Comedian D.L. Hughley has a pretty low opinion of, well, you.

As reported by Fox News (with video provided by MRCTV), the star of TV One’s The D.L. Hughley Show made his thoughts clear Tuesday night on-air.

In case you’re unfamiliar with D.L., he executive-produced the 89-episode The Hughleys for ABC/UPN.

On the small and silver screen, he’s also appeared in Hawaii Five-O, Scary Movie 3, Soul Plane, Scrubs, and Inspector Gadget 2 to name a few.

And, as stated Tuesday, he could never be friends with a “staunch” supporter of Donald Trump.

“Hell no,” he insisted.

Trump’s enablers are, according to D.L., “self-centered” and “morally vacant.”

Does the entertainer think the same about all the rappers who praised New York’s most eccentric billionaire for years before his ram-horned Republican transformation?

Also, guess what — it’s the Republican side that’s anti-Semitic:

“[Trump’s] supporters are anti-Semitic. He’s calling [the Quad Squad] racist, he’s racist. … When people committed acts of violence in your name and you don’t denounce them, and you still support him, you are a vacant human being.”

But wait — there’s more.

And if you, the reader, can tear away from your meeting in the woods trying to summon a spiritual Earth-curse that’ll either annihilate humanity or be cast into a bunch of swine long enough to continue reading this…I’ll tell ya more about Americans sporting red caps.

Here’s D.L.’s message:

“You could worship the devil and be a better human being than if you worshiped Donald Trump. Look up the tenets of the Church of Satan… and then go to a Trump rally and you’ll feel safer around Beelzebub than this dude.”

Co-host Jasmine Sanders submitted, “There’s nothing likable about him.”

D.L. delivered the DL on you Moloch maniacs:

“Devil worshippers have a higher standard than he does. Devil worshippers — you couldn’t be a pedophile, you can’t speak bad about people, you can’t just take things from people.”

“I don’t even know if I could be friends with someone like that,” Jasmine explained at one point.

D.L. seconded:

“We can’t be friends. We can’t be friends.”

Why? Because D.L. has requirements for his friends:

“And one of them is to be human.”

Strong statements from a man in Hollywood.

Putting aside the notion of the Prince of Darkness for a moment, in simple literary terms, something tells me the Trump-hating members of Tinseltown qualify much more hardily for a biblical comparison: Call them Legion, for they are many.

Leftwing Journo Makes Bizarre Claim That Mueller Testified That the Kremlin Was Blackmailing Trump

A lot of strange stuff came out of the rather bizarre hearing yesterday that featured a befuddled Robert Mueller being asked questions about a document with which obviously didn’t have a passing acquaintance. Left with a dog’s breakfast of failure, that portion of the leftwing media which has any interest in its reputation averted its eyes and pressed on to different pressing topics. Like the temperature.

But those who were deeply invested in the fraudulent investigation instigated by the Clinton campaign, nursed by the Obama administration, and carried into execution by James Comey and Robert Mueller had little choice but to ignore the “first rule of holes” and dig in deeper else their entire professional existence since October 2016 would be revealed to be a shameful lie. One of those, unsurprisingly, was Jonathan Chait. His contribution is Mueller Testifies Russia Had Blackmail on Trump.

The most interesting and newsworthy portion of Robert Mueller’s six hours of testimony before the House yesterday came in the final two exchanges of the day, long after the narrative was set and the national media had grown bored. In those ten minutes, Mueller confirmed that Russia had blackmail leverage over Donald Trump during the 2016 campaign.

This is a pretty definite statement. Not “might.” Not “what if.” But “had.” Funny that we should only hear of that now considering we’ve had access to top secret information on the probe courtesy of non-stop leaks from the CIA, FBI, DOJ, disgruntled White House staffers, and, last but by no means least, the Special Counsel’s office for over two years and we have a report by the Special Counsel or whoever was playing Edgar Bergen to Mueller’s Charlie McCarthy. The only problem is that it’s a lie.

These are the exchanges that Chait puts on the rack and stretches until they support his masturbatory fantasy:

KRISHNAMOORTHI: As you noted in volume two of your report, Donald Trump repeated five times in one press conference, Mr. Mueller, in 2016, “I have nothing to do with Russia.” Of course Michael Cohen said Donald Trump was not being truthful, because at this time Trump was attempting to build Trump Tower Moscow. Your report does not address whether Donald Trump was compromised in any way because of any potential false statements that he made about Trump Tower Moscow, correct?

MUELLER: I think that’s right — I think that’s right.

Huh? Mueller is agreeing with Krishnamoothi’s question…he thinks.

Next up is Adam “My DNA is not partially from an insect” Schiff:

SCHIFF: The need to act in an ethical manner is not just a moral one, but when people act unethically it also exposes them to compromise, particularly in dealing with foreign powers, is that true?

MUELLER: True.

SCHIFF: Because when someone acts unethically in connection with a foreign partner, that foreign partner can expose their wrongdoing and extort them.

MUELLER: True.

SCHIFF: And that conduct — that unethical conduct can be of a financial nature if you have a financial motive or elicit business dealing, am I right?

MUELLER: Yes.

SCHIFF: It could also just involve deception. If you are lying about something that can be exposed, then you can be blackmailed.

MUELLER: Also true.

What educated people with an IQ well to the right side of the intelligence Bell Curve might see as Mueller agreeing with a series of statements by Schiff, Chait sees as a brilliant effort that extracted a hidden truth.

SCHIFF: Well, let’s look at Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for the Kremlin, someone that the Trump organization was in contact with to make that deal happen. Your report indicates that Michael Cohen had a long conversation on the phone with someone from Dmitry Peskov’s office. Presumably, the Russians could have tape-recorded that conversation, could they not?

MUELLER: Yes.

SCHIFF: And so we have candidate Trump who’s saying, “I have no dealings with the Russians,” but if the Russians had a tape recording, they could expose that, could they not?

MUELLER: Yes.

And Chait sums up this Caesar salad of bullsh** with:

The media narrative has treated Russian leverage over Trump as a paranoid scenario debunked by the Mueller report. But Mueller was not looking primarily to resolve whether Russia had leverage over Trump. And yet he managed to turn up proof anyway.

But Mueller did have the facts. The proof was sitting there in the report all along, and yesterday — in blunt, simple, and chilling terms — he actually confirmed what this all meant.

Contrary to what Chait was furiously keyboarding with his left hand, all you have here is Mueller answering in monosyllables to hypothetical questions tossed out by one of the most batsh** crazy members of either party. Personally, I don’t think Trump is susceptible to blackmail because I’ve yet to see evidence that it is possible for him to be embarrassed. That aside, what we do know is that a) there was no Trump real estate deal in Russia, we know with great certainty that any phone conversation between any US person and someone in the Russian foreign ministry would have been vacuumed out of the ether by the NSA and would have been revealed via a leak long before now.

No. Mueller didn’t say the Russians had compromised Trump. No. Mueller didn’t imply the Russians had compromised Trump. If something this extraordinary had happened, more credible people would be reporting it. It simply didn’t happen and the evidence Chait presents demonstrates conclusively that Chait is lying. Why is he lying? Well, he’s built a career on it, why give up on a proven strategy at this stage of the game?

On Wednesday night’s episode of “Anderson Cooper 360,” a group of panelists were discussing the strategy of House Democrats going forward in the wake of the disastrous Mueller hearings.

CNN’s legal analyst, Jeffrey Toobin, made an extraordinary comment: (video below)

You know what might be a good idea for the Democrats in the House of Representatives is to find out something. You know, I mean, they got control of the House of Representatives and they were gonna do investigations. Name one thing that any of these investigations have uncovered. Now we’re almost at the summer recess. What are they doing?

They have been stymied by the president. They have run into unprecedented, you know, interference from the president but I mean, let’s not kid ourselves. This has been a wall to wall failure in all these committees.

More remarkable still, CNN’s Kirsten Powers agreed with him. Some began making excuses for their lack of progress, such as ‘these court cases can take some time,’ but generally, none of the panelists actually disagreed with Toobin.

Toobin is absolutely correct. For the past seven months, House Democrats have devoted themselves to the destruction of President Trump. They haven’t landed any fatal blows, or really many not so fatal blows. They have focused on impeachment to the exclusion of all other duties.

Now, the August recess is upon them and they have accomplished nothing.

Following the hearings, several Democrats tried to put a positive spin on their future strategy regarding the President. CNN reported:

Publicly, Democrats called the Mueller hearings an important step on Wednesday, where the special counsel explained that his investigation did not exonerate the President, detailed how his actions toward Russia and WikiLeaks were problematic, and outlined what they see is a clear case of obstruction of justice, even if Mueller would not say so explicitly.

“For people who are not (familiar with the report), this should have blown their minds,” said Rep. Ted Lieu, a California Democrat who backs an impeachment inquiry.

Squad ally Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) said of the hearings, “I think it was groundbreaking.” She added that “she thought Mueller had moved the needle for the public and her own caucus.”

This should have blown our minds? It was groundbreaking? Not so much.

Surely they know that yesterday’s debacle marked the end of the road for their impeachment dreams.

At least Toobin and Powers were willing to admit it.

Just days after sinking to new lows with a despicable slut-shaming tweet about former Sen. Al Franken’s #MeToo accuser Leeann Tweeden, unhinged Trump Derangement Syndrome sufferer Bette Midler is at it again.

Midler’s latest target is black Trump supporters. Apparently in her warped mind, the only way a black person can show support for Trump is if they are paid to do it:

Other Hollywood celebrities weighed in and absolutely blasted her for it:

Macdonald, by the way, also slammed Midler for her tweet about Tweeden:

Middler’s insulting and, frankly, unAmerican insinuation that black voters should by default be toeing the liberal line is reminiscent of Democratic Squad member Rep. Ayanna Pressley’s Netroots Nation call to arms from earlier this month where she said this to the liberal audience:

Pressley’s rant inspired North Carolina Trump supporter Shemeka Michelle to post her own video asking if her black voice met with Pressley’s approval.

Michelle issued a video response to Midler’s tweet Thursday afternoon and WENT. OFF:

Trey Gowdy Sums Up the Absurdity of the Mueller Hearing With Brutal Zings

Westlake Legal Group AP_18170605058019-620x334 Trey Gowdy Sums Up the Absurdity of the Mueller Hearing With Brutal Zings Trey Gowdy Robert Mueller republicans Politics Mueller Investigation hearings Front Page Stories donald trump democrats Allow Media Exception

To call the Mueller hearings a waste of time would be an understatement, though it did reveal that the Democrats have no faith in 2020 by their desperation to impeach President Donald Trump.

(Read: “The Democrats Don’t Know It, But They Handed Trump A Great Gift With The Mueller Debacle“)

No one put the results of the Mueller Hearings in better context than former South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy who appeared on Fox News to talk about what happened. As brutal as Gowdy’s take was, it was tremendously fair.

Bret Baier was in the midst of discussing that Director Robert Mueller had clearly not written his own report, signaling that bias did indeed play a tremendous part and putting impeachment further out of the Democrat’s grasp.

“Democrats today are not closer to impeachment than yesterday,” said Baier.

“They’re not closer to anything other than wishing this never happened. Bad facts make for bad witnesses. Bad witnesses make for bad hearings. This one was an abject, miserable failure,” responded Gowdy.

He was just getting started.

“The person who learned the most about he Mueller report today was Bob Mueller,” he continued. “I say that sadly. He was not engaged. He did not interview the witnesses. He clearly didn’t write the report which means those under him did, which means the issue of bias is all the more important.”

“It was a terrible day if you were a Democrat,” said Gowdy. “I do want to give them credit for this; they managed to have a hearing without calling a convicted felon as a witness, so I do want to give them credit for that.”

“The Micahel Cohen hearing may have been more interesting TV-wise,” said Baier.

“QVC was more interesting than what I watched,” responded Gowdy.

Gowdy isn’t wrong. In the Democrat’s efforts to try to beat a dead horse, they ended up further exposing the fact that there are serious discrepancies in the way that Democrats were investigated vs how Republicans were. There are clearly a lot of blanks that still haven’t been filled in terms of what went down behind the scenes within the investigation.

But other than this, there were no bombshells, no moments where Trump was inspired to start biting his nails. Even CNN was admitting this was a total victory for Trump and put impeachment well out of the reach of Democrats.

It Sure Looks Like Robert Mueller Didn’t Even Write That “Snitty” Letter to AG Bill Barr

As several of us have written over the past twenty four hours, one of the key takeaways from Robert Mueller’s disastrous testimony yesterday was that he not a man in charge of his own investigation. Time and time again, we saw evidence of that spill out in the hearings. Mueller often didn’t know basic facts and he couldn’t recall things that were in his own report. He also patently refused to answer any questions, even questions clearly in bounds, that wouldn’t allow him to give a boilerplate deflection referencing the report, again calling into question his knowledge.

One such instance involved a much discussed letter from Robert Mueller to Attorney General Bill Barr. Billed as a “bombshell” by left-wing media, it contained a claim that Barr’s initial summary of the top line findings failed to “fully capture the context, nature, and substance” of the Mueller report.

Special counsel Robert S. Mueller III wrote a letter in late March complaining to Attorney General William P. Barr that a four-page memo to Congress describing the principal conclusions of the investigation into President Trump “did not fully capture the context, nature, and substance” of Mueller’s work, according to a copy of the letter reviewed Tuesday by The Washington Post.

This was of course nonsense. Barr’s release of the top line findings was, by its very definition, not meant to reveal all the context and substance of the report. Something stunk about that letter, as well as the way it got to The Washington Post. The tone was also unlike Mueller according to Bill Barr, who called it “snitty,” speculating that someone else wrote it.

Republicans brought all this up in yesterday’s hearings and while Mueller naturally obfuscated, he said enough to basically confirm the speculation.

Here was the first exchange.

Madeleine Dean:          00:07                Thank you. I wanted to ask you about public confusion connected with Attorney General Barr’s release of your report. I will be quoting your March 27th letter. Sir, in that letter, and at several other times, did you convey to the Attorney General that the “Introductions and executive summaries of our two volume report accurately summarize this office’s work and conclusions.”?

Robert Mueller:            00:35                I’d have to say that the letter itself speaks for itself.

Madeleine Dean:          00:39                And those were your words in that letter. Continuing with your letter, you wrote to the Attorney General that “The summary letter that the Department sent to Congress and released to the public late in the afternoon of March 24th did not fully capture the context, nature, and substance of this Office’s work and conclusions.” Is that correct?

Robert Mueller:            01:00                Again, I rely on the letter itself for its terms.

Madeleine Dean:          01:04                Thank you. What was it about the reports, context, nature, substance, that the Attorney General’s letter did not capture?

Robert Mueller:            01:12                I think we captured that in a March 27th responsive letter.

Madeleine Dean:          01:17                And this is from the 27th letter. What were some of the specifics that you thought-

Robert Mueller:            01:22                I direct you to the letter itself.

Madeleine Dean:          01:24                Okay. You finished that letter by saying, “There is now public confusion about critical aspects as a result of our investigation.” Could you tell us specifically some of the public confusion you identified?

Robert Mueller:            01:39                Not generally. Again, I go back to the letter. The letter speaks for itself

Madeleine Dean:          01:41                And could Attorney General Barr have avoided public confusion if he had released your summaries and executive introduction and summaries?

Robert Mueller:            01:49                I don’t feel comfortable speculating on that.

Mueller continually points to the letter itself, even though the letter doesn’t provide the answers to the questions being asked. Keep in mind, this letter is not covered under any privilege and was actually leaked by Mueller’s own office. Yet, he refuses to answer even the most basic questions about why he wrote it and what its purpose was.

Then things started to break down for Mueller. He’d later be asked about the letter again, including its leaking.

Martha Roby:                03:59                On March 27, 2019, you wrote a letter to the attorney general essentially complaining about the media coverage of your report. You wrote, and I quote, “The summary letter the department sent to Congress and released to the public late in the afternoon of March 24 didn’t not fully capture the context, nature, and substance of this office’s work and conclusions. We communicated that concern to the department on the morning of March 25th. There is now public confusion about critical aspects of the result of our investigation.” Who wrote that March 27th letter?

Robert Mueller:            04:29                Well, I can’t get into who wrote it. The internal deliberation-

Martha Roby:                04:36                But you signed it.

Robert Mueller:            04:37                What I will say is, the letter stands for itself.

Martha Roby:                04:39                Okay. Why did you write a formal letter since you had already called the attorney general to express those concerns?

Robert Mueller:            04:45                I can’t get into that. Internal deliberations.

Translation: He didn’t write the letter.

Someone who was confident in A) what the letter said and B) that he wrote it, would not refuse to answer a question as basic as “who wrote the letter.” He also would be able to deal with the letter’s accusations instead of constantly saying the letter stands for itself, which it does not. How does the letter answer the question of why he didn’t just call Bill Barr? It simply doesn’t.

Rep. Roby would then press Mueller on the letter’s leaking and that only led to more confusion.

Martha Roby:                04:47                Did you authorize the letter’s release to the media, or was it leaked?

Robert Mueller:            04:52                I have no knowledge on either.

Martha Roby:                04:55                Well you went nearly two years without a leak. Why was this letter leaked?

Robert Mueller:            05:00                Well, I can’t get into it.

Martha Roby:                05:02                Was this letter written and leaked for the express purpose of attempting to change the narrative about the conclusions of your report? And was anything in Attorney General Barr’s letter, referred to as principal conclusions, inaccurate?

Speaker 3:                    05:15                The time of the gentle lady is expired. The gentle lady [crosstalk 00:05:17]

Martha Roby:                05:16                Can he answer the question, please?

Robert Mueller:            05:21                And the question is?

Speaker 3:                    05:21                He may answer the question.

Martha Roby:                05:21                Was anything in Attorney General Barr’s letter, referred to as the principal conclusions letter dated March 24th, inaccurate?

Robert Mueller:            05:28                Well, I am not going to get into that.

Speaker 3:                    05:31                Time of the gentle lady is expired.

Huh?

So he can’t tell us who wrote the letter. He can’t tell us who leaked the letter and claims to not know. He can’t even say that there was nothing inaccurate in his letter. This doesn’t sound like a man who was in control of his own investigation. It sounds like his “deputies” wrote this letter and put it in front of him to sign. I’m not sure if Mueller was truly so out of it that he couldn’t even process what was going on, but its pretty jarring to see him unable to answer baseline questions about a letter he claims is his words.

Mueller would later say in testimony that he didn’t even believe his office leaked the letter. That’s simply an insane contention given the letter originated from his office and that there’s no logical reason Bill Barr would have leaked it given it was harmful to his account.

The only thing that makes sense here is what’s becoming more and more obvious. Robert Mueller was a figurehead. A nominal “Republican” providing cover for a team of partisans that were actually running the show. Andrew Weissmann clearly had more power and more say in the Mueller report than Robert Mueller himself did. That’s apparent by not only the wording at times, but by the presence of Part II (which breaks DOJ guidelines on slandering unindicted people) and Mueller’s own inability to discuss his own report.

The bottom line is this. Mueller never should have been appointed as special counsel, especially if as Sen. Graham claims, that it was common knowledge that Mueller was “mentally feeble.”

What we ended up with was a group of Hillary donors, including people who attended her “victory” party, running wild. They ignored criminality by others in a rabid pursuit of only people connected to Donald Trump. Robert Mueller showed little control over his investigation and allowed DOJ policy to be blatantly violated.

This was a travesty of justice and there needs to be a reckoning.

The Mueller Report is a dead horse, but Democrats are beating the corpse into atoms.

The entire display on Wednesday came off as pathetic and Director Robert Mueller received such a shellacking from Republicans that I almost started to feel sorry for him, or would have if he didn’t amount to a dirty cop using his position to punish political opponents.

It was pretty clear that Democrats came away looking pretty bad. Even CNN was throwing in the towel and declaring the entire spectacle a win for President Donald Trump who can now laugh at any mention of the word “impeachment.”

Impeachment was something that Democrats wanted so badly they would desperately try to fan any hot embers within the dead fire of the Mueller investigation to see if they could get a flame from it. Maybe they didn’t mean to, but this desperation tells us something very interesting.

Democrats have zero faith in their candidates in the upcoming 2020 elections.

I realize that Democrats had put a lot of time, effort, and set-up into bringing down Trump and that just letting this go once Mueller found no obstruction or collusion would be a hard thing to do. The fact that they’re reducing themselves to taking a second crack at an investigation’s findings that they already know produced nothing says that despite the vast field of choices in the Democrat candidate pool, not one of them is worth investing time in.

Not long ago, former VP Joe Biden rolled out his campaign platform but Democrats didn’t seem to care. As my colleague Kira Davis wrote earlier this month, Biden released his platform and no one seemed to notice. Democrats and the media were all fixated on Trump and his Twitter account.

This is Donald Trump’s main threat within the 2020 Democratic herd and neither Trump, nor Biden’s fellow Democrats, thought it necessary to give Biden the time of day. In truth, Biden is the last, best hope to get Trump out of the White House but Democrats seem to have no faith in him. The Democratic powers that be were pretty outraged about him from the beginning anyway, sneering in his direction because, after electing a black man and nominating a woman, the Democrats were reverting back to a white man as their leader.

To Democrats, it would seem that Trump’s 2020 victory is inevitable. To be clear, they look so darkly on their own party’s chances in 2020 that they turned to something that had already failed them. That’s how bad it is for the left at this moment.

Why Did House Democrats Disregard Warnings Of Mueller’s ‘Condition’?

Especially to those who have known and worked with former special counsel Robert Mueller over his long career in law enforcement, his performance before the House Judiciary and Intelligence committees on Wednesday came as a shock.

Matt Drudge described him as “dazed and confused.”

“At times it was halting and slow and painful,” said Fox News’ Brett Baier.

Glenn Kirschner, a former federal prosecutor who worked under Mueller in the U.S. attorney’s office tweeted, “Bob Mueller is struggling. It strikes me as a health issue. We need only look at footage of his earlier congressional appearances to see the dramatic difference in his demeanor and communicative abilities.”

The former Special Counsel, who will turn 75 in two weeks, appeared in both looks and demeanor to be at least ten years older. He asked for most questions to be repeated.  At a certain point, it became difficult to watch and I almost began to feel sorry for this man whom I’ve despised for two years.

Why would Democrats subject a man in Robert Mueller’s obviously frail condition to over six torturous hours of testimony? How did House Democrats allow yesterday’s debacle on Capitol Hill to ever happen?

According to Politico, people close to Mueller were whispering that he may not be “up to” testifying before Congress. Politico reported:

House Democrats caught wind of Robert Mueller’s reluctance earlier this year: the special counsel may not be “up to” testifying after he concluded his Russia probe.

The chatter was second-hand and cryptic. Staffers negotiating to get Mueller to appear on Capitol Hill weren’t sure where the messages were originally coming from. Were people close to Mueller sending a signal? Or was it just Justice Department officials who didn’t want the blockbuster hearing to go forward? Were there fears that Mueller’s reputation would be savaged in the hyper-partisan political circus of 2019? Were there stamina concerns?

“Take a break and listen on the radio, or close your eyes for a couple of minutes. He sounds much older — his starched, tall, distinguished physical appearance helps a great deal,” a former senior FBI official told Politico.

“He is clearly struggling a little, especially with long, convoluted questions. Having said that, even Mueller at his peak would be playing it very conservatively and would be giving short, curt answers,” added a second former FBI official.

I noticed that something seemed amiss with Mueller during his nine-minute “sneak attack” on May 29th. I wrote at the time:

If you watch Mueller’s demeanor, especially when he first steps up to the podium, he appears extremely ill at ease. It’s hard to imagine that such a powerful man would be quite so nervous, but he appeared petrified. And all he had to do was read something. He gave the impression that if he had to answer a serious question, he would explode.

He also made it clear that he was done. He would not take questions now or at anytime later, telling those gathered that the report speaks for itself.

Conservative commentator Mark Levin went even further. He said that Mueller appeared feeble. “This is not a man who would do well under seven, eight, nine hours of questioning, with the Republicans honing in on so many issues.”

Boy, was he right. And all Mueller had to do that day was read a statement.

Hot Air’s Allapundit offered his theories for why, knowing about Mueller’s condition, Nadler and Schiff were so determined to have him testify.

Progressives demanded it, and thus they were duty bound to haul him in whether he was “up to” it or not to prove their loyalty to The Cause. They weren’t about to say, “We can’t have him testify because he’s lost a step.” That would have undermined the credibility of the investigation, not to mention impugned Mueller. Better to bring him in and cross their fingers that his answers would sound cogent.

Another theory, if you’re into skullduggery, is that they wanted to cool the left’s impeachment ardor and were counting on a bad performance today by Mueller to do that. Certainly, the House is less likely to impeach now after listening to this than they were a month ago, no?

I agree with the former. I would add that this was their last opportunity to make their case for impeachment.

But given Mueller’s health, subjecting him to six hours of public testimony was cruel and, as it turned out,  a miscalculation of epic proportions.

Their dreams of impeaching President Trump are dead.

Watch: Publix Video Shows Confrontation Escalated Quickly – But Is At Odds With How Erica Thomas Described It

Ga. State Rep. Erica Thomas (D) in a screen grab from a Publix video taken 7/19/19. Via 11 Alive

A video of the confrontation between Georgia resident and Cuban-American Democrat Eric Sparkes and Georgia State Rep. Erica Thomas (D) inside a Publix grocery store was released Wednesday, providing more details in a case that has stoked racial divisions over allegations by Thomas that Sparkes told her to “go back to where she came from.”

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports:

A Publix surveillance video of the incident released Wednesday showed a confrontation that lasted roughly 45 seconds. It did not include audio, so it provided no conclusive evidence of what was said, but it showed Sparkes walk up to Thomas as she was checking out in the express lane and apparently point to the sign.

He quickly retreated as Thomas responded and took a step in his direction. She then followed him a few more steps as he walked away, pointing a finger at him.

The officer who reviewed the tape wrote that Sparkes “did not appear to be irate” or to have approached her with “clenched fists,” as Thomas asserted to the officer. He also wrote that Thomas’ 9-year-old daughter was seen “smiling shortly after.”

Watch video of the incident below:

While indeed there is no audio on the videotape, at least one witness told police that it was Thomas who told Sparkes to “go back to where you came from” multiple times. That same witness said they did not hear Sparkes say that to Thomas.

Another Publix employee said he heard Sparkes call Thomas the “b” word but did not hear him say “go back to where you came from.”

I rewatched the Facebook Live Thomas did on Friday an hour before she filed a police report. She said *multiple times* on the video that Sparkes told her to “go back to where you came from.” On Saturday, she backtracked:

In her Facebook video, she also said her daughter was crying during the incident and asking why Sparkes was saying those things. But in the Publix video released Wednesday, not once did you see Thomas, who is 9 months pregnant and was wearing a Planned Parenthood t-shirt, turn to speak to her daughter about what was happening, even after Sparkes had left the store and she went back to finish checking out.

Thomas did, however, pull her daughter into her Facebook live video about halfway through to say she felt “sad” about what happened and that she had wanted to do something about it but couldn’t because she knew she’d “get in trouble.”

In her Facebook video, Thomas indicated she was in fear for her life and didn’t know what to do. She said on Twitter that her husband wasn’t around to defend her because he was in the military and was deployed.

But in the Publix video, it’s very clear that she was not in fear for her life and took control of the situation very quickly after Eric Sparkes approached her (not with his hands “clenched” as she originally asserted) and pointed to the sign about 10 items in the express lane. In fact, she practically chased him out of the store.

In her Facebook video, she complained towards the end about the fact that no one stepped in to help her in spite of the fact that several people including two Publix employees were standing nearby. After watching the Publix video, it’s clear that she didn’t need anyone to intervene, that she aggressively went after Sparkes and kept pointing at the door for him to leave. At one point during the video you can see a store manager ushering Sparkes out. If I was a customer standing nearby, I would not have intervened, either. It looked like she was about to lunge for him.

As I wrote yesterday, Sparkes should never have walked over to her and confronted her about the express lane issue. Things like that you just need to let go. But he did. But just because he wanted to play express lane monitor was no excuse for her to embellish the situation the way she did and give a portrayal of how things happened that is at odds with what the actual video shows.

Also, during the Facebook live video, Thomas compared her situation to the “send [Rep. Ilhan Omar] back” chants that started during a Trump rally in North Carolina last week. Ironically, the man she says was mimicking those chants actually condemned the chants and Trump’s controversial tweets about the Squad on Facebook last week:

After watching the video and reading the police reports, it’s clear why the Cobb County PD decided not to file any charges. It’s also even more understandable now why Eric Sparkes is considering filing a defamation lawsuit against Thomas.

Thomas has a right to shop in peace. She also has a right to defend herself if confronted. She does not, however, have the right to defame another person by saying things that are at odds with how the situation actually played out.
