Liberal Tears Flow After Fraudster Michael Avenatti Calls a Senator a “Fraud” and Demands Ben Shapiro Debate Him

Liberal icon and media hero (but I repeat myself) Michael Avenatti is having a no good, very bad, horrible week.

On Monday, porn star Stormy Daniels’s former lawyer weighed in on Twitter about the upcoming Maine Senate race between incumbent Sen. Susan Collins (R) and her newly-announced Democratic challenger Sara Gideon (D). Here’s what the disgraced lawyer had to say:

Gideon has tweeted out a list of endorsements she has received so far, but for some strange reason Avenatti’s endorsement is not noted on the list.

In any event, after Avenatti called Collins a “fraud” – presumably over her vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court – NRSC adviser Matt Whitlock slid into the comments section of the tweet to point out the pot, kettle, black nature of Avenatti’s accusation (via Twitchy):

Whitlock, in fact, absolutely roasted Avenatti over and over again:

Unfortunately for Avenatti (but fortunately for us), things only got worse for him the next day.

On Tuesday afternoon, he tweeted this question about “The View”‘s Meghan McCain after she pushed back on AOC’s absurd claim that border detention facilities are like Nazi concentration camps:

As you can imagine, it did not go well. Avenatti took particular issue with Ben Shapiro’s criticism, and challenged him to a debate:

The responses were hilarious:

As Hot Air‘s John Sexton documented here, the two went back and forth for a bit afterwards but it’s not clear whether or not an actual debate will take place.

My personal view is that Shapiro should not waste his valuable time. For reasons Whitlock outlined and more, Avenatti is not worth it. He’s a dishonest blowhard, an exploiter of women, and a fraud who will say and do anything for attention, fame, and money – even and especially at the expense of the truth.

The next two days will be yuge for the 20+ Democrats who are running for president as the first round of pre-primary debates will be held tonight and tomorrow night in Miami.

Red State‘s Bonchie wrote earlier this week about how Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) made it clear that votes on proposed legislation would not be delayed in spite of the fact that several Senators will be on the presidential debate stage. Per The Hill:

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Tuesday dismissed a call by Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) to delay passage of a mammoth defense bill until after the Democratic presidential debates so the entire chamber can vote on an Iran amendment.

McConnell, speaking from the Senate floor, brushed off the request from Schumer, saying Democrats missing the votes in order to take part in the Democratic presidential debates were prioritizing trying to win “the favor of the resistance.”

“I was incredulous to hear the Democratic leader call yesterday to postpone moving forward with the NDAA,” McConnell said, referring to the National Defense Authorization Act. “Apparently some of our Democratic friends need to go hit the presidential campaign trail. They can’t be here because they have to go campaign.”

As Bonchie noted in his post, McConnell’s decision to not delay votes was not just about needling the presidential candidates who were also members of the Senate but also because, you know, actual work needed to get done:

While Cocaine Mitch probably had sticking it to these do-nothing Democrats in the back of his mind, the truth is that remaining in session is absolutely crucial right now. They were already scheduled to be off the first week of July. While most of us get a single day off (and some no day off), Congress gets the entire week for some reason.

That means that there’s no way to take Thursday and Friday off, as working on immigration issues is vital right now. Trump agreed to a two-week delay in a major ICE deportation operation after Pelosi requested it. While a deal is unlikely, you can’t make an attempt at one if you take that entire two weeks off.

For good measure, though, the MccConnell campaign wished the candidates good luck and tweaked them with some pre-debate prep of their own:

As I’ve said before, Cocaine Mitch’s troll game is strong…

Grow Up, AOC: Liz Cheney Schools Her Highness on How Mature Members of Congress Should Address Border Crisis

Ever since Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) called her out last week on her absurd comparison of border detention facilities to Nazi concentration camps, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has been on a revenge mission to get back at her Congressional colleague for having the audacity to set the record straight.

Cheney addressed AOC in three different tweets over the issue on Tuesday and Wednesday last week. Ocasio-Cortez has devoted significantly more time to not only waffling back and forth on her own position on the detention facilities, but also in trying to blame Cheney for making a comparison to the Holocaust that AOC claims she herself never made.

We all know Her Highness is just straight up lying here:

As it turns out, Cheney has had enough of Ocasio-Cortez’s liberal tears and governing-by-Twitter, and the Wyoming Congresswoman called her out yesterday both for her remarks on the detention centers, and for also how she treats her job:

“I think that any member who suggested, as she did, that the camps on the U.S. border are concentration camps deserves that,” Cheney told reporters Tuesday during a press conference when asked why she has been such a vocal critic of her fellow freshman lawmaker. “That’s a comment that is clearly ludicrous, clearly something that must be responded to,” she added.

[…]

“I think that you should be in a position where rather than launching attacks like that, which are clearly political on their face, clearly misinformed, we all ought to be working to try to help the crisis at the border, both the security and the humanitarian crisis at the border. And she and many of her colleagues have now prevented us from bringing the bill to the floor that would do that 17 times,” the House Republican Conference chairwoman said. “So I think it’s very important we focus on the fact that this is real Congress, this isn’t model Congress, we have real work to do and we ought to be getting it done.”

Watch Cheney speak on the issue below:

In other words, grow up, AOC.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has spent the last year proclaiming herself to be a champion of migrant women, children and families who are trying to cross the border. She’s compared border detention facilities to Nazi concentration camps and has declared without apology that she will continue to refuse the Trump administration’s request for supplemental funding that would help alleviate the humanitarian issues at the border.

But earlier today the freshman Congresswoman revealed a hypocrisy and duplicity on the border issue that is so stunning in nature that it almost takes your breath away.

Let’s take a trip back to her Twitter feed from just a few days ago, where she blasted the Trump administration for allegedly wanting to deprive illegal immigrant children on the border of toothpaste, soap, and adequate sleeping conditions:

Fast forward to today, when a group of Wayfair employees announced a walkout because the company was selling beds to the government to use for children in the detention centers:

Ocasio-Cortez, who just days ago threw firebombs over allegedly deplorable sleeping conditions for children at these detention centers, ENDORSED it:

To me, her jumping on board this campaign to deprive children on the border of beds to sleep on because Orange Man Bad pretty much wins the prize on the Evil Witch scale:

Others were quick to weigh in, including the Trump War Room:

I think this tweet sums it up best:

So she won’t give due consideration to a request for supplemental funding that would help alleviate some of the conditions she complains about, and she doesn’t want suppliers to sell beds to the government to use so children don’t have to sleep in the deplorable conditions she complains about.

Psst: Hey, mainstream media. Know what it’s time to do? It’s time for y’all to – at long last – CALL. HER. OUT.

About a month ago, Star Trek actor and liberal icon George Takei pounced to the Twitter machine to express his frustration with Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).

Takei, who has made no secret of his disdain for the Trump administration and Republicans in general, posted this about the man who is proud to call himself “the Grim Reaper”:

The National Republican Senate Committee got wind of the tweet, and trolled Takei back in response at the time using this infamous gif of McConnell:

PJ Media‘s Nicholas Ballasy caught up with Takei and his husband Brad Altman at a recent event and asked if Takei had made up his mind on whether or not to officially challenge McConnell:

Following his participation in the American Library Association’s annual conference on Monday, PJM asked Takei if he is going to run for Senate, but event organizers interrupted the interview before Takei could respond. However, Takei’s husband Brad Altman later said the Star Trek actor is not going to enter the Senate race in Kentucky against McConnell.

“He’s not running,” Mr. Altman said. “We’re not planning on moving to Kentucky.”

Oh, darn it.

McConnell has earned the ire of Democrats like Takei and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA). Earlier this month, Pelosi displayed a chart during a press conference the mocked McConnell’s embrace of the “Grim Reaper” nickname. The Senator’s response to Pelosi’s stunt was priceless:

“She’s got it right,” McConnell said, referring to Pelosi. “She’s got it absolutely right. For the first time in my memory, I agree with Nancy Pelosi.”

“I am indeed the ‘Grim Reaper’ when it comes to the socialist agenda that they have been ginning up over the House with overwhelming Democratic support, and sending it over to America,” he added. “Things that would turn us into a country we have never been.”

Pelosi’s poster included a quote from McConnell, in which he called himself the “Grim Reaper” in regard to keeping some of the Democrats’ legislative priorities from reaching President Trump’s desk.

“None of those things are going to pass the Senate. they won’t even be voted on. So think of me as the Grim Reaper,” McConnell had said.

To date, McConnell has one 2020 primary challenger so far but no one on the Democratic side has formally declared. It was reported in March that Democrats were hoping to convince former Marine pilot Amy McGrath, a former House candidate, to challenge the longtime Senator.

Video: Trump Stirs the Biden Pot, Suggests There’s a Troubling Reason Why Obama Won’t Endorse His Former VP

President Donald Trump (R) is interviewed by “The Hill” – 6/24/19. Screen grab via The Hill.

Just one week after his official 2020 reelection campaign kickoff, President Trump is clearly in campaign mode and ready to ramp up his needling of current Democratic frontrunner Joe Biden.

In a wide-ranging interview Trump did with The Hill on Monday, the President suggested that there may be a more concerning reason former President Obama is not endorsing Biden that goes beyond merely being respectful to the other candidates during the primary process:

“How he doesn’t get President Obama to endorse him — there has to be some reason why he’s not endorsing him,” Trump said outside the Oval Office. “He was the vice president. They seem to have gotten along. And how President Obama’s not endorsing him is rather a big secret,” Trump mused, adding, “Then he goes and lies and said, ‘I asked the president not to endorse me.’ Give me a break.”

Trump argued Biden made the assertion because “he’s embarrassed by the fact that Obama’s not endorsing him, so he goes out and says, ‘I asked President Obama not to endorse me.’ … So it could be that President Obama knows something, but there is something going on in that brain of his.”

Pressed on what exactly is going on in Biden’s brain, Trump said, “I think he’s off. He’s different. We’ve all known him a long time. I’ve seen him for a long time. Frankly, he looks different, he sounds different, and he thinks different. Other than that, I hope he does very well.”

Watch this segment of the interview below:

Biden frequently talks about Obama on the campaign trail, and not just in terms of what he says they accomplished, but also in terms of the personal friendship they developed over the 8 years they were in DC. It’s a calculated strategy on his part, reminding Democratic voters he was the VP to a man who is still very much loved in his party.

Related to that, political observers say that Biden’s time as Obama’s vice president is something the black community remembers fondly and takes into account.

But some commentators – both liberal and conservative – have suggested Biden also brings up Obama to insinuate to Democratic voters, without evidence, that if Obama “could” endorse anyone prior to the start of the primaries, it would be him.

This tweet was viewed as a prime example of that:

As Fox News notes, Trump has been trying to get under Biden’s skin since he officially announced his candidacy back in April:

Trump and Biden repeatedly have traded blows since the former vice president entered the 2020 race, with the president frequently dismissing his potential opponent as “sleepy”.

Trump even said he would prefer to run against Biden rather than face another campaign against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Trump, who has continued to launch criticisms at Clinton even after he defeated her in the 2016 presidential race, recently offered rare praise of the former secretary of state while once again labeling Biden as “sleepy.”

“I actually think that Hillary Clinton was a great candidate. She was very smart. She was very tough. She was ruthless and vicious,” Trump said during an interview that aired this past Sunday on NBC News’ “Meet The Press.” “[Biden’s] sleepy. She was not sleepy.”

Biden is set to take the debate stage in Miami Thursday night. Should be interesting to see what he has to say about Trump’s comments – and what Trump will say in turn if he decides to live-tweet the debates.

As Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) has shown since elected but especially in recent weeks, he is unafraid to take on the loudest, shrillest voices on the left, no matter the issue.

Last week, it was Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) on her “border detention centers=Nazi concentration camps” comparison, and Black Hat for disinviting Rep. Will Hurd (R-TX) from a tech conference over his pro-life views. Over the weekend, it was twice-failed Democratic candidate for president Hillary Clinton – who tried to blame the border crisis on Republicans.

Also over the weekend, the freshman Congressman took issue with comments from longtime Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), who went on a wild Twitter rant regarding President Trump and possible war with Iran:

Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., drew fire from Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas, on Twitter for accusing President Trump of provoking a conflict with Iran.

The U.S. military’s Central Command released a video earlier this month showing Iranian forces removing an unexploded mine from one of the two ships that were attacked near the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has denied any involvement in the conflict.

Trump called off a military strike against Tehran after they shot down an American drone they claimed was in Iranian airspace. It was valued at over $100 million. Iran has since claimed they have the capability to continue shooting down American drones if necessary.

Waters said Trump didn’t deserve credit for showing restraint and questioned the nature of America’s surveillance of Iran.

In particular, Crenshaw took issue with this tweet from Waters:

In response, he blasted the Congresswoman:

Red State‘s Jennifer Van Laar documented Waters’s tweets last night and explained how her rant was wildly off the mark for a number of reasons, but commenting on an issue without the facts has never stopped Mad Maxine before.

Unraveled: Website for Knitters and Crocheters Bans All Content Supporting Trump

Everything is political these days, and it’s exhausting. Millions of Americans enjoy knitting and crocheting as hobbies, to provide some relaxation, a way to make cherished gifts for loved ones, or even a little extra income. But if you are a supporter of President Donald Trump, one of the biggest yarn crafting websites wants you to know you’re no longer welcome.

Well, technically, you’re still welcome, but you better keep your mouth shut about Trump.

The website in question, Ravelry, has often had a left-leaning tone — they heavily promoted various patterns for the infamous pink “cat” hats seen at many of the Women’s March protests — but the users had a range of political beliefs all across the partisan spectrum (you know, just like America).

The site includes searchable posts for knitting and crochet patterns, some available for free and some for sale, as well as a forum section where users can post about a variety of topics, some yarn-related and some not. Most of the content is utterly benign and unoffensive to any sane person, focused heavily on discussing patterns, sharing techniques and problem solving difficult patterns, or frivolous topics like this photo thread of users’ pet cats playing with yarn.

I’d like to say I hope we can all agree that kittens playing with yarn are still cute, but I’m not so sure anymore. The current divisive toxicity of our politics is spreading rapidly, and Ravelry’s millions of members are now in the middle of the battlefield.

Over the weekend, Ravelry’s Twitter account (with a bio touting that they are an “inclusive, friendly website for [yarn emoji] people around the [globe emoji]”) posted a link to an announcement on their website stating that supporting Trump was no longer allowed on Ravelry.

The linked announcement clarified that this ban included voicing any support for Trump not just in forum posts, but also in user profiles and in patterns. Posting patterns for those pink hats is fine. A knitted MAGA hat or blanket is not.

The head-scratching explanation provided by the site’s administration was to accuse all Trump supporters as being equivalent to white supremacists:

“We cannot provide a space that is inclusive of all and also allow support for open white supremacy. Support of the Trump administration is undeniably support for white supremacy.”

Trump supporters are still allowed to use the site and participate, they just “can’t talk about [supporting Trump] here.” No one’s pattern designs or data would be deleted, but any of the Trump content that offends the site operators so much would be recategorized as private, invisible to all users except the one who posted it.

This means any Trump supporters who had pro-Trump designs for sale on Ravelry will no longer be able to use the site to sell them, and pro-Trump political activists cannot share designs supporting Trump on the site, even for free, for other supporters to access.

The announcement also mentioned that they had adapted their “No Trump” policy from RPG.net, a website forum dedicated to role-playing games.

Political patterns are by no means anywhere close to a majority of the content on Ravelry, but there have been some on both sides. Here are a few patterns from “Deplorable Knitter,” still available from Instagram posts:

As the new policy was enacted, Deplorable Knitter posted screen caps of complaints about her patterns, and strongly objecting to the accusation she or her patterns were racist:

Deplorable Knitter’s G-rated patterns are no longer welcome on Ravelry. Because simply mentioning Trump or his campaign slogans is an act of hate, according to Ravelry.

Still acceptable, however, is this scarf that displays the message “F*** TRUMP” when read at an angle, a seemingly endless array of genitalia crafted out of yarn (NSFW photos at link), and this whimsical design of two deer getting intimate in the woods, ready to adapt for knitted hats or mittens (images sort of NSFW but probably only if your boss is really strict).

I personally have been knitting and crocheting for years (see cat and blanket below), and have often used Ravelry to find new patterns and research techniques. I’m involved in political issues all day long and am far more likely to be searching or posting about blanket patterns than political topics — I’m knitting as a break from politics, not to do more politics! — but must say I find this policy to be completely ridiculous.

Banning posts that are actually racist is fairly noncontroversial as far as internet forum moderation practices go. But it’s a wild and gross exaggeration to say all Trump supporters are white supremacists. I didn’t vote for him and will not vote for him (much to the constant delight of our RedState commenters) but I know many, many people who voted for Trump as a vote against Hillary Clinton, certainly not to endorse any sort of racism or other prejudicial hatred.

Ravelry overstepped with this broad ban on Trump supporters, and it will be a troubling trend if more sites adopt this kind of policy. Dividing America into segregated political groups across all aspects of life will solve no problems and only make matters worse.

Finding common ground is one of the greatest legacies of this grand American experiment, and we have historically been better than any other nation on earth at taking all sorts of people with all sorts of ideas and all sorts of political beliefs and finding a way to peacefully progress as a nation.

How many other countries — even ones we characterize as first world democracies — still experience violence and unrest when elections remove one political party and put another in power? We’ve had bitterly divided and often painful close presidential elections with about half of the country professing to hate the winner for most of my life — Bush, Clinton, another Bush, Obama, Trump — but each time the winner has shown up in Washington, D.C. to take the oath of office, and his predecessor has left the White House peacefully and without bloodshed. We should all be proud of that.

Banning Trump supporters from Ravelry doesn’t end white supremacy and it doesn’t defeat Donald Trump at the ballot box next November. It just deprives people of the chance to bond over cute knitting projects because their political beliefs barred half of them at the door.

The hot takes we’ve gotten from Democrats in the aftermath of Joe Biden’s praise of his ability to get along with segregationist Senators in the 1970s have been all over the map.

Former Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) said in an interview Thursday that Biden’s comments on Democratic Sens. James Eastland (MS) and Herman Talmadge (GA) were not that big a deal in the scheme of things. Why? Because Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Jeff Sessions (R-AL) were “pretty stinky, creepy people themselves” and Democratic Senators like Biden critic Cory Booker (NJ) had to work with them, too, she stated.

Sen. Kamala Harris (CA) ripped Biden’s remarks, suggesting he was “coddling the reputations of segregationists.” On the other hand, civil rights icons and Congressmen John Lewis (D-GA) and James Clyburn (D-SC) both defended Biden, saying they had to work with some pretty bad people back in those days, too.

MSNBC‘s “All In” host Chris Hayes had his own special take on it all in the midst of the controversy, and took to the Twitter machine to wonder out loud:

He followed up with a little bit of “WhatAboutBothism”, perhaps in an attempt to make his initial tweet sound more… measured:

Twitter being Twitter, there was actually a debate between liberals in the comments:

In the end, there was no clear winner in the debate. But there was one casualty: Common sense.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) speaks with Chris Wallace – 6/23/19. Screen grab via Fox News.

I’ve got to hand it to House and Senate Republicans – they are not sitting back and taking the left’s punches on the border crisis laying down.

Rep. Dan Crenshaw (TX) isn’t holding back. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA) isn’t backing down, and Rep. Liz Cheney (WY) has been unafraid to school funding denier Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) on the issue.

They are just a few of many examples.

The latest example comes from Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR), who appeared on “Fox News Sunday” with Chris Wallace yesterday to discuss the impasse between Democrats and Republicans on illegal immigration and the humanitarian issues that exist at the border.

CNS News reports on Wallace’s question to Cotton, and the Senator’s to-the-point response:

“President Trump has also delayed a roundup that was supposed to begin today of migrant families that have already been given their deportation orders. He said he’s giving Congress two weeks to work out and reform the asylum system, and otherwise, he’ll impose the roundup. I don’t have to tell you. You have a little bit of a look on your face. The likelihood – you talk about healthy skepticism — Congress isn’t going to reform the asylum system in two weeks sir,” host Chris Wallace said.

“So Chris, I was going to say healthy skepticism is warranted for dealing with Democrats when it comes to immigration,” Cotton responded. “Let’s just think about the Democrats position here, Chris. These are people who have claimed asylum in our country. They’ve had their day in court.

“They’ve had their claims rejected, and now they face a valid and final order of removal. If they can’t deport people like that, who can we deport? That’s why the Democrats’ position always comes back to, in essence, open borders,” he said.

Watch video of the segment below:

On Saturday, Cotton made the same point in addressing a tweet from Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who claimed Trump and Republicans were just playing to their base had no plan to deal with the issue:

Not only is Cotton spot-on about the left’s open borders position, he’s also correct in how ICE has specifically been tasked to find and deport the illegal immigrants who have received their final order of removal:

ICE Acting Director Mark Morgan made clear in a call with reporters Wednesday that the ICE raids would target illegal aliens who have ignored court orders to leave the country.

“These individuals that are here, and they’ve received a final order of removal, I hope they’ll do what we tried to get them to do previously: Contact their local ICE office — bring their family together, contact their local ICE office and work with us to send them back to their home country,” Morgan said during the call.

Like Wallace, I’m skeptical Democrats and Republicans are going to be able to come up with a bipartisan solution on this issue in the next two weeks. Time will tell.
