BREAKING: Barr-Durham Investigation Is Now Officially a Criminal Investigation

U.S. Attorney General William Barr listens to concerns raised about public safety in rural Alaska during at a roundtable discussion at the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, in Anchorage, Alaska. Barr did not take questions from reporters in his first public appearance after former special prosecutor Robert Mueller spoke to reporters after resigning at the completion of his report into Russian interference into the 2016 election. (AP Photo/Mark Thiessen)

This is coming in the form of some hilarious spin from The New York Times, but the big news here is that my previous speculation was correct. The Barr-Durham probe into the origins of the Trump-Russia fiasco is now officially a criminal investigation.

From the link above.

WASHINGTON — For more than two years, President Trump has repeatedly attacked the Russia investigation, portraying it as a hoax and illegal even months after the special counsel closed it. Now, Mr. Trump’s own Justice Department has opened a criminal investigation into how it all began.

Justice Department officials have shifted an administrative review of the Russia investigation closely overseen by Attorney General William P. Barr to a criminal inquiry, according to two people familiar with the matter. The move gives the prosecutor running it, John H. Durham, the power to subpoena for witness testimony and documents, to impanel a grand jury and to file criminal charges.

You can just imagine the spittle flying as they typed this. They really, really don’t want this to be looked into and by shifting it to a criminal investigation, the DOJ now has full power to compel witness testimony. That’s bad news for a lot of people who have been flailing about, insisting there’s no reason they should be investigated.

Of course, instead of just sticking to the facts, the unbiased reporters at the Times described the shift in this manner.

The opening of a criminal investigation is likely to raise alarms that Mr. Trump is using the Justice Department to go after his perceived enemies.

Yes, that’s the problem here. Not that the DOJ has enough evidence to start criminally investigating people, but that it’s happening at all and some might be “alarmed.” Isn’t it weird how they had none of these reservations with the Obama administrations investigation into Trump, nor the Mueller investigation.

There’s not many more details in the article so we’ll have to wait to see what the next moves our, but a lot of people are going to be sweating a little more profusely tonight.

No matter where 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris goes, she faces an uphill battle.

Nationally, she’s polling in a distant 5th place. In Iowa, where she vowed to “f**king move” in order to win over Democrats in the crucial caucus state, her campaign is cratering.

She’s not doing any better in South Carolina, which has a large percentage of black Democratic voters, nor in New Hampshire.

But it’s her home state of California that perhaps more than any other state is showing her the writing on the wall.

Over a month ago an Emerson University survey showed her in 5th place in California behind Andrew Yang.

Unfortunately for Harris, her numbers in there among Democratic primary voters have not gotten any better over time:

Less than five months before Californians vote in the 2020 presidential primary, a new Change Research poll for KQED shows U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris losing ground to the front-runners, Sens. Elizabeth Warren from Massachusetts and Vermont’s Bernie Sanders.

The poll, taken after last week’s Democratic candidate debate, finds Warren is the top choice of 28% of primary voters, followed by Sanders at 24% and former Vice President Joe Biden at 19%.

South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg is fourth with 9% followed by Harris at 8%. The October survey puts Harris 20 percentage points behind Sen. Warren, compared with a 14 percentage point gap in our September poll.

The poll also shows Harris trailing badly among female voters and Hispanic voters:

By gender, Warren is the top choice of female voters with 31% support, followed by Sanders with 23% and Biden at 21%. Buttigieg and Harris are the choice of 8% and 7% of women respectively.
[…]
Sen. Sanders is the favorite of Latino voters with 28% support, followed by Warren and Biden (22% each), Harris (7%) and Buttigieg (6%). The only Latino candidate, former HUD Secretary Julian Castro, is the choice of just 1% of Latino voters in California.

Harris is in decent shape with black Democrats according to the poll (16%), but she still lags behind Biden (30%) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (20%).

As I’ve said before, I believe she’s sticking around at this point as an audition of sorts for vice presidential consideration, but considering she’s in bad shape across all key demographics, I’m not sure how much good she’d do in terms of the female/black vote for Biden or Sanders should they become the nominee. And the possibility of Warren picking another woman as her running mate is very low.

Of course, general elections are much different than primaries so there’s still a chance she could end up as the eventual nominee’s running mate. But as far as her chances go for the nomination itself, it’s all over but the crying at this point, especially when you consider the fact that no recent candidate for president has gone on to be their party’s nominee without winning their home state.

After weeks of getting nowhere with Schiff and Co. when it comes to being given full access to impeachment inquiry documents and transcripts from the secretive hearings and witness testimonies, dozens of House Republicans finally organized as a group this week to stop talking and start taking action.

They organized a sit-in Wednesday (complete with lunch served) in the SCIF where the witnesses have been questioned, but ultimately did not get what they wanted from Schiff.

Another Republican who took action but in a different way yesterday was Rep. Dan Crenshaw (TX), who tweeted out a video talking about the rules Schiff has made up regarding how this inquiry will be conducted. Here’s how he started out:

“Chairman Adam Schiff says that non-committee members can’t have access to all the hearings and depositions that have been happening with respect to the impeachment inquiry. Is that true?” he wondered.

Crenshaw then pointed to the House Rules and Manual for the current Congress. “Let’s check the House rules,” he stated, opening the book up to page 568 of this document.

Reading the text, Crenshaw said that “Such records shall be the property of the House and each member, meaning we can actually go look at them.”

Here’s a screen grab from the actual rule book, on page 568 (page 567 is where the rules on committee records start):

At that point, he noted he was going to go downstairs to where the records were kept to see if he would be given access to them.

Watch the video of him pointing out the relevant House rule, and to see what happens when he tries to get access:

He wasn’t allowed to film what was going on inside the secure committee room, but when he came out he stated they would’t let him see anything, saying they repeated the Schiff rule to him about non-committee members and records access.

But Crenshaw said he has spoken to committee members who have also sent letters requesting to see impeachment inquiry documents as well but have also been told no. “Where is the transparency?” Crenshaw asked rhetorically. “There’s none.”

The Democratic clown show continues.

Graham: If Republicans were using these Democratic impeachment procedures, “you’d be beating the sh*t out of us”

Westlake Legal Group g-1 Graham: If Republicans were using these Democratic impeachment procedures, “you’d be beating the sh*t out of us” Trump The Blog schiff resolution Mitch McConnell Lindsey Graham impeachment House democrats

It’s pretty clear what he and McConnell are trying to achieve with this new resolution denouncing the Dems’ impeachment inquiry, annnnnd it’s pretty clear that it’s not going to work. Not fully, at least.

The president and his inner circle want to know why his most loyal crony isn’t being as loyal as they’d like lately. Bad enough that Graham would join in the chorus attacking Trump for abandoning the Kurds, but now he won’t even use his power on the Judiciary Committee to launch investigations into the Burisma and CrowdStrike matters. What the hell are they even keeping this guy around for if he won’t counterprogram the impeachment inquiry for them?

Rand Paul’s doing some solid crony work for Trump by leaning on Graham too:

Graham’s offering this new resolution as an olive branch to the White House in lieu of holding hearings. He’s said elsewhere that he doesn’t think Burisma and CrowdStrike are within the jurisdiction of the Judiciary Committee, that they’re more properly left to the Intelligence Committee — which is probably true but unlikely to appease Trump, who cares nothing for formalities. In truth, Graham’s probably just worried about the high downside risk to him of opening those two probes. The CrowdStrike hearing will likely end up with people like Tom Bossert testifying that Trump’s a crank for believing that there’s some secret server somewhere that proves the DNC hacking was an inside job. The Burisma hearing holds more promise, but Graham may be guessing that it’s unlikely to show wrongdoing by *Joe* Biden. Certainly it can and would show that *Hunter* Biden had no business being on the board of a Ukrainian gas company, suggesting that he was named a director purely so that the company could influence the administration via Joe Biden. But absent evidence that it did influence Biden, or that the corrupt prosecutor whom Biden pressured Ukraine to fire really was intent on investigating Hunter Biden and Burisma, that hearing’s not going to deliver what Trump wants it to deliver.

And then guess who’ll be blamed. Right: Lindsey Graham, the crony who proved to be useless to Trump when it mattered. Even if Graham ends up being safely reelected to the Senate next fall, the brownie points he’s earned with the GOP base will be lost. So, unless Graham can be convinced in advance that the Burisma probe really might pay off, what incentive does he have to do it?

Instead he’ll try to placate the president with a formal Senate resolution denouncing the House impeachment process. Interestingly, he has Mitch McConnell’s support on that. Cocaine Mitch is in his own awkward spot with Trump right now, as you already know if you read this post on Tuesday. McConnell’s been critical of the president on Syria, he contradicted Trump’s claim that the two had spoken by phone about the Ukraine call, and he declined to defend Trump’s description of the House process as a “lynching.” And the media has noticed. Maybe McConnell has concluded that there’s a little too much distance between him and the president at a moment when Republican voters are demanding unity and so he decided to throw Trump a bone in the form of Graham’s resolution. It’ll buy him — and the vulnerable Senate Republicans who are on the ballot next fall — a little cheap cred with the base while they wait for impeachment to move forward, a signal that they’re still on the team for now as they mull whether to remove the president.

What’s also interesting is that McConnell must have reason to believe that 51 Republicans will support this resolution. Otherwise he wouldn’t let it come to the floor, right? It’d be a total messaging disaster for the GOP if Graham moved to denounce the House proceedings and then Romney, Murkowski, and a few others switched sides to vote with Schumer. Although, really, why would Romney et al. do that in this case? The resolution means nothing and it’s an easy opportunity to show solidarity with the party on a low-stakes vote. That’s the reason McConnell’s supporting it. Just dunk on the Democrats here and hope that satisfies Trump’s fans for a few weeks.

Lindsey knows what to say to satisfy them:

“If we were doing this, you’d be beating the sh– out of us,” Graham bluntly told a reporter at one point, accusing Democrats of selectively leaking testimony from their closed-door hearings, without affording Republicans the opportunity to subpoena or publicly cross-examine witnesses. “And, I think it says a lot about people in your business, with all due respect.”…

Graham’s resolution specifically called on the House to vote immediately to initiate a formal impeachment inquiry; and demanded that the House “provide President Trump, like every other American, with due process, to include the ability to confront his accusers, call witnesses on his behalf, and have a basic understanding of the accusations against him that would form any basis for impeachment.”…

“If we pulled this stunt, you’d be eating us alive,” Graham said at the news conference. “How many people have asked me about [diplomat] Bill Taylor’s opening statement? If we had Rudy Giuliani’s opening statement, and he said he did nothing wrong, I doubt that you would accept that. 47 Republican House members feel like it’s not working for them. They feel like [Kurt] Volker’s testimony has been selectively released, [Rep. John] Ratcliffe’s cross-examination of Taylor is not available to you. … There’s a way to do it.”

Graham also complained at this afternoon’s presser that “If you can drive down a president’s poll numbers by having proceedings where you selectively leak information, where the president who’s the subject of all this is pretty much shut out, God help future presidents.” Trump’s job approval is down a few points in the RCP average since the Ukraine story broke big but obviously everything is in flux as the inquiry proceeds. When (not if) he’s acquitted by the Senate after a public trial, he’ll likely recover fully. He may even get a bounce if the Democrats’ evidence at trial turns out to be as thin as House Republicans claim.

Here’s the list of Republican co-sponsors of Graham’s resolution as of 4:45 p.m. ET. There are 44. The nine holdouts are Alexander, Collins, Enzi, Gardner, Isakson, Murkowski, Portman, Romney, and Sullivan. Portman and Sullivan will dutifully join the sponsors but the other seven are … interesting cases, a mix of anti-Trumpers (Romney and Murkowski), incumbents facing very tough reelection bids (Collins and Gardner), and incumbents who are retiring and thus have nothing to lose by thwarting Trump (Alexander, Enzi, and Isakson). I think the last group will all join with Graham. What about the others?

Joe Biden’s Latest Ad Is Hilarious and the Responses Are Even Better

Screenshot from this video

Democratic 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden has demonstrated his propensity for gaffes and being behind the times.

As my colleague Streiff noted on Wednesday, this “behind the times” problem left them open to a great troll from the Trump team when the Biden folks neglected to register the web address for their Latino coalition outreach.

Now, Biden’s latest ad just adds to that “behind the times” perception.

When you look at it, your immediate thought may be: who told him this was a good idea?

We open to what looks like one of those old commercials where an actor who hasn’t worked in years in a dated outfit is selling insurance to the elderly. Cue Uncle Joe.

Gack. What is that?

Now we have no idea what he’s talking about, Vladimir Putin coming after him. But then, neither does he, it’s just a money pitch and word is he’s desperate. This surely shows it.

And let’s stop with this “Russia interfered in our elections” terminology. Russia was behind Facebook pages for and against Trump. And the FBI alleges they were behind the DNC server hack and John Podesta’s email phishing. But because people in media and people like Biden use that terminology, a majority of Democrats reportedly believe that votes were changed or machines were hacked by Russians. If you want to say they tried to influence people’s opinions, that would be more accurate. Should we still be condemning that and trying to prevent it? Yes. But no one except the voters “decided who the president was going to be.” And to suggest that Putin did is a dishonest fiction, pushing this “illegitimate president” theme again.

Let’s also look back to the Obama administration where Biden was the Vice-President, that administration that he has embraced as a big part of his record. The administration that was known for its “flexibility” when it came to Russia. That administration that, knowing everything that Russia was, presented them with a “reset” button (with the wrong word). That administration that allowed Russia to walk into Eastern Europe and steal Crimea from Ukraine, doing nothing in response. That administration who drew red line after red line with Russia-backed Syria and then did nothing as they continued to drop chemical weapons on their people. Indeed there may be no administration in recent history who has bent over more or been so accommodating for Putin than the Obama administration.

Can we ever forget these golden video moments?

Let’s look at the Trump administration, by contrast, since that’s the comparison Joe raised. Let’s disabuse people of this fiction that the present administration has been favorable to Russia.

The Trump administration came in and put more sanctions on Russia on top of the ones already in place, going further than Obama ever had. Here’s a great list of the dozens of Russians people and businesses subject to sanctions and actions. Trump also booted Russian diplomats out. When Syria continued to use chemical weapons, he bombed them. He gave Ukraine lethal weapons to be able to defend themselves, something the Obama administration refused to do. The administration also said they were giving Ukraine $10 million to help build their naval defense against Russia. After the Russians attacked a US base in Syria in Feb. 2018, the Trump administration didn’t set a red line, they dropped bombs on the heads of the Russians, killing hundreds. And let’s not even get into the many ways that Trump, by building up the American economy and the energy industry, stomps all over the Russian agenda. Where Obama stalled the Keystone XL pipeline (there he is being flexible again!), Trump signed executive orders fast-tracking it, for example.

We’d tell Joe to get better ad advice. But then, we’d miss out on laughing at silly things like this.

Hillary Clinton Came Up With an Insane Conspiracy Theory On How Trump Will Win 2020

I think somebody better check grandma into the old folks home because she might be losing it a bit.

During a recent interview “Campaign HQ” podcast, Clinton was discussing her second favorite punching bag, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, and was advancing the narrative that she’s being groomed by the Russians to be a third-party candidate. The host, David Plouffe, asked Hillary what she believes President Donald Trump’s campaign strategy will look like this time around in 2020.

Not content to settle looking like a slightly crazy person by suggesting Gabbard was a Russian asset, she also floated the prediction that the Trump campaign would take to the dark web and release “flashing videos” that would convince people not to vote for Democrats according to the Free Beacon:

Plouffe had asked Clinton what she thought the Trump campaign’s strategy may be. She said its strategy would consist of two parts: dark-web videos and the propping up of a third-party candidate.

The former secretary of state attributed her loss in part to voters seeing “flashing videos” of her on the “dark web” doing “horrible things.”

“I think it’s going to be the same as 2016,” Clinton said. “Don’t vote for the other guy. You don’t like me. Don’t vote for the other guy, because the other guy is going to do X, Y, and Z. Or the other guy did such terrible things. I’m going to show you in these flashing videos that appear and then disappear and they’re on the dark web and nobody can find them, but you’re going to see them and you’re going to see that person doing these horrible things.”

It sounds to me like Clinton is suggesting that the Trump campaign has and is engaging in a form of brainwashing, where they show you a flashing video that wires you to look for certain things to happen.

Just to recap, Trump will win because he brainwashes people with flashing videos, and will also receive help from Russia in the form of a Democrat.

Clinton did not elaborate on whether or not aliens from space would also play a role in the election, or if the Illuminati has anything to do with this.

The thing is, Clinton may not be all that incorrect. I put on my best black cloak, lit my lantern, and ventured deep into the dark web where I discovered a video just as Clinton described. I brought it back, and now you can watch it for yourself below.

New Poll Shows Voter Enthusiasm at a 20 Year High and It Has Democrats Nervous

Coming off the 2018 drubbing the GOP took in House races, some things started to change. Perhaps more people woke up and realized that the sham Mueller investigation was nothing more nor less than a coup attempt by parts of the FBI and Intelligence Community working as Stumabteilungen for the Democrat party. Perhaps some came to the realization that the Kavanaugh hearing was a foreshadowing of how conservative men were going to be treated in the future. Many, I think, realized that nothing would make the Democrats happier than turning us into some kind of Third World sh**hole where down was up and we had to called bearded creatures with a package “her.”

If February, a new poll was released that completely blew up the prevailing conventional wisdom about voter enthusiasm:

A new survey his company, the Tarrance Group, conducted for the centrist Republican Ripon Society uncovered an 11-point “intensity” gap among white Republicans and white Democrats.

“We had in 2010 a nine-point advantage on intensity. Going into 2014 we had a seven-point advantage on intensity, meaning our voters are more intense about voting. Right now we have an 11-point advantage,” he said. “I’ve never seen a double-digit advantage in terms of intensity to vote.”

In 2010, Republicans took control of the House. In 2014, they took over the Senate.

“Why is it 11? It’s intensity toward the president,” he explained.

A deeper plunge into the numbers, Goeas said, is even more remarkable.

For example, Republican women, who typically don’t express voting eagerness in levels as high as men, are equal for the first time, at 89 percent, he said. What’s more, on the issue of intensity, they are just three points back.

“Not only is there no gender gap, there’s no intensity gap with Republicans wanting to vote Republican this year, all driven by the president,” the strategist said.

Now a new one is out from CNN and it builds on the February poll in a way that should scare the bejeezus out of the Democrats. This is the top line. Voters today are nearly 20 points more enthusiastic about voting for president than the were in 2008 when the bloom was still on the Obama rose.

Currently 88 percent of registered voters responding to the poll in question are enthusiastic in varying degrees about voting in the 2020 presidential election; only 11 percent are not. Of the enthused super-majority, 47 percent describe themselves as extremely enthusiastic and 24 percent as very enthusiastic. Taking the “extremely” and “very” enthusiastic voters together, that’s 71 percent currently. In late October 2016, the comparable number was 46 percent (though in September 2015 it was a bit higher at 55 percent, indicating that a decent number of voters weren’t happy with the general-election options; usually enthusiasm goes up as an election approaches). At this point in the 2012 cycle, 51 percent of voters described themselves as “extremely” or “very” enthusiastic.

For me the recent benchmark of voter enthusiasm was the 2008 election that lifted Barack Obama to the presidency (I will never forget the citywide street celebration that broke out in Washington the minute he was forecast as the winner). Just before that election, 37 percent of registered voters said they were “extremely” enthusiastic about voting, with 32 percent “very” enthusiastic. That’s right: More than a year out, we’re at or above 2008 levels of voter enthusiasm. And the percentage of extremely enthusiastic folks is a lot higher.

CNN’s cross-tabs break down the enthusiasm numbers in all sorts of ways, but here’s the one that matters most: 79 percent of registered voters who give Trump a positive job-approval rating are either “extremely” (53 percent) or “very” (26 percent) enthusiastic about voting in 2020. Among registered voters who disapprove of Trump, 66 percent are “extremely” (43 percent) or “very” (23 percent) enthused. All the other cross-tabs tell a similar story: White folks are more enthusiastic about voting than nonwhite folks; old folks are more psyched than young folks; Republicans are more whipped up than Democrats.

This is how Politico frames it:

In a late-October 2016 poll, when the question was asked just before then-candidate Donald Trump’s victory, 26 percent said they were extremely enthusiastic, and 20 percent were very enthusiastic. A poll taken days ahead of the 2008 election, which had the highest turnout (as a percentage of voting-eligible population) this century, saw 37 percent say they were extremely enthusiastic, and 32 percent say they were very enthusiastic.

Digging into the crosstabs shows a slight enthusiasm gap in favor of Republicans: 76 percent of voters who lean Republican said they’re either extremely or very enthusiastic, while 69 percent of Democratic leaners answered the same. (892 registered voters; Oct. 17-20; +/- 4.0 percentage points MOE).

Another way of saying that is that the voter segments with the highest turnout rate are the most likely to vote.

I think this enthusiasm will only be more locked in by the time the election takes place. It is hard to see any outcome of the “impeachment” charade (absent a removal of President Trump) likely to dampen GOP enthusiasm. I think we’re beginning to see the Pelosi-Schiff process transform even Trump skeptics into broken glass voters. If impeachment doesn’t happen, then you will see a lot of wind go out of Democrat enthusiasm. I suspect we’ll see at least one more Supreme Court nomination before Election Day. That fight, particularly if the the battleground is over religious freedom as it will be if Amy Coney Barrett is the nominee, is going to further excite the Republican base.

Nothing in politics is sure, but right now the enthusiasm is running in our direction in numbers higher that 2010, 2014, and 2016.

After the Parkland shooting which claimed the lives of many innocent high school students and teachers, Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel sat on a stage next to radio show host and Second Amendment advocate Dana Loesch and proceed to blame her and the National Rifle Association for everything that happened on that fateful day.

The truth was later revealed that it was Israel and his department’s incompetence and failure to act on many occasions both before and while the shooting was occurring that was the real people at fault for the atrocity. He was suspended and Florida lawmakers began the long process of deciding if he should be kicked to the curb.

According to the Sun-Sentinal, the Florida Senate did just that, but it definitely wasn’t a unanimous vote. It would appear that despite Israel’s apparent blunders, Democrats wanted to keep him in office:

The 25-15 vote was mostly along party lines with Republicans, who are a majority in the Senate and loyal to the Republican governor, generally supporting removal while most Democrats voted to reinstate the Democratic sheriff. All five Broward senators voted for reinstatement, despite the wishes of Parkland parents.

“I can stand here and I can tell you how I empathize with the Parkland parents,” said Democrat Sen. Perry Thurston said. “I’m not disregarding them. None of us would.”

Thurstan added that “95% of Broward County feels differently about the attempt to remove the sheriff.” It’s unclear where he got that number.

“We are tasked between deciding about how we feel and the dangerous precedent we leave behind,” said Democrat Sen. Kevin Rader.

According to the Sun-Sentinal, the “high standard for proof for removal had not been met” according to Rader.

Democrat Sen. Gary Farmer believed that Parkland parents and Republicans were being ruled by emotion and not rationality when it came to their desire to see Israel gone.

“Because of the horrendous and ghastly nature of that event, it’s easy to be moved by the emotion and the pleas of the parents who are still grieving and who forever will be grieving for the loss of their children,” Farmer said. “We are a country founded on rule of law. We cannot base our decision on emotion.”

Israel himself also believed that reason didn’t win the day.

“Politics won,” he told the Sun-Sentinal, adding that the “process was as a sham. It was a farce.”

Dana Loesch, whom Israel used as a scapegoat while on the infamous CNN Townhall that followed the Parkland shooting, told RedState that this is a fitting outcome for Israel.

“Scott Israel thinks he’s the victim and that his job was “stolen.” The lives of 17 innocent people were what was stolen,” Loesch told RedState. “He isn’t the victim here — the people he failed to protect are the victims. It’s why the families and his own deputies stood against him. No amount of his thuggish bullying will change that and I’ll be there at his every step to call him out every single time.”

Kyle Kashuv, one of the Parkland students who survived the shooting, told RedState that this was a just end to Israel’s career, and thanked the Parkland families who did lose family members for helping bring it about.

“Thanks to the tireless work of Andrew Pollack, Ryan Petty and the Parkland families, Scott Israel finally got some semblance of the justice he deserved for his deep corruption and incompetence that enabled the tragedy at my school,” Kashuv told RedState.

Kashuv also applauded the Republicans who voted to remove Israel from office and slammed the Democrats who defended him.

“Good on those in the Florida Senate who voted for his removal, and it’s an absolute shame on those who voted against. I cannot thank Governor DeSantis enough for continuing to stand by his promises to Parkland and the Parkland families,” he added.

Israel seems to believe that he’s going to retake his office during an election in 2020, but judging by the number of people who have turned against him after the truth about the shooting came out, especially the Parkland parents and students, it’s unlikely he’ll see office again.

Squad Member Ayanna Pressley Discovers Economics and Other Adventures From the Facebook Cryptocurrency Hearing

File-This Nov. 9, 2017, file photo shows Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg meeting with a group of entrepreneurs and innovators during a round-table discussion at Cortex Innovation Community technology hub in St. Louis. Facebook is announcing its second major tweak to its algorithm this month, saying it will prioritize news based on users’ votes. The company said in a blog post and Facebook post from Zuckerberg Friday, jan. 19, 2018, that it will survey users about how familiar they are with a news source and if they trust it. Yesterday’s hearing on Capitol Hill before the House Committee on Financial Services, was supposed to focus on Libra, a cryptocurrency Facebook is trying to develop. The members had a lot of concerns and rightfully so. The monopoly on the use of deadly force and the monopoly on currency are two things which nearly define the existence of a nation. Give up either and you probably deserve what happens next. But, as happens so often in Nancy Pelosi’s House, a substantive hearing was rapidly turned into something farcical by the lackwits in the Democrat caucus.

The Squad member, Ayanna Pressley probably won the internet for the observation that cryptocurrency isn’t of much use to people with no money.

“This is not about authentication,” she told Zuckerberg. “This is not about banking costs. This is about a tsunami of hurt that millions are experiencing because of a $1.6 trillion student debt crisis, because of rising health care costs and people having to use GoFundMe pages to pay medical bills. This is because of the racial and gender wealth gap.”

Pressley, who often says the “people closest to the pain should be closest to the power,” added that Zuckerberg “represent[s] the power, but I don’t think you understand the pain.”

“There’s underbanking because people are broke,” she said.

Pressley then moved on to ask if Libra would be free to users. Zuckerberg said that was the intention of the initiative, though it is still far from being established.

“So there is no fee?” Pressley asked.

“Congresswoman, that’s the goal, is to make it so that —” Zuckerberg said, as Pressley repeated the question.

“Congresswoman, the goal is to make it —” he began.

“Moving on,” Pressley cut him off.

During her questioning of Marcus over the summer, Pressley made the point that even without fees there would be inherent costs to using Libra, such as needing a smart phone and the fact that, unlike savings accounts, the money stored on the platform would not earn interest.

“If it costs money to buy Libra and cost money to use the Libra money, I fail to see how this helps people with virtually no money,” she told Zuckerberg. “You are attempting to use technology to solve what is inherently an issue of wealth.”

Know what else isn’t of any use to you if you don’t have money? Food. Clothing. Shelter.

Maxine Waters was drumming up business for whatever race hustlers are still in the business (truth be told, I keep expecting Jesse Jackson to come out as a trans-sexual lesbian and kick off another professional shakedown organization like Rainbow-PUSH.

And Al Green got into the crazy-pants act demanding to know how many sexual deviants of various stripes Facebook employed. Zuckerberg should have just answered “a sh**load” and let it go, but then we wouldn’t have this comedy classic.

Are there any members of the LGBTQ+ community associated with this association, Mr. Zuckerberg?

Presumably white, male cryptocurrency works differently from other kinds.

There is a silver lining here. The left has convinced itself that Facebook is a conservative platform because a lot of conservative media use Facebook. The hostility Zuckerberg faced was based on this misconception that because Zuckerberg is at least trying to rein in the Social Justice Warriors that he employs that he is some kind of closeted Proud Boy or something.

Expect to see more of this in the future. Facebook is going to get more interest in Congress as the election gets closer and these assclowns are not going to get even a little bit smarter.

Breaking: Lindsey Graham and Mitch McConnell Introducing Resolution to Condemn House Dems’ ‘Impeachment Inquiry’

Republicans have finally had enough.

On Wednesday, dozens of House Republicans made their anger known and protested the closed door impeachment proceeding Democrats were conducting, holding a press conference and delaying the proceeding until they were allowed in.

Now, on Thursday, the Senate is backing up the GOP in the House.

Senate Judiciary Chair Lindsey Graham and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced that they would be introducing a resolution today to condemn the House Democrats “illegitimate impeachment inquiry.”

Like their fellows in the House, they are condemning the lack of transparency and the closed door proceedings, in addition to questioning the validity of the inquiry to begin with given that there has been no formal vote of the House in favor of such a proceeding.

From Politico:

“This is a kangaroo court and it will not stand,” Graham said this week. “I’ve got a resolution saying if you’re going to impeach the president give him the same rights that Richard Nixon had and that Bill Clinton had…what’s going on now is disgusting.” …

McConnell said he “obviously” supported the effort. His support is key because he would control whether any impeachment is basically rejected if it reaches the Senate.

Republicans and the GOP base have been very unhappy with the way the Democrats have been proceeding. Democrats have been trying to play both ends against the middle, appeasing their base by claiming they’re having an impeachment inquiry despite having no vote, while not having to put the issue or their vulnerable members in pro-Trump districts on the record in such a vote.

But in doing so, Democrats are deviating from precedent that there’s a vote before proceeding with an inquiry. If the House has the power of impeachment, as the Constitution says, then the House and only the House has that power. And the power of the House can only be shown by a formal vote, not by the pronouncement of the House Speaker or any single member of the House.

In the case of Bill Clinton, not only did you have a formal House vote for the inquiry, you had a finding by Ken Starr of 11 grounds, including perjury, obstruction of justice, witness-tampering and abuse of power which preceded it. Now you have none of that.

On Tuesday, Graham called the process Democrats had taken unconstitutional, according to the Daily Caller.

“Here’s the point of this resolution. Any impeachment vote based on this process, to me, is illegitimate, is unconstitutional, and should be dismissed in Senate without a trial,” Graham told Fox News’ “Hannity.”

The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee said the resolution “puts the Senate on record condemning the house for the future of the presidency. We cannot allow future presidents and this president to be impeached based on an inquiry in the House that’s never been voted upon that does not allow the president to confront the witness against him, to call witnesses on his behalf and cross-examine people who are accusing him of misdeeds,” Graham told Sean Hannity.

He said the process denied the president basic legal rights.

“All I’m asking is give Donald Trump the same rights as Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton had when it comes to impeachment. I’m insisting that Donald Trump be given the same rights that any American has at when you’re giving a parking ticket to confront the witnesses against you, can’t be based on hearsay … ”

This is a big signal to Democrats that their efforts are going to be dead on arrival in the Senate.

And their efforts wouldn’t just be dead there, but in the 2020 election as well unless they stop the madness.
