Joe Biden Beclowns Himself (Again) as He Repudiates the Founding Fathers on the Reason for the Second Amendment

Westlake Legal Group befuddled-biden-620x317 Joe Biden Beclowns Himself (Again) as He Repudiates the Founding Fathers on the Reason for the Second Amendment second amendment Politics Joe Biden Iowa Guns gun control Front Page Stories Featured Story democrats Allow Media Exception 2A

There is literally zero doubt that the Founding Fathers visualized an armed citizenry as a bulwark against government overreach and tyranny. The fear of an overpowering central government supported by a standing army was very, very real to the Founders. Within the lives of their grandfathers, they had seen Oliver Cromwell convert his victorious New Model Army into an instrument of political and social oppression during his Protectorate, particularly the Rule of the Major Generals. They were well aware of the biennial Mutiny Acts which forbade the British army from owning its own transport, using certain roads, and from entering chartered cities without approval of the city government.

History aside, the gun-grabbers, since the Heller decision recognized the Second Amendment as the individual right that it is rather than some kind of bastardized group right, have been struggling to come up with an excuse to undercut the right to bear arms that will fit within the law of the land. What they have turned to is the argument that the Second Amendment is archaic. That, yeah, it might have once been true that a citizen militia could defeat a well-equipped and well-trained military but that is no longer the case. The Booker-esque loser from California, Eric Swalwell once addressed the issue of an armed citizenry being a brake on a tyrannical government this way:

That’s right, Swalwell actually said that if the citizens got too frisky they would be nuked by their own government. Since that time, this argument has been a staple among the left on Twitter. It was trotted out again by Joe Biden this past weekend:

“Folks, don’t apologize at all about the Second Amendment,” Biden advised, explaining how the amendment allows for limitations on who can own a weapon and what type. “These guys will tell you, the tree of liberty is watered with the blood of patriots. Give me a break.”

“Can you go out and buy a flamethrower? Can you go out and buy an F-15?” he added. “If you want to protect yourself against the federal government, you’re going to need at least an F-15.”

Well, actually you can buy a flamethrower.

What is rather unique about Biden’s statement is that he’s clearly dismissive of the origins of the Second Amendment. He seems blithely unaware of the unhappy fate of armies confronted with widespread resistance and he also seems cheerfully eager to use force to confiscate weapons.

With great regularity, technologically superior armies who lacked political will have been laid low by smaller and more inferior armies because the larger army lacked the will. One prime example is the Irish War of Independence. Other examples more painfully close to home in time are Vietnam and Afghanistan. The very fact that a popular revolt MIGHT happen often encourages an out-of-control government to act responsibly…here I’m thinking of the various run-ins the Bundys of Nevada have had with the feds over the years. The tack taken by Biden and Swalwell also assumes that the Armed Forces would actually participate in an effort to confiscate firearms or that they would turn their firepower on their fellow citizens. My belief is that any situation that required the military to take arms against millions of their countrymen would soon find the military voting “present” if not actively defecting and collaborating.

All that aside, Biden’s logic simply doesn’t exist. The presence of a large mass of armed citizens in the “unorganized militia of the United States” [see 10 U.S. Code § 246. Militia: composition and classes] is both a safety net in the case of insurrection or invasion and a safeguard of the Constitution in the face of an oppressive federal or state government. There is no requirement that a regular force be met weapon system for weapon system, for, as they say, it isn’t the size of the dog in the fight, it is size of the fight in the dog. Any cause large enough to unleash the military upon the citizenry is going to have an immediate, strong, and deleterious effect upon the military organization that is supposed to carry out the orders.

BREAKING : Holy f’k. Seventy- two killed resisting gun confiscation in Boston.

National Guard units seeking to confiscate a cache of recently banned assault weapons were ambushed by elements of a Para-military extremist faction.

Military and law enforcement sources estimate that 72 were killed and more than 200 injured before government forces were compelled to withdraw.
Speaking after the clash, Governor Thomas Gage declared that the extremist faction, which was made up of local citizens, has links to the radical right-wing tax protest movement.
Gage blamed the extremists for recent incidents of vandalism directed against internal revenue offices. The governor, who described the group’s organizers as “criminals,” just issued an executive order authorizing the summary arrest of any individual who has interfered with the government’s efforts to secure law and order.
The military raid on the extremist arsenal followed wide-spread refusal by the local citizenry to turn over recently outlawed assault weapons.
Gage issued a ban on military-style assault weapons and ammunition earlier in the week. This decision followed a meeting in early this month between government and military leaders at which the governor authorized the forcible confiscation of illegal arms.
One government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, pointed out that “none of these people would have been killed had the extremists obeyed the law and turned over their weapons voluntarily.”
Government troops initially succeeded in confiscating a large supply of outlawed weapons and ammunition. However, troops attempting to seize arms and ammunition in Lexington met with resistance from heavily-armed extremists who had been tipped off regarding the government’s plans.
During a tense standoff in the Lexington town park, National Guard Colonel Francis Smith, commander of the government operation, ordered the armed group to surrender and return to their homes. The impasse was broken by a single shot, which was reportedly fired by one of the right-wing extremists.
Eight civilians were killed in the ensuing exchange.
Ironically, the local citizenry blamed government forces rather than the extremists for the civilian deaths. Before order could be restored, armed citizens from surrounding areas had descended upon the guard units.
Colonel Smith, finding his forces over matched by the armed mob, ordered a retreat.
Governor Gage has called upon citizens to support the state/national joint task force in its effort to restore law and order.
The governor also demanded the surrender of those responsible for planning and leading the attack against the government troops.
Samuel Adams, Paul Revere, and John Hancock, who have been identified as “ringleaders” of the extremist faction, remain at large.
And this fellow Americans, is how the American Revolution began, April 20, 1775.
On July 4th, 1776 these same “extremists” as Bill Mitchell calls them, signed the Declaration of Independence, pledging to each other and their countrymen their lives, fortunes, & sacred honor. Many of them lost everything, over the course of the next few years. Lest we forget..

August 9th was the 5th anniversary of the shooting death of Michael Brown by Ferguson, MO police officer Darren Wilson.

The 2014 case was one that further strained racial divisions in America, in no small part thanks to the “hands up, don’t shoot” narrative pushed by Democrats, liberal commentators, and left-wing journalists that later turned out to be false.

As Bonchie wrote over the weekend, several 2020 Democratic candidates for president posted tweets on Friday noting the anniversary of Brown’s death, including Sens. Elizabeth Warren (MA) and Kamala Harris (CA).

In both of their tweets, Harris and Warren stated that Brown, a black teenager, had been “murdered.” In Warren’s tweet, she noted the alleged “murder” had taken place at the hands of a “white officer”:

While it’s true Wilson is white, both tweets were egregious and deserving of being challenged by the mainstream media. Especially when you consider that the conclusions President Barack Obama’s Justice Department drew were quite different. But to the surprise of almost no one, neither Senator was questioned by a member of the press regarding their revisionist history.

Former Fox News “Special Report” host and longtime journalist Brit Hume corrected Warren in particular, and in a later tweet pointed out the media’s silence on the matter:

I suspect the main reason Harris’s and Warren’s falsehoods about Wilson and Brown have gotten little to no coverage is because many of the very reporters charged with keeping politicians accountable and truthful were active participants in perpetuating the “hands up, don’t shoot” lie to begin with.

In response to the erroneous tweets from 2020 Democratic candidates on this issue, Sharyl Attkisson wrote a detailed analysis of both the case and the media’s coverage of it that is well-worth reading, especially when you consider the contemporary racially-inflammatory lies Democrats and the MSM have pushed regarding President Trump’s “very fine people” Charlottesville comments as well as his remarks on MS-13 gangs.

Attkisson’s spot-on conclusion is one you won’t see many in the mainstream media amplify for obvious reasons:

Ferguson, based on the findings of the Obama Justice Department, isn’t an example of bad policing run amok or racism. It’s a tragic case of media malpractice ruining the life of a police officer who was found to have done nothing other than defend himself.

Indeed. Unfortunately, that malpractice the media and Democrats alike routinely engage in on these issues shows no signs of letting up.

De Blasio’s Iowa Event Brought In Beyond Pitiful Numbers and Gets Roasted by the Internet

New York Mayor and 2020 candidate Bill de Blasio was just chillin’ in Cedar Rapids for a campaign event at the Parlor City Pub…

…and only 15 people showed up according to the New York Post:

“Everything should be about our families, our lives, what everyday people are going through, what working people are going through,” de Blasio told the crowd, which numbered around 15 — not counting the press corps, campaign staff and Iowa state Sen. Rob Hogg, the event organizer.

“If we as Democrats are talking about that, we’re winning,” said de Blasio, before reiterating his campaign slogan, “Working people first.”

“Here’s the bottom line: We have a country that’s favored the 1 percent now for literally 40 years,” said de Blasio. “The rich have gotten richer. Everybody else has been pretty much treading water.”

It gets worse when you consider the fact that the people who did show up weren’t exactly on board with everything de Blasio was talking about, making them sound more like people who just so happened to stumble into the pub for other reasons and wound up at a de Blasio event unintentionally:

The pitch was met with a mixed reception by the few there to hear it.

“I liked a lot of what he said,” offered Carol Wickey, a 78-year-old retiree. “[But] I thought in his prepared comments he focused too much on working people.”

Wickey said that she feared the divisive tone would drive a wedge between Democratic voters and ultimately wasn’t sold.

“He did not say anything that would sway me that he would be my choice as a candidate,” she said. “Nothing made him stand out among the other two dozen people.”

Geoff Johnson had a similar takeaway, reacting somewhat fondly to many of de Blasio’s ideas, but questioning whether he had enough faith in the campaign’s “viability” to caucus for Hizzoner.

“There are 25 candidates,” said the 40-year-old call center worker. “He’s fairly high on the list, but I’m not sure he quite makes the top five at this point, but some of that may just be because of the viability situation.”

Adding insult to injury, Twitter did not let de Blasio’s shameful turnout to go unpunished.

De Blasio hasn’t been doing well during the 2020 race to the White House at all. In fact, his inclusion into the race has drudged up more anger over the fact that positivity, with one in 12 Democrats saying they’d be angry if he won the Democrat nomination.

Conservative Iowa family tells MSNBC they’re pulling for Kamala Harris over Trump next year

Well, not the whole family. The two women are on Team Harris whereas dad, who voted for Trump in 2016, is keeping his options open.

Which is a nice microcosm of the electorate writ large. Ladies are anti-Trump, dudes prefer him to most Democrats head to head.

Don’t ask me why this clip is getting so much attention online today, with 850,000 Twitter views and counting as I write this. I think political junkies are naturally attracted to evidence of potentially seismic political shifts in middle America, even if the sample size of this particular survey is, uh, three. There’s Harris momentum in the heartland. Look out, Trump.

The flip side of Democrats overhyping the clip, of course, is that righties in some dark corner of the Internet are doubtless working hard to prove that these three are actually co-chairmen of the Ames Democratic Party or whatever and were planted by the DNC. Why, there simply must be a sinister alternate explanation to their preference for Harris. It’s unimaginable that salt-of-the-earth people from flyover country who lean right might prefer a Democrat to our national savior.

The critiques of Trump by mother and daughter here are essentially moral but I wonder how much the local economic bottom line is hurting his standing in Iowa. A local Democratic official told The Hill today, “What I’m hearing a lot about is the tariffs and I do think the tariffs are starting to really hurt the president’s standing in the state and hurt the Republican Party’s standing in the state.” At last check Trump’s job approval in Iowa was net -11; he won the state in 2016 by 10 points. That may be the single biggest change in a state that went red three years ago, although he’s also underwater at the moment in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin (-14!), and even Ohio.

The Wall Street Journal noted this morning that, for American businesses, 10 percent tariffs on Chinese goods are manageable but 25 percent tariffs are something else entirely.

When the Trump administration first imposed 10% tariffs on many Chinese goods about a year ago, suppliers, importers, distributors and retailers worked together to defray the cost and try to avoid passing it on to consumers for fear of losing sales. Mr. Stone and his Chinese partners initially ate most of the vinyl flooring tariff cost, passing just a tad on to retailers.

Tariffs at the 25% level are quite another matter. They are upending cost projections and business models and straining relationships built up over decades. For operations such as Mr. Stone’s, the math is painful. He and others are trying to figure out how much of the new expense can be dispersed throughout the supply chain, how much should be passed to customers, at what potential cost in lost sales, and how much they must swallow…

“This is a chaos moment. If I pay the tariffs, I don’t have any money,” said Mr. Stone.

Retaliatory measures taken by China, meanwhile, are a dagger aimed at American agriculture. Beijing said last week that it would suspend all purchases of American agriculture products to hit back at Trump for the most recent round of tariffs. A few days ago, some exasperated farmers told CNBC that “Trump is ruining our markets” via the escalating trade war:

Kuylen, who farms roughly 1,500 acres of wheat and sunflowers, lost $70 per acre this year, despite growing good crops. Current government subsidies only cover about $15 per acre, he said.

“There’s no incentive to keep farming, except that I’ve invested everything I have in farming, and it’s hard to walk away,” he said.

“When four to five generations ahead of you have succeeded, and you come along and fail, you don’t see it as not your fault. You snap.”

The president of North Dakota’s Farmers Union said he lost three bucks on every bushel of soybeans he planted this year, with U.S. exports of soybeans to China falling 75 percent in the span of nine months between last September and May of this year. Other farmers are calling for an increase in federal subsidies to get them through this, as the latest bailout just isn’t enough. China might even start tariffing U.S. agricultural products that it’s already agreed to purchase.

If you’re thinking, “Well, at least Trump has a top team of advisors around him who know what they’re doing by escalating with China,” note this WaPo piece from last week. Increasingly he’s running the trade war himself — sometimes even against his advisors’ advice. Reportedly John Bolton, Mick Mulvaney, and Larry Kudlow all opposed the most recent round of tariffs on China. “We’re learning that maybe China has a higher pain threshold than we thought here,” said Stephen Moore, one of Trump’s recent aborted nominees to the Fed, to WaPo. “They don’t seem to care that this is having extreme negative effects on their economy. It’s kind of a mutually assured destruction game right now.”

Trump 2020: Mutually assured economic destruction with China. It could work in Iowa. Maybe?

Exit question: How’d the two women in the clip above land on Kamala Harris instead of Joe Biden? Biden’s the closest thing to a right-winger in the Dem primary, no?

Some people can’t understand the concept of defending oneself against deadly attacks.

On Sunday, actress-turned-ill-informed-political-bullhorner Alyssa Milano tweeted the following:

“BREAKING: UNFATHOMABLE! The NRA is seeking MORE constitutional protection for guns. While McConnell is doing nothing to protect us from gun violence, Dem Senators are filing an amicus brief tomorrow in the Supreme Court to stop them.”

“Unfathomable.”

Odd; it’s unfathomable that she thinks it’s unfathomable.

The outspoken tweeter notes the need to “protect us from gun violence.”

Ultimately, there’s only one thing that can protect us from gun violence: gun violence.

That’s the whole point of being able to own a firearm for self-defense.

That’s why the police carry them — there’s no other way to adequately protect themselves from bad guys who have guns and won’t obey the murder laws.

Shouldn’t the fact that there’s a black thing with a handle and trigger on the hip of every cop clue people into what’s the best defense against gun violence?

It’s like Ice-T said: “I’ll give up my guns when everyone else [gives up theirs].”

The reason we have mass murder is that some people won’t obey the law against it.

And that leaves us with a significant question: How do you protect yourself against people who don’t obey the law?

Some on the Left have an answer: Make a law.

I’ll say that again, because the nonsensical nature of it bears repeating: Some on the Left believe the way to trip up and score over those who don’t obey the law is to snare them with…a law.

BOOM!

Mission accomplished.

via GIPHY

How is it possible someone could think that?

They’re not listening to the question.

The answer is “the right to defend oneself.” With equal or greater armament.

You cannot be protected by a law from those who don’t obey laws.

Can someone get this on a T-shirt, and fast? Or write it in the sky? How can the message be delivered to those who believe the very thing someone won’t do is the very thing they will always do?

You can’t defend yourself against an attacker with garlic unless they’re Dracula. You can’t protect yourself against an assaulter with Kryptonite unless they’re Superman. You can’t fight back against an assailant with water unless they’re the aliens from Signs or the Wicked Witch of the West.

And you can’t defend against an attacker with a law unless they’re a law-abiding citizen.

To not understand this is…unfathomable.

The staff and security for Democratic socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders got a little overzealous in their jobs while the Vermont 2020 candidate attended the Iowa state fair over the weekend.

According to the Washington Examiner, members of the press were doing what the press does and jockeying for position to get the best picture or spot to ask the Senator a question. In reaction, his security and staff began manhandling the press, shoving and grabbing them as they went:

The confrontation erupted after members of the campaign relentlessly pushed the local journalists to make room for Sanders as he made his way to various attractions at the fair on Sunday.

The press pool erupted in chaos as Sanders left the campaign event, which was hosted by the Des Moines Register.

“Do not put your hands on me. You keep pushing me,” the female photographer yelled at the staffer.

Another journalist asked if a different female reporter was okay after she was pushed by Sanders’ campaign workers many times.

Security for the event, as well as members of Sanders’ campaign, repeatedly grabbed and shoved members of the press. One staffer for the Des Moines Register pushed a gate into a reporter for the Washington Examiner after telling him that “not all press” would be allowed to follow Sanders around.

While I can understand that the press can be aggressive themselves, especially to the point of being dangerous, two wrongs don’t make a right, especially when it comes to shoving around female members of the press.

According to the Daily Wire, despite the fact that the physicality was great enough to warrant complaints within the press office, the Des Moines Register, the outlet covering the event, didn’t mention the dust-up between staffers and reporters. In fact, few mainstream press outlets appear to be doing so, at least at the time of this writing.

Washington Post Shows Why We Don’t Need More Gun Control Laws

This photo provided by the Los Angeles Police Department shows part of a large cache of weapons seized at a home in the affluent Holmby Hills area of Los Angeles Wednesday, May 8, 2019. Authorities seized more than a thousand guns from the home after getting an anonymous tip regarding illegal firearms sales in a posh area near the Playboy Mansion. Officials say Los Angeles police and the ATF served a search warrant around 4 a.m. Wednesday at the property on the border of the Bel Air and Holmby Hills neighborhoods. (Los Angeles Police Department via AP)

Yesterday, the Washington Post ran a stunt feature trying to shape the gun control debate.

As my colleague, Brad Slager, describes it:

It is a jarring visual, one that makes you pause. It is also doing another job; serving as agitprop. To go along with this tabulation it mentions how one third of these names occurred since the Sandy Hook school shooting, declaring a massive rise in these events. What it does not do is show how gun deaths have been on the decline for decades, just as the supposed violence-inducing weapons have been rising in popularity and in numbers.

Read it slowly and out loud. 1196 victims over 54 years. To me, the takeaway from the article is that we are supposed to get exercised over 22 deaths per year in so-called mass shootings–I should say “mass shootings of white people” to really encapsulize what the Washington Post is talking about because what they studiously avoid are shootings carried out to further some criminal enterprise or endeavor:

CREDIT: https://www.rand.org/research/gun-policy/analysis/essays/mass-shootings.html

To put this in perspective, somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 people are killed each year by lightning strikes which should give you an idea of the odds of you or a loved one being the victim of a mass shooting that would gain the interest of the Washington Post.

Cattle kill approximately 22 Americans per year nationwide, and the animals deliberately attack their victims in 75 percent of those cases, according to a 2009 study. About one-third of bovine killers have a history of aggressive behavior. Swine likely kill fewer people than cattle do, but there are no reliable data on this question. The CDC’s mortality statistics group together all mammal attacks apart from those perpetrated by rodents, dogs, and humans. The death count in the mammal-attack category averages about 73 per year, including cattle-related mortalities.

I’m not trying to be flippant about these deaths but let’s not lose sight of the fact that the sole reason the Washington Post is pushing this story is because is believes that by focusing on an extraordinarily infrequent event that it can create an emotional appeal that will, in turn, generate legislation to make gun ownership much more onerous. And make no mistake about it, it is the quest to eliminate your ability to own a firearm that is the objective of the Washington Post and its fellow travelers. Absolutely none of the solutions they are proposing would have done anything at all to prevent the shootings in El Paso or Dayton or nearly every other place.

If the Washington Post really cared about mass shootings, it would have weekend box scores from West Baltimore, Southside Chicago, East LA, and the like. The post realizes that if it does this, then mass shootings will become associated with criminal enterprises and their impact and their ability to shape public policy will be limited.

In a nation of 330 million there is a lot of tragedy every day. Very little of it is actually preventable.  Sorry. I’m not interested in finding “common sense” solutions to a non-problem. I’m not going to participate in negotiating away my rights in search of the good opinion of the left because of a manufactured national crisis. I’m not going to fall for the “do something” bullsh**. Unless and until you can show me how your proposals will only effect people who are definitely going to become mass shooters and not scoop of a hundredfold inoffensive people for every one, then we’re done.

The Washington Post Clowns Itself While Trying to Make Mass Shootings Seem Frequent

Westlake Legal Group WAPO-620x448 The Washington Post Clowns Itself While Trying to Make Mass Shootings Seem Frequent Washington Post Politics Narrative Media mass shootings Guns gun control Front Page Stories democrats Chicago Allow Media Exception

As radio show hostess and pro-gun advocate Dana Loesch once said, the legacy media loves mass shootings. If there’s blood on the ground, you can bet the mainstream media will send reporters to point their cameras straight it and give you round-the-clock coverage.

Terms and conditions may apply, such as the skin color of the shooter and party-controlled locations like Chicago or Baltimore.

As my colleague Brad Slager covered earlier, the media has been having a field day with recent mass shootings that happened one after another. This prompted the Washington Post to make an agitprop visual in its paper that displays the names of victims killed in mass shootings since 1966.

As Slager noted, the page is sobering to be sure. However, it really denotes just how rare these mass shootings are. As WaPo spread their image around for all to look at and sway over to their argument, those paying attention saw that important details were being left out.

“The WaPost unintentionally puts recent shootings in perspective. This is a very rare event and marginal cause of deaths—even deaths by murder,” tweeted Georgetown law professor and author Randy Barnett. “But if we keep politicizing these events to accomplish our policy objectives, we just might manage to make them more common.”

Robert Tracinski noted that if you put the victims of lightning strikes back to back, you’d get a similar result.

This is virulent innumeracy: trying to make a comparatively rare event look much bigger than it is by the way you print it out,” tweeted Tracinski. “Figure out how many of these pages it would take to print the names of everybody struck by lightning since 1966.”

Another point was made comparing the “rare” case of late-term abortions, of which 10,000-12,000 happen every year. Compare that to the 1,196 victims of mass shootings since the mid-’60s.

Outside of the fact that this is clearly WaPo attempting to narrative-craft some outrage to help grease the wheels of the Democrat anti-gun agenda, you’ll notice that a lot of ignoring is going on as well.

According to the Chicago Tribune, 1,636 people have been shot in Chicago just this year, yet you don’t see the Washington Post giving them a page in their paper. What’s more, you probably never will. The narrative it creates on its own doesn’t jibe with the carefully crafted narrative the media wants to put forward, bringing Loesch’s famous quote into stark reality.

“Many in legacy media love mass shootings. You guys love it,” Loesch said during her 2018 CPAC speech. “Now I’m not saying that you love the tragedy. But I am saying that you love the ratings. Crying white mothers are ratings gold to you and many in the legacy media in the back (of the room).”
“And notice I said ‘crying white mothers’ because there are thousands of grieving black mothers in Chicago every weekend, and you don’t see town halls for them, do you?” Loesch continued. “Where’s the CNN town hall for Chicago? Where’s the CNN town hall for sanctuary cities?”

And where’s the Washington Post page for Chicago’s victims?

When you sit down to really consider the fact that WaPo seems to greatly care about one kind of victim but not the other, it makes it pretty gross how, all things considered, the paper is actually utilizing these mass shooting victims as props by printing their names, and not actually honoring them.

Their names are just useful enough to create a line on a page that can fit into other lines on a page, which then makes it seem like these lines combined make claims that we need to give up freedoms to be valid. This is tragic considering that mass shootings are horrific enough as it is.

In truth, the Washington Post really showed us how rare these shootings are and that they’re disgusting enough to use your name in order to push their agenda whether you like it or not.

On Sunday, noted left-wing Harvard Constitutional law professor Laurence Tribe ventured off into the fever swamps on the issue of abortion, positing what he thought was a solid reason why white supremacists “opposed” it:

It’s both sad and yet unsurprising that someone with such a distinguished educational pedigree like Tribe could be so wildly off the mark. Several conservatives were quick to point this out to the professor:

The most notable conservative to school Tribe was his former student – Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), who posted a series of tweets setting the record straight:

For what it’s worth, Tribe tried to, ahem, clarify his Sunday tweet by posting another one on the same issue Monday morning:

Tribe can try to clarify all he wants to, but the insinuation in his original tweet was clear. Liberals including Tribe have spent the entirety of Trump’s presidency trying to paint all Trump supporters as racists and white supremacists, and his initial abortion tweet was one example of many.

What he didn’t realize he was doing, as Cruz and others have astutely pointed out, is accidentally demonstrating that actual white supremacists and the pro-abortion left have a lot in common.

Oops.

UPDATE: Cruz responds to a critic of his remarks about Sanger and abortion, and zings Va. Gov. Ralph Northam (D) in the process:

Ouch!

New Report: Epstein’s Cellmate Was Transferred Out Hours Before His Death

Westlake Legal Group epstein-620x282 New Report: Epstein’s Cellmate Was Transferred Out Hours Before His Death william barr Serena Gregg President Trump police Jeffrey Epstein Front Page Stories Featured Story E.O. Young democrats Culture crime Barbara Sampson Allow Media Exception

Citing “a person familiar with the matter” who wished to remain anonymous, the Washington Post reported that the cellmate of accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein was transferred out on Friday, hours before his death. Investigators are looking into why he was not replaced.

Additionally, the source said the guard had not checked on Epstein for several hours before he was found unresponsive on Saturday morning. Guards are expected to check on inmates in the “high-security Special Housing Unit, in which high-profile or dangerous detainees are kept separate from the general population” every 30 minutes. (Those who are on suicide watch are supposed to be checked every 15 minutes, but it’s been confirmed that he had been removed from the watch list.)

Serena Gregg, president of the American Federation of Government Employees Local 3148, blames the failure on understaffing.

She noted that “the Metropolitan Correctional Center is functioning with less than 70 percent of the needed correctional officers, forcing many to work mandatory overtime and 60- or 70-hour workweeks.”

Gregg said that, on the night of Epstein’s death, the two guards on duty “were working overtime — one forced to do so by management, the other for his fourth or fifth consecutive day.” She added that, “one of the individuals assigned to watch Epstein’s unit did not normally work as a correctional officer but, like others in roles such as counselors and teachers, was able to do so.” She said:

If it wasn’t Mr. Epstein, it would have been somebody else, because of the conditions at that institution. It wasn’t a matter of how it happened or it happening, but it was only a matter of time for it to happen. It was inevitable. Our staff is severely overworked.

It’s daunting — mentally, physically. I would feel confident in saying that some of that contributed to the unfortunate death of inmate Epstein.

On July 23rd, Epstein had been found unconscious in his cell with injuries to his neck and was immediately placed on suicide watch. A week later, he was moved to the special housing unit, “where there was a higher level of security, but not constant monitoring,” and taken off suicide watch.

According to the Washington Post:

Before the incident, Epstein had a cellmate: Nicholas Tartaglione, a former police officer in custody on murder and narcotics charges. But Young, the national union president, said Epstein was in a cell alone immediately before his death.

Young said he was not certain why Epstein was in the cell alone, as the Federal Bureau of Prisons has moved recently to make sure fewer inmates are housed on their own. He said there was some speculation after the July 23 incident that Epstein was trying to get away from Tartaglione, whom he feared, and he believed that, at least for a time, Epstein had another cellmate after coming off suicide watch.

Young asserted that in the jail’s general population, Epstein also probably would have been a target and that there was only so much officers could do to prevent him from harming himself.

Young told the reporter, “We can’t ever stop anyone who is persistent on killing themselves. The only thing the bureau can do is delay that.”

And here comes the Trump bashing. Young said, “All this was caused by the administration” which “had imposed a hiring freeze and budget cuts on the Federal Bureau of Prisons.”

Young pointed out that, during a Congressional hearing, Attorney General William P. Barr “conceded the bureau was short about 4,000 or 5,000 employees and said he had lifted the hiring freeze and was trying to ensure a steady pipeline of new officers to replace those who leave.”

Brace yourselves for the copious amounts of finger pointing to come.

One would assume, especially in the Special Housing Unit, that cameras would have captured what took place in or around Epstein’s cell in the early hours on Saturday morning. I would expect cameras to be focused directly on inmates’ cells and the surrounding areas.

Former U.S. attorney, Preet Bharara tweeted, “There should be – and almost certainly is – video of Epstein’s suicide at MCC. One hopes it is complete, conclusive, and secured.”

E.O. Young, the national president of the Council of Prison Locals C-33, disagrees. He said, “It was not clear how much, if any, of the incident or authorities’ check-ins was captured on camera.” Young also told the reporter that, “while cameras are prevalent in the facility, he did not believe they generally captured inmates’ cells.”

News of Epstein’s apparent suicide while in federal custody immediately triggered both an FBI and a Department of Justice Inspector General investigation. It also sparked outrage among his victims who were waiting for Epstein to face justice.

The city’s chief medical examiner, Barbara Sampson, announced that an autopsy had been performed on Sunday, but said they would not be releasing their immediate findings. “At the request of Epstein’s representatives,” private pathologist Michael Baden was allowed to attend the autopsy.

Still, I imagine we’ll be hearing quite a bit from “sources who are willing to speak on the condition of anonymity.”

In the tweet below, Tech tycoon and current presidential candidate John McAfee adds a bit of levity to the buzz around Epstein’s death.
