Ted Cruz Flattens Beto O’Rourke (Again) After the Failed Senate Candidate Went on Anti-American Rant

As Red State‘s Bonchie wrote Wednesday, 2020 presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke (D) went for broke during a recent campaign stop in Tennessee, trashing his own country in a room full of refugees and immigrants. The comments came off as anti-American to conservatives and Republicans alike, and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) weighed in on Thursday on the issue, slamming his former Senate opponent.

To recap, here’s what O’Rourke told the audience, via The Hill:

During a roundtable event hosted by a local organization that works with immigrants, the presidential candidate pointed to his home state’s history in the Confederacy while arguing that the legacy of racism persists in U.S. institutions.

“I know this from my home state, Texas, places that formed the Confederacy, that this country was founded on white supremacy,” he said, according to the Tennessean. “And every single institution and structure that we have in this country still reflects the legacy of slavery and segregation and Jim Crow and suppression, even in our democracy.”

He made the remarks in response to a question about how he would tackle white supremacy if elected president.

Watch video of his remarks below:

Just a week after giving a much-needed history lesson to former QB-turned-social justice warrior Colin Kaepernick on abolitionist and statesman Frederick Douglass, Cruz once again used history to flatten another expression of anti-American sentiment:

Cruz is right, of course. The hard left “traffics” in anti-American hate more often than not, and unfortunately Democrats like O’Rourke are trying to mainstream it for political advantage.

As I wrote today at Legal Insurrection:

What’s become increasingly popular over the years in elite Democratic circles is the notion that to be considered sufficiently woke, you must believe that America and its foundations are fundamentally flawed. You also must have the unwavering desire to change them fundamentally.

The key to that message being successful for Democrats is in framing it in such a way as to make voters believe that big government’s encroachment into their lives and wallets is the way things should have always been from the start. This is one reason why Barack Obama was elected.

It worked for Obama, but it won’t work for Beto, because too many Democrats view him as a “privileged” candidate who has led a mostly charmed life and who doesn’t have much to offer in the crowded, diverse field of candidates.

It also won’t work with any Republicans he’d like to win over, because you won’t find many Republicans who will buy into the anti-Americanism that Beto is selling (unless your name is Ana Nararro).

Nevertheless, he took his campaign to new lows this week in a desperate attempt to revive some of that old Beto magic from 2018. Unfortunately for him, it’s too late. His time to shine in the political spotlight has long passed.

President Trump is currently embroiled in a civil suit brought by a former campaign staffer named Alva Johnson. One aspect of it is accusations of pay discrimination but the real blockbuster charge has been that Donald Trump supposedly forced himself on her and kissed her without her consent.

Sounds serious, right? The media have certainly treated it as such, with Johnson being given the red carpet treatment on CNN and MSNBC.

Things just took a dramatic turn though. Trump’s lawyers managed to dig up actual video of the encounter and it essentially vindicates the President. In fact, it makes Johnson look like a malicious liar given that the video appears to show her leaning in and actually kissing him on the cheek.

Here’s the video and it’s readily apparent there was absolutely nothing improper about what happened.

By comparison, here’s how Johnson originally described the encounter in her lawsuit per CNN.

“As Defendant Trump spoke, he tightened his grip on Ms. Johnson’s hand and leaned towards her. He moved close enough that she could feel his breath on her skin,” the lawsuit states. “Ms. Johnson suddenly realized that Defendant Trump was trying to kiss her on the mouth, and attempted to avoid this by turning her head to the right. Defendant Trump kissed her anyway, and the kiss landed on the corner of her mouth.”

In reality, he didn’t come close to mouth to mouth contact as she alleged and it appears he didn’t even actually make mouth to cheek contact. This was simply Trump doing the typical European style greeting you see all over the world. He also did not ever touch her hand at all, much less forcibly tighten his grip on it.

For their part, Johnson’s lawyers are laughably claiming this vindicates them somehow by proving they did meet. Yes, Trump has said in the past he doesn’t know who she is. That’s completely consistent with the fact that this is 1) the only time they interacted and 2) she was one of thousands of staffers across the country. Of course he wouldn’t recall who she was.

I’ll also note that Johnson herself never described the encounter as problematic until much later, saying that she hadn’t realized he’d committed battery against her until she saw others come forward during the #metoo movement. Yes, she is alleging what’s in that video is battery.

Look, I’m all for giving victims room to prove their case without being attacked but this lawsuit is complete garbage. It’s a reminder of how false accusations can be wielded against people in powerful positions and why skepticism is warranted in all cases.

Trump: ‘I F***ing Love This Job!’; Prize Takeaways From Interviews With 300 Republican Leaders In New Book

Westlake Legal Group Kanye-Trump-2-620x827 Trump: ‘I F***ing Love This Job!’; Prize Takeaways From Interviews With 300 Republican Leaders In New Book Tim Alberta Ted Cruz President Trump Paul Ryan Madeleine Westerhout Front Page Stories Featured Story elections donald trump Campaigns Allow Media Exception 2020

Politico’s Tim Alberta has written a new book entitled “On the Front Lines of the Republican Civil War and the Rise of President Trump.” Although the book is scheduled to be released next Tuesday, the Washington Post has received a copy. The author interviewed over 300 Republican leaders including Trump himself. The majority of this group were at the very least “skeptical” when candidate Donald Trump first came on the scene. Some even hated him and worked to undermine him. Over time, however, the President has won many of them over.

The book tells the story of Trump’s executive assistant, Madeleine Westerhout, who burst into tears the night Trump won the presidency. Working as an aide for the RNC at the time, she told Alberta she was “inconsolable.” That’s why her colleagues found it so amusing she was chosen to become Trump’s executive assistant. Times have changed. Trump calls Westerhout “my beautiful beauty.” She is fiercely loyal to him and told the author she would do almost anything for him.

No one thought Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) could ever patch things up after the Republican primary. Recall that Trump’s nickname for Cruz was “Lyin’ Ted.” Alberta writes, “[Cruz] told confidantes there was ‘no way in hell’ he was prepared to subjugate himself to Trump in front of tens of millions of viewers. ‘History isn’t kind to the man who holds Mussolini’s jacket,’ Cruz told friends in 2016.”

But, there was Trump at a large rally supporting Cruz in his tight race against Beto O’Rourke in 2018.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) appears on Fox News frequently and has become one of Trump’s greatest supporters. In June 2016, Jordan told Alberta he “wishes the Republican-controlled Congress could have done things differently to avoid creating this environment that was conducive to someone like Donald Trump becoming the nominee.”

Alberta spoke to Former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI). Alberta wrote that Ryan wanted to abandon Trump after the “Hollywood Access” tape was released, but nevertheless he reluctantly endorsed Trump and worked to enact his agenda.

Ryan told Alberta that Trump upbraided him because the 2018 spending bill failed to provide border wall funding, but said “he would sign it if Ryan were to give him time to build suspense on Twitter. Ryan agreed and then publicly sang the president’s praises after the meeting.”

I’ve always believed that Paul Ryan did what he had to do, but nothing extra. In my eyes, if Ryan hadn’t announced his retirement and instead had worked to bolster Republicans, we might have seen less carnage in the midterms. And, if ever there was a time to put border wall funding into a spending bill, it would have been when the Republicans held both the House and the Senate majorities. It doesn’t seem to me that Ryan fought for Trump. He just wanted out.

Alberta wrote that Ryan saw his retirement from Congress as an “escape hatch” from Trump. Accordingly to the book, Ryan said:

I told myself I gotta have a relationship with this guy to help him get his mind right. Because, I’m telling you, he didn’t know anything about government … I wanted to scold him all the time.”

We helped to stop him from making bad decisions. All the time.”

We helped him make much better decisions, which were contrary to kind of what his knee-jerk reaction was. Now I think he’s making some of these knee-jerk reactions.

We’ve gotten so numbed by it all. Not in government, but where we live our lives, we have a responsibility to try and rebuild. Don’t call a woman a ‘horse face.’ Don’t cheat on your wife. Don’t cheat on anything. Be a good person. Set a good example.

Alberta reported that on one occasion, in a pre-dawn tweet, Trump accused the Obama administration of tapping his phone during the election season. Early one morning, Chief of Staff Reince Priebus called Ryan, waking him up, and said, “Paul, what the hell is going on? What the hell is he talking about?” This caused Ryan to break into “maniacal, punch-drunk laughter.”

The Hill contacted Ryan’s office to verify and a spokesperson said, “those are the words of the author, not the former representative.”

For his part, Alberta quoted Trump as saying that “Ryan is a f***ing boy scout.”

There was one person who was not a fan then or now. And that would be Rep. Justin Amash (I-MI), who declared his independence from the Republican party on the Fourth of July. Amash told Alberta:

These guys have all convinced themselves that to be successful and keep their jobs, they need to stand by Trump. But Trump won’t stand with them as soon as he doesn’t need them. He’s not loyal. They’re very loyal to Trump, but the second he thinks it’s to his advantage to throw someone under the bus, he’ll be happy to do it.

According to the book, in 2016, Trump was asked by campaign chairman Paul Manafort why he would not appoint then-New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie as attorney general. He answered, “Because that guy would prosecute my own kids and not think twice about it.”

Asked why he thinks he won the presidency, Trump answered, “Nobody gave them hope. I gave them hope.”

Following a raucous 2018 rally, the author wrote that Trump screamed into the night: “I f—ing love this job!”

Barring President Trump From Blocking Twitter Accounts Opens a Lot of Interesting Possibilities

President’s Twitter Now Immune From Being Banned?

Yesterday, my good friend and fellow RedStater, Sister Toldjah, penned a very nice article, with just a touch of schadenfreude. It seems as though in losing a court battle regarding his Twitter account, President Trump may have just won the war. Here’s the immediate fallout: From the article.

After a federal appeals court ruled Tuesday on First Amendment grounds that President Trump could not block Twitter users, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) found herself on the receiving end of a couple of lawsuits on the same grounds. One is from a New York Democrat.

It’s nice to enjoy it when leftists are hoisted on their own petards. It’s even better when their tactical “victory” could possibly turn out to be a strategic route to the benefit of conservatives. Over at American Thinker, Dr. Thomas Lifson explains.

The latest in a long series of rulings by federal judges hamstringing moves by the Trump administration already is teaching a tough but obvious lesson to judges.  A precedent applies to everyone, not just to the specific defendant in the matter at hand.

Lifson goes on the explain that the most recent ruling by a Federal Appeals Court has essentially declared the President’s Twitter account to be a “public forum.” Further, because POTUS uses his Twitter account to communicate with the people regarding public policy, coupled with the fact that his account is open to that same public to comment, his account (emphasis mine) “warrants constitutional free speech protection under the First Amendment.”

Constitutional Free Speech Protection. It gets better.

Well, that makes Twitter, when used by a federal official, covered by First Amendment protections.  So much for the discussion that Twitter might suspend or close President Trump’s account, as it has done to many other conservatives’ accounts. Even better, it also enshrines the right of conservatives to respond to tweets by leftist elected officials.

Dr. Lifson notes, as did Sister Toldjah, within hours of the ruling, Representative Ocasio-Cortez was sued for blocking users on her Twitter account who disagreed with her. Permit me a small chuckle as I enjoy that comeuppance.

In closing, Lifson floats the possibility of a strategic win for conservative against the leviathans, Twitter and Facebook.

If responding to federal officials on Twitter is protected by the First Amendment, then why not make Twitter itself respect the First Amendment rights of conservatives who respond to elected federal officials?

“Twitter itself,” along with Facebook and every other public platform that has been shadow banning or using other nefarious methods to keep the conservative message from getting out, now stands the very real possibility of legal sanctions. Lawfare can be fun.

Report: Multiple Death Threats Sent to Theater Managers Screening Pro-Life “Unplanned” Movie

Westlake Legal Group unplanned-screenshot Report: Multiple Death Threats Sent to Theater Managers Screening Pro-Life “Unplanned” Movie unplanned Pro-Life Politics movie Media Front Page Stories Featured Story Entertainment democrats crime Allow Media Exception Abortion

The pro-life movie Unplanned, which tells the story of former Planned Parenthood abortion facility manager Abby Johnson’s journey from being an abortion advocate to a pro-life activist, has been running into trouble from the moment it arrived on the world stage. Between attempts by social media giants to silence it and activists trying to tarnish it, Unplanned has generated no shortage of anger from the pro-abortion left.

Now, according to LifeSite, several managers of private movie theaters have had to cancel their screenings of the pro-life film after receiving credible death threats. The reports come from B.J. McKelvie, pastor and president of Fredericton-based Cinedicom according to LifeSite, who has confirmed that police are now involved:

McKelvie confirmed to LifeSiteNews that two Canadian independent cinema owners contacted police after receiving death threats they perceived as credible, and that they are “fearful for their families.”

Another Canadian independent theatre owner “has been harrassed to the extreme.”

One of the two owners who contacted the police has cancelled the Unplanned screening, but all the rest “are holding their ground,” McKelvie said.

He did not want to identify the locations, particularly because “it’s a police matter,” he told LifeSiteNews.

The alleged death threats are aimed at independent theatre owners because “they didn’t get anywhere with Cineplex, or they didn’t get anywhere with Landmark,” McKelvie said.

“It’s just a movie. The topic is certainly a hot topic,” said McKelvie. “However, it is just a movie. I find it ironic, they talk about choice, pro-choice, pro-choice, pro-choice, but they’re not giving people a choice to go see the movie.”

The film has had a lot of underhanded things done to it in order for information about it to stay minimal. Twitter was causing accounts to automatically unfollow the movie’s official Twitter account. Several videos of people following the account, clicking off, and then click back on to see that they had been removed from the follower’s list showed up on the internet.

Other attempts to generate ire toward Unplanned involved ginning up narratives that the movie would inspire people to go out and hurt, or even kill someone due to the fact that the film gets the anti-abortion message across too well.

The irony here is that we have people threatening death upon innocent people because they’re showing a film that shows you the horrors of an organization who deals in the death of innocent children daily, and all in the name of silencing said film because it might convince people to cause death.

Astounding logic.

The war of words between House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) definitely heated up today after provocative remarks the freshman Congresswoman made to the Washington Post complaining about Pelosi’s treatment of the Queenie Quartet went viral.

The Hill reports:

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) accused Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) of repeatedly singling out newly elected women of color in the House, saying that the veteran congresswoman’s criticism has become “outright disrespectful.”

Ocasio-Cortez made the remarks in an interview with The Washington Post late Wednesday after a day of heightened tensions between Pelosi and House Democrats.

“When these comments first started, I kind of thought that she was keeping the progressive flank at more of an arm’s distance in order to protect more moderate members, which I understood,” Ocasio-Cortez told the Post.

“But the persistent singling out … it got to a point where it was just outright disrespectful … the explicit singling out of newly elected women of color,” she added.

The “newly elected women of color” AOC is referring to are her BFFs Ilhan Omar (MN), Rashida Tlaib (MI), and Ayanna Pressley (MA).

Hours after the the report was published, Ocasio-Cortez backtracked by saying that, contra to what she told the Post, she did not think Pelosi was racist in any way:

So Pelosi is deliberately targeting WOC but she’s not racist? Oookay.

Daily Wire‘s Matt Walsh is siding with Pelosi on this one:

Good points. But if you’re inclined to feel sorry for Pelosi in this battle, don’t. What’s happening here is that Democrats are being hoisted by their own petards, and instead of being able to keep their focus on Republicans, Democrats are trading barbs with each other in a very public and embarrassing way.

It’s almost impossible to keep track of how often AOC, Tlaib, Omar, and Pressley have disingenuously played the “woman of color” card over the last several months in response to any and all Republican criticisms. Not only that, they won’t hesitate to insinuate that even the bare minimum criticism they receive puts them under “constant threat” (so shut up with your dissent!).

This is what passes for “substantive” debate with them. They want to talk and lecture while you shut up and listen – and conform.

That the leader of the pack has turned around and used the POC card against one of her own shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. Unlike with Pelosi, AOC is not in Congress to break bread in the interest of bipartisanship and getting things done. Her method of operation is Governing by Twitter. It’s her way or the highway – and if you dare cross her, expect her to go nuclear on you in response, and her social media cultists to respond accordingly.

AOC’s tirade has had the intended effect. It’s stirred up the Woke Mafia into voodoo dolling the House Speaker.

Logic Need Not Apply As California Passes Law Giving Free Healthcare to Illegal Immigrants

Westlake Legal Group gavin-newsom-fortunate-son-620x284 Logic Need Not Apply As California Passes Law Giving Free Healthcare to Illegal Immigrants United States unintended consequences unfunded liabilities Politics Illegal Immigration Gavin Newsom Front Page Stories Front Page Financial Trouble Featured Story dumb democrats crisis California border patrol

California Gov. Gavin Newsom just signed into law a bill that will extend free healthcare coverage to illegal immigrants 0-25 years old (the coverage for minors had been previously passed).

On Tuesday, California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed into law State Bill 104, which now extends health care benefits to illegal immigrants between the ages of 19-25, in addition to the law that already had guaranteed coverage to illegal immigrants under the age of 19.

The Hill noted, “The bill, introduced earlier this year, is estimated to cover about 90,000 low-income residents overall and comes with a roughly $98 million price tag.”

This comes as California’s financial future gets even bleaker. While some are claiming a recent single year surplus means everything is all good, that ignores the unfunded liabilities and the fact that they have almost four times as much debt as cash on hand (and states can’t just print more money to cover shortfalls).

In fact, things are so bad that of the $5T in unfunded state and local liabilities in the United States, a full $1T of it resides in California, which only makes up 12% of the actual population in the country. California’s debt-to-GDP ratio is also approaching that of several eurozone countries that experienced economic collapses.

Worth noting is that cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco are dealing with an explosion of homelessness right now, many of which are mentally ill or drug addled. Instead of spending the proper resources to try to handle that issue, California is using its already finite, over-strapped resources to give free healthcare to illegal immigrants. Meanwhile, crime has spiked and feces litter the streets as homeless encampments spring up everywhere.

Keep in mind, there are plenty of poor Americans in the state not getting such coverage. It’s actually gotten to the point in California that it could be preferable to be in the country illegally.

Even past the financial considerations, giving free healthcare to illegal immigrants only incentivizes more illegal immigration. That means more money for the cartels, more women raped on the journey, more sick and dead children, and further strain on an already resource-starved Border Patrol. This also means that the “price-tag” for this program will balloon as more and more people show up, creating yet more liabilities for California they can’t pay.

It’s completely irresponsible and ignores all the unintended consequences that are ultimately produced by such a move. That’s a trademark of progressivism though. As long as it feels good, it’s worth doing. Who cares if it actually makes the situation worse, right?

As a moral imperative, I’d love to give everybody on this planet free healthcare. But I recognize that’s not only impossible, trying to do would could cause far more harm than good if it ends up bankrupting everyone in the end.

I’ll end by mentioning the other reason none of this is sustainable. Because of California’s ridiculous finical decisions and over-regulation, which has lead to high taxes and housing shortages, they are experiencing massive emigration to other states. Their tax base shrank to the tune of over 1M people between 2007-2016. Adding more and more debt as you continue to lose tax payers is a recipe for disaster.

But Gavin Newsom got to smile for the cameras and that’s what’s really important here.

In spite of NBC News attempting to play “gotcha” journalism with Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R) on Monday, the man who embraces the “Grim Reaper” label without apology is having a pretty good week.

After the non-story about two of his great-great-grandfathers being slaveowners broke, McConnell was asked about the news. His response was classic Cocaine Mitch:

On Tuesday, the mainstream media salivated over Democrat Amy McGrath’s announcement that she was running against McConnell.

McGrath, a retired Marine fighter pilot, even raised $2.5 million in the 24 hour period after she declared her candidacy. Things were looking good for her right out of the gate.

Except by Wednesday, things were going south for McGrath.

In a Tuesday interview she did with CNN‘s Jake Tapper, she had to walk back comments she made in 2017 comparing the election of Donald Trump to the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

And on Wednesday, she did an in-depth interview with the Louisiville Courier-Journal that had liberal heads spinning. First off, she indicated she would sometimes actually support Trump – depending on the issue:

CJ: Are you a pro-Trump Democrat? And how do you separate people who will vote for Trump but may not for Sen. McConnell?

McGrath: This business of pro-Trump, anti-Trump — you’re just putting people in a box. Folks just aren’t like that. … I want to do what’s best for Kentucky, and when President Trump has good ideas, I’m going to be for them. To me it’s not about your political party, it’s not about wearing a red jersey or blue jersey, OK? And that was something I talked about last campaign. If President Trump has good ideas, I’ll be for them. At the same time, if I think he’s wrong I’m going to stand up to him and that’s the difference — one the of major differences — between myself and Sen. McConnell.

Naturally, this did not sit well with leftists who believe Trump is the greatest threat to mankind.

To make matters worse for McGrath, she also told the Courier-Journal she would have ultimately supported Brett Kavanaugh had she been in the Senate during his confirmation hearings:

CJ: One of the centerpieces for Sen. McConnell’s reelection appears to be his work in reshaping the U.S. judiciary. If you had been a senator, would you have voted for Brett Kavanaugh to be on the Supreme Court — why or why not?

McGrath: Well, that’s a good question. I didn’t listen to all of the hearings. I don’t think there was anything, and I’m not a lawyer or a senator on the Judiciary Committee, so I don’t know the criteria. But I was very concerned about Judge Kavanaugh, what I felt like were the far-right stances that he had. However, there was nothing in his record that I think would disqualify him in any way. And the fact is when you have the president and the Senate, this is our system and so I don’t think there was anything that would have disqualified him in my mind.

[…]

CJ: So you would have voted for him to be on the Supreme Court?

McGrath: You know, I think that with Judge Kavanaugh, yeah, I probably would have voted for him.

(Around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, McGrath tweeted that upon further reflection, she would not have voted to confirm Kavanaugh.)

In other words, she flip-flopped – within a span of about three hours:

As always, the Cocaine Mitch campaign was on standby and ready to respond. They tweeted out the donation refunds link for unhappy Democrats:

… along with this humorous image:

They also trolled McGrath supporter and pro-abortion/sex strike activist Alyssa Milano with this tweet:

As Bonchie noted in his post Tuesday about McGrath announcing her candidacy, the media were eagerly predicting a “blockbuster race.” It’s started off that way already, but not in the ways they’d hoped it would.

Seattle Restaurant Chain Files for Bankruptcy Due to Minimum Wage Hike

The lobbyists for MW-15 continue to be deluded that they are not killing jobs

As the evidence mounts on how destructive the call for minimum wage hikes across the country have been the denial of the economic reality also mounts. Time and again wherever the policy has been instituted there have been strikingly adverse effects. And still the far left proponents only continue with their talking points, made void by the cold facts of the results.

The latest comes from the casual dining chain Restaurants Unlimited Inc. which has just filed for bankruptcy proceedings. Corporate officers in the filing have stated that the primary reason for the chain’s struggles rests primarily with it grappling with new minimum wage laws. The correlation is not deniable.

The restaurant brands operated by RU are primarily in the Seattle area, where the minimum wage hike was long ago established. Other locations exist in the liberal strongholds along the Pacific coast, including San Francisco, another MW-15 enclave. The salary requirements have been a drain, since employment costs are always the highest expense for eateries.

In the court papers the company’s Chief Restructuring Officer, David Bagley, cited a number of influences on the corporate revenue stream, with the mandated wage hikes being the biggest strain on the company.

“Over the past three years, the company’s profitability has been significantly impacted by progressive wage laws along the Pacific coast that have increased the minimum wage,” Bagley said. “As a large employer in the Seattle metro market, for instance, the company was one of the first in the market to be forced to institute wage hikes.”

Over the past fiscal year the company had a slight downturn in revenue, dipping -1% for FY ending this May. In that time the company saw its wage obligations explode, to over $10 million over that same year. This is the type of fiscal reality that eateries face, and which the wage proponents callously pretend are endurable for companies.

A common refrain heard from those lobbying groups, when told that these wage hike are untenable, has often been, “Well if they cannot afford to pay a living wage they should not be in business!” Think of the vacancy of that mindset; not only do they encourage insolvency and the commensurate loss of jobs, this also defies their primary talking points.

A favorite argument from this troupe is that merely raising food prices slightly will easily provide their desired wages. Instead, as seen by the RU bottom line, their revenues have already been impacted in trying to compensate for the added burden and they have been saddled with even steeper costs. As a result now — when attempting to improve the income for workers — this new policy has over 2,000 employees facing the threat of their entire income.

This follows suit however with what has already been witnessed. Seattle watched a number of businesses close or leave the city after its wage laws were passed. In New York City, a study on restaurant jobs shows that after the minimum wage increase was made law the loss of restaurant positions was the highest experienced since the 9/11 tragedy.

Even the Congressional Budget Office has acknowledged the problem. In a recent report about a proposed national MW-15 bill, the CBO stated that if passed the law would lead to 1,300,000 jobs being lost. But, living wages, and all.

These realities continue to be ignored by the ardent activists, pretending that their policy has nothing but beneficial results. It would be nice to see these benefits, if they ever do come to fruition.
