Unsolicited Advice: Your Open Marriage Is Just A Pre-Divorce Partnership

Welcome to Unsolicited Advice, the weekly column where I give advice no one asked for to people who don’t know who I am. This week our charming rural farmhouse gets swept up into a tornado and lands us right smack dab in the middle of the bizarre fantasy world we call Hollywood.

Silicon Valley actor Thomas Middleditch admitted in a Playboy magazine interview that he and his wife of four years are in an “open marriage”. Normally I wouldn’t touch something like this with a ten foot sex toy. Of course, these are two consenting adults and what they do with their bodies inside (and outside) of their marriage is their business. But it was the HBO star’s description of their journey into “swinging” that raised alarm bells for me.

“Only after I got married was I like, ‘Mollie, I’m sorry, but we have to get nontraditional here.’ To her credit, instead of saying ‘F–k you, I’m out,’ she was like, ‘Let’s figure this out,’” he recalled. “To be honest, swinging has saved our marriage. We have different speeds, and we argue over it constantly, but it’s better than feeling unheard and alone and that you have to scurry in the shadows.”

He goes on to say that it hasn’t necessarily been a smooth ride. In fact, it sounds downright stressful especially considering Middleditch’s fame and how that effects his prospects as compared to his costume designer wife. He admits she isn’t as excited about the arrangement as he is, and there is a constant negotiation for her comfort level when he explores “opportunities”.

“That’s one of the trickier elements of it all, because Mollie doesn’t get that and yet she has to witness it. I’m like, ‘Come on, what about this chick who’s obviously really into me?’ And Mollie will say, ‘Yeah, she’s into you. Where do I fit in?’ That question comes up.”

“It’s a game of inches on a minefield to try to predict who’s going to feel safe,” he concludes. “My first concern is Mollie. Anything that happens has to be run by the queen.”

“I just like it. I’m sexual.”

All the red flags.

Thomas…you seem to be congratulating yourself for your honesty as though it absolves you from the obvious narcissism of this situation. While you see a marital victory, I see a wife a wife who was not only reluctant to acquiesce to your desire to be sexually active with other women but remains so. I’ve been married 20 years. I know that anything that is a recurring argument for years is not actually the healthy kind of arguing. It is a glaring sign that something is wrong and that one or both parties are hurting.

It sounds to me like Mollie really loves you, and it also sounds to me that she’s been trying to tell you that this arrangement doesn’t feel as good to her as it does to you. I suspect it isn’t just about the swinging, it’s about the trust. No matter what the circumstances are, a marriage cannot thrive if both partners don’t feel safe with each other. In this one interview you have thrown out several worrisome thoughts that make me think your wife isn’t exactly feeling safe.

You say Mollie is a private person and that you hesitate to share too much out of concern for that. That’s nice except you haven’t really honored that. In one single sentence you claim to want to protect her privacy while simultaneously putting her private sexual life on blast. Perhaps it would be one thing if this were a situation you’d both agreed to in the beginning and were both excited about. But exposing Mollie’s hesitancy and her unease with the lifestyle you chose for your marriage is a violation. I obviously know nothing about either of you but I’m guessing she finds the interview embarrassing at the very least.

You seem to have convinced yourself that your clever “workaround” saved your marriage, but I don’t see a marriage victory. I see a pre-divorce partnership.  I see a relationship that is dominated by your sexual needs. I understand there are many details between the two of you no one knows. Perhaps Mollie has her own needs that loom pretty large in your marriage. I don’t know, but this is Unsolicited Advice so I’m taking liberties. What I do know is that sex is not just a physical act- it is an expression of commitment, a celebration of intimacy and a declaration of trust. When you bring an outside party into the marital bed, you disrupt that cycle. It catches up to most people eventually.

Your narcissism makes it so you think your request for an open marriage was the loving thing to do, when in fact it was tragically selfish. “We have to be nontraditional about this” is a hell of a bomb to drop on a spouse after the marriage. While I understand that you perhaps may have felt disappointed by the realities of marriage once the sparkle wore off, what you so sadly don’t seem to get is that marriage isn’t about how well your partner serves your needs. It is about how well you serve your partner’s needs. Marriage isn’t a selfish institution, it is the exact opposite. It requires us to put the needs of our partner ahead of our own. As difficult as it may be at times, there’s a rich reward in that. It builds a foundation for a lasting commitment that isn’t based on how you feel but what you promised. It engenders something that is ultimately both vital and extremely sexy in a marriage…

Trust.

Mollie can’t trust you with her desire; you’ve all but said so yourself. Again, it’s one thing if this is an idea you both had and wanted to try together but it’s quite another for you to not only spring it on your wife years into the marriage but recognize that the arrangement isn’t a safe one for her. Yet you continue.

“I just like it. I’m sexual” has a lot of “I” in it and not much “we”. We’re all sexual, Thomas. You’re not the first human on earth to enjoy lots of sex. Lord, have mercy you sound so stupid.

And you say Mollie is your “queen”?

I say it won’t be long before Mollie is your ex.

Honor your “queen” by shutting up about her sex life in public and putting a halt to your “nontraditional” nonsense until you can both agree on a situation that is completely safe for both of your hearts.

It sounds like you’re really the only one enjoying yourself here. Poor Mollie. Get help, Thomas. You’re not well.

Think You’ve Heard the Stupidest Thing Ever? I Disagree. Witness the Woke’s New Condemnation of Ikea

Westlake Legal Group meatballs-1994807_1280-620x399 Think You’ve Heard the Stupidest Thing Ever? I Disagree. So there you are, thinking you’ve heard of the stupidest thing possible. But then I swoop in with this.

Do you appreciate affordable, well-designed furniture? Are you a fan of modern, minimalist decor? Do you hanker for a hunka Ikea?

Well, your favorite Swedish slinger of Lingonberry soda is in trouble.

In fact, its worse than you may imagine. The assembly-required home goods haven recently had the nerve to…**Trigger Warning**…serve peas.

Yes — it’s that horrible.

Peas, I said.

Calm yourself…

It all started when the backer of the Billy Bookcase decided to be a jerk and serve similar chicken.

Jerk chicken, in case you didn’t know, is a marinated Caribbean dish, and the maker of your favorite fake-fur rug paired it with white rice and the aforementioned panic-inducing spherical seeds.

You see, Ikea should be sensitive to the fact that the Scotch-bonnet-peppered meat isn’t traditionally teamed with dadgum green peas! It’s supposed to be kidney beans in coconut milk, ya neanderthals:

Shame on Ikea for feigning a penchant for diversity.

Let the outrage begin!

It’s shameful cultural appropriation, and they didn’t even hire any Caribbeans to guide them in their theft:

As you can see above, the store’s repented.

How could those white people have ever thought this was okay??

At least one person defended the home of the Klippan loveseat, Färgrik mug, Riktig Ögla curtain rings, Flärdfull candle, Knutstorp chair, and Ödmjuk teapot:

The store can use the support; it just can’t seem to catch a break with the Painfully Conscious — Ikea even made CheatSheet’s list of “5 Stores Where You Should Not Buy Furniture.”

The SuperWoke list excoriated the furniture retailer for having the nerve to:

  • Use wood
  • Not be located as pervasively as McDonalds

See for yourself:

However, the larger concerns around Ikea have more to do with environmental and other costs, not necessarily the furniture itself. “Can we afford to keep shopping at places where an item’s price reflects only a fraction of its societal costs?” one Atlantic column asked in 2009.

Seven years and counting after the article was published, it appears we can. But it doesn’t necessarily mean we should. For one, IKEA has pushed many transportation costs onto the consumers themselves, likely without them even thinking about it. The average consumer drives 50 miles round trip to make it to the assembly-required mecca, often far away from city centers so the business can avoid higher taxes. At the time the article was written, the retailer was also the third-largest consumer of wood, used in the particleboard now ubiquitous with the brand.

But the bigger issue, as the Atlantic points out, is that the cheaper furniture invites us not to invest or repair the items. When a bookcase breaks or a dresser becomes unusable, we throw it away instead of repairing it, like we would an heirloom armoire. It might get recycled, or it might not. Either way, we’re using more natural resources without adding lasting value. For those reasons, “IKEA is the least sustainable retailer on the planet,” said Wig Zamore, a Massachusetts environmental activist who worked with IKEA and supports some of the company’s regional green initiatives.

Did the person who wrote that article stop to think that perhaps people drive far to get to Ikea because they love it so much?

Perhaps the author could’ve also considered that if you open a store in New Jersey, it’ far from New York; if you open one in New York, it’s far from New Jersey.

All places are close to some things and far from others.

Oh well, who needs reason when you’ve got an outrageous signaling of virtue at hand?

I’m keen on the Swedist store, evil Nazi peas notwithstanding.

The next time you’re there, take my advice: getcha a softserve vanilla cone. Those things are delicious.

Just Days After Voting in a New Leader, the Women’s March Cans Her Due to Radical Anti-Israel, Anti-American Remarks

Westlake Legal Group protest-2734408_1280-620x349 Just Days After Voting in a New Leader, the Women’s March Cans Her Due to Radical Anti-Israel, Anti-American Remarks zahra billoo Wonder Woman Women's March Women Uncategorized The Sexes Sharia Law religion Politics Nazis Linda Sarsour Islam ISIS Gal Gadot Front Page Stories Feminism Featured Story democrats Culture & Faith Culture council of american islamic relations anti-semitism Allow Media Exception Abortion

It’s an odd thing — a pro-abortion, anti-Trump organization touting itself as a group representative of all women, perpetually associating with a religion that’s considerably restrictive where women are concerned.

Only days after naming a new board member — and after parting ways from some of its more anti-semitic members, including pro-Sharia Linda Sarsour — the Women’s March has ousted Zahra Billoo for radical anti-Israel statements previously made on social media.

Hence, Zahra’s now denounced the WM and their “Islamophobic smear campaign.”

So what kind of things had the former executive director of the controversial Council of American Islamic Relations said?

Well, as reported by The Daily Caller, in 2017, she listed her reasons for boycotting Wonder Woman. The movie starred Gal Gadot, who’d served in the Israeli Defense Forces. Here’s what Zahra had to say:

“I similarly would not watch a movie where the lead actor or actress were proud of their participation in the US military, ISIS, or Al Qaeda. Don’t guess, I’ll just tell you, I believe all of them are comparably evil.”

She also called Gal a “murderer,” condemning “Apartheid Israel.”

Press Pause: Wonder Woman was awesome. If you haven’t seen it, please do. Gal was wonderful.

Moving on, in a February 2018 Facebook entry, Zahra equated American military to ISIS and Nazis. Describing an encounter with a Marine recruiter, she offered this hunk o’ words:

“He explained the promise of the educational benefits that lured him in. He was otherwise not going to be able to go to school. I shared that financial benefits are often a recruiting tactic for groups like ISIS also. That was tricky for me. Gently comparing his experience to that of ISIS fighters. I refrained from comparing him to a Nazi cook, who though a cook, was still part of the Nazi operation. It took a lot to not say it.”

Zahra posted a 25-tweet-long series of criticism about her dismissal just after midnight Thursday. Here’s a little bit put together for ya:

Since this is going to be in your newsfeeds in the morning – here’s a thread about me being voted off the board of @WomensMarch tonight. A few hours ago, I was voted off the @WomensMarch national board. This followed an Islamophobic smear campaign led by the usual antagonists, who have long targeted me, my colleagues, and anyone else who dares speak out in support of Palestinian human rights and the right to self-determination. The past 48 hours have been a spiral of bad news and smear efforts. Part of the smear campaign is motivated by opponents of the Women’s March, because the organization has traditionally challenged the status quo of power and white supremacy in our country. However, much of the campaign is driven by people who oppose me and my work challenging the occupation of Palestine, our country’s perpetuation of unjust and endless wars, and law enforcement operations targeting the American Muslim community. The Women’s March, Inc. is an organization I once held dear. I spoke at the first #WomensMarch, spoke at regional marches every year after, spoke at the #WomensConvention, participated in national actions including the original #Kavanaugh protests, and worked to mobilize Muslim women for their efforts. During the past few years right-wingers, from the President’s son to the Anti-Defamation League and troll armies, have targeted the Women’s March, Inc. For so long, I’ve admired their resilience in speaking truth to power, in working together, and in never cowering. Over and over again, the co-founders of Women’s March, Inc., @lsarsour, @msladyjustice1, @TamikaDMallory, and @bobblanddesign, put their lives on the line, winning power for all women in all of our diversity. The Women’s March, Inc. that voted me off its board tonight is one that no longer demonstrates the strength that inspired millions of women across the country. To see and experience its new leaders caving to right-wing pressure, and casting aside a woman of color, a Muslim woman, a long-time advocate within the organization, without the willingness to make any efforts to learn and grow, breaks my heart.

The Women’s March was destined to go the way of the dodo bird, given its definitive tie to #MeToo. In a world of surging trends, the media perpetually tries to sell us on what’s most important. But that’s always fake news — as soon as there’s a newer story, yesterday’s headlines are Outsville.

And now, so is Zahra Billoo. And her tie to the pro-woman, anti-conservative-woman Women’s March.

Schumer Says He Doesn’t Know Any Dems Who Support Beto’s Gun Plan, Which Shows He’s Not Paying Attention

Beto O’Rourke’s gun confiscation plan and “Hell yes” comments from last week’s Democratic debate have been the talk of the Washington, DC media circuit and political commentators for the last week.

Many Democratic House and Senate members and candidates for president have been asked to weigh in on where they stand on what O’Rourke has proposed. Some oppose it on grounds the position will hurt the party in the future, while others support it, saying concerns about eroding the 2nd Amendment amount to nothing more than “far-right fearmongering.

With all that in mind, you’d think that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) would have an idea just what stances his Democratic colleagues have taken on the issue in the event it is brought before the Senate floor for consideration in the near future.

The Times Union reports Schumer is claiming he doesn’t know of any Democrat who supports Beto’s plan:

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer pooh-poohed O’Rourke as unrepresentative of Democratic views.

“I don’t know of any other Democrat who agrees with Beto O’Rourke, but it’s no excuse not to go forward,” Schumer said on a conference call with upstate reporters.

Seriously? How … could he not know that there are two Senators currently running for president who have voiced support for Beto O’Rourke’s gun confiscation plan? Cory Booker (NJ) and Kamala Harris (CA) both have endorsed it. While Booker’s and Harris’ presidential campaigns are going nowhere fast, they both have been floated as vice presidential possibilities.

Both Senators have penchants for staging theatrics at politically opportune times, so I wouldn’t discount either of them putting forth some type of symbolic proposal in the Senate similar to what Beto has proposed, even though they know it wouldn’t have a chance of going anywhere.

And as I wrote over the weekend, there are a number of other presidential candidates including frontrunners Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders who have expressed a willingness to get the government involved in some sort of “buyback” program, though they’ve indicated their programs would be voluntary.

Failed presidential candidate and current House member Eric Swalwell said over a year ago that gun owners should be forced to sell their “assault weapons” to the government. If the gun owners didn’t, Swalwell stated that “we should criminally prosecute any who choose to defy it by keeping their weapons.”

His position hasn’t changed.

There’s just no excuse for Schumer not knowing this information. Unless he’s lying.

Earlier this year, pro-abortion groups like Planned Parenthood, Emily’s List, and NARAL enthusiastically threw their support behind Marie Newman in the IL-3 Congressional race. Newman is a pro-abortion Democrat who is trying to primary out Rep. Dan Lipinski, who is one of the last pro-life Democrats in Congress.

Newman tried and failed in 2018 to unseat Lipinski, and decided to give it another go again this year. In addition to having the backing of the pro-abortion groups mentioned above, former presidential candidate Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (NY) also endorsed her this election cycle – as she did in 2018.

Though Gillibrand’s endorsement and that of current Democratic presidential candidates Bernie Sanders (VT) and Elizabeth Warren (MA) are feathers in Newman’s cap, she received an endorsement this week that is even much more coveted in the fever swamps of the progressive left: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY).

The New York Times reports:

“Marie Newman is a textbook example of one of the ways that we could be better as a party — to come from a deep blue seat and to be championing all the issues we need to be championing,” Ms. Ocasio-Cortez said in an interview.

Of Mr. Lipinski, she said: “The fact that a deep blue seat is advocating for many parts of the Republican agenda is extremely problematic. We’re not talking about a swing state that is being forced to take tough votes.”
[…]
“We are so proud that Marie Newman is the first Justice Democrat of this cycle to receive an endorsement from Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez,” said Alexandra Rojas, the executive director of Justice Democrats.

Lipinski responded to the news by noting that Newman would be the equivalent of a 5th member of the Squad if she defeated him:

“Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s endorsement of Marie Newman makes crystal clear that Ms. Newman is an extreme candidate who is completely out of step with the voters of Illinois’ Third District who do not want to be represented by a fifth member of the “Squad,” Lipinski said in a statement.

“The Democratic Party — and our country — cannot afford an obstructionist “Tea Party of the Left” when we need to focus on winning this next election and passing policies that will truly help working families and all who are struggling in America today,” he said.

This fauxfended tough girl AOC bigly. She clapped back on the Twitter machine:

“Aggressive statements” – is she … serious? I’d say Lipinski kept it pretty tepid (read his full statement here) in comparison to what he could have (and perhaps should have) said about the unquestionable extremism of the Squad.

AOC’s little tantrum just proves once again how incapable she is of handling even the mildest of criticisms. I’m surprised she didn’t accuse Lipinski of inciting violence against the Squad, which as we all know by now is Standard Operating Procedure for the Queenie Quartet.

CNN Prime Time talk show host Chris Cuomo can be super-annoying and narcissistic most of the time, but there are rare moments where he slips up and engages in actual journalism instead of spouting off flawed Democratic talking points.

Such was the case Wednesday night when 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke appeared on Cuomo’s program to discuss his controversial gun control plan and the “Hell yes” remarks he made at last Thursday’s presidential debate.

First, a recap of what O’Rourke said at the debate when asked whether or not he planned to take away people’s guns if elected president:

I am, if it’s a weapon that was designed to kill people on a battlefield. If the high impact, high velocity, when it hits your body, shreds everything inside of your body because it was designed to do that so you would bleed to death on a battlefield and not be able to get up and kill one of our soldiers.
[…]
Hell, yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47. We’re not going to allow it to be used against a fellow Americans anymore.

Cuomo started off the segment last night by noting that President Trump tweeted yesterday that “Dummy” O’Rourke’s extreme position would make a gun control compromise bill harder. Cuomo then asked O’Rourke directly if he was in favor of actual gun confiscation:

CUOMO: All right, so let’s state the proposition. Are you, in fact, in favor of gun confiscation?

O’ROURKE: Yes, when it comes to AR-15s and AK-47s, weapons designed for use on a military battlefield.

The high impact, high-velocity round that is fired from those weapons, when it hits your body, expends all of its kinetic energy, destroying everything that’s inside. And I’ve met those who’ve survived fire from an AK-47. I’ve met those who’ve lost a family member. That belongs on the battlefield, does not belong in this country. So, when it comes to those weapons, Chris, the answer is yes. But when it comes to firearms used for hunting or self-defense, the answer is no.

After Beto admitted he was calling for gun confiscation, he then got testy with Cuomo by telling him not to “fearmonger” that the governnment was coming to take away people’s guns. Cuomo pushed back aggressively:

O’ROURKE: And I don’t want you or anyone else to get into the fear-mongering that some have fallen prey to, saying that the government’s going to come and take all of your guns. What we are talking about exclusively is weapons of war that have no place in our homes…

CUOMO: I hear you.

O’ROURKE: …no place on our streets, and should remain on the battlefield.

CUOMO: I hear you. We’ll talk law first and then politics. It’s not about fear-mongering. You just said it, Beto. You said you’re going to confiscate guns.

I don’t think you can do it legally. The Heller case makes it pretty clear that there’s an individual right to own. And I don’t think we’ve ever seen the U.S. government do a taking of private property like what you’re suggesting. So, I’m not fear-mongering. I’m repeating what you’re saying.

Watch the exchange between O’Rourke and Cuomo below:

Cuomo getting Beto to admit he was advocating for gun confiscation was significant, because the candidate has repeatedly and erroneously called his plan a “buyback” plan, which suggests the government will simply “buy back” your weapon. This is is faulty for two reasons:

1) The weapon was never the government’s to begin with so they wouldn’t be “buying back” anything, and 2) a “buy back” implies that the plan is voluntary. Beto’s plan is not voluntary in any way.

Cuomo also noted during the segment that a number of Democrats had more or less said what Trump did, that Beto had hurt chances for a compromise bill. O’Rourke then threw his fellow Democrats under the bus by suggesting they, too, had been “complicit” in the stalemate over gun control.

Beto’s position on this issue has not moved the needle on his presidential polling numbers. He still lags way behind the top tier.

The next Democratic debate is October 15th in Ohio. It remains to be seen if he will qualify.

Most high-profile Democrats who have criticized Beto O’Rourke’s gun confiscation plan have done so from the perspective that they believe it’ll hurt the party in years to come, and that it’s undoable.

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), however, is a different kind of Democrat with a different kind of perspective when it comes to the issue of gun rights. He was asked about O’Rourke’s gun control position on Thursday and gave a response reminiscent of the late actor Charlton Heston’s “cold, dead hands” 2000 NRA convention speech:

Manchin told a Wall Street Journal reporter that the former Texas representative did not speak for all Democrats when vowing to complete mandatory buybacks for certain high-powered rifles.

“Beto’s one human being,” Manchin said, according to a Journal reporter. “He gave his own opinion, OK? I think it was very harmful to make it look like all the Democrats. I can tell you one thing: Beto O’Rourke’s not taking my guns away from me. You tell Beto that OK?”

However, Manchin’s office reportedly told NBC news the senator does not own an AR-style gun.

At last Thursday’s Democratic presidential debate, O’Rourke said “Hell yes” in response to ABC News debate moderator David Muir’s question about whether or not he was going to take away people’s guns if elected president:

MUIR: Some of the stage have suggested a voluntary buy-back for guns in this country. You have gone further. You said, quote, “Americans who own AR-15s and AK-47s will have to sell them to the government, all of them. You know that critics call this confiscation. Are you proposing taking away their guns and how would this work?

BETO O’ROURKE: I am, if it’s a weapon that was designed to kill people on a battlefield. If the high impact, high velocity, when it hits your body, shreds everything inside of your body because it was designed to do that so you would bleed to death on a battlefield and not be able to get up and kill one of our soldiers. When we see that being used against children and in Odessa, I met the mother of a 15-year-old girl who was shot by an AR-15 and that mother watched her bleed to death over the course of an hour because so many other people were shot by that AR-15 in Odessa, there weren’t enough ambulances to get to them in time. Hell, yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47. We’re not going to allow it to be used against a fellow American anymore.

President Donald Trump also lashed out at Beto Thursday, noting on Twitter that “Dummy Beto’s” debate declaration on taking guns had “made it much harder to make a deal” in Congress on a compromise gun control bill by basically confirming what gun rights activists have been saying about Democrats for years: They’re coming for your guns.

Reuters’ Photo of the Day: ‘Money Is Seen In President Trump’s Back Pocket As He Boards Air Force One’

Reuters has a daily feature on their website called “Editor’s Choice Photos” where photographs of items in the days’ news cycle can be viewed. For example, today they show Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife casting their votes in the Israeli election as well as Brazilian fire brigade members trying to control a fire in the Amazon. Also included is an image of a “man carrying a gun walking along a street blocked by barricades during a general strike day to protest against the shortage of fuel and against the government, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and a man entering his flooded home after torrential rains in Dolores near Alicante, Spain.”

You get the idea. The editors present the news of the day through a series of photographs, most of which contain some element of drama.

Included in today’s collection is a photo showing President Trump climbing the stairs to board Air Force One. The wind has blown up the side vent of his jacket revealing – wait for it – a $20 bill stuffed into his back pocket.

How is this newsworthy?

Here are some reader responses to the photograph:

Hard hitting news…Keep up the good job.

LOL at making a story about the President having $20 in his back pocket.

President Trump was always known for being a very good tipper.

He carries $3000 around at all times to tip people that gives him good service. Nice.

Tip money at the ready.

Ilhan Omar Demands Twitter “Deplatform” Trump After Tense Exchange, But There’s Just One Problem

President Trump and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) engaged in a brief but tense war of words on Twitter earlier today that had the freshman Congresswoman demanding the social media platform take action against him.

Politico reports:

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) today called on Twitter to take action against President Donald Trump’s account and remove a tweet in which he shared a false claim that Omar had “partied” on the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

“They have a responsibility and they set community standards and clearly the president has shown many-a-times that he has violated their community standards,” she told POLITICO. “I don’t even know why his account is not fully suspended — why he’s not deplatformed.”
[…]
Trump today shared a tweet by conservative actor and comedian Terrence Williams that erroneously claimed Omar was out dancing on the anniversary of 9/11. “IIhan Omar, a member of AOC Plus 3, will win us the Great State of Minnesota. The new face of the Democrat Party!” Trump wrote in a caption.

Williams ended up deleting the original tweet after it was noted that the Omar dancing video was actually from a September 13th event, but Trump’s tweet is still up as of this writing:

Here is how Omar responded:

She also retweeted several tweets from others who called for Twitter to take action, as well as one from 2020 presidential candidate and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) condemning Trump:

Here’s the problem with what Omar is all but telling Twitter to do in response to Trump’s tweet: If Twitter makes it the rule and not the exception to delete tweets and suspend and/or deplatform elected officials for misleading claims, unintentionally erroneous claims, deliberately false claims (lies), and/or any tweet the offending party alleges incited threats of violence, then Omar’s account will need to be suspended or deplatformed, too.

That goes for all members of The Squad, and in fact for most Republicans and Democrats in Congress as well. Because there’s not a single Twitter account out there from a politician that doesn’t contain at least one or more of the types of tweets I mentioned above, including Omar’s.

In fact, Omar has been resistant to deleting tweets she posts that are clearly anti-Semitic and prone to incite threats, and has only done so in certain instances – including deleting one that had been up for seven years.

Not to mention they weren’t deleted due to Republican complaints or because of any genuine feelings of guilt, but instead because of intense pressure from some of her own party members that the tweets were a distraction from their far left agenda.

While I don’t doubt that Omar is on the receiving end of some pretty nasty threats, the same holds true for most other members of the House and Senate. Unfortunately, it comes with the territory. The threats and those behind them should be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law if deemed credible and serious.

But I suspect that the issue with Omar is not just that Trump’s tweet was inaccurate, it’s the fact that she was criticized – period. It’s become Standard Operating Procedure for Squad members to flash the “incitement” card when someone criticizes them – even when the criticism is legitimate. It’s a way for Omar and her Congressional BFFs to try and shut down the debate.

Demanding Trump be suspended or deplatformed for his tweet is just another on a long list of shutuppery tactics utilized by the left, another way to try and silence an outspoken critic.

Even with Twitter’s well-documented left-wing biases in mind, it’s not likely to work. But it won’t stop Omar from trying.

Heartbreak: House Democratic Impeachment Caucus Is Dealt a Setback After Pelosi Smacks Them Down on Two Fronts

Though the “bombshell” New York Times hit piece against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh has collapsed under the weight of its own deliberate omissions, that hasn’t stopped some impeachment-happy Democrats from demanding a formal impeachment inquiry.

But while the discredited report hasn’t prevented opportunistic Squad members and Democratic presidential candidates like Sen. Kamala Harris from hitting the gas on the Impeach Kavanaugh bus, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has a giant red “STOP” sign in hand – and is already using it:

House Democratic leaders and rank-and-file members are dismissing calls to impeach Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, with some arguing the House has limited investigative resources and others saying it is a politically toxic issue.

Asked on Tuesday night if she sees the House spending any time on the Kavanaugh matter, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi responded with a simple “no.”

Pelosi didn’t elaborate, but other House Democrats boiled it down to fears a Kavanaugh impeachment show trial could hurt them in 2020:

Rep. Katie Hill, a California freshman, said she believes talk of impeachment could hurt Democrats on the campaign trail.
[…]
“… I know that this is not the issue that we want to be talking about just in terms of election,” she added. “I would like us to be able to just do what’s right, but I know that for many of my colleagues, it’s a really, really tough one.”
[…]
Pennsylvania Rep. Matt Cartwright also said his party should not prioritize the issue.

“Democrats are focused on the bread and butter, kitchen table issues facing ordinary Americans,” he told CNN.

Meanwhile, Politico reports on the “impeachment schism” that has grown between Pelosi and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler over the committee’s slow Trump impeachment waltz:

In a closed-door meeting last week, Speaker Nancy Pelosi stunned lawmakers and aides with a swipe at Democratic staff on the House Judiciary Committee.

Pelosi criticized the panel’s handling of impeachment in harsh terms, complaining committee aides have advanced the push for ousting President Donald Trump far beyond where the House Democratic Caucus stands. Democrats simply don’t have the votes on the floor to impeach Trump, Pelosi said.

“And you can feel free to leak this,” Pelosi added, according to multiple people in the room. Pelosi’s office declined to comment on the meeting.

Politico Playbook reported this morning that Democrats are far short of the votes they would need in the House to be able to impeach Trump. According to Democratic insiders they’ve talked to, 175 Democrats would vote today to impeach Trump if the issue came before the floor. That’s 43 short of the 218 needed.

So Pelosi is right to be concerned about how it would look for members if they tried and failed to impeach Trump in the middle of a crucial election cycle after months of Democrats like Nadler and AOC screaming “IMPEACH!”

They don’t have the votes now. They won’t have the votes later. Not for a Kavanaugh impeachment nor a Trump impeachment. Pelosi knows it.
