Color me shocked, just shocked that Rep. Adam Schiff, one of the most underhanded, dishonest Congressional members in modern history, would stoop to such levels.

This relates to Kurt Volker’s testimony, which turned out to be a major dud for Schiff and his gang. While Volker, being a former John McCain staffer, was expected to come in and fillet Trump, it turned out that he didn’t have much to add to the impeachment fury. Trump, for whatever problems one might have with him talking about Biden in the first place, simply didn’t engage in a quid pro quo, threaten aid, or pressure the Ukrainians.

As I wrote at the time, it was reported that Schiff got so frustrated with how things were going that he sidelined his MSNBC lawyer to question Volker himself. Now, we know why he did that and we’ve got the transcript to illustrate what happened.

This per the Washington Examiner.

Democrat House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff reportedly pressed U.S. special representative to Ukraine Kurt Volker in a secret meeting on October 3 to say that President Donald Trump pressured Ukrainian officials to investigate former Vice President and current Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden.

For someone who likes to mock the President for supposedly sounding like a mob boss, that last line sound rather mob bossy to me. Schiff wasn’t getting the answer he wanted so he lashed out and berated the witness. Seems normal, right?
Here’s the rest of the exchange in question, where you can see Schiff continuing to press him to say something he clearly doesn’t think is actually true.

[Schiff] asked Volker whether he would agree that “no President of the United States should ever ask a foreign leader to help intervene in a U.S. election.”

“I agree with that,” said Volker.

“And that would be particularly egregious if it was done in the context of withholding foreign assistance?” Schiff continued.

Volker balked. “We’re getting now into, you know, a conflation of these things that I didn’t think was actually there.”

Schiff wanted Volker to agree that “if it’s inappropriate for a president to seek foreign help in a U.S. election, it would be doubly so if a president was doing that at a time when the United States was withholding military support from the country.”

Again, Volker did not agree. “I can’t really speak to that,” he said. “My understanding of the security assistance issue is — ”

Schiff interrupted. “Why can’t you speak to that, ambassador? You’re a career diplomat. You can understand the enormous leverage that a president would have while withholding military support from an ally at war with Russia. You can understand just how significant that would be, correct?”

Volker tried to go along without actually agreeing. “I can understand that that would be significant,” he said.

Schiff persisted. “And when that suspension of aid became known to that country, to Ukraine, it would be all the more weighty to consider what the president had asked of them, wouldn’t it?”

“So again, congressman, I don’t believe — ” Volker began.

“It’s a pretty straightforward question,” Schiff said.

“But I don’t believe the Ukrainians were aware that the assistance was being held up — ”

“They became aware of it,” Schiff said.

“They became aware later, but I don’t believe they were aware at the time, so there was no leverage implied,” Volker said.

If this were a Republican and this was the Benghazi hearing, it’d be front page news. As it stands, Schiff appears to be bulletproof in the legacy media. His actions are just ridiculous at this point. He’s holding secret hearings, kicking Republicans out of testimony, and selectively leaking lines he thinks can help his impeachment case.

This isn’t justice. It’s not even proper in the political arena. It’s just plain gross.

President Trump Immolates ABC’s Jon Karl In Must-See Television

This afternoon, President Trump and Italian President Sergio Mattarella held a press conference at the White House. One of the questioners was ABC’s Jon Karl. Karl’s presence was nearly guaranteed to be a lightning rod because Karl has been in the middle of demanding that President Trump “condemn” a video he had nothing to do with because it resulted in hurt feelings and soiled undies.

The video is a meme created from the church massacre scene in the (I thought until the media started squirting feces from their skin pores over it) comedy Kingsman: The Secret Service. Presented for your enjoyment:

They demand the condemnation because they are a priesthood and we aren’t allowed to mock them.

Anyway, at the press conference Karl asked a snide and tendentious question

Even after all you have seen — ISIS prisoners freed, all the humanitarian disaster — you don’t have any regret for giving Erdogan the greenlight to invade?

President Trump rejected the question and then gave Karl a taste of the condemnation treatment:

When you ask a question like that, it’s very deceptive, Jon,it’s almost as deceptive as you showing all of the bombings taking place in Syria and it turned out the bombing you showed on television took place in Kentucky. I’m not even sure ABC apologized for that [note–they tweeted an apology but have yet to make an on air apology or retraction]. But certainly, it was a terrible thing. I was looking at that and think, “Wow, that’s pretty bad,” and it was in Kentucky, it wasn’t in Syria. So I don’t know what you’re going to do about that, but I think ABC owes an apology.

What President Trump was referring to was the incident I posted on in ABC News Perpetrates a Fraud on the Nation and the Intrepid Media Fact Check Organizations Are Totally Missing in Action. ABC deliberately, and I say that admiringly because if they didn’t do it deliberately then it is probably the most buffoonish and incompetent news organization ever, used video from an civilian automatic weapons range in Kentucky and claimed it was in Syria.

I’m sure there will be a lot of sniveling over this and The Bulwark and The Dispatch boys and girls will be gravely offended that the President is publicly calling out a news organization for engaging in political propaganda campaign to damage his administration, but this is needed and it needs to be done constantly. Unless the media decide to clean up their act and behave as though they were not an arm of the Democrat party, every Republican and conservative should treat them as though they are the enemy.

Democratic Impeachment Talking Points Leak, But They’re All Things Dems Have Allegedly Done

Westlake Legal Group NancyPelosiAPimage Democratic Impeachment Talking Points Leak, But They’re All Things Dems Have Allegedly Done impeachment Hillary Clinton Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story Featured Post donald trump democrats Congress Barack Obama Allow Media Exception Abuse of Power

Here are the Democratic talking points on impeachment, composed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, reported by LA Times congressional reporter Jennifer Haberkorn.

But there are some problems with these talking points re: the Ukraine call.

First, let’s start with that they’ve pretty much all been debunked.

1. National Security. Democrats claim President Donald Trump endangered our national security by withholding “critical military aid” for his “personal political gain.”

That never happened. First, no aid was ever actually withheld. Second, while the administration was considering holding up aid over issues of corruption, Kurt Volker testified that the Ukrainians were not aware of that on the call and so that it couldn’t have been used as a quid pro quo on the call. The Ukrainian president also confirmed that there was no pressure and no quid pro quo mentioned. The transcript also confirmed that that never came up.

2. Undermined our elections. Democrats claim that Trump was using the power of his office to solicit interference from a foreign country in the 2020 election, actions that pose a risk to national security.

Trump asked the Ukrainian president to check if the investigation into Burisma was shut down properly. He did not solicit interference in the 2020 election. An important point to make when most media is reporting it as he requested they investigate Hunter/Joe Biden. That’s not what he said.

3. Abuse of Power. They claim Trump abused his power by pressuring Ukraine to interfere in the 2020 election to “do us a favor though.” But the “do us a favor” comment didn’t relate to the Biden conversation, it related to the question of investigating the 2016 election interference, Trump was asking about the server and Crowdstrike. How does that have anything to do with 2020? And why do the Democrats not want to get to the bottom of 2016 interference and what happened to the DNC server? What’s wrong with wanting that investigated?

4. No one is above the law. All they say here is the president will be held accountable. Apparently winning in 2016 is for what he is being “held accountable.”

The problem with this list? They’re all things that Democrats have allegedly done, some in the process of trying to get Trump.

Withholding aid for personal political gain?

There’s Joe Biden’s threat, admitted on video, that he would withhold aid if they didn’t fire the prosecutor. The prosecutor later filed an affidavit in an Austrian legal matter saying he’d been fired because he was in fact investigating Burisma, Joe Biden’s son’s firm. Biden disputes that, saying he was only trying to get the prosecutor fired because of corruption.

As Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) notes, there’s also a letter from three Democratic senators in 2018, threatening withholding aid if the Ukrainians didn’t help to provide info in the Mueller probe. As Paul notes, why is that ok but what Trump did is not?

How about undermining elections?

Where do we begin? Democrats buying alleged Russian information through foreign national Christopher Steele/Fusion GPS, to undermine Trump. Democrats allegedly involved in soliciting interference from Ukraine in the 2016 election to get dirt on Paul Manafort to undermine Trump. See the Democrats 2018 letter mentioned above which could also apply here.

Abuse of power?

What do you call conducting an “impeachment inquiry” without a formal bipartisan vote, with Democrats kicking GOP members out and hearings being held in secret with witnesses when there’s nothing classified in the hearing? With Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) making up what was said in the call and misleading about the contacts he and his staff had with the whistleblower. What do you call endless investigations in regard to Russia and now the Ukraine call when there’s far more to suggest that Democrats themselves should be investigated, if you applied the same standards?

Nobody is above the law.

This perhaps should be changed to no Republican is above the law. Because since the Obama administration, it has seemed that Democrats are often above the law, while Republicans like Trump are “below” the law.

John Brennan’s CIA spied on Congress and Brennan lied about it. The Obama administration was caught spying on reporters. Hillary Clinton sent and received classified information on a private server. No consequences for any of those few examples, there are many more.

Will there be consequences for the surveillance on the Trump team? The Ukraine meddling in the 2016 election? US Attorney John Durham is looking into it. The FISA abuse IG report is expected soon.

But given prior history, don’t bet the farm on anyone facing consequences.

While yesterday’s full video from Project Veritas #Expose CNN series was relatively tame, today founder James O’Keefe reports an instance that is truly despicable.

While CNN host Jake Tapper was on the air interviewing White House Senior Advisor Kellyanne Conway, CNN President Jeff Zucker enters the control room and tells the show’s executive producer to skip commercials, extend the interview from seven minutes to 25, and to “just f***ing nail her.”

The whistleblower, Cary Poarch, donned his hidden camera and recorded his exchange with CNN Media Coordinator Christian Sierra. He asked Sierra, “So Jeff Zucker runs the show?”

Sierra responded by saying, “Jeff Zucker runs the show. He made, he will personally go into the control room. and if Jake Tapper’s interviewing Kellyanne Conway, he went into the control room during that interview and he was like, keep going and keep going. Ask the questions. We’ll pass the commercial breaks. Keep going…I mean they turned a seven minute interview into a 25 minute interview.”

Poarch asked why.

Sierra said, “Because Jeff Zucker personally got on the phone with the Executive Producer of Tapper’s show.”

Poarch asked what was happening.

Sierra replied, “Oh, he got into his ear. He was interviewing Kellyanne Conway and it was a tough exchange. She was arguing back and forth with Jake Tapper and Zucker told them in the ear piece, keep going, keep going, keep going. Don’t stop you guys.”

Poarch said, “Cause you were jamming her up.”

“Yeah.”

Sierra is referring to an exchange between Tapper and Conway over the North Korean hostages. Sierra felt this treatment of Conway was fine because “she lies all the time.”

This clip is from Part 3 of the Expose which O’Keefe plans on Thursday. Maybe O’Keefe thought releasing the whole video would be overshadowed by coverage of the Democratic Debate.

Part 1 was interesting, part 2, a disappointment. We’ll see what the full part 3 brings us. If there’s anything that’s interesting, I’ll post it.

Leftist Group is DEMANDING That Democrats Name Who They Would Appoint To Supreme Court

The Left wants a list of who POTUS candidates would put in this building.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, even if it involves progressives copying Donald Trump.

Ripping a page right out of Donald Trump’s election playbook from 2016, the group Demand Justice has called for all the Democrats running for President declare publicly who that would nominate out of the handy dandy list they provided.

How convenient and very copy cat-ish of Trump 3 years ago.

According to The Washington Post

Democratic presidential contenders are coming under increased pressure from their base to take a page from Donald Trump’s 2016 playbook and release a shortlist of potential Supreme Court nominees — one part of a larger strategy from party activists to make the courts a central issue in the 2020 race.

Demand Justice, a group founded to counteract the conservative wing’s decades-long advantage over liberals in judicial fights, will release a list of 32 suggested Supreme Court nominees for any future Democratic president as they ramp up their push for the 2020 contenders to do the same.

The slate of potential high court picks includes current and former members of Congress, top litigators battling the Trump administration’s initiatives in court, professors at the nation’s top law schools and public defenders. Eight are sitting judges. They have established track records in liberal causes that Demand Justice hopes will energize the liberal base.

Seems like the progressives have FINALLY learned the lesson of paying some attention to the third branch of the government.

Now you can go ahead and take a look at that list and if you are like me, be absolutely puzzled by who all those people are. Lucky for us commoners, Carrie Severino from the Judicial Crisis Network just yesterday wrote a piece over at National Review called Demand Justice’s SCOTUS List Is Too Extreme Even for Obama that helps give us an idea of the backgrounds of these folks.

From the article…

Demand Justice’s list has 32 names on it. Only four of those are Obama-nominated judges. Shockingly, only eight have any judicial experience at all! While President Trump’s list of Supreme Court nominees currently includes 24 individuals, of whom 23 are experienced federal or state judges, the extremists at Demand Justice have clearly taken a different tack. Their list — which they are lobbying Democratic candidates to adopt — is wholly consumed by far-left activism and identity politics.

They see the courts as their ticket to implementing their radical policy agenda, which includes gutting the First and Second Amendments, establishing a right to illegal immigration and abortion on demand straight through birth, and destroying our economy by imposing burdensome regulations on everyone from Main Street to Wall Street.

When I first read this I thought, well maybe the Obama nominated judges that were confirmed don’t have enough seasoning yet. Then further on reading, I find out that 24 of them don’t have ANY JUDICIAL EXPERIENCE at all.

Did no one pay attention during the Harriet Miers fiasco under Bush 43?

So the left has put together a list of people that they want on the court that the vast majority have ZERO experience on the bench. They are straight-up activists. I actually admire Demand Justice brazen truthfulness here in trying to push this on the Dems.

Severino commented on twitter about how the candidates when finally asked ran from the subject and tried to change the subject like it was the plague.

What this tells me is that the left is organizing to do the same thing conservatives have done but the candidates are not focused on this at the stage of the game they are currently in. This might change after a nominee is picked but for now, it looks like they are more interested in impeachment than who they would put onto the court.

That works for me.

Gabbard Was Right: It Was ALWAYS About Regime Change in Syria

Last night during the Democrat debate, and even today via various commentary, the only ones who appear to really know what is going on in Syria, are President Donald Trump and Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard. When asked her opinion regarding the recent events in Syria, Gabbard said,

Well, first of all, we’ve got to understand the reality of the situation there, which is that the slaughter of the Kurds being done by Turkey is yet another negative consequence of the regime change war that we’ve been waging in Syria.

Donald Trump has the blood of the Kurds on his hands, but so do many of the politicians in our country from both parties who have supported this ongoing regime change war in Syria that started in 2011, along with many in the mainstream media, who have been championing and cheerleading this regime change war.

Mayor Buttigieg responded,

Well, respectfully, Congresswoman, I think that is dead wrong. The slaughter going on in Syria is not a consequence of American presence. It’s a consequence of a withdrawal and a betrayal by this president of American allies and American values.

Gabbard put him away with the following,

Yeah, absolutely. So, really, what you’re saying, Mayor Pete, is that you would continue to support having U.S. troops in Syria for an indefinite period of time to continue this regime change war that has caused so many refugees to flee Syria, that you would continue to have our country involved in a war that has undermined our national security, you would continue this policy of the U.S. actually providing arms in support to terrorist groups in Syria, like Al Qaida, HTS, al-Nusra and others, because they are the ones who have been the ground force in this regime change war? That’s really what you’re saying?

I could tell that Gabbard had had an outsized effect as the moderators let former Vice President Biden have the last word,

And with regard to regime change in Syria, that has not been the policy we change the regime. It has been to make sure that the regime did not wipe out hundreds of thousands of innocent people between there and the Iraqi border..

Gabbard must have struck a nerve. After the debate, the on the air commentary by the leftist punditry hit her for straying off the Democrat plantation on this particular issue. That continued in print today with VOX’s “Winners and Losers” column (emphasis mine)

The congresswoman from Hawaii has premised her entire candidacy on fierce opposition to US military adventurism abroad. Tonight, she had a chance to distinguish herself during a lengthy foreign policy debate — and made a series of blatantly false statements.

VOX goes on

The US is not waging a war of regime change in Syria (as Biden pointed out later in the debate). American troops are in northern Syria assisting Kurdish forces in combating the ISIS presence in the country. The reason Turkey invaded the Kurdish-held territory is that it sees the Kurds as terrorists and doesn’t want them to have a quasi-state on its border. And it was able to launch the invasion because President Donald Trump pulled out US troops.

But Gabbard’s comment wasn’t a one-off error. Again and again, Gabbard called for an end to the “regime war in Syria,” which is simply not what’s happening there. She bizarrely blamed the “regime change war” for the Syrian refugee crisis, instead of the murderous regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, which has indiscriminately attacked populated areas.

When Buttigieg challenged her shaky analysis, saying that “the slaughter going on in Syria is not a consequence of American presence, it a consequence of a withdrawal and a betrayal,” she accused him of supporting “endless war.” His response was succinct and devastating: “You can put an end to endless war without embracing Donald Trump’s policy, as you’re doing.”

In a post debate hot take, my colleague Bonchie had this to say

The United States miscalucated on Libya and Syria. That’s the point Gabbard has been consistently making, even when the rest of her party was cheer-leading those interventions. That may not matter to the talking head sitting in an MSNBC studio today, but it should matter to the rest of us, and whether you agree with Gabbard or not, at least be intellectually honest enough to admit that the war in Syria didn’t start in 2017.

Why was Gabbard cut off? Why has the entire leftist establishment gone after her? My colleague has indicated that the mainstream left, was protecting Elizabeth Warren…and possibly Joe Biden, though the jury is still out on that second part. I believe there is a lot more to it than that. They are protecting the legacy of President Barack Hussein Obama.

This whole Syria mess belongs to Obama. As I mentioned in a previous series of pieces on Syria (links below) President Obama, at the urging of his UN Ambassador Samantha Powers, supported by his National Security Advisor, Susan Rice, came up with a U.S. doctrine known as “Responsibility To Protect” or RTP. It is this failed doctrine that is responsible for the exaggerated death toll in the area.

But, the Obama/Powers doctrine didn’t start in Syria. Prior to its employment in Syria, it had already resulted in two key allied governments being overthrown and one allied President being murdered. In the case of Libya’s Qaddafi, then-Secretary of State Clinton was heard to cackle, “We came. We saw. He died.” Think about that. We supported and then celebrated the demise of a former hostile enemy who had made peace with us. We celebrated his murder in the street.

In Egypt, President Hosni Mubarak was also overthrown (but not murdered). His successor, a radical Islamist named Morsi, was vocally supported by the Obama Administration. Typical of the Obama/Powers foreign policy, a cooperating ally was replaced with a hostile one, the more radical the better. Fortunately, Morsi was toppled by a popularly backed military coup and Egypt ultimately elected a President who, after Obama’s departure, has sought closer ties with the U.S. and extended cooperation with Israel.

In Syria, the Obama administration thought they could extend their tough-guy foreign policy by toppling yet another dictator. Once again they would hide behind the skirts of RTP while trying to depose Bashar al-Assad. Assad was in the middle of a civil war, a leftover result from the same “Arab Spring” upheavals that made Qaddafi and Mubarak vulnerable.

What the Obama-Powers team did next, is why we now have a situation where we are in confrontations with a NATO ally and Syrian backed Russian forces, as we try to defend two groups of terrorists. President Obama just had to meddle in the Syrian civil war, a conflict that had absolutely no negative impact on the interests of the United States. What this did, was convince President Assad that he needed some help—and fast. So what did he do? He invited in the Russians, sweetening the pot with what they’ve always wanted—a port for their navy.

The Russians being good military partners, also brought some ground troops and some airplanes. They had enough airplanes flying patrol, that we had to establish a hotline with their field commanders to “deconflict” our flights and theirs. I’ve mentioned before that, according to international conventions, which we are a signatory to, if a Russian aircraft downed a U.S. plane over Syria, killing the pilot, we would be at fault. That’s right. The Russians are there at the invitation of the legal sovereign in Syria. We, on the other hand, are in a foreign country without its permission.

Meanwhile, ISIS was getting some traction in Iraq and Northern Syria. What did the Obama Administration do? It decided to once again take on “partners” of questionable character, namely two Kurdish terrorist organizations, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) (Turkish Kurds). These two groups indeed did a fine job in killing ISIS fighters, which they would have done anyhow as they were already fighting them. But as they seized ground in Northern Syria, they also killed their fair share of Christians and destroyed priceless antiquities—something Assad did not do. A big part of his long term support in Syria was that he left Christians and the Druze alone.

Now that the ISIS threat was gone, President Erdogan wanted to rid himself of the danger a border enclave of SDF and PKK would pose to his country. Remember, tens of thousands of Turks have been killed in PKK terrorist attacks. Erdogan had a righteous concern. So, he gave his NATO ally due notice and sent his Army to clean up the border area. President Trump, wisely not wanting to get involved in an anti-terrorism operation by a NATO ally, nor put U.S Troops unduly at risk, got our folks out of the way.

Interestingly, far from being totally massacred, the SDK and the PKK now have found new allies—Syria and the Russians. In not too long a time, the revolutionaries who were trying to break free from Assad, are now voluntarily back in the fold, Assad is more firmly entrenched in power and now the Russians have their very own port and increased influence in the area. All of this as a result of President Obama sticking his nose into other countries’ business. However, where we are now, does provide a clue as to how we get out of this imbroglio. Stay tuned.

Apparently, she also hosts the Period Podcast, “a podcast about ladypart science.”

And if you’re worried about sexual violence in the world, Kate’s fixing it:

As for the job opening, she’s got some interest:

“Can I get a second PhD? Because I think I would love that environment!”

“I mean… it’s too late for me. But are you looking for postdocs?”

“Is the fall start strict? I have a current masters student who would be really interested in this, but doesn’t finish until end of 2020!”

“If this had been two years ago I would have been there in a second! Doing my PhD already but if/when you’re looking for a post doc in a few years, you’ll hear from me so quick”

Some naysayers got serious:

“Dr. Clancy, you should come see the institutional racism and slaughter of whites in South Africa. Some liberals calls it payback. Was never this bad under Apartheid though. Read the book “Kill the Boer” by Ernst Roets.”

“Makes me highly suspicious of your work. The study of biology should have no political leaning, and to recruit on ideological bent is a huge red flag. I knew this crap was in the humanities, but it seems it’s metastasising…”

“If you had any sense whatsoever you would completely and utterly ashamed of yourself for spreading this ideological excrement. It is truly a a clear indication of a deep disorder of the mind.”

And there was this head-scratcher:

But then there were these:

And this:

I’m posting this one mostly for the screen name:

And just in case you’re interested in the opening but intimidated by Kate’s academic disposition, she’s a chick who can get casual with the best of ’em:

It’s The Economy Stupid

James Carville would be rolling over in his grave if he were in one now being Trump could use his famous line from the 1992 election. The way Carville looks though, he might be sleeping in one actually.

According to a story over at Moody’s   the 45th President will keep his place at 1600 Pennsylvania for another 4 years if the economy holds up.

President Donald Trump looks likely to cruise to reelection next year under three different economic models Moody’s Analytics employed to gauge the 2020 race.

Barring anything unusual happening, the president’s Electoral College victory could easily surpass his 2016 win over Democrat Hillary Clinton, which came by a 304-227 count.

Moody’s based its projections on how consumers feel about their own financial situation, the gains the stock market has achieved during Trump’s tenure and the prospects for unemployment, which has fallen to a 50-year low. Should those variables hold up, the president looks set to get another four-year term.

The modeling has been highly accurate going back to the 1980 election, missing only once.

That one time that their model was wrong? Of course, it was the 2016 election where Donald Trump beat the wife of Bill Clinton.

The lowest electoral number Trump gets in these models is 289 which is above the 270 votes needed to win. The highest he gets is 352 which looks like a pipe dream to me.

This is all factored in on the economy doing well which under ANY OTHER President would be a safe, reliable gauge. However in the “Age of Trump” nothing is the same as it was prior to his election in Nov. of 2016 and you pretty much have to throw the rule book out and start rewriting it.

I live in the State of Michigan which Trump flipped to Republican for the first time since 1988. Team Bill’s wife did not take the threat serious that Michigan was up for grabs until the last 10 days of the election and they lost the state by 11.000 votes.

That is not going to happen again where the Democrats are asleep at the wheel.

So just based on the economy this should be a slam dunk for President Trump and he should win by a country mile.

We will see in less than 13 months if these predictions come true.

Biden Campaign’s 3Q ‘Cash on Hand’ Less Than Half of Top Tier Rivals; Trump Has More Cash Than All 2020 Candidates Combined

The Biden campaign’s supply of “cash on hand” at the end of the third quarter stood at just under $9 million according to a report in today’s Wall Street Journal. That compares to almost $34 million for Sen. Bernie Sanders, $25.7 million for Sen. Elizabeth Warren and $23.4 million for South Bend, IN mayor Pete Buttigieg. Even Sen. Kamala Harris had $10.5 million in cash on hand.

What, if anything, does this mean for the Biden campaign going forward? Are donors sensing that his candidacy may be irreparably damaged by Biden’s March 2016 threat to withhold $1 billion in U.S. aid unless Ukraine fired the Prosecutor General who was about to investigate his son. Maybe that, on top of all the questions about his mental acuity which surfaced over the summer, have supporters doubting his viability.

The Journal reported that Biden’s campaign raised $15.7 million and spent $17.7 million during the quarter, making it the only campaign in the top four to have spent more than they’d raised. Payroll accounted for $9 million for the period.

Senior advisor to Biden’s campaign, Symone Sanders told the Journal they believe “the primary election will be a dogfight that will continue well after the first few states have voted…This isn’t something that’s going to be over in Iowa or New Hampshire.”

According to the report, most of Sanders’ and Warren’s contributions have come from small donors. Conversely, many of Biden’s donors have contributed the maximum legal amount.

The report also showed that six of the lower tier candidates had less than $1 million in cash on hand on September 30.

Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan had about $158,000 left in the bank, and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro —who was on the debate stage Tuesday—had less than $700,000 in available cash. Mr. Castro has said he would drop out of the race if he isn’t in the debate next month, and he hasn’t yet qualified for it.

Author Marianne Williamson, who missed qualifying for Tuesday’s debate, was down to about $725,000.

Montana Gov. Steve Bullock had less than $1.4 million in the bank—a smaller amount than even New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, who quit the presidential race in late August.

Although Biden remains ahead in some polls, Elizabeth Warren appears to be eclipsing him. Some are even calling her the new frontrunner. She certainly has momentum behind her. And she had a strong performance in last night’s Democratic debate in Ohio.

In the meantime, Matt Wolking, The Deputy Director of Communications for the Trump campaign announced that Trump/RNC had a whopping $158 million in cash on hand at the end of the quarter. On Tuesday, Wolking tweeted that “the Trump campaign, authorized joint fundraising committees, and the Republican National Committee (RNC) will report $158 million combined in cash on hand at the end of Q3.” That’s more than the total amount collected by all of the 2020 Democrats.

Elton John Comes Through – Again – and Has a Lot to Say About George W. Bush

Hey, you know that idea that you can’t be friends with someone if you disagree?

Well, its dumb.

Spread the word — there are lots of people who apparently haven’t heard.

For some reason, many folks — I think it’s not wholly wrong to say, mostly from the left side of the aisle — have fancied separating from friends and previously-loved ones who vote differently as some sort of virtue.

It isn’t, of course, and whenever you weaken the fabric of family and community, you weaken the fabric of the country.

And someone who’s aware of that fact is Sir Elton John.

Among the hoopla over Ellen DeGeneres — say it ain’t so — talking and joking with George W. Bush at an NFL game, the “Candle in the Wind” hitmaker had a thing or two to say.

“I admire Ellen for standing up and saying what she said.”

He was referring to her defense — her claim that she and W. are friends, and that’s how it’s s’posed to go.

Speaking to NPR, he Amen’d her message of true tolerance — that is, one that goes both ways.

In case you missed it, here’s Ellen being as right as Sweet Irish Creme in your favorite K cup confection:

Back to Elton, he delivered more of the good goods:

“George Bush has made a lot of mistakes. I made a lot of mistakes. Ellen DeGeneres has made a lot of mistakes. People need to come together.”

As per Fox News, the singer lamented the current state of affairs:

“Unfortunately, what our democracy has become now is that it’s not okay to have different opinions than yours. And that is not healthy.”

He even praised W. for launching the $85 billion 50-country-wide AIDS initiative PEPFAR — the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief.

“PEPFAR came from the Republicans. People have to remember that. … [It’s] the most incredible thing a Republican president has done on a philanthropic level.”

“[People] need to respect people’s views on life,” Elton said.

“Except when it’s heresy, and I don’t think George Bush is that kind of guy.”

I’m thankful for his voice in this, as well as in a lot of other matters where he’s landed on a side some didn’t expect. The man performed at Rush Limbaugh’s wedding, for Pete’s sake.

And I’m grateful for “Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road,” my favorite song of his.

Do you have one?

Let us all know.
