As my colleague streiff covered a few days ago, rumors of Rep. Ilhan Omar having an affair with a married man were essentially confirmed. In a divorce filing, the Tim Mynett’s ex-wife revealed that her then husband had confessed the affair to her back in April. This was before Omar left her current husband, Ahmed Hirsi. The filing also shows that Omar is lying about the affair given the dates in question.

Oddly enough, CNN and MSNBC have both not reported on the story. Just an honest oversight, I’m sure. But CNN did manage to find time to white knight for her yesterday after the Alabama GOP called for her expulsion from Congress. The two biggest newspapers in the country are also ignoring the story, something they’d never do if this were even a local Republican official.

There’s a lot more to the story though and details are starting to emerge. One of the more striking aspects is that Omar may have flaunted campaign finance law to funnel money to her lover’s company, either to help enrich him, to keep him around, or both. As Joe Gabriel Simpson says above, almost one third of Omar’s campaign funds have gone to Mynett’s company for “consulting” and “travel expenses,” which coincidentally paid for Mynett to be present with Omar to carry out the affair.

The excessive travel is mentioned by Mynett’s ex-wife in the divorce filings as well.

Overall, over $200,000 was spent in less than a year with Mynett’s company via Omar’s campaign coffers. Almost all that money was spent after the primary and in a general election race that was D+36. In other words, the “consulting” costs simply don’t add up. Further, she’s paid Mynett’s company $160,000 in 2019, an off election year where there’s usually very little spending by Congressional campaigns. The idea that she needed to spend that much cash with a single man during that specific time period for legitimate reasons is highly improbable. Oh yeah, and she was having an affair with him. Come on.

The next question is whether this is illegal and a new complaint to the FEC alleges it was.

Report via the Daily Caller. To reiterate, all the mainstream, liberal outlets are blacking out this story.

Rep. Ilhan Omar violated campaign finance law by using campaign funds to pursue an affair with married Democratic consultant Tim Mynett, according to a complaint filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) Wednesday.

Omar’s campaign has disbursed $223,000 to Tim Mynett’s company, E. Street Group, LLC, from August 2018 through June 2019, mostly for fundraising consulting, FEC records show. But on April 1, her campaign began making payments to E. Street Group for “travel expenses.”

Less than a week later, on April 7, Tim Mynett confessed to his wife that he was “romantically involved with and in love with” Omar, according to a divorce filing Tuesday by Dr. Beth Jordan Mynett.

Beth Mynett said in her filing that her husband’s “more recent travel and long work hours now appear to be more related to his affair with Rep. Omar than with his actual work commitments.”

Keep in mind that Omar has been caught using campaign funds for personal use before. She was found to be in violation of campaign finance law in Minnesota and had to pay a fine not too long ago. It looks like her flaunting of the law didn’t end with state elections or federal immigration statutes.

The timing of the Omar campaign’s travel reimbursements to E. Street Group coinciding with the start of Omar’s alleged affair with Tim Mynett is suspect, according to an FEC complaint filed Wednesday by the conservative National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC).

“If Ilhan for Congress reimbursed Mynett’s LLC for travel so that Rep. Omar would have the benefit of Mynett’s romantic companionship, the expenditures must be considered personal in nature,” NLPC said in its complaint.

The NLPC noted that FEC regulations prohibit the use of campaign funds for personal travel unless the candidate’s personal funds are used to reimburse their campaign.

“Rep. Omar’s filings do not reveal subsequent reimbursements for Mynett’s travel,” the NLPC stated.

Omar also failed to designate the expenditures as being for the primary or general election, which is a violation of FEC rules.

Perhaps she has the receipts to cover all this up and hand wave it away? That’s not out of the realm of possibility. The FEC needs to be looking hard at this though if they want to maintain any credibility. Regardless, what we are seeing here is just brazen. Having an affair with a consultant while he’s using campaign funds to fly to Omar to carry out the deed? It’s pretty incredible stuff and it’s the kind of thing that would be a blockbuster story if she weren’t an inter-sectional icon on the left. A kid smirked at a guy? National news. Ilhan Omar carries out an affair with someone she was paying with campaign funds? Not a peep. The mainstream media are either too dishonest or too fearful to even touch what is clearly a major revelation that deserves more digging.

Tucker Carlson Gives Kirsten Gillibrand an Appropriate Send-Off After She Dropped Out of the 2020 Race

Westlake Legal Group 97cfe63d-796a-4f0c-bce7-30cb37968a8f-620x317 Tucker Carlson Gives Kirsten Gillibrand an Appropriate Send-Off After She Dropped Out of the 2020 Race Tucker Carlson primary Politics Kirsten Gillibrand Front Page Stories fox news Featured Story elections democrats Allow Media Exception 2020

New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand has dropped out of the 2020 Democratic primary race and all of her fan is devastated.

Don’t worry, though, because Tucker Carlson isn’t going to let her go without an appropriate send-off. On Wednesday night, during his show “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on Fox News, Carlson let Gillibrand have it with both barrels.

Calling her a “pampered hypocrite with no scruples,” Carlson reminded everyone about how Gillibrand was friends with people society now considers villains, such as Bill Clinton and Harvey Weinstein, until they weren’t useful anymore, and lurched hard to the left after having moderate stances in the name of obtaining power.

Carlson also covered how Gillibrand is “happy to lecture you about your failings and your privilege.”

Carlson then played a supercut of Gillibrands greatest (worst) moments, including telling a mother at a town hall that her son has white privilege, and no matter how bad her son has it, a black person’s life will always be worse.

“Self-righteous, dumb, yeah that’s par for the course here in Washington, but the last clip shows where Gillibrand stands apart,” said Carlson. “That was Gillibrand, the United States senator, lecturing a mother in Youngstown, Ohio … She was saying that no matter how much Washington abandons her and her entire region to unemployment and drug addiction and suicide and diabetes, actually that woman should be ashamed of her white privilege. That’s Kirsten Gillibrand in one clip. Really, the worst candidate ever. Good riddance, Kirsten Gillibrand.”

Carlson even had a guest on to talk about Gillibrand’s exist, and laid it on Gillibrand even more.

“I sympathize with candidates when they get out,” Carlson said. “But with Kirsten Gillibrand it can’t come a moment too soon. I can’t think of someone more false, nastier, crueler, more self-centered, dumber, can you?”

Carlson isn’t altogether wrong. Gillibrand’s entire presence in the 2020 field has been a mistake since the beginning. Her time on the debate stage is marked with moments where she was obliterated by her fellow Democrats in between completely forgettable moments. In fact, I can’t recall one specific policy position she took in the hours of Democratic debates we’ve already been subjected to.

The most notable moment was when former VP Joe Biden raked her over the coals after she attempted to attack him on his record with women. A record she once praised until it became convenient to attack him.

By the end of it all, even Gillibrand’s own former staffers and donors were suggesting she drop out, calling her presence in the 2020 field “obnoxious.”

(READ: Kirsten Gillibrand’s Own Friends And Ex-Staffers Turn Their Backs On Her, Call Her “Obnoxious”)

And she was indeed obnoxious. Gillibrand’s attempts at seeming down to Earth and “like folks” always came off forced and far from genuine, just like Clinton in 2016.

If I was a Democrat, I’d be only too happy to see her gone from the Primary. She was an embarrassment.

While O’Donnell Retraction Wasn’t A Knockout Blow To The Mainstream Media, It Delivered A Humiliating Kick In The Groin

Westlake Legal Group MSNBCLogo While O’Donnell Retraction Wasn’t A Knockout Blow To The Mainstream Media, It Delivered A Humiliating Kick In The Groin Rachel Maddow President Trump Mainstream Media Liberal Elitism leaks Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. journalism Holman Jenkins Front Page Stories Featured Story donald trump democrats dean baquet Conspiracy to destroy President Trump Allow Media Exception Abuse of Power 2020

On Tuesday night, MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell told his viewers that President Trump’s Deutsche Bank loans had been co-signed by Russian oligarchs and that Trump’s tax returns showed he paid little or no income taxes. He had learned this information from “a source.” Further, O’Donnell said, “If true, that would be a significant factor in Vladimir Putin’s publicly stated preference for presidential candidate Donald Trump over presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.”

On Wednesday, it was learned that O’Donnell’s single source had not actually viewed the loan documents.

MSNBC producer Michael Del Moro tweeted that O’Donnell’s reporting had come “from a single source who has not yet seen the bank records. NBC has not seen those records and has not yet been able to verify the reporting.”

So, why then, if his single source had not even viewed the loan documents, did O’Donnell report it?

On Wednesday morning, President Trump’s attorney sent a brutal letter to NBC Universal’s top brass (which can be viewed here) demanding that both O’Donnell and NBCU “immediately and prominently retract, correct and apologize for the aforementioned false and defamatory statements.”

O’Donnell quickly retracted his statement and promised to address the issue on his show that evening.

He wrote:

Last night I made an error in judgment by reporting an item about the president’s finances that didn’t go through our rigorous verification and standards process. I shouldn’t have reported it and I was wrong to discuss it on the air. I will address the issue on my show tonight.

Does MSNBC even have a rigorous verification and standards process?

Nevertheless, he issued an apology on his program which can be viewed in the video below.

There were two problems with his statement.

First, he said, “I should not have said it on air or posted it on twitter. I was wrong to do so.” However, O’Donnell’s original tweet in which he reports the unvetted information remains up on his twitter page. If he shouldn’t have posted it, why didn’t he delete it?

Additionally, he failed to say the information was inaccurate. He concluded his apology by saying, “We don’t know whether the information is inaccurate, but the fact is, we do know it wasn’t ready for broadcast and, for that, I apologize.” So, he still leaves the story “out there.”

Consider how many times pundits and politicians have reported unvetted rumors as news for which they were not called out?

Rachel Maddow did this on a nightly basis for nearly three years. Multiply her contribution by thousands of reporters, talk-show hosts, columnists and Democratic politicians and we begin to understand how the Russian collusion story was kept alive for so long.

How many times did Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) appear on CNN claiming he had solid evidence that Trump colluded with Russians? Now that this narrative has been debunked, we should ask him to provide the material he based his statements on.

Trump’s immediate action to O’Donnell’s smear must serve as a watershed in the fight against the mainstream media. It should be used as a “road map” for handling future political attacks.

  1. Identify the smear.
  2. Demand evidence.
  3. Threaten legal action.
  4. Extract apology and retraction.
  5. Witness perpetrator’s humiliation.

O’Donnell’s humiliation won’t long be forgotten. It will be right up there with Rathergate, when CBS’s Dan Rather presented documents that criticized President George W. Bush’s service in the Texas Air National Guard. Several of those documents turned out to have been forged.

If we needed additional confirmation of how the left promotes a narrative, New York Times‘ Executive Editor Dean Baquet provided it when the leaked transcript of his staff address was released. He essentially told his employees, ‘Okay troops, now we’re going to pivot from the phony Russian collusion story to the Trump is a racist story. Oh, and we’re also going to rewrite US history.’

The Wall Street Journal’s Holman Jenkins, Jr. wrote a column about Baquet’s debacle and the mainstream media’s role as the “propaganda arm” of the Democratic Party. He wrote:

The Times sees its job as imposing a “narrative” (a word he used repeatedly) on the world rather than listening to what the world teaches. After the Russia collusion fiasco, you might think an order of business would be finding out how our politics came to be so roiled by fabricated allegations. All too plainly, Mr. Baquet seemed to suggest that the Times, having failed to deliver the Russia story its readers wanted, must now deliver the Trump racism story they want. “Our readers who want Donald Trump to go away suddenly thought, ‘Holy [bleep], Bob Mueller is not going to do it.’ ”

Is Mr. Trump a racist? I don’t know. Are you? What I do know, and what’s apparent to everyone, is the existence of powerful incentives in American life to level such charges, indeed a delight in doing so.

The O’Donnell and Banquet stories have handed a win to conservatives. And while neither supplied a knockout blow to the mainstream media, each certainly delivered a humiliating kick in the groin.

No, America, Homeland Security Is Not Keeping Kids Of Our Troops From Becoming Citizens Despite What the Media Reported

Bureaucracies are strange animals. The staff and management, even communications professionals who should know better, often get so myopic and blindered and down in the weeds that they forget that they are talking to a nation that doesn’t understand the subject matter as well as they do, and, if they are talking to reporters they may be talking to people who are incapable of understanding much of anything. Toss that in with OrangeManBad and you have a perfect storm of stupidity like the one that erupted today.

It all started innocently enough.

This kind of thing happens everyday across the federal government. Policy manuals change. New regulations take effect. And the agencies just dump them out on social media. What made this one different was this:

The update also rescinds previous guidance for children of some government employees and military members stationed outside the United States.

When you have a change in citizenship regulations by the Trump administration which has made noises about attempting to end birthright citizenship, it didn’t take a genius to see what was going to happen.

Nearly immediately you had a panic created and abetted by profoundly stupid people who rushed to post garbage without bothering to consult anyone in the agency or even an immigration attorney. This was probably the worst offender–Task and Purpose usually is on anything to do with the military–it is sort of like having militant atheists write about Christianity in terms of its integrity and understanding.

Gabe Malor at HotAir, who is an actual attorney specializing in immigration law, caught what I think was a bad faith lede nearly immediately

But he couldn’t stem the tide of dumbass.

Absolutely none of what is in any of those comments is true.

What the regulation does is change procedures for children adopted by servicemembers or persons working overseas. What it does NOT do is place any extra burden on Americans citizens who happen to have a kid while living abroad. The agency responded.

Statement Regarding a Policy Update Defining “Residence” in Statutory Provisions Related to Citizenship
Today, Acting USCIS Director Ken Cuccinelli issued the following statement regarding a policy update Defining “Residence” in Statutory Provisions Related to Citizenship.

“This policy update does not affect who is born a U.S. citizen, period. This only affects children who were born outside the United States and were not U.S. citizens. This does NOT impact birthright citizenship. This policy update does not deny citizenship to the children of US government employees or members of the military born abroad. This policy aligns USCIS’ process with the Department of State’s procedure, that’s it.”

And corrections started to be made.

There are two salient points here.

First, the bad faith reporting by the national media is beyond anything I’ve ever witnessed. If we take the example of Fusion Ken, NBC News has actual subject matter experts on staff who could have explained what the change meant. Delanian chose just to fire off his analysis because it fit the narrative that he has been pushing for three years. There was literally no excuse for any of the outlets who ran with this story to do so but they did, and some, like Politico, are sticking with their original story (note they stealth updated it with Cuccinelli’s statement) because it is harmful to the administration USCIS changes automatic citizenship for children of overseas service members:

While the new policy does not change eligibility for citizenship, it makes the process more cumbersome and raises that possibility that some applicants could be denied, advocates said.

“It’s creating a bureaucratic maze for people to attain citizenship,“ said Tyler Moran, director of the Immigration Hub, a pro-immigration group.

According to the memo, “children residing abroad with their U.S. citizen parents who are U.S. government employees or members of the U.S. armed forces stationed abroad are not considered to be residing in the United States for acquisition of citizenship.“

Some Democrats swiftly criticized the change, saying it would harm members of the military who Trump purports to lift up.

“This Trump Administration policy is a slap in the face to American troops and diplomats serving our country overseas,” tweeted Rep. Dan Kildee (D-Mich.). “It’s cruel, unpatriotic and wrong.“

Again, none of this is true. The only children affected are foreign children adopted by US parents while the US parents are residing abroad for an extended time. So basically, it has no effect.

Second, Ken Cuccinelli was ill-served by his professional staff and his communications shop should be horsewhipped then summarily fired. There is no excuse for any comms shop releasing something with this potential for blowing up without a plain English explainer. The original release is nothing but gobbledygook unless you are immersed in the minutiae of immigration policy. If you are a lackwit reporter who hates Trump, all you heard was the starting buzzer to the Moron Derby. They should have known better.

But, the bottom line is that the children of at least one American parent born overseas will still be American citizens at birth, automatically. And there are no hoops for the parents to jump through today that were not there yesterday.

I’m not really sure what is going on at the Washington Post. Given their roach problem, you might be able to write it off to staff huffing Raid from inside dry cleaning bags. If one were really a dewy-eyed idealist, one might be under the illusion that the Washington Post’s management and staff see the damage the New York Times is doing to journalism and are trying to right a very rickety, leaky, and overloaded tub in the middle of a Class-4 hurricane. After all, how often do you hear an executive editor admit that he hired and structured his paper to try to push a conspiracy theory and, now that that’s failed, he is going to retool again to push the narrative that the president is a racist. That’s not stuff they teach in Journalism 101..or maybe it is.

A couple of days ago, the New York Times pushed out a story about a small cadre of GOP operatives doing to reporters what reporters have been doing to random forklift operators who make memes and grandmothers who organize pro-Trump rallies: publicly humiliate them. Rather than getting sympathy, the NYT was widely mocked and nowhere was the mocking more brutal than by the Washington Post’s media critic Erik Wemple

This is how the Washington Post’s media critic treated it Breitbart burned the New York Times. And the Times really doesn’t like it.

They are bad actors. They are driven to suppress legitimate inquiry. They are by no means journalists.

And they read Twitter very carefully!

Those are the contours of an alarm rung on Sunday by the New York Times. “A loose network of conservative operatives allied with the White House is pursuing what they say will be an aggressive operation to discredit news organizations deemed hostile to President Trump by publicizing damaging information about journalists,” wrote Kenneth P. Vogel and Jeremy W. Peters.

And just what would this “damaging information” be? Illicitly obtained DMs? Gossip about their sexual habits? HIPAA-protected information?

Nope. “Four people familiar with the operation described how it works, asserting that it has compiled dossiers of potentially embarrassing social media posts and other public statements by hundreds of people who work at some of the country’s most prominent news organizations.” Bolding added to note that this “damaging information” is available not only to a “loose network of conservative operatives” but also to the loose network of everyone with access to the Internet.

Today his attention was turned to the spectacle of CNN hiring soon to be indicted liar Andrew McCabe as a political commentator.

This is the set up. Monday, Republican operative Matt Schlapp was on Fredo’s show. Fredo was doing his best to try to get Schlapp to admit that Trump lies on occasion…just keep this in mind whenever someone says Trump lies:

Fredo gets on his moral high horse in a way that is only possible for a nepotism hire who thinks nothing about dropping the f-bomb and threatening strangers in front of his own kids.

CUOMO: I’m saying I don’t like the White House lying to the American people, makes it very hard … to talk about policy.

Then Matt Schlapp slaps his smug face over the right field wall

SCHLAPP: Chris, I don’t like … I don’t like it when Andrew McCabe lied, either. And so, I don’t think that we should —

CUOMO: But he’s not my President. … He’s not my president. And he was punished.

[…]

SCHLAPP: He’s getting rewarded, too.

CUOMO: Oh, why? Because he works at CNN?

SCHLAPP: Well I’m just saying, look, you shouldn’t get on your high horse about who’s lying and not lying.

It was like Fredo had went on a night time fishing expedition

Today, Erik Wemple is back at flinging truth bombs at the media establishment with CNN glimpses its future with Andrew McCabe. It is grim.

Conservative commentators on CNN will likely copy Schlapp’s polemical handiwork, because it is 100 percent legitimate…

[The facts of McCabe’s lies] would undergird any indictment against McCabe. To understand their implications for CNN’s decision to hire the former FBI official, consider the network’s calling card in the age of Trump. It’s all about truth and the facts. Trump abuses them; CNN upholds them. “He lies all the time,” said host Chris Cuomo in a March segment. “Trump’s lies are getting bolder and the press is stuck in the middle,” reads the headline on a July article by Brian Stelter, whose “Reliable Sources” show has returned again and again to the topic of the president’s mendacity. CNN recently hired fact-checking superstar Daniel Dale, who specializes in quick and definitive Trump-debunkings.

Four years of truth-squadding Trump, you might suppose, would vest CNN with a firm aversion to hiring people with credibility problems. Apparently not, however. We asked CNN if those who hired McCabe reviewed the inspector general’s report, among other inquiries. The network didn’t provide an on-the-record response.

This month, Fox News announced the hiring of former White House press secretary Sarah Sanders as a contributor, despite her lies from the White House lectern. In a Sunday segment on “Reliable Sources,” Stelter asked guest commentator Irin Carmon whether critics were correct to equate these two cable-news moves. “Of course there’s a difference,” responded Carmon. “Andrew McCabe is going to bring serious expertise with respect to the FBI and investigations. And he in no way was accused of standing in front of the American people and lying to them. He was accused of lack of candor in talking about talking to the press.” As standards go, this one is a doozy: McCabe merely lied to his colleagues about a matter of great public interest, so it’s fine that CNN hired him.

Wemple is correct. For a network that that has been at the forefront of pushing every anti-Trump story imaginable, some true but mostly false, the hiring of a guy who lied to his boss and then blamed his subordinates for his own act as an authority on anything is just grotesque. The only thing that would make this more entertaining would be to have Don Lemon wipe a viscous wad of smegma on McCabe upper lip on camera.

Just days after reports that former staffers were urging Kirsten Gillibrand to end her presidential campaign, the Senator officially dropped out of the race earlier today via a video posted to Twitter:

Her announcement came just over four hours after a tweet asking for enough donations to keep her in the running to qualify for the next round of Democratic presidential debates, which are scheduled for next month.

Evidently she didn’t make the cut.

Gillibrand told the New York Times she did plan on endorsing another candidate during the primary, but wouldn’t say who:

Gillibrand said in an exclusive interview with The New York Times that she plans to endorse another candidate in the primary but has yet to pick which one. She stopped short of saying she would pick another woman in the race.

“I think that women have a unique ability to bring people together and heal this country,” she said. “I think a woman nominee would be inspiring and exciting.”

President Trump wasted no time trolling the Democratic party and fellow New Yorker Gillibrand over the announcement not even an hour after she made it official:

In spite of her hard left turn on the Democratic party’s signature issues like abortion on demand, the most memorable moments from Gillibrand’s presidential campaign were those that painted her in a less than flattering light.

Frontrunner Joe Biden made Gillibrand look very small at the last Democratic debate when she tried to use a decades-old article written by him to suggest he didn’t want women to work outside of the home. Watch:

Then there was the woman who became Internet famous during a Gillibrand campaign stop in February after walking past the candidate, saying she just wanted to get some ranch dressing:

Gillibrand never broke out of the below-1% range in polling for the entirety of her candidacy, which she partially blamed on the stance she took in calling on Sen. Al Franken (D) to resign in the midst of a #MeToo scandal in December 2017.

Next up on the drop out list: NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio?

The Outrage Mob Eats NYT’s Shorts Again: the Paper Caves and Re-Characterizes the Tea Party as Even More Villainous

Westlake Legal Group tea-556777_1280-620x413 The Outrage Mob Eats NYT’s Shorts Again: the Paper Caves and Re-Characterizes the Tea Party as Even More Villainous Uncategorized The New York Times tea party racism Politics Media Front Page Stories Featured Story democrats Culture Cory Booker Conservatives Barack Obama Allow Media Exception

Well, here’s something bizarre.

On Wednesday, The New York Times published an article characterizing the Tea Party as having “unleashed the politics of anger” that lives on in this pres(id)ent darkness.

The piece was titled “The Tea Party Didn’t Get What It Wanted, but It Did Unleash the Politics of Anger.”

But some left-wing readers didn’t appreciate it — how could the Times address the Tea Party without portraying it as sufficiently villainous?

In response, the New York mainstay assured its audience of a revision which now “[included] context about attacks on President Barack Obama and racist displays at some Tea Party rallies.”

All of you who were upset, be made exceedingly glad:

TiGGyZTweetZ presumably felt better yet was still disgusted:

But that’s just ol’ TiGGyZTweetZ for ya.

At its inception, the Tea Party was, of course, a call to more limited government.

Here’s how The New York Times portrayed it:

In the late summer of 2009, as the recession-ravaged economy bled half a million jobs a month, the country seemed to lose its mind.

Lawmakers accustomed to scheduling town hall meetings where no one would show up suddenly faced shouting crowds of hundreds, some of whom brought a holstered pistol or a rifle slung over the shoulder. One demonstrator at a rally in Maryland hanged a member of Congress in effigy. A popular bumper sticker at the time captured the contempt for the federal bailout of certain homeowners. “Honk if I’m Paying Your Mortgage,” it said.

That was part of the original with which people weren’t satisfied.

Enjoy the additions:

One significant limitation to the Tea Party is the contradiction in its DNA: It was a mass uprising based on notions of small-government libertarianism that are popular with think tanks but not so popular with most Americans. And as Mr. Obama’s allies saw the movement, its outrage over the debt and deficit had another purpose: giving cover and a voice to those who wanted to attack the first black president — people who in some cases showed up at rallies waving signs with racist caricatures and references.

This isn’t the NTY’s first correction based on outrage from the Left. Witness Cory Farticus Booker’s early-August condemnation, which in part resulted in an about face:

August, indeed.

Larry O’Donnell Claims Russian Oligarchs Co-Signed Trump’s Deutsche Bank Loans; There’s Only One Problem MAJOR UPDATE: O’Donnell Retracts

Westlake Legal Group odonnell Larry O’Donnell Claims Russian Oligarchs Co-Signed Trump’s Deutsche Bank Loans; There’s Only One Problem MAJOR UPDATE: O’Donnell Retracts Vladimir Putin Trump's Deutsche Bank Loans Russian Oligarchs Rachel Maddow progressives President Trump Popular Culture MSNBC Mainstream Media Liberal Elitism Lawrence O'Donnell Front Page Stories Featured Story Ed Morrissey donald trump democrats Allow Media Exception 2020

On Tuesday, MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell reported a source had informed him that the co-signers on Trump’s Deutsche Bank loans were Russian oligarchs. (Video below.)

As MSNBC host Rachel Maddow was turning the airwaves over to O’Donnell, he said, “This single source close to Deutsche Bank has told me that the Trump — Donald Trump’s loan documents there show that he has co-signers. That’s how he was able to obtain those loans. And that the co-signers are Russian oligarchs.” He added that his source also told him the co-signers were “Russian billionaires close to Vladimir Putin.”

Maddow’s ears immediately perked up. “What? Really?”

As if he had just made an incredible discovery, he said, “That would explain, it seems to me, every kind word Donald Trump has ever said about Russia and Vladimir Putin, if true, and I stress the ‘if true’ part of this.”

O’Donnell claimed his source had also said that Trump “pays little to no income tax in some years.”

If true,” O’Donnell said, “that would be a significant factor in Vladimir Putin’s publicly stated preference for presidential candidate Donald Trump over presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.”

Hot Air’s Ed Morrissey said, “If true … it might be the first time such a thing has happened on MSNBC concerning Trump and Russia.”

Given the source, the conservative blogosphere is not taking O’Donnell’s claims too seriously.

It is true, however, that Deutsche Bank has Trump’s tax returns. Democratic House leaders have been after Trump’s returns for a while now and an appellate court is currently deliberating on whether or not to allow Congress access to them.

Morrissey points out that Deutsche Bank has Russian problems of their own right now and suggested that maybe O’Donnell has this backwards.

According to the Washington Post:

Deutsche Bank had repeatedly failed to secure work with a Russian government entity when it was approached with a proposal: Hire the daughter of a high-ranking official at the organization.

“We must do it!” a senior Deutsche Bank official said, according to the Securities and Exchange Commission. “We should have her in London as it is NOT politically correct to have her in Moscow!”

The woman was hired with a promise of a permanent position in London, according to allegations detailed in an SEC settlement agreement. Ten days after the move was complete, the new employee’s father sent Deutsche Bank a request for a proposal on a bond deal worth more than $2 billion, a deal the bank ultimately won.

The SEC order outlines numerous alleged violations by the bank of the 1977 Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, saying the bank provided jobs to relatives of foreign government officials in an attempt to influence the officials to steer business to the bank. Deutsche Bank agreed to settle the SEC’s allegations late last week by paying $16 million, though it did not admit wrongdoing.

As it turns out, O’Donnell spoke way too soon. An MSNBC producer, Michael Del Moro, tweeted earlier that O’Donnell’s reporting had come “from a single source who has not yet seen the bank records. NBC has not seen those records and has not yet been able to verify the reporting.”

So, why then, if his single source had not even viewed the loan documents, did O’Donnell report it? That’s a rhetorical question. I guess for the same reasons he reported that Trump had colluded with the Russians for nearly three years.

AOC Is Back and We’re All Going to Die

Westlake Legal Group media.townhall-2-4-620x317 AOC Is Back and We’re All Going to Die Politics Instagram Global Warming glaciers Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story Drought DOOM disease democrats Crazy Climate Change Certifiable AOC Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

I wrote last week about the mysterious absence of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from Twitter and what it said about her. Her sudden muteness seemed to coincide directly with the “reassigning” of her Chief of Staff, who had long been speculated to be the “brains” behind her and the other Justice Democrats. He’s the one who started the movement from the ground up and he’s the one who was directly controlling all of AOC’s communications.

Without him, she suddenly went dark, only further feeding rumors that she relied heavily on Saikat Chakrabarti to deliver her whit and snark.

Well, she’s back and she’s basically confirming those rumors to be true if her performance is any measure.

Diseases being released from glaciers. What the…?

She then goes on to rant more about climate change, asserting that every coastal city is going to be underwater, not in hundreds of years, but soon. As if she’s reading from some kind of Biblical prophecy, she then predicts droughts and the human race dying out.

She bases all of this on absolutely nothing substantive, but if she really believes it, maybe leaving New York would be prudent. It is a coastal city after all, and by her telling, it’ll be under water in the near future.

This woman is certifiable. None of this is normal. The only thing that keeps me from just laughing at this and moving on is that people with these views are actually gaining ground right now, not losing it. AOC is an elected member of Congress. She’s not just some rando on Instagram. That’s a pretty disconcerting reality. We are less than a decade from her likely running for president.

Unlike the Obamas and many other liberal elites though, I actually think she believes what she’s saying. This is her cult and she’s all in. Her level of anxiety about the doomsday predictions she’s spouting probably require some form of therapy at this point. I almost feel sorry for her.

Johnny Isakson Will Resign From the Senate and Stacey Abrams Will Not Run

Citing health reasons–he just had surgery to remove a growth on a kidney–Georgia Senator Johnny Isakson announced that he would retire from the Senate at the end of this year.

Isakson’s term does not expire until 2022 but, because there is an election in 2020, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp appointed replacement will only serve until a new election is held.

I’m not a follower of Georgia politics but the shock to me was this:

I would have thought Ms.-I-wuz-robbed would have killed people to take a shot at proving her electoral might in a fairly open race.

This is something that the GOP didn’t really need in what could be a tough year for the GOP Senate caucus. David Perdue is up for reelection this year and Isaakson’s resignation puts both of Georgia’s senate seats in play next November. The Democrats think they smell blood in the water. Three Democrats are already vying to opposes Perdue and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution speculates that the top contenders are Rev. Raphael Warnock, the pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church; Jon Ossoff, a former candidate for Georgia’s 6th Congressional District; Jason Carter, the runner-up for governor in 2014; and Michelle Nunn, who was defeated by David Perdue in the 2014 Senate race.
