“Italian Americans Are Not Mafia”: Gov. Andrew Cuomo Defends Brother Chris in “Fredo” Controversy

This is quite possibly one of the most New York stories ever.

One week after CNN‘s Chris Cuomo went ballistic on an alleged right-wing provocateur who approached him and called him “Fredo”, his brother Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) has come to his defense.

The New York Daily News reports:

Gov. Cuomo came out swinging in defense of his TV host brother Chris Cuomo who got embroiled in a nasty confrontation with a stranger who called him “Fredo.”

The governor insisted he’s never even watched The Godfather, where the supposed slur originates, from start to finish and said their famous dad refused to watch the film on principle.

“Italian Americans are not Mafia,” Andrew Cuomo told WAMC radio. “Don’t you dare liken my family to the family you saw in The Godfather or the The Sopranos.”

Andrew Cuomo said bigotry and slurs aimed at Italians [are] as dangerous as xenophobia and anti-Semitism, citing the mass shootings in El Paso and at a Pittsburgh synagogue last year.

“It’s all ugliness,” he said.

Along with “Fredo,” which refers to a thick-headed character in the famed mafia flick, Andrew Cuomo railed against the use of other anti-Italian insults, like “wop” and “dago.”

You can listen to the interview segment Gov. Cuomo did on WAMC here.

Here’s a recap of what happened during the tense exchange on Shelter Island last week between Cuomo and an unidentified man, courtesy of the New York Post:

“Punk-ass bitches from the right call me ‘Fredo.’ My name is Chris Cuomo, I’m an anchor on CNN,” the newsman says in the video, which was shared on Twitter Monday evening.

“Fredo is from ‘The Godfather,’ he was a weak brother and the use of it to an Italian is disparaging,” he continues.

The 49-year-old anchor tells the man that the name “Fredo” is as offensive to Italian Americans as the N-word is to African Americans.

“Don’t f–king insult me like that,” the Queens native fumes. “You call me ‘Fredo,’ it’s like I call you punk bitch, you like that?”

The man in the video insists that he believed the anchor’s real name was Fredo.

But Cuomo, a dad of three, doesn’t buy it.

“You did not think that … stand up like a man,” he seethes. “Own what you said.”

The situation then escalates, with Cuomo telling the man: “I’ll f–king throw you down these stairs like a f–king punk … you’re gonna call me Fredo, take a f–king swing? I’ll f–king wreck your s–t.”

Because a mere recap doesn’t do the video itself justice of what went down, watch it below:

The “PrimeTime” anchor later expressed regret over his behavior but did not apologize:

Gov. Cuomo also stated during his Monday interview that his late father, former Gov. Mario Cuomo, “would not watch” the “Godfather” movie. “My father wouldn’t watch the movie because it was anti-Italian.”

NBC News partially disputed Cuomo’s claim, saying the elder Cuomo did finally watch the movie at the age of 81.

Speaking of NBC News, they win the day with this clever take on the governor’s interview:

Heh.

Kamala Harris Says She’s Not Okay With the Bernie Sanders’ Healthcare Plan Co-Sponsored by Kamala Harris

Kamala Harris – Caricature by DonkeyHotey, licensed under CC BY-SA 2.0/Original

Yeah, you read the title correctly.

According to the Daily Caller, the 2020 presidential candidate and California Senator Kamala Harris recently said that she’s opposed to the healthcare plan put forth by fellow Democrat and 2020 competitor Sen. Bernie Sanders despite the fact that she herself co-sponsored it.

Harris noted during a series of fundraisers with wealthy donors in the Hamptons that she “has not been comfortable” with the Medicare-for-all plan despite putting her signature on it in 2018. Joining her signature is Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Sen. Corey Booker, 2020 candidates all.

This is yet another confusing turn from Harris, who seems to have a different answer to the health care question by the day. At one point, Harris said she wanted to eliminate private health insurance completely, but quickly walked that back when it proved to be unpopular. Then, once again, she endorsed the idea of getting rid of private insurance, even going so far as to endorse Sanders’ Medicare-for-all bill, but made it clear that she doesn’t want to walk back all private insurance despite it being in Sanders’ bill.

…which she co-sponsored.

…despite the fact that she’s apparently uncomfortable with it.

…even though it does exactly what she wants, give or take a longer timeline.

If you’re confused, don’t blame me. This is Harris’s doing.

What is likely going on is that Harris is caught between two types of voters. The moderate voters and wealthy donors who have private insurance they’d like to keep, and the radical base that has taken over her party which seeks to eliminate privatized anything. It’s not just you who’s confused, Harris seems to be too.

The more Harris tries to line up her messaging to embrace what’s popular, the more confused she becomes, but it does expose a fatal flaw in her as a politician. She’s not concerned about principle, she’s concerned about popularity. What she embraces today may be taboo tomorrow, and when it comes to the mob, what is taboo changes frequently.

Harris will soon find herself on the bad side of everyone and will see her approval numbers begin to freefall as a result.

Texas Is Back In Democrat’s Crosshairs as They Gear Up to Unseat John Cornyn, but Can They Win?

Ever since Robert “Beto” O’Rourke put up an astounding fight against Sen. Ted Cruz, the Democrats have smelled blood in Texas’s water and the sharks are once again circling. This time, they’re looking to go after the Texas Senate through Sen. John Cornyn.

According to The Hill, a handful of Democrats have already lined up to take Cornyn out of office:

Seven Democrats have entered the primary, and one more could join in a state that has not elected a Democratic senator in more than three decades. Among the candidates are MJ Hegar, a military veteran who narrowly lost a House race last year and Houston City Councilwoman Amanda Edwards.

The optimism is being driven by trends that appear to favor Democrats, including a growing diversity and a surge in transplants from neighboring blue states like California. Polls also show some signs of weakness for Cornyn as well as President Trump, further raising hopes of a win in a state that has not elected a Democrat to the Senate since Lloyd Bentsen in 1988.

Even The Hill concedes that this race will be an uphill battle, possibly one that’s even tougher than the attempt to unseat Cruz. Former Republican adviser to Cruz David Polyansky made it clear that it’s more than just running a good race, it’s Democrats overcoming their own primary battle, which may become difficult with so many lining up to take part.

“They’re going to have to spend so much time and energy headed through the early part of next year not focused on Senator Cornyn, but focused on each other,” David Polyansky, former chief of staff and adviser to Cruz, said in an interview with The Hill.

“By the time May rolls around, they’re going to have a really short window to launch a statewide campaign that cleans up the carnage of not only a large but likely aggressive primary battle,” he continued.

But can Democrats win despite their positivity?

The answer is anything is possible, but with Cornyn, it’s not likely.

Democrats have many hurdles to overcome, themselves notwithstanding. Cornyn is a central political figure in Texas who has achieved a 37 percent approval from voters that outweighs his 31 percent disapproval. While it’s only a six-point difference, most other voters seem neutral about him at 33 percent according to an Emerson College/Dallas Morning News poll.

Democrats will have to attempt to win over these neutral voters in order to win, but winning them over will be a task in and of itself, especially with so many Democrats fighting amongst themselves. Furthermore, you have rising tide generated by President Trump elevating all Republican boats.

The Democrats main hopes revolve around recent transplants from coastal areas to Texas who they hope will bring their blue-state voting habits with them. Herein lies Cornyn’s biggest threat. New York and California have been seeing hundreds of thousands of people flooding into Texas for years.

A chunk of those people fled here to escape the oppressive regulations put on them by coastal states, but that includes companies who brought their blue state employees with them who only moved because they had to. While some may have learned the lesson that Democrat economic policies don’t work, it’s a safe bet to say they didn’t. It’s not at out of the realm of believability that they’d want to turn their new home into a fresh shade of purple, if not blue altogether.

It’s a very legitimate threat, but motivating them will be something the Democrats will have to put a lot of time and effort into, and it will be much harder than it was in 2018.

The reason O’Rourke came so close to beating Cruz was multi-faceted. O’Rourke was a young man who had no shortage of similarities with Barack Obama and played well on camera. He was easily marketable, not just to Texas Democrats, but the nation. Add to that his opponent, Cruz, who is one of the most hated figures by the left. Between his support for Trump and his Christian stances, Democrats from all over the United States salivated at the idea of bringing him down and put a lot of time, effort, and especially money into his defeat.

They still lost despite it all.

Not that they won’t put effort into demonizing Cornyn to generate the same effect. As my colleague Streiff wrote recently, CNN is already trying to label him a white supremacist.

This time we have a less nationally recognized candidate in Cornyn who already has a pretty solid political fortress in Texas. The national support won’t be as present as it was in 2018. It’s important to remember that O’Rourke wasn’t really a candidate with much of a record to speak for. The majority of his popularity was actually a result of hatred for Cruz from Democrats. Without that hatred, Democrats will have a momentum problem.

On top of that, Cornyn’s opponent will be someone who survived a gauntlet of other Democrat candidates to become the chosen challenger, but no one can overcome that many opponents without making enemies and creating friction along the way. Expect fallout from Democrats over a race that will likely get very contentious.

With less support and funds, it’s likely that Cornyn will come out the victor.

That said, Texans shouldn’t get comfortable. The blue injection Texas has gotten shouldn’t be underestimated and Republican voters shouldn’t get lazy. Getting out there to vote will be more important than ever if Texas is to keep its nice shade of crimson. Should the turnout falter, Democrats may finally have their foothold.

Illinois state senator: Hey, sorry for that mock Trump assassination at my fundraiser

Westlake Legal Group trump-mock-gun Illinois state senator: Hey, sorry for that mock Trump assassination at my fundraiser threat The Blog Illinois donald trump democrats assassination apology 2020 Elections

All Democrats have to do in 2020 is not be crazy. How’s that going? Er … not well, friends, not well at all:

A series of pictures posted online after a Friday night political fundraising event for state Senator Martin Sandoval (D-Chicago) show an event attendee pointing what appears to be a fake assault weapon at another person wearing a Mexican costume and a mask of President Donald Trump.

Donors paid a minimum of $250 to attend Sandoval’s golf outing at the Klein Creek Golf Club in west suburban Winfield. A woman who attended the event posted the photos to her Facebook page on Saturday and tagged Sandoval in them. Sandoval is pictured separately posing with the man who held the fake weapon, but it remains unclear if the Senator knew about the incident when it occurred.

The mock assassination pose drew quick, bipartisan condemnation from Governor J.B. Pritzker, the Illinois Democratic Party, and from the Illinois Republican Party alike.

Rule 1 for all political fundraisers in 2020: No weapons. Rule 2: No cosplay. We can play the “imagine if a Republican did this” game all day long, but how many GOP candidates have costume-party fundraisers like this in the first place? (We’re more into charades. Come at me, fact-checker bros.)

This time, though, the media reaction was significant enough that the candidate — who chairs an important state senate committee — issued an apology. NBC News even avoided the “what’s my party” game, although given the circumstances, they had little choice:

A Democratic state senator from Illinois, Martin Sandoval, apologized this weekend after viral photos showed an incident that happened at one of his fundraisers: a man pointed what appeared to be a fake assault weapon at another person wearing a mask of President Donald Trump.

“The incident that took place is unacceptable,” Sandoval told central Illinois CBS affiliate WCIA in an emailed statement. “I don’t condone violence toward the President or anyone else. I apologize that something like this happened at my event.”

At least this was an actual apology, if somewhat passive-voiced. “Something like this happened at my event” doesn’t tell us much about who did it and why, although Sandoval takes tacit responsibility for it. State GOP chair Tim Schneider replied that Sandoval’s apology isn’t enough:

“Dangerous imagery like this will be condemned and seen as inappropriate by people of sound mind; however, a mentally unstable individual who wants to harm President Trump might find them as an inspiration,” he wrote. “It’s inexcusable for an elected official to allow the promotion of violence in any way. If the individual pictured is a staffer or volunteer, they should be terminated immediately.”

One has to wonder about the mental acuity of the people who’d do this in the first place, especially at a fundraiser for a politician. Who thought this was a good idea? Especially this week? Sandoval should identify the people behind this incident, if for no other reason than to make sure they don’t contribute more of their deep thoughts to any other candidate in this cycle.

“I have not been comfortable with Bernie’s plan”: Kamala Harris inches away from Medicare for All

Westlake Legal Group kh-3 “I have not been comfortable with Bernie’s plan”: Kamala Harris inches away from Medicare for All warren The Blog public option progressive private insurance medicare for all kamala harris democrats biden Bernie Sanders Allahpundit

Harris is so slippery on this topic that it’s hard to identify true shifts in her position versus “just get me through this moment” rhetorical idling. She co-sponsored Bernie’s Medicare for All bill in the Senate last year, hoping to protect her left flank ahead of a presidential run. When she and the other candidates were asked point-blank at one of the debates this summer whether they’d be comfortable eliminating all private health insurance — which is what Medicare for All means, don’tcha know — she raised her hand in favor. But those poll numbers are stubborn: Although Americans very much like the idea of a public option and are at least curious about MFA, they turn squeamish once you start nudging them about getting rid of private insurance plans.

And so, the day after the debate, she claimed that she’d misheard the question. Until late last month, before she rolled out her new plan, she was also prone to saying in interviews that her vision of Medicare for All *wouldn’t* mean the end of private insurance. Only when badgered by interviewers into explaining what that means would she admit that the only private insurance that would survive under her plan was “supplementary” coverage. Health coverage would in fact be monopolized by the government.

Oh, and unlike Bernie, at times she’s seemed to have no idea for how she’d pay for the program.

Trying to have it both ways has led to more than one awkward moment for her this year so maybe she’s decided not to do that anymore. Her polls are tanking, which seems like an opportune moment for a campaign reset on this issue. Did that moment arrive yesterday?

“I believe in capitalism, but capitalism is not working for most people,” Harris said on the patio steps of the Patricof house, looking out at a peach orchard among flower and herb beds. She said she recognized people who’ve become successful by working hard and following rules, but that the middle class needs help.

Harris again tried to clarify her stance on health care, a topic that tripped her up in the early Democratic debates. “I have not been comfortable with Bernie’s plan,” she said of Sanders’ Medicare for All proposal, and explained how a Harris administration would leave room for private insurance.

Once again: She co-sponsored Bernie’s plan. There’s not much to go on from those barebones quotes, although the explicit nod at capitalism (this was a fundraiser in the Hamptons, to be sure) is notable. But she was more emphatic in a chat with a WaPo reporter last week:

“People want choice.” She’s not wrong.

The way she’s going to “make this circle fit into a square” is — for the moment — with her new health-care plan, which she rolled out just three weeks ago. It’s Medicare for All but with two key tweaks: Private insurers wouldn’t be eliminated but would be allowed to offer the equivalent of “Medicare Advantage” plans; and, instead of paying for the program with middle-class tax hikes, Harris is somehow going to do it with taxes on Wall Street or something. The new plan lets Harris argue that she hasn’t entirely abandoned MFA while also letting her claim that her system will save the private health insurance plans that Americans seem to like so much.

But of course, it can’t. Private health insurers can’t compete with an institution like government that can afford to operate at a loss, especially in a system like Harris’s where the government is able to set the terms of what private insurers need to offer in their plans. Philip Klein:

In her vision, within 10 years, all Americans would transition into a government-run Medicare system. She would allow private companies to administer Medicare plans as they do currently within Medicare Advantage. But the more important question for individuals is not whether, a decade from now, they may be able to purchase a plan that is issued by a private company. The more relevant question is whether they will be able to keep the insurance that they’ve purchased either individually or through their employers, and under the revised Harris plan, the answer is no

Harris pitches a 10-year transition period, but the reality is that Americans are likely to see their employer coverage go away long before that. She would allow all Americans to “buy in” to Medicare immediately and promises that the new plan would, “cover all medically necessary services, including emergency room visits, doctor visits, vision, dental, hearing aids, mental health, and substance use disorder treatment, and comprehensive reproductive health care services.”

But the more generous the new plan promises to be, the faster that the employer-based insurance system will erode, as businesses decide to dump workers on the new government plan. So that means many people happy with their current plan would lose their coverage and have no choice but to enroll in the government plan well before the 10-year period comes up for the elimination of all employer insurance.

Your “choice” is between a “free” government plan and a very expensive private plan that covers all the same stuff, and since that’s not much of a choice, employers aren’t going to bother preserving it. Cheaper catastrophic coverage won’t be an option. And needless to say, Wall Street won’t remotely be able to pay for comprehensive coverage for the entire population by itself. Sanders’s plan at least has the virtue of admitting that the middle class will need to step up. Klein’s verdict on Harris’s plan is perfectly accurate: It’s “unserious.” It’s the sort of thing a candidate proposes when they’re not interested in actually solving a policy problem but very much interested in staying on the right side of all of the different constituencies to which they’re pandering in a primary. Medicare for All and some role for private insurance and a free lunch for the middle class? It checks every box, so that’s the Kamala Harris plan.

Which is very much in keeping with her primary strategy generally. Say what you need to win, worry about cleaning it up later.

The question raised by the new comments, though, is whether she’s still completely behind her new plan or whether she’s already begun to shift from that. Don’t put it past her: She’s so eager to find a sweet spot on health care, and so willing to keep repositioning to stay on the right side of voters, that she may have already begun to drift towards a public option a la Joe Biden as her endgame. That’s the health-care proposal that polls best among Democratic voters so that’s the one Harris naturally has her eye on. The more it seems like the left is unwinnable to her, the more tempted she’s going to be to drift towards the center and try to elbow past Biden as the centrist alternative to Sanders and Warren. I’d be surprised if her plan for health care hasn’t shifted again by New Year’s.

Here she is last week getting an earful.

Former El Paso Congressman Beto O’Rourke is now on his second (or is it the third?) attempt at rebooting his failing presidential campaign, and two of his biggest priorities in his latest reboot are taking on what he calls President Trump’s “racism” and “the gun lobby.”

In the immediate aftermath of the horrific El Paso mass shooting earlier this month which left 22 dead and dozens more injured, O’Rourke stated a mandatory gun buyback program “absolutely has to be part of the conversation.” He noted he would be open to one in the event he was elected President:

“It absolutely has to be part of the conversation. And at the end of the day, if it’s going to save lives, if it’s going to prevent the kinds of tragedies that we saw in El Paso or Gilroy or Dayton or this weekend in Chicago or all over this country on a daily basis, then let’s move forward and do it,” O’Rourke said on the podcast “Pod Save America” when asked if he’d be open to mandatory gun buyback programs or gun licenses, referencing shootings in other cities in recent days.

On Friday, the O’Rourke campaign posted the candidate’s gun control plan at his website which included, among other things, a call for a mandatory buyback program for “weapons of war.”

Over the weekend, O’Rourke made an unannounced visit to a gun show in the red state of Arkansas to talk to gun owners on their thoughts about his ever-evolving gun control plan. Several media outlets including CBS News and The Hill described O’Rourke as being back on the campaign trail after a “12-day hiatus” in response the El Paso mass shooting.

In reality, O’Rourke never really stopped campaigning.

Beto talked about his visit to Arkansas on Twitter over the weekend. Here’s what he said:

The NRA took notice – and responded:

O’Rourke clapped back:

Not to be outdone, the NRA posted back:

The NRA makes an important point here that can’t be overstated. In debates about gun control and gun rights, what often gets lost in the heated rhetoric is the use of the correct terminology. For example, to some a “weapon of war” could be something as simple as a pistol.

Gun control activists often deliberately distort the meaning of certain words, terms (and laws) to confuse voters on the issue in an effort to bring them over to their side. It’s vitally important in these debates that everyone be on the same page when it comes to the meaning behind the words/terminology used so there is no confusion.

Honest and informed discussions are the best kind of discussions.

Beto: “Our country was founded on racism – and is still racist today”

Westlake Legal Group Beto-smiling Beto: “Our country was founded on racism – and is still racist today” United States Third Annual Clinton Dinner The Blog racism democrats Beto O'Rourke Arkansas

Presidential primary candidate Beto O’Rourke has an unusual message for Democrat voters. America was founded on racism and America is still a racist country today, 243 years later. How’s that for an inspiring message?

Beto’s re-launch of his presidential campaign is off to a rocky start, just like the previous re-launches. This time around he’s gone to a dark place and now insists that racism in America is his primary concern. He went off on a tangent Saturday night as the speaker at the third annual Arkansas Democratic Party Clinton Dinner in Little Rock.

In the clip of his speech, you can hear Beto go through a laundry list of grievances that white Americans have brought about, in his line of thinking. More white people are wealthy, more minorities are imprisoned, children of color suffer in school at the hands of racist teachers, and so on. He shifted from that opening statement to his version of American history and race relations.

O’Rourke describes slaves from West Africa building America and then claims America went on to “deny their ancestors the meaningful opportunity to enjoy in the wealth that they have created.” This is the worst kind of race-baiting hyperbole and it denies America’s true greatness. The greatness of America lies in the fact that though our founders were slave-owners, America is the only democratic republic in history to abolish slavery. The Civil War, where over 600,000 soldiers were killed, was fought over slavery and economic issues. The Republican Party was established as an anti-slavery party in the 1850s.

Is race-baiting and dividing Americans the only arrow in O’Rourke’s quiver? Perhaps it is. All you have to do is listen to an interview with him and you quickly find out that Beto is an empty suit. He offers no policy initiatives or ideas in a conversation. He simply pieces together standard talking points and buzzwords and it all comes out as word salad. Apparently, he has decided that delivering a message of liberal white guilt is the way to go. It is particularly rich coming from a man who is the beneficiary of a privileged life. He falls up in life.

After the phony Russian collusion narrative failed to take down President Trump, the Democrats settled on the charge that President Trump and Republicans, in general, are racist. This is nothing new for Democrats as they have employed this tactic for decades against Republicans but today’s Democrats have taken it to a new level of vitriol. We now hear Democrats running for president calling Trump a white supremacist. This also implies that his supporters are white supremacists. He said in the speech, “It was only until this administration and this president that that racism was invited out into the open.”

Democrats, including O’Rourke, have little to run on. The economy is doing well and that is why you now hear talk about a recession hovering just around the corner. Democrats know that as long as the economy hums along and record employment rates continue in literally every category imaginable, President Trump’s chance of re-election is good. Instead of uplifting people to garner their vote, O’Rourke has decided to divide along racial lines. He is really just that shallow.

Speaking of “denying” black people “the meaningful opportunity to enjoy in the wealth that they have created” (word salad), the irony of O’Rourke’s hateful rhetoric is that President Trump’s economic policies have provided minority populations in America with unprecedented opportunity. Unemployment is at all-time lows for black Americans, Hispanics, young people, women, and blue-collar workers.

Maybe Beto has forgotten that Americans elected President Obama. Twice. He should be reminded that Michelle Obama pointed out that she lived in the White House, built with the help of slaves, therefore acknowledging the opportunities she and her husband embraced to get there. She delivered the remarks at the Democrat National Convention in 2016 in Philadelphia.

That is the story of this country, the story that has brought me to this stage tonight, the story of generations of people who felt the lash of bondage, the shame of servitude, the sting of segregation, but who kept on striving and hoping and doing what needed to be done so that today I wake up every morning in a house that was built by slaves. And I watch my daughters, two beautiful, intelligent, black young women playing with their dogs on the White House lawn.

As is typical for Beto, he said the “responsibility to respond” is on all of us yet offered no suggestions or ideas. He just wants to point his bony finger and name-call, especially against President Trump. He’s all emotion and no logic. As I write this, Beto is ranked at 2.8% in the Real Clear Politics average. Maybe he should go back to jumping up on counters and bust out the skateboard again.

I’ll end with this little nugget. At the beginning of the program, Beto took part in the Calling of the Hogs. Enjoy.

Fundraiser For IL State Senator Featured Simulated Assassination of President Trump; Anyone Recall The MO State Fair’s Rodeo Clown?

Photos taken at a Friday night fundraiser for IL State Sen. Martin Sandoval, a Democrat, who represents Illinois’ 11th District, went viral on social media over the weekend. The pictures, which appear in the tweet below, show a supporter pointing a fake machine gun at a man dressed in Mexican garb and wearing a Trump mask, who then pretends to be shot, “grabbing his chest and leaning back.”

According to WCIA 3, a local station, Sandoval issued an apology on Sunday saying that, “I don’t condone violence toward the President or anyone else. I apologize that something like this happened at my event.”

Sandoval appears in one photo standing next to the man who had held the gun. It’s not clear whether or not Sandoval had seen the mock assassination. Either way, he has called the incident “unacceptable.”

State Democratic leaders condemned the action. Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker released a statement on Saturday night in which he said, “As our nation grapples with the epidemic of gun violence, purposely pointing a fake gun at anyone is insensitive and wrong. I condemn actions like the ones displayed in the pictures because they lack the civility our politics demand.”

A spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Illinois, Maura Possley, said, “The tragedies in El Paso and Gilroy have demonstrated how hate-filled political rhetoric can fuel violence. These images are unacceptable and dangerous. The place to make our voices heard against Trump is at the ballot box.”

The local Democrats said all the right words, yet episodes like this happen all the time. Talk of violence or simulated acts of violence directed at the President seem to be perfectly acceptable by many on the left. Think Madonna, Johnny Depp, Kathy Griffin and many others. Even Joe Biden told supporters recently that if the two were in high school, “I’d beat the hell out of him.” Robert DeNiro said he would like to punch him in the face. And we’ve all seen one or two of the numerous paintings which portray Trump covered in blood.

Illinois Republican Party Chairman Tim Schneider issued a statement as well:

The apology from Sen. Sandoval for the detestable pictures from his event depicting an assassination of President Trump is too little, too late. Dangerous imagery like this will be condemned and seen as inappropriate by people of sound mind; however, a mentally unstable individual who wants to harm President Trump might find them as an inspiration. It’s inexcusable for an elected official to allow the promotion of violence in any way. If the individual pictured is a staffer or volunteer, they should be terminated immediately.

The double standard rears its ugly head again. Does anyone remember the uproar which ensued in August of 2013 after a rodeo clown at the Missouri State Fair mocked then-President Obama?

During the bull riding competition, a clown put on an Obama mask and attached a broom to his backside. CNN reported:

Rodeo announcer Mark Ficken, president of the Missouri Cowboy Rodeo Association and a school superintendent, announced a special guest: “President Obama.”

Another voice is heard over the loudspeaker working up the crowd and saying, “We’re going to stomp Obama now.”

“As soon as this bull comes out, Obama, don’t you move,” the second voice said. “He’s going to getcha, getcha getcha, getcha.”

I won’t bore you with the details, let’s just say the backlash reached epic proportions.

In Completely Unexpected Twist, Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib Promote Anti-Semitism Again

By now, the dust is starting to settle from Israel barring Representatives Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib from entering the country. This was done for several legitimate reasons, including the fact that they were breaking Israeli law by trying to promote the anti-Semitic boycott, divestment, and sanction movement. They also refused to even call their trip one to Israel, instead labeling it entirely “Palestine,” a place which doesn’t exist.

Afterward, Tlaib requested a humanitarian visa to visit the West Bank. Israel granted it with the only stipulation being that she can’t break their laws by promoting BDS. After making the request and it being approved, Tlaib then ran to social media to proclaim she couldn’t possibly visit under such conditions.

It was yet another stunt in what was clearly an ill intentioned play from the beginning. These women were going to stir up more resentment (and violence, even if not directly) against Israel. That was the goal and their actions have been made clearer as the days have passed.

Not content with letting the matter lie though, both Congresswomen decided to make doubly sure we know who they are over the weekend. In a shocking, completely unexpected twist (ok, I’m lying), they both shared a cartoon by a rabidly anti-Semitic man.

First, can I just point out the absurdity of two women who literally never stop ranting complaining about being silenced? They do not have a right to go to Israel to stump for its destruction. That seems pretty basic, right?

So, who is Carlos Latuff?

Here’s a short bio via Wikipedia (sourced with links).

Carlos Latuff (born 30 November 1968) is a Brazilian freelance political cartoonist.[1] His works deal with an array of themes, including anti-Zionism, anti-globalization, anti-capitalism, and opposition to U.S. military intervention. He is best known for his images depicting the Israeli–Palestinian conflict and the Arab Spring events.

Sounds like a completely normal, not at all anti-American source. Promoting the disastrous Arab Spring, “anti-capitalism,” and “anti-Zionism.” Of course his worse sin is his rabid anti-Semitism. He won Iran’s “Holocaust Cartoon Contest” in 2006 because that’s a real thing apparently.

Latuff’s background isn’t in question. This is two Congressional members with anti-Semitic histories of their own sharing the work of someone so blatantly anti-Semitic that he makes fun of the Holocaust.

But if you flip on the news, there’s no story here apparently. The only sources reporting this are the New York Post, Fox News, and various other right-leaning outlets. The same media who lose their every loving minds if the President shares a wrestling meme of CNN can’t find any time in their firefighting schedules to condemn another act of anti-Semitism on the part of half the much ballyhooed “squad.”

None of this is accidental at this point. This is who these women are. Anti-Semitism is ingrained in their thinking. They won’t be persuaded or swayed by facts counter to their warped world view. America is going to have to decide whether they accept or reject this.

CNN and Democrats Run Defense for Antifa Again, Label the Attackers “Peaceful” Despite Clear Evidence

Westlake Legal Group Capture-3-620x351 CNN and Democrats Run Defense for Antifa Again, Label the Attackers “Peaceful” Despite Clear Evidence white supremacists republicans Portland Politics Oregon officials Front Page Stories Featured Story donald trump democrats CNN antifa Allow Media Exception

“The most trusted name in news” is back to make you wonder whether or not we should send them screenshots containing the definitions of “trusted” and “news.” The consistent bronze medal finisher of cable news, CNN, seems to think that the violent group “Antifa” is worthy of defense yet again.

As both my colleague Alex Parker and I have written about previously, Antifa showed up in force to oppose Trump supporters at a Portland event over the weekend. Weapons were used by Antifa, including chunks of concrete, hammers, and more to physically attack those they considered to be their opponents. One man was beaten viciously and mocked while his wife attempted to protect him.

The evidence is undeniable. Antifa is a violent group that will gather together hordes of people in order to attack and intimidate those that disagree with them in any capacity.

But to CNN and elected Democrat officials, they are the good guys.

Democratic New Mexico Rep. Deb Haaland appeared on the news network to discuss Antifa in Portland. After briefly discussing a tweet by Trump saying that there is “major consideration” for calling Antifa a terrorist organization and that Portland is being watched closely.

The CNN hostess first said that there is no government agency capable of designating a group as a domestic terrorist organization. This is mostly true, as there is no official list of domestic terrorist organizations, though some government bodies may label certain groups as such. The Obama administration’s DHS suggestively labeled Tea Partiers as potential domestic terrorists at one time.

Haaland was asked to give a reaction to the tweet, and what followed was one of the most nonsensical defenses of a violent group I’ve ever seen.

Haaland began with the typical “orange man white supremacist who incites violence” narrative you hear on repeat lately. This lead into Haaland calling Portland a “progressive city” and that it’s no surprise that Trump would side against the “peaceful protesters working to safeguard their city from domestic terrorism.”

And with that, the interview was quickly over.

Let me break this down. A major media organization just brought on an elected Democrat official who proceeded to call the President a white supremacist and label the group physically attacking people with deadly weapons “peaceful protesters” who are trying to protect a city.

This is absolute lunacy and proof that the left has gone far off the deep end and right into delusion. Trump is not a white supremacist and he’s proven that repeatedly. Antifa is not a peaceful group, and they have proven that repeatedly. Yet here is the established left attempting to paint the entire situation as if they’re angels fighting a great evil.

If you were to strip away the chyrons and cameras and change the expensive outfits to regular street clothes, you would think these women were absolutely insane and not worth listening to. However, because they have a platform supported by millions of dollars, they are going to be taken seriously.

Because of this, the left will only fall deeper into delusion and Antifa will only grow in power and become more dangerous. This is absolutely irresponsible and a very real threat to our society. There’s fake news, and then there’s fake news that foments very real violence.

CNN and the Democrats are engaging in the latter.
