West Point Must Cancel its Nike Contract

First of all, full disclosure; I am a 1980 graduate of that hallowed institution known as The United States Military Academy at West Point. Being raised in an environment of Duty, Honor, Country, quite necessarily colors my opinion on this matter.

Back in 2015, THE Academy (all others are merely cheap imitations, especially that place that teaches Boat Driving) collaborated with Nike in a rebranding of what was then known as, “Army Athletics.” Part of that rebranding was changing the “Army Team” to the “Army West Point” team. Along with that came a new set of color combinations for team uniforms that I must admit, are pretty decent.

This contract even extended across sales of fan “gear,” which I spend about as much on as Fly Fishing and Golf equipment…until recently. The first thing that sparked my ire, was Nike’s full throated support for that pampered millionaire, Colin Kaepernick. Like any real American, I expressed my personal displeasure by merely refusing to purchase more Nike emblazoned gear. Well, I also modified some of the stuff I had already purchased and did not wish to throw away.

This time, Nike has stepped way over the line. It has a new poster ad out showing 7 hijab wearing Muslim female athletes with the caption, “Don’t change who you are. Change the world.” Change the World alright. As I noted in a previous article, Islam is a politico, socio, military construct, masquerading as a religion in order to establish the World-wide Caliphate. Yes. Change the World. Change it into a woman subjugating, mutilating planet governed by a theocracy that thrives on violence, want, deprivation and envy.

The United States Military Academy at West Point needs to have no truck with an organization that promotes such in its advertising. I hope my fellow members of The Long Gray Line will step up and let The Academy know that we really don’t want our beloved Alma Mater involved with such an unpatriotic organization that obviously has such little concern for women.

Watch How PolitiFact Excuses Blatant Lies Told By Barack Obama About American Gun Laws While In Brazil

Last week, former (former…former…former…I just can’t say that enough) President Barack Obama was doing something or another in Brazil that we hope did not involve wearing a Speedo and participated in a “town hall” discussion. He was asked about the most difficult moment of his presidency and he said the sacking of the US Consulate in Benghazi. Kidding. He said it was the Sandy Hook school shooting. Fair enough. But what followed next was an series of lies that would have made Goebbels blush.

“Some of you may be aware that our gun laws in the United States don’t make much sense. Anybody can buy any weapon, any time without much, if any, regulation. They buy it over the internet. They can buy machine guns.”

There is literally not a single truth in this sentence.

Anyone can’t buy any weapon. There are age restrictions, restrictions based on penal servitude and mental capacity and residency. There are restrictions on what weapons can be sold. You can’t buy a weapon over the internet without dealing with a vendor who had a federal firearms license. It is possible to buy a machinegun but very difficult and very expensive. Obama strings it in with other weapons and makes it seem like you can walk into the 7-11 at midnight, drunk, and walk out with an M-240B.

PolitiFact, the leftwing advocacy organization that tries to pretend it fact checks statements, got involved once Obama started getting a lot of flak from the right on this nonsense. They dutifully find, as I stated above that none of it is true at least in the context of the US having lax or non-existent gun laws.

Obama said that in the United States, “anybody can buy any weapon, any time without much, if any, regulation. They buy it over the internet. They can buy machine guns.”

The assertion that anybody can buy a weapon flies in the face of the many types of people, from felons to drug abusers to spouse abusers, who may not buy weapons. Internet sales are legal, as he said, and they take place under the same rules that govern other gun sales.

As for machine guns, they are strictly illegal, with the exception under legal controls of models from 1986 and earlier.

How do they rate it?

Westlake Legal Group obama-politifact-guns Watch How PolitiFact Excuses Blatant Lies Told By Barack Obama About American Gun Laws While In Brazil poltifact Politics Media Guns gun laws Front Page Stories Featured Story democrats Brazil Barack Obama Allow Media Exception 2A

WTF? I mean, WTFingF? There is nothing in that statement that is true in the context of the point that Obama was trying to make. It was simply a baldfaced lie of epic proportions. So why did they hedge it? And why did they give Trump a “Pants on Fire” rating for his opinion that the Obama White House didn’t act on Russian meddling in the 2016 electins (see Politifact Demonstrates Why It Is Incapable Of Separating Fact From Fiction)?

Because PolitiFact doesn’t care about truth or fiction or journalism. PolitiFact exists to protect Democrats and to damage Republicans. Much like most of the other alleged fact checkers plying their grift.

In one of the better feel good stories I’ve seen in a while, Fox News 4 reports that a 7 year old boy from Texas has raised $22,000.00 in support of President Trump and the Border Wall. Young Benton Stevens opened up a hot chocolate stand and used the proceeds to donate to the private, Build The Wall Fund,” run by wounded Veteran and triple amputee, Brian Kolfage. From the article

It all started with President Donald J. Trump’s State of the Union Address. Benton’s mother, Jennifer, told Fox 35 that Benton decided to start raising money for the border wall construction after President Trump said that we needed to protect our country and build a wall.

“Benton decided right then and there that he wanted to help the President build the wall,” Jennifer said.

Somebody is raising that kid right. Check out the entire article. It shows that the younger generations aren’t totally lost. Hopefully, Mom & Dad can keep him inoculated against the leftist propaganda he’s sure to be subjected to as he passes through our disordered education system.

Nicely Done Benton!

Steven Crowder Makes a Hilarious Apology Video and Vox’s Carlos Maza Re-Triggers All Over the Place

As I wrote on last week, Vox’s Carlos Maza started a campaign to get Steven Crowder banned from Youtube.

This stemmed from a rebuttal video that Crowder did on his show responding to Maza trashing conservative news outlets. You see, Maza is free to name call, use vulgarities, and go after anyone he wants, but the moment someone gives it back to him, he wants those people banished from society.

In fact, at one point Maza called for the assaulting of those he disagrees with.

This guy is not a victim. He’s a disingenuous, squirrelly guy who makes a living sliming others unfairly.

Here’s part of Maza’s original appeal to get Crowder banned.

If you’ve ever seen any of Maza’s videos, you know the above tweets are essentially a one to one representation of how annoying he is. He’s as liberal as they come, routinely skews facts, and presents things in bad faith on a consistent basis. In response, Crowder just had a little fun with the guy. That’s America. We are allowed to make fun of people (at least for now).

Maza doesn’t think so though and started interfacing with Youtube directly (because if you are a liberal, you get special treatment) to try to get Crowder’s channel banned. So far that hasn’t happened.

In response to all this, Steven Crowder released one of the funniest videos I’ve seen in years. Seriously, do yourself a favor and actually watch it. I get that when someone posts a video, most people only watch the first five seconds, but this is worth it. Trust me.

As you can see from his response, this re-triggered the heck out of Maza.

The best part of the video? Crowder apologizes to every single person of note he’s ever joked about on his show, including people like Hillary Clinton and Rachel Maddow. But there’s one lone exception: Carlos Maza. He’s never mentioned in what culminates into one of the all time greatest trolls I’ve witnessed on the internet. 20 minutes of dead pan apologies and Crowder dares Maza to start freaking out again.

Sure enough, that’s exactly what he did.

Maza is now currently trying to pressure advertisers to drop Youtube over their (current) refusal to ban Crowder. In reality, there’s no reason to ban him, as Crowder’s show meticulously follows Youtube’s community rules. Do he push the envelope? You bet he does. That’s what makes comedy funny and edgy. But he’s done nothing to justify being thrown off the platform.

Maza knows this but is pushing for it anyway because that’s what liberals do. They try to silence those that disagree with them and they certainly can’t take a joke.

We’ll see what Youtube ends up doing here. I suspect they’ll just try to ignore the situation until it blows over but if Maza’s call picks up steam, we could actually see Crowder’s show, which boasts almost 4M subscribers, taken down. If that happens, it’ll really be time to push the panic button for conservatives who have feared the censorship culture wouldn’t stop at Alex Jones.

Stay tuned.

UPDATE:

Youtube has officailly ruled against Carlo Maza and will not de-platform Steven Crowder.

Let the rustling of the jimmies begin.

PBS Abortion Documentary Features Chilling Justification by Woman Who Aborts Twins On Screen

Westlake Legal Group Untitled-1-620x364 PBS Abortion Documentary Features Chilling Justification by Woman Who Aborts Twins On Screen twins Politics pill PBS Front Page Stories Featured Story democrats Allow Media Exception Abortion

The pro-abortion crowd is reaching untold heights in how horrid it can be, and the latest PBS documentary proves it with a clip that stuns the viewer as much as it breaks their heart.

In the clip, a red-haired woman is seen talking a nurse. She’s currently pregnant with twins in the clip. As she and the nurse talk she is handed a pill which will kill the babies and initiate a miscarriage. The woman takes the pill on screen, which is you, the viewer, effectively watching as a woman kills her babies.

As this happens, the nurse describes the process, saying that after 24 hours she will take an additional pill that will then begin the cramps and bleeding that will push what she calls the “pregnancy tissue” out of her body.

The woman who swallowed the pill is then interviewed, and she gives what I can only describe as an incredibly disturbing justification for aborting her twin babies.

“What I hope I feel is a sense of peace — not only with myself and the decision I’ve made — but also a sense of peace with these two beings that I’ve chosen not to bring into the world,” says the woman.

She then speaks to the camera but addresses the babies she’s just aborted.

“Thank you for choosing me, and I’m honored to be given this gift of life, and also I can’t do it right now,” she said. “I can’t accept that mantle in terms of the other lives I’m taking care of and I’m responsible for.”

I’m not sure what’s more disturbing. The fact that we literally witness a woman nonchalantly take a pill that unceremoniously terminates two innocent lives or the fact that she thanks the babies she just aborted for choosing her and giving her a gift that she rejected out of inconvenience.

I’ve seen some weird justifications by women who aborted their children before, including a woman who claimed her baby sang her a lullaby telling her it’s okay that she aborted it. This display, however, left me far more shocked.

A Pox on Both Their Houses!

Both former Vice President Joe Biden and Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell need to be investigated for their ties to Chinese government and businesses. Yesterday’s Wall Street journal makes a great case for this. From the article

If you think investors, workers and consumers are eager for China to stop stealing intellectual property and for the U.S. to stop hiking tariffs, imagine how Joe Biden and Mitch McConnell feel. Family and business ties forged at a time of friendlier U.S.-China relations are bound to attract increasing scrutiny as both prepare to face voters in 2020. Former vice president Biden is currently the front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination, while Republican Senate Majority Leader McConnell seeks re-election in Kentucky.

The article starts with a discussion of the appearance of impropriety by President Trump’s Transportation Secretary, Elaine Chao, who it seems might have used her position as a cabinet secretary to assist family members in gaining access to officials in the Chinese government. Secretary Chao, for those of you late to the party, is married to Senator McConnell.

Later, the article talks about Hunter Biden, son of former Vice President Joe Biden. Supposedly Biden fils, was the beneficiary of a 1.5 billion dollar deal with a Chinese “investment consortium,” although his firm was very small and he wasn’t well known for his investment expertise.

Some small part of my brain had been wondering about the deafening silence on the part of Mitch McConnell regarding Biden’s son. It would appear that the question has been answered. He certainly doesn’t want that already open door to open any wider and spill more sunshine on him.

Here is what is important in this whole sordid mess. Secretary Chao was appointed by President Trump, likely in a bid to secure from McConnell, some modicum of what passes for loyalty in DC. That decision may come back to bite the President. Biden’s obvious corruption, would have been an easy Trump target should he become the Democrat standard bearer. Mrs. McConnell/Secretary Chao, even if not technically guilty of a crime, still exudes the appearance of impropriety, effectively inoculating Biden from that particular line of attack. Moreover, I wouldn’t put it past the leftists to ignore Biden’s transgressions, while attempting to “hold president Trump accountable” for his Transportation Secretary pick.

The Democrats aren’t the only ones. There are a number of us on the right, who would also like to see Trump fix this and sooner, rather than later. There could possibly be some good news on that front. McConnell is up for re-election in 2020. He may have a tough fight of it. Perhaps the President should allow Secretary Chao to resign her position for “family reasons.” (which really wouldn’t be a lie, would it?) and encourage McConnell to head to the house thus allowing Governor Bevin to anoint his replacement—And then I woke up.

Leftwing Academic Calls on Bill Barr to Investigate a Surprising Player in the Russia Hoax Scandal

Now that the popular consensus in the nation has shifted from “Trump is Putin’s tool” to “Trump didn’t want to help Mueller destroy his presidency” it is interesting to see some of the folks claim that they never ever supported the whole Russia hoax. There are a lot out there on the right. National Review’s David French, for instance, says: “I specifically say that I do not buy the collusion story peddled in left-wing media.” His byline says There Is Now Evidence That Senior Trump Officials Attempted to Collude With Russia. One expects the Vichy wing of the GOP to do such things because for all the bullsh** they spin about ‘muh principles’ there is exactly one principle they hold dear…other that checks clearing…and that is sucking up to the left for any scrap of approval they can glean.

What shows that Steele dossier is looking more and more Chernobyl-like is the fact that the left is beginning to run from it. Stephen F. Cohen, professor emeritus of Russian studies at Princeton University and New York University, who is also Mr. Katrina vanden Heuvel, definitely a lefty, and a contributor at The Nation, thinks that Bill Barr might be onto something. In fact, it is hard to imagine a more eye-popping opening paragraph:

It cannot be emphasized too often: Russiagate—allegations that the American president has been compromised by the Kremlin, which may even have helped to put him in the White House—is the worst and (considering the lack of actual evidence) most fraudulent political scandal in American history. We have yet to calculate the damage Russiagate has inflicted on America’s democratic institutions, including the presidency and the electoral process, and on domestic and foreign perceptions of American democracy, or on US-Russian relations at a critical moment when both sides, having “modernized” their nuclear weapons, are embarking on a new, more dangerous, and largely unreported arms race

Cohen lays out alternative series of scenarios to explain how the hoax came to be: It was actually collusion; it was a Russian information operation; and, it was a coup attempt.

I think that Cohen is much too facile in laying aside option two, the dezinformatsiya and refuses to attack a strawman of the argument rather than what anyone is actually saying (see my post If This New York Times Reporter Suspected The Dossier Was A Fraud Why Is He Only Reporting On It Now and the internal links). Where Cohen really gets down to business is on option three.

The third possible explanation—one I have termed “Intelgate,” and that I explore in my recent book War With Russia?: From Putin & Ukraine to Trump & Russiagate—is that US intelligence agencies undertook an operation to damage, if not destroy, first the candidacy and then the presidency of Donald Trump. More evidence of “Intelgate” has since appeared. For example, the intelligence community has said it began its investigation in April 2016 because of a few innocuous remarks by a young, lowly Trump foreign-policy adviser, George Papadopoulos. The relatively obscure Papadopoulos suddenly found himself befriended by apparently influential people he had not previously known, among them Stefan Halper, Joseph Mifsud, Alexander Downer, and a woman calling herself Azra Turk. What we now know—and what Papadopoulos did not know at the time—is that all of them had ties to US and/or UK and Western European intelligence agencies.

Then Cohen comes in for the surprising kill:

But Barr’s thorniest problem may be understanding the woeful role of mainstream media in Russiagate. As Lee Smith, who contributed important investigative reporting, has written: “The press is part of the operation, the indispensable part. None of it would have been possible…had the media not linked arms with spies, cops, and lawyers to relay a story first spun by Clinton operatives.” How does Barr explore this “indispensable” complicity of the media in originating and perpetuating the Russiagate fraud without impermissibly infringing on the freedom of the press?

Ideally, mainstream media—print and broadcast—would now themselves report on how and why they permitted intelligence officials, through leaks and anonymous sources, and as “opinion” commentators, to use their pages and programming to promote Russiagate for so long, and why they so excluded well-informed, nonpartisan alternative opinions. Instead, they have almost unanimously reported and broadcast negatively, even antagonistically, about Barr’s investigation, and indeed about Barr personally. (The Washington Post even found a way to print this: “William Barr looks like a toad…”) Such is the seeming panic of the Russiagate media over Barr’s investigation, which promises to declassify related documents, that The New York Times again trotted out its easily debunked fiction that public disclosures will endanger a purported US informant, a Kremlin mole, at Putin’s side.

This has been my position from Day One. The allegations were transparently bogus and improbable. It was a string of factoids held together by a ribbon of lies spun by the media. The media did this for ratings but also because they had sufficient animus against Trump that they were willing, time and again, to run stories that were often debunked within minutes rather than days that were damaging to Trump and his administration and they were wiling to make long term deals with intelligence leakers who had burned them before.

The media, however, is already closing ranks to try to shout down Barr’s investigation and that shows that unless Justice brings down the Wrath of God on leakers, our media lacks the discipline or introspection to repair itself.

Reliable Sources host Brian Stelter. Screen grab via CNN.

Just when you thought you’d seen it all, “Reliable Sources” host Brian Stelter went all in Sunday on the abortion debate. The CNN media firefighter essentially equated “The Handmaid’s Tale” – of which he is fan – to the fetal heartbeat bills that have been signed into law in several states like Alabama and Georgia.

Kristine Marsh at Newsbusters sets the scene:

On Sunday’s Reliable Sources, CNN host Brian Stelter welcomed Hollywood liberals from the fictional Hulu show, The Handmaid’s Tale on to fearmonger about how America was turning into their dystopian show. His guests were executive producer Warren Littlefield, and Ann Dowd, who plays a prominent character in the streaming television series.

Stelter offered high praise before letting them speak. “Now of all the TV shows, of all the movies that explore issues involving women’s rights, The Handmaid’s Tale is number one,” he gushed adding he was a fan. Turning to Dowd, he immediately drew a comparison to the abortion bans in some states, which Dowd bashed as classist and sexist.

Here’s a partial transcript:

When Stelter asked how close or how far the United States is from Gilead, Dowd and Littlefield said they believed the country is growing closer to that reality.

“We’re a heck of a lot closer than we were in season one, which is terrible,” Dowd said. The cast and crew filmed the first season during the 2016 US presidential election. “It was scary in season one, and it got more and more serious as we were shooting the pilot that ‘this is happening.’”

As an example, Dowd pointed to a series of laws restricting abortion that state legislatures have passed in recent weeks. “When I saw what was going on in Georgia, I thought, ‘This can’t be real,’” she said. “It stunned me.”

Littlefield said “The Handmaid’s Tale” isn’t scheduled to film in any of the states that passed the abortion laws. If it were, he said “I would not go near there.”

Dowd also insinuated, as so many fanatical, hysterical abortion supporters do, that pro-lifers only cared about babies up until birth, not once they are born. As I wrote this morning, that is simply not true.

Watch video of the bizarre Handmaid’s Tale segment below:

It’s so odd that Stelter would seek out comment from Dowd on this issue, considering he said this last year (h/t Doug Powers):

Also, I reached out to Stelter to ask him why he doesn’t have guests on to counter the claims made by the pro-choice community:

At the time this article was published, Stelter had not responded.

The Conservative Review’s Daniel Horowitz wrote a fascinating article comparing America’s efforts to combat the Taliban in Afghanistan to the measures we are taking to solve the current crisis at our southern border. He points out that, as of 2018, “the Taliban controlled or contested 46 percent of the districts in Afghanistan’s civil war.” In Mexico, a new government map indicates that the drug cartels control an even greater proportion of the country. Thus, Horowitz suggests the idea of approaching the immigration crisis as we would a military crisis.

He discusses a map, prepared by the government of Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), which shows just how powerful the drug cartels in the country have become. According to the map:

80 percent of the country’s 266 districts recently targeted for enforcement by the Mexican National Guard in a new counter-cartel operation are either controlled (57.5 percent) or disputed (23.3 percent) by the cartels. “Only 53 (19.92 percent) enjoy a low level of violence, which means that control is exercised by the authorities,” reported Contralínea on May 4, citing the data on the color-coded map.

Horowitz believes “Mexico looks awfully similar to Afghanistan in terms of how much is controlled by insurgent groups. The map of Mexico shows the districts in red fully controlled by the cartels, the ones in yellow in dispute, and the ones in green in control of the Mexican government. They all represent priority enforcement areas for a new Mexican National Guard operation against the cartels proposed by the AMLO regime.”

He asks, “What if you were told that 80 percent of Mexico’s territory is controlled by dangerous cartels, including all of the key smuggling routes at our border, and that the cartels are orchestrating all of the illegal immigration into our territory and bringing their members back and forth across our own border?”

Retired captain of Texas’ Department of Public Safety Intelligence and Counterterrorism Division Jaeson Jones explains that “the priority areas color-coded on the map are mainly the areas where people live, and the ones left out are simply not a priority, not because the cartels don’t control most of those areas, but because there is little infrastructure or population in those areas.”

For example, the areas color-coded at the border are all the cities where people live, such as Tijuana, Mexicali, San Luis, Nogales, Juarez, Piedras Negras, Loredo, Miguel Alimen, and Reynosa (going west to east). And notice how every one of them is controlled by the cartels. All of the major smuggling areas leaning into California, Nogales, Arizona, El Paso, Texas, and the Rio Grande Valley of Texas are fully controlled by the cartels. The other areas are deserts with few people and no infrastructure, so they weren’t a priority for the Mexican government’s campaign, but they still affect our security because the cartels are sending large flows of migrants in areas like Antelope Wells, New Mexico, which are absolutely controlled by Sinaloa.

Horowitz’ point is that the drug cartels in Mexico control a greater portion of the country than do the Taliban in Afghanistan. And if the U.S. is willing to devote such vast resources to combat terrorism in a country so far away from us, why don’t we treat the problem in Mexico in the same way?

The government of Mexico has little influence over the drug cartels which have become organized, sophisticated and powerful.

They are international organizations that are engaged in endless criminality, most prominently human smuggling, but they seek to control territory and terrorize populations as well. Mexican drug cartels seek to replace local governments by imposing their own law. The Mexican cartel culture is similar to the ideology of ISIS and al Qaeda in the sense that they seek “to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) or to effect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping,” which is the definition of international terrorism defined under 18 U.S.C. § 2331.

Several months ago, Reps. Chip Roy (R-TX) and Mark Green (R-TN) proposed that the Mexican cartels be designated as terrorist organizations. If President Trump were to take such a course of action, Horowitz says that it “would open up new resources to target the cartels and to treat all of our border policies in a much different light than simply a domestic immigration problem. Yet the State Department continues to balk.” He argues:

So why do we not have Special Operations Command engaged in protecting our border from the cartels? Unlike the Taliban, cartel operatives come over our border all the time. Why do the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Defense, and the State Department refuse to recognize the border issue as a military problem and agree to target the cartels as terrorists?

If the Taliban were orchestrating a flow of mass migration across parts of Afghani-controlled territory, strategically shutting down our security, and profiting from it, we would instantly take military action. When Mexican cartels are placing our own country in mortal danger, why is that not reason enough to treat this is a military threat instead of an immigration issue?

What is amazing is that Border Patrol and the National Guard are ordered not to engage the cartels and armed smugglers at all and cannot nab any of them even a few feet over our border for concern of violating Mexico’s sovereignty. We won’t even fight back when they detain and disarm our regular military units on our own side of the river. Yet, we now see that the Mexican government itself admits it has no sovereignty over that area. Why should we allow our sovereignty to be trampled by cartel figures going back and forth with impunity when fighting them won’t even violate Mexican sovereignty and will actually help it?

I agree with Horowitz. The situation has deteriorated so significantly and continues to worsen by the month. Although this is an excellent idea, Democrats would certainly oppose it for the very same reasons they’ve opposed all of President Trump’s proposed remedies. The border crisis benefits their party. For them, the more illegals, the better.

Perhaps, if Trump wins reelection, and the Democrats are handed an unmitigated defeat in 2020, Republicans will find themselves back in the driver’s seat. Hopefully, Democrats will frighten voters away with their sharp left turn. If not, then America will have an existential problem.

State Rep. Avery Bourne (R) speaks on the Illinois House floor in protest of a sweeping abortion rights expansion bill – 5/28/19. Screen grab via the IL House GOP.

State Rep. Avery Bourne (R) spoke on the Illinois House floor last week about an expansive abortion bill that, once signed into law, will be one of the most extreme in America.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports:

For about 45 minutes, Bourne questioned [bill sponsor and Democratic Rep. Kelly] Cassidy on everything from the meaning of a “fundamental right” to parental notification to what an “extraordinary medical measure” is.

Bourne offered examples, such as whether a baby at 36-weeks could be terminated if an ultrasound shows a “hole in their heart.” She also described whether a sick baby being flown to a neo-natal intensive care unit would be considered an “extraordinary medical measure.”

“This broadens their ability to make that decision,” Bourne said.

[…]

“We are talking about the most expansive bill we have seen in this state,” Bourne said in tears, surrounded by her female Republican colleagues. “We already know that we’ve got women coming to Illinois to have abortions because we are so expansive on this issue. That will continue. This bill is not about keeping abortion legal in Illinois. This is about a massive expansion that will impact viable babies. And that is wrong.”

Bourne, who is pregnant, also noted that the bill did not define the meaning of a woman’s “familial health” which she said is a broad term that could mean literally anything:

Bourne said that in failing to provide a specific definition of “familial health,” the bill’s authors open the door for that phrase to be interpreted in the broadest senses possible.

“This bill will mean that for a woman at my stage in pregnancy, where a baby responds to his dad’s voice when he reads him books at night, the woman could go to the facility—the baby’s perfectly healthy—but if that woman says, ‘based on my familial health, this is medically necessary,’ that is allowed,” Bourne said.

Because of the bill’s wide range of permission for abortion, many women are coming to Illinois specifically to receive abortions, Bourne added. Following the bill’s passage, she argued, Illinois would not only have the “most expansive” allowances for abortion in its state history but also “one of the most expansive across the country.”

Watch Bourne’s powerful speech below:

Since Bourne has given her speech, the Illinois State Senate passed the bill as well. It now goes to Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D), who is expected to sign it.
