Déjà Vu? Why Have 15 House Republicans Announced Their Retirements?

Westlake Legal Group house-of-representatives Déjà Vu? Why Have 15 House Republicans Announced Their Retirements? Rush Limbaugh republicans President Trump House of Representatives House Majority 2020 Front Page Stories Featured Story elections donald trump democrats Congress Campaigns Allow Media Exception 2020

Over the August recess, eight House Republicans announced their retirements bringing the total number of Republican incumbents choosing not to seek reelection to 15. This group includes GOP Reps. Bill Flores (TX),  Susan Brooks (IN), Jim Sensenbrenner (WI), Will Hurd (R-TX), Kenny Marchant (TX), Sean Duffy (WI) and John Shimkus (IL), Rob Bishop (UT), Martha Roby (AL), Paul Mitchell (MI), Pete Olson (TX), Bradley Byrne (AL), Greg Gianforte (MT), Rob Woodall (GA) and Mike Conaway (TX). (Two are seeking higher office.)

To put this into perspective, only four Democratic incumbents have announced they will not run in 2020.

Five of the fifteen retirees are from Texas, which have some calling the trend “Texodus.”

This is shaping up to be frighteningly similar to the situation in 2018 when 34 House Republicans chose not to run for reelection compared to only eight Democrats. The result was that ten of these seats flipped from Republican to Democrat while only three seats flipped from Democrat to Republican.

Republican concern over this alarming trend is not misplaced as it depresses GOP hopes of winning back the House majority. What’s causing so many Republicans to run for the exit?

There are a few who may be looking at a tough fight in 2020, and have chosen to retire instead. That may be the case for Rep. Hurd and several others.

However, most of them occupy safe, conservative seats.

As members of the minority party, there’s no doubt they feel frustrated and irrelevant. And if they believe Democrats will retain power in 2020, they’ve simply chosen to avoid another two years of the same.

Former Rep. Carlos Curbelo (R-FL), who lost his bid for reelection in 2018, believes that is the case for some of these lawmakers. He told The Hill, “The most likely outcome is a status-quo election for the House. And that certainly influences people’s decision [to retire], whether they think they can regain the majority or not. For sure, some of those members who retired, [staying in the minority] was a factor in their thinking.”

Julian Zelizer, an expert in congressional history at Princeton University, spoke to The Hill as well. “I don’t think Republicans envision flipping the House in the near future and being in the minority is not fun. Some are also tired of having to defend the party, not just in the era of Trump but in the era of the Tea Party. So the incentives increase to do something else.”

Another former House Republican, Tom Davis (R-VA), said that is one factor, but hardly the only one. He told The Hill that “the GOP base has shifted, creating new power centers that are forcing once-comfortable lawmakers to have to hustle a little bit.”

He added that because lawmakers have not received a pay raise in over ten years, it may be a question of finances. Should I stay here and earn $174,000 or go into the private sector and command a far more lucrative income?

But what Davis sees as the most significant factor are the “changing electoral patterns” brought on by the rise of the populist movement that propelled Trump to the White House…The overall atmosphere in Washington is not very pleasant. This is a global phenomenon caused by the rapidity of change, the instant communications, the rising expectations of those people who are unhappy with the change, who don’t see [government] helping fast enough and who feel their status threatened.”

Other pundits speculate that Republicans are tired of defending Trump. Is Trump himself the reason for the large number of departures?

Curbelo believes Trump was a big part of why he lost. He said, “Trump is a big part of it. Something Trump has done is take away Republicans’ ability to have their own identity, so you’re asked to compete every two years, and your record and your work have little to do with how people are going to vote. That has frustrated a lot of members as well. My work, my record was not really a relevant factor in 2018.”

I don’t buy Curbelo’s argument. There is such a thing as personal responsibility.

Neither does Rep. Bill Flores (R-TX) who recently announced he won’t seek reelection. Flores, 65, said he never intended to have a long career in Congress. He said, “I’m optimistic about opportunities for [the GOP] in 2020. When you boil down all the noise, you come up with a couple of key issues: Are people better off than they were four years ago? Most people would say yes. And do we want to go socialist? Most people would say no.”

Rush Limbaugh discussed possible reasons for the high number of House retirements on his radio show last week.

Pundits have told him the reason is that these lawmakers are being “term limited out of their committee chairmanships, and they don’t want to go back to just being regular members of the House. Once you become a committee chairman, you can’t go back to being a regular bencher.” I would argue that the same is true for Democrats.

He disagrees with those who blame the exodus on Trump as well.

Limbaugh brought up a theory that I disagree with, although I’ve been wrong before. Up front, he told his listeners that he has no evidence for this, “because this is just a supposition,” but thinks it’s possible “based on how I have seen Democrats and their operatives act.” He told his audience:

Nobody, no human being is clean and pure as the wind-driven snow.

We’ve all got something in our closets. We’ve all done something that we don’t want people to know about. I think the Democrats are finding dirt, and they’re going to these Republicans, and they’re saying, “Do you want people to know about this? We are glad to publicize this about you.” “Oh, no, no. No, no! Please don’t.” “Well, okay. Then you gotta retire.” Now, I can’t prove it, but some of this stuff — and some of it may be legitimate. I mean, people retiring after ten years, they may think it’s enough. It’s five terms.

But it’s a lot of power to be giving up. But it just seems to be that these retirements are predominantly Republican, and it’s all happening under the radar. You hear about another retirement here, retirement there. They never add up in your mind. They’re all indiscriminate, little isolated stories — and what’s odd? Nothing’s odd about somebody retiring from Congress. But it seems there’s an exorbitant number of Republicans doing so, and I just have my suspicions about it. That’s all.

He also believes that Democrats have been making inroads at “super-local levels.” He points to Democrats transforming North Carolina and Texas starting at the local level. There’s no denying that these states are no longer solid red.

A caller spoke about the recent scandal involving the Republican Speaker of the Texas State House, Dennis Bonnen, who many consider to be a RINO. Bonnen is said to be a powerful politician in Texas. The story begins with a meeting between Bonnen and one of his top lieutenants, and a conservative activist named Michael Quinn Sullivan in early June. According to the Dallas News:

Sullivan alleges, Bonnen offered writers for his website, Texas Scorecard, media credentials in exchange for refraining from criticizing the legislative session and targeting a group of 10 Republican incumbents. That allegation, which Bonnen denies, has led to political turmoil, a Texas Rangers investigation and a lawsuit.

The caller said, “He [Bonnen] didn’t want ’em back in office because they were attacking him, or they were calling him out as a RINO. Well, there were several other Republicans that knew about it and were going along with this. This has been a huge issue down here. Huge.”

Rush replied that type of thing is going on in other places too, then shifted back to his original argument.

What I really think is going is that a lot of this is being done as opposition research, dirty tricks, what have you, by Democrats, who are hell-bent on taking back Texas or converting Texas to their column. And, you know, the Democrats… Keep one thing in mind. After Obama was elected… People forget this. Barack Obama was a Death Star for the Democrat Party. After his two presidential elections, the Democrat Party lost over 1,000 seats total. Not just in the Congress, of course, but we’re talking statehouse, state senate, governorship, any number of offices. He was just horrible.

Of course, the Drive-Bys didn’t talk about any of this. I remember James Carville. After Trump won in 2016, James Carville was running around complaining that the Democrat Party had never, ever in his lifetime had so little electoral power. Well, my contention is that they’re doing what they can to bring it back at this super local level where they lost it with the election of Obama. Look, the Republicans can play the game, too, and they may well be. I just don’t know. You just don’t hear about a lot of Democrat retirements. But we will keep a sharp eye on this.

Whatever the reason for the high number of Republican retirements, the GOP would be wise to direct their attention to it immediately. Although retirements don’t necessarily mean losing the seats, it’s certainly a sign that Republicans need to work a little harder in the next year if they hope to win back the House majority. It’s an uphill battle and victory will require a large commitment of money and time. But there are fourteen months between now and the election. It will be challenging, but hardly impossible.

Additionally, their task may become far easier once DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz and Prosecutor John Durham release their reports.

Screen grab via CNN.

We are now several days into the Sharpiegate/Hurricane Dorian/Alabama controversy and neither CNN nor Trump are backing down over the issue of whether or not Alabama was ever under threat from Hurricane Dorian.

The media outlet has steadily maintained that Alabama was never at risk to be impacted by Dorian (“He falsely claimed that Hurricane Dorian was likely to hit Alabama.”). Trump said initially it was, although at the time he said it the threat was on the lower end of the scale.

The latest rhetorical salvo came from Trump on Friday, when he tweeted out a humorous video showing that in spite of CNN’s claim that Dorian was never expected to hit the state, CNN weather forecasters themselves initially predicted Dorian could impact Alabama:

President Trump tweeting a doctored CNN clip showing a meteorologist saying Alabama was at risk of getting hit by Hurricane Dorian as he continued to lambast media coverage of his assertion the state was in the path of the storm.

Trump tweeted a video showing a CNN meteorologist explaining that the Carolinas, Georgia, Florida, Louisiana and Alabama were at risk, editing the video so the reporter says “Alabama” 10 times back-to-back.

The video then shows a CNN logo going down a road in lieu of a car only to drive off the street and explode.

Watch:

Here’s another video clip which, towards the end, shows the same CNN segment showing a forecaster saying Alabama was in the storm’s path:

The White House has spent several days trying to counter the narratives from national news outlets like CNN, including DHS issuing this clarifying statement:

There was also this tweet from the Alabama National Guard from Friday the 30th, which clearly shows the state believed they were at one time under threat:

In response to the video Trump tweeted Friday, his critics asserted that the CNN segment where Don Lemon and the weather forecaster were discussing Dorian’s potential impacts was from 3 or 4 days before Trump made his original claim about Alabama, but the critics are as usual completely missing the point. According to NOAA, at the time Trump referred to Alabama as under threat from Dorian, it still was:

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration backed up President Trump’s ongoing assertions that Alabama appeared initially to be in the path of Hurricane Dorian.

“From Wednesday, August 28, through Monday, September 2, the information provided by NOAA and the National Hurricane Center to President Trump and the wider public demonstrated that tropical-storm-force winds from Hurricane Dorian could impact Alabama,” a NOAA spokesman said in a statement Friday evening. “This is clearly demonstrated in Hurricane Advisories #15 through #41, which can be viewed at the following link.”

NOAA’s statement also directly refuted a tweet from the Birmingham National Weather Service that had contradicted Mr. Trump. “The Birmingham National Weather Service’s Sunday morning tweet spoke in absolute terms that were inconsistent with probabilities from the best forecast products available at the time,” the statement read.

Here’s a screen grab from the NOAA link showing how Alabama faced potential impacts from Dorian:

Pete Buttigieg Tells Bernie to Hold His Beer On Abortion

Pete Buttigieg by DonkeyHotey, licensed under CC BY-SA 2.0/Original

Pete Buttigieg is lecturing Christians again.

This time he’s battering scripture by claiming that God doesn’t consider a baby in the womb a life until it takes its first breath. This comes on the heels of Bernie Sanders saying he supports taxpayer funded foreign abortions to cull the population in order to fight climate change. Depravity knows no limits within the Democrat part. We are just a few weeks away from Kamala Harris questioning whether toddlers really have a right to life at this point.

Here’s Buttigieg’s comments.

Buttigieg’s reasoning for holding such a sick, ridiculous, and unscientific view? The Bible of course, because he’s the authority on all matters of Christianity these days.

Specifically, he references the scripture that speaks of God breathing life into man that can be found in Genesis 2. Of course, this is a completely out of context, cherry picked example that ignores everything else about that passage and subsequent verses. At that moment, God was not breathing life into a already living, growing human being. He was literally forming Adam from nothing in his image and then flipping on the light switch so to speak. What Buttigieg references was an event that created human life to then perpetuate through reproduction.

There is no question that an unborn baby is alive, human, and a separate being. It does not magically turn into a person the moment it takes a breath outside the womb. Anyone arguing that is pushing anti-factual garbage. Further, getting back to Buttigieg’s religious claims, the Bible makes it crystal clear that children in the womb are people.

Buttigieg would go on to lie about abortion restrictions as well, claiming that most Americans believe there should be none. In reality, around 80% of the country support bans on abortion in the third trimester and a majority support banning them after the 1st trimester. More people support banning all abortions than complete, unfettered abortion.

Call me old fashioned, but Buttigieg is playing with fire here. As the Book of James warns, those that teach evil while couching it as the word of God will be judged most harshly. This kind of twisting of scripture is just sick. It’s the kind of thing you’d expect a racist from the 1800s to do to support slavery, except in this case it’s a major Democratic candidate stumping for killing children until they take their first breath. Logically, that would mean you could kill a child after leaving the birth canal. It’s insane and murderous.

Buttigieg isn’t going to be the nominee, but he’s certainly exposed himself as someone in desperate need of truth. I pray he he turns from this course he’s on.

The popular fast food chicken chain Chick-fil-A opened their first Toronto location today to long lines of excited customers and a crowd of unhinged protesters.

Fox News reports:

The grand opening of Chick-fil-A’s first international location in Toronto was met by a grand protest Friday by LGBTQ activists, who argued that the chicken-centric chain owner’s historically antigay policies will clash with the culture of Canada’s largest city.

Protestors caused a commotion as soon as the restaurant opened its doors at 10:30 a.m., chanting “shame” and “cluck you,” CBC News reports.

“Hey hey, ho ho, Homophobia’s got to go,” activists can be heard shouting in video shared to Twitter by BlogTo.

[…]

Fans of the fried chicken chain, meanwhile, were said to have lined up as early as 6:30 a.m. to await the grand opening, CTV News Toronto reports.

Global Toronto’s Mark Carcasole was on the scene to report on the story and posted photos and videos of what took place:

Some of the protesters even staged a ‘die-in’:

But as this short video from “blogTO” shows, customers ignored those laying on the ground and stepped over them to get into the restaurant (watch towards the end):

Heh.

Video from Carcasole also confirmed that the protests did not stop customers from stopping by to enjoy some delicious chicken sandwiches and waffle fries:

It just goes to show you that in Canada, just like here in the United States, cravings for good food and spectacular service will not be denied.

Breitbart Claims A Progressive Scalp and Reason, Predictably, Draws the Wrongest Possible Conclusion

So Breitbart has taken a leftist scalp.

They discovered tweets by Dr. Jamie R. Riley, University of Alabama’s assistant vice president and dean of students, that show [shocked face::gasp] that a leftwing university educrat holds doctrinaire woke leftwing beliefs.

In my opinion, people holding that kind of philosophy should not be allowed within a thousand or so miles of any educational institution because his callous, privileged bigotry is going to be evident any time he has to deal with a white student or a conflict between a black student and a student of any other race or when he has to interact with campus police, particularly when either the cop or the student is white and the other isn’t. That said, there is nothing terribly exotic about his point of view in progressive circles. The New York Times has hired opinion writers with much worse on their Twitter timeline .

But, for whatever reason, Breitbart hit the sweet spot here and within 24-hours an embedded educrat was able to devote more time to fine tuning his bigotry

Jackson Fuentes, press secretary for the UA Student Government Association, confirmed at 4:15 p.m. that Riley is no longer working at the University.

“For us right now, basically all I can tell you is that the University and Dr. Riley have mutually agreed to part ways,” Fuentes said. “So yeah, that’s true, and we do wish him the best.”

In an email at 5:03 p.m., assistant director of the Division of Strategic Communications Chris Bryant released an official statement on behalf of the University confirming Riley’s resignation.

“Dr. Jamie Riley has resigned his position at The University of Alabama by mutual agreement,” Bryant said in the email. “Neither party will have any further comments.”

Robbie Soave at Reason takes it from there:

Many pundits on the right constantly inveigh against cancel culture: the drive to shame, punish, and ultimately destroy people for having said something trivially offensive at some point. Comedian Dave Chapelle torched cancel culture in his recent Netflix special, and conservatives applauded. The clip of Chapelle scornfully imitating cancellers has been all over right-leaning media for the last two weeks.

I very much agree that cancel culture is bad. (In fact, it’s one of the main themes of my book.) But as long as the right is perfectly willing to enforce its own version of political correctness, it is difficult to to believe that they really agree in principle that you shouldn’t do this kind of thing. If you only defend the cancelled when you agree with them, then you’re not actually against cancelling. You’re just protecting your tribe.

Conservatives, please condemn Breitbart for this hit job and demand the immediate reinstatement of James Riley.

Ummm, no. Not just no thanks, but no f***ing thanks at all.

In this case, you can even–without having a “first class mind”–easily hold, in the words of F. Scott Fitzgerald, these two opposing thoughts.

On the one hand, we should all deplore the “cancel culture.” It is corrosive of civil society and it forces you to limit social contacts to people who are pretty like-minded because you have to be attuned to the fact that there is no such thing as a progressive who will not burn you down if you say an unguarded word. On a personal level, I’ve slowly removed from my social circle anyone whose politics I distrust because the risk of being around them is simply too great.

Then we need only to look at the saga of Leif Olson where a major center-left outlet fabricated stuff to get a guy they didn’t like fired to understand the utter righteousness of Breitbart’s action.

Soave presents us with a false dichotomy. We can either actively work against a outlet that is (mostly) an ally to try to get a rabid, frothing leftist bigot reinstated. Or we’re hypocrites. That’s simply bullsh**.

The real issue is more analogous to the standoff between the US (that would be us) and the USSR (that would be their fellow travelers who masquerade as Americans today). The US was beset throughout the Cold War with people who claimed we should engage in unilateral nuclear disarmament because that would show the we really had no ill intent. I mean, if we didn’t intend to use nukes on the USSR then we really didn’t need several thousand of them, did we? (Bizarrely enough, you hear the same cretins and their philosophical descendants making the same argument about why the DPRK should not be expected to give up its nukes.) Under Reagan we were scolded that if we build better nukes (the neutron bomb) and developed SDI then we would be hypocrites. It didn’t take a genius to see that a) building nukes and SDI was necessary for our survival and b) holding them did not compromise our principles.

We have a situation where the left and their fluffers in the media hunt through the history of conservative and GOP figures and find anything they can to take them out. This is demonstrated best by the dynamic of MMFA and CNN’s Andrew Kaczynski aka @KFile. So long as this kind of thing is permitted and rewarded, then we on the right have a very binary choice to make. We either unilaterally disarm and follow the lead of the “muh principles” gang, or we fight fire with fire.

To make matters worse, we have people who don’t really have our best interests at heart lecturing us on how we’re violating our principles by defending ourselves.

Sorry, that dog ain’t going to hunt. We’re wise to that game. A couple of years ago a writer going by the nom de guerre Warden at Ace of Spades laid it out perfectly:

There’s a frustrating game that the left plays with conservatives. It’s an Alinksy tactic called, “Make them live up to their values.” Now, living up to one’s values isn’t a bad thing, but setting high standards ultimately means that you’ll sometimes fall short.

The left loves to exploit these shortcomings–every Christian who falls short of perfection is a hypocrite; the social values candidate you voted for just got arrested for drunk driving. Haha, everything you believe and advocate is now discredited.

It’s this that sent me to a place from which I’ll never return. I literally don’t care what Donald Trump does because nothing he can do is worse than what they’ve already done.

Donald Trump isn’t the bully; he only insults and abuses people in power who have attacked him. They’re the fucking bullies. The left, with their smears, their witch hunts, their slanders, their insults, their riots, their violence, and their weaponizing of the federal bureaucracy.

There aren’t any rules anymore because the left only applies them one way. And in doing so, they’ve left what once was a civil compact between the two parties in smoldering ruins.

I have no personal investment in Donald Trump. He is a tool to punish the left and roll back their ill-gotten gains, no more and no less. If he succeeds even partially in those two things, then I’ll consider his election a win.

Further, I no longer have any investment in any particular political values, save one: The rules created by the left will be applied to the left as equally and punitively as they have applied them to the right. And when they beg for mercy, I’ll begin to reconsider. Or maybe not. Because fuck these people.

This new philosophy has freed me of more emotional angst that I can describe. Literally nothing the left says or does matters to me anymore. I don’t care about their tantrums. I don’t care about their accusations. I don’t care if they say Trump is lying. I don’t care if Trump is lying.

They created this Frankenstein. They own it. I am free of all obligation. I will never play defense again. I will attack, attack, attack, attack using their own tactics against them until they learn their lesson.

What I will not do is let them play my values against me ever again. I don’t need to prove that I’m better than them. I already know it.

So no, we’re not going to criticize Breitbart on this. No, we’re not going to demand that this Riley character be reinstated. No, we’re not going to defend figures on the left from suffering the same consequences anyone on the right would suffer under similar circumstances. Yes, we are going to do whatever we can to burn down anyone on the left who looks even vaguely vulnerable. And when y’all get tired of this tit-for-tat bullsh**, let us know and we can talk about next steps, but for right now it is strictly #NewRules, baby.

I’ll be the first to admit I haven’t followed Sharpiegate too closely, because it just comes off as yet another tiresome example of a media-driven “scandal” of sorts that really wasn’t.

But regardless of who said what first, or who infamously expanded the Hurricane Dorian forecast cone on the weather map with a Sharpie marker, the Trump campaign has come up with a creative way to capitalize on the controversy: With their own version of a Sharpie marker.

Politico reports:

Donald Trump’s reelection campaign has added a Trump-branded permanent marker to its web store, capitalizing on the Sharpie-gate drama and expanding the campaign’s culture war offerings that already include stick-it-to-the-liberals plastic straws.

The marker, announced on Twitter this morning by campaign manager Brad Parscale, is the latest effort by the campaign to amplify and then commodify what could have been a relatively minor controversy.

“Buy the official Trump marker, which is different than every other marker on the market, because this one has the special ability to drive @CNN and the rest of the fake news crazy!” Parscale tweeted.

Here’s what it looks like:

As the Politico story noted, and as Sarah Lee wrote back in July, the campaign is also selling environmentally friendly “Trump straws”, which look like this:

The campaign has also trolled Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) with a “Pencil-Neck Adam Schiff Tee”:

And then there was the “Fredo Unhinged” tee, which was sold in the aftermath of CNN “Prime Time” anchor Chris Cuomo’s unhinged meltdown in response to a critic who called him “Fredo” at a New York City bar last month:

Like Cocaine Mitch’s reelection campaign team, the Trump campaign’s troll game is strong.

Think Progress Shuts Down After Failing to Secure a New Investor

The long-hemorrhaging publication has now ceased to progress forward.

In another announcement of a demise in the digital publishing realm the left-leaning outlet Think Progress is being decommissioned. Recent details were that the site, mired in debt, was being shopped around for new buyers. The announcement was made today that without any financial suitors successfully pinned down that the remaining staff would be released with severance, with some reallocated.

Think Progress was directly affiliated with the Democrat Party through the Center for American Progress. That the party-affiliated program would not be able (or willing) to sustain a foundering news outlet is telling. In the age of Donald Trump there should have been ample material to fuel a left-wing news outlet that had once been pledged to take down GOP opponents. Adding to the challenges was the staff deciding to unionize a few years back.

While long-established as a separate entity from CAP Think Progress has always existed under the umbrella of the organization. This year there had begun to be found visible signs that the Democrat think tank was distancing itself from the site. First came the news of the financial challenges faced by the site, something that would not be circulating had CAP been willing to underwrite the debts.

Another indicator of the deepening problems was this spring when Bernie Sanders erupted in direct conflict with the CAP over the editorial criticism he was receiving from Think Progress. This led to the presidential candidate leveling accusations of CAP about its donors dictating editorial content. CAP President Neera Tanden ended up making comments distancing Think Progress from the group. Making this all the more intriguing — Sanders’ campaign manager is a former editor-in-chief of Think Progress. His foreign policy advisor is also a TP veteran.

These events only seemed to illustrate the disposable nature of TP in the eyes of the Center for American Progress. The outfit was formed by John Podesta during the Clinton administration, and it remains a voice within the Democrat party. For the CAP to not see a viable reason to underwrite Think Progress stands in defiance of much that we hear from the media regarding President Trump.

If there was such an outcry of grassroots opposition then there should be enough of a hunger for the type of content offered by Think Progress. Further, not only does its demise show a lack of true audience desire but so does the fact that a major party outlet saw no intrinsic value in the site as we are on the brink of a major general election.

A news outlet that could guide The Resistance today, and be used as a serious news organ in an election cycle, being cast aside in this fashion spells out far more than the challenges being seen in the digital news evolution.

Pat Sajak Crushes Conservative Blacklisting, Outrage Culture, and the Absurdity of the ‘Look at Me’ Generation

Outrage over people’s differing beliefs, it seems to me, is completely ridiculous.

Therefore, I appreciate Pat Sajak’s recent tweet — along with his general resume of dry-humor posts mocking the goofiness of many bullhorning themselves into a tizzy.

On Thursday, Pat took to the Twittersphere to lampoon blacklisting not too unlike that of a couple stars from Will & Grace.

Here’s the recent source material, courtesy of Debra Messing and Eric McCormack:

And Pat for the win:

If you’re not following the television icon on social media, it’s worth the add for his wry commentary on the absurdity of this present state.

Concerning his hotdog issues, sports columnist Woody Paige joined in. Pat was there for the alley-oop:

As pointed out by The Daily Wire, the Wheel of Fortune host had a particularly profound revelation in August:

Pat’s not the only one, by the way, who believes a conservative blacklist is bonkers — just see these reactions by Seinfeld star John O’Hurley and Oscar/Grammy/Tony/Emmy winner Whoopi Goldberg.

And for more of Pat Sajak’s spot-on humor, see my roundup here.

Enjoy.

DNC Tells Huge Lie About the Odessa Shootings Just To Fire Up Their Base

Over the last day we’ve learned how Seth Aaron Ator, the Odessa-Midland shooter, obtained his weapon.

There was a lot of early confusion because it looked like, based on publicly available court records, that Ator had a couple of misdemeanor convictions which were handled by probation. These should not have kept Ator from buying a weapon. Om Monday, though, Texas governor Greg Abbott tweeted:

This indicated that either Abbott had bad information or there was something out there that had been overlooked. Two days later it was revealed that a court had adjudicated Ator as mentally deficient and that he’d failed a background check when he attempted to buy a firearm in 2014. This got the juices flowing at CNN where James Comey’s minime, Josh Campbell, breathlessly reported that the weapon had been bought in a “private sale” that allowed him to evade a background check.

Way to go guys, burning down what little remains of your credibility retweeting a story by a shill who couldn’t pick Truth out of a two-man line up.

The reason CNN and its fellow travelers were going after the private sale story so heavily was that it dovetailed very nicely with the campaign to outlaw, for all intents and purposes, private gun sales. If the guy failed a background check and still bought a firearm, well that was the “gunshow loophole” personified.

As it turned out, the shooter bought his weapon from someone who apparently was making and selling them illegally.

Betsy Vaughn breaks the whole story down here.

A great narrative shot down. Nope. Not if you’re the DNC and willing to say literally anything to push an agenda.

Putting aside the obvious lie that background checks will hurt the NRA’s bottom line (the NRA doesn’t sell weapons) and the nonsense “weapon of war” meme, universal background checks would have done nothing to prevent the shooting. If you are illegally making weapons the odds of you being deterred from selling one based on the buyer having failed a background check approaches zero.

Get used to this.

The Democrats are shut out of the White House and their stranglehold on large parts of the Judiciary is under siege. If they don’t win in 2020, their cause of destroying this nation will be set back by decades. They are desperate to win and the will say or do anything they think they have to do in order to make that happen.
