Trump, Fox News Decry Amazon’s Looming $10 Billion Defense Department Cronyism

President Donald Trump and his Twitter account – are indispensable weapons in the war against the Left-Deep State-Swamp cabal.

The vast majority of Republicans and the Right’s alleged leaders are…quite frankly useless in this (and almost every other regard).  They have stood by and silent while the Left took over everything – Washington, D.C., the schools, colleges, media, Hollywood and now Big Tech.

We on the Right are now entirely surrounded.  Most of our alleged friends – aren’t.

We the Normal – have had enough.  And have decided to FINALLY fight back.

A decade ago, we tried to do things nicely – with the Tea Party Movement.  Which was met with open hostility and slander by nigh everyone – including a whole lot of our alleged friends.  Remember but one of the very pleasant, thoroughly cordial responses – “Tea Baggers?”

But we didn’t get mad – we started to try to get even.  We tried to be nice – and were rudely, summarily dismissed.  So “Here,” we said – “have some Trump.”

Trump is almost always the only voice in politics opposing the ongoing, rolling Leftist narrative in this country.

Which sadly – due to ongoing, rolling Republican-Right inaction – has become the Leftist status quo in this country.

Trump used his Twitter account – and his innate good sense and pro-America, pro-sanity boorishness – to win the White House.

The Presidency is, of course, and incredibly dynamic and demanding job.  Every second of the work day – which never ends – there are probably two dozen other things of relatively equal import to consider besides the one you’re considering.

So getting the President’s attention – is a titanic achievement.  If Trump’s attention is drawn by something that falls into his anti-Left, anti-Swamp-Deep State purview – real change to the awful status quo becomes possible.

In DC, cronyism is a coin of the realm.  It’s a large part of what makes The Swamp and The Deep State – The Swamp and The Deep State.  The Swamp is the terrible status quo – The Deep State ensures it continues in perpetuity.

Cronyism is: Big Business bribes Big Government.  And Big Government rewards Big Business – with huge government money contracts.

Nigh always at the exorbitant over-expense of We the Taxpayers.  Far too often at the expense of what’s actually best for the business of government – no matter how dangerous for people it also ultimately becomes.

To wit: The Department of Defense (DoD)’s contract “bid” process to hire outside cloud computing backup.

When started – the process made strategic and economic sense.  The DoD was looking for multiple providers – in an open bidding process.

Multiple providers – because you have at least two backups of your smartphone.  Having several for the entirety of the DoD – is thoroughly rudimentary.

But then The Swamp took over.

The Barack Obama DoD hired an Amazon employee – to run the DoD cloud backup bid process.  So very crony.

Suddenly, the process went from looking for multiple providers – to looking for just one.  And the contractor description was rewritten – so that only Amazon met the specs.  So very crony.

We anti-Swampers continued to make just enough noise – to repeatedly delay the crooked process, not end it.

We’d point out the Swamp corruption – and the Deep State would again auto-incorrect back to cronyism.

All the while, bigger and bigger megaphones started decrying the mess.

And a contract that was supposed to awarded last summer – is still un-awarded this summer.

Last week – some of the very few at-all-worthwhile DC Rs weighed in.

Republicans Are Right: Defense Department Must Delay Amazon’s Massive Cronyism

But of course if worthwhile Republicans weigh in – the far-more-numerous Swamp-Deep State Republicans immediately respond.

Republican Lawmakers Ask Trump Not to Delay Pentagon Cloud-Computing Contract

Then came Fox News.  Specifically the show “The Next Revolution” – hosted by British-import populist Steve Hilton.

Hilton delivered a five-minute, eighteen-second on-air soliloquy about the abject heinousness the DoD cloud contract has become.

Then came the biggest anti-Swamp-Deep State megaphone of all – President Trump.

President Trump retweeted the Fox News segment.  And – quite thankfully:

Trump ‘Looking Into’ Pentagon’s JEDI Contract

Trump to Request Review of Pentagon Cloud-Computing Contract

Of course, the Swamp-Deep State defenders of the status quo – won’t stand idly by:

“Steve Kelman, a former federal procurement official now at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, said it would be improper for any president to influence the contracting process.

“‘It’s not appropriate and it’s definitely not typical for a president to intervene on a contract,’ he said. ‘That should be left to the Civil Service.’”

Oh look – a college professor…who was a government procurement bureaucrat.  He’s a Swamp-Deep State twofer – defending the Swamp-Deep State.  Shocker.

Amazon – seeing its massive cronyism maybe slipping away – responded in full-on Swamp-Deep State fashion.

Amazon Hires Trump-Allied Lobbyist Jeff Miller as President Threatens to Intervene in Battle over Pentagon Contract

Oh look – more lobbyists.  A now-longstanding Amazon tradition.

Amazon Increases Lobbying As It Eyes $10 Billion Technology Deal

Amazon Steps Up Lobbying Spending by 400%

Amazon Ups Their K Street Spending

This DoD deal – has become as deeply Deep State-Swampy as things in DC can get.

And that is REALLY saying something.

Here’s to Trump’s attention to it.

And – really important to actually Draining the Swamp – here’s to Trump ENDING it.

Chris Wallace: This hearing is a disaster for Democrats and for Robert Mueller’s reputation

Westlake Legal Group w-2 Chris Wallace: This hearing is a disaster for Democrats and for Robert Mueller’s reputation Trump The Blog russiagate Russia obstruction mueller hearing disaster democrats Chris Wallace

Easy prediction: Many Democrats will be echoing this point this afternoon — anonymously — to reporters at the NYT and WaPo for tonight’s big wrap-ups about Mueller’s underwhelming performance. I suppose Dems got the bare necessities from him, an acknowledgment on camera that he hadn’t cleared Trump of obstruction and that a prosecutor could indict POTUS once he leaves office. But at the most basic level, what they wanted from this spectacle was for viewers to weigh Mueller’s fitness and command of the facts against the president’s and conclude that obviously it’s the former who’s to be trusted. In a best-case scenario for them, Mueller might succumb to the temptation presented by the forum to say something truly damning about Trump, maybe even a nudge to the House that they’d be well within their rights to impeach him. But at a minimum, they wanted Mueller to rout Trump in a contest of credibility.

I’m, uh…

I’m not sure it worked out for them. Not when even Democrats are saying stuff like this:

“The years have clearly taken a toll on the Bob Mueller we used to see,” said Pete Williams of NBC, “and I think that’s affected his ability to be as facile with answering the questions, as perhaps both sides wanted him to be.” Rich Lowry thought Republicans should ask Mueller bluntly if he was really running the Russiagate investigation. Others noted that it made sense now why Mueller wanted aide Aaron Zebley close by. Chris Wallace, not one of Fox’s Trump cheerleaders, was bluntest of all:

I wonder if perceptions formed today about Mueller’s familiarity with the details of his own report (he didn’t know what Fusion GPS was?) will begin to color perceptions of the report itself. This new piece from the not-very-Trump-friendly Slate caught my eye, noting that Republicans at the hearing had a point in pressing Mueller as to why there was an investigation in the first place if it’s the DOJ’s position that a sitting president can’t be indicted. If impeachment is the only remedy, why wasn’t the investigation conducted by Congress? If the answer is that the DOJ might indict a sitting president once he’s left office, why not wait and let the Department decide whether to launch that probe once the president’s a private citizen again?

A mystery yet to be solved: Weren’t Dems warned in advance that Mueller wouldn’t make a good witness? He didn’t want to testify; surely someone in his network of staff or friends must have made it known to Jerry Nadler and Adam Schiff that this hearing wouldn’t go well for them if they insisted upon holding it.

Maybe Nadler and Schiff concluded that they had no choice but to call Mueller anyway, knowing that progressives would be out for blood if House Democrats declined to force the special counsel to sit for questioning. If it’s a choice between this sad spectacle and/or Nadler and Schiff getting primaried, they’ll take the sad spectacle every time.

Exit quotation from ABC anchor Terry Moran: “Impeachment’s over.” Which, I suppose, makes the hearing … good news for Dems? No one is less keen on impeachment than Nancy Pelosi, and today’s display should quiet all remaining talk about it, at least on the Russiagate front. Maybe that’s why Nadler and Schiff ultimately went through with it, in fact — either Mueller would be surprisingly strong, damaging Trump politically, or Mueller would be surprisingly weak, killing any lingering progressive momentum to drop the I-bomb.

Robert Mueller Makes Ridiculous Claim About Fusion GPS and the Steele Dossier During Hearing

There’s going to be a lot coming out about Mueller’s testimony today and none of it is particularly for the special counsel or Democrats.

Mueller was thoroughly embarrassed and exposed at multiple points, some of which will be covered later by other writers, but one exchange stuck out like a sore thumb to me.

Former special counsel Robert Mueller said Wednesday that he was “not familiar” with Fusion GPS, the opposition research firm that commissioned the Steele dossier.

Mueller revealed his surprising lack of familiarity with the firm during an exchange with Ohio Rep. Steve Chabot, a Republican member of the House Judiciary Committee.

“When you talk about the firm that produced the Steele reporting, the name of the firm that produced that was Fusion GPS, is that correct?” Chabot asked.

“I’m not familiar with that,” said Mueller, while scouring through his 448-page report of the Russia probe.

I’m not even sure what to say to that exchange, so here’s a gif before I go ahead and come up with something to say about that exchange.

Does Robert Mueller not realize that Fusion GPS played a central role in the Trump Tower meeting that formed a large basis of his investigative work? Shouldn’t he also know that Fusion GPS was behind the Steele Dossier, which formed a basis for the entire investigation and was cited in his report?

On that note, things get worse. Mueller then inexplicably claims he didn’t investigate the Steele dossier because it was “not in my purview.”

Again, here’s a gif to express my feelings on this while I gather my thoughts.

Westlake Legal Group giphy Robert Mueller Makes Ridiculous Claim About Fusion GPS and the Steele Dossier During Hearing WTF? testimony Steele dossier Robert Mueller republicans Politics Insanity hearing Glenn Simpson Fusion GPS Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story donald trump democrats conspiracy collusion Befuddled

The Steele dossier, which was the foundation of all the claims of conspiracy that eventually led to Robert Mueller’s appointment, was not in Mueller’s purview? It was also cited in his report, which means there’s no excuse whatsoever to not have looked into its credibility.

When cornered about that fact, Mueller gives this nonsensical excuse.

The Barr/Durham investigation is new. It started after Mueller’s investigation was completed. Is the special counsel seriously making the claim he didn’t look into Fusion GPS or the Steele dossier because he knew, via some future telling power, that it would later be subject of a DOJ investigation by an AG who wasn’t even appointed yet?

Let’s also note that Mueller spent much of his time going after Paul Manafort for crimes that occurred years earlier, had nothing to do with Russia, and had no connection to the 2016 election. Yet, he found those “within his purview” while a document and agency (Fusion GPS) that formed the basis of the conspiracy claims were found to not be not in his purview. Does that make sense to anyone? It shouldn’t.

This is a total cluster. Mueller was clearly, as I speculated last night, a figurehead. He doesn’t even know what’s in his own report, as streiff pointed out earlier in a piece. This guy is absolutely clueless and that led to rabid partisans like Andrew Weissmann running wild, making baseless accusations and insinuations against DOJ policy. Much of the report doesn’t even appear to have been approved by Mueller outside of rubber stamping.

Even though a few Republicans are still desperately trying to hold onto the idea that Mueller was honorable, I see no evidence of that. I see an old man who did a terrible job, not even investigating key tenants of the issue, while allowing what amounted to a partisan witch hunt to occur. I say that not to echo Donald Trump, but to echo the reality that Mueller inexplicably only focused on Trump associates when figures like Glenn Simpson and Michael Steele were major factors in the entire ordeal.

Today, Mueller’s investigation was exposed for exactly what it is and that’s a good thing.

One of the running gags in the television series “Hogan’s Heroes” was that of John Banner’s character, Sergeant Schultz. Schultz was the senior German noncommissioned officer at Luft Stalag 13, a prisoner-of-war camp housing captured Allied airmen. Schultz is a deeply compromised and unintelligent character who often sees illegal goings on and responds with his signature:

Apparently, Robert Mueller is doing a damned good impression of Sergeant Schultz in his opening statement and his testimony.

The picture being painted is damning. It is very obvious that Mueller was simply not mentally up to the challenge of managing this investigation. He simply loaned his name to an investigation led by Andrew Weissmann and his chief of staff, Aaron Zebley. I appears as though not only were the mechanics of the investigation left to subordinates, the correspondence from his office, over his signature, was also left to them. If Mueller was not derelict, then he’s a notorious liar because otherwise he’d know what Fusion GPS is. If is a tired, feeble old man who would an object of pity, not scorn, had he not done the damage he has to America’s political life.

All in all, it is difficult to see how this bit of theater enhances our knowledge of anything other than confirming that it was simply an exercise to collect scalps from the Trump campaign and use that evidence as a basis for impeachment.

Publix Witness: Ga. State Rep. Erica Thomas Repeatedly Told Eric Sparkes to “Go Back to Where You Came From”

Erica Thomas Repeatedly Told Eric Sparkes to “Go Back to Where You Came From” racism Race Politics North Carolina Georgia Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story Featured Post Erica Thomas donald trump democrats Culture Allow Media Exception

Ga. State Rep. Erica Thomas (D) and Georgia resident Eric Sparkes (D). Screen grab via WSB-TV.

The case involving Georgia State Rep. Erica Thomas (D) and Georgia resident Eric Sparkes (D) took an interesting twist on Tuesday when it was revealed that at least one of the Publix witnesses told police that they heard Thomas, and not Sparkes, repeatedly yell “go back to where you came from.”

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports:

A witness to a heated grocery store encounter between state Rep. Erica Thomas and a man she accused of uttering racist comments told authorities she didn’t hear him make those remarks, according to a Cobb County police report.

A Publix employee told a Cobb County officer that she witnessed part of the conversation and heard Thomas “continuously tell Eric Sparkes to ‘Go back where you came from!’” but did not hear Sparkes utter those words to Thomas.

In a report written by a police officer who reviewed the video, it was noted that Sparkes “did not appear to be irate” when he approached Thomas about the issue he had with her using the express lane, which is contra to Thomas’s claim that he came towards her aggressively with his fists clenched:

He wrote that Sparkes “did not appear to be irate” during the confrontation and that he quickly retreated from Thomas as she moved his way “pointing her finger at him.” When she moved toward Sparkes a second time, a Publix staffer waved for him to leave and Thomas turned to her daughter and paid for her items, he wrote. The dispute lasted about 45 seconds.

Two more witnesses who are Publix employees told police what they saw and heard:

The Publix employee, a customer service manager, told police that after Sparkes accosted Thomas he began to leave but “Ms. Thomas kept ‘running her mouth’ as she approached him.” Sparkes, she said, responded by repeatedly calling Thomas “ignorant.”

The employee told the officer that she did not hear either of them use profanity.

Another Publix staffer, Derrick Tompkins, told police he heard Sparkes call Thomas an expletive. Tompkins told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution he didn’t hear him tell her to “go back” to where she came from. “I’m not going to say that wasn’t said, but I don’t remember hearing it,” he said in an interview. “I’m going to leave it at that.”

Thomas’s attorney Gerald Griggs posted “the full police report” to his Twitter feed and said it backs up the claims Thomas made on her Facebook live. Please make sure to read the report in full:

Here’s Thomas’s Facebook live video:

Here are some key points to consider: On Saturday, the day after her Facebook live video, she backtracked on saying that Sparkes told her to “go back to where you came from.” She denied backtracking on anything in her Monday presser, but the videos tell a different story:

Remember that Thomas’s racism claims about Sparkes are what caused this story to blow up to begin with. If it’s no longer about racism but instead a man confronting a woman at an express lane, it’s still not a good scenario but as I said yesterday it’s a serious climb-down from her insinuation that Sparkes was motivated by the Trump rally where some attendees chanted “send her back” in reference to Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN).

Here’s what Thomas has said that does check out. She said that Sparkes left the store but then returned and approached her at the express lane. That’s true, according to the police report:

The second video clip I observed showed Mr. Sparkes walk to the first set of exit doors where he stopped and began speaking with Ms. Murrell [a store manager] who was standing at the exit. The video does not have audio, so what was said is unknown. After speaking with Ms. Murrell he then departs the inner doors and leaves the frame of the video. A few seconds later, Mr. Sparkes returns through the door and goes straight to the express lane where Ms. Thomas and her daughter were checking out.

So it’s clear from this report that Sparkes initiated the confrontation, although it’s not clear if he meant to be “confrontational.” Either way, no matter how irate you get over someone using an express lane to get checked out for more items than what the lane’s limit is, you just have to let that go. Pick and choose your battles. This is not a battle you choose. You simply walk away.

Sparkes admitted that he did call Thomas “a lazy, ignorant b****”, which Thomas said in the video. Thomas has said that in response to Sparkes’s alleged comments to her about “going back’ that she in turn told him to “go back” but she did not say she told him to “go back to where you came from.”

Because there is no audio police don’t know exactly what was said first and what the tone of voice was when it was said, and can only rely on witness testimony. But the police report makes it appear as though Thomas quickly gained control of the situation and repeatedly berated Sparkes as he was trying to back away, contra to the insinuation she made in the video that she was so off guard that she didn’t know what to say.

Also, Sparkes’s Facebook page has posts decrying Trump’s “go back to your country” tweets, so why would he say “go back to where you came from” to Thomas? As I speculated a couple of days ago, he probably told her to “go back” to a regular check out lane and that’s where the fuss began, and then she made the comment on her Facebook live about “go back to where you came from” that she backtracked on the next day.

There’s also this interesting tidbit of info. If the experience was as traumatic as she claimed it was, why post a Facebook live before you filed a report with the police?

On Tuesday, the Cobb County PD announced they would not be filing any criminal charges. Sparkes said Monday he is considering filing a defamation lawsuit against Thomas.

And So Robert Mueller Is Their Last Great Hope (Again)

Westlake Legal Group Robert-Mueller-620x325 And So Robert Mueller Is Their Last Great Hope (Again) Uncategorized Special Counsel Robert Mueller republicans Nancy Pelosi judicial committee Jerry Nadler hearing Front Page Stories Featured Story donald trump democrats

In a photo taken Wednesday, June 21, 2017, Special Counsel Robert Mueller departs after a closed-door meeting with members of the Senate Judiciary Committee about Russian meddling in the election and possible connection to the Trump campaign, at the Capitol in Washington. (AP Photo/J. Scott Applewhite)

Robert Mueller was going to be the great hope of the media and the Democrats. He would be the guy to bring Donald Trump down. The Democrats had pinned all their electoral hopes on it. The media reported every single leaked detail as a big, breaking story that would lead us down the path to impeachment.

And then, the leaks stopped seeming so hopeful. They started signaling that Trump may not be going down for collusion with the Russian government. But, maybe if his inner circle was compromised, that would bring the general public to their side!

Of course… that didn’t happen either. So, we were told to focus on the investigation into whether or not Trump obstructed justice. Wait, though! The U.S. Attorney’s Southern District of New York office was investigating the Trump organization! That is sure to bring something out. If he could be nailed with obstruction and/or the Trump Organization was found corrupt and compromised, then we surely have him!

Then Mueller’s report came out. They couldn’t determine obstruction, and the Attorney General declined to pursue it. The SDNY closed its investigation without bringing up charges.

Every narrative that went into Trump’s coming legal troubles fizzled well before they became anything close to substantial. In a last-ditch effort, Mueller is now set to appear before the House Judicial Committee, led by the increasingly erratic Jerry Nadler and frothing Democrats who are desperately searching for any soundbites they can use to prove Trump did… something.

The Mueller hearing, set to start at 9:30 a.m. this morning, will be nothing short of a disappointment to any and all who have to watch it.

There will, naturally, be reporters, pundits, and activists tweeting out everything that is said in this hearing, and you will be inundated with soundbites all day. I would like to tell you that some of these will mean something, and maybe we could be in for a surprise, but the formula for this is already set in stone.

The Democrats will give long-winded questions that are meant to make Mueller say that he wanted to recommend charges of obstruction, but his hands were tied by the Department of Justice guidelines on indicting a sitting president. They’ll want him, essentially, to say something that isn’t in his report. They want him to add new information in.

The Department of Justice, at Mueller’s request, has already said he should not go beyond the scope of his report, and he will have no urge to do so because doing so means admitting he was wrong in his report or his press conference. Mueller wants no part of this circus anymore. He wants to be done with it.

That is probably why he has an assistant who is going to be sworn in with him, to give more details than he might have. Mueller wants to talk as little as possible, and having someone else to get questioned is just another way to avoid the partisan guillotine that will be set up for him no matter how he answers.

The Republicans, meanwhile, are going to decry the insanity of continuing on this path when Mueller’s report has already said there is nothing to charge Trump over. They will ask Mueller if his hands were tied in any way by Donald Trump and his administration, and he will say “No” and that will be that. He’ll be asked that twenty-five different ways, but the answer won’t change.

I want to tell you that this hearing will have some meaning, some impact on our lives. But, you and I both know it is a colossal waste of time.

This is the last chance the Judicial Committee Democrats have, and I truly think they have put all of their eggs in the Mueller basket because they can’t back out now. They are stuck here, whether they know it or not. You don’t hear non-Judicial Committee Democratic leadership really commenting on the hearing. You don’t hear a thing from Pelosi’s office. There is an eerie quiet from pretty much all Democrats ahead of this hearing. They know.

You and I know, as well. There is no there there, and once that is undeniably proven (again), the Democrats will be forced to address the plainest and simplest of facts: Absent a miracle, there is nothing to invalidate Trump’s election and the problem in recent elections is them, not the Republicans.

Robert Mueller Pulls a Fast One on the Eve of His Testimony And Republicans Rightly Object

Westlake Legal Group Robert-Mueller-Paul-Manafort-620x372 Robert Mueller Pulls a Fast One on the Eve of His Testimony And Republicans Rightly Object testimony Russia Robert Mueller republicans Politics Playing Games Object Mueller report Jerry Nadler House Judiciary Committee Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story donald trump democrats andrew weissmann aaron zebley

Robert Mueller is scheduled to testify before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday morning about his investigation into Russian interference and Donald Trump. Democrats are hoping to complete a Hail Mary, trapping the former special counsel into saying that he’d have pressed charges if Trump weren’t President. That of course isn’t true, because Mueller and the DOJ have both made it clear that the President’s immunity did not factor into the decision.

No matter, Jerry Nadler and crew still hope to produce some kind of viral moment. The smart money is on that not happening, although you can bet the media will do everything they can to push mundane pronouncements as significant.

On the eve of his testimony, Robert Mueller has suddenly pulled a fast one though. Specifically, he’s now going to bring his deputy from the investigation to the hearing to answer some questions for him. This per The Daily Caller.

Former special counsel Robert Mueller asked Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee to swear in his longtime deputy as a witness at a congressional hearing Wednesday, according to multiple reports.

Mueller asked that Aaron Zebley, who served as deputy on the special counsel’s probe, be sworn in as a witness in order to address any questions that he is not able to answer, according to a source familiar with the matter, The New York Times and CNN reported.

Mueller is scheduled to testify before the House Judiciary Committee for three hours and before the House Intelligence Committee for two hours Wednesday. He will be pressed for details of his 22-month investigation into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia and whether President Donald Trump attempted to obstruct the probe.

The obvious question everyone should be asking is why?

Robert Mueller is supposedly the smartest among us, or so I’ve been told. An old pro who could can get to the bottom of anything. This is his report being testified on. Is he not intimately familiar with it? Does he not know everything that’s in his own report? What information could his deputy offer that Mueller shouldn’t already be aware of?

The answer may boil down to what some of us have suspected for a long time.

In other words, Mueller may not be the genius he’s been portrayed as and may have been more of a figurehead in the investigation. There have been rumors for a while that figures like Andrew Weissmann and Aaron Zebley were given wide latitude and you can see shifts in the style of the report that bare out the idea that it wasn’t Mueller’s conclusions being written down at all times. There was also the episode prior to the release of the report where unnamed members of the investigation leaked to the press that they disagreed with Mueller’s findings on obstruction, namely that he didn’t recommend charges. The schisms within Mueller’s team were obvious to see, even if the details were much harder to discern.

This last minute move has rightly got Republicans incensed.

Republicans pushed back on Mueller’s request, calling on Democrats to leave Zebley off the witness stand.

“If Democrats believe it is the special counsel’s responsibility to testify to his report, they have no ground for outsourcing that duty at the expense of our committee’s integrity,” Georgia Rep. Doug Collins, the top Republican on the Judiciary panel, said in a statement.

GOP Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, who sits on the Judiciary Committee and has been an outspoken critic of Mueller’s probe, was the first lawmaker to reveal that Democrats were considering allowing Zebley to testify.

“You don’t get to change the rules right before kickoff, especially after a 22 month, $30 million investigation,” Jordan said on Twitter.

There is no logical reason that Mueller needs to bring a tag along to answer questions for him if he actually did his job. Would any other witness be allowed to do that? I can’t think of any precedent for such. This testimony is supposed to be Mueller’s words, not some deputy. The only explanation is that Mueller doesn’t even know what’s in his own report and that’s actually perfectly believable given his bizarre press conference a few months ago.

Another factor here is that the DOJ has already told Zebley he’s not allowed to testify privately. Now, at the eleventh hour, he’s going to testify publicly? Is he defying the DOJ here? Nothing would surprise me at this point.

Unfortunately, Republicans do not control the committee, so it appears Jerry Nadler was happy to give into Mueller’s request in the hope that Zebley will drop a bombshell. I still don’t see that happening, but this game playing by Mueller once again reinforces that he’s not the straight shooter so many Republicans insisted he was.

Democratic Clash: Black Lives Matter Moves Into Indiana to Take Down Gay Presidential Candidate Pete Buttigieg

Liberal group #1 vs liberal group #2…Ready, GO!

What happens when Black Lives Matters faces down America’s first openly gay presidential candidate?

We’re about to find out: A couple of BLM leaders have set up camp in Indiana to oppose South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

Last Wednesday, a meeting was held in Pete’s town headlined by BLM LA’s Dr. Melina Abdulla.

The restaurant get-together was attended by relatives of Eric Logan, the 54-year-old black man who was shot and killed by a white cop in mid-June — while Pete B. was out campaigning as part of his crack at the 2020 Democratic nomination.

Quickly after the incident, Pete flew home for a town hall of sorts. But holy cow that didn’t go well (here and here).

Also present Wednesday: former union organizer Greg Akili, who was mentored by labor leader and activist Cesar Chavez.

Melina told the crowd of about 75 it’s time to rumble:

“What we saw with the murder of Eric Logan at the hands of police really is an opportunity to revisit and re-engage around the questions of police violence in black communities.”

Attendees were ready to mobilize against Mayor Buttigieg.

The effort’s also set to benefit from a new local group founded by Jorden Giger: BlackTavists.

Jorden described the purpose of the meeting to the Sount Bend Tribune:

“This was about getting everybody in a room and empowering each other and moving forward.”

So what was the situation surrounding the cop shooting? In part, this, from the Tribune:

Sgt. Ryan O’Neill shot Logan after responding to reports of car break-ins. Authorities have said Logan approached O’Neill with a fixed-blade knife and ignored repeated orders to drop it. The knife had been taken from a car in the area, authorities have said.

O’Neill, who resigned from the force this week, did not have his body camera turned on at the time of the shooting.

And, as reported by Huffpost:

A police sergeant who shot and killed a black man in South Bend, Indiana, over the weekend faced internal allegations of racist and derogatory comments, according to court documents obtained by HuffPost.

On July 13th, BlackTavists attended a Black Lives Matter rally, at which they issued a list of demands for Mayor Pete, which included him paying reparations to Eric Logan’s family, firing or demoting the town’s police chief, and — at the time — firing Sgt. O’Neill.

As per The Daily Wire, Pete’s in the hotseat. Having temporarily suspended his presidential bid following the shooting, he’s got no clout among black voters:

The Indianapolis Star reports that recent polling shows Buttigieg “at near zero percent with African American voters,” adding, he “kept hearing smatterings of ‘Black Lives Matter’” during an appearance at the Young Democrats of America Convention last Thursday night.

He’s trying to reverse the tide. Just days ago, he made what, in my view, appeared as a really, really pitiful and desperate political Hail Mary:

While campaigning in Iowa over the weekend, Buttigieg told ABC News that white supremacy “could be the lurking issue that ends this country.

So who ya got?! It’s like a transgender man coming up against a daughter of the Obamas. Who will the Left favor?

I’m putting my money on Black Lives Matter. But I could be wrong.

Wendy Davis Launched Her Congressional Campaign by Breaking Texas Senate Rules

Former Texas State Senator Wendy Davis announced this week that she would challenge Congressman Chip Roy (R-TX) for the Austin-based congressional district he represents. Within the first few moments of the launch of her campaign, she had already taken a very public action that appears to have violated Texas law.

Davis was a quiet, moderate presence during most of her years in the Texas Legislature, but all that changed on the day in June 2013 when she decided to don pink sneakers to filibuster a pro-life bill. Her efforts opposing a ban on late-term abortions and sanitation and safety requirements for abortion clinics allied her with a more extreme liberalism, re-branding her as a darling of the pro-abortion left and their supporters in Hollywood and the media.

One teeny-tiny little detail Davis’ fans often skip over: her infamous filibuster was a complete failure. She was able to hold the Texas Senate hostage long enough for the statutory deadline for the end of session to pass — and the bill therefore to fail — but then-Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX) responded nearly immediately with an order for the Legislature to return for a special session.

The special session’s only topic was that pro-life bill, it passed, and Perry signed it into law. Since then, the law has been challenged by several lawsuits, and has had some modifications and restrictions, but it survives and has been credited with contributing to the number of abortion clinics in Texas decreasing.

Davis followed up her failed filibuster by running for Texas Governor. Perry was not running for re-election and then-Attorney General Greg Abbott (R-TX) won the Republican nomination. Abbott easily defeated Davis by nearly 20 points, winning the women’s vote, the Rio Grande Valley (a heavily-Hispanic and Democrat-leaning area), and even Davis’ own state senate district in the Fort Worth area.

And now Davis wants to follow up that failure by running for an Austin congressional district where she does not live. It’s just a convenient target as a metropolitan area with a Republican Congressman who attracts a lot of media attention.

So far, the Wendy Davis for Congress campaign is not off to a great start.

Davis is a Harvard-educated lawyer who was able to hold her filibuster for the requisite number of hours to force the special session because she had studied the finer points of legislative procedure, but made an embarrassing blunder by violating her former office’s basic ethical rules.

When Davis launched her campaign Monday morning, she sent out several online videos calling for donations — a standard tactic for a newly-launched campaign, especially for a candidate with a national media profile like Davis had.

The problem was with at least two of the videos that showed Davis standing on the floor of the Texas Senate chambers, asking for supporters to help her raise $100,000 in her first 48 hours.

Filming political or campaign ads in the Texas Capitol is against the State Preservation Board rules. Media organizations and non-profit organizations may take stock footage and use it if permission is granted ahead of time, but a fundraising video for a political candidate is clearly a violation.

Davis’ violation was called out by her hometown paper, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, which contacted Patsy Spaw, the Secretary of the Senate, who confirmed the rule-breaking:

While Davis has spent hours on the Senate floor as a former state senator, Secretary of the Senate Patsy Spaw said State Preservation Board policy prohibits political or campaign filming in the Capitol, which includes the Senate Chamber.

“Likewise, Senate policy prohibits political/campaign filming in the Senate Chamber. Permission to film was not requested and permission was not granted,” Spaw wrote in an email.

Spaw said that while the Senate isn’t able to monitor every tourist who films on the Senate floor, videos taken on the floor can’t be used for political purposes. Groups, such as media organizations, may take stock footage of the chamber if permission is given ahead of time.

A spokesman for Davis’ campaign, Hector Nieto, attempted to deflect the issue, emailing the Star-Telegram, “We disagree. Wendy is a private citizen and not seeking state office.”

Being a “private citizen” does not exempt Davis from the rules here. Filming in the Senate Chamber is prohibited for political and campaign purposes, period. The restrictions are not just for current state legislators, but for all political candidates and organizations, and all other filming is subject to review and prior permission must be requested. The Davis campaign did not do this.

This isn’t some obscure or weird rule unique to Texas, either. Most states — as well as the United States Congress — place restrictions, if not outright prohibitions, on filming political campaign ads in their chambers, or using footage from official legislative hearings and procedures in ads. It’s a fair and nonpartisan rule applied to current and former officeholders of all political affiliations, and the purpose is to keep the legislature’s business from being more overtly political than it already is by nature.

When legislators are acting in their official capacity, they should focus on the business of representing the people in their district, and let them make their campaign ads in their free time. If Davis were actually an Austin resident, perhaps she would be more familiar with the many scenic areas nearby where she could have filmed an ad instead of breaking the rules.

Let’s Add FGM To The List Of Things Ilhan Omar Refuses To Condemn Like Al Qaeda and Hamas

Does anyone recall Rep. Ilhan Omar’s exchange with Elliott Abrams, the U.S. Special Envoy to Venezuela, during a February hearing before the House Foreign Affairs Committee? It was difficult to forget. Just one month into her term, and Omar was on the power trip of her life.

During the questioning, Abrams tried to explain his answers and Omar repeatedly cut him off, with a sharp, “Yes or no.”

“Yes or no. Do you think that massacre was a fabulous achievement that happened under our watch?,” she asked Abrams.

“That is a ridiculous question, and — no!,” Abrams answered.

“I will take that as a yes,” Omar said.

(The clip can be watched in the video below. The relevant portion begins at 2:10.)

It was with this same sense of moral superiority that she answered Ani Zonneveld, president of Muslims for Progressive Values when she had the temerity to ask Omar, “Will you be able to make a statement against FGM? Because that’s an issue in Detroit, and it would be really powerful if the two Muslim Congresswomen, yourself and Rashida, would make a statement on this issue.”

Omar said it was “an appalling question.” She then delivered a sarcastic, two minute lecture to this woman, never answering the question (the clip appears in the tweet below). Here is a portion of her answer.

Should I make a schedule? Like, does this need to be on repeat every 5 minutes? Should I be like, ‘so, today I forgot to condemn Al-Qaeda, so here’s the Al-Qaeda one. Today I forgot to condemn FGM so here it goes. Today I forgot to condemn Hamas so here it goes.’ It is a very frustrating question that comes up.”

And so, I think really I am quite disgusted, to be honest, that as Muslim legislators, we are constantly being asked to waste our time speaking to issues that other people are not asked to speak to because the assumption exists that we somehow support [it].

The questioner should have cut her off abruptly and snapped, “Yes or no, Ms. Omar.”

Here are a few reactions to Omar’s answer from Twitter users (via Twitchy):

She spent two minutes condemning questions she doesn’t like, so clearly she has no problem condemning things. It’s what she repeatedly refuses to condemn that’s troubling.

So she still won’t condemn those things? Got it.

It’s a yes or no question. Why is that a waste of time?

If she would just answer, people would quit asking.

The thing she vehemently condemns is being held accountable. SMH

Evade, evade, evade. Nicely done, Ilhan. Interesting that I can still never find any video evidence of you denouncing Hamas, Al Qaeda or the Muslim Brotherhood.

Is “yes I condemn them” so hard to say?

All she had to do is say yes. Instead she belittles the person who asked the question then continues to lecture the audience on priorities. She is not much of a politician. How did she ever get elected?

Seems like it would have taken less time to just condemn these things than to give this explanation and she’d never have to do it again. Makes you wonder why she just doesn’t come out against it, doesn’t it?

Noticed that she never answered the question. Speaking around the question is not the same as an answer.

Just answer the question!

I guess my question is this…Has she EVER condemned any of those things? Ever? Perhaps if she did then folks would stop asking her to condemn them.

She can condemn a question but not FGM. Interesting.

Instead of rambling on for 3 minutes, @IlhanMN could have simply said, “yes I’m against female genital mutilation.” Period. 3 seconds.

Conservatives are asked to condemn things all the time. Turnabout is fair play.

So let me get this straight. Every white politician has to denounce white supremacy just because they’re white even though they have nothing to do with it. But Omar is trying to make the argument that because she a Muslim she’s shouldn’t have to denounce terrorists or terrorism?

Triggered. All day. Everyday.

Regardless of who you support, facts is that she condemns POTUS and his actions all the time…..notice how she has no trouble taking a daily stand there…..that’s all you need to know……

So seriously, when Trump wins the popular vote and electoral college landslide, what will the Dems do?
