manifesto. He refers to ICE detention centers as “concentration camps.” In fact, he uses that phrase nearly a half dozen times. This is straight out of the playbook of AOC’s crew and several of the 2020 candidates as well.

So where are all the warnings about “incendiary language” and incitement leading to violence? Or does that only apply if someone is deemed “right wing” these days? Nevermind… I think I just answered my own question.

Hot tip: If you throw Molotovs, the police will probably shoot you

Apparently, this isn’t the type of story the media likes to talk about very much. A guy showed up at an ICE detention center in Tacoma, Washington yesterday, armed with a rifle and a duffle bag full of Molotov cocktails and other improvised “incendiary devices.” Needless to say, he wasn’t there to help with their lawn care. After the literal fireworks began, police showed up on the scene. How the encounter precisely played out isn’t clear yet, but the Molotov man wound up at room temperature. Fortunately, none of the responding officers were injured. (Daily Beast)

A man who was allegedly armed with a rifle and throwing Molotov cocktails at an ICE detention center in Tacoma, Washington was killed by responding police officers on Saturday, police said.

Tacoma Police responded to the Northwest Detention Center, a privately run detention facility that holds migrants, at about 4 a.m. on Saturday after an employee called about an armed man outside, authorities told The Daily Beast.

The Washington state man, who has not been publicly identified, was armed with a rifle and throwing “incendiary devices” at the building and nearby cars, setting one on fire. The incident comes one day before ICE agents are expected to carry out mass raids around the country in an effort to round up undocumented migrants.

The officers have been placed on administrative leave with pay while the incident is investigated, as is standard practice in lethal force encounters.

This should really go without saying, but before anyone starts unloading on the cops we should deal with a dose of reality. I don’t care if you are a nutjob with a right-wing political agenda, a nutjob with a left-wing ax to grind, or just a random nutjob with some screws loose. If you show up at a government building with a rifle and incendiary devices and begin torching the place, the cops are going to be there quickly. And if you don’t comply with their instructions, they will shoot you. This guy had burned up at least one car, set fire to a couple of buildings and was attempting to detonate a large propane tank. What did he expect was going to happen?

If you didn’t hear about this, it probably shouldn’t be too surprising. Yes, there are a couple of headlines in the major newspapers and I did see a few segments on CNN covering it. But at least from the pieces I watched, they were almost entirely who, what, where, when stories, absent any great degree of analysis and discussion. I wonder why that is?

Every time some whacko with a MAGA hat so much as takes a swing at someone, we’re treated to hours of endless analysis about how Donald Trump’s violent rhetoric is inspiring people to do harm. But now, after elected Democratic officials, including some presidential candidates, have spent weeks and months vilifying Immigration and Customs Enforcement, accusing them of running concentration camps and demanding that they be shunned by polite society, I take it we’re forbidden from wondering if all of that rhetoric had anything to do with this jackwagon trying to blow up an ICE detention center.

Seriously, folks. Aside from a couple of new polls dropping, a brief blackout in New York City, and some flooding down south, there wasn’t all that much news breaking this morning. And yet I don’t think CNN has spent more than ten minutes total on this attack since I turned it on at six o’clock this morning. Where’s all the deep, penetrating analysis?

Democrat Representative Accuses Former ICE Director of Racism in Hearing, It Doesn’t Go Well

Earlier this morning, my RedState colleague streiff shared a verbal beatdown by former ICE Director Tom Holman of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. I won’t spoil it if you haven’t seen it yet, but once you are finished here, go watch it and enjoy. Trust me, it’s worth the time.

Holman wasn’t done embarrassing know nothing, grandstanding Congressional members though. Rep. Jesus Garcia (D-IL) decided it’d be a good idea to spend his questioning ranting about how Holman doesn’t care about kids that aren’t the same color as him, because charging racism is all these people have.

It didn’t go well.

Garcia rants about internment camps, asks Holman if he has kids, accuses Holman of racism toward children, and then asserts that Holman was purposely harming immigrants because that’s the state of political discourse coming from the Democratic party right now.

Make sure you watch until the end, as Holman is inexplicably shut down by Cummings at first after Garcia was allowed to make his disgusting comments unabated. Funny how Cummings never gets animated or cares about keeping time until it’s someone like Holman trying to respond to the deranged rantings of a Democrat on the Committee.

After a Republican Congressman points out that it’s ridiculous to not be allowed to fully respond to the string of slanderous “questions” pointed at Holman, the former ICE Director unloads again. Here’s the second part of his response.

“I’ve saw many dead bodies coming across this border. And you want to talk about the memo, this memo’s one option to stop death. Not just enforce the law, to stop death. If you want to legalize illegal immigration, good luck with that, because it’s going to get a hell of a lot worse on that border if you say “from now on there will be no consequences, no deterrents, it’s not illegal to come to this country illegally, more families will come, 31% of women will be raped, more children will die. We are a nation of laws. If you don’t like it sir, change it. You’re the legislator, I’m the executive branch and I’ve served my country honorably for 34 years and I will not sit here and have anybody say that I don’t care about children because they’re not the same color as my children.”

Holman is making an argument I’ve made many times on this site. Emotional appeals for open borders are nonsensical. They feel good but they simply put thousands of more people in danger. The more you incentivize illegal border crossings, the richer the cartels get, the more women are raped, and the more children die on the harsh journey. Is that humane? Of course it’s not. It’s irresponsible and harmful. Unintended consequences are not wiped away because a bunch of liberals get good feels from talking about not enforcing immigration laws.

The dishonest garbage that surrounds this debate is sickening. Holman served this country for 34 years as a police officer and at the border. He knows far more about this situation than some grand-standing Representative from Chicago who’s nowhere near the border and has no idea of the challenges they face, nor how to fix them. The accusations of racism have grown tired and no one is buying this anymore.

While Democrats may look at this exchange and think they scored points, voter attitudes on illegal immigration are actually shifting in Trump’s favor. As I wrote recently, a full 67% supported asking about citizenship on the census. When every Democrat endorsed free healthcare for illegal immigrants at the first primary debate, polling showed a majority against them. A majority are also against decriminalizing the border because that’s an obviously illogical, idiotic idea that would cause further chaos.

The President and Republicans need to stay the course here. Not for political reasons alone, but because it’s the right, humane thing to do. Open borders will only lead to more rapes, more deaths, and richer drug cartels. In the meantime, it’s good to see someone like Holman stand up to what was clearly a disingenuous accusation of racism. I have a feeling Cummings won’t be allowing him back to testify.

Andy Ngo: I’m having cognitive issues due to the severity of that attack by Antifa

Westlake Legal Group an Andy Ngo: I’m having cognitive issues due to the severity of that attack by Antifa The Blog Portland lawsuit injury fox news CNN attack assault antifa Andy Ngo

You won’t doubt him after listening to him speak here. He doesn’t sound good.

He describes what he’s going through as “cognitive hiccups” but that risks minimizing the extent of it. Last night he told Tucker Carlson that he suffered a brain hemorrhage, so badly was he beaten. Some of his attackers used objects. Asked to estimate how many there were, Ngo could only guess from five to … 20.

A full-on mob assault on a bystander, in broad daylight in a major American city, with the local “justice” building that houses the sheriff’s office within view, according to Ngo.

Some people are dogging CNN for the awkward phrasing of that tweet (Ngo “says” he was assaulted) but I don’t think they meant to cast any doubt. They put him on the air, they showed footage of the assault, and anchor John Berman ended the segment by emphasizing how important it is for journalists to be safe when they’re reporting. They’re not trying to minimize what happened. Or at least, Berman isn’t.

With some of the other anchors at CNN, you never know.

The piece you’ll want to read about this today is C.K. Bouferrache’s account of what happened. Bouferrache was at the Antifa rally side by side with Ngo and photographed the violence directed at him, first starting with milkshakes thrown and then progressing to a beating. (Bouferrache is skeptical of reports that cement had been added to the milkshakes, for what it’s worth.) You sense from reading it that Antifa used the milkshakes to see how much the cops would let them get away with. Having twice assaulted Ngo with impunity by throwing liquid in his face, it was a logical next step for them to scale up to an all-out mob attack. They didn’t harass every reporter there either, says Bouferrache. Journalists who are friendlier to the group’s brand of fascism apparently got away unscathed. That’s a useful rebuttal to people (like me) who wondered why coverage of Ngo’s assault has focused on his role as a journalist rather than as an innocent bystander. Answer: Because Antifa seems to have focused on it. Either some of them recognized Ngo for his unflattering coverage previously or, perhaps, they just didn’t like the questions he was asking at the rally.

As for the police:

I asked the police to arrest the [first] person [who threw a milkshake at Ngo], as I could identify him if they came with me at the time. They said they could not safely go in to the park but would take copies of my photos for the report. Later, I saw a video of the same man hitting a bystander in the back of the head with a bike lock, resulting in a serious injury…

Above shows the immediate aftermath of the second milkshaking (assault). It’s Andy and the person who assaulted him. I gave chase as well to get another photograph and let the police know it had happened again. They gave the same response as above. Andy made a second report and went back in.

The cops don’t own the streets of their own city. Make sure you read to the end of Bouferrache’s piece or else you’ll miss the shot of the droogs clad head to toe in black with their faces hidden under motorcycle helmets, obviously clad for battle, and the ER shots of another man who had his scalp split wide open in two places. That guy wasn’t even at the rally, it seems. He was downtown for another event, then went to help a third person who’d been attacked when he himself was jumped from behind by at least three people. The weapon of choice in this case may have been a bike lock.

Someone’s obviously going to be killed at one of these rallies, possibly Ngo if he shows up again. And the blood will be on the hands of the mayor and the cops who’ve now received ample notice that they have a major gang problem on their hands and seem unwilling thus far to do anything about it. Here’s Ngo with Carlson last night.

More on Portland’s Mayor’s epically bad explanation of Antifa attacks

John wrote about this last night, but having had some time to digest it, Mayor Ted Wheeler’s “explanation” for the riots on Saturday is too awful to let it slide. First, a brief review.

Ever since Antifa showed up at a rally in Portland on Saturday, beating down several people and sending photojournalist Andy Ngo to the hospital, questions have been raised. Where were the police? Why wasn’t there more of a law enforcement presence on the scene? And perhaps most of all, where was the Mayor? He’d been awfully silent, considering what a disaster he had on his hands. Finally, as John noted, more than two days after the rioting had ended, Mayor Ted Wheeler broke his silence… sort of. Since this is 2019 he decided to bravely offer his “explanation” on Twitter. In case you missed those tweets, here they are again in all their nonspecific, rambling glory.

Well, that’s just lovely. First of all, Antifa never shows up to “exercise their First Amendment rights.” They show up to physically attack people whose opinions they don’t approve of. They don’t throw around rhetoric. They throw punches and Molotov cocktails.

Also, when you say you “stand against all forms of violence,” there is no need to follow that phrase with anything. By adding “regardless of someone’s political leanings” you’ve delivered a clear dog whistle to Antifa. What you’re actually saying is that you sympathize with the idea that the Proud Boys (and apparently journalists as well) are in need of a good beating, but you sadly can’t allow it in the streets of your city.

And what was Wheeler trying to say with this remark? “Portland police officers have the unenviable task of keeping the peace. It’s a difficult job and hard decisions are made in real-time.”

The “unenviable task of keeping the peace?” That is literally the definition of what the police do. And while the job can certainly be challenging at times, it’s leadership’s responsibility to make those hard decisions. One of those decisions would have been to deploy the police to the scene of the rally, particularly after it became obvious that Antifa was on the prowl. Where were the cops? Wheeler is busy “explaining” what happened, but he’s yet to say a word about that. Was that a decision that came from the Mayor’s office or the Chief of Police? Somebody needs to be held accountable.

Ted Wheeler has repeatedly failed to keep the streets of Portland safe and he’s turned a blind eye to violence as long as the potential victims are of the “wrong” political persuasion. And this isn’t some hypothetical discussion, Mr. Mayor. Perhaps you’d like to go have word with this person and “explain” it all to him.
