Westlake Legal Group Elijah-Cummings-Finger1 Rep. Elijah Cummings, Central Figure In Impeachment Inquiry, Dies At 68 Rep. Elijah Cummings impeachment Front Page Stories Featured Story donald trump democrats death Breaking baltimore Allow Media Exception

Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) died early this morning from complications of various health issues, according to his office. He was 68 years old.

A central figure in the impeachment inquiry in Congress, Cummings was the chair of the House Oversight and Reform Committee. He was one of three chairmen leading the investigation into President Donald Trump’s call with and actions regarding Ukraine. Cummings was an outspoken critic of the President, and was the target of a much-criticized tweet from Trump calling Cummings’ city of Baltimore a “rat-infested mess.”

The Baltimore native has received praise from both sides of the political aisle for his years of service in Congress.

From Democrat Joe Kennedy III:

To Republican Chip Roy:

The passing of Cummings will mean that Speaker Nancy Pelosi will have to pick a new chair for Cummings’ committee and a special election will eventually be held in his district, MD-07, which is a D+51 district and will likely feature several candidates vying for the job.

NPR: Cocaine Mitch may have to die before we fix climate change

Westlake Legal Group mcconnell NPR: Cocaine Mitch may have to die before we fix climate change The Blog Mitch McConnell Global Warming death Climate Change

If you ever feel the need for a break from your usual routine you can always dive into the swamps of National Public Radio. The folks who hang out there will typically deliver some of the most liberal conversations you’d ever care to hear on any subject under the sun. Climate change has been in the news in a big way over the past week, so of course, that was a hot topic.

Joshua Johnson, the host of the 1A show, was recently talking to Justin Worland, a reporter for Time about this subject. There’s really nothing unusual going on here in terms of typical climate alarmism, but the host appeared to have some sort of fixation with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. Specifically, he was focused on when Cocaine Mitch might kick the bucket because that’s the only way they think sweeping climate change legislation will be passed. (Free Beacon)

An NPR show discussed whether or not Democratic voters believe they have to wait until Sen. Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) dies to persuade Republican voters to take action on climate change.

1A host Joshua Johnson speculated that Democratic voters think they are “just going to have to wait for the Mitch McConnells of the Republican Party to die” before persuading GOP voters on climate change.

“I know this is kind of a nihilistic question, but I wish I had a nickel for every time I heard a Democratic voter say, ‘We’re just going to have to wait for the older ones to die off,’” Johnson said. “We know that this current generation is much more pragmatic, much more solutions-oriented. The old folks aren’t going to change, they’re the ones in power.”

If this all sounds a bit too bizarre to be believed, listen to it for yourself.

Now, to be clear, nobody on the panel was threatening to kill McConnell or even suggesting others do so. (At least not overtly.) And if that phrase had only come up once it wouldn’t be worth mentioning. But Johnson just kept going back to the well. After the first suggestion that they would have to wait for the Majority Leader to die, he invoked the phrase “die off” before anyone else could get a word in.

The Time reporter initially seemed to avoid saying it (possibly in a moment of common sense), but then caved. He spoke of it not being “a question of dying out,” going on to repeat that people shouldn’t have to wait for McConnell “and his fellow older Republicans to die off.”

Another panelist chimed in, saying, “I mean, come on. You’re going to wait for Mitch McConnell to die?”

There were at least eight references to McConnell and/or other “older” Republicans dying in a very short period of time. Were we in more of a pouncing mode, I suppose we could suggest that this was some sort of veiled threat here that needs to be looked into.

The broader message they were pushing, death obsession aside, is the belief that there’s a whole generation of younger Republicans out there who are ready and waiting to climb onboard the Green New Deal train, but the tide is being held back by McConnell’s refusal to schedule a vote on Democratic agenda items. Frankly, that doesn’t sound terribly realistic. The majority of conservatives I know aren’t opposed to policies that are beneficial to the planet.

But when it comes to climate change they largely fall into two groups, including the younger ones. Some are unconvinced that the case has been adequately made that human activity is the main driver of any changes in the climate being observed, with some feeling that the data is being overblown. Others may be convinced that significant climate change is taking place, but are not willing to fund trillion-dollar programs to “do something about it” when the major polluters and carbon emitters around the globe won’t do their part as well.

Either way, the idea that the GOP is going to radically reform on this issue if Mitch McConnell were suddenly and conveniently out of the way seems a bit far fetched. But at least for now, I suppose the NPR crowd will have to keep waiting to find out. Cocaine Mitch doesn’t appear to be getting ready to give them their wish any time soon.

Ilhan Omar: When will Twitter take action against Trump for smearing me?

Westlake Legal Group io Ilhan Omar: When will Twitter take action against Trump for smearing me? twitter threats The Blog Terrorist terrence williams smear Ilhan Omar death dance 9/11

This is an interesting test case for whether there’s anything Trump could do that might earn some sort of sanction from Twitter’s powers that be. Probably not. He’s their golden goose, the man who singlehandedly made their platform relevant to the entire planet moment to moment. He can’t be banned no matter what he does.

But could he be temporarily suspended, i.e. lose his posting privileges for 12 hours, or face some other reprimand? There was chatter somewhere not long ago about Twitter possibly installing a new feature in which tweets posted by, ahem, “public officials” that violate the platform’s terms of service would be marked to indicate the violation but wouldn’t be removed. The public interest in knowing what those … “public officials” are saying at a given moment is too high to justify erasing the tweet entirely.

Omar’s anticipating an argument like that, however, by emphasizing that she’s received death threats after Trump’s tweet this morning. If public reaction to a false tweet ends up putting someone in danger, doesn’t Twitter have a responsibility to remove it?

But let’s back up. Here’s Trump’s tweet:

The link at the end pointed to a tweet from MAGA superfan Terrence Williams that’s now been deleted. What was in that tweet?

Mediaite has a copy. Turns out it was a video of Omar dancing at some event. “GET THIS WOMAN OUT OF OFFICE,” Williams wrote. “Ilhan Omar partied on the anniversary of 9/11 because she believes ‘Some People Just Did Somethings.’” Is that right? Did Omar go dancing on 9/11? Because that would be insensitive.

Not crazy insensitive, perhaps, like wanting to invite the Taliban to Camp David during the week of 9/11. But insensitive, especially given the attention to her “some people did something” remarks about 9/11 earlier this year.

But no, she didn’t go dancing on 9/11. Jake Tapper blew the whistle:

She was dancing at a CBC party on Friday night. That explains why Williams’s tweet is now gone. Either he deleted it when the lie was exposed or Twitter did. Tapper was right about security issues too, or so says Omar:

Lefty groups are also demanding action:

Why did Trump amplify Williams’s claim that Omar went dancing on 9/11 without checking it out first? Well, because he’s Trump. President Ron Burgundy will retweet an-y-thing you put in his Twitter timeline if it happens to agree with stuff he already believes. In fact, Williams turns out to be the same guy whom Trump retweeted last month after Jeffrey Epstein’s suicide. “#JefferyEpstein had information on Bill Clinton & now he’s dead,” wrote Williams, adding “ClintonBodyCount” and “ClintonCrimeFamily” at the end of his tweet. The president deemed that worthy enough to be broadcast to the world, never mind that Epstein died in the custody of his own DOJ. Frankly, given the sort of trashy conspiracy theories that are being tweeted at Trump every day by fans and foes, it’s surprising that he doesn’t get suckered by stuff like Omar dancing on 9/11 more often. He’s never retweeted a QAnon claim, for instance, as far as I can remember. (Although I believe he has once or twice retweeted people with QAnon references in their Twitter usernames.)

Will Twitter do something, though? I suspect not, and not just because he’s their most powerful “power user.” I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone suspended on the platform for simply retweeting or reposting a false claim made by someone else. Normally it’s the source of the smear who’s punished — maybe Williams will lose his account but probably not the people like Trump who promoted his claim. Possibly Twitter will revisit that standard in the aftermath of this incident, forcing people to double-check spurious allegations made by others before mindlessly retweeting them on penalty of losing their own posting privileges if they amplify something false. Although if they do that, righties like Josh Hawley who are eager to regulate Big Tech will turn around and accuse them of hypocrisy: “Why should Trump lose his privilege to post for amplifying Williams’s smear when Twitter faces no accountability for amplifying that smear in the first place?” That’ll be a fun debate.

Los Angeles homeless dying in droves

Westlake Legal Group LA-homeless-camp Los Angeles homeless dying in droves The Blog los angeles homeless drug abuse death

We’ve covered a number of stories here dealing with the homelessness crisis in Los Angeles which has been out of control and growing for several years now. Most of these tales have to do with drug addiction, mental illness, crimes committed both by and against the homeless and people using the streets as their bathrooms. But there’s another, even darker element to this story featured in the LA Times this week. As it turns out, the homeless are not just living on the streets. They’re dying on them and in large numbers.

On average, nearly three homeless people are dying daily in the county, nearly double the rate of deaths by homicide. Illness, addiction, accidents, suicide and the ravages of being unsheltered are among the primary causes of death.

“We know the research says that people who are what’s called rough sleepers, those who are living on the streets and not in a shelter or a car, are 10 times more likely to die than the regular population,” said Dr. Susan Partovi, citing a study in Boston. Partovi has been administering to homeless people in Los Angeles for years.

The average age of the first 666 homeless people who died in L.A. County as of Aug. 25 was 51, well below the county’s average life expectancy of roughly 80. Homeless people are dying on sidewalks, along riverbeds, and in tents, parks, shelters, vehicles, motels and hospitals.

This isn’t a case of an existing problem suddenly getting more media attention. The number of homeless people is rising dramatically and the number of deaths on the streets is climbing steadily at the same time. In 2012 LA recorded 407 homeless deaths (which is still far too many). Last year it was 921 and this year they are on track to break 1,000. There isn’t one single cause for these deaths, but most of them were aggravated by the lack of shelter, medical care, and healthy food.

Returning to the crime problem I mentioned above (and which feeds, in part, into the death rate), the numbers there are daunting as well. One report from earlier this year found that crimes against the homeless are nearly impossible to calculate because they so often go unreported. Conversely, crimes by people described as being homeless rose sharply in 2018. The number of rapes in this category rose by 78% over the previous year and serious assaults were up by more than fifty percent.

Much the same as the violent crime problem in Baltimore I wrote about earlier today, this horrific situation is not impossible to fix. Keep in mind that all of this homelessness is cropping up in the midst of one of the greatest concentrations of wealth in the world. Los Angeles also has the third-largest police department in the United States in addition to having the largest sheriff’s department. They also have significant social support services. But the “hands-off” approach that’s frequently taken when it comes to their homeless only encourages more and more people to join their ranks.

Surely some sort of partnership between the municipal government and the upper crust of Hollywood could generate the funds needed for more shelters and medical services. More importantly, they need to put the required staffing and resources in place to begin transitioning as many of these people as possible out their current conditions. Those who are able should be able to find work and eventually a home of their own. Those with mental illness require care. But end goal certainly has to be clearing the streets and greatly reducing the problems that come along with an army of homeless people living out there 24/7.

Report: Epstein signed will just two days before his death

Westlake Legal Group je-2 Report: Epstein signed will just two days before his death will trust The Blog suicide prison mcc epstein death beneficiary

If only there had been some sign, some clue, that Epstein had been suicidal. Besides the fact that he’d tried to kill himself recently once before, I mean.

Oh, and the fact that he had his lawyers bring him a will to sign 48 hours before he hanged himself.

Besides those, I mean.

And so a case already littered with mysteries faces the most momentous mystery of all: Who’s the new lucky owner of a painting of Bill Clinton in a dress?

Jeffrey Epstein’s will has been filed in the US Virgin Islands, and it shows that he signed it Aug. 8 — two days before he hanged himself in his Manhattan jail cell, according to court papers exclusively obtained by The Post on Monday…

The former hedge-fund manager put all of his holdings in a trust, called The 1953 Trust in court papers, after the year he was born…

There are no details on the trust’s beneficiaries. The court papers note that Epstein’s only potential heir was his brother, Mark Epstein. But the will adds that Mark only had a claim to his brother’s extensive holdings if Jeffrey hadn’t left behind the document.

This may be the strongest evidence yet that his death really was a suicide. How many people outside his legal team even knew that he’d signed a new will shortly before his death? Do the beneficiaries of his “1953 Trust” even know that they’re beneficiaries? The will is proof, in case the previous suicide attempt wasn’t enough, that Epstein was thinking about death in the small window of time before his demise. You can still maintain a murder theory here if you like — “He knew he was being targeted for assassination and wanted his affairs in order” — but the timing is quite a coinkydink.

Occam’s Razor: He was preparing to check out.

It makes me wonder whether his lawyers knew, or at least suspected, that he was planning to off himself. To hear them tell it the answer is no, that Epstein allegedly went as far as to say “I’ll see you Sunday” to one during their final meeting. But a previous suicide attempt *and* a request for a revised will are big clues to overlook, and he’d have an obvious incentive to pretend to be in good spirits (“see you Sunday”) if he was intent on killing himself, namely, avoiding giving MCC a reason to put him back on suicide watch. According to the Times, his mental state had deteriorated somewhat in the days before his death:

But in his final days, Mr. Epstein’s efforts to lessen the misery of incarceration seemed to be faltering.

He was seldom bathing, his hair and beard were unkempt and he was sleeping on the floor of his cell instead of on his bunk bed, according to people at the jail.

The wing he was in is known for being infested with roaches and rats “and inmates often have to navigate standing water — as well as urine and fecal matter — that spills from faulty plumbing.” He was sufficiently afraid of being attacked by other inmates that he was reportedly paying protection money to multiple people by placing funds in several prisoners’ commissary accounts. As for how he might have known that the coast was clear for a new suicide attempt:

Mr. Epstein was housed in one of a handful of cells in 9 South where inmates could peer out of their small windows and down onto the staff members stationed at the guard desk, according to a prison official. He might have been able to see whether the guards were asleep, the official said.

I continue to find it hard to explain why a guy who had eluded serious criminal trouble for decades and was litigating the question of whether his previous plea deal with the feds barred a second prosecution would give up in the earliest stages of this legal battle, but maybe Epstein’s lawyers had a hard reality check with him at some point. E.g., “Jeff, we’re going to lose on this double jeopardy matter. And there won’t be any sweetheart deal this time. The public’s in a frenzy. Even if you have information on other high-profile predators, they can never let you out as part of a deal.” Maybe Epstein digested that, realized that he’d spend the rest of his life in fear of being killed by an inmate, and the weight of it coupled with the dreary conditions of his incarceration finally made him snap.

In any case, I will shed no tears. In lieu of an exit question, read this other story at the New York Post today about a “birthday gift” Epstein once received from a buddy in France, according to Virginia Giuffre. Can you guess what it is?

Sky News Blames “Colonization” for Homosexuality Being Illegal In Muslim Countries

If you want a story that illustrates the stupidity of inter-sectional wokeness, here you go.

Sky News shared this report via their YouTube channel, which mostly focuses on Nigeria. In it, they attempt to make the case that criminalization of homosexuality was a product of colonization by Western powers.

Of course, if you actually watch the video, you quickly learn that all the places where homosexuality is punishable by death are Muslim countries operating under some form of Sharia law. The video even spends about 20 seconds on that fact, mentioning that in Northern Nigeria, Sharia law is what is dictating such inhumane punishments.

Despite that, they keep coming back to the idea that old penal codes from the colonial era are the real problem here. This is ahistorical nonsense.

Yes, colonial powers during that time period, along with just about every other society on earth at the time, did not approve of homosexuality. But to try to pretend that old laws from the 1800s are the reason Muslim countries have the death penalty for homosexuality is ridiculous.

Further, most (if not nearly all) of the African cultures in questions had strong traditions against homosexuality long before the colonial period. There’s a reason that Europe is accepting of homosexuality and Africans generally aren’t, and it’s not because Africans were somehow still bound to laws put in place by the French a hundred years ago. At about the 8 minute mark of the video, they finally show a map of all the countries in Africa where homosexuality is still a crime. The vast majority are Muslim countries.

Look, I’ve got no problem with Sky News or anyone else pointing out that it’s wrong for countries to persecute people for being gay. What I do have a problem with is them peeing on my leg and telling me it’s raining by blaming “colonization” for it. The primary driver of anti-gay laws in Africa, including all laws dictating the death penalty, is the Muslim religion. Period. Why was that not the focus of their report?

The answer is because Muslims are at the top of the inter-sectional pyramid for some reason. It’s that simple.

Investigations are now underway as to who the anonymous message board site 4Chan knew of Epstein’s death 45 minutes before it was announced to the general public.

According to BuzzFeed, the New York Fire Department initially thought one of their own posted the information to the site but determined that it was not them at all:

After telling BuzzFeed News the post was “under review,” an FDNY spokesperson said authorities “determined this alleged information did not come from the Fire Department.”

“An investigation is a formal act which brings about a process which includes interviewing witnesses, serving notice, determining credibility of witness statements — and that was not warranted nor did it take place here. This determination was made after a review of the incident. We looked at the information provided by [a BuzzFeed News] reporter and we looked at our own records and there was no match,” said FDNY spokesperson Frank Dwyer, who added that the FDNY’s Office of Healthcare Compliance conducted the review. “It doesn’t match our medical records.”

The FDNY thought that perhaps it was a first responder based on the poster’s intimate knowledge of patterns and methods used to resuscitate Epstein.

“[D]ont ask me how I know, but Epstein died an hour ago from hanging, cardiac arrest. Screencap this,” said the anonymous poster in addition to a picture of a green frog wearing royal garb.

The other users on 4Chan expressed doubt and urged the poster to provide more information, which he did according to BuzzFeed:

After publishing the post, other 4chan users egged on the author. When they expressed doubt, the original poster added more information to the discussion thread, including a detailed breakdown of the procedures allegedly used to resuscitate Epstein, which suggest the poster may have been a first responder, medical worker, or otherwise privy to details about efforts to resuscitate the disgraced financier.

One doctor spoken to by BuzzFeed noted that first responders could have been in contact with the hospital they were taking Epstein to as they were attempting to revive him:

Dr. Keith Wesley, an emergency medicine physician who has authored several EMS textbooks and articles, viewed the 4chan post at BuzzFeed News’ request and said it lays out standard procedures for paramedics.

“This sounds like standard American Heart Association guidelines, which most EMS agencies use,” Wesley said.

Part of the post refers to “telemetry advised bicarb.” According to Wesley, this could mean the first responders were also speaking with the hospital as they were trying to resuscitate their patient.

If the FDNY has ruled that it wasn’t one of theirs, then it’s possible it could have been someone within the hospital staff. Investigations are being conducted.

NY Post: There’s no surveillance video of Epstein’s death

Westlake Legal Group je NY Post: There’s no surveillance video of Epstein’s death Video Trump The Blog surveillance suicide prison pedophile mcc epstein doj death coroner Bill Clinton

We’re never gonna know.

Well … maybe not “never.” Cameras aren’t trained on inmates’ cells at MCC, per the Post, but they are trained on the hallways. If someone entered Epstein’s cell block to do him harm, his likeness should be on the footage somewhere.

Unless the Clintons perfected an invisibility cloak and gave it to their team of international assassins, in which case all bets are off.

There’s no surveillance video of the incident in which Jeffrey Epstein apparently hanged himself in a federal lockup in Lower Manhattan, law enforcement officials told The Post on Sunday.

Although there are cameras in the 9 South wing where the convicted pedophile was being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center, they are trained on the areas outside the cells and not inside, according to sources familiar with the setup there.

Jazz already noted in an earlier post that the overworked guards on duty at MCC didn’t follow protocol by checking his cell every 30 minutes, as is required for inmates in the Special Housing Unit. But it wasn’t just one scheduled check that they missed; WaPo’s sources claim that “several” hours passed between look-ins on Epstein. Nor was that the only breach of protocol:

After he was removed from suicide watch at the end of July, Mr. Epstein had been downgraded to “special observation status,” which mandated guards check on him every 30 minutes and also required him to have a cellmate, a person familiar with the matter said.

Yet in the hours leading up to his death, it appears he had no cellmate and wasn’t receiving the required check, the person said. The cellmate had apparently left, possibly for a court appearance or another appointment, and was not quickly replaced as required by protocol, the person said.

Without both breaches of protocol, Epstein might be alive. If the guards had checked at the appointed time, they might have interrupted whatever was happening in his cell despite the fact that he had no cellmate. If he had had a cellmate, the cellmate might have alerted guards to a suicide attempt despite the fact that they weren’t checking on him at appointed times. Everything had to go right, or rather wrong, for Epstein to end up dead. Go figure.

This tweet on Saturday from a respected reporter at the Washington Post grabbed my eye:

Epstein’s representatives were sufficiently concerned that they had their own forensic pathologist attend the autopsy to observe. The coroner’s conclusion: Inconclusive, for the moment.

Barbara Sampson, New York City’s chief medical examiner, said her office conducted an autopsy Sunday but had not yet reached a determination on cause of death “pending further information.” The medical examiner also allowed Michael Baden, a private pathologist, to observe the autopsy at the request of Epstein’s representatives, Sampson said.

Conspiracy theorizing on social media this weekend was rampant, up to and including the president of the United States — although, actually, that’s par for the course for both Twitter and for Trump. The only cohort that seems skeptical of foul play is … people who actually know how the federal prison system works. Defense attorney “Caroline Court” is the latest criminal lawyer to make the case that this outcome just isn’t that surprising for an institution like MCC:

The MCC has been notoriously understaffed for some time now. Inmates have reported that they have been locked in their cells all weekend because of staff shortages, and, as I tweeted, even weekend legal visits are sometimes canceled for the same reason.

Because of the short staff issues, corrections officers at the MCC often work double shifts. Was the corrections officer covering the SHU that morning in the middle of a double and perhaps fell asleep?…

I’ll add that mental health treatment in a jail setting is often woefully inadequate. So for someone who has experience with how bad it can be, it simply does not surprise me that this happened.

Complaints about guards at MCC being spread too thin are nothing new, added law prof John Pfaff:

Complaints about guards dehumanizing inmates in federal prison, even to the point of gambling on their suicide odds, also aren’t unheard of, he added. Ken White, a former assistant U.S. Attorney turned criminal defense lawyer, made all of those same points over the weekend when Epstein conspiracy mania was in full flower, stressing that you simply can’t bet against the callousness and incompetence of administrators and staff as an explanation when catastrophe results at a federal prison. To which all I’d say is this: Wouldn’t the guards have thought to give Epstein extra attention purely for the sake of keeping heat off themselves in case he turned up dead? White scoffed at that theory in his weekend thread, claiming that only “gullible dipsh*ts” would believe that law enforcement might suffer consequences for a death on their shift, but most inmate deaths don’t draw an angry statement from the Attorney General in the immediate aftermath and white-hot media attention to the circumstances of their negligence. The guards must have anticipated how suspicious Epstein dying in their care would look and how irate the public would be. He was no ordinary prisoner. They got caught napping anyway. Why?

I am willing to entertain your most insane conspiracy theories about Epstein’s death

Westlake Legal Group je I am willing to entertain your most insane conspiracy theories about Epstein’s death theories The Blog suicide mcc hanging epstein doj death conspiracy

Normally I scoff at Birthers, sneer at QAnoners, and laugh in the face of Pizzagaters. Although, between the Epstein saga and the Catholic Church’s endless scandals, the laughter about that last one has gradually turned from uproarious to more like uncomfortable throat-clearing.

Today, though? Today this mind is open for business on conspiracy theories. That’s how dubious Epstein’s death is. Gimme your best shot: Clinton-backed assassination? Trump-backed assassination? Coordinated hit by a cabal of international jetset pedos? The Saudis? Mossad?

Me before Epstein’s death: Conspiracy theories are facile misdirections favored by people who crave simplistic explanations to soothe their own feelings of powerlessness.

Me now: The Illuminati whacked Epstein.

Everything’s on the table. If that guy with the crazy hair from “Ancient Aliens” wants to pitch me on something involving ET, I’ll listen to that too. There’s only one no-go zone:

I just can’t. I can’t do another years-long MSNBC-driven cycle involving Russians hiding under the bed. Shoot me anything else and we’ll talk.

I mean, really:

Jeffrey Epstein told prison guards and fellow inmates that he believed someone had tried to kill him weeks before his death, a source has revealed to DailyMail.com

The insider, who had seen the billionaire on several occasions during his incarceration at the Metropolitan Correctional Center, also claims that the normally reserved Epstein seemed to be in good spirits.

‘There was no indication that he might try to take his own life,’ the source told DailyMail.com

‘From what I saw, he was finally starting to adjust to prison. I think he was comforted by the rigidity of his new life’.

It’s a good thing public faith in institutions was already in the toilet or this really might have shaken it.

According to the Times, the most famous defendant in the federal prison system outside of Supermax, who tried to kill himself — or survived a murder attempt — just three weeks ago, was placed on suicide watch for all of … one week. It began on July 23 and ended on July 29, never mind the tremendous public and prosecutorial interest in keeping Epstein alive in hopes of him eventually telling all about his activities with rich men and underaged girls. A different NYT piece explains just how difficult it is to commit suicide when you’re on suicide watch:

Inmates on suicide watch are generally placed in a special observation cell, surrounded with windows, with a bolted down bed and no bedclothes. A correction officer — or sometimes a fellow inmate trained to be a “suicide companion” — is typically assigned to sit in an adjacent office and monitor the inmate constantly.

Robert Gangi, an expert on prisons and the former executive director of the Correctional Association of New York, said guards also generally take shoelaces and belts away from people on suicide watch.

“If he’s on suicide watch, it’s virtually impossible to kill yourself,” Mr. Gangi said.

You can’t be removed from suicide watch until the chief psychologist decides that you’re no longer a risk to self-harm. Somehow, it seems, Jeffrey Epstein convinced MCC officials that he’d regained the will to live in the course of one week. “For them to pull him off suicide watch is shocking,” said a former federal warden to NBC. “For someone this high-profile, with these allegations and this many victims, who has had a suicide attempt in the last few weeks, you can take absolutely no chances. You leave him on suicide watch until he’s out of there.”

Presumably the feds’ defense will be, “No, really, people in our custody die all the time”

I’m not onboard with the Clinton theory, I must say. In fact, I’d encourage Bill and Hillary to put out this statement: “If we wanted to take him out, we would have gotten him on the first try.” I’m not onboard with the Trump/cabal/Saudi/Mossad theory either. My preferred insane explanation is that Epstein isn’t really dead. Remember, he’s a supervillain with his own island lair who wanted to seed the world with his DNA. If you know anything about movies, you know dudes like that are never dead the first time you think they are. Right now, I expect, the FBI is prying open the door of Epstein’s Rape Temple and discovering elaborate high-tech equipment labeled “CLONE MACHINE.” He’ll reemerge eventually in some global TV transmission demanding a trillion dollars or else he’ll blow up the sun or whatever.

And if he doesn’t, rest assured that there’ll soon be an Internet cottage industry of “Epstein is alive!!1!” videos/photos taken on the street from far away of men who bear a vague resemblance to him.

Trump hasn’t said anything yet as of 4 p.m. ET, but I figure that’s because Kellyanne Conway is busy trying to explain to him why it’d be wrong for the president to start tweeting conspiracy theories about a prisoner who died in federal custody. Even so, the odds that POTUS ends up tweeting out #ClintonBodyCount sometime tonight can’t be worse than 50/50. While we’re waiting for his reaction, House and Senate should be sending out subpoenas immediately for MCC administrators demanding answers on how Epstein managed to pull this off — unless Congress would rather see the Epstein matter go away asap, that is. If they do hold hearings, I want someone to ask how common it is for prisoners to be taken off suicide watch after just a week and how often prisoners die when they’re a known suicide risk to the staff.

Oh, and like all you, of course I want to know if there’s surveillance video of Epstein’s cell last night. If this was in fact a suicide, it should be easy to prove.

There’s one other terrifying explanation for Epstein’s mysterious death that we haven’t considered yet. What if … federal prison officials really are so callous and incompetent as to have not kept special watch over Epstein?

Exit question: Will the DOJ honor Epstein’s wishes to have his dong frozen postmortem?

Antifa Says It’s Coming to Texas On September 1st

Great news, Texans! The domestic terrorist group known as Antifa is coming to our state!

Finally, after all this time, they’ve decided to step out of locations where they’re protected by politicians, and are saying they’re going to make an appearance for a “10-day siege in El Paso, TX,” according to Antifa’s most hated reporter, Andy Ngo.

Ngo sent out a tweet last Monday that showed that Antifa is apparently going on some kind of recruitment tour that ends in Texas, where a hand-drawn picture depicts Antifa shooting bows and arrows, throwing Molotov cocktails, and destroying the border barrier so that illegal migrants can get through.

“Antifa is leading a “Border Resistance” militancy training tour that will converge on a 10-day siege in El Paso, TX. The promotional image shows border enforcement officers being killed & government property fired bombed. Organizers asking for “white comrades” to pay for others,” tweeted Ngo.

The drawing has a lot of destruction in it, but as you can see, it also depicts deadly violence. Below the burning truck is depicted a dead ICE officer stuck with arrows laying in what appears to be a pool of blood.

You can see in the upper right-hand part of the drawing what I assume to be more agents. One falling to his death, stuck with arrows, and another hanging on to the railing of the burning tower.

If Antifa believes they’re going to overcome the border agents, they’ve got another thing coming. For one, it’s not ICE they’ll be dealing with. It’s our military, and Texas’s national guard. Soy’d out communists who have never operated outside of their politically protected bubbles are in for a hard lesson if they believe they’re going to storm into Texas and have their way.

All they’re doing is threatening Texans with a good time.

More important is the fact that Antifa has now shown themselves willing to actually destroy and kill. They are, without a doubt, a domestic terrorist group.

I’d like to say I sincerely doubt that Antifa would take it this far, but this wouldn’t be the first attack by Antifa on a border station. However, he went there to die. I doubt Antifa members are willing to go as far as him.

However, rest assured, if Antifa begins an open violent attack in Texas, there will be death, but it won’t at all go Antifa’s way.
